Totally excellent... unless you are seeking a deserted beach. Great beach area, vendors of food, drink, and toys. Waves never too high, minimal undercurrent. Super crowded only on New Year's Eve. Parking can be a challenge, but a couple blocks walk will usually solve the problem.

The Cabo Branco Station - Science, Culture and Arts is a must-visit museum in Joao Pessoa, Brazil. Designed by the renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer, it opened in 2008 and offers a fascinating free tour with the option to explore exhibitions. The station also features a planetarium that visitors can enter for free. Situated near the Cabo Branco Lighthouse, this iconic landmark marks the easternmost point of the Americas where the sun rises first on its beaches.
A great place. You can see art, culture and technology.
Júlio S — Google review
Classic example of big Brazilian public work. Once the big investment is done (the propina ends and a big opening celebration), then starve the project for maintenance. It is not hopeless yet, but nearly nothing was open or in good condition. Hurrah! There were two maintenance workers. The observation deck was open and that's about it. I hear it used to be great.

Located at the easternmost point of the Americas, the Cabo Branco Lighthouse is a 1972 winged structure that offers breathtaking panoramic views. It symbolizes the extremity of the continent and is where the sun rises first in South America. Visitors can enjoy stunning vistas of the lighthouse, Solon de Lucena Park, Tambau Beach, and even experience an evening serenade to Ravel's Bolero at Praia do Jacare.
Tourist attraction with kiosks all around selling things. Nice lighthouse and surrounding area. There is not that much to see, but it worth going to once. Technically the most eastern point in all of the hemisphere/Americas.
Miguel S — Google review
Nice spot with a wonderful view on the easternmost point of the Americas. There are a few shops, restaurants and an artisan market and the area seemed relatively clean and safe. Recommended
Alexander L — Google review
It's a super important spot, the very oriental point of the American continent and unfortunately its kind of abandoned. There's a park with some very tourist shop... nothing special. I think local government should take care of that important spot of the continent.

The lighthouse seems inoperational and despite being marked as open, there's no way to enter. While the location and view spot is cool, as it is the Easternmost point of the Americas, I wish there was more to see here.

Ponta do Seixas, located 30 km from Joao Pessoa, is a picturesque coastal area with a rustic charm. The region boasts 20 km of coastline featuring towering cliffs and lush coconut trees. Costa do Conde comprises seven distinct beaches, each offering its own unique appeal. Visitors can explore the easternmost point of the Americas via a forested area, which also provides amenities such as snacks and souvenir shops. While popular on weekends, parking may come at a nominal fee.
Seixas Point, is the easternmost point in South America and therefore of both the American continents. Located in the Brazilian state of Paraiba near the capital city of Joao Pessoa, The name of the point derives from a traditional family from Paraíba whose patriarch owned a rural property near to the site. This ancestor of Portuguese origin, surnamed Rodrigues Seixas, settled in Paraíba in the 17th century. What I found amazing was that this geographic fact was not definitively established until September 5th, 1941. A lighthouse was constructed on a bluff very near here that most folks confuse as the actual point. Built in 1971, it offers the best view of the white sandy beach that is the Ponta. Also located nearby is the Estação Cabo Branco (popularly known as the Estação Ciência or “Science Station”). The building was designed by the famed architect Oscar Niemeyer (the guy who designed the entire city of Brasilia, the Brazilian capital). If you're a tourist in the area, this is definitely a place you should visit.

(Translated by Google) Google Maps sent me to a farm that leads to the Navy lighthouse. The crook charged me 10 reais to enter, but it wasn't there. Then I went to Ponta Seixas. Aside from being one of Brazil's four extreme points, the beach isn't beautiful. It was worth the story for my son. I heard it was even contaminated, but I didn't look into it because we didn't go in the water. (Original) O google maps me jogou errado numa fazenda onde sai no farol da marinha. Parque da Lagoa - Solon de Lucena, also known as Lagoa, is a popular park located in the heart of Joao Pessoa. It features a tree-shaded path and a waterside lawn that encircles a beautiful lake. The park is easily accessible by bus from the local bus station and is considered a central landmark in the city.
During daylight hours it is a nice park with a fair amount of people around. Would not recommend walking through it at night, maybe around the edges. Very beautiful. Often has rides and rollercoaster things on the weekends.

