Plage des Catalans is a bustling beach located near the city center, offering a range of activities for visitors. The clear waters and sandy shores make it an ideal spot for swimming and sunbathing, while sand volleyball courts provide entertainment for sports enthusiasts. This beach is known for its vibrant atmosphere, with kiosks lining the sand offering refreshments and sun loungers available for rent. Plage des Catalans also hosts beach volleyball tournaments and international competitions, attracting both participants and spectators.
Great beach only 15 mins walk from the heart of Marseille! The water is clean and it’s a lovely beach with facilites
Emma W — Google review
The beach was totally full but nice sad. Nice light. Felt safe. Place to lock your phone. Showers and toilets. Life guards. Warm sea. Slight breeze. Kids having fun. Beach volleyball in the background. Wonderful few hours.
Stephen B — Google review
A small, beautifully situated sandy city beach.
Piotr T — Google review
Beautiful sand beach, probably the only one with sand. During the day there are a lot of people and it’s difficult to find a spot - it’s the only problem with this place, but I am not surprise. There is a toilet, changing room and showers. We felt really safe but notice some „watchers” as well. Have to admit that safeguard were patrolling not only the sea but also the beach to solve any potential incidents.
Paweł B — Google review
A lot of people, but there was place to lay. I liked free WC and possibility to shower or wash legs
Slávka P — Google review
Small sand beach about 15 minutes walk from the city center-port. We were here at the end of March, the weather was sunny and very pleasant. You can sit on benches and have a beautiful view of the islands and boats. There is a possibility to play volleyball or basketball on prepared courts. In the summer I would expect this place to be overcrowded..
Veronika W — Google review
This is a small beach located in the main part of the city. The beech is clean. It has shower and changing rooms. As the beach is sandy, you can sit and relax here. Swimming is also allowed. It becomes a bit crowded in the evening. Overall, a very good beach.

Nice beach, clear water but got stung by jelly fish. Be careful!

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Plage de la Pointe Rouge is a charming oceanfront destination in Marseille, offering a range of activities and amenities. The beach features jet ski rentals, lifeguards for safety, and casual eateries serving pizzas, grills, and salads in a simple yet idyllic setting. Visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and even surfing on windy days. The gentle slope into the sea makes it ideal for various water activities.
Right next to Prado and close to Point Rouge Port, there’s a lovely Sandy Beach. It’s a great spot to relax with friends or family. You can swim, and the sunset view is absolutely stunning. There are also a few restaurants on the beach where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner.
Pavan W — Google review
Very pretty beach, it’s about 20mins by car outside of the city center and away from the tourist beaches. You’ll find more local people at this beach. There are a couple of restaurants on the beach with plenty of shade. I highly recommend a delicious cocktail on the beach
Emily — Google review
Nice clean beach . Is quite busy but still good to visit. You just have to be a bit earlier to get good spot
Bartosz M — Google review
The beach was very busy, but this was probably because it was still the summer holidays. I found the beach very dirty with cigarette buds everywhere. It’s sad to see people not caring about the state of the beach… maybe this was because it’s the end of the holiday period so they haven’t been able to clean it properly. I’m also quite picky when it comes to beaches and I’ve been lucky enough to visit some extraordinary ones.
Elias H — Google review
dirty as the sand is not cleaned with machines.... some one is doing manually this job
Ali B — Google review
Lovely beach, pleasant and clean. The location is nice and modern looking but still the classic ‘South of France’ look. When I visited it was pretty windy so I do recommend having some sort of beach chair to lay on instead of being on the ground where the sand could be blown onto you.
Harriet S — Google review
The sand colour is a bit dark and I'm a little reticent to bring my children there for that reason. But it's close to home. Avoid going there after heavy rain.
Thomas J — Google review
The sand is great! The sand is definitely soft. The depth of water is comparable to body height that I could enjoy the sun and water without any fear of safety.

Beach
Plages du Prado is a popular choice among Marseille's beaches, offering a more tranquil atmosphere compared to some others. This collection of artificial beaches includes Plage du David and Plage de la Vielle Chapelle, making it the largest sandy expanse in the city. Visitors can enjoy swimming and windsurfing while being close to restaurants and parks. The area also provides amenities such as volleyball courts and rock climbing walls, although these may not always be free of charge.
Lovely beach, the water was so clear and the weather was really nice. We spent all day here sun bathing in the really hot weather and occasionally kept going down into the water for a swim to cool off. However had to be really careful of the jelly fish that were floating about!
Catlis2102 — Google review
Beautiful beach, azure blue water, lovely view. Lifeguards available as well.
Robert S — Google review
It does get windy there, and it's a good location for kite surfing and other wind propelled activities. Surfing is disappointing as the swell is practically always inexistant. There are many bars and restaurants you may want to explore throughout the day and evening.
Thomas J — Google review
Definitely not the nicest beach in the area, it was pretty dirty and very rocky getting into the sea. Would recommend looking elsewhere if you have that option.
Lillie M — Google review
Great plave some 25min by bus 83 from Marseille port. Very clean water, ckean beach no cigarettes, sandy but clear waters.
Tomas O — Google review
Visited this beach during mid November. We could go with our dogs and spent a lovely day. The water is shallow so dogs can swim without problems. During summer/high season, this beach is not dog friendly so keep this in mind. Cons: the beach and the sea were very dirty (plastic everywhere) and people left there dirt there as well after having lunch or spending some time with their kids (plastic, tissues, diapers). Really great location , one of the best areas in Marseille. Great to visit , with a nice view of the Calanque mountain range in the background. To bad there is no sand on the beach, it's more like a gravel type, not very pleasant to walk bare foot.

