Marseille is the second-largest city in France after Paris and is one of the largest ports in the Mediterranean. With favorites like Parc du 26ème Centenaire, Une Table au Sud, and Copains - Restaurant Marseille, we’ll make sure you don’t miss out on all the must sees. We even included some of our favorite food spots around the area, like Hôtel Hermès Vieux Port and L'Espigoulier so you can get the best taste of Marseille while you’re here. The Basilica of Notre-Dame-of-la-Garde at Marseille is a grand basilica located at the city's highest point, featuring a golden statue of the Virgin Mary by Lequesne. For those seeking a luxurious stay, there are options like the InterContinental Marseille and Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port with breathtaking views of the Old Port. Alternatively, visitors can opt for boutique accommodations such as Le Petit Nice Passedat or C2 Hotel for a more intimate experience.
The cathedral sits at the highest hill and point in the city. Multiple levels with a restaurant and cafe. The interior is beautifully designed with intricate details. The outside areas and decks of the cathedral offer panoramic views of Marseille, the Mediterranean Sea, and the surrounding landscape, and can clearly see Chateau D'if in the distance. There was construction 🚧 going on at the time we visited as well. A must visit for Marseilles, as it is the main attraction in the city and best part free entry.

An absolute must-see in Marseille! The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking—offering a stunning 360° look over the city, sea, and surrounding hills. The basilica itself is beautiful, rich in history and architectural detail. Reaching the top can be a bit of a climb, but it’s well worth the effort. Whether you're religious or not, the atmosphere is peaceful and inspiring. Ideal for reflection, photography, or simply enjoying the view. A highlight of any trip to Marseille.

Notre-Dame de la Garde is definitely a must-see in Marseille. The cathedral itself is stunning, and the panoramic views over the city are breathtaking, especially at sunset – it’s truly magical. The only downside was that I couldn’t pay in cash to enter the museum, which was a bit inconvenient. Otherwise, it was an amazing experience.
Youcef G — Google review
Quite a walk from the train station; the uphill climb is a duzy; my hubby is 70 and I'm 64. We made it , but it's a workout. The outside is being restored, so there were several places we couldn't go. Great views.
Doreen V — Google review
I really loved what I got to see. Unfortunately, the main part of the basilica was closed when I visited, and they were doing restoration on the Bonne Mère statue on top. The views from the basilica, however, were stunning and I loved seeing some history with the damaged walls from the liberation of Marseille during WWII.
Nancy D — Google review
Fantastic place to look out over the city. The church itself is also pretty, if you’re into that. It was a steep climb for us, up many steps, but worth it for the view! Very popular with tourists
Charlotte H — Google review
Beautiful Basílica and even better views of the area. Fascinating history as well. Take the tiny train up. Great little tour of the area and it’s easy.
Brandon-Dean M — Google review
A unique experience. The city itself amazed us, and when we got to the hill where the basilica is, in addition to seeing the whole city, everything that surrounds it, we also saw an unusual building that seems to be in the clouds. The golden statue of the Virgin Mary and the Child was being restored at the time of our visit, but this did not diminish the impression. The parking lot is at the foot, you can come by bus or tourist car, go around as much as you want and return by the next one (often departures are organized). You can buy souvenirs in a couple of places, the toilet is in the part you need to reach, but it's not far, just in a not so obvious place. Ask, they will guide you, if you don't know how. A lot of tourists are always expected, but not to the extent that it spoils the tour.

Shopping mall
Shopping

Located in the heart of Marseille since 1977, Centre Commercial Centre Bourse is a contemporary mall offering a wide range of international brands, restaurants, and even a nursery. Despite its unassuming exterior, the interior boasts an array of designer-label goods with a focus on fashion, health, and beauty. With about 60 shops spread across three floors, it's the most easily accessible shopping option in the city center.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Convenient Shopping Spot in Central Marseille! Centre Bourse is a great mid-sized shopping center right in the heart of Marseille, perfect for quick shopping trips, dining, or catching a movie. Here’s what makes it stand out: ✅ Location & Accessibility – Situated near the Vieux-Port and metro stations (Noailles, Réformés), it’s super easy to reach. Parking is available but can get busy. 🛍 Diverse Shops – From fashion (H&M, Zara) to tech (Fnac) and supermarkets (Monoprix), it covers most daily needs. Not as big as Prado or Grand Littoral, but more central. 🍽 Food Options – A good mix of fast food (McDonald’s, KFC), a food court, and cafés. The Paul bakery is a nice spot for a quick coffee. 🎬 Cinema Pathé – One of the best cinemas in Marseille with comfortable seating and new releases. ⚠️ Minor Downsides – The mall feels a bit dated in some areas, and it can get crowded on weekends. Security is present, but always good to stay alert (like in any city center). Final Verdict: A practical, well-located mall with everything you need for a hassle-free shopping experience. Great for locals and tourists exploring downtown Marseille!

It is small but you can find something to buy even the franchise supermarket is there
Sarcopolo — Google review
A nice mall, for the city of Marseille, but I found expensive stores so it's not worth it! What was worth it was that there is also LILD inside and that outside the mall there is a museum

I’m a big fan of shopping malls, but this is a big skip. Even the Galeries Lafayette has a poorer selection than similar ones. You even have to pay money to use the toilets. Waste of time.

Mucem - Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean is a striking venue that opened in 2013, offering captivating exhibitions on the history and cultures of the Mediterranean region. The museum's contemporary architecture provides stunning sea views and houses world-class exhibits showcasing the intriguing stories behind European and Mediterranean civilizations. Its vast collection includes Neolithic and contemporary art, football memorabilia, graffiti, antique tarot cards, sound recordings, and unique artifacts like mermaid-shaped bread.
An incredibly located museum of Mediterranean cultures lets you discover them from a very interesting perspective. The temporary exhibitions are very good. The building is new, but connected by a bridge to an old fort, which adds to the experience. Marseille and its amazing charm can become a bit more understandable after a visit to this museum. The café in the fort is also worth recommending. It’s worth stopping by the gift shop — wonderful selections, especially in the book section, as well as beautiful handicrafts.
Ra — Google review
Mucem is an absolute must-see when in Marseille. The location is incredible — right on the waterfront with stunning views of the sea, the old port, and the city. The architecture itself is beautiful and makes the visit worth it even before stepping inside. Entry was €11, which I found fair for what’s on offer. During my visit there were two exhibitions: one on astrology and another on the history of the Amazigh ⵣ people. Both were fascinating and well presented. Even if you’re not big on museums, the setting alone — the views, the atmosphere, the building — will make your day. A great spot to take in both culture and scenery in one visit. Highly recommended.
Ash1741 — Google review
The building itself, it's architecture, the views of Marseille all around is very beautiful and impressive. That was actually the highlight of our visit. We saw three exhibitions. "The Mediterranean", which was the most interesting,"read the sky" was nice. and "the popular" was a bit too eclectic and average.
Najah A — Google review
Masterpiece of post modern architecture and wonderful exhibition spaces. I spent a whole day on Fort St Jean and MUCEM. The current exhibitions are quite diverse and well worth the price of entry. If you just want the sightseeing it's free.
Andy C — Google review
The MuCEM in Marseille is a must-visit! The Don Quixote exhibition is full of imagination, but the most fascinating part for me was exploring the ancient astrology and fortune telling documents, a real treat if you love history and cosmic curiosities. Besides the rooftop café is perfect for reading a book, enjoying the sunshine, and sipping coffee with sea views. Highly recommend taking time to explore every floor… building itself is beautifully designed!

If you’re in Marseille, this is a must-see spot! A unique mix of art, history, and science, with stunning views and an unforgettable sunset. The perfect place to stop by and enjoy a wonderful moment.
Youcef G — Google review
Been here twice. Once in Jun 2019, another recently on 15 Oct 2025. The amount of signages to help guide you TO the Mucem entrance for typical visitors is zero. You spend 20min walking via the piazza at ground level to the museum entrance facing the sea, bam, the entrance sign says priority entrance for kids only. You gotta walk backwards to the cliff/rock to the entrance at the Vieux Port (series of staircases) to cross the giant metal bridges. Only then can you enter. Or so we were told on that Wednesday on 15 Oct 2025. There is also no way of telling if an exhibit is free to enter unless you beat the queue to ask a simple question.
Gaius L — Google review
A museum with a clear point of view, which makes it not just interesting and aesthetic but a thought-provoking growth experience as well. The exhibit that explores what the term "Mediterranean" could mean and how it has been and is used is fascinating. The exhibit that explores the night sky's importance to the people's if the region was not only fascinating, but it provoked in me several times feelings of awe and deep emotion. This doesn't happen to me often, so I am grateful to the museum and its creators/curators for the entire experience. In addition to all this, the structures in which the exhibits are housed and the native plant gardens are absolutely exquisite. We were not in Marseille long enough to "do everything." I am glad we did not miss this.

