Amber Cove Cruise Port is a vibrant tourist destination with a lively pool area featuring a swim-up bar, loungers, and cabanas. The port offers an array of exciting shore excursions and adventures such as waterfall experiences, city tours, ATV quad tours, river tubing, zip-lining, hiking, and horseback riding. With historical significance dating back to Christopher Columbus' arrival in 1493, the area boasts stunning views of Mount Isabel de Torres.
It’s a decent cruise port to stop at. It’s a dock port which makes it nice. Lot of tourist shopping at the port. Taxi service is good. Several good restaurants to eat local food. Relaxed atmosphere on the island. For a cruise day stop it’s fun but can’t see staying more than half a day. Island is very small.
Peter S — Google review
I'm not real big on excursions. I love chilling at the ports, shopping, or listening to the island sounds of a local musician or vibing by the pool as the DJ spins the tunes. Amber Cove is one of my favorite ports as it offers all of the above with a cute little cafe that serves great deserts and amazing coffee. I literally can spend all day there. I highly recommend a cruise that stops at Amber Cove. You won't be disappointed.
Yvette W — Google review
Beautiful spot and great shops. Loved my experience at the fish spa. There was great dj music, drinks, Waterpark and history about the amber. I took a private taxi into the city. Awesome experience!
Sherry B — Google review
Carnival Cruise docked here. Outside the cruise, you will only find Carnival's ship excursions, and you can pay for them with your key card. No outside vendors. We paid for a 4-hour city tour and a 2-hour beach visit: $40 per adult and $30 for kids. It was a nice tour with a beautiful beach. There were free chairs and umbrellas at the beach. Clean toilets, showers and a restaurant.
Aura's E — Google review
Great port and location with plenty of stores and services. Port can accommodate the larger classes of ships. Fun walking trails that are free. Plenty of wildlife such as birds and lizards around to observe.
Tom N — Google review
Great cruise port stop. Even better if you wait and do a local city tour and beach stop to Puerto Plata! We took a charter Bus for about $35pp. Tour is about 4hrs.

Amber Cove, Dominican Republic was so much fun! We found this local “Taxi” however, it was much more! He was our driver for the day and took us all over the local areas and downtown. He gave us a private guided tour visited many places in the DR such as a coffee maker, Central Park, a beautiful church, Chocolate Factory, Saint Felipe Fort, and ended with cocktails and lunch on the beach!

Amber Cove gave me the best experiences I could have had for my 1st time ziplining and going down waterfalls! There was some beautiful scenery for sure!

Ocean World Adventure Park in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic is a vibrant attraction offering various animal encounters such as swimming with sharks and dolphins. The north coast area also provides numerous activities like fishing, snorkeling, diving, surfing, golfing at Playa Dorada, and more. Visitors can enjoy go-karting at Fun City or explore the historic district of Puerto Plata with its Victorian pink alleyway and Umbrella Street.
I can not say enough good things about this place! We booked this excursion when I was on a cruise with Carnival, and we spent the day at this park. It was absolutely beautiful. There are so many things to do for children little and older. There is a pool, a lagoon, a water obstacle course, shows featuring sharks seals dolphins and you can even snorkel with fish, you can swim with dolphins. The opportunities are endless not to mention the buffet was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this!! They also get amazing photos and videos of whatever encounter you do! Enjoy!!! Sorry for the crazy sentences i am just excited to share! lol

Excellent experience at Ocean World Adventure Park! Amazing Staff in every area (shout out Robin Santos with Guest Services and Yann with the Dolphin Swim). Park is well-maintained, clean and beautiful all around. The Dolphin Swim was super fun, interactive and overall, great experience! I would definitely visit again anytime. Great people, tasty food, nice ambience and spectacular views.

Great time all around. Do the experiences! Yes they cost a bit, but well worth it. And get the pictures too. Again, yes they are expensive but those are awesome memories. Staff was awesome and very friendly, helpful, funny, and personable. Skip the buffet though, totally not worth it. Definitely recommend the dolphin and sea lion experience.
Andrew B — Google review
There was a little misunderstanding at the reception — my husband thought that by paying for the dolphin encounter he would be able to take photos of us, but it turned out that phones were not allowed in the area at all. He was very upset, and the situation could have completely ruined our visit. Thankfully, supervisor Juan L. Rojas stepped in and handled everything with true professionalism, patience, and a sincere smile. Juan L. Rojas turned what could have been a disappointing experience into one of the highlights of our trip. He is a true professional who knows exactly how to treat guests and resolve issues with grace and respect. This is the kind of attitude that makes people want to come back again and again. Thanks to him, we left with wonderful memories, amazing photos, and a deep appreciation for the way he handled the situation. He truly deserves recognition and a well-earned bonus! 🌟

Great place to go if you are in Puarto Plata, just 10min away with taxi from Taino Bay. A bit expensive, if you are coming here as a cruise passenger. Anyhow nice place to relax by man made beach, or use the pools. Day pass includes lunch.
Arnolds H — Google review
Fantastic experience. Martin was a great guide and the trainers were knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and made the experiences so much fun. Dolphins, sea lions, sharks, birds and capybara!
Michelle D — Google review
Wow, wow, wow! Fantastic place play and to eat. The food was absolutely top-notch! The buffet is one time through, so fill up the plates! The rice amazing, veggies, fruit...wow! If you want to swim with dolphins, sting rays, sharks, snorkeling with tropical fish, or play at the private beach or water slides! You can also feed the birds and capybara's! So fun, safe, and delicious food and drinks. Johanny was absolutely amazing and so helpful, definitely sit in his section for vip treatment 🥰 The staff is so friendly while also keeping the little ones safe. Highly recommend! They have lockers and showers as well!

The Puerto Plata Cable Car, also known as Teleferico, is the only one of its kind in the Caribbean. It offers a scenic 15-minute ride to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres, where visitors can explore botanical gardens and visit the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. From this vantage point, at 2,600 feet above sea level, guests can take in breathtaking panoramic views of Puerto Plata city and its coastline stretching over 100 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean.
Definitely worth a visit. We visited it during a Cruise stop. Do to heavy traffic on route and long line for the Cable Cars, could not plan a lot of visits during our stop but glad we made this one. Beautiful views from the top.
T S — Google review
THIS CABLE CAR SERVICE IS CLOSED. Don’t know why it still says it is opened on Google Maps. The people there told that it will not be operational for the next 2.5 years. There is bus service that takes you to the mountains which cost us around 20 USD for one person. The ride is good but you won’t get much time to spend on the mountain near the statue. The price of the souvenir was little high in the stores near the statue.
Neby V — Google review
The place is beautiful, but beware of the famous Tour guides, they tell they work for the park and blah blah, they have uniforms and everything but theyxare not employees they are locals looking to make and extra buck. The machine is been down for a long time. Honestly google the mountain for directions no need of a tour guide. They see you as a tourist and they jacked up the prices. Do not buy in the souvenirs stores they are not worth it.
Neil G — Google review
Still closed. I went to a tourist spot and asked the teller. She advised it’s been closed a year because people don’t want to pay to use the cable car. She said probably for two more years. Her English was good and my Spanish is dreadful but I relayed on what I was told. I drove up to the gate at about 3pm on a Wednesday and took the below photo.
Ebony E — Google review
Nice affordable activity to do with your family. Once at the top, there is a spectacular view and you can walk along the paths through the gardens and to the caves and lagoon. I gave 4 stars because the directions to these sites are really not very specific. It took us a while and many wrong turns before we got to the caves 🙃🙃🙃
Murielle V — Google review
Views are amazing if you are driving a rental or coming you dont need any person in a green polo taking you up. You are good with just taking yourself up. At the top there is a hike on the top that takes you around the area to show you the water falls, typical Dominican house of the past, and natural areas as well. Also the shops at the top way over charge like 20+ dollars for things that are worth 3 dollars else where. Always bargain.
Mateo R — Google review
Amazing ride to top! Beautiful tropical area with lots of paths, a traditional kitchen, pond, and observation areas. We spent 2.5 hours exploring the area. A lot cheaper to buy tickets on-site versus with a tour.
Geoff B — Google review
Nice cable car ride to high peak where Puerto Plata city and ocean can be seen. Beautiful walk to see gardens. Vendors thought are slick, so be careful. Price is $10 US per person.