A city park around a small lagoon with a children’s playground, jogging track, outdoor fitness equipment, art exhibit space, and small amusement park. It is home to many beautiful beaches. On Friday nights, there are sunset programs starting at 5 PM and family-oriented programs over the weekends. It is a safe area, but there isn't too much to do around the area.

Nice beach, but apparently the water is not so clean because the sewage system is directly dumping contaminated water in it. This is especially not pleasant during high tide and is also not very healthy. The beach is beautiful with many stands along the way of the beach.
F. N — Google review
Cabo Branco and Tambaú are among the best beaches in the Northeast. No, not the prettiest, but for a place to just enjoy the beach, they are hard to beat. Relatively safe water, not too rough. Many quiosques offer food and drinks. For more youthful excitement, go North to the Intermares Beach where you will often find surfers. Thus, it is windier and rougher, but there is much more boating activity to watch.

Cabo Branco Beach is possibly the best beach in the city, mostly because of the infrastructure in the area: there are many hotels, beach bars, restaurants of all types (from pizza joints to fine dining establishments); you can rent bicycles to ride on the dedicated bike path that runs all along the coast of Joao Pessoa to Cabedelo. If you are a sun worshipper, you can rent a beach chair and an umbrella and sit on the golden sand, looking at the beautiful turquoise water that’s always warm. Cabo Branco Beach is flanked by 2 other beaches: Tambaú Beach and Seixas Beach which is where the easternmost point of the Americas is located. There are a lot of reasons to visit this beach and I highly recommend you come.

A massive church that is gorgeous inside. For an entry fee of R$15 (R$7.50 for students and elderly), one receives a private guided tour (in English, Spanish, or Portuguese) where someone working in the church walks you through each of the rooms, explains the history, and shows you around. Besides the altar and the main room, one also gets to see the chapel, the sacristy, exhibition space, the cloister, the chorus, and many other rooms. It was truly such a cool experience to see the different styles with many baroque elements.

A traditional Brazilian restaurant where one pays by the 100g of food one takes from a buffet. There are plenty of options and lots to eat. They have an interesting system where upon entering, you're handed a card. That card record the total weight each time one gets food. Before leaving, one needs to pay off the money on the card. Overall, a fun experience with lots of good things to eat.

I recently visited Mangai João Pessoa and absolutely loved the experience. The décor and vibe truly evoke the spirit of Northeastern Brazil—rustic wooden tables, vibrant artwork, and relaxed music make for a beautifully cozy meal. As someone who appreciates vegetarian and vegan dining, I was pleased to find a thoughtful selection of vegetable-based sides, salads, stews, and even the delightful local dessert called cartola. The buffet-by-weight format gives you the freedom to build a colorful, flavorful plate at a fair price. While the venue offers local meat and fish dishes, there’s still plenty of choice for plant-based diners. Overall, it’s a warm, welcoming, and atmospheric spot to savor regional flavors—even without animal protein. Definitely worth checking out if you enjoy ambiance and flexibility in your meal! I paid 99 reais/kg. We went on 28-29 Juy 2025

Mangai is a quality buffet restaurant that offers typical food and beverages at a reasonable price. This specific Mangai restaurant in João Pessoa welcomed my old lady and me as though we were special guests. That was the best treat.
Albertino F — Google review
I have eaten here for 20+ years. Although food is still very good unfortunately the service has gone very bad. Orders don't only take a very long time, but orders are also getting forgotten. But as long as the food keeps its standard I'll keep coming.
Dan B — Google review
We had a large family group and everyone was very happy. You choose what you want from over 100 items and pay a flat rate per 100g of food. Drinks are separate but very reasonable. Pomegranate juice was made there and amazing. Get the jar (pitcher) because one glass isn’t enough!
Scott L — Google review
Everyone recommends this place. Really wish the food was a tad better for the price, but I understand because of its buffet nature and the amount of people that there is some dip in quality. It is one of the nicer buffet places in the city. I would recommend to other people, but not enough to bring every visitor to the city here. Service was kind and the atmosphere was happy.
Miguel S — Google review
Really good food, a wide variety of all you can imagine in dishes, from savory to sweet. Nice environment that celebrates tradition. It might be a bit expensive if you get easily tempted by all the deliciously looking dishes.