Old Port of Marseille

Harbor
Marseille's Old Port, also known as Vieux Port, holds centuries of history and cultural significance. Established by the Phoenicians around 600 BC, it thrived as a hub for Mediterranean trade and was later integrated into the Roman Empire. The port's forts, Saint-Nicolas and Saint-Jean, stand as guardians with a rich medieval past. Visitors can explore historical buildings from various periods in PACA, including well-preserved Roman structures like amphitheaters and baths.
Don’t miss this place if you visit Marseille in the first time. I visited late June when the summer starts and the temperature is about 33+c during day time. There are seafood restaurants, cafe, Asian restaurants around so you can take some walks and have lunch or dinner.
Sumol — Google review
we walk around the old port at 7am and it was spectcular. the crowd build up slowly. evening sunset is also nice but busier.
Tezza J — Google review
The Old Port of Marseille is the vibrant heart of the city — a lively mix of history, culture, and seaside charm. Surrounded by cafes, seafood restaurants, and colorful boats, it’s the perfect place to soak up the Mediterranean atmosphere. From here, you can watch fishermen sell their daily catch, admire the reflections of historic buildings in the water, or hop on a boat to explore the Calanques. The area comes alive at sunset, when the light turns golden and locals gather along the quays. Whether for a morning stroll or an evening aperitif, the Vieux-Port is the soul of Marseille.
Ivy N — Google review
At sunset, it's definitely worth it. Many people were sitting within the harbor walls, enjoying the spectacle ;)
Vanessa A — Google review
A beautiful vibrant landmark in a city which has much to offer. Walk around it, visit the museums, explore, sample fish dishes in the restaurants around it, go to the fish markets or the Sunday Market , take a boat trip to the Calanques.....
Catherine Y — Google review
The port is the historic and symbolic heart of the city. Originally established around 600 BCE as the harbor of the ancient Greek colony of Massalia, it later became a strategic center for Mediterranean trade and military operations during the Roman Empire. Throughout the Middle Ages and early modern period, the port was a key departure point for Crusaders and a hub for maritime commerce. It underwent significant redevelopment in the 18th century. Although most commercial and industrial port functions moved to the newer Grand Port Maritime in the 1840s, the port has remained a vital civic and historical focal point. Today, it serves primarily fishing boats, private yachts, sightseeing cruises, and ferry services. The semi-circular waterfront is lined with Provençal-style buildings, terrace cafés, restaurants, and shops. It becomes especially atmospheric at sunset.
Seokjin H — Google review
The Vieux-Port of Marseille is truly the heart of the city—vibrant, historic, and full of life. Whether you're walking along the harbor, watching fishing boats come and go, or enjoying a coffee at one of the many cafés, the atmosphere is unforgettable. The views are stunning, especially at sunset when the sky reflects beautifully over the water. Street performers, local markets, and the iconic Notre-Dame de la Garde in the background make it even more magical. It’s the perfect starting point for exploring Marseille and soaking in its rich Mediterranean charm.
Ilox — Google review
It's all going on at the Vieux Port. Le Bateau to visit the Frioul islands, La Navette to get to Point Rouge and L'Estaque, restaurants, museums, the Panier, the Citadel, shopping, the excellent reflective roof, fish market, you get it. Metro station and lots of bus lines, including the 83 which takes you up and down the Corniche. Safe area as long as you take the usual precautions.

Les Petits Trains de Marseille offer a delightful way to explore the city, especially for families with kids. The charming little train resembles an old steam locomotive and provides an entertaining and educational tour of Marseille's key attractions and historical sites. With three different routes available depending on the season, visitors can enjoy narrated tours that cover the Corniche, Old City, and even take them up to the famous hilltop church, Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde.
Wonderful experience to take you along the coast and up the hill to see the basilica. There aren't a lot of public transit options to go up there but $10/adult and $5/child is a great value. It's a pretty smooth ride and pretty quick to go up and down the hill. They drop you off at the basilica and you can spend however long you want there, just keep your ticket and head back.
James — Google review
Excellently organized train. Buy tickets in the center near the port, it departs often, there are many of them, in two directions (red and green, depends on the part of the city you want to visit). There are headphones next to you, you choose the language and a tour of the chalk. There is quite a long way to go, in my opinion the route leading to Notre Dame is mandatory, because everything about it and around it is indescribable and imposing. The car leaves you in the parking lot, you save the tickets and on the way back you enter another one. There is not much waiting, but don't go with hats and creams, the sun is strong on the hill where the building is built. On the way back, the ride was interesting because the streets are steep, like going down a slide. Everything I have about driving in 2025 is in the photos.
Ana F — Google review
Great ride. We got in early and there was no line. When we got back the line was already very long. There is 1 stop along the way with great panoramic view.
Peleg B — Google review
The Petit Train is a wonderful way to see the highlights of Marseille without tiring yourself out, especially if you’re short on time or less able to walk up the city’s steep streets. The tour typically starts down by the Old Port (Vieux Port) and winds its way up to the iconic Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde, offering breathtaking views of the city and the Mediterranean along the way. The ride is comfortable, with an audio guide available in multiple languages (English, French, German, Spanish, and Italian), adding context to what you’re seeing. You'll learn about the rich history of Marseille, its transformation from a Greek settlement to a bustling port city, and stories about its most famous landmarks. While it’s a bit touristy — and the seats can be somewhat small — it’s a great way to orient yourself, rest your feet, and appreciate the city’s character. Some say the ride feels bouncy on the cobblestone streets, but that's all part of its vintage appeal. Overall, the Petit Train is a convenient, charming, and family-friendly activity — especially for first-time visitors or those with limited mobility — that lets you appreciate the best of Marseille in a short ride.
Kungfu-pigeon — Google review
The best way to explore Marseille and really good value at €10/adult. It’s also the best way to get to Notre-Dame De La Garde and you can get of and explore here and catch another one back. They run every 10mins ish too. Go early to avoid the crowds and the heat. We went around 10am on 31st July and no queues or crowding and were back in the Old Port by midday having seen all we wanted to see.
Steve S — Google review
We came off from the cruise ship and wanted to join the hop on hop off bus in Marseille. We were glad we did not pre-book the tickets in advance. The line to the bus was so long. At least 50 people. It looked like we would have to wait at least 1 hr to get on. With the time constraints, we were looking for another option. The taxi driver was very helpful in taking us into town to find the Petit Trains de Marseille. She said this would be a better option and it was less expensive and it would take us to all the tourist areas as well. We paid for the tickets 10 euros per person which was quite reasonable. Only one line of two available was working that day but it was the one we wanted to go on. The mini train ride was quite relaxing and very scenic. We were glad this other option to tour Marseille was available in addition to the Colorbus hop on hop off bus.
Andy L — Google review
Is a convenient and charming way to see the city's main sights, especially the famous Notre-Dame de la Garde Basilica. It's great for avoiding the steep walk and offers fantastic views. While it can feel a bit touristy, it's a worthwhile, fun ride that provides a good overview of the city.

One of the options to get to and from Notre-Dame de la Garde is to take the Petit Train 🚂 The train departs from the Old Port to Notre Dame de la Garde via the corniche on the seafront. (Circuit no 1) There’s nice view of the coastline and speakers playing guided tour in English and Spanish along the way. It’s fun, relaxing and hassle free. 😎

Hôtel Hermès Vieux Port

Hotel
Hôtel Hermès Vieux Port is a budget-friendly accommodation option located near the Old Port area, offering bright rooms with views of the port. It's conveniently situated just a short walk from the ferry terminal, making it an ideal starting point for boat tours and island visits. The hotel underwent renovations in 2018, adding a rooftop terrace with panoramic views and a bar serving refreshing drinks and tasty bites.
This was the perfect choice for us for an overnight stay. Basic amenities, very clean, great service. Location can’t be beat. The view from the rooftop is the cherry on the cake!
Sarah N — Google review
For the (high) paid we got: 1. One 1/2 liter water for a two person room, the first night only. 2. The only amenity is body soap/shampoo dispenser nailed to the wall 3. No hand towels. I was given a third body towel upon request. It was removed by the cleaning person by second night. 4. No kettle or complimentary coffee/tea 5. There's a desk but the "chair" is an uncomfortable chest/bench. After six hours working sitting there, my body hurt. Internet is good for basic browsing, terrible for anything else. Forget zoom calls. 6. No outlets near the bed. I understand the building is old but in 2025, this is basic. 7. Shower head holder broken 8. The view in the room is a building in front. You have to make an effort to view sideways a bit of the port. 9. The rooftop was rented the first night by private event, so couldn't be enjoyed. (One of the reasons to choose this hotel) 10. The check-in is 3pm and not a minute before. Doesn't matter if the room is ready ( and it was). 11. No secure luggage room. You are allowed to leave your luggage in the breakfast room, but at your own risk of anyone taking it. 12. Finally, the room is supposed to have AC but it was practically inexistent. And for this we should get a discount. A fan was provided. That worked ok, but still, it's the same as having a functional AC. * Some positives; comfortable bed and public transportation accessibility.