Taíno Bay Cruise Port

Taíno Bay Cruise Port, located in the heart of San Felipe near the old ship port, has become a popular destination for cruise ship passengers. The port offers easy access to General Gregorio Luperon Avenue and is surrounded by numerous restaurants and shops offering duty-free goods. While some construction standards may seem lax, the area provides a tropical paradise for tourists with friendly staff and amenities such as a pool and beach area.
Since our last visit to DR ... decades ago ... to find Taino Bay immediately after docking in Puerto Plata was definitely a delightful surprise! This area felt like we were poolside at an all-inclusive resort (which course the drinks were not included but the prices were reasonable and there was poolside service!). There was choices of the usual resort style party pool with blasting tunes and dancers or quiet cabanas just a short walk away. Will definitely return when porting in the DR again!
D D — Google review
All a bit contrived and manufactured for me, it really is a 'made for' the cruise terminal and cruise guests, not really the real Puerto Plata or the Dominican Republic. Yes it's all very clean, lots of tourist boutiques, bars and restaurants but it's not the real Dominican Republic. The whole area is enclosed by large fences, and unlike the other islands that we visited on our Norwegian Cruise Lines cruise (not that we'd ever go with NCL again) you can't freely walk out into the local area and town, unless you're going on an organised tour. When we go on holiday and visit a new country, a new city or region, we like to see 👀 the local area, taste the local food, drink the local wine or enjoy a local beer, see local people and, if only for a day, see what life is like locally - we just didn't get to see any of that here. Yes it's very clean, the level of services are good but we could have been anywhere, at any theme park anywhere else in the world. It really felt like a Disney or Warner Bros theme park. But that's just my perception. Is it somewhere we'd return or visit again? We'll not the cruise terminal or port, but yes the Dominican Republic, we saw very little but what we saw was just enough to wet our appetite. Level 10 Google reviewer with over 1,200 reviews with 2 million views plus 14,000 photos with more than 60 million views and still going strong 💪. Check out my other reviews 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Taino Bay was a nice relaxing location to stop at and enjoy the scenic port and the different shops, eateries and beautiful beaches. Everyone were very welcoming and enjoy you spending money at there different businesses They have a large variety of gifts and other things to choose from and also a duty free shop

Taino Bay is absolutely breathtaking, a tropical paradise that blends natural beauty with vibrant culture. The turquoise waters sparkle under the sun, perfectly matched by soft sandy beaches and lush greenery. Its stunning views create a peaceful escape, while the port itself is beautifully designed, welcoming, and filled with charm. Whether relaxing by the shore or exploring the scenic surroundings, Taino Bay captures the essence of Caribbean beauty, making every moment there feel unforgettable.
Ezekiel G — Google review
We visited Taino Bay on our Virgin Voyages cruise and were immediately greeted by the warmth and hospitality of the people of Puerto Plata. From the moment we stepped off the ship, we were met with big smiles, lively dancers, and a truly festive atmosphere. Yes, there are locals offering excursions, but they’re very respectful and will politely move along if you’re not interested, which made the experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. Taino Bay itself is huge and conveniently located right at the pier, so you don’t have to walk far at all. The port area offers so much to do: bars, shops, swimming pools, a lazy river, and even a monkey and bird exhibit (with a small extra fee). It feels more like a resort than just a port stop! The staff throughout the port were attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we had a great time. The drinks were fantastic, highly recommend the fresh pineapple piña coladas and coconuts for a true tropical treat. All in all, Taino Bay was one of our favorite stops. Beautiful setting, excellent amenities, and genuine hospitality. We had an amazing time and would love to come back!
Natalie G — Google review
We came to Taino Bay through a Norwegian Cruise Line cruise. We got off the boat, and I saw the Taino Bay sign and a couple of others later down the road. This one had a couple of indigenous figures next to it. The area is very beautiful, as you'll see in the pictures. Taino Bay was full of stores and smiling staff at each store, not to mention the pool in the middle of the facility. It was a real nice area to be in.
DraMatik G — Google review
Taino Bay Cruise Port is a nice hub of different activities to do coming off of a cruise ship. It's the main meeting place for excursions, but you can book ones here as well, do some lazy river, drinks, eat (I recommend Cantina Latina), and of course shop.

"Chris & Mady's" is a beachfront restaurant in Puerto Plata that offers a relaxing atmosphere and delicious food. The homemade spicy sauce adds an extra kick to the dishes, and the breakfast sandwich is particularly delightful. The staff is friendly and informative about the area, making it a great place to visit multiple times. Additionally, they offer great steak at reasonable prices and are known for their fresh, well-seasoned dishes.
Came here for lunch and was not disappointed! Food was delicious and the atmosphere was laid back and welcoming! Excellent service!

Oh man, this place was such a gem. We had mojitos, chicken burrito, beef burrito, cajun sea bass, shrimp cocktail, chicken milanesa, beef filet, and garlic bread. All were phenomenal. Service was a bit slow, but we came during a slow time and the wait was 100% worth it. We haven’t had such good food collectively in a long time. The views are amazing and the staff is great. Thanks so much for making our first meal in the DR such a great one. You set the bar high!

Everything was good and the service was great. I had the sea bass player and the hubs had the chicken curry which was delicious! Very laid back relaxing. AND super dog friendly which was a huge plus! The Paloma was on point!

We had dinner there and the restaurant was practically empty. It still took over an hour for the food to be served but it was great. Their homemade spicy sauce as they told us was real spicy and we didn't indulge. It is right on the beach so it is very windy there which was not too comfortable. Like many places in Puerto Plata, they do not take cash and we were only told at the end of our meal so my partner had to leave me there and go find an ATM to withdraw some cash.

My husband had Cajun Chicken. I had Cajun sea bass. Best meal we've had in a long time. Service was impeccable and very friendly. The whole meal was delicious right from the salad to the coffee. We were determined that we'd have all our dinners there, unfortunately we had to go home early and never got back there. I highly recommend Chris and Mandy's.

Amparo's Deli is a pleasantly surprising establishment located conveniently in the central part of Puerto Plata. Situated just one street away from the central park, it boasts an ideal location. Operating exclusively after 5:00pm, this eatery offers a delectable array of food that is not only enticing but also affordably priced.
Went back again, they have expanded their menu. They have the sandwich I use to eat years, years ago. They are so good and the Hamburger is full of flavor. IF you are going to be in the area, you have to stop by for some delicious authentic food. The place has grown beautifully. Is nice, and comfortable in the center of Puerto Plata. Seatdown, eat, rest or grab and go continue your walk through the city. Enjoy and Hi from Savannah, GA

Pretty good cheese empanadas and quipes with a chipotle mayo like sauce on the side. Had it in the afternoon so unfortunately they weren’t fresh. Can imagine them being a lot better when they are just prepared. Chinola juice was very refreshing.

What a surprise place is this. Located in the central area of Puerto Plata, right one street down their central park, so, it is very well located. Open only after 5:00pm. The variety of delicious food is very attractive and it is very cheap also. There are few tables and chairs to seat down, so big group will have difficult to stay in, but this is not a big deal since you can just buy and take with you when you keep walking to the area. The staff is very cordially and friendly.

