Located in Rouen, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen is a stunning 12th-century Gothic cathedral with a rich history. The cathedral offers tours that include the remains of a crypt from a Roman structure on site. As you approach the cathedral from the Gros-Horloge shopping street, you'll notice its asymmetrical facade, reflecting its centuries-long construction and renovation history.
Absolutely beautiful! One of the most breathtaking churches I have been too! Walking inside takes your breath away. The ceilings are giant, the statues amazing and the stained glassed windows just wow! We didn’t have to pay to enter. It is breathtaking. Loved all the statues on the outside with the gargoyles everywhere.

Impressive, monumental cathedral in every sense of the word. With highly detailed, intricate sculptures piling on every inch of the building, it is a stunning, beautiful structure all around. There is a large tent set up in the front currently, perhaps for a reception or important event, it obstruct part of the front view. Walk around and to the back, the design continues to impress. There are cafe shops, restaurants and fast food takeout, pastries, souvenir shops nearby. The uniquely frrncg architecture, medieval looking town is so quaint and pretty to visit. Wear comfortable shoes as the town is walkable and all cobblestoned, it can be hard on the feet after a while. There are several other great attractions earby such as the large clock, Jeanne D'Arc church...all are must-see monuments. I didn't go inside the cathedral (not religious) just love European flares, history and art.
G D — Google review
A breathtaking masterpiece of Gothic architecture — one of the most magnificent cathedrals in all of France ⛪✨. Standing before it feels like stepping back through centuries of history, art, and faith. Every detail, from the intricate façade to the towering spire, tells a story of devotion and craftsmanship. 🏛️ What Makes It Special The cathedral inspired Claude Monet, who painted it over 30 times to capture how light changes its appearance — and when you stand there, you understand why. The play of light and shadow across the façade is mesmerizing, especially during sunrise and sunset. Inside, the soaring ceilings and stained-glass windows create a peaceful, almost spiritual silence. 🕰️ Historical Importance Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, it houses the heart of Richard the Lionheart and remains one of the tallest church structures in France. Despite damage during wars and lightning strikes, it has been beautifully restored — a symbol of Rouen’s resilience. 📝 Practical Info ✅ Free entrance ✅ Light show (in summer months) — a must-see experience that brings Monet’s vision to life 🎨 ✅ Nearby cafés and shops for a perfect cultural stroll afterward A place that leaves you speechless — not just for its beauty, but for its soul. Whether you’re religious or not, standing here fills you with awe and peace. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. The church is beautiful and impressive! You can spend a good time admiring all the details on it. During the evening (10:30pm) they had a light show - it was SO BEAUTIFUL. It had history and beauty in the show and it was captivating. It’s for free, you just need to get around the church and enjoy the free experience. Highly recommend.
DANIELA S — Google review
Beautiful Cathedral. Free to enter. Richard the Lion Heart's tomb is here. Surprised to see someone selling fruit and veg in there. Also reminded off a stranger to remove hats when entering as a sign of respect.
Chris M — Google review
Huge impressive cathedral. Tribute to Jeanne d'Arc. Unfortunately, some parts have been distroyed in WW2, and renovated using concrete, and glass windows, instead of vitrages.
Noam L — Google review
Impressive cathedral with wonderful stained glass windows and a crypte. You don’t need to be history or architecture savvy to appreciate this! The impressive tree next to the cathedral was planted in 1797 to commemorate the French Revolution.
Benoit S — Google review
Glorious cathedral both inside and out and the 10:30 light show was worth the wait. There are so many intricate designs and figures throughout the building that you could spend hours just checking them out.

Located in the picturesque city of Rouen, Le Gros-Horloge is a 14th-century astronomical clock housed within a Renaissance arch. This iconic monument stands as a symbol of the city and has been an integral part of its skyline for centuries. The Gothic belfry tower that crowns the arch holds one of Europe's oldest clock mechanisms, which operated continuously from the 14th century until 1928.
I would 100% recommend visiting and touring the interior. Tickets are available to purchase at the entry of the tour and aren't all that expensive, and with that you get a great (but not too long) audio tour of the different rooms and the history of the clock, which was incredibly neat. You also get an incredible view of the city from the top lookout. If you're visiting Rouen, this is a must-see!
Louis F — Google review
This is a magnificent clock right by Notre Dame of Rouen. The clock is cool but don't miss the rest of the houses that depict how tax collection policies form the basis of these small base houses with large upper structures. All of these incentives allowed for funky developments in this town. A very interesting place to experience this part of Normandy.
C N — Google review
Enjoyed our visit. Thankfully very quiet so no congestion on the narrow stairs. Worth a visit. Audio guide was okay but not hugely engaging.

It's exercise with a capital E. It's worth every penny. I know what you're thinking, 7.70 to see a bell? It's sooo much more than that.
Eric B — Google review
Walking around these streets feels like you’ve been transported back in time to medieval Europe, with cobbled streets and half timbered houses. The clock in its golden design adds to the magical atmosphere. It’s almost like you’re inside a Disney story book. Definitely a must visit when in Rouen and if you can then definitely do a walking tour around the area - you will have beautiful pictures to look back at.
Tawseef K — Google review
Walking through Rouen’s Old Town felt like flipping through an illustrated book of medieval France — half-timbered houses, gothic churches, and a golden astronomical clock that glows in the afternoon light. Every corner turns into a postcard. Locals sit by stone cafés, and you hear the sound of footsteps echoing on the cobblestone. I didn’t plan much, but ended up walking for hours. 💡 Tip: Come around golden hour — the light makes the facades even more magical. Great for wandering photographers or solo daydreamers.