A lovely great value hotel in the heart of the old port. We only stayed for two nights at the start of our Summer tour of Provence and we’ll be back for the last night too before we fly back to the UK. It’s simple but very clean and is an ideal place to explore the area as you are next to the Petit Train and boat trips. It’s only a €15 Bolt to the Train Station too. We didn’t have breakfast as tend to prefer a “brunch” later in the day but the offerings looked tasty and with variety too. The best bit is the 6th floor roof terrace where you can have your breakfast and it turns into a bar after 6pm. The views are stunning and drinks are the same prices as the local bars too.
Steve S — Google review
Rooms are a bit small, but it’s for a great price, so it’s a more than reasonable compromise. Clean, and the staff is great about cleaning and restocking towels and other toiletries. Very friendly staff, and an amazing location. Rooftop bar is great- amazing view, and probably the most friendly and amazing workers I’ve met in the entire country. Highly recommend, especially if you want a great price, but still with hotel quality.
Ben M — Google review
Nice hotel for one night. Clean. The room was tiny, so I wouldn't quite choose it for longer stay. (maybe they have a bigger one, I didn't check) The lady at the front desk was very nice and we were able to leave our bags in storage after checkout and pick them up when we left for the airport. The rooftop bar is brilliant, it has a really nice atmosphere and view. Also great location
Roman P — Google review
Firstly, we did not feel welcomed when we entered this hotel. The staff could be nice to you sometimes, but we did not feel prioritzed as guests and sometimes we felt awkward to ask questions. They do have a great terass as a rooftop bar. For some reason they do not trusts their guests, for instance you’ll have to leave your room key everytime you step out of the hotel (even for 5 minutes), when we invited some friends to come up to the rooftop we had to walk down five storys (the elevator was broken) to identify ourselves as guests. Secondly, the AC was broken one day and the elevator was broken the next, still no compensation for the inconvenience. Our staying at this hotel could be much better.
André — Google review
Nice hotel, awesome staff Upsides were the breakfast offered although we didn't participate, the rooms were quiet despite the proximity to the harbour. Well stocked rooftop bar with great view. Downside were the broken elevator (minor) and the fact how the facilities themselves were a tad dated, leading to some ugly stains visible and a too small room

L'Espigoulier is a charming restaurant located on the Old Port, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu features a generous variety of Provencal dishes, including mussel pot-au-feu and spaghetti with clams. Visitors can also enjoy specialties from both land and sea. Guests have praised the friendly waitstaff and the stunning view of Notre Dame at sunset. The restaurant is known for its authentic local cuisine, fair pricing, and excellent service.

I ordered the prawn pasta (recommended by the waiter). The seafood isn’t cleaned. I asked the waitress (someone different) and asked do they not clean their seafood. She said it was normal (checked with manager), took quite a bit of back and forth to come to just paying the bill to leave. If you are used to seafood not being cleaned then it’s fine but if not it’s not good. And there was grit in the pasta itself. It was not good. I paid for it (painfully) even though had only about 2 spoonfuls of pasta.

We came here guided by the prices in their website. They were outdated and it was more expensive than we thought. Not the best way to start your dinner as a customer. Then we ordered two Assiette de L'Espigoulier. The food wasn't fresh. The fried were too oily and soggy. Same with the fish. The calamari was beignets instead of fresh calamari. So our experience wasn't good. The staff was very nice, but unfortunately that's not enough to recommend the place. They did came to talk with us and we shared our experience, but they didn't offer any discount from the bill, which is the minimum expected in situations like this. Go to the restaurant next door, Marseille en Cornet, they seemed to be doing better with seafood.

Fair location. Decent prices compared to others in the area. Good fresh fish, big portions. Nothing fancy about the location but it offered a comfortable ambiance. We liked the fish dishes we took. We also took panis at appetizer, i did not find it too good, try other apetizers if you go there.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! I ordered the mussels with vegetables and fried; it is the worst one I ever ate before. They gave few carrots and eggplant to make it veggie version. The cream sauce is thick and sticky. They didn’t even to use any white wine to make the soup base (sauce) … omg! The fried is not fresh made. So Garbage 😕

Service was impeccable, the waitress was really nice and kind. Sad note: the shrimp pasta was overcooked and I had nausea afterwards.

French restaurant
Le Miramar is a renowned restaurant located in Marseilles Old Port, offering a delightful selection of French and Mediterranean seafood dishes. The establishment is famous for its bouillabaisse, a traditional fisherman's dish from Marseille that has become a symbol of local culinary expertise. Le Miramar takes pride in being the founding member of the Bouillabaisse Marseillaise charter, ensuring the highest quality and authenticity of this iconic dish.
I loved my experience. I tried Bouillabaisse for the first time. The waiters were kind and attentive. The chef sends out a couple of small dishes before hand to try. I thought the soup was amazing. Great views of vieux port.
May J — Google review
We booked lunch at Le Miramar based on a recommendation. The restaurant is in a great location overlooking the port and there’s a traditional feel as you walk in the restaurant. We ordered the Bouillabaisse, again this was based on a recommendation. The first course of soup was richly flavoured, however in our opinion the second course with the fish parts wasn’t good, so we were naturally disappointed. We also had a few tasting morsels of bread with salmon mousse and mussels in tomato sauce which were distinctly average. The customer service is very good though, very welcoming, polite and attentive.

France is world famous for its best cuisine and... Le Miramar restaurant fits into the canons of exquisite flavors of the dishes served. Beautifully presented appetizers and dishes are pleasing both visually and make the taste buds go crazy. Only connoisseurs of exquisite cuisine will appreciate this place.
Piotr T — Google review
The atmosphere is missing music. The food was served not too fast. We had to wait at least 20 min between starters and main. Food looks very fancy. Unfortunately, the taste is not included. The flavors and recipes are weird. Literally, you expect so much for the price and the way it served. And the bread here is really bad. Not acceptable. Mussels (starter) actually were very tasty. But pasta with lobster and staffed fish ... well. I would not recommend to order it.
Mariia W — Google review
I booked this restaurant before reading all the bad reviews, therefore I was very apprehensive however I decided to post here because the place does not deserve bad reviews. It is true that it could be considered slightly overpriced however the quality was top, food tasty, service nothing to complain about in particular the attention during service. These are some photos which include complimentary plates from the Chef. Unfortunately no photos of the meat but it was top. The only minus could be that tables on the side are very crammed therefore not leaving enough space for privacy.

I had the famous (and famously expensive) bouillabaisse at Le Miramar. For me it was absolutely brilliant, loved it. Yes it's quite pricey but I left very full and very satisfied with the quantity, quality and ambiance. Adding a glass of wine it's a 100 EUR lunch. So wouldn't probably repeat, but worth trying it if it doesn't break your bank? Sure

Wonderful place right on the water. Excellent friendly service with a wonderful choice of food focusing on fish and seafood I was amazed to see whelks as a starter which were so fresh and delicious. I also had to have their famous bouillabaisse which was amazing and prepared in the terrace Not the cheapest place on earth but worth it to celebrate the first night of our hols

LE CAPUCIN, led by chef Sylvain Touati, offers a delightful dining experience with hearty and innovative brasserie-style dishes. The chic and lively ambiance of the dining room complements the exceptional craft cocktails served at the bar. Guests rave about the octopus burger and monkfish with autumn vegetables, as well as the delectable Lebanese and avocado desserts. The famous Fish Soup served in steel teapots is a standout dish that impresses with its incredible flavor.
I am impressed by their main dishes and desserts. Octopus burger, I never thought this combination, but it exceeded my expectation for a burger. Another main dish we have is monkfish with autumn vegetables. All seasonal foods tasted great. We tried the Lebanon dessert and an avocado one. You definitely need to try them. Lebanon one is a cake decorated with pistachio and caramels nut. the cake body is covered by a white layer that has a strong rose aroma. this is the greatest dinner we had in Marseille.

Initially, I thought it was a hotel restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary. But what a surprise! The food, at the level of a Michelin-starred restaurant (and I have eaten in many restaurants around the world). The service, impeccable. The staff, extremely friendly. Even though we don't know French at a conversational level, they didn't make us feel uncomfortable for a second. You can communicate in English very easily. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This was the best food I ever had!! This was even better than a Michelin Star restaurant I ate at. Le Capucin seriously deserves a Michelin Star. We paid 49 euros for the food in the pictures including room service charge. Their famous Fish Soup was in the steel tea pots, we were blown away by the incredible flavour. This would honestly cost over $200 in Canada. I have no idea why this place only has a 4.3 rating, I wonder if jealous competition has put up bad reviews to bring their rating down? They deserve a 5 Star rating all around!!
Paul S — Google review
Had high expectations for some proper French cooking, and it was met with mixed feelings. The pork belly dish was good, but not great. The lamb burger, with haloumi and tzatziki is truly awful, and I suggested to the waiter that it should be removed from the menu. There is nothing French or classy about it. A plain burger roll, not toasted, not buttered, just soggy and tasteless. Our dessert was very enjoyable, and the best part of the meal. Also, the waiters were very helpful and friendly, so they helped to make it a nice evening.
Ilya L — Google review
The newly opened brasserie is the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for great quality food, friendly staff and efficient service. The menu is simple focusing on a smaller range of well curated dishes rather than a “all you can eat” style. The cook is a very approachable and super talented guy, his dishes are little art creations full of flavor. The restaurant manager and the rest of the staff is really going to look after you. On Sunday they are open for lunch offering fixed menu, which is a good alternative at a reasonable price. Prices vary from around €15 for a starter to around €25 for a main. If you are in the area I would strongly recommend to pay them a visit, this place is a little gem that deserves to be discovered.
Andrea R — Google review
Absolutely disappointing 😞 We took starter, main and dessert, thinking that it will be delicious but the food had no taste. Starter was too salty and you couldn't differentiate any of the ingredients. I took the butcher piece and the piece had too many gristle which made it hard to enjoy. It came with no vegetables just potatoes. The dessert was another disappointment unfortunately. You can taste that the caramel on the tasting was about to burn. Very expensive and disappointing experience. The waitress did not ask if we enjoyed it , probably because they saw our plates and faces. Very nice staff buy bad and no taste food.