Isabel de Torres National Park is a lush and beautiful mountain park in Puerto Plata, offering stunning views of the city. Visitors can reach the mountaintop via a cable car or hiking trails to explore its botanical garden with over 2,000 native plant species. The park is also home to picturesque waterfalls and diverse bird species. It's a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of Puerto Plata and immerse yourself in nature.
We went for the first time and were lucky to see the Christ the Redeemer without any fog. You need a powerful vehicle to make the climb, but once you’re up there, you’ll enjoy it—it’s incredible. Surprisingly, no one talks about the huge garden behind it, which was spectacular. We really enjoyed it, and the staff’s attention and explanations were excellent and professional. Best of all, it was free.
Alexander L — Google review
Beautiful spot. I believe you need to drive up now while the cable car is being replaced. Good hiking and walking paths at the top. It feels like a whole other planet up there.
Aaron P — Google review
This is such a beautiful place and a terrific site to see if you're in Puerto Plata. The teleférico wasn't working while we were there (I think it's been under repairs for a while now) but it's worth the drive. But you might need a four wheel drive, the road is so so steep going up there the car barely made it and we were in a Honda CRV. Once there there is, of course, a gift shop and some nicer bathrooms too. There are paths all over the mountain through the gardens and the plants are really beautiful. There were butterflies and birds and the temperature is cool with a great breeze. The view from the top is great and the statue is also a good thing to see. The Casita Típico, or traditional house is pretty authentic and great to see. There's even a tiny cave and pavilion and lots of seating. We had a great time and would recommend the excursion!
Michelle M — Google review

Overall 5/5* After several days in DR - we had a wonderful trip towards the national park. It was amazing how relaxed the atmosphere was on top. Great refreshing weather condition as well as … silence. Take your time to stroll around in the park. I would plan 1-2 hours, that’s enough. Recommended
Stefan — Google review
We took a wonderful cable car ride up the mountain. The scenic views were breathtaking. It was cloudy at the top, so we did not get a view down-mountain, but the statue of Christ was awesome. Beautiful trails to walk around the top as well.

Breathtaking view. We were on a tour, so we couldn't stay long. I'm not sure what the point was of the silly man-made 'lagoon' that looks like a swimming pool, but ya can't swim in it (a pool guy was cleaning it). I read a sign that there's a cave up there too, but there wasn't time to visit. I gave 4 stars because of the view... not the tourist trap photographers or fake lagoon.

When visiting Puerto Plata, a must-visit destination is the Macorix House of Rum. This tour offers an escape from the afternoon heat and provides insight into the creation process of locally made Dominican rums. Visitors can sample various flavors such as Coco Splash and Pineapple Rums. The guided tour, which costs $8 per person, covers the history of rum, the company, barrel aging, and different types of rum.
What a fantastic tour! They dive into the history of the company and its founder and share the various types of rum they craft and their different uses. Plus, the best part? You can sample a delightful array of rums, even if the sips are tiny! It’s such a fun experience filled with flavor and knowledge!
Mark S — Google review
🍹✨ We started with a historical video about how the rum is made and its rich history—I learned so much I didn’t know before. 📽️ Then came the best part: tasting every flavor of rum they create! 🍍🍎 From apple rum to pineapple rum, each one was unique and delicious. After the tasting, we visited the little store and tried their sangria made with their rum—it was amazing! 🍷 Such a fun and flavorful experience.
Cat C — Google review
It was a fantastic tour! A lot of interesting facts about the production of rum, and at the end testing many types of this liquor.
Agata W — Google review
Macorix House of Rum is a major player in town and their distillery is pretty big given the limited size of the island. The building is dark and they don’t allow flash photography so you’ve got limited opportunities for photos. Their tasting room however does allow photography and they have some nice areas with some historic background on not just the distillery but the island too. I don’t drink, but my rum drinking wife said it was great. Total tour time = 10 minutes.

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Very tasty rum choices. Alfred out tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. The store was a vibe along with great music to entertain the patrons.

Great tour. Lots of yummy rum to try.

Very touristy but a fun outing. The tour only lasts 15 minutes as these things go and you end up in a tasting room to try several different rums. Then the place across the street is a very large store and bar.

Umbrella Street in Puerto Plata is a must-see attraction located in the historic part of the city. The street is adorned with brightly-colored umbrellas, creating a picturesque setting that's perfect for photography. This vibrant spot has become popular among tourists, especially when cruise ships dock, bringing a lively atmosphere. However, during quieter times, it offers a glimpse into local life and becomes an ideal place for people-watching and unique photo opportunities.
Oh my God, this place was just beautiful! We couldn't believe it when, walking up the street in Puerto Plata, we saw the umbrellas from afar. We were taken aback; we had to go and take pictures. There were people there with parakeets, and people offering to take pictures for you. A real nice street that reminds me of the one in Puerto Rico. We loved that. It was a blessed time for me, my wife, and my family.

Beautiful street. You can find food and cold presidente' here. There are plenty of stores around all geared towards tourist. There were people with parrots and monkeys for you to take pictures with for a tip.

Umbrella Street in Puerto Plata is a vibrant and colorful spot perfect for photos and a relaxing stroll. The hanging umbrellas create a cheerful atmosphere and offer shade while you explore the charming street lined with shops and cafes. It’s a popular tourist attraction, small but worth a quick stop to enjoy the lively vibe and capture memorable pictures.

Really loved how well kept and modern this is. A couple of people selling photos for $5. I got one with a macaw and also someone with an umbrella that took a great video. Well worth the $5. I was grabbed by someone who helps with tours and photos. I guess a tour guide. Who also took me to Pink Steet where I took photos with 4 years old Lizzie her pet monkey. Over proved tourists shops aimed at the cruise ships. Pharmacist was great and I bought the items over the counter and paid in dollars. I e cream cart, juice bar and local supermarket. I parked in the free car park. I took a fabulous photo outside of the coffee and cacao / chocolate shop. I wished I’d stayed longer and bought more. But a tour guide arrived with a lot of tourists and it got a bit too noisy. Vendors sis not lost prices which I dislike as I prefer to browse and compare. But that’s the same in other countries. Pay by card or dollars or pesos. There’s a duty free store next to Pink Street that has price variation if paying by cash or card. A must see and do. I’ll pop back on my next visit.

I would say this is one of the nicest places in Puerto Plata. It has a nice variety of shops, including little souvenir shops, places to pick up something to eat, and everything else you would find elsewhere, all in one street.

The Parque Central is a great place to relax and people watch in Puerto Plata. It's also home to a number of historical buildings and is decorated for Christmas each year. The square is full of beautiful flowers, trees, and pigeons, which add to the local atmosphere. The people here are super nice and welcoming, making it a great place to explore on your trip to the Dominican Republic.
We love it here, the vendors during the days it’s a open clear market are a lot of fun, many folks speak English. Feeding the pigeons is a great deal of fun and the kids enjoyed themselves. The architecture views of buildings surrounding the park itself is amazing and beyond views of the mountains in the background… what can I say. I’ve been to Hawaii twice, I’ve been to the Dr 4 times. There no reason to ever go back to Hawaii. Gorgeous beaches, views & people

Took a private taxi tour from Amber Cove port while on Carnival cruise. This is our First stop in the city after a quick drive outside the city. There are a couple of statues, a cathedral and a coconut stand where you can juice the fresh coconut for $2 and eat it after. The couple selling the coconuts are very nice.

It is a pretty place but I found it a bit dirty to my liking. There’s an ice cream shop across the street and an ATM if you need it. Ice cream was delicious. Good place to sit on the bench and watch locals gathering for a church mass in the evening and just enjoy the view. Also a good spot for taking pictures.

This is an amazing place at Christmas time. Everyone is out and enjoying themselves. Even the children and it is probably 8 or 9 o'clock. Now, very family oriented, very nice. There is a very hard time parking but other than that it's great

This park is just a square but we visited right after New Years and it was decorated lovely. It is a short walk from the port. There are a lot of pigeons! There was a gentlemen that would use bird seed 5o attract them and you could have your picture taken with them if you want to be that close to pigeons. St Philip the apostle cathedral is right off the square and has beautiful stained glass.

Specialty Museums
Museo del Ámbar Dominicano, located in a Victorian building, is a must-visit attraction in Puerto Plata. It houses a unique collection of valuable Dominican amber, known for its exceptional transparency. The museum offers an immersive experience into the world of this semiprecious resin, transporting visitors back to the time of the Taino people. Visitors can explore ancient artifacts and stunning amber jewelry while learning about the island's rich amber deposits.
The Dominican Amber Museum truly exceeded my expectations. It’s located in a beautiful old Victorian house that gives the whole visit a unique charm. I learned so much about amber, and seeing ancient insects trapped inside pieces that are millions of years old was amazing. The famous blue amber—found only in the Dominican Republic—is absolutely stunning. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, making the tour enjoyable and informative. There's also a lovely little shop with genuine amber jewelry. Perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers. Definitely a must-see if you're in Puerto Plata!
Levis A — Google review
The Amber Museum, and it was so much more than I expected! 🏛️✨ Seeing fossilized insects inside the amber and learning about the process of how it's made was absolutely fascinating. 🐞🪨 It’s a great place to admire these beautiful stones while getting a history lesson. One of my favorite parts? Finding out that an amber piece from this museum was borrowed for the Jurassic Park movie! 🦖🎥 No wonder the museum’s logo looks so similar to the movie's. Highly recommend visiting—it’s an unforgettable experience!

