Pizza restaurant
Pizzeria La Baula is a well-established Italian restaurant located in Tamarindo. It offers an extensive menu of authentic, thin-crust pizzas cooked to perfection in a woodfire oven. The owner, who is Italian, ensures that the flavors are as genuine as they come. The restaurant maintains a classy atmosphere and is perfect for a nice dinner out with family or friends. Its location off the main drag adds an element of adventure to finding this gem.
We stopped in for dinner and ordered the Meat Lovers Pizza and Sangria. The pizza was cooked to perfection and the sauce and thin crust was delicious. The staff was nice and friendly and very attentive. They have a beautifully decorated outdoor garden setting. Overall we enjoyed our dining experience.
Stuber V — Google review
We had the pepperoni, the Baula, and the Chèvre and all 3 were great! Friendly service too!
Liz G — Google review
This could have been a 5 star review as the Pizza, service and atmosphere are lovely. What spoiled it for us was the Tico 'trick" when you come to pay. If you try to pay by credit card they take your card, then walk away and come back with a piece of paper saying your card did not work and can you pay cash. We INSISTED to pay by card and eventually went behind the bar with the server and watched her enter the transaction into the PDQ machine, and funnily enough it worked !! This has happened to us in a few places when they want cash payments instead credit cards. Left us with a sour taste, and will not be returning!
Stuart L — Google review
Excellent!!! We loved this place…so much that we ate here twice while on vacation! :) The pizza (and salad) is delicious, very friendly staff, and quick service. The ambiance is really nice and our kids enjoyed getting to play outside while waiting for our food. Highly recommend!!
Rachel B — Google review
We wound up here on Easter since most other restaurants were closed. This is a pizza only place with plenty of tables. The pizza itself was decent and d the service was quick.
Big C — Google review
Amazing pizza and best service you could ask for all in a beautiful restaurant setting. The restaurant offers authentic Italian pizza with great drinks and desserts. Servers were able to communicate well in English and Spanish and the manager speaks Italian as well. Go for the pizza but do not skip the dessert or limoncello. As a bonus, there is also an outdoor eating area with a playground for younger guests.
Daniel F — Google review
First of all the restaurant itself looks straight out of a travel magazine. It’s beautiful. The play area for kids is a huge bonus for those with little ones. The pizza was delicious with the crust being a perfect balance of crispy and chewy. Blue cheese was a surprise of our cheese pizza and we ate every slice. Highly recommended
Josh B — Google review
Lovely decor, indoor and outdoor area. Beautiful play area outside. Great to keep little ones entertained. Staff were friendly and attentive. Pizzas were amazing. Lots of choices. Traditional Italian style stone baked. Very good size, lots of toppings too. Salad was a good size too. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for pizza. Live singer on Friday night too (may have other nights but this was when we attended)

The extensive wine selection and attentive service add to the overall experience. Situated in a modern city with a touch of nature, Tamarindo offers a unique blend of urban amenities and natural beauty.
Amazing chef, beautiful restaurant! We had some luck deep sea fishing and brought our catch. Chef knew exactly what to do with the amberjack and tuna! Creative and flavorful, could not have asked for a more delicious experience.

A spectacular menu with superior tastes, plating, herbs and service. seriously, one of the best unique restaurants in continent america. Super fresh, very special dishes (sea food, meat, veggie from appetisers, main to desserts) in a variate set of options. great wine, very good service. Even the Gluten Free options for celiac guests worked very well. All in all, we had an amazing dinner, thanks to Shlomy and the team.
Gershon D — Google review
Shlomy's is always a wonderful experience. Two out of the three times I've been, there was a band or musician playing (the third time was during Covid). Their menu has a vegan section, with other vegan menu items clearly marked. I've had all of the vegan dishes, including they vegan apple crumble, the seared mushrooms, and the cauliflower. Everything is delicious! They even bring you your own vegan bread basket 🙂 They have menus is English and Spanish and you can order in either language. Also pictured is the Mahi Mahi, which I obviously did not eat but was told it was really good, and the orange mash was delicious. If you find yourself in Tamarindo, I highly recommend going to Seasons by Shlomy. It's a little confusing to get to, but if you keep following the path, eventually you'll get to a pool and that's where Shlomy's is set up. It's well worth it!