Beach
Nestled between towering cliffs and accessible only by foot or boat, Calanque d'En-vau is a remote beach with stunning turquoise waters. The journey to reach this hidden gem involves a challenging 7-hour hike and an 8,000-meter uphill climb, offering breathtaking views of Port-Pin and Port-Miou along the way. Visitors can also explore nearby calanques such as Calanque de Port-Pin before making their way to Cassis.
Amazing spot. Tricky 5km hike from Cassis with steep ground and loose stones... but well worth the effort for the heavenly views and stunning bay with chilly azure blue waters and cliffs either side. Very popular in the summer months... for a good reason. Simply stunning
Philip J — Google review
We walked about2hrs from the parking to get there and 1h40min to get back. The road is easy if you follow the right path but be sure to take a had, sunscreen and plenty of water as there is almost no shade during the walk there
Aleksandra C — Google review
One of the most amazing and incredible landscape during the trip. Highly recommend to be well prepared for sharp up and down hiking.
Nothingnew — Google review
Picturesque cove made even more sweet by the decently long hike from Cassis, and by swimming out to the buoys in the cove. The view back towards the beach is stunning! Bring sturdy shoes for the hike, water shoes for the beach (or very tough feet), and a lunch (Wednesdays and Fridays are market days in Cassis!), book, good company. Great full afternoon activity to experience the park with like minded folks from around the world. The water in September was 70 degrees F, clear, very refreshing with the air temp at 80 ish degrees F.
Alex B — Google review
Very pretty view when hiking and turquoise, transparent water. We downloaded the Mes Calanques app, which guided us towards the Calanque d’En Vau via Port Pin - there are also marks on the rocks. We followed the panoramic path to go, and the shorter path (green) to retour. The hike was heavy especially the steep part descending to the water, but if you are physically active it’s super manageable. The rest of the path is rocky - sometimes slippery, but doable. The hike is magnificent, totally worth it!!
Francesca P — Google review
Nice beach but OMG the walk from cassis is brutal. Be prepared for some serious climbing up and down and make sure you've got plenty of water.
Dave C — Google review
Parking in Cassis is near to impossible. You have to be lucky to find place in the streets. The hike is very easy to the first beach but gets difficult later. I really believe that if you don't have proper shoes you should not go. The terrain is quite slippery even in sneakers. Important: bring water shoes as well, it will be much easier to walk on the beach. I also think you should leave those trekking poles in your car, there are parts of the hike where you need to have free hands. We got stuck in a "traffic jam" because of group of hikers with these poles. Even in september there is soooo many people. If you come after 3pm, there will be no sun but also much less people.
Diana L — Google review
Beautiful swimming spot once you get there. Around a 17km hike in total, back and forth from the Cassis train station. Ish 4km one way from the edge of the town where the route turns into a hiking trail. The hike is quite tough during the summer heat. Steep and lots of small rocks that move from under your feet. Definitely requires proper shoes. Bring at least 2L of water per person. You’ll sweat it out in a heart beat. We went in the middle of June, and the place was packed. I’d imagine during July it would be jam-packed.

Calanque de Port Pin is a stunning natural area featuring rocky formations, pine trees, and sandy beaches. It offers picturesque hiking trails and beautiful shingle beaches. The surrounding area boasts luxurious accommodations with breathtaking views of the Old Port from terraces. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as Ile Verte, Calanque du Mugel, and Plage L'Arene.
GORGEOUS! Absolutely worth the hike there. -highly recommend the panoramic way even though it’s 30 minutes longer - the views are stunning! The way to the beach is a big difficult, but really doable.
Elena M — Google review
It's a bit of a hike to get here (wear a good pair of shoes) and make sure you bring plenty of water, especially on a hot day. But the views along the walk are stunning and the beach is well worth the effort. It's a popular beach, but if the main beach is too busy you can scramble along the rocks to find your own quieter spot. Swimming is lovely and you can dry off in the sun after. The circular walk around to the next Calanques is definitely recommended for the views, but there is a bit of clambering involved.
Geoff S — Google review
Beautiful spot for a swim. The water is clear and it wasn’t too crowded when we visited on a Tuesday at the end of June. There are a few shaded areas to escape the sun. The hike from Cassis center took about 50 minutes. It’s not too difficult and definitely worth it!!
Isa — Google review
This may depend on season entirely. We went on a Tuesday august, and had a terrible time despite the beautiful scenery. This was because 1) we had the most nightmarish parking, in which we looked for an hour in the parking lots before giving up, and being lucky enough to find street parking. People were asking those getting off the shuttle for their parking spot, and claiming them. 2) it was ridiculously crowded on the hike and in the calanque itself. The town was similarly horribly crowded at the port, but quieter outside. This said, it was a beautiful place, and fantastic to swim in. Probably best in the off season.
Jasper H — Google review
I cannot move on from the breathtaking beauty of the view here. It's definitely worth the walk to this beach. The sea is beautiful and clear, swimming and watching the fishes is so peaceful and enjoyable.