Very fun museum with incredible amber specimens. The Jurassic park logo was inspired here. There’s also a nice exhibit on making cigars. Takes make 45 mins to see everything.

Kya S — Google review
The visit to this museum was fascinating. They have many interesting amber specimens. On top of that, a piece of the museum was also developed as a cigar factory, which was unexpected. You could see live the process of bonding a cigar - an amazing adventure, I recommend it.
Agata W — Google review
This is a wonderful museum located inside a beautiful historic house. Our guide, Gustavo, was friendly, informative, and he expressed pride in his job. There are some amazing examples of prehistoric amber, an interesting presentation on cigar making, and a gift shop with actual quality items. I highly recommend visiting when in Puerto Plata, but don’t confuse this quality museum with the lower quality, tourist trap, ‘Amber Mine Museum’ or you will likely be very disappointed.
Alan B — Google review
Interesting enough but not what I would go out of my way to see. This was one of the stops in the Cruise land tour package we purchased.
Marie-Tess F — Google review
EDITED TO ADD: The tour is longer now. And includes a section about how cigars are made. It was an OK addition to the tour. If you are sensitive to smells, this might bother you. But I do believe you can skip that part (since it's at the end). ORIGINAL POST: We really enjoyed it. The tour is about 20 to 25 minutes. Very informative and fun. They are doing some construction work, so hopefully when it's done it'll be more amazing. There are a couple areas with some great looking trees, but because of construction and remodeling, we just walked through. Lots of fun... and close to Central Park.

Paseo de Doña Blanca, also known as Pink Street or Calle Rosada, is a charming and vibrant street in Puerto Plata. It was named after Blanca Franceschini Rainieri, a resilient Italian-Dominican mother who played a significant role in the city's tourist industry. The street features Victorian-style architecture and is entirely painted in various shades of pink, creating a picturesque setting that's perfect for photography enthusiasts.
💖📸 This pink alleyway is too cute! It’s such a fun spot for pictures. 😍 While it can get crowded, if you visit at the right time, you can have it all to yourself! 🌸✨ Perfect for those Instagram-worthy moments!

I loved strolling along the walkway, taking in the sights and sounds of the surrounding area. The architecture, the gardens, and the statues all add to the beauty of the paseo. Whether you're a local or just visiting, Paseo de Doña Blanca is a must-see destination. It's perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll or a romantic evening walk. Beautiful decor and setting in this historic building across from Parque Central. The food was quite good with Dominican and other food styles. The risotto I had was nicely cooked. The prices are costly by Dominican standards, but quite reasonable for tourists. I would suggest skipping their ice cream to head to Mariposa next door for their home made. Sadly, outside noise from motorcycle and car traffic can be loud, but it calms down later in the evening. An great addition to the upgraded downtown.

Casa 40 is an artsy and laid-back hideout for bohemian travelers, located near the San Felipe Cathedral in Puerto Plata. The restaurant offers a diverse menu featuring traditional dishes, creative entrees, and fresh salads. Notably, Casa 40 stands out for its international and Mediterranean cuisine, such as the Pesto Burrata with Prosciutto and the Casa 40 Angus-Chorizo Burger. Situated on Duarte St. No.
Casa 40 is an absolute gem in Puerto Plata! It's set in a 135-year-old house that's just gorgeous, with lots of beautiful and cool artwork. There's also a bookstore/gift shop attached. The large, beautiful patio has an amazing authentic island vibe. We loved the cute cats hanging around—such a plus for me! The owner and hostess is fabulous—kind, attentive, and always with the most beautiful and warm smile. I believe she's also the cook, and her dishes were delicious, authentic, and natural. We had some fresh juices that were fabulous, and she even offered us a sweet plantain flan that was to die for! The only downside was that the food took a while to come out, but it was well worth the wait with the great ambiance. I went with my family of six, and we all had a fantastic time. Plus, the restaurant is right near the major attractions, so it's super convenient. Highly recommend checking out Casa 40!

The location Is Amazing, a piece of history where you can walk right in and have food. Colorful, beautiful and creative. Beautiful place to eat and enjoy drinks in a great environment. It’s within the current the high-demand area in Puerto Plata and a sound option to enjoy some time in the open space with good food menu and diverse cocktail options. The service is coming up to pace and the food could have arrived sooner. Would visit again for sure and you can go and explore on your one.

This is a great place to check out. Very peaceful. Excellent service. Food was very good. I happened to go a night there was live music, which made my meal more enjoyable. Only thing I didn’t like were the cats that were around constantly begging for food and jumping up on chairs.
Jim M — Google review
Nice down to earth place but the food could be better. We had the fritters platter which was sort of mystery ingredients and was soaked in grease with sauces which really didn’t have ny taste at all so I would not recommend that, my son had grilled chicken with fries which he enjoyed, my daughter had a typical burger which was really tasty as well and my mom had a steamed vegetable platter with 6 slices of zucchini and 3 small pieces of red peppers. Not worth it at all. She also had grilled chicken with yuca fries. They really need to work on their sauces and broaden the menu as well. The ambience was ok for the daytime. I’m pretty sure that probably at night things are livelier.

The place is beautiful. The patio has old leafy trees and looks like a nice garden. The Dominican breakfast was also very tasty. Hey, mashed potatoes for breakfast, how can you go wrong? The elderly lady and the young guy provide excellent service and just ooze kindness.

Great coffee and service. Our waiter even spoke french when he heard us talking, he was very nice. We didn't get to taste the food but it looked good. I loved the vibe of the place. I wish we discovered it earlier when we were in Puerto Plata.

Overall the service was good. I gave 3 stars only because the two gentlemen excelled in providing customer service by meeting my needs/preferrence. The two gentlemen that served me were very patient and did what they could to satisfy me. Although there were only 2 other guests there (it took a while before I could order) and both my salad and entree were sent back because it was not prepared correctly, I would still be inclined to give 3 stars due to the exceptional customer service provided.

This was my second time at Kaffe. I couldn’t wait to get my favorite Chinola drink! As I expected my experience was great. I love the Cuban decor and feel of the place. It’s very clean and home like. I adore the in home setup. It’s really nice to go at anytime of the day. I went with a friend for lunch. We ordered the chinola shake, then chicken croquetas. The croquetas were like eating chicken crab cakes. Soooo delicious. Then I ordered a ceaser wrap with shrimp and my friend ordered the parmesan risotto. I wrap was great, I do prefer less cheese but if you’re a cheese lover you’d be just fine with it. The risotto had excellent flavor, however I know risotto to not have that much broth, or was almost soupy. But that didn’t stop us from enjoying it. We were too full to order dessert, but the crepes look delicious. We ordered another chinola shake to go. Kaffe is definitely a place to go for a nice ambiance and great food and drinks!

So when it comes to food… I know a little too much about it 🤣 my boyfriend is Dominican from MOCA and we have been traveling throughout DR for the past 2 weeks seeking authentic Dominican food, culture and etc. THIS RESTAURANT IS BELLÍSIMO!! Our first time in the Dominican Republic and our tour guide Pedro took us to the most amazing, authentic, Dominican restaurant in Puerto Plata, Polanco Restaurant!! This spot is a true gem and the service and food was an 11 out of 10!!! We ordered Cheese and eggs with Mangu, Arroz con pollo, Arroz con camerones, and fried Red Snapper with rice and beans that were so good I wanted to sneak them on the cruise ship, and fried green bananas. If you’re in the DR and take a taxi into el centro, this place is a must for lunch. We are looking forward to another trip to the DR and will be revisiting Polanco! Thank you to the owners and staff!!