Seasons is a small restaurant in a boutique hotel, with great atmosphere and decor. Situated poolside with wooden rafts and floors, it was a very enjoyable meal. They offer a variety of options including vegan, gluten free and omnivore. The service was friendly and the food was tasty.
Lindsey K — Google review
Attentive and friendly service with a nice atmosphere. Enjoyed our drinks and meals very much. They take credit card (we read earlier reviews saying cash only).
Alyssa M — Google review
Tucked away little secret in Tamarindo that is well worth the small effort it takes to find. I ate early so I nearly had the place to myself and my server, Gabriel took excellent care of me. The space was Costa Rican chic and the meal was fantastic. Would recommend to anyone coming to Tamarindo and looking for a memorable meal
Joseph B — Google review
Loooved my filet. You can tell the beef has been well raised. The octopus seemed out of place with the beans though. Too tart and stand out for my taste..The live band was lovely. They make their way to everyone's tables. This restaurant seems like one of the few more formal ones in the area.
NatFan — Google review
Absolutley excellent food and ambiance. We heard about Seasons from our AirBnB host and were not let down. We had the calimari special, as well as the red snapper. Everything was prepared perfectly. We even got to meet Shlomy himself who was dutifully bussing tables, prepping food, and greeting guests. This is a must visit if you're in Tamarindo

El Mercadito de Tamarindo Food and Cocktail Market is a foodie paradise that brings together a variety of cuisines in one vibrant space. With numerous gourmet eateries offering everything from poke to vegan treats, French pastries, juicy burgers, and pizza, there's something to satisfy every craving. This outdoor food court is perfect for families and budget-friendly too.
This market offers an incredible variety of cuisines - everything from local dishes to Italian, Mexican, Argentinian, American, Asian, and even Venezuelan food. There’s also a cool bar with great music and a laid-back vibe. It’s the perfect spot to hang out and spend the evening with good food and good company!

A Hidden Gem with Great Food and Vibes! We spent an evening at El Mercadito de Tamarindo after an exciting day of ATV touring and meeting up with some friends — and we’re so glad we found this hidden gem! El Mercadito feels like a vibrant food hall with an awesome selection of food vendors offering something for everyone — from Costa Rican, Mexican, Japanese, Argentinian, to American cuisine. Every dish we tried was flavorful and fresh, and the variety made it perfect for our group with different tastes. To top it off, we couldn’t resist dessert — the kids loved their ice cream and shakes, and it was the perfect way to end the night. The atmosphere was fun, relaxed, and family-friendly, with great music and an upbeat vibe. Whether you’re looking for a casual dinner or a fun night out, we highly recommend checking this place out.
Rich V — Google review
Great local place with various food vendors. There’s some cover but no A/C. However, we found it just fine like that. We came here a few times and tried local Costa Rican food (casado), Venezuelan (fresh smoothies and tequeños), crepes, and seafood (fish fillet with salad and tostones). The food is yummy, prices are a bit better than in restaurants but still not cheap even though it’s a food court. Don’t expect much service here, it’s very much self-serve, just like in any other food court. It’s clean and atmospheric with music and greens around you.
Anastasiia — Google review
We stopped by for late night dinner and ended up staying for drinks with the owner of the Mercadito. Fantastic Caipirinhas, fish and shrimp tacos and huge sized chicken wings! We will be back! I also love that they accept everyone not only in the restrooms, but also in general, even Batman!!
Lindsey P — Google review
Great open air food court with reasonable prices. My family enjoyed the ceviche, the best that we had while in Costa Rica. My favorite place in the food court was the steak location, had an excellent ribeye cooked to a proper medium rare. There is also a good ice cream place for dessert or milkshakes. And then the bar has the coldest beer that I was able to get while here. Prices were reasonable and service was fast. There are a few local cats who hang out here too.
David C — Google review
If the few beach-side hotels, this is by far the best. Best location on the beach and centrally located such that everything is within a walking distance of the main strip. In fact it is on the main strip. The breakfast buffet is fabulous. Even though they serve almost the same things every day, there is sufficient variety and the food is delicious. The staff are great and courteous. The beach is long and wide- especially in the morning at low tide Highly recommend for families and couples
Harold K — Google review
What a cool little food court! This place is back off of the main strip, but super accessible. The collection of restaurants is impressive, ranging from gourmet hamburgers to top-notch tacos, hand-rolled sushi to Argentinian top sirloin. Top it all off with ice cream or belly up to the Medusa, a bar with a BOAT in it! By the way, the bartender knows his stuff. This place doesn't really come to life until dinner, which is usually after sunset here. Friendly atmosphere and good music put this over the top, securing their 5-star review. Once you find this food court, you'll want to come back again and again so you can try all they have to offer.

Good Food, but the Price is astonishing. Not that you have much of a choice there tho, so still 4/5.

