Praia dos Ingleses, located in the Foz do Douro district of Porto, is a sandy beach known for its popular promenade lined with restaurants, cafes, and bars overlooking the ocean. While it holds Blue Flag status, it's not ideal for swimming and sunbathing but offers great people-watching opportunities. The beach stays lively after dark with open cafes. Its name originated from being frequented by foreigners, particularly the British community in the 19th century.
Really nice and clean beach with small colourful stones and coarser, pebbly sand. This time it was even inviting for a quick dip, there were several people swimming and sunbathing.
Devi ( — Google review
One of the best spots in Porto to watch the sunset. The light hits the waves just right, and the sky turns into a painting every evening. Peaceful, clean, and not too crowded — perfect for a quiet walk or just sitting and taking it all in. Highly recommend coming here around golden hour!
Illia K — Google review
Easily accessible by bus, as it is right along the busy main road....so traffic noise too. The beach is very narrow, gravelly not fine soft sands, and with strong waves, lots of rocky outcrops... and your feet sink in deep upto your ankles when walking. Not the best if you are looking for fine soft sands and beach games and gentle waves or gettingin the water. The waves are too strong. However, this place is great to watch waves crash on the many rocky outcrops along the beach. As the evening progresses, the waves recede exposing many more rocky platforms that soon become shallow tidal pools. Lots of pretty algae and tiny colorful stones. And if you like to watch the sun setting into the water, this place is perfect. Better still you can walk towards lighthouse and watch the sunset over the ocean horizon from there. The WC at the beach locks at 7pm. No restaurants right on the beach, but one can go to the ones up on the road.
Joy — Google review
A lovely beach with soft sand and clear cold water, perfect for swimming and relaxing. It can get busy during peak season, so arriving early helps to find a good spot. There are a few cafés and bars nearby for snacks and drinks. The views of the cliffs and ocean are beautiful.
Marta A — Google review
Catching golden hour at Praia dos Ingleses was unexpectedly moving. The light spills gently across the shoreline, bathing the rocks in soft amber tones that feel almost surreal. It’s the kind of place that slows you down and invites a bit of quiet reflection—even a touch of romance, if you’re in the right mood. The beach is clean, peaceful, and not at all crowded, even with such a beautiful view. Whether you're walking, watching the tide roll in, or just soaking in the atmosphere, it has a stillness that stays with you. If you’re into photography, bring your camera—the light and textures here are something special.
Luis F — Google review
Very beautiful! Waves were very strong. A nice path to walk.
Esra D — Google review
Exquisite, glorious sunset here to contemplate. A lot of people go for a walk, exercise, hang out with friends or walk their dog here while being showered by the charms of sunset. It is super windy here so make sure you are ready with scarf and warm clothes to enjoy without getting freezing!

Praia do Carneiro is a small, windswept beach located near the entrance to the River Douro. It features pebbly sand, a jetty, and a lighthouse at one end. Adjacent to the beach is the impressive 16th-century Fortaleza de Sao Joao da Foz, which hosts regular exhibitions.
Morning walks along this beach are a delight even with the machines moving the excess seaweed from the shore. It can foggy and moody or bright and shiny. There were folks swimming, others lounging. It was a great place to do some deep breathing and soak up the salty sea air
World X — Google review
A beautiful area with clean, sandy beaches. There was quite a lot of areas on the paths that were closed off with barriers, but lots of people were walking around the barriers to go take photos, and it was unclear what the closures were for. The beach is very beautiful, with lovely views and it continues north which makes for a nice walk.
Catherine G — Google review
This was a beautiful area for the sunset. The beach is well taken care of with very little pollution. And the rocks in the water add so much esthetics to the view. It was not very crowded at all when we went. There are very good restruants around aswell with wonderful views of the ocean.
Vincent A — Google review
A nice and clean beach..Really like the long path for walking. 👍Must recommend to visit.

Great experience oberall going for a nice walk there, did like 20km thru the coast, everything safe, calm and full of friendly local and tourists, there’s a lot of bars and places you could refresh, have a break and drink something! Wear sunscreen! I didn’t and got real bad sunburns the first day! Always protect against the sun! I totally recommend the northern beaches in Portugal, amazing!