⭐ 5/5 – Le Gros Horloge (The Great Clock of Rouen) Most people walk by, snap a photo, and keep moving — but if you stop and truly look, you’ll discover one of the most extraordinary pieces of craftsmanship in France 🕰️✨. Every inch of Le Gros Horloge is filled with incredible detail: golden rays representing the sun, delicate engravings that trace time’s passage, and an elegant hand that glides across a deep blue sky dotted with stars. What makes it truly unique is its astronomical design — it not only tells the time, but also shows the phases of the moon, days of the week, and the cycle of the sun 🌕☀️. It’s like a living calendar carved into history, reminding us of a time when timekeeping was both science and art. Standing beneath it, you can almost feel the centuries pass — the hum of medieval life, the merchants below, the monks who once tuned its mechanism. It’s not just a monument; it’s a conversation with time itself. 🧭 Tips for Visitors ✅ Take your time — admire the fine details before and after taking your photo. ✅ Visit the clock tower museum to see the mechanism up close and enjoy amazing views over Rouen. ✅ The surrounding street, Rue du Gros-Horloge, is one of the city’s most picturesque walks. Pause, look up, and let yourself be amazed — this isn’t just a clock, it’s a masterpiece that still beats with Rouen’s heart. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. This Belgian beer bar, tucked just below the tower, is an absolute gem! The selection of Belgian beers is outstanding, offering a fantastic variety of authentic brews that cater to every taste, from crisp lagers to rich, complex ales. The views from the bar are breathtaking, especially at night when the tower lights up, creating a magical ambiance. The atmosphere is lively yet cozy, making it the perfect spot for a memorable night out. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always ready to recommend a beer that pairs perfectly with the vibe. Whether you're a local or just visiting, this place is a must for beer lovers and anyone looking for a great evening with stunning views. Highly recommend! Tower itself is fine too

Aitre Saint-Maclou is a captivating historical site nestled in the heart of Rouen, renowned for its intriguing past as a plague cemetery dating back to the 14th century. This remarkable complex features hauntingly beautiful carvings that depict macabre themes and houses an ossuary added in the 16th century. Today, it serves as a vibrant cultural hub with the Fire Arts Gallery showcasing exquisite artisanal crafts made from clay, glass, and metal.
This used to house an ossuary and cemetery but the bodies were exhumed when it became too crowded. It has had many uses since the Middle Ages but many of the original decorative motives still exist. A fascinating place with a deep history.
G M — Google review
This was a cemetery in the Middle Ages but little is to be seen of that except the decoration on the walls of the court and a mummified cat in a glass window. It has then become a school and now it seems to be a meeting spot for art activities. There are boards explaining the history of the place. Unluckily the restaurant was closed as we visited.
Monica P — Google review
Incredible cool museum, the works of art are beautiful and the choice of the color of the walls is so spot on! So much to see. Most incredible part is that there is no entrance fee!!

It is a place for whom want to deep dive into history, art, culture in old France. I loved the ceramics, history of ceramics, also there is Cafe Hamlet. But expect so many people.

Unmissable if in the area. Well kept courtyard (a cemetery in the Middle Ages) and sculptural columns. Now converted into an art space with a crafts shop.

This is an amazing location with a very cool history. There is a little restaurant inside (which we didn't go to so I can't review it) but we mostly just walked around, enjoying the calm as well as the very interesting historical carved decorations.

Saint-Ouen Abbey Church, also known as Abbatiale Saint-Ouen, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture located in Rouen. This ancient church was part of a Benedictine monastery and took over two centuries to complete. It features an impressive lantern tower, numerous pinnacles, and picturesque gardens. The church houses a grand pipe organ and many original stained-glass windows.
An impressive Gothic church dating from the 14th to 16th centuries, known for its massive columns and vast, airy interior that feels both open and majestic. The high vaulted ceilings and generously sized naves create a striking sense of space. The church also houses one of Europe’s largest pipe organs, adding a rich musical dimension to a visit. Though damaged in the past, it was carefully restored and remains one of Rouen’s most remarkable sacred landmarks.
Michael N — Google review
No good when they are closed and completely covered for renovations unannounced. Show up to no entrance and construction covering the front. Sad. Was very excited to tour this church but only left with disappointment. Glad they are maintaining it, but announcing it would be really helpful for people trying to plan a visit.
Richard — Google review
A beautiful former abbey church, full of light and gothic arches, and home to one of the world's finest organs. Free to visit, closed between 1200 and 1400.

Under reinstallation, still you will enjoy more stained glasses than the notre dame. They have a big peaceful park next to it.

A truly magnificent building, the features are so striking. Inside the proportions are truly gigantic and just as astounding as the exterior
Ewan B — Google review
Obviously a beautiful cathedral. At the time of this writing, going under a significant amount of restoration work. Thought it was closed, but there was a small entrance from the side as the main entrance was boarded up. There is also a gorgeous park or garden in the back of the cathedral with benches and some playground equipment. A public outside water closet/bathroom was also available. Highly recommend.