Italian restaurant
Antichi Sapori Tamarindo, located in Costa Rica, offers authentic homemade Sicilian cuisine. This unpretentious restaurant is run by owners from the southern Italian island and they prepare dishes with utmost care and reverence for ingredients. Antichi Sapori provides a delightful selection of classic pasta and gnocchi dishes, but it is their utilization of fresh seafood, which Costa Rica prides itself on, that truly elevates their offerings to another level.
You must go to this restaurant while in Tamarindo! The owner is absolutely the nicest man and his amazing wife makes all the food. The food was all so delicious. My group had the pistachio gnocchi, pesto gnocchi, seafood linguini, meatball pasta with tiramisu and canoli for dessert. Everything was so tasty. You won't be disappointed. The owner is from Southern Italy. All the food is made fresh to order and can be customized to your liking. The wines are delicious as well. If you like traditional Italian food this is the place to be.
Daniella Y — Google review
What a great little gem of the beaten path in Tamarindo. It's extremely rare for me to visit the same restaurant twice when I'm enjoying time away from home. Hands down the best in the area with freshly made pizza and pasta. This Sicilian family is getting right with their simple yet very yummy options for dine in and/or take out. I originally went to them for pizza, but I got a little jealous when I saw some of the pasta dishes. I realistically had no room, but I wanted more. Came back the next night for pasta, and it too did not disappoint. Don't skip out on the place if you are in the area!
Thomy G — Google review
Oh Em Gee what can I say, from the host to the server the service was spectacular and so genuine. His wife, the Chef is AHHmazing at her craft. The menu is specific to their expertise which I appreciate. We felt so welcomed we barely wanted to leave. The food was amazing. We ordered a few of the specials on the menu and they did not disappoint. We were gifted a few digestives as a Thank you and that put the cherry on the cake!!! We came back another night after eating at a disappointing place and the host was ecstatic to see us. Round two didnt disappoint either. More to come on those pictures.....
Karina C — Google review
My wife and I tried this place because of the great reviews, and it was conveniently close to our hotel. The owner personally waited on us, and he couldn’t have been nicer — super friendly and able to chat in both English and Spanish, which made us feel really welcome. He recommended the spaghetti, so we ordered that along with a supreme pizza. 🍝🍕 Let me tell you, the spaghetti completely blew us away — way better tasting than it looks in the photos. This place is a must-visit, and please take my word when I say skipping the spaghetti would be a big mistake! I think it was about 35 or $40 with the drinks So also very affordable in the area.
Joejoe M — Google review
Amazing experience. The owner was so friendly and attentive, he was a true host. Made us feel so special and welcome. We had the mixed seafood linguini and the vegetarian version of the pistachio gnocchi (subbed bacon for artichokes). Plus he gave us bruschetta for an entree and tiramisu for dessert. The food was amazing, the best Italian food we’ve had in years. It’s pricey (for us Australians) but worth the price in my opinion. A great experience.
Jody W — Google review
All the restaurants we ate at in Tamarindo, and this is the only one I feel compelled to write a review on. My dad is from Sicily and I've been eating this type of food my entire life. This restaurant is one of two places I've ever been to in my adult life where the food tastes like my family's food. The ingredients are real, the recipes obviously home-grown. We loved the food here so much we ended up going twice! It's tucked away in a little shopping center and there are only 6 or 7 tables so a reservation is helpful. Peppe is a fantastic host, interacting with each guest - you can tell he's truly passionate about the food. He takes care of the guests and I believe his wife runs the kitchen. I'm so thankful we found this place and got to experience 2 outstanding dinners while on vacation!
Nicole H — Google review
Authentic Italian gem in Costa Rica! Everything exceeded our expectations with amazing service, fresh and creamy pasta, and dishes that tasted like homemade Italian love. Every bite was a taste of Italy! Highly recommended for a genuine Italian experience in Costa Rica. Let’s not forget the amazing service and attention given to each customer, 5/5 stars!

