It’s absolutely beautiful and has a very unique design. There is a Cspire stage with plenty of tables. There is a swing, fountain and so much more. They have the 2025 Invitational Artist and Jerrod Partridge is the best hands down. His art is simply beautiful with his handmade paper. There were other artist who caught eye but he is THE BES!! Stephanie and Stacy were so very kind and professional. You must check out the gift shop. The children you see in photo are in their summer camp. They wanted to show me how they hola hoop. The one little girl in video made it clear to me that she was THE BEST! The museum has an area where you can draw an object that represents you! They have a book nook and area to create art. I definitely will return to enjoy these areas. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum.

We visited on a Saturday and the place was not too busy. We paid $15.00 each to experience all the exhibits, and it was well worth it. The art collection is not the most impressive I have seen as there were no works from any of the great masters. With that being said, the exhibits left me feeling uneasy and had an impact I had never experienced during previous visits to other art museums. The "What happened to Dr. Smith" exhibit was really profound and provided an intimate connection with the artist in dealing with what obviously was a highly personal, and I am sure painful, journey. The artwork conveyed the sadness of the devastating consequences of mental illness and the history of the suffering of the afflicted, going from a promising medical practice to a state run asylum. I was so impressed by the personal connection the artist achieved in researching his grandfather's plight, and translating it into such an engaging, emotional experience for me, through some brush strokes on canvas. The museum also explored other uncomfortable topics through the art on display, dealing with race and other difficult subjects. As I said, I have never had an experience where the art seemed to resonate so deeply to feelings that left me somewhat uncomfortable, but isn't that what art should do? I definitely recommend the experience.

Should not be a problem now. The exhibit house displays her awards for her writing and some of her items that she owned. There are signs that tell a little about her life. This is where you start and wait for the tour guide. Once you go next door with the tour guide you get to explore Eudora's house as it was while she lived there. I really liked her books strewn about the house, it made me connect with her as that's they way my books are often displayed :-) Eudora had approximately 5,000 books. I've got to step up my collection! Ha! It's pretty cool to see where she worked and hear stories of her life. Eudora was a prolific writer, writers write! Her garden was lovingly restored to its former glory with help from Eudora's photos. She climbed out of her upstairs window on the roof to take pictures of the flowers and garden rooms below. The docent was extremely knowledgeable and engaging. Although the tour was 2 hours long it seemed much shorter and was well worth the 4 hour drive we took to get there. One other thing to note, Wednesdays have free admission, though the cost on other days is worth it.

But my wife was a fan. So we stopped here on a literary tour of the South. I was impressed with the house and gardens. Like any museum, it is frozen in time. Books are stacked on sofas, beds, and chairs, just as they would have been if you visited Eudora in her life. You get an unfiltered peek into her life. The visitor center gives your a good primer on her, her writings, and her life. Start your tour there with a 20 minute film. Then explore the displays therein. All of Eudora Welty books seem to be laying as she may have left them before passing. There are 3,000 books in her home. 2,000 are at MDAH. She donated the house to MDAH long before passing. Her parents purchased the home in 1925. They wanted to live across the street from Belhaven College. There is so much history in the home and the garden is so beautiful and inviting. I also love the side pitch attached to home. I highly recommended taking the time to visit this site if you are a history and/or garden lover.

Made our way to this civil rights museum from Nola with everything going on in the world and it did not disappoint. I honestly think MS was worser during slavery than Louisiana. I loved the separate rooms to sit down and listen to the audio files of slavery. We hated to hear it but it was necessary. I’m most definitely returning and bringing the children. This museum highlights all of MS history and it doesn’t hide who MS is. I must say tho as a person who has heard some of the stories from someone who was a child during these times, seeing it in a museum makes it surreal. Parts of the story is triggering but well worth the learning experience. It’s part of who we are as Mississippians and I’ll be proud to tell someone to put this on there places to visit if they are traveling through the area.

