But since graffiti isn't really a priority during our travels, we dismissed the stellar ratings and made other plans. And then, while walking in Boise, we accidentally stumbled into Freak Alley. And we are so glad that we did! This isn't just graffiti. It's stunning artwork and you're completely immersed in it! The thoroughly covered bricks down the alley and around the corner on every square inch wall space is simply incredible. This was an unexpected trail-runners dream find! We were looking for some local trails to run on during a short stop-over, and wow! I thought we'd just find some old dusty road. Not so! We got in an 11.4 mile run, with outstanding views and limited trail traffic, especially in the more remote trail areas. Took the Kestrel, Crestline & Sidewinder route, and looped back. The admission price was not expensive. The grounds were clean and well kept. We visited on a weekday so there was no problem with crowds. The animals were housed in nice enclosures that allowed for very close-up viewing. I was amazed to stand next to a window and have a Bengal tiger walk by just on the other side. My granddaughter loved the Red Pandas and the Giraffe. Most of the exhibits had inside and outside viewing so visiting in varied weather should be available. The employees I interacted with were cheerful and helpful. The food options were limited but outside food is allowed. Drinking fountains are available at all the restrooms. Free ice water is available at the shack bar by the entry. Very kid friendly. They have experiences available to feed some of the animals. Small extra cost. Souvenirs and snacks are a little pricey. Very fun family friendly visit.

The surface is terrible for anyone with mobility challenges or special equipment, such as a mobility scooter. Off-leash dogs everywhere (and dog feces). Goose scat covers every square foot of the place. Surprisingly clean though and if you're close enough to the river, you can't hear all the highway traffic. Okay for family outings but if you're going solo, follow the Greenbelt for a mile or 2 to get away from all the annoying folks blasting crappy music for the entire park to hear. The geese won't bother you since they're pretty used to people, but you will have to work around them for the same reason. They just hiss (you would too if someone got too close to you or especially your kids) as long as you don't touch them or act like a goober. As for fishing, find a different spot. There ARE fish in the water, but people fish them all out within a few weeks of them stocking it because, for some reason, this pond and the others near it are not catch-and-release only. I've scouted this area about 10 times, and I'm not sure what the fish they stock here (basically just rainbow trout and a low number of bullhead cats and a few Bass) are even supposed to eat! 0 baitfish seen even during post-spawn seasons and the Stocking numbers for possible baitfish is basically a "why even bother" low number. Little to no insects apart from a few gnats some ants a few grasshoppers during the hottest months and rarely a praying mantis. No crawfish to be seen under the 300+ rocks I overturned. My guess is that these fish have to rely on whatever the river brings in for food or eventually travel to the river and head further downstream to find warmer waters with more natural food sources. I wish they would replace a lot of these groomed grassy areas they have all over with more native plants to bring more of the wildlife back. The current landscape has all the plants cut too far back from the water for the insects to want to call the place home. As of right now, the park only serves as a pit stop for most birds with only Geese, Ducks, and a few Coots and Red Winged Black Birds using it as a home as well as a few deer (pictured below) who are basically trapped along the miles greenbelt, forced to graze by the interstate and causing a dangerous situation for both humans and the deer. If i had spooked them in the slightest they would have ran right onto the interstate during rush hour since the concrete barrier is MAYBE only waist high. I give 2 stars instead of 1 because the place is usually very clean with an ample amount of strategically placed trash receptacles in almost every spot where it makes sense to have one. The Greenbelt is also a very pleasurable ride with quite a few different WELL PAVED paths to take which lead to places like riverside restaurants, The athletic park, and a quaint but fairly impressive (for the "no free fun allowed" state of Idaho at least) BMX park tucked away next to one of the trails. It's decent, but it needs A LOT of work. Maybe some fresh young minds can use their knowledge to whip this place into shape to be primarily for the wildlife with a few human accommodations instead of the other way around.

I was not expecting so many windows that allowed me to see fish and other critters. While the inside of the place was closed, walking around was enough. The rushing water and swaying trees throughout the walk make it a tranquil experience. Other highlights include a giant fake eagle’s nest and petroglyphs. Exceeded my expectations by a thousand and I hope it does for you too.

The only thing missing from these donuts are the holes!!! Some of the best donuts I have ever had. Definitely worth the price and drive. One of the Boston Creme’s equals about three Krispy Kreme donuts and so much better. The chocolate on top is thick and decadent with a decent amount of creme inside (could be a bit more though). My top pick would be the Girl Scout. Tastes like a Samoa Girl Scout cookie that has graduated from reform school and is now a super model. Salted Carmel and Fudge with toasted coconut on a perfectly fluffy slightly chewy donut! I would love to try them all! The seating area is classic modern upscale. You could have a business meeting here, bring a date, family or have an espresso and read a book. This place is what Starbucks used to be before it commercialized. Highly recommend!!! Aloha!