Restaurant
Agua Salada, which means saltwater in Spanish, is a vibrant and popular restaurant located in Tamarindo. This beachfront establishment offers stunning sunset views and a diverse experience as a wine bar, tropical kitchen, bakery, and live music venue. The cocktails are highly recommended, featuring top-shelf alcohol and fresh fruit ingredients such as the passion fruit-jalapeno margarita. The menu includes ceviche, burgers, and daily specials.
We had an amazing experience at Agua Salada, thanks to our server Lara who made our group, especially my mom on her birthday, feel so special. Her service was warm, thoughtful, and truly 10/10. We loved it so much we came back on our last night! The drinks were delicious, and the fried snapper, aji ceviche, and salted caramel pie were absolutely divine. It’s now our go to place in Tamarindo :)
Steffy F — Google review
I hadn’t been to Agua Salada since 2021 and had been dying to come back. It was 100% worth the wait. Even though it rained, the setting was still beautiful and the atmosphere felt just as vibrant as I remembered. The rain actually added a tropical charm to the evening, making it feel even more special. I dined alone, and the staff made me feel so welcome and comfortable. The service was absolutely top-tier. Manfred and the rest of the team were incredibly attentive, welcoming, and kind. They made the whole experience feel special from start to finish. I ordered the octopus, which was perfectly cooked, and ended the night with a delicious dessert and one of the best passionfruit margaritas I’ve ever had. Seriously… to die for. This spot continues to be one of my favorite places in Tamarindo. Don’t skip it!

Wonderful food and atmosphere. The service was outstanding. Everyone was very friendly. We love that we could walk out to the beach for sunset photos and walk back. Great for large groups. Definitely try the shrimp risotto and the ceviche appetizer.

My extended family hosted a birthday celebration for 60+ people at Agua Salada, and cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. 1. Food: Buffet for such a large party was excellent. Was plentiful and the quality was amazing! 2. Drinks: Bartenders were quick and friendly, even during the party, the servers was running around always ready to take empty glasses and take new drink orders, no trip to the bar necessary. 3. Service: Impeccable. We had tents in case of rain, and when it started to drizzle, servers opened umbrellas and walked people back and forth from the tent to the bar. Servers, cooks, management... everyone was so friendly and wanted to join the party! We even went here for takeout food the day before the large party and were extremely happy with everything, you wont be disappointed. Family run business. Go here when in Tamarindo.

We rented out Aqua Salada for a 60+ private event and it was absolutely fantastic! The staff was incredible, food tasty, and atmosphere perfect. Everything was seamlessly coordinated and every one of our requests were matched. From cocktail hour to dancing, the staff ensured our group had the most fantastic time. I would recommend Agua Salada for your next event in Tamarindo or for a brunch /dinner stop.

Jas was an awesome server and the food was delicious! We loved the pan con tomate for the appetizer and the fish sandwich was wonderful! The ambiance with the seats by the ocean was refreshing! Dessert hasn’t arrived yet but came highly recommended so we are looking forward to it!

One of the most sophisticated meals I’ve had in Costa Rica. Glen, Mumford, and Dylan provided exceptional service throughout my visit and I enjoyed the chic and laid back atmosphere. Add in convenient parking and you pretty much have it all. Bravo!

Great beachfront restaurant! Very good service, our waiter was very friendly and attentive. The venue is mostly wood, and is decorated with hanging lights - lovely. We started with Margaritas - very well made! For dinner, we ordered the house Burger - very tasty, and the Grilled Octopus - smoky and flavorful, absolutely delicious! Absolutely recommended!

Patagonia Argentinian Grill & Restaurant, also known as La Patagonia, is a cozy eatery located in front of El Mercadito. While they don't have a regular happy hour, they do offer 2-for-1 margarita specials that run all afternoon.
It was one of the best experiences that we’ve had in Costa Rica. Cannot say enough good things about this place. Foot and atmosphere and staff were on the highest level available. I heard steaks are a must try, but it was too late for a red meat so we didn’t but everything that we tried was top-notch.! Will definitely recommend and it’s a must see here.
Tihomir T — Google review
This restaurant was grand! The restaurant is not too big and provides fans to help with airflow. The drinks were great and the food was better! The seafood tasted very fresh, and the portions were a nice size. The servers also did a nice job. Be sure to try this place out when you are in Tamarindo!
Tessa S — Google review
We had heard great things about this place and were not disappointed. Pricey - yes. Worth event cent - absolutely! My daughter and I both had a nice glass of Malbec and my husband had a dark and stormy. We each had a steak - mini skirt, ribeye, and the tenderloin with Gorgonzola. We rarely order steak out because we’re often disappointed in the cook or flavor, but all were cooked to perfection (medium-rare for us) with so much flavor. We also substituted mashed for the Argentinian potatoes - but wished we had gotten one serving because they looked good on the neighbors plate. I didn’t want to eat the bread they bring at the beginning because I was saving room for the steak, but it was so good I couldn’t help myself. Atmosphere was so nice and our service was outstanding - highly recommend!