When you first open the door you are greeted by an older women and gentlemen, both very nice folks. They have you watch about a 10 minute video on Mississippi sports, very nice short film. At first glance, I was amazed how clean and nice the museum was. As I proceeded to all of the memorabilia, I was impressed on the set up and how much stuff they had on display for all of the different athletes. I highly recommend making this one of your stops when visiting Jackson. You won't be disappointed if you're a sports fan.

But the one zoo keeper said they have plans to spend money on fixing up the restaurant. So, I understand food brings people, people bring money, but your animals are suffering, you need to put the animals first. If you look up news reports and history, this zoo has a recent history of sick and dying animals, and a city that doesn't support it. If I lived in this area I would use social media to raise funds, got to do something! Ever see the show “Bar Rescue”? There needs to be a show called “Zoo Rescue” because this place is falling apart & is in need of help. These animals need to find a better place to call their home. At any other zoo there is always staff readily available to help you or educate you on the animals, but here there wasn’t a soul around to talk to. There is no where to get food here as it looks like the cafe shut down years ago. This place could be a really beautiful zoo if someone could take over & re do it. Admission was $8 per person & that won’t even cover food for the day for one animal. I came across a lot of leaks as well near some exhibit inside by the otter statue (which by the way looks like it hasn’t been dusted in a decade) I also noticed A LOT of dead trees that need to be cut / removed because once that tree falls, a person or animal could get hurt. There are a bunch of broken fences as well. There’s a spot by the rhinos “home” that has a spot where you can easily just hop over it & go inside his area. The flamingos need more water as well as the rhino. I have a feeling this place doesn’t give them fresh water often whether it’s the bath in, cool down in, or even drink! I left here feeling so sad & sick to my stomach. Please, someone help this place!! Save these animals from this horrible environment & bring them to a zoo that is qualified to provide for them & a zoo that WANTS what’s best for these creatures….it sure as heck isn’t here! I also came across a sign that said “The Zoo Keeper. Dedicated to Professional Animal Care. In loving memory of Zoo Keeper Richard K. Wells, 1953-1988” I’m guessing the professional animal care died when this guy did unfortunately. This is such a sorry excuse for a zoo.

It felt like walking into a Post Apocalyptic zombie movie. 30% of the enclosures were empty or retired. 100% of them need improvements and landscaping. There is minimal enrichment and every animal looked miserable. The Zebra and Otter were ALONE, these animals are pack creatures and need a buddy. The poor Goose in the "water" exhibit was trying honk and struggling. Also, the "water" exhibit had leaks EVERYWHERE with buckets of stagnant water laying around. The pathways are trip hazards, super uneven and broken grounds. There is a train very close by and every time one went through, the primates would go crazy yelling! The Rhino has no dirt to throw on itself, nothing to do, and laid around looking sad. The only semi-ok animals were the Flamingos!!!!! The dining venue is shut down and boarded up. The reptile enclosure was MISERABLEY HOT and one of the rattlesnakes appeared to be missing. The cougar was pacing and growling and I didnt see anywhere they could hide to cool off. We didnt even get to see the pygmy hippo or hogs because the path was closed. I was there almost 2hrs and saw a total of 10 guests go thru. The "Gift Shop" was miserable with Dollar Store quality items. The Bear habitat had barely a trickle of water for the little valley and he was walking around in small circles favoring his right eye like his vision was off. Now I know why there was a "NO REFUNDS" sign out front. There is no staff anywhere to be found to help educate or guide through exhibits. Looking up ways to report them, I found articles stating they had until 09/01/25 to repair the leaks they so clearly hadnt. Every creature in there deserves somewhere better to live their lives. The "Collins Zoo" would have been a better alternative to the absolute abhorrent state that the "Jackson Zoological Park" is in, and we all know what happened to that zoo...