The Church of St Joan of Arc is a boat-shaped monument and church built in 1979 to honor Joan of Arc. It features Renaissance windows and serves as a shrine for the beautiful stained glasses of the destroyed church St Vincent. Located near Place du Vieux Marche, it stands as a modern tribute to history.
This is an extraordinary work of modern architecture which seems totally at odds with the rest of the square in which it sits but it becomes more appealing as you look further and inside. It it a daring piece of design. Inside the space is bright and contemporary but set with the lead light windows of an ancient church. The space is enclose by a convex roof , the opposite of the pointed arch in most churches. The playful fish shaped windows add lightness but also meaning. A great space.
G M — Google review
The Church of Saint Joan of Arc in Rouen was one of the most moving stops on this trip to France. The Church is in the square where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. Never in a million years did I think I'd find myself here! There's a simple cross marking the spot, and standing there gave me chills. The church itself is… truly unique. It looks nothing like your typical cathedral. The outside is covered in these overlapping tiles that look like scales- very dramatic and almost sea creature like. It had been explained how the roof was made to look like flames (symbolizing her execution) and an overturned Viking ship outside, almost looking like a hat. Super symbolic, and once you know this information, the design makes a lot more sense! Inside, peaceful and very colorful. All the stained glass windows are unbelievably stunning! This place is absolutely worth seeing if you are anywhere near Rouen! The history and the design combined is unlike anything I've ever seen!
How L — Google review
This church honestly looks more like a parliament building than a traditional place of worship! Entry was free when I visited (it reopened at 2pm), which was a nice bonus. The building’s unique shape really stands out—it's unlike any other church or cathedral I've seen in Normandy. The stained glass windows are quite pretty, too. The location is a bit odd, though—right in the middle of the square, which doesn’t seem like the most natural spot for it. I actually thought the symbolic stake and the surrounding gardens outside felt more fitting for the setting. Overall, definitely worth a visit just to see something different!
Tom S — Google review
This is a church, monument, and complex dedicated to Joan of Arc. The entire complex was built on where she was burnt by the British. Now, it is a nice area for shopping and restaurants. Overall, a nice experience to learn about her saga and the history of this period in France.
C N — Google review
First they burned her, then made her a saint. What an irony. The church has very unique architecture, it's not like any other churches I have seen before. It's interesting that locals were not big fans of it, and even protested against it. Nevertheless it's here, in the middle of the Market Square. A nice place to sit and watch people, and think about your life. Do not miss the place where she was actually burned, to the left from the entrance.
Elllen K — Google review
Interesting church, placed in a place where executions were performed. The roof is extraordinary, resembling a dragon or a viking boat. The interior is something different from every church I've seen.
Marius T — Google review
This modern church looks less like a traditional place of worship and more like a Viking longship docked in the city — a drakkar with holy vibes. Built in the 1970s right where Joan of Arc was burned, it’s a bold mix of history and futuristic design. Inside, the minimalist, light-filled spaces are so calm you might forget you’re not on a Scandinavian cruise. Definitely a church that’s sailing against the architectural tide. :)
Michael N — Google review
The church is an extraordinary work of modernist architecture, and at the same time a disgrace to the Republic. It was built by decision of France, and today, without its clear protection, it reeks of urine and pigeon droppings, with trash scattered throughout its corners.

The Historial Jeanne d’Arc is a history museum located at the Archdiocese of Rouen, dedicated to the story of Joan of Arc. The museum showcases her life as a historical figure, myth, and religious icon through holographic displays. Visitors can explore the medieval buildings where she was threatened with torture and where her trial took place. The museum also features a retrial that occurred 25 years after her death.
Fantastic re-enactment tour of Jeanne's d'arcs story and trial. Very engaging well paced and interesting. They have styled the tour in side the old archbishops palace where projectors are used on the cleaned walls for aesthetic and intriguing storytelling. We needed English audio guides, which were free. Tour takes about an hour and you need to wait for the tour time to start because its video based. There is also other rooms after to look through after as well. Great view of Rouen here as well!
Kaz B — Google review
Well worth the time if you’re visiting. Excellent presentations of ancient events. The translation devices worked well. Two tips make sure volume is up and don’t put the receiver in your pocket. It seems to have a small aerial which you can see but the unit struggles if this is obscured. Much more knowledgeable after the tour.
Craig T — Google review
A really impressive modern exhibition about Joan of Arc’s life, full of projections, 3D visualizations, and a strong immersive vibe. The beginning feels like a historical movie you actually get to step inside. Later parts are more traditional, with documents and classic displays. Still, the whole experience holds together well — even those who skipped history class will walk away understanding why Joan remains such a legendary figure.
Michael N — Google review
Very interesting museum leading you through a retrial of Joan. Very immersive exhibits where you are lead through multiple rooms each with projections. Also set in the bishop's palace so included access to some rooms at the end with great views of the city.
Alfie N — Google review
I would have given 5 stars for this attraction about the life and death of Joan of Arc but as it’s a video exhibition in French you need to wear a headset. Whilst this doesn’t bother me you really have to have it loud to drown out the French audio on the video. Some great rooms and views of Rouen though, don’t be afraid to try doors to get into the chapel (see picture).
Lee H — Google review
Rather than a museum, it is a linear, immersive tour presented in multiple stages by means of a light/projection show while traversing up and around through the palace’s rooms and towers. The entire experience has high production value and very comprehensively explains the history of Jeanne D’Arc from beginning to end. I did not know about the place in advance so I was pleasantly surprised at the presentation. Highly recommended for those who want to learn in a more dynamic fashion.
Luis A — Google review
We luckily arrived right before a session was starting so didn’t have to wait before beginning. The concept is a multimedia presentation that takes place over several rooms that a large tour group moves through. Every session is the same, presented over loud speakers with projected visuals that were quite cool. If you want a translated audio, it is included in the price of your ticket. The headphones don’t actually sit in your ears and sometimes it was quite hard to tune out the French (especially if you mostly understand that too) to hear the translation. It was a bit of a sensory overload. In at least one quarter of the rooms there is not enough seating for the whole group, so if you have accessibility needs be sure to speak up to get a seat. It is largely wheelchair accessible although the main group takes lots of winding stairs. The story is told through actor portrayals of Joan’s contemporaries and is quite engaging. We did learn a lot, but still had some unanswered questions at the end (why was she called Joan of Arc?). Overall I think this is worth a visit if you want a different museum experience, you have kids, or you know very little about Joan of Arc. I would have been happier to pay slightly less for the experience.
Jasmine P — Google review