We had an amazing dining experience at Patagonia in Tamarindo! From the moment we sat down, the service was warm and welcoming—Sara, our server, was absolutely lovely and attentive throughout the evening. The meal started with delicious complimentary warm bread and chimichurri, which set the tone perfectly. We shared a fresh Caesar salad, followed by incredible handmade pasta that was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. To top it all off, we had a decadent apple caramel crepe with ice cream for dessert—truly the perfect ending. Every dish was prepared with care and tasted fantastic. Highly recommend Patagonia for anyone looking for a memorable meal in Tamarindo!

An absolute must-try spot in Tamarindo! Especially, if you love eating quality meat. On the expensive side, but SO worth it. Rustic, mostly wood-based interior, fantastic service, friendly and attentive waiters, and great food! Beers are cold, cocktails are well-made. I ordered a couple of Aperol Spritz, delicious. The Ojo de Bife (ribeye) was spectacular. Taste, texture, cooked medium-rare to my liking…amazing. The best ribeye I have eaten in Costa Rica. The Empanadas…wow. Ordered one with Beef and one with Spinach & Mozzarella…absolutely scrumptious! Crunchy exterior, soft interior, crumbles at the bite, and reveals unmatched flavor. Absolutely recommended! Five stars! We’ll be back, for sure!
Walter A — Google review
One of the better restaurants we tried in Tamarindo. Food portions were really large and decent price. Tried each of the empanadas and spinach and cheese were the best. Schnitzel (steak or chicken) was huge.
Eric P — Google review
The pretty good service could not make up for one of the WORST meals I’ve had in my lifetime. I am finishing up my trip, and I was so excited to come here and splurge on a meal, but it was a mistake! I am sure the other options are good, but DO NOT COME HERE IF VEGETARIAN. What awaits is disappointment and unseasoned food. Worst part was I ended up spending about $30 on 6 tater tot sized cheese/zucchini balls and a dry salad; that could’ve been two actual meals elsewhere. I couldn’t even make it through the whole meal, honestly wouldn’t feed this food to the stray dogs. I’m a broke college student and this was by far the most expensive meal I’ve gotten, and it’s so disappointing how bad it was the best part was the bread :(

Nordico Coffee House, located in Tamarindo, is a laptop-friendly cafe with a minimalist Nordic design and a relaxed atmosphere. It offers a variety of artisanal coffee, specialty drinks, and delicious breakfast options. The cafe is known for its stable WiFi, cool temperatures, and favorite items like acai bowls and smoothies. Nordico brews everything from Americanos to cold-brew lattes and ice cream-infused affogatos.
Was amazing experience at this coffee shop. The view is unmatched. It overseas the three roads that get together right in front of it and all the action is happening in front of it. Staff was super friendly and the options for coffees are almost indefinable. Wi-Fi sucks a little bit, but can go around. A lot of gluten-free options. Super chill place.

Great place to eat a traditional Costa Rican breakfast. Western options also available. Does offer cocktails and speciality coffees. Staff all speak English really well and are very kind and friendly. There is an inside and outside seating . The patio lets you have a nice view of the city. Good was delicious . I ate here at least 5x while in Tamarindo.

This little cafe in Tamarindo is one of the few where you can find outdoor seating on the terrace, and indoor seating with AC. The decor is classic coffee shop with Pura Vida vibes. There is a lot of seating so you’ll never have to worry about finding space to enjoy your meal or work on your computer. The menu isn’t exceptional, but there is something for everyone—I really like the açaí bowls and breakfast menu. They have a great selection of coffees which is the most important of all! If you are looking to work here, they have great WiFi but it does get noisy so keep that in mind if you have meetings. It’s a great cafe and definitely recommend a visit!

Don’t miss this gem of a coffee shop on the second story of the Tamarindo busy strip. It has a great view for sitting outside people watching or getting stay inside for shade and quality air conditioning. Best coffee in town and the consistency stayed the whole vacation. Not to mention the food is so fresh with great portion sizes. The staff are all polite and in great spirits.

Pour over coffee is great! Dylan made a good recommendation between Peabody and black honey. The dessert was okay. I wish they have cakes. But overall, good place for coffee!
Bernice D — Google review
Nordico has become my go-to spot during my extended stay in Tamarindo. Over the past several weeks, I've found myself returning again and again - and for good reason! The coffee here is consistently excellent, and what I really appreciate about the staff is how intuitive they are about their customers' needs. They're incredibly friendly and welcoming, but they also know when to give you space to work or just enjoy your coffee in peace. The second-floor setup is perfect - you can choose between the air-conditioned interior when you need a break from the humidity and want to get some work done (the WiFi is reliable!) or grab a seat on the balcony for some great people-watching while overlooking the main square below. There's something really enjoyable about sipping your coffee and watching Tamarindo come to life from this vantage point. Whether you're looking for a quick caffeine fix or a comfortable spot to spend a few hours, Nordico delivers on both the quality and atmosphere. It's clear why so many locals and visitors alike keep coming back. Highly recommended!