The Orange Vélodrome, home to the Olympique de Marseille football club, is a renowned sports stadium and event venue in France. Originally built as a cycling track in 1937, it has since been redeveloped with a distinctive undulating roof and modern features. With a seating capacity of 67,000, it is one of the largest stadiums in France and has hosted significant events such as the FIFA World Cup.
One of the highlights of Marseille! A must visit if you can attend a game. Stadium itself is comfortable and easy to access by public transport.

Orange Velodrome is a second biggest stadion in France after Saint Denis stadion in Paris. We went there to watch a football match between O.Marseille and Le Havre, which was one of the League 1 matches of the french championship. The place has a unique architecture and acoustics, so it has been used for a number of pop concerts also. The entrance to the stadion is more then well organized, with more then welcoming and pleasant staff (at least when it's about entrance of the ladies to the match). The access to the stadion is quite wide, which makes a vast number of people enter the tribune in relatively short amount of time. Public transportation leads you very close to the main two entrances of the stadion that are set on the opposite sides, and infront of the stadion you can buy drinks and fast food on small stands. Everything is well marked, so you can't get lost. Hygiene in the toilets is OK considering it's a public space and there is a lot of staff members that can lead you to your seat's among which there is not much of those that are speaking English. Lighting conditions are great, as well as the acoustics but the biggest plus is definitely the atmosphere among fans of the O. Marseille. I recommend entering about half an hour earlier, so that you don't miss out on the friendly atmosphere among the fans. If you're a fan of football, you'll be thrilled that fans are cheerleading for almost all of the game time, without any incidents or a bad behavior. Certainly a must see! "Droit au but"!

We were at a Bruce Springsteen concert. A beautiful stadium with a very good flow of people entering and leaving it. There is a huge parking lot nearby.

Went to watch Ed Sheeran's concert. They opened the gates on time and it only took less than 5 mins to enter. The signages were big so you won't get lost where Porte and Block you'll be in. The stadium is indeed spacious but the movements were limited when seated. You either have to leave your seat so others can walk their way to their own seat or move your body sideways. The aisle is too narrow. But overall, it was fine.

The best part is ..... there are no dog poos !! There are many unusual trees from different parts of the world that were planted a long time ago. Some have their names on them. It's a good place to take your kids, especially to teach them how to ride a bicycle. It does get busy at weekends and during school holidays. Springtime is probably a good season to stroll around as you can enjoy all the new flowers. There's also a rose garden worth visiting.

Cathédrale La Major is a grand 19th-century neo-Byzantine cathedral located in the historic Le Panier district of Marseille. Its exterior is a majestic blend of Byzantine and Romanesque styles, with green and white limestone covering the monument. The opulent interior features marble, mosaics, and murals that create a striking contrast to the outer surface.
We did not see this cathedral on the city's highlights must see location but was extremely impressed by it. The cathedral is huge, the decor and the small statues on the doors and pillars are so detailed they looked real. The inside was actually a lot bigger than it looked from the outside. A lady was singing a song when we walked in and just added to the ambience. There were so many statues of different poses and their details were just incredible and I was so memorized. The best part was that it was free to enter.

📍 Start Point: MuCEM / Fort Saint-Jean Bridge (Esplanade J4) Duration: 10 minutes • Begin your tour at the MuCEM plaza, right by the sea — it’s one of Marseille’s most scenic starting points. • Your guide introduces the area’s layered history: • The Old Port as Marseille’s trading heart since 600 BC. • The fortifications (Fort Saint-Jean) built by Louis XIV. • How this area became the cultural gateway with the MuCEM and La Major side by side. • Enjoy panoramic photos: MuCEM’s architecture, the sea, and the cathedral rising ahead. ⸻ 🚶‍♀️ Walk to Cathédrale La Major Duration: 5 minutes (400 m easy walk along the waterfront) • The guide points out the contrast between old and new Marseille — warehouses turned into cafés, the cruise port, and the open view toward the Frioul Islands. • Stop at the Teddy Bear statue (Ours Jayet 2020) for a quick fun photo and contemporary art reference. ⸻ 🕍 Main Stop: Cathédrale La Major – Exterior Tour Duration: 15 minutes • Your guide explains: • Built from 1852–1896 on the site of an earlier 12th-century Romanesque cathedral (some ruins still visible beside it). • The unique Neo-Byzantine style — alternating green and white limestone, domes inspired by St. Mark’s (Venice) and Hagia Sophia (Istanbul). • Symbolism: how Marseille, “Gateway to the Mediterranean,” influenced this East-meets-West design. • Photo tips: • Capture the façade head-on from the plaza for symmetry. • Include the harbour and MuCEM for a dramatic backdrop. ⸻ ⛪ Interior Visit Duration: 20 minutes • Step inside for a short but meaningful exploration. Your guide highlights: • The main nave (142 m long) — one of France’s largest. • The marble mosaic floor, multi-coloured stone pillars, and domed ceiling mosaics. • The main altar and choir, designed with imported marble from Italy and Tunisia. • The side chapels, each reflecting a different Mediterranean influence. • The crypt, where remains of the earlier cathedral and bishops of Marseille rest (if open). • Pause for reflection or quiet photography (no flash). ⸻ 🌅 Esplanade & Viewpoint Walk Duration: 10 minutes • Exit via the esplanade terrace overlooking the sea. • The guide points out: • The Old Port entrance (Vieux-Port). • Fort Saint-Jean and Notre-Dame de la Garde on the hill across the bay. • The evolving waterfront district of La Joliette and the modern “Les Docks.” • This is your panoramic photo moment — best at sunset or late afternoon. ⸻ ☕ End Point: Café or View Stop (optional) Duration: 5 minutes • End the tour at a nearby café on Boulevard Jacques Saadé or Les Terrasses du Port. • Your guide can suggest where to sit for the best harbour view or where to continue exploring on your own (Le Panier district or Fort Saint-Jean walkway). ⸻ 🎧 Notes for Organizing • Duration: 1 hour (efficient walking loop) • Total walking distance: ~1.2 km (flat terrain) • Languages: Most guides available in English, French, Spanish, or Italian. • Ideal time: 10 am (soft morning light) or 5–6 pm (sunset glow). • Meeting point: MuCEM main entrance or Esplanade J4. • Approx. cost: €10–15 per person for a small group tour (private guides €50–80/hour).

Cathédrale La Major is one of Marseille’s most striking landmarks — a grand 19th-century basilica that towers above the sea near the Old Port. Built in a bold Byzantine-Roman style with striped marble and elegant domes, it stands out beautifully against the Mediterranean backdrop. The interior is equally impressive, adorned with mosaics, marble columns, and vaulted ceilings that create a serene, majestic atmosphere. Its terrace also offers sweeping views over the harbor and Le Panier district. Both spiritual and architectural, La Major is a must-see gem that captures Marseille’s blend of faith, history, and grandeur.
Ivy N — Google review
The cathedral is located in a beautiful place. The view of the landscape around her is as spectacular as herself. From the outside it is grandiose, inside every fresco and statue will hold your attention, no matter what religion you are. A must visit and take some time to look around. We parked ten minutes' walk from it, but the city is well connected by metro lines. It is spacious and demanding to get around. Find out which type of tour suits you best.
Ana F — Google review
Walking up to Cathedral La Major in Marseille, I was immediately struck by its immense scale and the rich details of its architecture. The cathedral stands as a majestic blend of Romanesque Revival and Byzantine styles, a true testament to the city’s complex history and strong spirit. The two immense towers that frame its entrance reach upward, adding a dramatic silhouette against the Mediterranean sky. We arrived just as mass was concluding, which turned out to be a profoundly moving moment. Inside, a woman was singing in French alongside the majestic notes of the organ, creating a rich, ethereal ambiance that filled every corner of the vast space. The combination of her voice and the organic-like reverberations made the moment feel eternal, a pure expression of faith and artistry. The intricate mosaics, soaring arches, and lavish details made for a breathtaking experience, reflecting both the past and future of Marseille.

The menu includes options like eggplant, zucchini, mushroom cream, and salad. Visitors can enjoy their meals outside the shop while taking in the pleasant atmosphere. Despite some cleanliness issues with the tables, patrons praise the generous portion sizes and affordable prices.
They have a vegan option called “Don pietro”. Both the focaccia and the ingredients inside were very delicious especially the eggplant. Not super impressed with this place. My boyfriend ordered delivery and not only did they give the wrong drink (Coke instead of Coke Zero), but also the bread tasted stale as if it was from the day before or even two days ago. The price was €33.80 but including delivery was €38.85 for not great quality or quantity. Would not recommend. Also no vegan options.