Beach
Prado Beach is a popular destination in Marseille, France, offering wide sandy beaches along the Corniche Kennedy. Visitors can explore Anse de la Fausse Monnaie for a more secluded beach experience with cliff diving opportunities. The Prado beaches stretch along the Mediterranean coast and were created in the 1970s with artificial pebbles. This area boasts several smaller beaches collectively known as Prado and features a large parking lot for easy access.
Small in size but very clean beach. Several life guards are always on duty giving a sense of security.
Sachintha W — Google review
Amazing beach. No smoking allowed was a nice touch as it allowed us to chill with no smoke in our faces. Beautiful water if maybe a bit cold (nothing to do about that!)
John H — Google review
A location with multiple beach types - sand, rocks, or a mix. Amenities nearby, we rented an umbrella and used the public shower. Kids can play on the edge, otherwise the water is deep and calm enough for a swim.
Daniel Ž — Google review
Visited for the sailing events at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The site was a nice location, and the inclusion of a beach for viewers and sunloungers was a really nice touch. The capacity at the on site shop was questionable however, and the water taps only dispensed brutally warm water which didn't help in almost 40 degree heat. The sailing experience did feature screens to watch the action, but I'd argue the main attraction was to watch the boats up close on their way out of the marina, there wasn't much reason to stay after that. I chose to walk down the coast by a mile and view from a nicer beach.
Matt F — Google review
Expansive views of water with easy access.
Ali A — Google review
It is brilliant idea to drop by here. There are two types of beach (with send or with pebbles) Sunshine is great and water is cool. Most of people are relaxed on the beach with sunbathing. If you have enough time, strongly recommend you to rest here for a while.
Jay L — Google review
Poorly organised olympic games. Very few stewards lack of information. Food choices very limited. Limited shade. No screens where they would be helpful. No big bags allowed - no changing rooms. All these things are free in the club 24 area which is 100 times better. Good views, but you can see all the races from public areas. I won't be going to the next Paris games.
Douglas S — Google review
Beautiful beach, its stretch so huge. And you get a different view at every corner. Can't recommend it enough.

Calanque de Sormiou is a breathtaking gem nestled within the stunning Calanques National Park, renowned for its vibrant turquoise waters and dramatic landscapes. As the largest and most accessible cove in the park, it offers visitors an unforgettable day trip experience. The journey to this picturesque spot involves navigating through the charming Baumettes district and embarking on a scenic 45-minute hike down winding paths that lead to its beautiful pebble beach framed by striking white limestone cliffs.
An intermediate trek leading to a beautiful destination. The effort is totally worth the dive into the water.. Can get very crowded at peak season. A must visit from Marseille !
Girish S — Google review
We went in mid-October and the beach had certainly been recently impacted by a storm. There was a yacht which had run aground very dramatically, and more importantly the beach was covered in sticks, leaves, and other debris blown in by the storm and did not leave much sand uncovered to sit on. Nonetheless the location is spectacular and the water was gorgeous and clear for a swim. We paid €6 to drive down and park. Apparently it is wise to call ahead to the restaurant to reserve a space in peak tourist season.
Keelan C — Google review
Nice view, but the road right to the beach closes during the day during peak season for cars so you have to hike down about 45 minutes each way. We had to wait till 7pm to drive down, the road is quite treacherous, steep with cliffs and single lane in most parts. If you do drive down just pay attention to what cars are coming up ahead and prepare to stop early to give way
Ian K — Google review
Outstanding beach with beautiful warm turquoise waters. You need to walk 45 mins over a hill each way to get there but it’s worth it. Apparently the restaurant is amazing but we didn’t book ahead which is necessary.
A L — Google review
I went by foot after taking the bus 22. It was a nice 25 min walk, even under a blazing sun. Since the path has a few trees, it is not that hot. It is not so easy to find the starting point, but once you are there, it’s easy to follow. Great views and nature along the path. The beach itself, very calm. Light waves, the soil is sand, no rocks, great temperature.
Hugo I — Google review
Amazing place, in summer it’s super nice, the water it’s crystal clear. It’s worth of it, nothing the envy to Thailand’s beaches. The bad thing is to arrive there, by walk it’s hard, and you can’t get by car unless you have a reservation in the restaurant.
Kam R — Google review
It is the most beautiful calanque that you can find in the national park. You need, however, to be cautious that, especially, in summer calanques are closed for visits due to fire risks (including windy days). It is better to start the hike at 7 am so you will be less tired and protected from the sun by a shade of calanques. The reward is wonderful - amazing sea view and sandy beach.
ISole — Google review
Difficult to get there, but it's worth it! We went in a cab until the beginning of the mountain and walked for around 40 minutes. Make sure to wear a hat, and comfortable shoes and to bring water. It gets crowded after 1PM so it's better to arrive around 9-11 AM