St. Maclou Catholic Church is a flamboyant Gothic church located in Rouen, France. It features ornate and graceful architecture with curved fronts, many arches, and sculpted wooden doors from the Renaissance period. Situated behind Cathedrale Notre-Dame on a small square filled with half-timbered houses, it forms part of the city's eye-catching scenery.
Beautiful church quite similar to the cathedral but smaller. The architecture is unique, detailed and impressive. The church itself is set in an area surrounded by beautiful Tudor-type buildings with cafes, restaurants and independent shops. It is in a fairly quiet part of the city centre. Not sure how often one gain entry. It is such a beauty to meander through the streets nearby.

What a beautiful church. It is the height of what is known as flamboyant gothic architecture. The stonework lace on the facade seems impossibly delicate. The richness of the carving is astonishing. The interior is just as impressive. A pure delight of gothic architecture and engineering brilliance.
G M — Google review
Beautiful church located in the old part of Rouen historic center, built in Gothic style in the 15th century. Hours for visits (10-12 & 2-6 PM) contain a gap from 12 to 2 PM and it closes 10 minutes before 12. The door closed just in front of us at 11:50 and we had to return later to see the wonders of this old cathedrale. It worth it!

Started by Henri Le Secq des Tournelles, the collection features over 12,000 wrought-iron items from different periods and places.
One of the loveliest spots in this well-run city, filled with pieces of incredible craftsmanship and astonishing detail. We had fun guessing the function of some of the old objects on the shelves, which have long ago lost their usefulness. In addition the museum is free, so you would basically commit a crime against yourself by not passing by this place

A fantastic free museum in a former church. The wrought iron works displayed as wonderful. Especially interesting are the old lock mechanisms. There are two levels to explore. Worth a visit if you are in Rouen and want to see some amazing craftspersonship up close.

Such an interesting museum! It opens 2 PM every day except Tuesday and it is free. I admired the creativity of its founders who organised it in a former church.

An absolutely fascinating and unique museum, unlike anything else you’ll find in Rouen 🗝️. It’s entirely dedicated to wrought iron art — from medieval locks, keys, and gates to delicate household items and signs that tell centuries of craftsmanship and history. 🏛️ What Makes It Special The museum is housed in a beautifully restored former Gothic church, which adds even more charm and atmosphere. The play of light through the stained glass windows gives a magical feeling as you walk among iron masterpieces that once decorated real homes and streets. 🔩 Why It’s Worth Visiting You don’t have to be an artist or blacksmith to appreciate the creativity and skill behind every piece. Each item has a story — from ancient locks that look like puzzles to elegant iron signs that once guided travelers and merchants. 📝 Practical Info ✅ Free entrance (check schedule in advance, hours may vary) ✅ Great for families, couples, or solo travelers interested in art and craftsmanship ✅ Combine your visit with the nearby Rouen Museum of Fine Arts — they complement each other perfectly A small but powerful museum that proves art isn’t just on canvas — it’s in the metal, history, and human imagination 🔥 ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. Honestly did not expect this place to be this great! Free entry, beautiful location and great collection of items on display. Would recommend it to anyone! Only thing that could be improved is the accessibility for non-French speakers. Google Lens can get you places, but it would be a lot easier to provide additional details and explanations in English too.

The Rouen Museum of Fine Arts, also known as the Meeting of Metropolitan Museums (RMM), is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts. Established by Napoleon, this museum boasts an extensive collection of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and decorative arts spanning from the 15th to the 21st centuries.
Un vrai trésor insolite! What a wonderful Sunday surprise to find a museum with free (!!) entry, no crowds, and room upon room of abundant chefs d'oeuvre from artists ranging from local stars like Bouton and Zacharie to luminaries such as Renoir, Sisley, Velasquez and Caravaggio. Cherries on top were the absolutely lovely and helpful staff (including the delightful staff member with the gorgeous earring 💜 and the coupe casquette) and the excellent selection in the shop. Also, there's a grand piano you can play surrounded by great art — what a treat!!We'll be back!

The Monet was a bucket list item. Easy to find. Friendly staff and such a pleasant atmosphere. A variety of amazing artists. There are a few paintings that just blow the mind with their size and complexity. Not sure if wheelchair friendly. The toilets were clean and tidy. Lockers for bags and a curio shop. Well located and has few restaurants in the area. The video attached of the Seine and the artists paintings along the river.

Beautiful fine arts museum; free entrance, open daily from 10 AM. It has 2 floors; some exhibitions are paid. Amazing beautiful hall at the ground floor with 3 huge pictures made by Dufy, other big pictures and many statues. The museum houses works of famous painters and sculptors; some decorations are also on display. 1-2 hours. Highly reccomended!

