I tried the southern fried crispy chicken burger either ranch and bbq. The burger was decent, although I would considering it a little big pricey for a burger at around 16 pound. My partner got the smaller beef burger and added on bacon her burger was half the price of mine and was near enough the same size and served with the same amount of chips. So probably better value to go on the smaller menu. The chips were standard fries nothing special with a bit of seasoning on. The staff were friendly enough. Not bad for a quick bite however like I said a little pricey, although not sure on standard pricing around Durham.

Was dark so didn’t see any view out of window. Greeting and service was friendly and professional. Good gluten free options, simple small menu with good range along with a long, diverse wine list. We think the starters were sized and priced as sharers/small plates. Our fave was the truffled celeriac spiral/roulade. This whole dish really worked well. The excellent pressed lamb belly was a close second but a bit puzzled with comparing the menu description to the elements of the dish. This was a common theme throughout although everything on the individual plates definitely worked together harmoniously. Butternut squash wellington was very tasty, particularly with the Dukkah-like crumble/soil. Duck was expertly seasoned but could have done with a smidge more rendering/crisping for utter perfection and the fondant potatoes could have used both more butter and caramelisation for me. Chicken was tender and again the elements worked well together but presentation a bit fussy with the see-saw over an excellent piece of dauphinois. Lovely desserts, fondant disappeared very quickly. All sorbets are house-made. Overall the menu was imaginative and very well-executed with quality ingredients. Despite my picky criticisms. definitely a good value and service was optional.

We found this almost by accident but it was excellent. There are set pizzas or you can create your own with a choice of 52 toppings (yes you can choose them all if you want). Being a coeliac, gluten free food is always harder to find but Pizza Punks were great. Every member of staff was aware and knowledgable about allergies and cross contamination. Mostly positive but also some negative. Upon arriving we were greeted almost instantly and seated promptly as we had a booking reservation. So you can imagine if it's a larger table than two, you're probably in for an increased wait time. The pizzas themselves were absolutely fantastic. Very delicious, not salty at all and full of flavour. I did notice that on the standard pizza menu you get fresh basil on the pepperoni pizza, but basil is not available on the CYO menu. I did ask if I could have basil on top of my CYO pizza but they either forgot it, or didn't do it as it didn't arrive with any basil on top. Not a huge disappointment but it would have been nice to have it on. Mostly positive things but only a few minor things that let it down. But, only slightly. Steaks were good, but my medium rare was closer to medium, and had a lot of fat. The absolute stars here are the staff who made it a very special place and went to great lengths to ensure there were no issues with a dietary request. Beautiful venue, very well meaning staff, but inexperienced. The staff were very thoughtful of the needs of our party including one in a wheelchair and a child, but the memorable experience was the glasses of prosecco we ordered which tumbled off the tray when delivered. From the outstanding and warm service from our young waitress (sorry can't remember her name) she couldn't do enough for us throughout our meal...so much so my daughter drew her a thank you picture - so sweet! We got a range of starters, falafel, Kibbeh Shamiyeh, Batata Harra, Chicken Wings, Cheesy garlic bread The falafel was so light, fresh and very tasty...the fired lamb meatballs were so juicy and full of flavour I absolutely loved these! My daughter had the cheesy garlic bread and we pinched a slice - one of the best garlic breads weve had such a nice crispy base and the cheeseness was unbelievable. The chicken shawarma is different to anywhere else I've ate Lebanese food it's cooked in a sauce and comes out a red colour, different but tasty. All the meat was cooked to perfection and the portion sizes as you can see are generous. I got a biriyani chicken curry and the presentation for starters are top tier and the flavour were bang on. The mixed grills are worth every penny. We even had homemade lemonades made it front of us which I could of drank a gallon. We had a selection of Baklava and knefa and these were to die for. We absolutely loved everything. It's a gem to Durham and a throw away from the cathedral grounds. Already planning to visit next week , thanks so much for a beautiful meal.

I like to give restaurants the benefit of doubt and a chance to put things right, but, this place is shocking. A friend ordered the mixed grill which wasn’t presented well on the plate, and all he asked for was ketchup, twice! I had to go again to the bar to request it again! It turned up two thirds through eating his meal. I ordered the pie, which actually tasted nice, except I think I’d walked back in time to having school dinners! Shocking presentation with what looked like reheated peas, lumpy gravy and cold chips. Asked for hot chips and they arrived just as I was finishing the meal. I wasn’t looking for a part refund or a free dessert etc but it would have been nice to have been offered it. The place was practically empty and will remain that way unless they up their game. The food served reminded of Covid times when restaurants were serving basic food with little love and imagination. Now, it needs to be different or they’ll be gone!