Parque Zoobotânico Arruda Câmara, also known as Bica, is a delightful combination of a zoo and botanical garden located in Joao Pessoa. Established in 1921, this 26.8-hectare park is home to over 580 animal species and a variety of plants. Visitors can encounter elephants, lions, monkeys, birds, and many other fascinating creatures amidst lush greenery.
One of the most beautiful places in João Pessoa
Deyvid O — Google review
An interesting park filled with many different species of endemic and endangered animals. It has a small entry fee of BR$3 (cash only). The first part are cages filled with animals, while after walking for about a kilometer, one arrives at a small pond with food stalls. Overall, it's not too big, but it is a cool place to visit to see some animals.
James — Google review
It is a really cool place and I had fun but there are few animals and it's reforming so I couldn't go to some places there
Juliana — Google review
I am so torn on these places. On one hand, all of the animals have been rescued from illegal trades, so they have been given a second chance on life. The problem is that some of the enclosures are small and the animals don't seem to have stimulation. I saw quite a few animals walking around in circles and clearly not well mentally. Having said that, a nice place to see animals and learn about different species.
Dylan — Google review
Very ☹️ disappointed by the size of this zoo.Joao Pessoa is the capitol city is growing but this zoo is pitiful...
Ken W — Google review
Interesting and a full-on jungle for lots of it but very little actual information on the animals and no information at all on the flora. A local biologist/conservationist did say part of the redecoration process is to produce better flyers for the above mentioned. Well worth a visit for the beautiful experience and place - especially if the massive bird cage with macaws is open for you to walk through. Parking is free but the usual suspects (flanelinhas) Will be there to help you "maneuver" and expect a Real coin from you

Just ok. If there are other things you’d like to do while in João Pessoa, prioritize them, and don’t bother going to this very unattractive, small zoo.

The Church of São Frei Pedro Gonçalves, originally built in the 17th century and later reconstructed in 1843, showcases eclectic architecture and holds historical significance. The church underwent restoration, revealing ruins dating back to 1692 and even earlier sources from 1585. It is dedicated to Saint Friar Pedro Goncalves, a Dominican friar canonized for his role as protector of sailors. Visitors can now admire the exposed remnants of the old architecture following the restoration.

(Translated by Google) Better preserved than the neighboring Hotel Globo, this church bears traces of archaeological research, seeking to explain the phases through which its construction went. There is information that tells a little about this construction and spaces show the first foundations, before the church took on its current shape. It is a simple temple, but full of history. It is a shame that cars park right outside and obstruct the view. Interestingly, going down the hill in front of the church, there is another poorly resolved historical landmark: the point where the mortal remains of the revolutionary Amaro Gomes Coutinho, hanged in Recife in 1817, were exposed.

(Translated by Google) Beautiful church, located in the Varadouro neighborhood, practically on the banks of the Sanhauá River, where the city began to be built. The current building has undergone several renovations and is in excellent condition and open to visitors (although with restricted opening hours). Inside, the foundations of the original chapel, which began to be built in the mid-18th century, are preserved as an archaeological site. In addition to its historical interest, the sunset and the view of the Sanhauá-Paraíba rivers are worth seeing. Another unmissable event is the Procession of Our Lady of the Conception (December 8th), which leaves the church, enters the community of Porto do Capim and continues along the river to the "Croa da Santa" on the Paraíba River, where an open-air mass is held. I highly recommend it! Hotel Globo, a historic building dating back to 1929, has been transformed into a cultural center and art gallery. Located in Joao Pessoa, it offers stunning views of the Sanhauá River and the sunset. The hotel has hosted many celebrities and is considered the first high-standard hotel in the city. It is situated near several historical landmarks such as churches from the 17th century and colonial houses representing various architectural styles.

