I decided to try their German chocolate cake. I was pleasantly surprised that it had the perfect amount of sweetness. I do not like overly sweet cakes like most the kinds sold at the store. This had a perfect texture and I loved the coconut custard filling. I’ve since visited Maxie B’s a few more times and tried a variety of their cakes. My #1 favorite is the Black Forest cake which they usually only have around winter time but I luckily was there on a day when they had made a whole one. Black Forest cake is my favorite cake of all time and they did it perfectly, using two types of cherries (sour and dark sweet) and a perfect filling and lovely whipped topping. I would get this every time if they had it year round! My other favorites so far are the key lime cake, the old fashioned chocolate cake, the chocolate mousse cake and the pineapple coconut. The German chocolate is probably my second favorite after the Black Forest. Every cake I’ve tried though has been excellent! I only wish their prices were a little better… $9 for a slice of German chocolate cake is a bit steep. Most of their cakes range between $7 - $8 a slice.But I know they use higher quality ingredients than most other places so I don’t mind treating myself occasionally.

I came away mostly impressed with their food but concerned for their future. The kitchen looked well staffed but the lone waitress/bartender trying to serve the 20 or so customers was run ragged. My Polish boy sandwich was flavorful and large with a great slaw and bbq sauce. Was told I got the last one available for the day. The fries were spectacular. Unfortunately, my husband and I chose to go on a Sunday and the overall experience was a bit disappointing. We arrived and signed in for the wait at 10:45AM. I cannot digest gluten, and had one of the best gluten free scones I've ever had.