A truly beautiful and inspiring museum — one of the best in Normandy 🎨. The collection covers everything from medieval to modern art, including masterpieces by Monet, Caravaggio, and Delacroix. The layout is open and easy to follow, allowing you to take your time and enjoy each room without feeling rushed. 🖼️ What Makes It Special The balance between classical and impressionist works is perfect. The lighting and spacious halls create a calm atmosphere that lets you appreciate every detail of the art. Many of the pieces are directly connected to Rouen’s history and its influence on the Impressionist movement. 🎧 Practical Tips ✅ Free entry — a huge plus for such a quality museum. ✅ Descriptions available in both French and English. ✅ Café and gift shop inside for a relaxing break. 🚗 Parking is nearby, and the museum is just a short walk from the city center. But its very hard to find a spot! So if u find any in the way just park and walk If you love art, history, or architecture, this place is a must-see. Take your time, enjoy the silence, and let the paintings tell their stories. ⸻ For more tips follow me on Google. One of the best well organized museums I’ve visited. Almost in every room there is a sitting area, so the visitors can take a break from walking and standing, also allow ppl to take their time to enjoy the art. The map and marks are very clear to follow. The whole experience is easy, no rush and delightful, The collections of the impressionist arts are impressive. And it’s free entrance! Highly highly recommended.

The impressive Palais de Justice in Rouen, France [Image by Goldorak73 [CC BY-SA 3.0], via Wikimedia Commons] serves as a prime example of medieval architectural brilliance. Formerly a gathering spot for the Normandy Parliament, this Gothic masterpiece now accommodates the Rouen Court and remains inaccessible to tourists.
I don't remember what we paid to park here but it was around 22€ a day and 24/7. It was worth it because it was a clean, safe, and centrally located. We have a mid-sized SUV and didn't have any problem parking. I recommend going to a lower location as it is not as packed with cars. There was a clean elevator and we could pay as we left using tap and pay. They also took credit cards. We are coming back to Rouen and plan to use this same parking garage. I went to the Q-Park website and if you book a reservation, the price is much cheaper.

I won't ever use Q-Park again if I can help it. Their customer service is non-existent. They will not respond to multiple requests I've made via their website. Either there is no one monitoring their messaging system or they just don't care about their customers.

Tandem is a perfect alliance of two people who have been working together for many years. Fabien is in charge of cooking, Victoria welcomes guests in the restaurant. After traveling to many places, Tandem offers a cuisine with great flavors and satisfying tastes in a warm and friendly environment. The dishes are well-presented, not too sophisticated and simply delicious, as well as the service which is very welcoming and willing to give advice.
You need to book. Not less than nine potential clients were turned away tonight. This restaurant is exceptional. Very fair prices for high quality, beautifully presented food demonstrating exceptional care and a detailed ingredient knowledge from the chef. Small menu, but ideal for this situation to ensure that every dish is perfect. A single chef and waitress manage the restaurant which caters for about 28 diners at most. An intimate and genuinely delightful opportunity to experience fine French cuisine in a cobbled street with ancient buildings and just 50m from the cathedral in Rouen. I would suggest that this restaurant should not be missed.

Had a wonderful dinner on a recent trip to France. Food was amazing! One of best meals we've ever had! Locally sourced ingredients presented with creative but perfectly balanced flavors. Owners were impeccably courteous and accommodating, even asking if we preferred to do our ordering in English or French! Incredibly patient and encouraging with our attempts to practice our French! Booked our table by phone two months prior with ease, and they welcomed us by name when we entered. Restaurant is small and was completely filled for dinner service so definitely reserve a table. Owners do everything including cooking, greeting and seating, and waiting tables with apparent ease and grace. Definitely recommend. A must for both locals and travelers.

After some walking from the city center (30 minutes) and a bit of climbing (15-20 minutes), we arrived and enjoyed the view of the city. It was great but nothing spectacular that made us stay longer. People could also reach this spot by cars, we saw some cars parked just next to this place. It was a good addition after exploring Rouen city.
Irwan J — Google review
The climb is tough but worth it! The route is not properly maintained with steel rods from the wooden planks sticking out from the ground so be extremely careful and the entry to the climb has nasty smell. The authorities should take proper action to do some thing about that. But a nice place to be.

We spent a day in Rouen and decided to walk to the panorama point for the view and the walking path. However, I wouldn’t recommend going there if your time in Rouen is limited. The path and the viewpoint were quite noisy due to the nearby motorway. While Rouen itself is a beautiful city, it is surrounded by factories and modern buildings, and the panorama also includes these less appealing sights. For me, it ended up being a waste of time and energy.

The Pont Gustave-Flaubert stands as a remarkable feat of engineering and design in Rouen, marking the latest addition to the city's iconic bridges. Officially opened on September 25, 2008, after four years of construction, this impressive structure is recognized as the highest lift bridge in Europe. With two massive decks weighing 1300 tons each and stretching 86 meters long, it can elevate to an astonishing height of 55 meters, allowing maritime vessels access to the river beyond.

If you're into bridges, then this is a very good and modern example of a lifting bridge. Located right in the centre of Rouen, is has three lanes in both directions with walkways both sides. Traversing the river and developing waterside. I ran underneath it on my parkrun. It's a pretty busy thoroughfare and be mindful of the complexity of the lanes and slip roads, or you'll find yourself going back and forward trying to reach the boatyard and Aire Camp site. #only3times

The Musée Flaubert d'Histoire de la Médecine is a unique museum located in the former Hotel-Dieu hospital, which was also the birthplace and home of the renowned 19th-century French writer Gustave Flaubert. The museum offers an intriguing blend of literary history and medical heritage, showcasing the life of the Flaubert family and medical practices from that era.