Calanque de Morgiou, a picturesque inlet with a rich history as a fishing port, offers various activities such as rock climbing, hiking, and swimming. Accessible by foot or car via a vertiginous pass, it's important to check access conditions beforehand due to strict regulations. The small pebble beach provides easy access to the clear waters of the calanque, although finding space can be challenging due to its popularity.
We took a hike about 2km each way. Took our large dog with us, she did walked it all, but some parts are covered with large slippery stones. The signage could be more clear, as so many people were a bit lost there, but once you figure it out, then it all makes sense! Take definitely water with you!! When you get to the village, there is one restaurant and they sell water and drinks.
Quayside P — Google review
Great spot to swim, the hike down was not super long, however make sure you have shoes with a grip as the rocks climbing down are very smooth and slippery! There was a part near the beach with a chain/rope to help climb down the steep spot. Water is very salty but not cold. Lovely dock area at the beach,
Nicole — Google review
One of the most popular hikes in the calanques links two of the biggest - Sormiou and Morgiou - with the climb over the Crete de Morgiou. Here you can take a pause, enjoy the sun, have a swim or have a lunch or a coffee in the only restaurant - le Bar Nautic. Views are just breathtaking.
Gleb — Google review
The view it’s impressive, the hike was difficult but worth it. Unfortunately we were not prepared with water shoes , so was uncomfortable because of the stones on the beach and in the water . The water was freezing but amazingly clear and clean.
Adina M — Google review
Very beautiful!! Can be a long hike depending on your entrance. Going from Les Baumettes is a nicer hike but longer. There is also a part that is quite steep. Luminy entrance is shorter distance but you don’t see as much on the hike. No reservation needed. Overall, no matter your hiking route it is worth the effort. Water is crystal clear and can be a bit cold but it is just what you want after a sweaty hike.
Bilin C — Google review
Amazing views! Trekking shoes are strongly recommended because the path is full of slippery stones and quite steep. But the scenery is definitely worth it. The beach is pretty small and there were many jellyfish in the water today so we didn’t try bathing there.
Bararich8 — Google review
The small beaches here are great. One of them is with small pebble-stones, the other beach is just stone with pebble entrance to the sea. You have to come early tho, if you want to swim alone. Because of it is small, it gets full quickly. You have to park 3,5 km (car) away from this calanque, only the locals can get through the gates. So you have to walk on partly-walkingroutes that can take up to 30 min (maybe 2,8 km). You have hiking routes that can take you to great spots to take pictures. Tips: Go early Take (light) shoes you can swim with Big bottle of water Shoes for hiking (if you want to hike) Goggles (you can see small fishes swimming around your legs, we saw even an octopus) A bientot !
Bünyamin D — Google review
A very nice Calanque. Beautiful. If you come with your own sailing boat, you are likely to anchor at 15 m dept. In summer there will be many boats at anchor and it can feel crowded. Also during the day there is a continued stream of day tripper boats, which is very annoying. Thus I only give 4 stars.

This is a small beautiful calanque with a couple of nice beaches. It's very easy to get here from Marseille, 30-40 minutes walk from Luminy. Due to this fact it suffers from overtourisme, so the Marseille authorities introduced daily quotas in high season - 500 visitors per day. Luckily when I visited this calanque, there were not many people because of the mistral. So I could enjoy it in peace and quiet.

One of the most beautiful Calanques I've ever seen. The view is truely one of the best ! It makes you feel like you're swimming in paradise, on a tropical island !! 🤩🤩🤩

Puneet B — Google review
As a longtime traveler, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. The landscape and water were amazing, but it took a lot of effort to get there, and the area was crowded. Overall, I would recommend it, but be prepared to walk for an hour through uneven and inconvenient paths. P.S. Make sure to wear proper shoes!
Deniz S — Google review
Made a reservation 3 days before. The path is quite easy from the col, just follow the winding road to above the beach. Only the trail from the bottom of the road to the beach is steep. Amazing swimming and jumping from the island!

AWESOME, incredible place to visit, the ambient, the vibes that gives to you. Just hits different. I was in the Calanque de Sugiton, maybe not too much indications, and difficulty medium. Also a little bit dirty, we need to preserve this sites more.
Pere G — Google review
It takes a while to reach on foot, but it’s absolutely worth it. An untouched and unique cove with crystal-clear water and stunning scenery. The place is quite small, so it’s better to go during quieter times. Perfect spot for those looking to connect with nature and enjoy some peace.
Eda Y — Google review
Great views walking done to the sea, great view and atmosphere there. A paradise. The hike is easy and if not used to it you can always take the long way and ignore shortcuts on the road marked with three red points. I started my trip from Kedge BS bus station, where you can arrive with bus 24, 21JET, B1. The trip with bus is not very pleasant and if you can please take 21JET because it has 3 stops compared to the other 2 that have like 20 stops. Take lots of water, some food, sunscreen and maybe a bag for waste as in the National Park there are no bins.

Public beach
Plage le Bain des Dames is a charming and cozy spot with a wonderful view of the sea, making it perfect for water activities like stand up paddle boarding. However, it's important to arrive early in the summer as it tends to get crowded quickly. The beach is relatively calm and safe, suitable for families and friends to gather. It offers a great site for viewing the ocean, small islands, fishing boats, and ships.
I couldn’t really take pictures of the beach properly as there were a few top less women. It’s a small pebble beach, about 20 minutes away from the main tourist beaches near the city center of Marseille. Hidden gem, you’ll find locals come to this beach. There is a toilet.

Nice beach! ! It will be kinda wavy when it’s windy. Also there are so many stones in the ocean which is not nice to get in. Suggestion: bring some water and snacks.

A very nice and cute little cozy spot with a very wonderful view of the sea. A perfect spot not only for people who workout but also for families and friends to gather. It’s pretty calm and safe and the beach is also pretty nice.

A little beach. The sea is ok, nothing special. It has toilets and a shower but it was really crowded.
Jim N — Google review
When we visited today, half the beach was gone due to high tide plus swell. The mistral can also be very strong. It's usually a good place to do your water activities, particularly stand up paddle board as there is a parking just above it . However, do come early in summer as it gets packed fairly quickly . Get there before 9 AM to secure your spot.

