Busto Tamandaré is a popular spot in Joao Pessoa, featuring a promenade with reddish sand, palm-lined walkways, and landmark public artworks. It's known for being a great place to take pictures and start a leisurely walk along the shore. The area hosts various events and boasts street performers on weekends.
Gorgeous views of the beach and walkable streets surrounding it. And it can even light up at night! It’s a very chill walk with friends or a partner! 🏖️
Sometimes there’s a feira (street fair) that lasts until around 10 pm on Mondays. They sell jewelry, dolls, and more. Some places take card but not all!
At the Busto Tamandaré there are many salesmen/saleswomen trying to get you to buy photos they take of you at the sign but you honestly don’t need to entertain that. Get your picture taken by someone you know or meet others in line and offer to take photos of one another! Maybe make a new friend, some Brazilians love to chat! 📸
Also, it’s better to show up earlier in the night time than close to closing because there’s less people (the wait can last however long people take for their photos) in line for the same night sky backdrop. 🌌🌃

The Center between Cabo Branco and Tambaú. Very Nice, but "Nothing to do but take in the view." This whole plaza was recently renewed. It is a spectacle (good) at night and a great place to take in the views during the day. Beach-side bars and restaurants line the beach going both directions. Go! Parking is very tough. Consider Uber.
One of best places to visit in João Pessoa.
The bust of Tamandaré is a small statue on the beach in Joao Pessoa. “So what?” Good question. It’s more famous as a meeting point than as an actual destination or piece of art worth a visit. It sits at the end (beginning?) of one of the main roads (Av. Pres. Epitácio Pessoa) in this capital city and divides the 2 most popular beaches here (Tambaú Beach and Cabo Branco Beach).
Many locals will say “meet me at the Bust of Tamandaré”, especially when there’s a live show or some other activity going on in the city.
It’s named for Admiral Tamandaré (Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquis of Tamandaré) of the Imperial Navy of Brazil. It’s a spot that you’ll probably miss if you’re not aware of it, but it’s worth visiting because the city’s “I Love Joao Pessoa” sign is right nearby (always worth a photo for those visiting). The 2 beaches are both very good and the area has many restaurants, hotels and bars.
Beautiful view, good place to start a walk trough the shore. Many events are held in this place. Some good street performers on the weekends.

Totally excellent... unless you are seeking a deserted beach. Great beach area, vendors of food, drink, and toys. Waves never too high, minimal undercurrent. Super crowded only on New Year's Eve. Parking can be a challenge, but a couple blocks walk will usually solve the problem.

We came here twice during our first trip to Joao Pessoa. Both were memorable experiences as the staff provided a welcoming environment with an amazing atmosphere. Its not to say the food was perfect or everything is always strictly done to the book, but this place is special because the staff were willing to be flexible and adjust if there was ever an mistake. Our appetizer was cooked poorly once, and without asking one of the wait staff took the initiative, provided effective service in English, and replaced the order with a fresh batch that was cooked to perfection. It was one of my woman's favorite places to eat in this city, and now it is one of mine as well! Thank you for the memorable experiences!

Disappointing fancy restaurant, serving a rubber octopus ( looks like that is a frozen one), Bananeira plate it was much more like a soup and all flavors expected remains only at menu.

Server did not have us proper comfort and waited to long for service. Water glasses are just a decoration since water was not even offered. Also never ask to serve more wine. Kids running around with no shoes, improper for that kind of business. The place seems to be luxurious but once you are inside people dressed improper. Food was excellent!!

A must-visit for tourists. Yes, all the cool souvenirs for your visit to João Pessoa, plus some really neat specialty shops. I like the coin store and my wife likes the rock shop. Parking can be challenging. But, it is walkable from the Tambaú - Manaíra boundary. There are similar stores along Tambaú, especially near the "Sun Salutation Monument."
If you're looking for a souvenir from the northeast while in João Pessoa, this is the place.
All kinds of different handicrafts and souvenirs. Some not local nor even Brazilian but it's a must see place to shop and you might even find unique gifts.
Booths selling local handicraft articles, from textiles to shell decorated lamps, woodworks and tableware, hammocks, local delicassees. Organized, clean, amicable! Some shops accept only cash.
A must place to visit; however, the items throughout the stores are repetitive with slight fluctuations in price

I ordered the individual shrimp (with rice and French fries) and a caipirinha. The shrimp was over-cooked, the fries very oily, and caipirinha not balanced.

