The staff was 5* but the food… we were quite disappointed. Might be due to the perspectives of a five star chef and his son but I will give the credit where it’s due! The ribs were lovely, however the cabbage wasn’t far off raw. My father had the lemon sole which still had the scales on the skin. He said it had seemed to be steamed or cooked rather than grilled as it had no sear to it and the flavour was not there. The fish had also seemed to have been defrosted, noticed in the taste that it was not fresh. My Cajun stew- the clams and prawns seemed to be fresh which was amazing - however; I noticed when I bit into the corn and tasted the sauce that it had an acidic taste and that it was off. I instantly told the waiter quietly (as I noticed the gentleman next to me had just ordered the same thing) and she had offered me something else off the menu. The lamb rump was lovely, however for £26, we thought you would get more than 5 small pieces of lamb. My pavlova was really nice however my fathers affogato seemed to have half of the ice cream scoop missing??? I was as confused as he was as we looked around at the people who had ordered an ice cream and had a completely different portion. When we had gone to pay we were charged the full price. We had mentioned that it wasn’t right to be charged for a meal that was spoiled and they had taken it off of the bill and were apologetic. I only feel bad as my father didn’t have too much patience after he noticed they didn’t have the intention to take it off themselves without us mentioning something and him choosing to hold his tongue based off of his experience. I used a spare bath towel to sit on as it was stained. I had booked in for dinner for the 3 nights , but the fish and chips were greasy batter and spot the white fish? I promptly cancelled the next 2 night dinner and ended up going to the nearby Sainsbury’s for food to eat. The choice on the menu was so poor, and steak and lamb had an £18.95 supplement! I’m afraid breakfast wasn’t great either. The hotel is in a good location but needs a lot of money spending on it. Double glazing was blown in several of the dining room windows, others were rotten and whole place looked as if it needed a good clean! I’ve since gone back and looked at reviews and somehow they’re managing to put the good ones at the top, any criticism is lower down, just wish I’d looked more carefully as at £220 plus a night it’s a Rip Off !! When I compare to the other 3 hotels I stayed in on my trip this was no comparison doesn’t even come close! No wonder they don’t send you a link to rate your stay, just a sentence thanking you for staying.

Firstly the shower was not working and there was no maintenance on site. So we had to be moved and were given separate rooms. Receptionist had no idea of rooms and assigned us an occupied room. It was shocking that basic hotel manners, privacy and safety are disregarded. It's a small town hotel but privacy and safety are prime. Fri 15th August at 17:30. We did the dreaded of ordering the food and then checking the reviews afterwards and I'm not gonna lie we began to worry a bit. Food came and it was absolutely lovely. I ordered the crab gratin and it was probably the nicest meal I had during our week in Cornwall. I would like to thank the girl in reception who gave me this upgrade. I had made 2 seperate bookings as I had a room upgrade via booking.com and the next day that room was not available. When I did the check-in and told this she was like let me see what I can do and I got this 2 single bed Seaview upgrade instead of the single Seaview and standard that I booked. I had dinner once in the hotel which was good and the breakfast was delicious as well which was included in the price. The view from the room is beautiful in the morning you can see the sunrise and you can see the St Michael's Mount from your room. Due note that to walk from the station you have to cross through town which is uphill or you have to walk around via the harbour.

There are some great things about this hotel, and there are some things that they certainly could do better. The staff are amazing and extremely helpful and very friendly. The breakfast was good. The dining room is nice, food was good and has great sea views. The bar/pub was nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but it could certainly use a lot more seating. They’ve got a lot of upholstered chairs, but they certainly could get a lot more seating if they change the type of seating that they have. Now for the bad; the rooms are very old and need updating. Even just some paint where everything’s chipped and redo the grout in the bathtub/shower where all the mildew is would be helpful. The bathtub also needs a shower mat. It was extremely slippery and could be dangerous for people that are older and have balance issues. The bathroom had old linoleum probably from the 1950s and that should be changed out. The bedding leaves a lot to be desired. The pillows were flat. The bed was very soft and saggy and the duvet insert was more like a flat pillow, which is very strange. I’ve never seen anything like it. Most duvets are either feather or some alternative, but to have a flat thick piece of foam inside is very weird. The sheets were also too small for the bed and would not stay tucked in and the mattress pad wouldn’t stay on. Staff very help both prior to and during our stay. Family room was two linked rooms, so kids slept separately. No views, but for one night it didn't matter. We had to catch the ferry early in the morning, before the hotel starts serving breakfast, but they did provide us with takeaway breakfasts in boxes, including pastries, fruit and yoghurt. This was very good and really helpful, but make sure you request these in advance.