Wildlife refuge
Parc national des Calanques, established in 2012, is a stunning natural reserve located in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur region. Encompassing both land and sea areas, it spans over 8,500 hectares of land across Marseille, Cassis, and La Ciotat, along with 43,500 hectares of marine territory. This park boasts remarkable biodiversity with numerous protected terrestrial and marine species.
I can highly recommend climbing the Massif Marseilleveyre if you're into hiking. Steep climb, but astounding views of virtually the entirety of Marseille and surrounding Calanque. The unique limestone landscape was really cool, great for photography

No fire, no smoking and no litter please ! Gemstone water at the foot of dizzy white cliffs. A good physical condition is better since you may need at minimum about 1h of walking one way from the parking to the beach. Check on the internet if the path is open, it closes on dry and windy times to limit wildfire risks and you need a reservation (free) during summer. You can also choose to dive there, which is a great way to see the Mediterranean fishes near Riou, where fishing is prohibited.
Paul A — Google review
Stunning place, rugged mountain cliffs perched above the mediteranean. Hiked the red-white trail from les Baumettes to Cassis, aprox 25km. Tough terrain, sometimes became quite exposed, not your average walk in the park, attention to the path and markings is key. Losing or missing a sign can lead you to the middle of nowhere. Bring plenty of water.

Visiting the Calanques National Park was an absolutely sublime experience. The turquoise waters are breathtaking, and the way the sea crashes against the mountains creates a powerful, almost overwhelming sensation. I had the chance to discover it on a yacht, which made the experience even more unique and luxurious, allowing me to fully enjoy the hidden coves and majestic cliffs. The contrast between the crystal-clear sea, the bright limestone rocks, and the calm Mediterranean atmosphere is unforgettable. A true natural wonder that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Marseille.

Gorgeous little corner! One of the bars makes proper espresso coffee too. Clean and lovely to visit. To one side is access to the sea where I would start my swim back to plage des Catalans. Kid friendly around that part and great for adults to venture out.

Charming harbor in the downtown This place deserves a visit. Quite close to the old port (shorter than 30’ walking), you’ll find a charming harbor seemingly entering deep in the downtown. You can walk along the wharfs enjoy a glass or a nice dinner. If you go on 150 meters on the right side you’ll reach the seafront with a nice view on the bay, especially at sunset. Do not try to get very close by car, it’s almost impossible to park.

Visiting Vallons des Aufons, the charming fishing village in Marseille, was an absolutely fantastic experience. Nestled along the picturesque coast, this little place radiates an authentic and welcoming atmosphere that left a lasting impression. It is located along the Kennedy Corniche, the splendid promenade named after the American president, which rises just outside the Old Port and the center of Marseille. it is possible to admire the small pastel-colored fishermen's houses, the lined up boats, all colored and the water with a thousand shades as a frame. Absolutely AMAZING! Definitely a MUST if you are visiting Marseille. Great views, amazing beaches, landscapes and walking trails. The color of the water is just unbelievable. You need at least a full day to enjoy the islands properly. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes, bring a swimsuit, some snacks and plenty of water. I recommend the guided tour in the Chateaux D’If, and a visit to the old Caroline Hospital. There are also some bars and restaurants by the port in the main island, where you can restore after a long day of walking/sunbathing. If you can, get the ferry back to Marseille at sunset. Lovely place! From Marseille it was a 40min bus ride to Cassis (3.50€) then a short walk to the beach. Not sandy but the pebbles are very small so not hard to walk on it and comfortable to lay down. The water was perfect, very clear! Beach was packed at 8-9am, lots of tourists but I saw a least 7 police person walking around the city and beach. It felt safe enough to go in for a swim while leaving my stuff behind as a solo traveler. No shower to wash off after going for a swim, only a tap to wash your feet/legs. There is a small shop to grab drinks and popsicle but quite expensive. But people were nice and spoke English. There’s is also a small area with sunbeds for hire

Restaurant La Baie des Singes is a stunning beachside fish restaurant located in the deep south of Marseille. It offers breathtaking views of dramatic rock formations and a private beach on Ile Marie, where visitors can relax on bright orange loungers while admiring the twinkling waters. The restaurant is known for serving the local catch of the day, providing an opportunity to savor fresh fish from the basket. Additionally, it is recommended to make a reservation due to its popularity.
Spectacular location and enjoyable dinner. Make a reservation in advance and if you want a nice table, perhaps come a bit earlier and avoid the peak season. It was a beautiful hike and despite some reviews, I was surprised to find that the food was great. We had individual dishes at around 30€ each, drinks were regularly priced as well. The prices are quite steep but nothing unreasonable given the prices at restaurants around the area and this restaurant’s singular location. The staff were nothing but kind and the views were stunning. Menus are in French and reservations are made over the phone so it definitely helps to speak French.

Restaurant is located at the top of a mountain with a beautiful view of the calanques. Please note, it requires about a 15 minutes walk to the top with stairs, so it's not really accessible - no strollers should be taken. We were travelling with 3 kids (8, 3 and 2 years old) so it was a hurdle, but overall, really worth it. Food was great as well, and wine recommendation was top!
Julie N — Google review
Beautiful setting, well worth a visit. Don't go with high expectations for food or service. Simple menu with some crazy prices and mid to good food. Waiters seemed stretched and not massively friendly. Was bizarrely told certain ice creams were not available to adults, and had to pay in cash for a drink and an ice cream. That said, it's a stunning and fairly private beach which is great if you don't fancy Tuba Club or it's booked up. The walk from where the cabs drop off is also very beautiful and picturesque through the rocks. Also, you have to book a table at the restaurant to get a bed seemingly- they come hand in hand and the restaurant expects you to eat there before you sunbathe.
J J — Google review
Absolutely brilliant, food was epic, staff were amazing, sensational view. I just wish that I could tip with credit card as I rarely carry cash. No complaints, would have just loved to reward Micah for his hard work, great character and sensational service 10/10 would go again, but I would bring cash!

Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend I really cannot recommend this restaurant. We made a reservation well in advance and were genuinely excited to go. Unfortunately, the experience fell flat from the start. The parking situation was a complete nightmare, even on a Sunday. We ended up parking 30 minutes away on foot—not entirely the restaurant's fault, but still frustrating. Despite that, we arrived on time for our reservation, only to find a long queue of other people with the same time slot. We had to wait another 40 minutes just to be seated. Once we got to our table, it still hadn’t been cleared—the table next to us was cluttered with dirty plates and glasses, making it clear that the place was understaffed and overwhelmed. Service was painfully slow. It took forever just to get a menu and drinks, and by the time we finally ordered, it was two full hours after our reserved time. The location itself is beautiful, but the atmosphere leans more toward a casual bistro than a proper restaurant. Given the high prices, the whole experience felt like poor value. The food was just okay—nothing memorable or worth the hassle. All in all, it was a very underwhelming visit. Next time, we’ll just bring a picnic and enjoy the area without the stress.
Mailin B — Google review
The experience at Baiae des Singes was magical….:: the view of the bay stunning; the food exceptional and service both friendly and professional- a wonderful lunch
Steff R — Google review
The setting is beautiful, but the overall dining experience did not meet our expectations. Prices, especially for fish charged per 100 grams, are extremely high for the quality offered. The risotto with gambas was quite disappointing, though the octopus carpaccio was excellent. Overall, an overrated and overpriced experience despite the lovely location.
Shady H — Google review
We were a little wary because of some of the reviews but we had an excellent lunch. Really friendly staff, great food, and we thought it was priced well. Beautiful location, fresh fish prepared simply - can’t ask for more. Only thing to note is it’s about a 15 minute walk from the area you can park in through some hills which may be tough for older people. You need to reserve as well.

Great beach, not many people. You can observe fishes under the water. There are toilets, showers and changing room. Better option, if you have time, than plages in Marseille itself - less people. You need to use ship to go there, but the island and beaches worth it

Some trash on the shore but not too bad, probably came from the people from the morning. Water was amazingg! Came June 16 and the weather was hot windy and the water was cold and refreshing. Take a ferry from Marseilles port to port frioul and walk to the beach.

Worth waiting for the trackless train for €5. Trek is long and difficult in the heat with no shade. There are two small beaches, one (tiny) pebbly and one sandy. Beautiful and worth it. There are public toilets and a kiosk.
Janet B — Google review
Best beach on the island. It gets very crowded in summer, I recommend to get a spot on the rocks rather than on the beach, that is not very sandy. You can reach it by walk from the port in 10 mins. Bar with toilette available.
Francesca B — Google review
It so pretty! The water is clear and i like the size of the beach. You can either walk from port to the beach or take the cute train which cost us 5 euro each for adults and 3 euro if you are a child. For us we took the train then we walk going back.
Kim — Google review
A truly beautiful beach. It may take about 15-25min to get there from the port but it is totally worth it. The water is incredibly clear and blue. Perfect for snorkeling! There are some rocky areas, which are still somewhat comfortable enough to sit down on or some sand right by the water. Unfortunately, there is barely any shade, so bring some hats to shield yourself from the sun. The maintenance stops in early September though, so there won’t be any options to shower or use a restroom at the beach.

Beach
Plage de l'Huveaune is a charming beach in Marseille, known for its clear waters and sandy shores. It offers a change of scenery and a chance to enjoy swimming and various water sports. The beach is named after the Huveaune river that borders it, and it's also referred to as Epluchures Beach by locals. Families with young children will appreciate the shallow waters and seasonal lifeguards on duty.
Amazing place with a spectacular view. If you are with family, it's a good place to swim. Though the water is not very clean.
SUBHADEEP C — Google review
It's a nice beach, there is a section on the right side that is less crowded and offers a more relaxing swim, do keep in mind that you'll need to go over some rocks to access the beach in these section. It's worth the hassle in my opinion.

Don’t come here, Sand is not nice. The water is really dirty, toilet paper and brown dirt in it! No where to buy or rent umbrellas or toilets, showers or changing rooms.

One of the few sandy beaches in Marseille (most are pebbles). Nice view over the sea, and of the islands,. especially at sunset. But not the cleanest beach, in part as next to Huveaune stream; and also some disrespectful tourists/residents who leave their rubbish on the beach...

Beautiful and quiet beach with sand 2 minute walk down from Prado’s
Susan Y — Google review
Nice beach in convenient location that actually has sand. There were lifeguards on duty and showers, changing rooms, and bathrooms available. Not too crowded on a weekday. Pretty clean, and decent waves for boogie boarding. There was a hawker walking the beach, and another man who looked like they might be looking for unwatched items, so be careful with your stuff and maybe sit down closer to other people.