I had such a great experience at Nordico in Tamarindo today thanks to Dylan, the barista. He was incredibly welcoming, took the time to explain the different kinds of drip coffee, and made me feel right at home. Our conversation was a pleasure, and his kindness and professionalism really stood out. I’ll definitely be coming back — thank you, Dylan! And they allow your pups on the outdoor balcony!

Owned by the talented French artisan Evelyn, this bakery is renowned for its exceptional French baguettes and delightful croissants that are perfectly flaky. The selection here goes beyond just bread; their chocolate bread and chicken curry sandwiches are also crowd favorites. We enjoyed delicious dark chocolate pastries several times. We went back probably three times. They look like they had other sandwiches that might be good but we did not try any.

Cute Italian style eatery. The BEST Italian coffee in Tamarindo. The fresh bread is amazing as is the pastries and sandwiches. I almost don’t want to tell you about the Chocolate Almond Croissant because when they sell out for the day ITS OVER. The baked goods are so delicious people will call and reserve when they are on the way to make sure they don’t miss out!!! They have a little parking lot right out front that is free so parking is convenient. Make sure to check out the Instagram for more photos.

This bakery is an absolute gem! The selection of freshly baked breads, croissants, and baguettes is outstanding. Everything is made with such care and quality – you can really taste the difference! The croissants are perfectly flaky, and the bread is always fresh and delicious. Whether you’re grabbing a quick snack or picking up a loaf for the day, this place never disappoints. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves authentic, freshly baked treats!

A great little bakery that started to accept credit card now. The focaccia was good and were it’s croissants. The parking lot in general is pretty open, except for today when the farmers market was in session so there were a lot of non-plaza customers parking illegally in the lot. I had a real difficult time backing out of the lot after picking up our breads. It closes on Sundays and Mondays.

Fantastic Italian bakery. The focaccia was amazing—perfectly baked with a great texture and flavor. The cappuccino was excellent as well, rich and smooth. On top of that, the lady working there was wonderful—super friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area.

Recommended to try from a local. We went for a coffee and breakfast. Unfortunately they were only serving the pastries when we first arrived. I tried a chocolate croissant with a coffee. It was a soft style chocolate and very soft croissant. It was unique and delicious. The coffee was Italian style and GREAT. When breakfast started to get served it did look and smell very good. I hope to return for a PIZZA!! Owner was very engaging and nice to speak with!! The outdoor seating area is a great place to chill and relax with your coffee or meal.

Masa Madre was honestly my favorite place in Tamarindo. First of all, the owner and every person who works there, are fantastic. It felt like I was eating at a friend’s house. The food and coffee are delicious. The croissants, fresh bread, and all the baked goods were perfect. I also had avocado toast with eggs for breakfast one day, a big, fresh salad with chicken for lunch another day, and multiple pieces of pizza for dinner during the Tamarindo night market. All soooo good. The owner is from Italy and everything tastes authentically Italian. I especially loved the pesto. I also saw that they offer private chef services. That would be a treat! Don’t miss this beautiful place, off the beaten path, with wonderful people. Thanks for taking care of me, Masa Madre.

Service was wonderful, but the coffee was too sweet. We ended up tossing them and grabbing a cup down the street. Recommend getting a black coffee or cold brew if you don’t like a lot of sugar. Location and atmosphere were lovely.

Visiting Tamarindo, we were in search of bread for a meal we were cooking at home. Went to Masa Madre - they baked the bread and had it ready for us the next day. The biggest standout, they suggested they would be willing to meet us after hours to meet our day's time constraints. When we got there, they offered an additional loaf on them. Great break, and great service!
Billy B — Google review
Masa Madre is exquisite. A small place just off the main road of Tamarindo, it boasts a gorgeous patio populated with greenery and I ate some of the best pesto I've ever had. The pizza is divine, the service excellent, and the craft beer from Brothers of Ale is fantastico. Can't wait to visit again!
K D — Google review
We asked the guys at Pimiento Verde where we could find a great loaf of bread and they sent us here.. I am so glad we found this place!! Honestly I’ve had some of the best bread I’ve ever had at Masa Madre.. The owner and his bakers are super knowledgeable and I enjoy the conversations I have in this shop every time I go.. You have to place your order a few days in advance because their bread is made fresh for you.. Just choose the bread you want (my favorite is rosemary & oregano sourdough) and get your name on their calendar.. I always grab a few croissants or whatever pastries they have left when I pick up my order.. I haven’t tried their quiche yet but they look delicious.. They don’t have any gluten free options here, so just be aware of that.. They also carry some serious local coffee beans and serve espressos while you hang out.. Seriously I can’t recommend this place more..