Totally worth the price! Came here for our anniversary. We got our requested window seating, with the full view of the Notre dame de la gare. Though I have to say it is not as impressive at night, too dark to see outside. It would have been perfect during the day. Food portion was very generous. They fed us well. To the point, we asked for a 15 minute break and went outside for a walk. Food quality was top! The fish and oyster dishes are very well done. Their signature deconstructed bouillabaisse was a delightful experience as well. The pigeon dish was the only that didn't really hit the mark. It was a tad too tough. We had the wine pairing option, which included 4 glasses, full servings. We are both not heavy drinker, so it was a bit too much for us. But the selection was good. Highlight of the evening for us, the final figue and cardamom dessert. We were surprised by how well they pair together. The earthy bitter notes of the cardamom perfectly balance the sweetness and acidity of the figue! We wanted seconds, but obviously we couldn't anymore. Service was impeccable. All staffs speak fluent English. Ambiance could be improved, notably the acoustic. The noise from the rest of the room was a bit distracting throughout the service. They should consider investing in improving the acoustic of the room. Final verdict: Well worth the price, we paid 105EUR for the 5 course menu + 70EUR for the wine pairing. Highly recommended and would definitely return again!

What an amazing meal and experience we had while dining at Alcyone! The staff, the atmosphere, the food presentations, the extra surprises- all FANTASTIC. AND- they catered to my Gluten free and vegetarian meal requests. We created memories at this dining experience that will last a lifetime.

Alcyone was a spectacular dining experience. Even though we arrived late during a travel issue, they were kind enough to hold our table and very welcoming. We had the 8-course tasting menu and everything was perfect. All while enjoying a view of Notre Dame de la Garde. Their treatment of a bouillabaisse was a special highlight. The sommelier was knowledgeable and matched our pairings perfectly. Kudos to Chef Levy and his team.

Otto Marseille is a charming trattoria located in the Saint-Giniez and Perier neighborhoods of Marseille. It is the younger sibling of La Cantinetta, known for its Italian cuisine. The restaurant is situated in Marcel Pagnol's former canteen and offers a cozy atmosphere where guests can enjoy a selection of high-quality charcuterie, cheeses, and classic Italian dishes.
IG: @melvineateat $$$ (50 EUR per pax) 9/10 Absolutely amazing. Even though it’s not exactly French food, kinda like French-Italian, it’s one of the best meals I’ve had in Marseille. Sea bass tartare with lemon and hummus (14 EUR) - Fresh and tasty, umami and goes well with bread Burrata Puglese and tomato cream (14 EUR) - Tasty, excellent Octopus salad (15 EUR) - Best starter in my opinion. Octopus was fresh, lemon added a tangy sensation, chives and tomato added texture Linguine all vongole (23 EUR) - clams were very fresh and sweet, pasta cooked just nice. Wished the pasta had abit more clam juice but still very good Veal with tagliatelle (24 EUR) - Amazing creamy sauce blended well with the tender meat and pasta Steak with fries (26 EUR) - sauce so concentrated with flavour, fries crispy yet soaked up the sauce well. Steak was juicy af

Otto !! Such a small restaurant with the best food in Marseille. We were searching for a restaurant last minute as we were visiting Marseille for one day and found this amazing restaurant. We were lucky enough to get a table without reservation but the restaurant was full after we sat down. The service was great so was the food . Everything we ordered was delicious and price was reasonable. I loved the octopus salad particularly.

Excellent on every point, from booking to welcoming, service on point and the food was amazing. Price is also incredibly affordable, especially for the quality delivered.

Got the beef, vongole pasta and escalopine. For dessert, had the tarte tartin. All dishes were seasoned nicely, esp the escalopine. Food was good value for money, service was friendly and efficient, ambience was nice! Originally reserved to be sat outside, but we asked to be transferred indoor, and the lady was really nice to let us pick any seat inside. Would recommend for both food and ambience!

Brilliant dinner spot in Marseille. Although we were initially worried about how far it was from Vieux Port where we were staying, it was well worth the trip. The neighborhood was charming and the food was superb. The servers and owners were friendly and helpful. Go to Otto to dine outside and enjoy a pichet of wine and fantastic Mediterranean-Italian food!

COPAINS is a newly opened restaurant in Marseille, founded by Pauline Lagon and Jules Girandon. The place is known for its expertise in natural wines and offers a seasonal gastronomic menu featuring dishes like carpaccio of lean fish with crunchy vegetables, octopus tapas with chistera and corn puree, and seared trout with smoked beets and leek emulsion.
French degustation at its best. Impeccable service. Elegant wine pairings. A must.

Incredible food, super friendly staff (who speak excellent English) and beautiful atmosphere. Whilst staying in Marseille we went to Copain’s twice, for the dinner tasting menu and the lunch menu. All dishes were spectacular! All my friends were meat eaters and loved their dishes. Im vegan and the Chefs were so accommodating and created special dishes that matched the meat menu. I did give them about 12hrs notice so they had time to prepare it for me which I would highly recommend doing if you have any dietary requirements. Highly recommend if you are in Marseille!

We trusted other good reviews for this restaurant and were really disappointed. Each course felt tasteless, unloved and like a scam. This was SO expensive for tacos that could have been made for 5 euros, cold fish in watery thin gravy and an inedible desert. We only went out for dinner once on our holiday to save money and ended up spending all our budget on this one place that left us feeling really sad and defeated. We went 6 months ago and I’m still thinking about it.

Nestled near the iconic Vieux-Port and easily reachable via public transport, Les Terrasses du Port is a vibrant shopping destination in Marseille that offers more than just retail therapy. This bustling center features a diverse array of shops showcasing both local and international brands, making it a perfect spot for fashion enthusiasts. Clean and well maintained Shopping Center, average in size with a great, I would even say spectacular view at the port side from where Corsica Linea ferry are leaving towards different destination of Corsica or North Africa. Plenty of brands, including Apple Store, available at the hand, along with some options of restaurants. It is worth while to visit.

Le Panier Marseillais is the oldest district in Marseille, known for its historic charm and vibrant atmosphere. Once a neighborhood of fishermen and immigrants, it now boasts cobblestoned streets, colorful buildings, and artisan shops. The area is reminiscent of Montmartre in Paris and offers a mix of grit and charm that's truly captivating. Visitors can explore Provencal-style buildings with colorful facades, discover street art works, and enjoy numerous cafes and alternative clubs.
Lively old neighborhood revived 12 years ago, when Marseille became cultural capital of Europe. Nice cafes, shops are offering variety of authentic products and drinks. Please note that most of the shops and restaurants are closed after 8 pm (it was on Monday, but still awkward to be closed that early).

This is the oldest district in Marseille and embodies the city’s rich history and identity. Once a working-class neighborhood, it has been revitalized through urban regeneration and now thrives as a vibrant center for leisure, creativity, and tourism. The name Le Panier (The Basket) originates from an inn with a sign depicting a basket that existed in the area during the 17th century. Over time, the name came to refer to the entire neighborhood. Characterized by narrow, winding alleys, steep streets, and aged buildings, Le Panier feels like a living maze. Today, it's akin to an open-air gallery, filled with street art, colorful murals, floral decorations, artisan shops, and charming cafés.

Le Panier is Marseille’s oldest and most picturesque neighborhood — a maze of narrow streets, colorful facades, and artistic charm. Once a working-class district, it’s now a creative hub filled with boutiques, art studios, and cozy cafés tucked between pastel-painted buildings. Street art decorates nearly every corner, adding a vibrant contrast to its ancient architecture. Highlights include La Vieille Charité, a stunning 17th-century monument, and the panoramic views over the port. Wandering through Le Panier feels like stepping into a lively open-air gallery — authentic, bohemian, and full of southern French spirit

If you’re visiting Marseille and looking for a one-stop spot for shopping, dining, and souvenirs, Galeries Lafayette is a perfect choice. Located in the heart of the city, this department store offers a wide selection of French and international brands, making it ideal for everything from fashion finds to last-minute gifts. Souvenir shopping is especially convenient here—whether you’re after gourmet treats, local cosmetics, or classic Marseille-themed items, you’ll find high-quality options in one place. The layout is easy to navigate, and the staff are generally helpful, even if you don’t speak fluent French. There are also several food options inside or nearby, ranging from casual cafés to upscale dining, perfect for a quick break or a relaxed meal after shopping. Another plus: the restrooms are clean and accessible, with a small usage fee of just €0.80, which is a fair trade-off for the convenience and cleanliness. Overall, Galeries Lafayette in Marseille is a great place to spend an hour—or an afternoon. Whether you’re shopping for yourself or others, grabbing a bite, or just taking a restroom break, it’s worth a visit.

We were searching for a quiet place to sit with our baby sleeping in the stroller. After making eye contact with the waiter, we went to sit in the back of the terrace. A minute later, the waiter came to us and asked if we reserved. After replying that we didn't, he sent us out with a whistle like dogs (seriously, not joking). Incredible. Surreal.

Don’t miss this restaurant if you are in Marseille. The restaurant in the old part of Marseille “Le Panier” is laid out in a premise which is not really made for a restaurant but optimally designed. Gregory will nicely welcome you and explain you the menu in a theatrical gesture! Bruno in his tiny, but well organised and tidy kitchen, will execute your meal. Hot meals are mainly steamed which means that the ingredient have to be really fresh and they are. beside of the wine they also offer you an interresting range of locally brewed beers Prices for food and drinks are very fair.