Around 9pm live music started and we where in the middle of our main course and I have to say was way to loud for me as we where talking out loud to hear one another so we finished up and left, no dessert for us, lovely quent restaurant and the band didn't do it any favours for me. I will consider going back again but maybe a night no loud music. But over all I will give 5 stars as staff, food, wine, service was outstanding. 😘

A massive church that is gorgeous inside. For an entry fee of R$15 (R$7.50 for students and elderly), one receives a private guided tour (in English, Spanish, or Portuguese) where someone working in the church walks you through each of the rooms, explains the history, and shows you around.

What a mall! Amazing place for the family. It's all family friendly with even Karting and cinema in the same building! Amazing!. There is a game station, bowling, shooting center, a big inflatable castle for the children to play, etc. Loads of restaurants and the typical shops. All in all a must-go mall. I'm impressed with the quality of the service, how clean is everything and how accessible and family friendly the installations are. I've been to many malls around the world and I've never seen anything like it.
The mall is neither an innovative place nor does it provide savings of any kind. All stores can be found in any other mall or single store in the city. Escalators are positioned to force you passing as much of the mall as possible, rather than allowing you to quickly reach a store.

This is the newest shopping mall in the city of Joao Pessoa, but not my favorite. The mall is owned by the same folks that own the largest shopping mall in the area (Manaira Shopping). That explains the similarity in looks. This one has a very large parking lot, but no covered parking. There are also less stores available than Manaira Shopping; the food court is similarly limited, offering no upscale dining options (only fast-food). If you live nearby, it’s a good option, but overall, the better option for shopping, entertainment and dining is Manaira Shopping.
Although with a similar offering of stores to the city's other malls it is a far more impressive location and has a good food court

Located at the easternmost point of the Americas, the Cabo Branco Lighthouse is a 1972 winged structure that offers breathtaking panoramic views. While the location and view spot is cool, as it is the Easternmost point of the Americas, I wish there was more to see here.

Classic example of big Brazilian public work. Once the big investment is done (the propina ends and a big opening celebration), then starve the project for maintenance. It is not hopeless yet, but nearly nothing was open or in good condition. Hurrah! There were two maintenance workers. The observation deck was open and that's about it. I hear it used to be great.

Nice beach, but apparently the water is not so clean because the sewage system is directly dumping contaminated water in it. This is especially not pleasant during high tide and is also not very healthy. The beach is beautiful with many stands along the way of the beach.
Cabo Branco and Tambaú are among the best beaches in the Northeast. No, not the prettiest, but for a place to just enjoy the beach, they are hard to beat. Relatively safe water, not too rough. Many quiosques offer food and drinks. For more youthful excitement, go North to the Intermares Beach where you will often find surfers. Thus, it is windier and rougher, but there is much more boating activity to watch.

Cabo Branco Beach is possibly the best beach in the city, mostly because of the infrastructure in the area: there are many hotels, beach bars, restaurants of all types (from pizza joints to fine dining establishments); you can rent bicycles to ride on the dedicated bike path that runs all along the coast of Joao Pessoa to Cabedelo. If you are a sun worshipper, you can rent a beach chair and an umbrella and sit on the golden sand, looking at the beautiful turquoise water that’s always warm.
Cabo Branco Beach is flanked by 2 other beaches: Tambaú Beach and Seixas Beach which is where the easternmost point of the Americas is located. There are a lot of reasons to visit this beach and I highly recommend you come.

There is a possibility to rent a bicycle/tricycle.