I do appreciate the atmosphere, the location, and the overall service of this restaurant. But BEWARE, it’s very expensive for what it offers! Its one of those places where tour guides take their customers to and earn commission - and that’s okay but for a quiet Wednesday we waited almost 40 min to get our food and the total of one fish, one salad, one fried pork comes to $60 is a little unexpected. It is good home cooking but nothing special and I don’t love the fact that it took a long time for food and the quality was average for the price. I have nothing against the tour guides and the restaurant, I just wish it’s more fair with the prices and services if they want to bus all the tourists here.

La Puntilla Park, located next to Fort San Felipe in Puerto Plata, is a picturesque waterfront park with a modern amphitheater that hosts live events. This is a great place to visit from the cruise port. It has beautiful views of the water and the cruise port. The fort might be the highlight of the park but the grounds are also nice to walk on. I wish it was cleaner and fixed up a bit but the views are outstanding. The fort charges a few dollars to get in. It’s small but well worth the price. The park is in a great location with nice paths to walk on. The park itself is in need of money to fix and clean things up. Getting to La Puntilla Park from the cruise port is a short walk. Most of the sidewalk is easy to walk on but one area is really skinny. The sidewalks are not accessible at all. One place has two steps going down and back up for no reason I can see. Once at the park there are nice paths to walk on.

Beautiful view of the ocean. High up perspective immersed in historic nostalgia. Feels like time preserved. Comfortable climb from below. Nice for relaxing. Shade and sun in equal abundance with relaxing ambience of water and birds…sometimes wind. Ok often wind lol. Can explore deeper history in either direction. There is the Ft and old jail. Souvenirs to buy, for tourist mainly. Might see cruise ships port. People watch as many make use of area to exercise. If you go too early a bathroom wont be open. But after they open, i think its 7 or 8, they are just steps away. Kid friendly, family friendly, probably even date friendly! You need to be creative or self entertaining though. Unless you like walking and are adventurous. Can walk to the ocean. Beautiful photo ops different than resort and sandy beach footage. These are rocky and jagged edge. Perfect for sound recording of the ocean waves crashing. Can make your own sleep ambience recordings here. Glad to see they put up a don’t liter sign. It’s a step in the right direction. And if you’re reading this……Please don’t litter. Ever. No matter where you are. It’s stupid and ugly. And easy not to do. Have some respect.

I recently visited Puerto Plata as a stop on my Norwegian Aqua cruise. Overall, I had a good time—especially the rum tour, which was both fun and informative. The local guides were engaging, the tastings were enjoyable, and the atmosphere had a great energy. That said, the area felt overcrowded and very touristy. From the moment we docked, it was clear that the port is built to cater to cruise passengers, which can take away from the authenticity of the experience. Shops, excursions, and even the interactions felt somewhat staged and overly commercial. Puerto Plata has some beautiful scenery and a rich culture, and I wish I had more time to explore beyond the usual tourist spots. With smaller crowds and a more local touch, this destination could be truly memorable. Still, it was a pleasant stop on the cruise—just not the kind of place I’d go out of my way to return to.

Stopped here on a tour for a short visit. Really lovely overlook of the ocean, with access to the Fort. You can tour the fort for a small fee if interested

Seashore park about 20 minutes from Amber Cove (Carnival Cruise port). The area has both a fort and monument to a local revolutionary hero. It is also situated right along the coastline offering very scenic views of the coast and local towns. The fort itself costs $5 per person to enter and contains a few brief exhibits describing the history of the fort and revolution. Most of the fort is wheel chair accessible except the second floor which is stairs only. On the second floor is the top of the fort that offers a very unique acoustic experience similar to the Pantheon in Rome. Definitely worth a visit and doesn't break the bank. Take some time to walk along the pathway that runs parallel to the coast. Plenty of good spots for photos.

Fortaleza de San Felipe is a historic Spanish fortress built in the late 1500s to defend against pirates and invaders. Located on a hill at the Puntilla Del Malecon, it overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and protected the entrance to Puerto Plata's seaport. The fort offers fully narrated tours around its grounds, showcasing history displays and old cannons pointing out to sea.
This fort is in San Felipe Park which is a short walk from the cruise ship port. The sidewalk is skinny in places so not accessible for wheelchairs. Once at the park it’s easy walking to get to the fort itself. Who wouldn’t like seeing a Spanish fort dating to the late 1500s which was built to defend against pirates. The fort was completed in 1577. There is a $2 per person fee and you get a headset so you can listen to the story of the fort. My headset didn’t work well. I think it was a bad cable or the audio port. It was fine as the fort is interesting with lots of things to look at and read. Like most of the Dominican, the fort could use money to fix things up. It’s a great place to get photos of the water, beaches and cruise ship port. There are public bathrooms in the fort.

Not only is the first interesting and historically significant, you should go there just for the history alone, but there's a beautiful view and a great breeze off the water to keep things cool and comfortable. It was about 100 pesos and worth the price to get to see the views from the turrets. There is parking and there are public bathrooms too, and souvenir stalls too if you like that kind of thing.

Well maintain, nice to walk and not feel like a tour is going to ask for a fee or approach you. Beautiful place from puerto plata and full of a lot of potential.

The San Felipe Fort was a stop on our private tour of Puerto Plata. If you’ve been to San Juan and seen the large fort there, this is much smaller, but very similar in age and stone composition. Over 450 years old, it is on a cliff next to ocean so there are plenty of great views. You can also buy tickets to go through it for a half hour tour.

A small fort with a deep history. A nice stop in a tour. The views are great from this spot. You can see the cruise ships from here too.

This place is really neat. It only cost $1.00 USD to get in and walk around. Nice views of the harbour and sea. Just a nice piece of history to enjoy for about 45 minutes or so. Lots of local peddlers around trying to sell their wares. I love chatting them up and buying a few trinkets.

Malecón de Puerto Plata

4.7
(942)
Malecón de Puerto Plata is a picturesque beachside boardwalk that stretches from Long Beach to the city center. It offers stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Statue of Neptune, as well as palm-bordered beaches with clear waters. The area is lined with a variety of bars and restaurants, making it perfect for leisurely walks, bike rides, or people-watching. Visitors can also explore the colonial museum at Fortaleza and stroll through town to visit shops and the local church.
Wonderful area. Can't wait to bring my electric bike here on my next visit!
Peter C — Google review
Puerto Plata, we had such high hopes after seeing beautiful stuff online. Unfortunately it turned out to be a bitter disappointment. The supposedly beautiful Malecon with its beautiful beaches is nothing more than a very long walk past a landfill they call a shoreline. The beaches are literally miles of garbage. The few exceptions are the spots where people have a beachbar. From the grass right next to the pathway untill the water, over almost the entire length of the Malecon is filled with trash It's heartbreaking because the nature and the sights are so beautiful. If the authorities manage to solve this, it can be one of the most beautiful spots in the DR. But for now it's just a sad reminder of the wastfullness of man and the ongoing environmental problems they have created.
Super P — Google review
Great place to walk but a lot of garbage on the sides. It is all locals who party along here most nights but busiest day is Sunday. They just throw their bottles and styrofoam packages all over the beach and sides of roads and don’t care. I want to cry when I see such a beautiful walkway and view and see nothing but garbage everywhere. Very surprising considering the many tour ships they get there. It is a common thing that Dominicans accept all over the country. The President should give refunds for all bottles and eliminate styrofoam packaging on the island. They should also have many more garbage cans on the Malecon. The many poor people would be happy to pick it all up and receive some compensation and the island would be beautiful again. The many washrooms are all closed and in bad shape and cannot be used. Many of the restaurants do not have washrooms so be careful if you have any issues.

Great view towards ocean from shore, however nearby you can find lot's of garbage on the seashore....

Went for lunch and had some cervezas and tacos, hard and soft shells. Service and atmosphere were great. Nice views of the water and roadway, but the traffic was a little noisy. There's a pier across the street and a nice boardwalk where you can walk off your libations.