Beach
Outdoor Activities
Praia de Matosinhos is the largest beach in the Porto region, conveniently located just 15 minutes from the city center. While it may not be the most picturesque, its golden sands and suitable waves make it a popular spot for surfing and bodyboarding. The beach also offers surfing schools where you can rent equipment.
Absolutely beautiful beach. We took half a day and just explored. There’s an old fort there that’s pretty cool (and cheap, like 50 cents to enter). It was a bit windy the day we went so we just took up a spot on the rocks and soaked it all in. We had lunch at one of the many restaurants and it was delicious.
Justin S — Google review
It's a beautiful beach. ✅ It's long and has very fine sand. ✅ There are taps for washing hands and feet. ✅ Free changing rooms are available. ✅ There are sufficient parking spaces. Don't forget: It's free after 1:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.
Serkan K — Google review
Lovely beach with a wide expanse for the sun worshipers. Thete was a red flag flying and an official looking sign saying no bathing. There were however lifeguards on duty. It appears that officially the water quality does not meet the approved standards but people are allowed to use it nevertheless. That is my interpretation of what I observed. There is a municipal drsin which empties into the sea nearby.
Don H — Google review
Day trip from Porto on the metro and although the town is nothing special apart from the fish market the beach is amazing and very popular. Weekends are much busier than a week day. Great day out to sit by the sea having lazy lunch.
Ian G — Google review
This is part of a continuous coast line in porto with many people flocking in for sunbathing, surfing, some beach sports or to take a dip in the sea. The beach is clean and has a lot of sand but it does not compare with other prominent beaches in the country. Strong winds make this place ideal for surfing.
Akash B — Google review
The Praia de Matosinhos is a beautiful, vast sandy beach near Porto, popular for sunbathing, surfing, and beach sports. It lies along a continuous coastline attracting many visitors seeking relaxation or active water sports. The beach is clean with soft golden sand, though it is less scenic than other Portuguese beaches due to the nearby port and industrial areas. Strong winds and sizeable waves make it ideal for surfers, supported by local surf schools. At the southern edge stands the historic Castelo do Queijo fort, a charming site with great views and affordable entry. The beach's lively atmosphere is complemented by numerous excellent seafood restaurants and a vibrant promenade lined with cafes and bars. It's easily accessible by metro and perfect for a half-day exploration filled with culture, nature, and gastronomy
Jack C — Google review
Good place to take a stroll on the beach. You can also bike on the extended boardwalk
Maria P — Google review
I mean it’s a beautiful beach, but too much wind and cold, uncomfortable to swim. It is very big, you will always find a place for you. The sand is normal. Relatively easy to park a car close by.

Praia do Molhe is a picturesque beach known for its iconic neoclassical-style pergola, which dates back to the 1930s and sits on the promenade above the beach. Accessible via a staircase designed in the same style as the pergola, this beach features a stone jetty that protects swimmers from strong swells.
If the weather is windy, this place is truly magical! We spent hours on end just walking around and admiring the waves! You’ll notice there are often two or three walkways on different elevations - that is very much intentional, since depending on the tide and wind the waves can EASILY cover the lower ones. Take a look for a minute before you cross, (or better yet check if the walkway is wet) to make sure the waves won’t reach you. We’ve witnessed some tourists take an unexpected shower!

nice place to walk and ocean view

Nice board walk beach You can bring your own umbrella or rent There is a rins shower Beach is more stone not sand so not much for swimming
Lana K — Google review
Amazing views of the ocean, beautiful sandy beach, and massive rocks. It was foggy when I visited, and the waves were huge, took some really nice pictures. There are also several restaurants along the beach, and it wasn’t crowded at all (in September). Would recommend and would go again anytime.
Patricia S — Google review
Nice urban beach!!!
Michael C — Google review
Very nice place to take pictures. The pergola is smaller than I expected but still very nice and looks taken care of.
Simona M — Google review
Small beach area forming part of the Foz beach area. Mainly stoney with some sandy patches, quite a lot of seaweed. Area isn't overly touristic but is fairly pleasant with some decent yet slightly pricey restaurants nearby. Nice views but felt a little bit like the bad end of the beaches and felt a bit dead. Good promenade area but currently disrupted by construction although there are some fairly well-maintained free public toilets built into the promenade wall just above beach level by the restaurants.
Matt C — Google review
Beautiful beaches all the way along this this stretch of coast. Very few people swimming the day I was there - the sea was choppy and I don't think it was too warm!!

Praia do Homem do Leme, also known as Helmsmans Beach, is a popular beach in Porto with fine sands and a rocky headland. It offers limited facilities but is well-known for its bronze statue of a helmsman by Americo Gomes, honoring the area's fishermen. The beach has received Blue Flag status and Golden Beach status for its accessibility.
Super nice park, recently renovated. Two areas which are enough for several kids to play. Varied activities. Shade inside the castle but otherwise not much more around. Great cafe bar right next door with chillout music and ambience.
DJ — Google review
This is one of half a dozen praias along this stretch of the Atlantic coast, which my wife and I walked along in Mar25. Great to get out Oporto to be at the seaside. We took bus 500 to get out there and back; it nominally ran every quarter of an hour on Sunday. These beaches are probably a nightmare full of tourists at the height of the season.
Dave K — Google review
A small and quiet beach, perfect if you want to escape the crowds. The water is clear and the surroundings are peaceful. Not ideal if you’re looking for lots of facilities, but great for a relaxing walk or sunbathing.
Marta A — Google review
A little bit rocky, the sand is finer and nicer more to the north. But the restaurant near by is amazing. Better food than what I found in Porto directly. Really amazing sunset and terasse during the day.
Nicholas D — Google review
Nice board walk along the beach . This area has playgrounds & toilets & rins shower Parking is far and paid There is a cafe good for snacks & drinks

A good place to relax even in the winter. If you have kids, there’s a nice playground right in the front of the beach, and a restaurant beside. In the beach, you can walk by the rocks and enjoy the landscape with an amazing sunset.