Will start by saying that This zoo does need maintenance. At first, we didn’t think we would see any animals but as we continued to walk, we did get to see quite a few of them. Some of the exhibits are closed and empty. The cafe was not open. The one “food truck” that was there only had shaved ice or as some would call them, snow cones. She had no food. None of the vending coke machines outside worked. So only place to get a drink or snack (chips, crackers, gum, etc.) would be inside of the gift shop. Let me start by saying the staff were wonderful. Everyone talked to my 3yo and I as we passed by. But we were there from noon to 4 and only saw five employees total the entire time. One at the entrance for tickets, one at the carousel, one driving by on a golf cart and two zoo keepers walking by that stopped and talked to us. The animals seemed well taken care of and happy but the zoo was practically crumbling down around them. There are new exhibits up since I last went in 2017. I really enjoy coming here. I learn something new everytime. This museum is for people of all ages. Not only do my children really like coming, but my husband as well. The Christmas party was nice. Some of the staff were a little upset because they were trying to close before 8 when the program was over and wanted to put up everything, but other staff allowed us to tour at our own pace as well as enjoy the refreshments that were being served. I didn't see an ATM. $8.00 for adults, $7.00 for seniors, $6.00 for small children, and **that's for each movie you want to see**. There are currently three different films and they last about 40 minutes each. Younger children will likely only care for one of the three at this time. Call ahead and ask questions. As far as a planetarium, I was expecting to relax and watch stars for awhile to a different degree than was shown. I have a high school student taking Astronomy and this was the main reason for our visit. There is nothing else to do here, but see a few pictures on the wall and sit and wait for the next film to start. There are a few old educational displays that are not plugged in or lit up, an unused popcorn machine and an empty Coca-Cola cooler. There are a few dollar store quality toy items for sale inside the display cases. I would just bring some glow necklaces and bracelets from the dollar store and surprise the kids with them and a Moon Pie or pack of space ice cream when you arrive. The best seats for viewing are the back rows. I am sensitive to movement, so there were a few segments in the films that made me feel like the room was spinning around slowly like a carousel or like the entire floor was turning upside down, slowly to the right, but I'm sure not everyone is that sensitive to notice. Some of the other reviews mention broken seats which we did see. The seat backs are tilted back at an angle but are not recliners. There are arm rests between all the seats, that don't move, so these would not accommodate larger visitors. Think of old, narrow movie theater or auditorium seats. We also found alot of wooden sticks from eaten rock candy lollipops on the floor. My husband said the theater smelled musty to him. The staff here is very friendly and can help you find other things to see in the area. Educators can call for field trip packets and information.

Especially after delivering such a powerful sermon moments before. Dr. King's work should always be honored. The queso dip for an appetizer is smashing. My husband ordered Salmon and it was WONDERFUL but portion sized smaller than a credit card. I found it amusing they announce to new guests that the portions are small before ordering. Since the seating & front service was a bit chaotic, I thought they announced the small portions because they were running out of food. However, our server Brian did a great job. Being seated was a bit chaotic and lengthy for the amount of employees that were running around. It would have made the atmosphere more pleasant if things were managed better. The inside dining is fairly comfortable but not as nice as the food would call for. The projection screen with old movies playing is a plus if you can see it. I can see why people waited much longer to be seated outside. The flowers were in full bloom and made it picturesque. Overall, this is a wonderful place to dine. The lack of a 5th star in the 4 star rating is because the bathrooms were unclean and in great need of repair. From the ceiling tiles to a stopped up 1 of 2 ladies toilets, the bathroom was old and made me wonder if the kitchen was in the same poor condition. By food quality alone, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who has a palate for fine food.

It’s very fast paced..we placed our order as soon as we walked in the door ..a lil too quickly for what I am comfortable with but before we even had our drinks made the server was walking out with our food! Large portions and served hit! It was delicious! We both ordered chopped brisket sandwiches with slaw and fries and my husband ordered greens also! The food was so flavorful and the brisket had great bark and was moist! The bun was delicious and the sandwich was not soggy! They have a wide variety of sauces for everyone’s taste!! I loved the hot bbq sauce and the mustard sauce!! I highly recommend Pig and Pint for bbq lovers!!!!

One of the girls in the group recognized the cookie as being from Whole Foods, so I would not be surprised if everything came from a grocery store cookie, cupcake, or brownie.
