Booked this hotel because it had good reviews and was located in a beautiful location right on the promenade. Was absolutely satisfied by the location. Check in was easy and the lady behind the counter was particularly friendly/helpful, answering any/all of our questions. Maybe it was an oversight on my part by not seeing this before our stay (and I likely would've booked this hotel anyway even if I did know) but unfortunately, the hotel does not have an elevator and we were placed on the second (really the third floor); We were coming to Nice for 7 days followed by almost a week elsewhere in Europe, so we had lots of bags. It was not particularly pleasant having to carry our suitcases up 1 flight of stairs just to get to the lobby, another 1.5 flights to get to the "first" floor, then a last tight & spiral staircase to get up to our room. Once in the room, ceilings were low (maybe about 7 feet high? - thankfully neither myself nor my girlfriend are *that* tall) and air conditioning wasn't particularly strong. Despite this, I was more than happy with the hotel.
My biggest qualm with the hotel, though, was a run-in that I had with one of the staff members. Upon returning for dinner during our first night, we asked him if we could bother him for a bottle of shampoo/conditioner because the bottle in our shower was empty - no big deal and we weren't upset about that. He was pleasant enough: asked for our room number and said he had to grab the bottle from elsewhere, then he'd bring it up to us. We got up to the room and realized we'd unfortunately given him the wrong room number (202 instead of 203, our fault). Our room was only located on the "second" floor with 1 other room, so we figured we'd (1) just leave our door slightly open for the next 5 or so minutes (until he got up there) so we could hear him walk up the squeaky, tight, spiral staircase and we could grab the bottle for him and (2) call the front desk incase he was still down there to tell him. Unfortunately, our phone in our room didn't work and we never heard him come up. ~ 5-10 minutes later, I decided I'd go down and get the bottle from him. I accepted that this was *my fault* since I'd given him the wrong room number so I didn't mind whatsoever. Except, upon getting downstairs, he was visibly and verbally frustrated and annoyed with me. I apologized, saying I'd unfortunately and accidentally given him the wrong room number and tried to call but our phone didn't work. He just kept repeating that we gave him the wrong room number (news flash: I know, and apologized for it) and we should've called (I knew this, too, as I tried to explain to him that the phone wasn't working even though I plugged/unplugged it). He didn't want to hear anything I had to say, so eventually I just smiled, nodded, and walked back up to my room.
This one run in was a shame because our stay was otherwise pleasant. This run in put a bad taste in my mouth. It's possible we'd return to this hotel in the future (and yes, we'd make sure we had the right room number next time!), but we'd also probably just opt to stay somewhere else along/near the promenade where we wouldn't feel like a bother to a staff member for making a silly mistake.