Beach
Praia Cabedelo do Douro is a serene stretch of shoreline with soft white sand, perfect for leisurely walks and sunbathing. Located in the Porto town of Espinho, it offers a vast expanse of creamy-colored sand and traditional fishing boats can be seen gathering anchovies and sardines. While some locals claim it's a nudist beach, it's actually more of a wild beach with no amenities like showers or toilets, making it quieter and less crowded.
Very beautiful beach. Despite the bad weather we had a great picnic and a cold swim in the Atlantic. There are also boulders on the beach. I recommend it!
Urh H — Google review
Quiet, natural beach with soft sand and dunes. Great for a peaceful walk or kite surfing. Part of a nature reserve, so expect beautiful views and lots of birds. No facilities, but worth the visit
Illia K — Google review
I think this is the most peaceful beach I’ve ever been to. Every time we go it’s mainly just us and 5 other people at most. It’s perfect if you want to have a peace of mind. There’s also a running and bike track near the beach so we always see people jogging. Keep in mind to dress warm as it can be a bit windy.
Nikolina K — Google review
Windy & wild beach, not really made for bathing, at least not when we were there. But with really great sunset views of the ocean. We did a nice walk from the Ponte Luiz here, this area is generally a nice spot for walks.
Devi ( — Google review
Good beach on the Gaia side of the mouth of the Duro River Note: does not seem to have bathrooms anywhere nearby as far as we could see 😳

What a stunning beach! Quite remote, but easy to reach by bus. Cafes and restaurants are also in walking distance (but nothing directly at the beach). The waves were high but ok for a quick swim. Perfect sunset place.

Maybe is not official beach, but is really wonderful place. Long and wide beach 🏝️. Such a nice sand. You can go natural or with clothes. It was very few people. Very good place for walk and sunbathing, but to be honest water was to cold for me to swim.

Great beach and board walk. Nice mix of fine sand and rock along the ocean. Beautiful sunsets and nice place to sit and relax with cold beverage.
Ron S — Google review
Such a beautiful beach. The Rock's protruding out of the sand just make it more beautiful it is a bit windier than other beaches and the temperature is a lot cooler so be prepared for that.
Mixed A — Google review
I thought it was pretty boring walking here. The weather wasn’t that great, it was cold and windy so maybe that has influence on my review. Otherwise they had great bicycle paths up by the street. + free parking on the street -dirty car when you go back (sand and water spots all over
Dave — Google review
Lovely to walk endless in the dunes and watch the sea and listen to the waves. So quiet and worth to come here for long walks.
AnJa M — Google review
Great beach. Not so easy to get to. Bus takes forever. Recommend renting a bike instead. Like all beaches in Porto, can be foggy

We went here to enjoy the sun but unfortunately it is too windy. So, we decided to move to the park. The beach is pretty easy to reach by google maps. The beach is clean. There is dustbin to throw your trash. There is a pathway for you to walk around the beach. They have some bars nearby if you want to enjoy the weather.

Praia de Salgueiros is a tranquil and picturesque beach with a pebbly shoreline and natural pools that form at low tide, offering a unique swimming experience. The rocky terrain and scenic path along the beach make it popular among bikers, walkers, and runners. The area boasts beach cabanas for hire at affordable prices, as well as numerous bars and restaurants. Visitors can enjoy stunning sunsets while sipping on drinks and indulging in delicious meals at the beach cafe/restaurant.
I visited on a Wednesday and it was nice and quiet. There were a few little families and seniors sunbathing. The beach itself is really pretty and serene but I did not go into the water as it was a bit chilly outside. I also felt there was a lot of seaweed on the shore. It’s a lovely beach though with restaurants and bars nearby.

Truly a beautiful landscape. A lot of locals go there so there are not a lot of places to eat. Also don't stay out too late since the public transportation is almost inexistant after sunset. And be careful of local uber there are agressive towards tourists.

Senhor da Pedra beach is a magnificent place with a small chapel built on rocks and surrounded by the ocean, creating a magical atmosphere. It's just 10 minutes away from the center of Porto by car. The beach features wide and clean sandy shores, although there are many rocks to navigate around for swimming. During low season, it's not crowded, offering splendid views and perfect sand.
Perfect place to reach from Porto. Around 10€ by Uber. You can setup next to the dunes and enjoy the sometimes windy day by the sea.