Fine dining restaurant
Une Table au Sud, meaning A Table in the South, is a renowned restaurant located in the heart of Marseille's Vieux Port. This sophisticated dining spot offers breathtaking views of the harbor and serves a blend of imaginative local and global cuisine with a contemporary twist. Established in 2013, it has since earned a Michelin star under the guidance of chef Ludovic Turac and his team.
Great dinner experience! I absolutely loved the vibe as it was matching the quay outside with seafood and water decor. The staff were very polite, professional, and with eye to detail. The food itself was very pleasant. We had the 7 course set menu and I loved everything on it. The most, I loved the blue lobster and the desserts were nice as they were fresh, fruity, and not too heavy. They also served 3 types of bread, which was a bit much for me personally as matching 3 breads with 7 courses is too much. But, the first bread with olives was absolutely delicious as it was warm, tasty, and very soft. Overall, great place that I highly recommend!!!
Nikol H — Google review
A very nice and enjoyable lunch, in the heart of Marseille, with spectacular views on Vieux Port. The cuisine has deep Provençal roots with some clins d’œil to Armenia (the young Chef, Ludovic Turac, was born in Marseille but has an Armenian grandmother). It is full of the flavors from this cosmopolitan city and uses various spices from around the Mediterranean (every dish comes with a sampler of the spices used in its composition). The cooking is modern, but without the gimmicks that « modern cooking » sometimes entails. What is modern is the freshness of the ingredients (whose origins are always specified), the clarity of the preparation, the accuracy of the cooking, and the lightness of the dishes. We had the menu « essentiels », which feature two of the Provençal basics: aioli and bouillabesse. And they both taste like aioli and boyillabesse, but not in a traditional and roborative way. They are more like dreams or reminiscences of aioli and bouillabesse. The « cabillaud nacré » melts in the mouth and the aioli sauce, which is lightly emulsified, offers a pleasant accentuation that does not overpower the delicate taste of the fish. The « soup de roche » that accompanies the « rouget » of the bouillabesse, is strong and deep, as it suits to such kind of soup, but again, it does not take the main role. In both cases, there is a subtle balance between the various elements giving a feeling of plenitude but not of fullness. The meal unfolds, like a pleasant journey in the calanques, with its palette of colors and surprises. The cassis white wine was a perfect match to the rouget and the bouillabesse. The service is discreet and efficient. The tableware is original and well harmonized with the food. In short, a southern table, but rejuvenated and looking to the future. We will definitely come back.

Seriously good food, and a fantastic fine dining destination. A very creative chef who explores fine dining in an unusual, yet distinctive tastes. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, however, in many ways it is worth the high prices to enjoy a romantic dining experience.

The best meal I had in Marseille, Michelin restaurant 2024. I was taking their lunch set menu which was €85. All the food was very tasty and creative. The olive bread did surprise me a lot, I can't stop myself finishing the whole bread. The fish was excellent, it was so tender and fresh. The dessert was very creative. An absolutely outstanding restaurant which you shouldn't miss!

We went to 2, one star and 1, 2 star Michelin restaurants while on our Mediterranean trip. This was the best of them all! From the service to the food, everything was perfection! The prices were what you would expect from such a special restaurant. While all of the Michelin restaurants were creative, this topped them all. Even the bread was exquisite! The one dish in my photos was so creative, we had to figure out what part to eat! It was incredible!

This was an incredible experience. The food was killer. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Service was amazing. The wine pairings were perfect and appropriate pours. We were not even buzzed after dinner. Our only complaint was the timing of the courses. About half way through the courses started slowing down. I'm not sure if this was intentional. That's a minor grievance compared to the overall experience we had. Thank you for such a memorable visit.

Restaurant
La Mercerie is a trendy neobistro and wine bar located in Marseille's Noailles neighborhood. The restaurant features a mix of distressed walls, industrial-style lighting, and designer chairs, creating an impossibly hip atmosphere. British chef Harry Cummins crafts subtle and imaginative dishes using local, seasonal ingredients that cater to vegetarians and those with food allergies. The restaurant offers a three-course lunch menu and a five-course dinner menu served indoors or on the outdoor terrace.
Wow. Such an amazing experience and definitely worth it. Their 5 course menu is perfected, delicious and doesn’t leave you uncomfortably full. The waitstaff were so knowledgeable and helpful, we had some lovely conversations especially during the wine paring for each course. There was a unique event where local winemakers were dining at the restaurant and we were able to see who made the wines we drank. One even came around pouring his wine and sharing stories with us all. Truly an amazing experience. We sat at a table but saw the chef engaging with people sat at the bar and telling stories of the food to them so I would recommend that for sure!

My favorite restaurant in Marseille. The service here is exceptionally kind, making everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. The food is served “omakase” style (at a very fair price), ensuring you’re getting their very best in terms of local ingredients and preparation that brings out those amazing Provençal flavors. Reserve ahead as it’s understandably popular!

Could have been a great experience, what a pity! We were seated in the corner table close to the toilet. People kept on leaving the toilet door open and the smell was very distracting. I asked to be seated somewhere else but wasn‘t possible. Also didn‘t feel like I was taken seriously. To be honest, the table was a disgrace and people shouldn‘t be seated there in such a nice restaurant. Food was good. The pâtisserie chef was lovely and extemely kind. yesterday we had dinner at La Mercerie to use the American Express dining credit abroad. at first staff told us it was “reservation only” but then they let us sit down as long as we agreed to a surprise five course menu. we ordered the house wine to go with it. both, the menu and the wine, were very delicious. the staff was very attentive and friendly. in total, we paid €165 (€65 per menu) for two people.

This place is absolutely amazing. Super cool and friendly staff, really top notch food and great wine list. No-choice 5 course menu. All up cost with aperitifs, bottle of wine, cheese and 2 glasses rouge was ~€200 which is very good value for quality of food. Highly recommended !!!! Also open Sunday which is quite rare.

This is a place that never misses the target. We have been going here for a few years now and the level always remains high. It is well worthy of its reputation and is now becoming a Marseille institution. The flavors, technique, composition and presentation are always on point. Definitely do the dinner wine half pairings. Each glass brought out will add depth and dimension to the plates. It feels a bit more natural to describe what happens here in terms of skilled songwriting or musicianship. There are some musicians out there that just cannot write a bad song. Each note they play fits. This is what is happening here.
LouHotch — Google review
The five course tasting dinner paired with wine was exceptional. The staff was terrific. Friendly and energetic. The patio area was a disappointment because of all the scooter and motorcycle traffic that was nonstop between 7 and 9. Then there were the smokers. A definite negative in my opinion. If you aren't a smoker, reserve an indoor table.

Nestled along the vibrant quays of Joliette, Toïa has quickly become a must-visit destination for food enthusiasts. This spacious restaurant boasts a chic and modern design, creating an inviting atmosphere to enjoy its culinary delights. The star of the menu is undoubtedly the ceviche, featuring fresh fish marinated in zesty lime juice, coriander, and red onion—perfectly embodying Mediterranean flavors.
One of the best ceviche I've had in a long time. Spiced just right, served with delicious sweet potato fries and carrot salad. Attentive service and good prices. Didn't have room for dessert but they looked great . Will definitely go back.
Melina W — Google review
The ceviche was very good, but the portion seemed much smaller than all the photos posted previously here on Google - we didn’t think the ratio of food was equal to the price.

I dont understand how this place has such high reviews. Tuna tataki was mediocre, didnt look fresh. th Veal was just an embarassment. we barely touched it. The ceviche was decent, but we found bones in it. unacceptable. the fries that come with the ceviche were black. If I was the chef I would be embarassed to serve such fries. the staff was overall friendly, but didnt make any gesture when we said that the veal was not good. we paid the whole bill.

Wildlife refuge
Parc national des Calanques, established in 2012, is a stunning natural reserve located in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. Encompassing both land and sea areas, it spans over 8,500 hectares of land across Marseille, Cassis, and La Ciotat, along with 43,500 hectares of marine territory. This park boasts remarkable biodiversity with numerous protected terrestrial and marine species.
If you are here for tourism, you should definitely check this place. There are so many trekking points. And what a beautiful path! You will definitely fall in love with this place.

I can highly recommend climbing the Massif Marseilleveyre if you're into hiking. Steep climb, but astounding views of virtually the entirety of Marseille and surrounding Calanque. The unique limestone landscape was really cool, great for photography
Peter N — Google review
No fire, no smoking and no litter please ! Gemstone water at the foot of dizzy white cliffs. A good physical condition is better since you may need at minimum about 1h of walking one way from the parking to the beach. Check on the internet if the path is open, it closes on dry and windy times to limit wildfire risks and you need a reservation (free) during summer. You can also choose to dive there, which is a great way to see the Mediterranean fishes near Riou, where fishing is prohibited.
Paul A — Google review
Stunning place, rugged mountain cliffs perched above the mediteranean. Hiked the red-white trail from les Baumettes to Cassis, aprox 25km. Tough terrain, sometimes became quite exposed, not your average walk in the park, attention to the path and markings is key. Losing or missing a sign can lead you to the middle of nowhere. Bring plenty of water.
Gabriel F — Google review
Visiting the Calanques National Park was an absolutely sublime experience. The turquoise waters are breathtaking, and the way the sea crashes against the mountains creates a powerful, almost overwhelming sensation. I had the chance to discover it on a yacht, which made the experience even more unique and luxurious, allowing me to fully enjoy the hidden coves and majestic cliffs. The contrast between the crystal-clear sea, the bright limestone rocks, and the calm Mediterranean atmosphere is unforgettable. A true natural wonder that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Marseille.