Neat malecón with views of ocean and mountains all the way down. However, the 4 lane road is very scary to cross, especially with speeding drivers and few and inadequate crosswalks.

Located in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Big Lee's Beach Bar & Grill has been a popular spot since its opening in 2011. Situated by the Cosita Rica Beach with a view of the North Atlantic Ocean, it attracts both locals and tourists, including cruise passengers. The bar offers a lively atmosphere day and night, featuring classic rock music and karaoke. With its beachfront location, patrons can enjoy swimming after indulging in delicious drinks and food.
Went to Big Lee's on a beautiful sunny day in Dominican. We got to meet Big Lee (who isn't that big anymore) and had a lovely meal. The atmosphere is very relaxing and we both enjoyed our meals. The prices are probably a little steep, but it's pretty on par with what we were able to find in the popular areas in the DR.

We all went on a trip to PP and this was on our list to try as there were great reviews about it. The good news is the onion rings was good and the fries were also good but a little on the oily side. Now the fish was not good at all, it was not cooked well and it’s too salty and that’s coming from 4 different women.
Emma G — Google review
Exactly what it is, a beach bar! Very relaxed environment. Don’t expect too much. Videos/photos clearly represent this place. Basic menu with burgers and chicken fingers for a little more money than expected. That goes for the drinks too. Expensive for what you get. When you factor in the state of the establishment. I say this because we passed a few restaurants down this strip and they looked more welcoming. Being a bit more up to date, clean with more food options. The server was kind and helpful. It served its purpose. Would I return? Probably not with other options that looked more appealing for the price. I will say it was quiet and the view was pretty.

This place has an almost-cultlike following (especially among Canadians for some reason) and is a great spot to chill and have a few cold Presidentes just a few minutes from the Amber Cove cruise port. The amazing view is definitely the draw (no offense to el jefe, Big Lee), and the staff is excelente! I prefer to eat local in Puerto Plata (I highly recommend Parada El Playa), so we have never tried the food (the fish and chips gets lots of love, but most of the menu is just burgers, fries, etc). The aforementioned view is postcard-worthy, but don't come for the beach which, like most of the beaches along the malecon, is small and trash-strewn.

Best place to eat at the beach in Puerto Plata. When we arrived Big Lee (now medium Lee) greeted us warmly and chatted a bit. We ordered fish sandwiches (my favorite), hamburgers, and chicken strips. All the food was delicious. The waitress was very nice and always smiling. I will be going back in a couple days for another fish sandwich. Thanks for the hospitality Lee.

We were there in the late morning. We ordered their specialty fish and chips. We were rather disappointed. Although it all looked great. The fish was mushy and grease filled. The frenxh fries were good but also very greasy. The salad would be even nicer if served with a dressing. The tartar sauce was excellent.

Excellent fish and chips! Cool little beach bar in Puerto Plata, serving a very simple but delicious menu. Prices are the best you’ll find here on the Malecon. Sit back, relax, and watch the surfers enjoying the ocean.
Steven K — Google review
On the shimmering shores of Puerto Plata, I stumbled upon an American restaurant that immediately piqued my interest. As I approached, the aroma of sizzling burgers wafted through the salty sea breeze, beckoning me inside. This place exuded authenticity, and I soon learned that the mastermind behind it all was none other than Lee, a Chicago native who ventured to these tropical lands 14 years ago to establish this culinary gem. Sometimes, my cravings steer me toward the comforting embrace of a damn good American cheeseburger, and let me tell you, the ones served here were nothing short of a revelation. With each juicy bite, the perfect balance of flavors danced on my palate, while the crispy fries added a delightful touch of nostalgia to the experience. Nestled right on the beach, the restaurant boasted a view that was truly awe-inspiring. The vast expanse of the ocean stretched before me, its waves serenading my taste buds with a symphony of flavors. The heart and soul of this establishment were embodied by the bartender, chef, and waitress all rolled into one. A charming individual, she happened to be Lee's wife's youngest sister. Her warmth and genuine kindness were infectious, making me feel like part of their extended family. Her dedication to ensuring a memorable dining experience was evident in every detail, from her infectious laughter to her culinary expertise. As I delved deeper into the background of this remarkable eatery, I discovered something that truly touched my heart. Lee's social media presence revealed his commitment to not only serving scrumptious American fare but also to making a difference in the lives of local children. His philanthropic endeavors in the community were heartwarming and inspiring. Posts brimming with photos of friends, family, and patrons generously donating money and school supplies for underprivileged children illuminated the immense impact this restaurant had beyond just its culinary creations. Lee, it seemed, was not only a culinary wizard but also a man with a heart of gold. He was beloved by all – from the locals who had come to cherish his presence over the years, to the wide-eyed tourists who discovered a taste of home in this tropical paradise. In the spirit of unity and genuine compassion, I couldn't help but wholeheartedly support a business like this. With every bite of that mouthwatering cheeseburger, I savored not just the flavors, but the knowledge that I was contributing to a cause much greater than my own culinary indulgence. In the world of food and travel, it's encounters like these that remind me of the profound power restaurants can wield in fostering community and uplifting those in need. Lee and his restaurant had truly touched my heart, and I walked away not just nourished in body but also enriched in spirit.

Playa Dorada is a stunning beach in the Dominican Republic, known for its palm-lined golden sands and crystal-clear waters. It's not just a beach; it's a destination offering luxury and relaxation. The area provides various activities, from kitesurfing to exploring waterfalls at 27 Charcos de Damajagua and snorkeling at Cayo Arena. Visitors can also immerse themselves in local culture by visiting nearby villages, trying Dominican cuisine, or learning about cocoa and coffee plantations.
Excellent ocean swimming on the North coast of Dominican Republic. Mount Isabel de Torres provides protection from hurricanes, we are here during hurricane Melissa, Oct. 2025 and only have yellow flags along the beachfront. Great Beach.

Very nice stretch of beach. There are some coral rocks in some areas, and a lot of seaweed washes up, but they rake it and keep it clean. The beach itself is quiet and stretches for quite a distance and encompasses several resorts.
Dennis S — Google review
We had a really enjoyable day at this beach and would absolutely return, but there are a few things that kept it from being a full five-star experience. What truly stood out was the experience— not just in what was available, but in the people. The beach had a lively, local charm with vendors walking by offering everything from handmade chachkes and sunglasses to snacks, drinks, and even photo ops with animals like parrots and iguanas. It made the beach feel vibrant and alive, and our kids loved the excitement. There were plenty of options for relaxing — cabanas, beach chairs, and umbrellas were available to rent, and a full-service beachfront restaurant was just steps away. While we appreciated the convenience, everything came at an added cost and most of the facilities, including the chairs, cabanas, restrooms, and changing areas, could really use a refresh. They worked, but they were definitely showing their age. The food was okay — nothing to rave about, but good enough to keep us going through a day in the sun. What made the meal more enjoyable was the service. Our favorite waiter, **Christian**, was kind, funny, and went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. He really elevated the whole experience. There are also lots of little shops nearby if you want to browse or pick up souvenirs, and the waves were perfect for swimming and playing. Overall, this beach has character, color, and charm — and with a few upgrades, it could easily be five stars.

In December and January the water was quite full of algae. Maybe it’s the season, I don’t know. Not in all the parts it was full with algae, but anyway it was disturbing. So, sometimes we were going to Sosua beach as it was wonderful there….

I recently visited this beautiful white sand beach, and I must say, it's impeccably maintained despite the numerous resorts nearby. Arriving with a tourist group, we were delighted to find a designated area with beach chairs and umbrellas exclusively for tourists. The availability of tap water for a refreshing post-beach bath was a thoughtful touch. Additionally, the convenience of having a restaurant nearby serving snacks and drinks added to the overall enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this beach for a relaxing getaway.

Great beach. Water was 85. Food & drinks were good. Fresh water showers to clean up.

Stunning beach that is only accessible for the resorts in the Playa Dorada gated complex. Technically, locals can access it if they enter on the west side of the public beach and walk a couple of kilometers, but that's not an issue for me. Pristince sandy beaches with beautiful warm blue water with waves to jump in. There are kiosks to rent jetskis, parasailing, snorkel tours, etc.