There is only one place to sit that is interesting to eat. The owner's restaurant sits before it and keeps talking on the phone, swearing who sits at this place, in order to make the place available for the others to come: so he starts swearing again. To swear, he uses his phone as if he was making a one-thousand minute phone call. The waiters obviously know about it and do not bother the owner.

Great fancy place. Might be one of the best in Joao Pessoa. Their menu is vast, but mostly focused on sea food. The dishes are huge, no doubt one dish can serve two people, if you do not eat too much. Prices are high, but as expensive as any other fancy place in town, yet it is less expensive than restaurants in São Paulo and Rio. Service is helpful and friendly. If you have got allergies, they adapt and assist you.

Hugely disappointing! I called ahead to make sure reservation wasn’t necessary and was told it wasn’t. Jumped into a taxi and when we arrived there were no tables left but some reservations. I questioned the Maitre who was indifferent and he said to wait until the reservation dropped at 1pm. We ordered the Camembert which came cold. The chicken then arrived under cooked and during my meal the AC started dripping on me. Everything that could’ve gone wrong did and the Maitre couldn’t care less. No apology, simply turned the AC off and that was it. It’s still dripping as I write this. Had high expectations but very honestly, nothing special in terms of food. The waiter was exceptional however and was very apologetic and even offered a courtesy dessert. Perhaps the Maitre could learn a thing or two from his staff.

The best seafood restaurant in Joao Pessoa. Likely the best restaurant overall. Many items served are an absolute delight. "How did they make it so good?" For the best luck, avoid Mondays or busy nights when the kitchen staff gets overloaded. Cocktails are not the best, but OK. Get there early if you want the oceanside seats. Reservations for busy times - or if you are not early! You can eat there for under $R100 each by avoiding expensive drinks, appetizers and desserts.

Mangai is a quality buffet restaurant that offers typical food and beverages at a reasonable price. This specific Mangai restaurant in João Pessoa welcomed my old lady and me as though we were special guests. That was the best treat.
I have eaten here for 20+ years. Although food is still very good unfortunately the service has gone very bad. Orders don't only take a very long time, but orders are also getting forgotten. But as long as the food keeps its standard I'll keep coming.
We had a large family group and everyone was very happy. You choose what you want from over 100 items and pay a flat rate per 100g of food. Drinks are separate but very reasonable. Pomegranate juice was made there and amazing. Get the jar (pitcher) because one glass isn’t enough!
Everyone recommends this place. Really wish the food was a tad better for the price, but I understand because of its buffet nature and the amount of people that there is some dip in quality. A scenic overlook with amazing views of the ocean, Mirante SkyBeach is a great place to take in the sights and sounds of waves crashing on the shore. There are also plenty of picnic tables and chairs for visitors to relax in, making it a great spot for day trips or weekend getaways.
This observatory is on the 51st floor, which doesn’t sound that high, but it’s one of the tallest buildings in the city and it sits on a high neighborhood. This is also the only observatory in the city, so it’ll have to do.
It’s actually very nice—with observation decks on 2 floors. From the top of this building, you can see all of the beaches of the city below, as well as the easternmost tip of South America. It’s quite beautiful and the entry fee is very reasonable (R$20, or about $4 US).
The other really good thing about coming to visit Sky Beach is that after you've spent as much time as you’d like here, you can go down 1 more floor to visit Sky Bar, where they have indoor and outdoor seating, a large cocktail menu, as well as a decent little food menu.
If you live in the area or are just visiting, it’s definitely worth a visit—I highly recommend it!

This steakhouse has been open for only about 5 months. The restaurant is located in a lovely building in the neighborhood of Altiplano in João Pessoa. They have floor-to-ceiling windows and a large open dining area.
In my opinion, their menu is quite limited, but if you don’t visit often, there are enough choices, including several vegan dishes (more than I’ve seen at most steakhouses). We tried their onion rings for an appetizer and they were just OK.
They offer several steaks for two as a main course option. They come with the choice of 2 side dishes. We selected the prime rib, rare. It was cooked to our chosen doneness; it was tender (although I’ve had better), but I would’ve liked if it were cut thicker.
They have cheesecake on the menu, but it wasn’t available when we dined, so we just finished with a Licor 43 and an espresso.
Our waiter Alisson (a male name in Brazil) was a very good server. He told us that on Saturdays they have feijoada and all-you-can-drink Volupia cachaça too (for me, that makes it worth it all by itself). Overall, it was a very good (not great) dining experience & I might give it another try soon.