Great place to spend time if you are traveling with kids. Lots of different animals to see. Interesting facts mentioned in attractive way for kids to read.

Beautiful national park on the Mediterranean coast. We were here rock climbing for a week. You could stay here a year and never do the same 2 climbs. So much to explore and climb. Incredible rock and views. Definitely do the 6 pitch 5.10a Arete de Marseille. Some of the more popular climbing areas are a little slick from wear. Still, worth it and highly recommend for a climbing trip!!
Andrew G — Google review
Well maintained national park with lots of properly marked hiking options! Good cliff diving experience can be gained at the calanque d’en Vau, for the adrenaline seekers! Pack a lot of water (minimum 2 ltrs per person) and supplies because one you leave from Parking du loggison, there’s no water source, ANYWHERE!!

Unité d'Habitation

Apartment building
Unité d'Habitation, also known as Cité Radieuse, is a modernist housing block designed by Le Corbusier in Marseille. Constructed between 1947 and 1952, it embodies the concept of transferring city amenities to a single building. The 18-storey concrete structure houses over 300 apartments, a hotel, a library, a school, and various businesses.
Deservedly a Marseille must-see. We had a highly knowledgeable English-speaking guide booked through the Tourist Board. There aren’t many English-language tours so do plan ahead. I won’t repeat the history story of this experimental building. Nor debate its pros and cons. All this is covered very fully by Perplexity. What I will say is that my opinion was given nuance by actually seeing Unité d'Habitation in context, in person, and inside. Admittedly a very niche interest, but it was also great to put on Peter Doig’s shoes and imagine him conceiving his ‘Concrete Cabins’ series of paintings.
Hamish P — Google review
Definitely worth the visit with excellent views from the roof and interesting stores and boutiques on the 3rd and 4th floors (also a restaurant and hotel.
Manuel M — Google review
A must for all modern architecture fans. It is free to enter and have a wonder. There are many details to admire, inside and out. You can access the roof for views over the city too.

It’s not just a historic building, there is amazing view from rooftop (almost 60m high) If you want to view Apartaments on tour guide I recommend to book week before, we arrived on Thursday and it wasn’t possible until Wednesday… You can feel „good times” there They have very good beers in the restaurant 🍺

Ema-Sinéad Z — Google review
A lovely spot to see the landscape of Marseille and the exhibition on the third floor is worth visiting too
Ruby G — Google review
Must visit if you are a fan of Le Corbusier. I visited on a Sunday and did not need to book a tour to access the building which was what I had thought from the website. I think they allow access everyday now, but could be worth checking before visiting. It was free. You may access a few floors, The rooftop and get a coffee or food at the hotel that has a cafe or buy an architecture book at the book shop. The place is fantastic in real life and has really been taken care of and appreciated by the Commune which I find often rare. Highly recommend.
Josh C — Google review
Went by car, found a place to park easily on the parking of the building. It is wonderful to see it if you have the time, but it is not a must. We spent around ten minutes analyzing and taking photos and that's it. Still, nice to pay respect to such an art piece.

Abbaye Saint-Victor is a fortified abbey in Marseille, founded by St. Cassian and built over a 5th-century crypt housing his sarcophagus. The abbey has a rich history dating back to the first century, with ties to French soldier turned martyr Victor of Marseilles. Over the years, it has served as both an abbey and a fort, playing various roles throughout its history.
Beautiful and mystic place with lovely, helpful people running it. It's the birthplace of Christianity in Marseille, set up by Marie Magdalene, Martha and Lazarus, in person. This is a real place of pilgrimage which transports you back in time. I will hopefully return one day.
Devon W — Google review
Without question my favorite spot I visited! Suchan amazing authentic feel! Even a bit damp feeling, as you've likely imagined in books and movies about the period, not fancy but beautiful and again far more authentic feeling than St Peter's Basillica and the like.
Tom — Google review
The church is beautiful, but the crypt is a must see. Marseille's past is hidden underground, and this journey to the 5th century takes you back to late antiquity and the earliest medieval period. I saw the world through different eyes after meditating on these artifacts from a distant past.
Noel B — Google review
Views from the top are nice. It's a good walk up there through the streets inside the castle walls
D K — Google review
This is worth a visit just to go down to the crypt. It was 3 euros to enter the crypt, and worth it. It has a fascinating history. And the areas of the crypt are well documented and explained. It was hard to believe that there is a huge church above it.The church itself is also beautiful.
Michelle B — Google review
One of Marseille’s most atmospheric and historically rich landmarks. Dating back to the 5th century, this ancient abbey overlooks the Old Port and offers a peaceful escape from the city’s bustle. Its dark stone walls, Romanesque architecture, and hauntingly beautiful crypts—home to early Christian sarcophagi and relics—create a truly mystical ambiance. The abbey also provides lovely views of the harbor from its upper terrace. A visit here feels like stepping back in time, making it a must-see for history lovers and those seeking the spiritual heart of Marseille.

Located in the upscale area behind Le Vieux Port, Marseille's Opéra de Marseille is a historic opera house founded in 1787. It boasts stunning architecture, luxurious furnishings, and excellent acoustics. The opulent interior features ornate decor and hosts a resident company that stages operas, ballets, and other performances throughout the year. The theater provides a cozy environment with a respectful audience. While it lacks air conditioning during summer months, visitors appreciate the quality of productions.
Acoustics is perfect. The seats in the balcony are a bit narrow.

Lovely building in a quieter area than the port. They’re a few shops and restaurants near by. I haven’t been able to attend any show during my visit but I enjoyed the beautiful architecture and design of it still
Fadoua S — Google review
• Historic & architectural significance: The Opera traces its origins back to 1787 (the original Grand-Théâtre) and the current building dates from 1924, built after a fire in 1919. • Impressive aesthetic: The auditorium is richly decorated — with Art Deco and classical details, a horseshoe-shaped hall with multiple rings/boxes, and ornate interior finishes. • Quality of performances: The company hosts opera, ballet, chamber music, and other live culture events, offering visitors a chance to experience high-level productions in Marseille. • Accessibility & cultural relevance: It is centrally located near the Vieux-Port and in a lively urban area, making it a convenient cultural stop in the city.

Opera de Marseille is a historic opera house. It was founded in 1787 and has since become one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the region. The opera house is known for its stunning architecture and acoustics, as well as its opulent interior, which features ornate decor and luxurious furnishings. The Opera de Marseille is home to a resident company that performs a wide range of operas, ballets, and other performances throughout the year. Visitors to the opera house can enjoy a variety of performances, ranging from classic operas to contemporary works, and can also take guided tours of the building to learn more about its history and architecture. Overall, the Opera de Marseille is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in the arts and culture of Marseille and the wider region of Provence.
Bahram M — Google review
The size of the theater and the respectful audience make this ópera a cozy environment. I have also loved the quality of the production i have attended. If I might point out something negative would be the absence of air conditioner. In summer you can tell is necessary.
Vero D — Google review
Good acoustics, beautiful interior. Nice operas throughout entire year. No Air-conditioning. The cheaper seats you barely see the stage and no place for long legs. Bring cash if you want to buy sandwich or a drink (no credit cards). You can buy tickets online, but technology like phone app ticket or even print-out your ticket have not arrived here. It remains a classic and old fashion opera house. Stuck on XX century.

Natural History Museums
The Natural History Museum of Marseille is a grand 19th-century museum that houses extensive collections of botanical, mineralogy, and zoology. For those seeking a luxurious stay, there are several high-end accommodations nearby with stunning views and unique features such as spas and cocktail bars. Families with curious little ones can enjoy visits, activities, and workshops at various museums throughout the city. The museum offers life-size games for children to explore while also providing themed courses and workshops for fans of prehistory.
This place is free as is the art room across the way at the Palais Longchamp (photo opportunities here). I did not even know it was there. The staff is so nice and will give you tips on surrounding places to visit. Keep in mind, this place is small (remember, it's free) but definitely check out the fossil room.... pretty cool!!!
ANA 2 — Google review
Small natural history exhibit that would be interesting for any age. Lots to see, many English translations. A great renovation of a Victorian " dead zoo" into something more relavant and modern but still has a curiosity cabinet feel.
Miranda O — Google review
We came here to provide some entertainment for my daughter. The museum is surprisingly small, just three rooms and is mostly stuffed animals and bones with a few gems. I'd only give it three stars except that it is free, so it was worth it to just stop in for about 45 minutes. It is part of the glorious Longchamp palace, so if anything it is worth it stop in if you are seeing Longchamp.
Anthony S — Google review
3 stars because the Longchamps Palace and the museum building itself are magnificent. The temporary exhibitions are always worth it (recently saw the NatGeo best pictures and it was mind blowing) but the price is too high and the staff looking after the rooms is so noisy and chatty it makes it really hard to enjoy the art.
Youssra M — Google review
A very beautiful museum there's some parts free and other that you need to pay for it 😉
John L — Google review
I visited the museum specifically for the national geographic exhibit. It was worth the €6 ticket. The museum itself is quite small but has an extensive (be it old and in need of some of repairs) collection of preserved wildlife. Would recommend if you have an hour to spare.
Carla S — Google review
For a small museum they packed lots of interactive informative activities to learn about life cycles and rock composition in ecosystems. There were so many taxidermed animals (I remember there was a sign saying they own over 2000 in their archive) there was a big variety of large mammals and reptiles to small insects. They house mosasuar skeleton and as cool as I percieve that to be the small space the museum is provided with lets down this Jurassic era specimen as it is cramped between other animals and you cannot truly see the scale of the animal. I think it would be an amazing sight to be displayed from the celling in either in its own room or in the entry hall where two staircases would frame it. Anyways it was a fun escape from unbearable heat outside and it wasn't very busy and for free admission it was a good use of a morning. (Look out for the fennec fox beneath the camel)

