We got to go into the blacksmith shop and the blacksmith was really cool making keys for all the buildings and makes trivets for the gift shop as well. We ate a catered lunch and one of their spaces inside and then we're able to explore the farm and village afterwards. The house was built between 1817-1834 by architect Phillip Hooker. It was home to five generations of the Clarke family. It is constructed mostly of limestone. You will notice the four Grecian columns in the front of the house. From inside of the house you will notice the open courtyards. The porch is another gem of this house as it has a wonderful view of the lake. The house can also be seen from the lake. On your way to the house you will pass by on what is thought to be America’s oldest covered bridge. It is fairly easy to get a tour here and you can call ahead of time for hours. You can enter through Glimmerglass State Park to get here, but there is also a separate road leading to the mansion. After a mansion tour Glimmerglass State Park offers a lot to do. Cooperstown is famous for its many attractions including the Baseball Hall of Fame and Farmers Museums. Hyde Hall should rank right up there with them. It’s that great!

We just spent 2 nights at the lake view in a deluxe room in the building up on the hill (photo and photo of the view toward the lake). We have been here before and the stay was not great. We had issues with the room. This time everything was great. There was no problem with the room and we enjoyed the stay. The staff was kind, friendly, and very helpful. The room was clean and it's location on the property was very good. My wife loves to swim and enjoyed getting in a super clean Otsego lake. Because we we on the hill, the walk down to the lake was a little bit. We were there to enjoy a production at Glimmerglass. We attend almost every year. Sometimes we do not stay overnight. But I prefer to stay 2 nights. We can also visit the Fenimore and take our time. We shall return but I think we will take a cottage next time. They seem very nice and they definitely have a lot of room. We also lucked out on the weather. Thanks again to the staff. We returned after the baseball hysteria ended for the year. Most of the people in passing did not make me nor my friend feel welcomed.. I parked my black car a few blocks away from the main scenery to then come back to it with marks that were not there on the hood of my car and front windshield. I believe that when it comes to race, people have a right to their opinions but to make a person who isn't the same color as you feel like an outcast is beyond belief... I have a right to visit any place that I choose and when doing so, should not be treated any differently. The few individuals that I ran across were not friendly at all and I left quite disappointing along with a marked up car. 😞
