Food is always great. Portion size, heat and flavour is good. Love the drama of the dry ice reveal too. Kingfisher on tap is a plus point. But the atmosphere was poor, there was nobody in there for the huge space which made it feel empty. There were too many staff on so they were all cleaning which made us feel like we were out staying our welcome. Going the loo was a shared experience with 3 staff members in there cleaning too. The guy who's stag it was had a whole pint of beer thrown over him (accidentally) but it was brushed off as a joke. Only had a half which did the job. It’s directly opposite the old Lyon’s salt works. Fairly big inside and well done out. It’s pretty cosy. There’s a games room with a good pool table and darts board. The building probably has a great history but I couldn’t get to the bottom of it on my brief visit. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly and chatty. Dog friendly. The kitchen isn’t up and running as of yet but hopefully will soon. The carpark is big and flat enough for a van stop over but you’ll have to ring ahead as they won’t take anything bigger than a transporter or transit size. The layout of the pub where we were sat was horse based, which was right up my street, some of the tables were set out on old cast iron horse stalls, very impressive…. Bridles on the walls, along with past Polo players and polo mallets…. We both went straight to entrée…. A Lady who worked at IKEA many moons ago recommended us to go there…. Janet Hughes….. it didn’t disappoint…. Thank you Jan…. So on that note we both went for the fish and chips…. With proper soaked overnight mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce, plus a round of bread and butter each. All of the food was beautiful and piping hot, you could taste the salt of the sea in the haddock….. portion sizes were reasonable and not too over facing. Would we go back….. Definitely 100% Plus it’s a lovely drive out in our Cheshire countryside on a beautiful day as today, seeing some of the old houses and farm houses along the way, they were stunning! All in all…. Was intending having Sunday Lunch with my wife, we had been numerous times. The online booking system is supposed to send a confirmation ar decline notice. We waited at home for 45 mins, no notification came through so we decided to take a chance and travel. Upon arrival i was told there was not tables available. I asked why nobody had replied to the booking request and that we had travelled 25mins to get there. I suggested thats not how people expect to be treated. The manager just looked at me and shrugged, no apologies, no reasons, no solution offered.. We left and went to another place where there was tables available and the customer service was better. Around 20 minutes after placing our order we were told that many dishes were unavailable and we would have to choose something else. Almost an hour and ten minutes later our food was served cold, dishes missing and almost inedible. Having ordered a burger specifying no cheese, it was served with visible knife scratches which I suspect was used to remove cheese from the burger (with some remains of melted cheese left on the burger around the edges) after clearly being put on by mistake. Instead of remaking the burger, it was served as is which is disgraceful- If this was not spotted this may have caused an allergic reaction. After cutting the burger in half we also noted the burger was served raw on the inside. Furthermore our prawns and calamari were cold, and mac and cheese was burnt. I was pleasantly surprised when the haddock and chips finally came (as this was originally forgotten) which was the only dish served warm, the fish very fresh and well cooked. Our waiter and staff were very friendly and assisted with sorting the problem. After speaking with the manager we were told that we would not have to pay for the food and that tonight's events were an absolute shambles and will not happen again. I personally won't be visiting The Cookhouse & Pub again in the future as the business has gone down hill since transferring over from The Woodpecker.

Staff were very polite, professional, attentive and smiley, a big thank you to Kirsty and compliments to the chefs in the background….. our dishes were well presented, piping hot and waiting time was literally cooking time….. it is advised to book ahead as the phone was constantly ringing with bookings….. there is a large beer garden in the back and dogs are welcomed both inside and out…..all very quaint and homely cosy. We went straight to Entrée’s, Neil had the special of the day, which was creamy garlic mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus, very tender lamb rump slices with a cranberry jus (Lamb cooked to your liking, Neil had his pink and not shy on the lamb either!!) I had: Homemade buttermilk chicken burger, Monterey jack cheese & bacon, homemade burger sauce, gem lettuce & tomato, served on a toasted brioche bun, with coleslaw, I upgraded my fries from skinny to hand cut chips and we had onion rings to share. To think, this establishment is only 26 minutes drive from Warrington and that we haven’t been previously is a crying shame but we will definitely been going back to this Gem of a pub in the very near future…… not to be missed.