Sol Bakery is a newly established bakery in Tamarindo that has gained popularity since its opening after the pandemic. This European-style cafe offers a wide range of delectable pastries, egg dishes, and sandwiches for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. It is an excellent choice if you're seeking something distinctive and flavorful to eat while in Tamarindo.
Sol Bakery was a delightful surprise...and easily one of my favorite food finds in Costa Rica. It’s a small, no-frills bakery, and yes, it was definitely warm inside the day we visited, but oh my goodness was it worth it. The almond croissant I had was truly out of this world; crispy, buttery, and perfectly filled. I’ve traveled through Europe and had a lot of pastries, but this one might just take the cake (or croissant?). The iced coffee was refreshing and served with a cute little flower that made me smile. We tried a few other pastries and were equally impressed. I only wish we had found this place earlier in our trip because I would’ve gone back every morning. A must-visit if you’re anywhere nearby!
Angela C — Google review
I wish I had more time in Tamarindo so I could come by this spot more. Has everything you could ask for in a bakery and cafe. Pastries are so delicious - the cinnamon bun may look overly decadent but it is SO good. The dulce de leche croissant is also a killer, I wish I could get that back in NYC. The quiche was super dense and delicious. Their iced vanilla matcha latte - on point! Their beef tacos are super juicy, I also really liked the shrimp tacos. They're always super friendly and there's plenty of seating. Loved coming here after a good surf to refuel.
Shirley L — Google review
We tried 6 different baked goods and they were all delicious! Highly recommend! If you see something you want, better get it because they did sell out of cinnamon rolls the first day that we went. The cookie was perfectly soft on the inside. The mud pie was soooo good! Same with the dulce de leche croissant 🤌😋

Highly recommend for taco Tuesday, when all tacos are $3 along with drink specials. Tacos are generously filled and delicious. Cozy, intimate outdoor space, with live music on our visit. Worth noting the only food served on taco Tuesday menu is tacos and chips and guac.

We ordered the French toast and the omlette, both delicious. The house made ice tea was delicious! And we saw the Bakery bring out fresh chocolate crossiants and were able to grab a warm one, it was huge and perfectly flaky!

Just okay... Completely acceptable but kinda bland. The fancy cones look amazing but are kinda stale and impractical. The ice cream was just okay also. Not bad, and with the heat and humidity, you could do worse, but just not spectacular

I live 200m away and my weekly to bi-weekly go-to are the yogurt and Açai bowls large with almonds/coconut/chia and chocolate protein in the Açai. The fruit is refreshing with cold açai mix. The steak wrap is tasty and a good source of protein. Don't expect to be kissing anyone after, the onions are delicious but stinky. Edit: Google corrected me. This place is absolutely amazing. We walked in, tried at least half of the flavors and all of them were amazing. My boyfriend said the cinnamon felt a bit icy, but everything else was incredible. I had the passion fruit and pineapple basil, both had amazing flavor, but the latter was especially tasty. Perfect blend of flavors and felt super creamy especially for a water based gelato. I also sampled the chocolate (incredible - I regret not getting it!) and watermelon (yummy as well) and the mint chocolate looked to die for, but I was feeling something fruity. Really disappointing experience. We had just seen the good ratings but didn't know what to expect. We got a strawberry ice cream cup and a chocolate chip vanilla ice cream sandwich. Both were prepackaged and taken directly from a freezer. The strawberry ice cream cup was fine. The chocolate chip vanilla ice cream sandwich was very poor with salty, cracker-like cookies that were too hard and made eating the sandwich difficult without spilling ice cream. Not good value at 2000 colones each.

Most expensive ice cream I've ever tried. Ask for the price before or they will overprice it as they wish. One chocolate scoop ₡3000 or that's what they charged me. We ordered three Ice Cream and they asked ₡11.000 ($17) Just cash no credit card. Chocolate is very good. Watermelon with mint to much ice. Vanilla standard nothing to mention.

The choco nut fudgesicle was the most amazing vegan gelato I have had! Owners are also super friendly. Wish we had something like this back in the US!