Waitress gave us a price for item not on menu (ceviche), and then charged us more than double the amount she had stated! An unforgettable dining experience at this gem of a restaurant right on the beach in Puerto Plata! Buyer beware. I wrote this review when my wife and I visited the restaurant. The prices were what you would expect for a beach front restaurant in a popular Dominican location. Fast forward a few days....... We returned and met up with a group of friends that arrived on a Cruise Ship, they only had 6 hours on shore. My wife and I had the same food and drinks that we had on our earlier visit and the prices had almost doubled. The practice of ripping off Cruise Ship visitors is terrible, and we will not eat there again.

Playa Dorada Shopping Centre in Puerto Plata is a must-visit destination for those looking to take home a piece of the city. The complex offers a variety of local products, from translucent amber jewelry to mamajuana bottles and beachwear. Visitors can explore small, interesting shops with Dominican souvenirs, gifts, and clothing. While some departments may be closed due to the pandemic's impact on tourism, the shopping center still provides an opportunity to support local businesses.
This plaza is located in the Playa Dorada hotel complex, 15 minutes from downtown Puerto Plata. It's t's in a gated location with security, so it's safe to go shopping and walk around. Nice little mall, but way overpriced. Just because there are resorts in the surrounding area. Everything is doubled in price. For example the liquor store at the mall l had Brugal for 1150 Pesos. But the one in the city Puerto Plata had them for 650 pesos.
Denisa M — Google review
Those stores that are open excellent service. Unfortunately most of the stores are closed and a few will not make deals.

This location offers lots of small, interesting local shops with any kind of local produchts, souvenirs, gifts, clothes and Dominican stuff. But due to the pandemic situation and less tourists and Hotel guests many departments are closed. What a pity 😞

Nice shopping mall with a lot of souvenir to take home, the bar is excellent, incredible restaurant. But you need to be carefully with the prices and the exchange rate that's why I will not give the 5 ⭐.

Movie theater
Pop Cinemas, conveniently situated within the Playa Dorada Mall, showcases highly anticipated first-run movies from the United States. With affordable ticket prices and reasonably priced refreshments, this theater offers a fantastic movie-watching experience. For approximately $5.00, patrons have the opportunity to enjoy blockbusters like Avengers, Spider-Man, and Star Wars upon their initial release.
Look you have to remember where you at but I think it does a great job and the prices are low I’ve been 3 times and it has been consistent older seats medium size screen but not bad definitely will go back

Poor service from staff. The seats broken, small place. It really needs an upgrade fast.No respect for clients a lot of noise from other people, they speak loud on phones no respect at all Good thing popcorn was great

Small, but they work ... For people that live here, it's great .. for anyone used to first world cinemas, this could be a letdown. However, the place is clean, tidy, but small.

Francesca P — Google review
It’s the only movie theater in Puerto Plata, it’s nice & have 3 movies rooms. Most of the movies are in Spanish but sometimes you can find in English with Spanish subtitles. The price for the tickets is reasonable and they offer a big variation of snacks
Rosalba W — Google review
Went to the midnight opening night showing of Spiderman No Way Home. It was a great experience. Nice big screen. Nice cheap prices. (200 pesos each, less than $4) Fresh popcorn. Great crowd. No the seats don't recline and there is no assigned seating. Just a good, simple theater.
Michael B — Google review
Pretty clean; somewhat small movie theater. Audio/sound is good; some movies felt alittle too loud, especially since the individual theaters are quite small. Video is good. Snacks are regular movie theater snacks. Be cautious for big movie releases. We went to see Avengers End Game, and they sold extra tickets for seats that didn't exist. They ended up putting folding chairs IN THE AISLE, from the last to the front row, and a row of chairs in the front as well. Didn't seem too safe.

French restaurant
Nestled in the picturesque Costa Dorada area, Le Petit Francois is a delightful beach-front restaurant that offers an eclectic menu featuring Dominican, Italian, French, and American dishes. Guests rave about the delectable lobster, calamari, and Caesar salad. The inviting deck provides stunning sea views that enhance your dining experience. While it can get lively and crowded as the day progresses—especially with a DJ spinning tunes on Sundays—the friendly staff ensures you feel right at home.
Our last night in Puerto Plata and we had to eat here one more time. We love the chicken nachos and shrimp fettuccine. But tonight we indulged on dessert and the tiramusu was to die for! We were privileged to be dining next to the owner and his beautiful family. We will ve back next time we visit Puerto Plata!
Deanna F — Google review
First time coming here and heard about their poutine, so that’s what we went down for. I was actually disappointed and so are my friends that tried it out. The portions were quite small for the price and it was just ok. The atmosphere was good as it was on the beach and it is quite a big place but I won’t be going back again
Emma G — Google review
I ate at Le Petite François in Puerto Plata, and it was a wonderful experience. I ordered the fried fish with salad and plantain. The fish was perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with just the right amount of seasoning to enhance its natural flavors. I highly recommend Le Petite François if you’re in Puerto Plata. It’s a great spot for authentic and delicious food!
Aman B — Google review
Le Petit Francois was definitely the surprising highlight of our entire trip. The staff were warm and welcoming, the ambiance was great, and the food was so impressive we went back two days in a row. The poutine was even better than some of the top spots we tried in Montreal, including the tourist favorite La Banquise. We got to try Lambi, which you can't find in Canada, and their creole sauce was wonderfully tasty. The pina colada served in a pineapple was both strong and refreshing. On our second visit, we tried their shrimp in coconut sauce, which was truly amazing. All of this for only around $35 USD for two people - an incredible value. We thoroughly enjoyed our "excursions" outside of the resort to dine at this charming local restaurant. It was such a memorable part of our trip that we couldn't resist returning.
Daniel M — Google review
We were brought here as part of our excursion. The beach was Great and the beer was ice cold! Service was good! Food was ok. The bartender outside was very nice! I would return to hang out and drinks

Well located beach-front restaurant in the Costa Dorada area. Beers were cold and food was acceptable. Prices were good considering the location and credit cards are accepted. There is plenty of space, but gets crowded as the day goes on. There was a DJ playing good music on Sunday (day I visited) which made for an entertaining and enjoyable time. There is parking available right by the entrance to the restaurant and beach for small change to the caretaker.

too crowded and loud but we made some friends on the beach. I so regret going to the store on my way to the airport as I had already packed my luggage. I wanted so many things from the store, but my luggage was full. I was able to buy chocolate, lip balm, and chocolate oil (which I've been using all over hair and body😁), It moisturizes so much, it's so organic. Love it 💕. When I return to POP, I will visit the store 1st thing!

Don't order the nachos. They heated up stale chips. Tossed a HALF a cup of cheese if that. DID NOT MELT IT. And served it with 7-11 cheese. NOTHING like it looks in the picture. It's a few old go carts... you drive around in circles for 7 minutes. Don't expect major WOW! factor for the cars or anything. They shake you up ALOT. Bring a pillow if you're sensitive to that. Nothing special... but definitely something fun with the right group of people. It's 200 pesos for 7 minutes in the singles car (150 pesos for the slower doubles car, if you have a small child). We didn't see any snack place, but if you bring a couple snacks, there is an area where you can sit. There's also a playground. It was pretty clean. The person at the ticket counter had a mask on. The guys working at the cars did not. It's alright. We were the only people there at 1pm on a Monday.... however, we've never seen more than 2 or 3 cars in the parking area on any given day.
Veronica M — Google review
Good for hangout with the family. I went there at 1 pm... since other users reviews said trouble with the lines... found the place empty and we have a lot of fun. Go-Karts looks safe. Staff was very nice and gave us all the instructions we need. Issues: I belive they're short of personnel (no one at the cafeteria) and the bathroom were dirty (taking 2 stars for that).
Hugo P — Google review
Great place for some minor adrenaline. The staff is very courteous. We didn’t get the price we saw on the flyer which was u limited rides for $25 USD. Instead she gave us 2hrs of u limited rides for $600 Pesos per person. Not bad! After all we didn’t even last the two hours. If you ask they will put the speed all the way up!
Rochainys M — Google review
Great place to ride go karts for the price. Go when they are not busy because they have limited staff. If your kart is slow ask them to speed it up. Tip please!
Daylon M — Google review
Very Nice place for your kids to do karting. Just one suggestion do not go when there is too much sun. They offer 3 differents circuits and all of them are less than 200 pesos for 7 minutes. I would suggest also To not pay for all them at the first time. One at time would be better. Also note tickets are non refundable. Not even in rain's case
Laurie M — Google review
Awesome place! Karts are very fast and staff is good. 3 of us went when it wasn't busy and got the hour long pass and used the karts pretty much the full hour. If anyone is waiting they limit your round to 7 minutes so you would definitely have your riding time cut down.