(Translated by Google) I've been here before and I noticed that the food is the same. The noodles are thick (I don't mind) but for those who prefer thin noodles, this might not be the best option. The salt is just right (but it's right on the border between acceptable and not salty). The juice is very good.
Price: Ok (the boat option P easily serves 3 people).
Atmosphere: cramped, not very well ventilated for those on the left side.

Já estive aqui outras vezes, pude perceber que o padrão da comida é o mesmo. O macarrão é massudo (não me incomoda) mas pra quem prefere um macarrão fininho, talvez aqui não seja a melhor opção. Sal no ponto (mas fica bem na beirinha entre o aceitável e o sem sal). Suco muito bom.
Preço: Ok (A opção de barca P dá pra 3 pessoas tranquilamente).
Ambiente: apertado, não tem muita ventilação pra quem fica do lado esquerdo.
Serviço: Ok.

The place is over priced. They charge you over every little thing they do. If your kid goes play, they charge you. Charge you for the band even if you don’t like it. Charge for the park. Food is so expensive. Music is really loud. It hurts your ears
We went to BDC (Bar do Cuscuz) in João Pessoa in July 2025 at night. It’s a nice spot with a lively atmosphere, welcoming couples, families, and groups of friends. The reception was quick and efficient in finding us a table.
Service: The staff is friendly and attentive. However, there are some points that could be improved:
• Orders are still managed with paper slips; using an app or digital system would make the process faster and more organized.
• Starters should ideally arrive before the main dishes, but ours came almost at the same time.
• Waiters sometimes wander around looking for the right table to deliver the orders. Better table signage or numbering could help.
Menu and dietary options: Unfortunately, there are no vegan or vegetarian options on the menu. Even the salads come with meat by default, and while you can request them without it, you’ll still be charged the full price. There’s also little attention given to allergens, such as dairy, which are not clearly indicated on the menu.
Noise: The place gets quite loud, and installing acoustic panels or ceiling sound dampeners would make conversations much more pleasant.
Kitchen and ambiance: The open kitchen is visually appealing — you can watch the chefs at work, which adds a dynamic touch to the experience. However, the constant shouting between kitchen and wait staff affects the atmosphere and increases the noise level. A more discreet system could improve this. For example, at both L’Auberge du Pont de Collonges and Brasserie Le Nord (Bocuse) in Lyon, communication between kitchen and servers is done elegantly using soft chimes or light signals — no yelling needed. It shows that efficiency and calm can go hand in hand, even in a busy kitchen.
Extras: The venue itself is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of room for large groups. It also features big screens for watching sports games, creating a great environment for gatherings. Another big plus is the large, easily accessible parking lot — a convenience that’s not always easy to find in busy areas.
Final thought: Overall, it’s a vibrant place with great potential. A few updates in service processes, dietary inclusivity, noise management, and communication flow could make the experience even more enjoyable and memorable.

Went here as it is constantly recommended. It has a great atmosphere and the food, especially the cuscuz and picanha is amazing. However the service here from the waitstaff/ servers is horrible and rude. Can only recommend the food here & nothing else.
Vibrant atmosphere, good food and friendly service! Our server Jonathan was kind and attentive.
We were there 20 minutes before being serviced and another 30 minutes waiting for a drink we ordered which did not arrive so we left. Horrible.
A must go place. Excellent food and excellent service. They have an amazing playground for children for just $20 and it really makes a difference. There are tables with a tv and a Netflix to watch whatever you want while having a nice meal. You will not be disappointed, I promise.
Good food, big outdoor restaurant, big playground for kids, but you need to pay for it (10R$).