Located in Praca Dom Adauto, Igreja e Mosteiro de São Bento is a stunning Baroque-style church with beautiful wooden ceilings that provide perfect acoustics. The exterior of the church needs better preservation. Visitors can enjoy Gregorian music and attend mass from Tuesday to Friday, with guided tours available and the monastery being a must-see attraction.
Beautiful facade. Google hours are incorrect, it wasn't open.
Josiah W — Google review
The first church was built in 1585 with the current one started in 1721 and completed in 1749 with further renovations over the centuries. The church is built in a simple Baroque style, unlike other Benedictine order churches. It was one of the first and main places of worship in João Pessoa.

Nice and good quality. Better selection at the Artisanal Center in Tambaú, but items are better quality here. Also check the vendors on the beach walk at night. Celerio (Hotel Globo) downtown is another option with different items.

Catedral Basílica de Nossa Senhora das Neves, also known as Joao Pessoa Cathedral, is a Catholic church situated in the historic center of Joao Pessoa, the capital of Paraiba in Brazil. It was constructed in 1586 to honor Lady of the Snows by the early settlers of Paraiba. The cathedral is well-preserved and boasts impressive architecture. While some express concerns about its maintenance, others emphasize its beauty and peaceful atmosphere for prayer and contemplation.
Beautiful basilica, much newer than the nearby convents (built in the 1880s). Not very remarkable, but a nice stop with free bathrooms.
Josiah W — Google review
Translated to the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of the Snows, it was first built in 1586, the building was first made of mud, then rebuilt in the 17th and 18th centuries, before having its final time of rebuilding in 1881. Inside, one can find sacred images and large masses. Surprisingly, this cathedral has a whole Instagram account dedicated to it.

(Translated by Google) Historical Significance: It is the main church and the first religious building in the capital of Paraíba, dating back to the beginning of colonization (1586). Its history is directly linked to the birth of the city (founded on August 5th, the Day of Our Lady of the Snows). It is a living testament to the religious and historical legacy of Paraíba. Architectural and Artistic Value: The current architecture is classified as eclectic (the result of several renovations over the centuries, which mix elements of past styles with more modern visions), which in itself is a point of interest. It stands out for its rich internal artistic heritage, including the main altar, sacred images (many centuries old), and stained glass windows that create a contemplative atmosphere. It is a listed heritage site, recognizing its cultural value.

(Translated by Google) It's a great tour on both sunny and rainy days. The ticket is very affordable and must be purchased at the box office at the entrance to the complex: R$4 for a full ticket, R$2 for a half ticket. I included a photo of the times and other information. The film lasts 30 minutes and is very immersive. I just found the information area that imitates a computer screen to be very small. With such a large screen area, I believe it could be larger to make it easier to see. But all the information is very interesting and well explained, and at times it seems like the roof is actually open. The explanation of the constellations with their drawings on the stars is a highlight. I recommend it! A scenic overlook with amazing views of the ocean, Mirante SkyBeach is a great place to take in the sights and sounds of waves crashing on the shore. There are also plenty of picnic tables and chairs for visitors to relax in, making it a great spot for day trips or weekend getaways.
This observatory is on the 51st floor, which doesn’t sound that high, but it’s one of the tallest buildings in the city and it sits on a high neighborhood. This is also the only observatory in the city, so it’ll have to do. It’s actually very nice—with observation decks on 2 floors. From the top of this building, you can see all of the beaches of the city below, as well as the easternmost tip of South America. It’s quite beautiful and the entry fee is very reasonable (R$20, or about $4 US). The other really good thing about coming to visit Sky Beach is that after you've spent as much time as you’d like here, you can go down 1 more floor to visit Sky Bar, where they have indoor and outdoor seating, a large cocktail menu, as well as a decent little food menu. If you live in the area or are just visiting, it’s definitely worth a visit—I highly recommend it!