The service is a completely different story. We place an order for a mix grill and smoother platter at 6:10pm and we received our food just after 10 past 7! Obviously me and my partner were talking away then we realized how long we had actually been waiting atound 45 minutes at the time. My partner went to see one of the waitress, she came over and she asked us again what our order was as apparently our order didn't go through, even though we had paid.The server asked us if even paid? We found her attitude and her body language appalling as she was saying well I didn't take your order! I've worked as a waitress and in customer service for many years, and I would never speak to a customer like that. There was another couple next to us who's order also got missed and luckily they checked about their order and got free desert. However, they did order a starter and main and the specifically asked for the starts and order to come out separately and they brought the full order out. They did say it was fine but because they had been waiting ages I think they just wanted their food. The waitress who served us did come and speak to us and apologize and gave us a refund. I think the waiting time and how not one worker checked on us in the time of us ordering and just sitting there for 45mins patiently waiting (there were plenty of the staff walking around and it wasn't busy) was really frustrating and disappointed with our overall experience. Don't think we'll be visiting anytime soon.

Customers should be advised of the wait time before ordering so that they can make a decision on waiting or go elsewhere. 40 minutes after ordering still no food had arrived. asked a lady working there about our order she made some excuse about only having 2 staff in the kitchen, with all due respect this is not my problem and staff should not be making excuses for bad service and the attitude of the person was even worse. i did say i would have accepted the wait had we been told it would be more than 30 minutes. we were then advised food would be served to us in 5 minutes. then out of the 4 meals we ordered only 2 arrived. one of the meals was cold and overcooked, the steak was clearly well done and not medium, as ordered and the onion rings were so overcooked they were stuck together. i then asked again at 50 minutes where were the other 2 meals, they arrived at 55 minutes after being ordered. my steak was well done, not medium as ordered, the meal was overcooked and cold, i wanted to complain but my family asked me not to as to get fresh hot meals would be longer. i then realised a portion of chips i had ordered had not arrived so i had to ask for these, this was now some 70 minutes after having ordered the food. we were staying at the adjoining premier inn and so the next morning went in for 2 coffees and 2 breakfast. i only had coffee and one of the other members of my family had the breakfast, i had not intended to eat as i was not that hungry but one of my family said i should eat something as we would not be eating again until later in the day and gave me a piece of her toast, the waitress saw this and said in a very rude and condescending manner "shall i order you a breakfast" i appreciate i had not ordered breakfast and paid for it but i was only eating a piece of toast someone else was going to eat, the waitress then said in her rude tone "you will have to pay for that", i would not have minded paying the £0.99p for the piece of toast and i did but 2 be spoken to in such a rude manner by staff is not accpetable. i complained to Brewers Fayre and they have just "fobbed me off" with an apology and said they would speak to the staff and use my apology to train their staff. i wrote back to say not acceptable and i should be compensated for serving up unacceptable food and being treated so badly. you are a customer serving industry and your staff should already know better. this is not acceptable overall we spent over £80 in the restaurant and some sort of compensation should have been offered, I am still waiting for what i consider an acceptable apology. I THOROUGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT

Booking on line was straight forward and food was pre ordered from the Christmas set menu and the regular menu. From pizzas, burgers and steaks to camel cottage pie, zebra kebab, and frogs legs, theres something for everyone, from the most conservative to the most adventurous. Menu is interestingly presented in the form of a newspaper, which is novel, but also means its a little more difficult to read as its non linear format makes it easy to miss something. Still, its nothing a little more time perusing it wont fix. They also do some fantastic gin concoctions, with such additions as rose petals and oranges. There is a very small but pleasant outside area too, overlooking a residential street, which catches the afternoon and evening sun. Staff were very pleasant, as was the atmosphere, and food was served within around 10/15 mins. Price VERY much depends on what you order varying from around the £10 mark for a main up to a whopping £75 for a Kobe beef burger. I would definitely eat here again.

We waited quite a while at the door to be offered a table which isn’t the best but it was moderately busy so that’s not an issue. It’s s cozy interior. We arrived at 8 o’clock & they were sending staff home so we weren’t sure we should stay to not be an inconvenience. The manager assured us it was fine. For entrees my son had the sirloin which he enjoyed, my wife had the risotto & I had the slow cooked beef. All of which we thoroughly enjoyed.