(Translated by Google) A museum full of charm and authenticity. We discover Gustave Flaubert's birthplace with its creaky parquet flooring and period atmosphere, truly giving the impression of stepping back in time. The exhibition on the history of medicine is rich, varied, and sometimes surprising, very well explained without being heavy-handed. The garden completes the visit by providing a pleasant and peaceful setting to prolong the moment. During the Heritage Days, we were lucky enough to enjoy a free treasure hunt for children aged 6 to 8. Our son was the only one present for the 3:30 p.m. treasure hunt, probably due to a lack of communication about the event, but ultimately it made the experience even better for him. Special mention to Chloé (if I'm not mistaken about her name), who was adorable and full of enthusiasm, as well as to the gentleman at the reception, particularly friendly and welcoming. (Translated by Google) Originally a chapel on an island connected to the mainland during the reign of the Dukes of Normandy, it became a parish church when the area was developed. Construction of the church began on 5 July 1228. It was part of the chapter of Rouen Cathedral. The church, rebuilt in the early 16th century, was sacked by the Huguenots on 8 March 1563. In 1580, the building was completed, including the tower and the rose window above the main portal. Work began in the early 18th century by the architect Jean-Jacques Martinet. In 1791, during the French Revolution, the church was expropriated and deconsecrated. It was converted into a fodder warehouse and then into a gun factory due to the presence of the bell tower. Protestants were granted freedom of religion by the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789. In 1802, Napoleon I organized the church into Reformed and Lutheran consistories by department. In 1803, the building was transferred to the Reformed consistory of Bas-Seine. In 1857, the shops located next to the church were demolished. The old church has been listed as a historical monument since June 22, 1911. The church was damaged during the Allied bombing during Red Week in 1944. It reopened for worship on April 2, 1950. In 2018 and 2019, excavations carried out before the development of the "Heart of the Megalopolis" revealed an ancient Catholic cemetery from the Middle Ages near the church.

(Translated by Google) Absolutely deplorable service. I tried to reach them more than 100 times this morning between 9:00 and 11:30, without ever getting a response. There was no way to speak to an agent, not even a clear voicemail. And to top it all off, the reminder form I received contained incorrect information: it was impossible to pay the invoice with the references provided, either online or through traditional channels. More than 100 calls made between 9:00 and 11:30, no response. It was impossible to pay an invoice online: the reminder references are unusable, and the digital services are confusing and non-functional. So I had to go to the office in person—a waste of time and energy—just to pay the amount owed. Even on-site, the agents acknowledged the absurdity of the system. Fortunately, the staff on-site were exemplary in their efficiency and professionalism. One woman in particular took care of me with patience, competence, and kindness, despite the limitations imposed by a system clearly out of touch with reality. It's not the staff who should be blamed, but an outdated administrative system that pushes citizens to their limits, without listening to the repeated feedback from the field. It's time to seriously modernize public services and give employees the means to truly help taxpayers.

Simone is a highly recommended restaurant in Rouen, France. One visitor made the mistake of not reserving a table at another restaurant and was fortunate to secure a table for three at Simone. They described it as the best meal they had during their three weeks in France, praising the fresh and perfectly cooked dishes with accurate seasonings and balanced flavors. The efficient and friendly service added to their dining experience in the charming setting.
Really lovely and cosy restaurant. Small considered menu, but everything was very nice. Good wine pairings too. Upstairs had a better atmosphere.

Located in front of one of the dozens of churches in the city, this little gem offers an amazing, fresh, seasonal and short, yet perfect, weekly menu! Everything was great, from the food, to the service and the very fair price for the menu set. It’s a deal! Will go back anytime I visit the city! Easy to book by phone the same day.

Perfect. Very small menu and everything is delicious. I had the shrimp salad, the shrimps are hyper fresh, the salad also and the dressing is light and delicious. Cod is the best cod I’ve ever had, super fresh, the crustacean sauce is delicious, with lots of fresh crunchy veggies. Delicious wine. Very good value considering the quality and quantity. Excellent service, 1 young man mans the entire front of house, and he does so with ease and grace. Strongly recommend.

Awesome. Fabulous. A superb meal in a cozy setting. Only 4 stars for the atmosphere because it is well lit and cozy (tight). But wonderful. It is still a good date night location. And reasonably priced. Under 50E for two plates and an appetizer. Bottles of wine were moderately priced. Over a month of traveling in France, this was the BEST fish my wife had and the BEST veal I have had. Incredible.

The Office de Tourisme de Rouen is your gateway to exploring the enchanting city of Rouen, known for its stunning cathedral and rich historical monuments. Visitors can enjoy guided walks like 'Jumieges au naturel,' which includes a delightful lunch at L'Auberge des Ruines, followed by a visit to the abbey and an exploration of its herb and vegetable garden.
We stopped by to see what information they had for our visit. They also rent bicycles, an audio tour, have walking tours, sell merchandise , and provide other tourist information. Most of the staff spoke English and were very helpful and friendly.

I totally do not recommend picking the audio guide here. I am a huge fan of history and take the audio guides everywhere. This is one of the worst. First of all, the device is awful, it’s super quiet, you can barely hear the speech. Especially on the street. You can not move backward a little bit. If you miss something you have to listen from the very beginning of the section. Secondly the quality of materials is poor. Some parts are told very fast, so you can’t take your time to find the object or walk from one point to another to follow the story. The content is superbasic. If you just read the annotation and interesting facts on Wikipedia - it will be much more, than listening through the section. Also the content was not up to date in many points. Some materials in Rouen cathedral are no longer exposed, same for a few places in the citicenter as well. The good part it is chip - 8, euros in June 24 and the root through the city is really good and smart. I recommend you taking the route map in the tourist office and pass it on your own, reading the basic materials in Wiki or google reviews at each point. The city and it’s story are magnificent. One should take an effort to improve the educational services for the tourists.