Senhor da Pedra beach is one of my favorite places to visit in Portugal. The location inspires me each time I visit. I always try to encourage visitors to make time to visit Senhor da Pedra Chapel as it so memorable. Its about 30 minutes from Porto via metro and train. It's only a 10 minute walk from the Mirimar train stop.

The view is beautiful with this chaple. You can go up there and see how the waves are. Unfortunately it was very windy.... But if it wasn't that windy then 5 stars!!! There were 3 restaurants/bar at the beach 2 small ones and 1 big one. We didn't ate there
Elisa — Google review
It's one of my favourite place in Porto, I walk to it frequently and inside is small but really peaceful. It sits on rocks behind with amazing views to the Atlantic.

It is easy to go to the beach by car, train, or bus. You can follow google maps direction. It has a beautiful unique church nearby. You can do sun-bathing here and also swim, but the water is too cold. In the summer, this beach will be full of people. The water is clean. You can get some beautiful stones. You can walk, relax, and picnic too.

Praia do Castelo do Queijo, also known as Cheese Castle Beach, gets its name from the nearby Fort of Sao Francisco Xavier. The beach offers good access and is popular for bathing and surfing, with surf schools available. At low tide, you can walk far into the sea. The area around the beach features workout equipment and a statue that provides great photo opportunities. Despite strong winds in winter, visitors can enjoy stunning ocean views and admire the castle's architecture.
The wind was fierce on this dreary winter day, but the Cheese Castle offered spectacular ocean views and a windbreak. There is workout equipment located at the park, to help with your fitness goals year round. Great spot and will be back.

Incredible birding very close to the city center. Highly recommend to all bird watchers. Flamingos, kingfishers, egrets and an osprey! Has two elevated walkways and two blinds for great viewing of the estuary. I would recommend that you go during low tide so the mudflats are exposed and more shorebirds are present.

Praia de Dunas Mar is a beautiful and clean beach with a wide white sand area. Visitors can enjoy activities like swimming, sunbathing, and playing ball in the sand. There are restaurants nearby, but bringing your own food and drinks is recommended to avoid high prices. The beach offers stunning sunset views, nice waves, and rocky shores. Additionally, there are large houses nearby and a scenic biking path along the coast for walking or jogging.
I loved taking the train and walking the boardwalk to another town and returning to Porto. There are plenty of places to eat and drink along the way. The boardwalk is in fairly good condition and provides an easy to way to travel on the coast. There are also many paths leading from it to the shore.

Timo J — Google review
The beach is clean and beautiful. What you need to do is find the parking for your car. Then, you just need to walk to the beach. Do not worry if you do not buy any food or drinks, there are some restaurants open nearby. We prefer take food and drink by our own to buy there. It could be too pricey because it is a tourist place. You can play ball in the sand. The white sand area is quite wide enough. You can swim, read, do sun-bathing. It is free to enter to the beach. Do not forget to keep your trash until you can throw in the dustbin. Keep the distance as always. You can search for some seafood between rhe rocks if they have less water.

Praia das Pedras Amarelas is a popular beach known for its yellow rocks, which are naturally dyed with iodine. Families can enjoy the nearby playground, although the absence of swings may be disappointing for some children.
Beautiful and rocky beach. Great path for bikers, walkers, and runners. YOU can actually climb the rocks but be mindful of the weather , it's hard to see far when it's Dewey out which could be dangerous. Otherwise worth the visit!

It's nice, a bit touristy for me. Parking is fine at night, but at peak times of the day, it's a free for all traffic jam. Also, it's pretty dangerous, with locals driving much too fast in an area with so many pedestrians!! Yikes. Beach Front was nice and clean, though, and lots of places to snack or get drinks. 34Praia da Aguda

4.5

Beach
Praia da Aguda is a beautiful sandy beach with a wide white sand area and an amazing boardwalk that extends for miles. It's a great spot to enjoy the sea air, go for a swim, sunbathe, or play ball in the sand. The beach is free to enter and has unobtrusive cafes nearby. While there are restaurants open nearby, it's recommended to bring your own food and drinks as prices can be high due to its popularity among tourists.
Beautiful, uncrowded, windswept beach fine sand big breakers, clean.
David R — Google review
It is the beach like normal.
Rita — Google review
The Aguda beach itself is much too rocky for many “beach” activities. The beach is steep and the waves are strong. Too rocky for many sandcastles. Maybe in other beach areas in Aguda it is better, but Aguda Beach is 👎🏻. It is not busy for a reason. Now, if you want to sunbathe and watch the water with few people, this is your spot.