This review is based on 2 dinners/drinks 2 different days: On our first day on the area, the GF and I decided to go for dinner here. Now, the GF is Irish so she normally eats her dinner when the French have their lunch lol. So we were early. To pass the time we ordered drinks. Mine was nothing special, just a beer while the gf ordered a cocktail. A margarita. She loved it. Dinner time came. I ordered seabas awhile she ordered a burger. We both thought they were good. The service was good. It got better when we asked for some advice on the pudding. It was delicious. We left happy. On the second day, our last in the area, I ordered the Tuna stake medium. It came back well done. A little dry. To a point I had to use every drop of the sauce it came with to give it a little bit of softness. The gf ordered pizza as she thought it would be great as she saw a lot of people order it. It was OK. A little too commercial (if you know what I mean). The dough was heavy and the base not that crisp. She had half and brought half with us. It was nicer cold on the airplane. But the cocktails she got were fantastic. Overall: good but nothing to shout about when it comes to the mains. 3.5 starts. A note I would make for the restaurant:; Maybe have an area outside designated for none smokers. It would be nice to enjoy the view and the weather without inhaling second-hand smoke.

As other people have commented, the owner is extremely stingy. My friend ordered a 2 meat taco and when it arrived the filling was about 5% meat and 95% fries and cheese, even though she had ordered a separate portion of fries. We only tried this place because it was the only fast food place we could find after leaving La Cabane des Amis, and we will NEVER make the mistake of going there again!

The Massif des Calanques is a stunning national park located along the Mediterranean coast, stretching from Marseille to Cassis. Accessible primarily by boat, it offers breathtaking views of rugged cliffs and coastline. The park features deep rocky coves with clear waters nestled among limestone cliffs, providing opportunities for water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding. Visitors can also explore underwater cave inscriptions and enjoy guided boat tours or private rides to fully experience the area's natural beauty.
This national park provides amazing hikes to see crystal clear water and amazing cliff sides. As you stand and gaze through the picturesque landscape you will marvel at scenery typically seen in books or travel brochures. This is a must see if visiting Marseille.

My boyfriend and I did an incredible 17km hiking loop passing through Calanques d’en Vau starting from Cassis (picture attached of our route, listed as a trail running route found on Kamoot). Absolutely stunning hike which is WELL worth the effort! The natural park feels and is completely unspoilt due to no car access etc. A MUST if you are anywhere near this area :)

Nature here is amazing. I had some difficulties to find the right path, without google maps was impossible and not always very clear. However, if you like to walk and/or hike, this place is for you. Cristal water and small beaches, we went end july and not a lot of people. Of course you need to be lucky (like anywhere) that the few people you have are not loud. We took the tellow path. This one is not suitable for kids! But hey, it’s nature!:) A bit sad that in the sea you can se a lot of boats but then the park is closed to the public. Environmentally the impact of boats is way higher then just people walking. However, it was a great experience.

This is easily one of the coolest parks I've been to. It's absolutely beautiful with plenty of well-marked hiking trails. There's also plenty of climbing areas, some of which require far-from-obvious trails that require scrambling or rappelling at times. Rarely, you'll find chains at the extremely scrambly sections.

At the heart of Merseille, it is both terrestrial and marine: it is the only national park in Europe to be periurban and, in the Mediterranean. It is a nice short escape from busy city life. Get a ticket from Old port. They have 2.15 hours and 3.5 hours two different journey schedule. Ticket cost 32 and 38 euros. If you want swimming or stopping more extra.

The best part is ..... there are no dog poos !! There are many unusual trees from different parts of the world that were planted a long time ago. Some have their names on them. As you walk toward the beach, you’ll discover the beach facing bar called same same same beach. The view is extraordinary as you have the drink. Plage de l’Arène is a secluded and wild beach located in Cassis, less crowded than other beaches in the area. Accessible via a small car park and steep steps, this rocky beach is surrounded by pine trees and offers a peaceful atmosphere. It's not the easiest for swimming, so reef shoes are recommended. The beach can be reached through a side street near vineyards, making it more hidden than other nearby beaches.
This beach is a dream come true for nature lovers and anyone seeking tranquility away from the crowds. The crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic cliffs, and lush pine-covered hills create an almost surreal backdrop. Even on a misty day, the view was absolutely magical, with the clouds hugging the mountain tops like a scene from a fantasy movie. Whether you're paddleboarding, relaxing on the rocky shore, or just taking in the views, this place feels peaceful and raw. My favorite beach during winter.

We had such a lovely stay at Tuba Club. The communication with Tessa prior to our arrival was very helpful and our room was ready for early check-in upon our arrival. The sunsets are truly magical and the interior design is beyond beautiful and so inspiring. I appreciated the hospitality of the whole team - many thanks to Franck for the excellent breakfast and special thanks to Manou for the good conversations and for making us feel so welcome! Hope to come back soon 🐚🌊

I can’t say enough about how extraordinary our experience at Tuba was…this place didn’t just set the stage for one of the most special moments of our lives, it elevated it into something unforgettable. I had called ahead from overseas, hoping to plan the perfect proposal to my longtime girlfriend. The team at Tuba could have simply done the basics, but instead, they truly went above and beyond in ways that left us speechless. Every single member of the staff was in on the surprise and dedicated themselves to making us feel like the most important guests they’d ever had. From offering us the best seat in the housewith a stunning view of the sun melting into the Mediterranean, to serving us the freshest fish and exquisite drinks, everything was a 10 out of 10. They turned a beautiful evening into a once-in-a-lifetime memory. It was more than a dinner; it was a celebration of love that we’ll cherish forever. If you find yourself anywhere near Marseille, do yourself a favor and make the trip out to Tuba. It’s absolutely worth it!

We had the seafood plate and clams as our main dishes and ended up taking clams twice because they were so tasty. The chocolade cake and creme brulee we had for dessert were absolutely delicious. The staff was very attentive, friendly and gave perfect recommendations. They also put a little candle in the dessert because we celebrated a birthday which was so sweet of them! The view from the restaurant is very beautiful especially during sunset. If you are looking for a tasty seafood dinner with a good atmosphere that's definitely the place for you!