The Donjon de Rouen, also known as the dungeon of Rouen, is a historic site in the city of Rouen, France. It is said to be the only remaining tower of the early 13th-century castle where Joan of Arc was imprisoned. However, there are claims that this may be a myth and that she was actually held in another tower which no longer exists.
An amazing piece of history. This is the last vestige of the battlements and is where Joan of Arc was held. It was not open on the Monday we visited but seems to house an escape room adventure.
G M — Google review
I went there on a Wednesday and it was closed so I couldn't see it inside. Anyway, I saw it outside and made another Joanne D'arc milestone.

Visited the Donjon tower on the 31st of December. Even though the tower looks amazing in the exterior, visiting the inside isn't really worth it. It is only open on weekends and there's nothing to see, really... we were informed that from March till November, it is used as an escape room, which sounds quite interesting so it would worth a visit then. The guy at the entrance was very kind, smiley, and polite.
Athina A — Google review
Very interesting story and exhibition - when I went it was set up like the Nazis would have kept it after their invasion in 1944. The exhibitions change every two years.
Bruno D — Google review
This tower is slightly north from Rouen center, some 15 min walk. It has a great historical importance, as Joan the Arc was imprisoned here, waiting for her trial. Also, it had its role in WWII resistance movement, but that's it. Today, it's nothing but a tower. There's no museum there, nor you can enter it, so it's a 5 min photo stop only. Decide yourself is it worth making a detour as there's nothing else to do in the area
Dejan B — Google review
Pros: nice big tower, Cons: nothing more than just a tower... can not go inside, just observe from outside... as I know this is not the exact tower in which Joan was imprisoned...

(Translated by Google) If you’re walking around Rouen, don’t miss the Notre‑Dame‑de‑Bonsecours Basilica in Bonsecours – it sits on a high ground, like a guardian of the city, quietly overlooking the entire city of Rouen. By the local architect Jacques‑Eugène Barthélémy, it was carefully built from 1840 to 1844 and is one of the earliest neo-Gothic Revival churches in France. The towering bell tower and spire on the front are perfect for taking photos in the early morning or evening, giving you a visual impact of traveling through time. This has been a pilgrimage site since the 11th century, and in the past boatmen would hang models of boats as ex‑votos of thanksgiving. Today, a 16th-century polychrome wooden statue of the Virgin is preserved on the first floor of the church, which has also been crowned by the Pope and has the status of a “basilica minor”. Once you enter, you’ll be surrounded by painted walls – like a Gothic version of a colored can. The Byzantine-style interior is inspired by the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. I especially recommend the mosaic floor of Sainte-Joseph Chapel, which uses the same glass + marble mosaic technique as Sainte-Chapelle in Paris. Moreover, the organ here was built by the famous Cavaillé‑Coll and completed in 1857. It was later upgraded with multiple stops, making it a dream “check-in place” for music lovers. The stained glass windows were produced by the Gsell factory in Choisy‑le‑Roi, telling the stories of the Old Testament prophets and the New Testament apostles. The main altar, choir, pulpit, etc. were hand-carved by Fulconis and his son, and the base was also carved with images of church fathers such as St. Augustine and St. Bernard. The richness of the building lies in the interior decorations. All the elevations and ceilings present very rich wall paintings. The only negative point is the heavy dirt which hinders the reading of the whole. Good cleaning and more maintenance will further preserve the church. The furniture is also very interesting but it is undoubtedly the organ which is splendid. It is one with the decor. It is very easy to get to and park there, often open. The Église Saint-Nicaise de Rouen is a large and historic church in Rouen, France. Built between 1538 and 1561, the church was greatly damaged by a fire in March 1934, but was rebuilt using reinforced concrete from 1934 to 1937. New stained-glass windows were installed in 1937, and Max Ingrand designed the new nave and bell tower. The church remains an important part of the local community today.

(Translated by Google) Founded by Saint Ouen, Archbishop of Rouen, in 640, it was then a chapel outside the city of Rouen and housed the relics of Saint Nicéze brought from Gasny. During the time of Saint Louis, it was incorporated into the city. In 1388, it became a parish church. The priest of Saint Nicéze was appointed by the Abbot of Saint Ouen. A new choir was built between 1538 and 1561. In 1560, the church was plundered by Calvinists. The church is known for its organ by Crepin Carlier, built in 1634. Restored in 1927-1928, it was inaugurated on 24 October 1928 by Joseph Bonnet. On 10 March 1934, a fire partially destroyed the church. The city of Rouen announced a competition to restore the nave and the bell tower. The project, chosen in 1935, was designed by the architects Pierre Chirol and Émile Gaillard; it was made of reinforced concrete. The work lasted from 1934 to 1937. The church was reopened for worship in 1940. The modern stained glass windows were made by Max Ingran. By the end of the 20th century, the reinforced concrete used for the reconstruction had deteriorated significantly and began to collapse. Water penetration weakened the south nave, which had to be partially reinforced. The church was therefore closed to visitors.

The Monet Monument in Rouen is a source of artistic inspiration, with the famous Impressionist painter Claude Monet finding Gothic influence at Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen. This iconic monument has witnessed historical events, such as Richard the Lionheart's heart being preserved in one of its tombs and Joan of Arc's execution in the main square during the 15th century. Full of charm, I find that the place highlights the bust of our dear Mr. Monet, although some say who would have preferred it near the Cathedral which he so majestically magnified in his work. One, the cathedral is just a few steps away and two, this bust needed a place all to itself.