It is interesting to learn about the history of the place, but there is not much of an exhibition or large collection that can attract those who are not familiar with it. Busto Tamandaré is a popular spot in Joao Pessoa, featuring a promenade with reddish sand, palm-lined walkways, and landmark public artworks. It's known for being a great place to take pictures and start a leisurely walk along the shore. The area hosts various events and boasts street performers on weekends.
Gorgeous views of the beach and walkable streets surrounding it. And it can even light up at night! It’s a very chill walk with friends or a partner! 🏖️ Sometimes there’s a feira (street fair) that lasts until around 10 pm on Mondays. They sell jewelry, dolls, and more. Some places take card but not all! At the Busto Tamandaré there are many salesmen/saleswomen trying to get you to buy photos they take of you at the sign but you honestly don’t need to entertain that. Get your picture taken by someone you know or meet others in line and offer to take photos of one another! Maybe make a new friend, some Brazilians love to chat! 📸 Also, it’s better to show up earlier in the night time than close to closing because there’s less people (the wait can last however long people take for their photos) in line for the same night sky backdrop. 🌌🌃

The Center between Cabo Branco and Tambaú. Very Nice, but "Nothing to do but take in the view." This whole plaza was recently renewed. It is a spectacle (good) at night and a great place to take in the views during the day. Beach-side bars and restaurants line the beach going both directions. Go! Parking is very tough. Consider Uber.

The bust of Tamandaré is a small statue on the beach in Joao Pessoa. “So what?” Good question. It’s more famous as a meeting point than as an actual destination or piece of art worth a visit. It sits at the end (beginning?) of one of the main roads (Av. Pres. Epitácio Pessoa) in this capital city and divides the 2 most popular beaches here (Tambaú Beach and Cabo Branco Beach). Many locals will say “meet me at the Bust of Tamandaré”, especially when there’s a live show or some other activity going on in the city. It’s named for Admiral Tamandaré (Joaquim Marques Lisboa, Marquis of Tamandaré) of the Imperial Navy of Brazil. It’s a spot that you’ll probably miss if you’re not aware of it, but it’s worth visiting because the city’s “I Love Joao Pessoa” sign is right nearby (always worth a photo for those visiting). The 2 beaches are both very good and the area has many restaurants, hotels and bars.

(Translated by Google) Formosa Beach, in Cabedelo/PB, is a charming place that offers an unforgettable experience. The vibrant green color of the sea is simply fascinating, and the tranquility during low tide transforms the place into a true natural pool, perfect for relaxing and enjoying with the family. The natural beauty and peaceful vibe of the place are an invitation to slow down and enjoy every moment. Despite some seaweed present in the sand, this does not take away from the charm of the place. It is clear that the beach is undergoing a revitalization process along the shore, which promises to make the environment even more pleasant for visitors. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming, ideal for those seeking a refuge away from the hustle and bustle, and is especially recommended for families with children. In addition, the contrast between the serenity of low tide and the more intense movement of high tide brings an interesting dynamic to the place. I always recommend checking the tide table to better plan your visit. It is a beach that has everything to please both those seeking relaxation and those who enjoy moments of contemplation amidst nature. The monument, designed to be a landmark of this geographic "extreme," is one of the attractions of Ponta do Seixas and carries a very beautiful and relevant symbolism for the region. Unfortunately, the visit was a bit disappointing. The monument itself is damaged, with a piece missing, which compromises its aesthetics and the experience of those who visit it. Furthermore, the overall impression is of poor conservation of the entire surrounding area. The current condition does not do justice to the importance of the site. As a result, the overall experience fell far short of expectations. It's a shame, as the site has enormous potential. Given the circumstances, I do not recommend a visit unless restoration and conservation improvements are undertaken.

The space is small, but this makes it suitable for more intimate presentations or those with lower production costs.

The Pinacoteca da UFPB is currently closed due to the temporary closure of the Central Library for extensive renovations. During this time, the Technical Reserve and archives can be found on the first floor of the Rectory. It's not uncommon for museums to close for building renovations, as seen with other institutions around the world. Despite its temporary closure, the university remains a beautiful place to explore.
(Translated by Google) Beautiful university (Original) Bela universidade