Magical! It was the highlight of our short stop on Marseilles no doubt. We took a city bus (83, 19, 20) from the the Old Port along the coast and got to see the coastline and popped out right at the cliffside at Tuba Club. The staff was so wonderful, the food was amazing and the ambiance was 🫶. Priced decently for such a unique experience, i was actually surprised.

A wonderful experience. We had a table outside on the upper terrace. The seating overlooking the sea is so soothing that you feel as though you are on holiday. The catch of the day fish was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was top-notch. I will be back and recommend you avoid the high summertime. Visiting in October was delightful

Nothing beats sitting on the rocks having dinner while slowely the sun sets. The food was really good, you need to like fish and seafood. I’d say the prices are high for marseille, but you pay for the location and the freshness of the fish, for us it was worth it!

Staff seems very not interested in taking your order even when it was pretty much empty. Even when paying it was a hassle. The manager/owner was probably the most impolite person I’ve met in a hospitality environment.
Emma A — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was served cold and lacked flavor, and my drink tasted off. I politely asked for a replacement, which they initially agreed to—but then charged me for both drinks anyway. When I questioned the bill, I was met with rude behavior and was told, “This is not America,” in a confrontational tone. I felt disrespected and unwelcome. Poor service, poor food, and an even worse attitude. I would not recommend this place to anyone. For 2 appetizers and 2 drinks it was $80, not worth it at all.

This place was beautiful! Perfect spot to spend the day, delicious food and really lovely and helpful staff. We had a day to fill before a late flight and they accommodated our luggage and we could spend the whole day on the deck chairs.

We stopped for lunch around 1615h. Service was prompt, food came out quick. Menu was limited to tapas--we didn't care, just glad we found a place that was open at that time--and we got the cheese pizza and seafood mix. Pizza was very tasty, crust was thin (which we wanted), and was not heavy. Zero complaints.

I went here with a friend and my dog to have some drinks and it was delightful. The guy that took care of us was super kind and even brought my dog a big bowl of water. The drinks were good, I ordered an Aperol Spritz, and it was ok, I was maybe expecting something with a twist in a place like this, but it was just fine. Besides we ordered a salmon pizza which was ok as well, nothing to highlight. And of course, the magnificent view is a must, I do recommend to go on a week afternoon.
Diana R — Google review
Doesn’t say anywhere that you HAVE TO reserve a sun bed, we came at 11:30 and were told to wait until 13:00. We waited until almost 14:00 to get 2 sun beds (there were at least 10 free ones that no one used) and they ignored us the whole time we were waiting. 10€/2 bottled pineapple juice, 30€/bottle Rosé, 2 vip sun beds (weren’t told they were vip), 2 towels (weren’t told we have to pay extra) costed 117€. Save your time/money and go elsewhere
Trâm N — Google review
The drinks were great, and the views even better. The pizza was pretty poor, and we got charged for an extra bottle of wine, and I’m not sure how accidental that was. Will be back for sure, but just for drinks and will definitely check the bill
Tom R — Google review
We came here based on several recommendations from various websites – but unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. First of all, the area with the sunbeds was absolutely filthy – full of trash and dirt, with no signs of proper cleaning or maintenance. It made the whole atmosphere feel very neglected and uninviting. Secondly, the food at the restaurant was hands down the worst we’ve had during our entire vacation. It was bland, completely lacking any seasoning, and the quality was so poor it actually made us feel unwell afterward. We genuinely cannot understand how this place gets any good reviews. On top of that, the service was terrible. None of the staff spoke a single word of English, even though this seems to be somewhat of a tourist spot. All in all the staff made no effort to help or be welcoming. We would strongly advise anyone reading this to stay away from this place. There are plenty of better options around – don’t waste your time or money here.
Shirin B — Google review
Not great at all. The fried fish was tough and greasy, the salad had no dressing (we waited 20 minutes for oil and asked 3 times) and the bouillabaisse was watery and fishy. And it’s not cheap - average €30 a plate. Nice view I guess but I definitely do not recommend. The toilets and interior were really dirty. Sorry :-(
Francesca N — Google review
Surprised by the (bad) reviews. The daily special was a half lobster for 25 EUR. Views were great and staff was welcoming. I am sure it can get busy here in the midst of summer but our dinner experience was pretty good. Of course don’t expect cheap drinks but still. Glad we tried it out!

Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the sea and passing boats, making it an elegant location for events like weddings.
Very nice and clean place . I can highly recommend for families . Water clean and not very deep so perfect for kids
Bartosz M — Google review
It’s a nice beach. I would rather say it’s the biggest among the range of five adjacent beaches in that vicinity. It’s cute and kinda fun for families and kids. Ample of parking spaces (reasonably paid) and numerous restaurants & bars & ice cream parlours. Thé beach is west facing, hence the sunset is great. However, almost nil vegetation means no shade of trees. Be ready with your sun screen at least spf60 or more. There are changing cabins, toilets (open until 18h45) and beach showers available on the beach. The beach is no smoking zone, so pretty clean. There are many activities for the kids like carousel, giant wheel, etc. There’s a heavy traffic near the round about. Please take care while crossing the road with kids. There’s an Indian restaurant, Bharati, nearby. Enjoy.

Calanque de l'Éverine is a hidden gem that promises an unforgettable escape for those willing to embark on a scenic 40 to 45-minute hike from Niolon.