Rouen Cathédrale et Église Saint-Maclou is part of a stunning collection of churches in the heart of Rouen, earning it the title "city of a hundred spires." The cathedral stands out as the tallest in France at 151 meters. Visitors are captivated by its Gothic architecture and well-preserved grandeur. During special events, the cathedral transforms into a mesmerizing display with light shows.
We visited the Cathedral during our trip to the Christmas Markets. Rouen has many lovely buildings and streets to wander around. The Joan of Arc cathedral is very unusual. Plenty of nice shops and restaurants. We were there drinking early December for the Christmas Markets.

(Translated by Google) A small chapel already existed at the beginning of the 13th century, which is believed to have been the foundation of the Abbey of Saint-Ouen. It also had its patronage. In 1230, Saint-Vivien became an intramural parish. The church served as the abbey church of Saint-Ouen when it burned down. It was completely rebuilt in 1358. It consists of two naves and a bell tower. It was consecrated by the Bishop of Avranches. Located in a flourishing textile district, it was expanded in the mid-15th century. In 1560, the Calvinists damaged the church. In the 16th century, the naves were widened and a new one was built to the south. In 1636, the central nave was raised after the construction of an apartment building along the walls of the church. It then took on its current appearance. The extension of the Rue Armand-Carrel in 1880 demolished the houses around the church and cleared the front yard. Later, the architect Lucien Lefort built a porch for the church. Today, on the north wall of the church along the Rue Saint-Vivienne, overlooking the Croix-des-Pierre district, you can see the remains of the Saint-Vivienne fountain and the tower used to rescue abandoned babies.

(Translated by Google) Certainly it is a beautiful church with beautiful ceremonies but I have just learned that 23 students from the St François de Sales (FSSPX) school with a teacher trained by this FSSPX church have left for St Patrice. Based on the elements in my possession, I find this inelegant. (Translated by Google) The Saint-Patrice church in Rouen presents itself as a real gallery of magnificent stained glass windows. Most are from the 16th century, the others from the 19th, and one is by Max Ingrand. Like the Rouen churches of Saint-Vivien and Saint-Godard, it has a central nave and two side aisles. Originally, it was vaulted in wood. Historically, the building was preceded by two buildings. In the 10th century, the location occupied by the current church was outside the walls. It housed an oratory already dedicated to Patrice, patron saint of Ireland. A fire devastated the entire district in 1228. The reconstruction was an opportunity to extend the perimeter of the walls: the new church was then erected within the city walls. In 1535, Saint-Patrice was completely rebuilt in flamboyant Gothic style. The surrounding area, soon inhabited by rich families of notable people from Rouen, saw the construction of sumptuous private mansions. Members of the Parliament of Normandy had taken up residence there. And there was no shortage of sources of funding for the stained glass windows. In 1562, Saint-Patrice was pillaged by the Huguenots. The royal army of Henry IV besieged the city in November 1591 (until April 1592). On this occasion, cannonballs pierce the bell tower (remember that the building rises very close to the rampart located to the north). In 1648, major works enlarged it: widened bedside; erection of the west facade on the street, and extension of the south aisle to current Rue Saint-Patrice. Around 1650, a very active priest, Pierre Chrétien, founded, in buildings nearby, a community of priests (called a seminary), responsible, among other things, for the education of poor children. A part of the church was reserved for its members. The community was dissolved in 1791. In 1854, the Carmelites came to settle in part of these old buildings. Currently, the location is home to a real estate residence. During the Revolution, the church was initially kept in the list of parish churches of the city - which allowed it to be enriched with furniture from suppressed religious establishments. Closed in 1793, it was then occupied by the society of theophilanthropists and, in 1802, returned to worship. Finally, in the 19th century, a return to architecture: the west portal was completely redeveloped by the architect Eugène Barthélemy. Even more than Saint-Vivien and Saint-Godard, the Saint-Patrice church is truly surrounded by Renaissance stained glass windows. Only the entrance above the organ gallery is without it. This is why, if you are in Rouen, a visit to Saint-Patrice is essential. This page focuses on the building's 16th century stained glass windows, without claiming to be exhaustive. The bay numbers shown are those of the Corpus Vitrearum.

Paroisse Saint Antoine is a modern church built at the beginning of the 20th century, standing out with its contemporary design while still preserving religious mystique. The church features beautiful paintings and stained glass windows, and its spacious interior with a ceiling resembling a boat hull adds to its unique charm. Visitors praise the warm and friendly atmosphere during mass, as well as the welcoming gestures such as flower necklaces for newcomers.

(Translated by Google) The youngest priest, who arrived not so long ago and now serves with other respected and much more experienced priests in this beautiful church, must seriously reflect: is he truly in his right place in life, or has he simply, out of natural pride, made a profound mistake in choosing such a serious life path, one that requires true spiritual awareness 🤔☝🏻😉🙂?... Because feelings of arrogance, envy, and hypocrisy are completely incompatible with the service of our Lord, since Jesus Christ teaches us understanding, sensitivity, patience, and love for our neighbor ☝🏻😉🙂... And I am sure that through my prayers, Our Lord Himself will put everything in its place in this disappointing and unpleasant story, for there is nothing secret that would not become clear to Him 🥲🙏🏻👐🏻... Amen 🙏🏻. Peace and insight to all 🙂🙏🏻❤️‍🔥🕊️👐🏻.