What can I say? Absolutely excellent. The staff couldn't be any more helpful if they tried and are so friendly and welcoming. The food as the 1st time was fantastic. Starters of chicken liver pate and southern fried chicken strips with gravy (which quite frankly, I would like a full pan of. Mains was steak in ale pie, chips and veg and a mixed grill. I asked for my steak to have no pink meat in it and that's the way it came but still soft and pliable. Dessert was sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and for me a brandy coffee. All of it was well worth the money. To top it all they allowed us to stay overnight in our motorhome and they have a beer garden and a large car park. It was a quite night even with the network rail staff on site on the tracks. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend and will go back again and again

We went on a Saturday lunch time and it was pretty empty, which I now can see why. The food was mediocre. The pizza was good and the childrens food. But the pasta was dry and the chicken tasted frozen. The service was slow (seeing as it was quiet). But the staff weren't very helpful and pretty rude. We asked for the mushroom pasta to be spicy, which she said was fine. When we got our bill, we had been charged £1.60 for the chilli to make it spicy! We hadn't booked which is always a risk and we hadn't looked at reviews before arriving. We were greeted with a warm smile and asked to choose a seat and they would bring the menus and drinks we just ordered over. We had a table with a view of the large beer garden. Plenty of outdoor seating including some huts with bench seating. Extensive menu choices, light bites, specials and kids menu. We were advised of the soup of the day when handed our menus and any availability issues (one dish). Easy access with a pram & high chairs available. Staff were really friendly, helpful and special shout out to Molly who our five year old took a shine to because she had a name badge and he was practicing his reading. As somewhere we never planned to go, it's taught us to be more adventurous - thoroughly enjoyed our meal which was all cooked fresh and with love. Also, great pricing! Booking a table was easy via the website, you do need to give your card details but this is understandable given the number of cancellations hospitality had to put up with. Greeted warmly and taken to our table. Drinks order was taken quickly and then food order once we had time to browse the menu. Prices varied from the Sunday roast menu I located online but think it was probably an older version as couldn't find a newer one which I do think is worth adding to their website. We had the soup (carrot and ginger) and the chicken wings and both were tasty. The wings were spicy but a damp cloth or wipe would be useful to clean your hands. I had the mixed roast and my friend the lamb Henry both were tasty. A little more gravy would have been better but I do begrudge paying a £1 for more. The desserts of tiramsu sundes and vanilla cheesecake were very good particularly the sundae as it was a nice twist and the chocolate chip brownie balanced the sweetness of the tiramsu. We both really enjoyed it and service was friendly and professional.

We were served by the young lady in the restaurant. The desert was served by another young lady. They were hardworking, polite and friendly. The artisan bread with olive oil and balsamic was excellent, and the hummus was tasty , though a drizzle of olive oil and a touch of sumac would have lifted it even more. The beetroot and pear carpaccio had good flavours, but the beetroot would have been better sliced more thinly, and it could have used a little more acidity ;some citrus slices would have complemented it beautifully. The chorizo sauce was unfortunately far too salty, making it difficult to enjoy. The scallops, on the other hand, were cooked to perfection and paired well with the sauce. The arancini were absolutely wonderful; crispy outside, soft and flavoursome inside and as a goat’s cheese lover, I particularly enjoyed them. That said, they too would have benefited from a touch of acidity, perhaps with a simple tomato sauce on the side or as a base. The rainbow trout was well cooked, but the cavolo nero garnish was overly greasy and difficult to eat. A lighter side, such as a lemon-zest potato salad, or just blanched greens would have balanced the dish much better. The oil pooling on the plate was a little off-putting, though the sauce itself had potential – a lift with garlic and citrus would really have taken it to the next level. For dessert, we tried the crème brûlée and the pear tarte tatin. The tarte tatin had a nice flavour, but the pear was chopped into very small pieces – serving it with larger slices or half a poached red pear would have looked and tasted more refined. The brûlée unfortunately fell short of expectations; it lacked the richness of egg yolks and tasted more like plain cream than the classic French dessert. Overall, there were some excellent moments and a few dishes that truly stood out, but also several areas where refinement could elevate the experience considerably.

We had our wedding party stay over in the hotel accommodation with breakfast the morning after the wedding and this was a lovely touch. We went on a Wednesday evening around 5:30pm and it wasn't very busy (which we loved) the restaurant itself is decked out very nicely. There was a really nice choice of food on the menu and all the food came very quick and was all very hot. Not to mention it was also absolutely delicious, have always enjoyed Turkish style cuisine and this place really doesn't disappoint, an abundance of meat with lots of flavour in traditional Turkish style. I have been a loyal customer of this place for years. I poured half of my dish out into a bowl and when I went to look at the remainder there was a fly (which had clearly been cooked by the heat and ergo did not fly into the dish after it had been prepared) in my food. However I was very unhappy to witness who was seemingly the owner of the cafe berating his employee for speaking her native language whilst she was in the kitchen. He did so right next to our table and quite loudly. I thought this was incredibly inconsiderate towards his employee, who had given us excellent customer service. No matter your policies, having a go at your staff like that is unnecessary! Especially in front of customers. Everything I got was cooked to perfection, but one piece of criticism, pretty much everything on the menu looks to be homemade fresh, except the fries, these are just basic standard takeaway fries, I think you could add so much the meal if you had a go at making your own!!!!

I ordered mixed meat and chips, the chicken was so hard I dare not wonder how long it had been hanging around. The donner meat was dry at the end, undercooked in the centre and the flavour and texture left a lot to be desired. The chips were small overcooked and greasy. No way that oil gets changed or even filtered more than once in a blue moon. You get what you pay for!