Absolutely amazing place! I had ceremonial cacao and vanilla+cashew and worth the way down there. Kamu gives her super touch to local ingredients and that become in magic together. Definitely a place to visit! Will come back ❤️

Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Avellanas, SURF HUB Gelato & Coffee is a delightful stop for anyone seeking a sweet treat after a day of surfing. This charming little gem offers an array of mouthwatering gelato flavors that are sure to please every palate. The welcoming owners create a warm atmosphere, making visitors feel right at home as they sample delicious options like the standout maracuya (passion fruit) flavor.
We had two coffee gelatos and it was amazing. The coffee flavor was fantastic, with whole coffee beans included for an extra bit of excellent coffee flavor. The small shop is easy to miss but well worth the stop.

So delicious! The gelato is amazing and we met Jorgelina, one of the owners, and had such a sweet and welcoming conversation. Her son, Noah, had been our son’s surf coach earlier in the day. A true gem—everyone should stop by!

Barney is a true gem. The Gelato is great too! Enjoy the tunes bro! 🤙🏼

Best gelato I've ever had. The owners and staff are hospitable and lovely. One of the owners (Jorgelina) is simply one of the kindest people I've ever met. She's also a fantastic professional photographer, incase you ever need one. 😜 Thank you for the great service and your kindness. Pura Vidaaaaa! - Maha

A true hidden gem!!! If you're ever even remotely close to Avellanas then you need to stop by Surf Hub to get some gelato. The owners are super welcoming and great at suggestions. I brought a party of 11 there on a whim and they handled us with ease. Between all of us we tried every flavor they had on display and everyone loved it! Personally the maracuyá (passion fruit) was some of the best I've ever had. We will definitely be making Surf Hub a regular stop every time we're in town!

Gelato was good. But gave USD and got back expired Costa Rican colons that we can’t spend anywhere.

Ice cream shop
Dolce Vita Tamarindo is a family-owned restaurant in Quepos known for its delicious lasagna and pizza. It's considered a local treasure, offering homemade gelato that keeps customers coming back almost every night after dinner. The friendly service adds to the charm of this place, where you can enjoy your treats on benches or in the nearby cute plaza.
I got a scoop of pineapple and mango ice cream. Delicious. The pink cone is cute. I don’t remember how much it cost. But it’s vacation, pura vida. In this weather melt fast😭😭😭 The next day I got the mint chocolate ice cream. It’s just unfortunate that due to the weather, it’s already partially melted, and melts quickly in the cone
Olesya — Google review
Probably one of the best tasting Italian style ice cream we’ve ever had but be warned the portion sizes are incredibly small and the cost is ridiculously high. But still worth a try.
Dave E — Google review
can’t believe how people miss this gelato shop — it’s truly a hidden gem! Everything here is amazing: the flavors, the experience, and especially Marco. On my first night, my scoop of gelato fell on the ground, and Marco gave me a brand new one with a big smile! Of course, I came back every single day after that during my trip — and each visit was just as wonderful. This is gelato at the level of Italy (if not better!). Highly recommend the coconut and vanilla flavors!
Shir K — Google review
Some of the best gelato I’ve had outside of Europe. The chocolate, strawberry, and pistachio are all amazing. I see people complaining about the price (Tamarindo has US prices, of course) and I felt the portions were adequate! Pay $1 for the two scoops if you feel like one isn’t enough.
Ashley M — Google review
Dolce Vita is my favorite gelato spot in Tamarindo! I definitely recommend the flavors Snickers, Oreo, mascarpone, and Churchill. The owner is professional, kind, and generous. This is always one of the first places I go to when I’m back in the area. I don’t get gelato anywhere else because I’ve tried them all, and this is by far the best!
Hillary S — Google review
If you're in search of a little slice of heaven, look no further than La Dolce Vita! This enchanting ice cream paradise is an absolute must-visit for all dessert enthusiasts. From the moment you step foot inside, you're greeted by the delightful ambiance. The elegant decor, charming seating area, and the tantalizing aroma of freshly made gelato create a truly immersive experience. But it's the ice cream itself that steals the show. La Dolce Vita boasts a mouthwatering selection of authentic Italian flavors that will make your taste buds dance with joy. Each scoop is a work of art, meticulously handcrafted with love and passion by their skilled gelato artisans. Whether you're a fan of classic favorites or adventurous combinations, they have a flavor to suit every craving. What truly sets La Dolce Vita apart is the quality of their ingredients. You can taste the difference in every spoonful. They use only the freshest and finest ingredients, sourced locally and from the heart of Italy. It's this commitment to excellence that ensures each bite is an explosion of pure bliss. 100% the best ice cream in tamarindo

We ordered 3 times and the same order and still didn't get the correct order. Vanilla is not lemon. Pineapple is not peanut butter. They even repeated it to us, pointed at it and still never got it correct. I do NOT recommend.