Green Jack Tar is a Caribbean and vegetarian restaurant located in a relaxed atmosphere at Blue JackTar resort in Puerto Plata. The restaurant offers exquisite cuisine made from fresh ingredients, including dishes like Ensalada Capresa Mediterranea with grilled mozzarella, tomatoes, eggplants, zucchinis, and peppers.
We devoured a crisp salad, a cheeseburger cooked to perfection, and a blue cheese burger with the perfect balance of tangy and savory. The outdoor dining with warm and breezy weather, made it an enjoyable dining experience.

Peaceful setting at night near the beach. Great food and service. Prices are what you can expect in a tourist resort area
Aaron M — Google review
Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Had the blue burger and it came out just the way I asked for it, cooked to what I consider a perfect burger which is very little to no pink and just thick enough where it was a good size and not overly huge. Very flavorful and just the right amount of blue cheese and jalapeño. Definitely recommend this place for a good burger. Other in the party ordered a few pasta dishes and they all thought it was also good. We were a party of 5 and the bill before taxes was 7200 and the total was 28% more for a total of roughly 9200. But if you stick to the burger and water, then expect the total to be around 1,100
German M — Google review
Dinner was sparse and we waited a long time. Second chance at lunch for one person. After a 45 minute wait for a burger, I gave up and left. There was only one other group in the restaurant at the time, and they were at the bar for drinks. The looks are there, but the substance is missing. Unfortunate because this is the only option for an evening meal at the resort!
Brenda P — Google review
Read ALL reviews before you risk this place. How it has such a high overall rating with so many 1-3 star ratings with issues, I don’t know. Food was over an hour late. No wait staff. Not a busy night. After looking all around the area, there is no front desk are, or reception. It seems like it’s just a kitchen hidden away, and severs coming out with food very late and then hide in kitchen. Another 15 minutes searching for any help. I went to the bar and they acted like it wasn’t even part of the restaurant. Certainly not their problem. About an hour and a half after we arrived, we had to take a ride to get back to our hotel so had to leave without eating. As we were heading for car they brought food. Too late. No time to pack up. We left hungry and upset.
New F — Google review
The risotto and cocktails were good. Chilo Fish didn't impress and was very expensive (I guess they might have cheated on the weight of fish, we shared so they wrote exact 2 Lb - 60 USD for really average fish). Lemon pie was very sweet. Service was very bad - forgot our appetizer, forgot second cocktail, even if i said it very very clearly. Everything is done very slow, etc. Didn't say sorry, felt not good. There is one more flaw (i add it in the pictures).
Ferdinando P — Google review
I just had the worst customer service in this place. This was a must go to place every time I come to DR because the food is the best but today I was left disappointed. I brought a family member to experience what I always rave about; risotto de chivo. This time, the risotto was not as it usually is (see pics). I told the waiter if I could get some of the yellow plantains that it brings because it really complements the flavors and he rudely said “everything is mixed together lady” as if I had no clue what I ordered - I’ve had this plate like five times and it’s always the same. I looked passed his tone and believed him because it also does bring plantains inside - normally. Turns out, it was not inside either. I let it go because it was still good enough. I’d appreciate honestly and them just confirming with the kitchen if 1. They forgot it or 2. They didn’t have any. It was a really hot night and this place does get very humid and steamy. They do have fans on some beams but they were not aiming at us. We were sweating and fanning ourselves with anything we could find. Another worker came up to fix up the fan right before I was about yo call them to move it towards us so I thought “how nice of him”. Turns out, he moved it to aim a group of people who had move to the place far to our right because they were hot too. This fan was directly behind our table and it should’ve aimed to us and the rest of patrons on our right side as it is meant to do. The other side already has another fan. Overall, I unfortunately won’t be returning after going out of my way to frequent this spot for the past 5-6 years. My advice, don’t visit either unless you own one of the condos within their property (they’ll give you 5 star service) or it is a very slow weekday.
Nicole G — Google review
Green Jacktar is adjacent to the resort, Blue JackTar with apartments for rent beside it and hotel accommodations. Overall, the food was quite good and made from fresh ingredients in house. Many of the staff didnt speak English well which made it difficult to communicate. Service was hit and miss as we came here 4 days out of the week we stayed. There were days their credit card machine didn't work and took forever to pay (a day they told me my credit card was the issue.... But I was able to use it elsewhere). I felt that you got better service if you spoke Spanish. My favourite dish there was the Risotto with steak (Vacio). Their gnocchi was also excellent! Our very favourite part of this restaurant was the bartender, Luis. He was really a star 🌟! Joyous, made great recommendations on beverages, understood his customers and really kind and cares. He made the place so much better. Overall, a good place to go. Live music during weekends, too.

Beach
Nestled along the vibrant Malecon of Puerto Plata, Cosita Rica Beach is a hidden gem that perfectly embodies the essence of relaxation and fun. With its expansive golden sands and gentle waves, this beach is ideal for families looking to enjoy a day in the sun. The shallow waters make it safe for children to splash around while adults can indulge in various activities like volleyball or simply lounging under an umbrella with a refreshing drink.
This is the top beach of El Malecon, and took its name from the Cosita Rica, the first restaurant ever established there. The scenery is beautiful, golden sand and shallow swimming areas. I often visit Carihuela there for the excellent drinks, also I like the Swank VIP and Cosita Rica Restaurant. ElevenPOP is another great restaurant with very nice beach front and service.

This beach and coastline is very beautiful to watch from far. But going in water is bad experience. Water is polluted and contains lots of garbage. Most of patches are polluted either by tourists or locals. Locals needs to take up seriously to keep the area clean. Avoid going in for swim or fun.

Nice relaxing atmosphere on the beach. If you like trying beer this is the place to go. They serve around 20 different beers from different places particularly Belgium. However if you are not a beer drinker this place offers little in the way of other drinks. They only have a beer menu. They do have other alcohol for mixing but don't have a menu and wouldn't trust their mixing skills as most places along here with a cocktail menu are usually not very good themselves. Also they do not have much in the way of food so don't plan on staying for a meal.

The bar serves cold beer and delicious pina coladas, with a plate of the day featuring chicken, rice, beans, and salad at an affordable price.
The fish was great and seasoned!!! Got an avocado added to my plate without asking. They do have a neighborhood cat that will jump on you for food but he's friendly. If you are allergic or scared of cats I don't recommend.

This casetta is located on the far end of the strip. They offer a good selection of local food at a good price. They had bachata playing and offer a good view of the ocean. Looks like there is some decent beach space nearby as well.

A family owned business on the beach. Hard drinks were so-so, beer mostly served. The proximity to the beach is the selling feature. They claimed to serve breakfast, but two time I went, they were closed. Beer n wine and on beach okay. Others down the street better.

Stopped here during a short tour during a cruise stop. We stopped just for drinks which were delish! Unfortunately, they were out of a few food items, so we settled for a chicken sandwich. I'm not sure what we received, but it was chopped up chicken on bread with cheese. It left a lot to be desired, but I enjoyed.

This is an open air outdoor restaurant on the malecon. It is the very first building. It serves up a very good pina colada and has really cold beer. The plate of the day is chicken, rice, beans and a salad for only 130 pesos. It is a fantastic place to reat for awhile and enjoy the sea side view

After reading on Facebook that you made your client pay for the chair she sat on and broke at your place, I will never visit your restaurant and i hope you go out of business.