Palais Longchamp, a grand monument built in the mid-1800s, stands as a tribute to the completion of an impressive canal construction project in Marseille. The building's architecture combines Baroque, Roman, and Oriental styles and features a stunning sculpture fountain at its center. Visitors can explore the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Marseille and Le Museum d'Histoire Naturelle located within the palace complex.

Easily one of the best sites to visit in Marseille and France as a whole. Interesting and valuable history, and fantastic grounds. The fountains are simply breathtaking. Palais Longchamp also has the Beaux-Arts Museum and The Museum of Natural History. So all-in-all a great place to spend the day.

It's one of the beautiful historical architecture place I have visited. Beautiful for day spending.also I have seen people coming here to read books, paint and spent time with family and friends. And it holds an importance of how a city used to get water from river and this was a canal back in 16th-17th century. Built by Duke of Orleans. Beautiful and scenic

Mesmerizing and above all charming palace built by the instructions of Napoleon III. Great place for Instagram photos because of the gorgeous building architecture with an artificial waterfall under the statue. Two lovely fountains that are set in the small artificial lake are making you see the rainbows under the proper light conditions which certainly adds to the charm of this place. On one side of double sided stairs is a Natural history museum and on the other Museum of the Beautiful Arts which are a good-to-go places if you're visiting Marseille. Behind the structure is a lovely park and a metro and a bus station, so the place has a great connection to the other parts of the city with public transportation systems. My recommendation is to visit it during the afternoon hourse, and catch "a golden sun hour" cause seeing it at this time is certainly a remarkable expirience.

A beautiful monument which houses two museums: the Beaux-Arts and the Natural History Museum. The latter was small (free) but packed full of information on life and the earth. Bakery
Le Four des Navettes is a historic bakery in Marseille, operating since 1781 near Le Vieux Port. It specializes in traditional Provencal pastries, including the city's famous boat-shaped biscuits called navettes, scented with orange-flower water. These delicious treats come in a charmingly retro tin and are perfect for enjoying with tea or coffee. The Archbishop of Marseille even blesses the oven and biscuits on Candlemas morning due to their exceptional quality.
I think it’s one of the most interesting place in the city. It’s the most ancient bakery with a true history of their products - navettes. Indeed it’s not cheap but the quality, taste and ambiance are well worth to try it out. I do recommend you to taste it and read about this place in advance.
Kirill M — Google review
It’s an acquired taste - lots of unfair subjective reviews which I think do not do justice to the long history of navettes. The polite staff gave me a small piece to try before I buy, I am not a fan of it but I still bought a pack of six for €6 because I think they will go better with coffee or tea. Everyone has the option to try and not buy, so there is no need to give negative reviews if you do not like the taste.

The chef, Noemie Lebocey, trained in Normandy and has traveled to Chile and Asia, bringing a diverse influence to the menu. The restaurant is known for its sustainable practices and commitment to sourcing from local urban farms. The intimate setting offers a relaxed atmosphere with an outdoor terrace and a great wine selection.
Excellent food, interesting combinations, quality produce and well made. Great wines suggested by waiter. Nice room and great atmosphere. All staff friendly and attentive. Looking forward to coming back to try the rest of the menu. Only had 4 dishes, the cheese and a dessert.

Always the highlight of our Marseille trip! We love coming here and exploring the new seasonal dishes that are being created with lots of love and thought. It was our second time and again it did not disappoint! Everything is to share which means you can try almost everything! Best to book a table in advance

Great Atmosphere, Food Needs Finesse This charming local spot has a warm, authentic vibe — the kind of place where people drop by for a glass of wine and end up staying longer. Service is fast and friendly, and the food arrives quickly, which adds to the relaxed flow. Unfortunately, the dishes didn’t quite meet our expectations. The tamara and aubergine caviar felt a bit flat — both dishes were heavy, but lacked contrast. Some acidity or crunch would have lifted them and brought better balance. The bao stole the show with a fantastic kimchi, though again, it lacked a fresh counterpoint to round it out. All in all, a lovely place with great energy, but the food could use a bit more care and balance to truly shine.

What an amazing restaurant ! Visited for lunch on a Friday. The quality of the food is top notch and the prices are very affordable

Waitress was very unwelcoming. Barman was very nice. Never got to try the food or drink because the waitress sent me away LOL

Wonderful food, attentive service. A nice outdoor area to sit at, probably a good idea to make reservations.

I stop to take a photo of a charmingly « Pagnol » type corner restaurant in one of Marseille’s artist quarters. Curiosity pushed me past it’s door into it’s welcoming interior. Covid 19 prevented me from being able to sit down at a table and enjoying the environment, but why not try taking something home to eat, I thought. I ordered the two diserts that were on the blackboard, and enjoyed watched them being made for me. I was impressed by the thoughtfulness to detail in the presentation. I was extra happy that my food was put into a 100% compostable container. When I finally tasted my purchases I had to write a 5 star review for « Les Eaux de Mars ». The deserts were delicious with delightful taste and texture surprises. I can’t wait to return!

La Poule Noire is a chic and compact cafe located near the Vieux-Port in Marseille. The restaurant offers a casual and artful space where diners can enjoy seasonal, contemporary dishes and a selection of wines. Chef Damien Delgado and his partner Fanny Sauvage present professionally crafted, locally sourced recipes with an emphasis on fresh ingredients. The bistro also boasts an intimate interior terrace for warm days.
An amazing experience! We ordered a wine pairing menu. The food is delicious and the wines even more so! We visited on our last night in Marseille and I am so glad we left the best for last! Excellent service and authentic tastes, such a cozy atmosphere in the restaurant and great music that matches perfectly. This one must be the best place to eat when in Marseille, especially for couples. Thank you for a beautiful dinner!

A small restaurant on a quiet street. I have ordered a set menu, food was well presented. Very happy with the starter and the dessert, they were delicious. The main, beef brisket, was not tender enough unfortunately, it was a little disappointing. It was overall a lovely meal.

The presentation is very nice and the service is super good. However I still hope the food can be better. The shrimp we ordered was not that fresh and octopus was too hard.

A true masterpiece! Each serving was a different experience on its own! Flavours are extremely well balanced and designed to amaze your senses! Prices are great for a restaurant in such a category. Waiters are well informed even about minimal details (e.g. the country of origin of vanilla). We even enjoyed a very nice conversation with the lead chef. We went during a heat wave and unfortunately the restaurant was extremely hot

If you find this review to be helpful, please leave a Like. Thanks ... The exterior of the restaurant is pretty nondescript & it's located in a somewhat residential area. But don't let that fool you and be sure to seek it out. You won't be disappointed. Out of the three dinners we experienced in Marseille, this was by far the best in terms of the tastiness of the food, the quality of the food & the value for money. There were two levels for dining indoors - the tables/chairs were small & intimate. We had to climb narrow stairs to get to the second level, which was where we were seated, with somewhat low ceilings. It was a bit hot on this level. Weather permitting, I would recommend booking a table on the outside terrace off the second level. It was very charming & air circulation seemed better - just watch out for mosquitoes. Now to the food. Somewhat surprising, the place didn't serve any chicken :-) Apparently, they had pivoted from chicken to concentrate on seafood centric dishes. There were four of us in the party & we decided to order a variety of dishes to share. All the creations were delicious. Some of the outstanding dishes were the prawns, fish & the "fried egg" ... the only semi-miss for us was the "dessert egg" which didn't come together as we expected. We rounded off everything with delicious cocktails & espresso. I'd definitely come back to see what new dishes they have to offer. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal! We highly recommend tartare (we shared it as an additional main for the two of us, does require a large appetite! The steak and lamb was really nice. Particularly enjoyed the desserts! The special ‘egg’ is a great surprise. We had a pleasant chat with the owner lady as well as our server. Super friendly, makes the whole experience great.

A place that will exceed your expectations. This is the reason we would come back to Marseille. Had a fantastic dinner and wine paring. The service was top notch. The food here was better than the three star Michelin restaurant the previous night.
Nicholas D — Google review
Food was amazing. I would pair my own choice of Wines next time instead of tidying the food and win pairing menu. It was a very cool place to be. We enjoyed it
