The grounds outside are spectacular even at the end of September when we visited there were a host of beautiful welcoming colourful blooms to invite you to invest your time walking round or sitting in one of the many seats available to sit and look around at the most spectacular sites that Whitby has to offer.

It was very interesting with lots of artifacts and items to look at. The museums art gallery is free to enter but a charge for the museum. Few flaws:- toilets cost (everywhere) with a bunch of kids and having a pregnant wife that was not cheap. The ice creams and soft drinks were extremely high. £6 for an iced latte and £6.50 for two scoop ice cream is quite high. In the heat of the summer they definitely know what they are doing to make extra cash. Okay so we enjoyed a boat trip down the river and back for 20 mins and cost £25 for 5 people. Food costs weren’t as bad as some places and there are plenty of options. Watch out for those seagulls as one bomb dived our teenage son to steal a Greggs paper bag with pizza in it. Scared the life out of him but all he made off with was a screech and bit of paper! (He wasn’t letting go!) haha We visit every few years and treat the kids. There are some little kiddies rides at the end of the harbour and some arcades. These were only about £1 per arcade game and £10 for 5 play tokens. It’s busy in August but manageable. We preordered the Botham's afternoon tea via telephone days prior. The afternoon tea that was discussed to us was mistakenly The Yorkshire afternoon tea. This caused slight confusion. On each ocassion we received a warm and friendly greeting. We were shown to a clean table promptly. The 4 of us ordered The Special which consisted of Cod, Chips, Peas, Bread and Butter plus a pot of tea. It was evident that all were cooked fresh, served hot, in a timely manner, cooked to perfection and tasted delicious. The price was excellent £20.85 each for a regular portion. The service was attentive and super friendly. The portions wern’t as large as we’re used to in West Yorkshire (we’re big fans of Murgatroyds whale like fish in Yeadon) and no option for skin off on haddock so we all opted for cod which was fresh & succulent. They use vegetable oil when frying which isn’t as flavoursome as beef dripping IMO and the curry sauce & mushy pea’s were a little bland. But the fish,chips,peas & bread/cup of tea deal for under £25 is a bargain and a steal compared to other Whitby chippies.

In the meantime - I had seen the Google reviews regarding the awful refund experiences from other customers….. On Tuesday afternoon - I rung WHamonds Customer service line to be told I would be contacted in due course to see if I wanted a credit note or exchange - just like all the other negative reviews! I told her implicitly that I required a refund as they already have the item back. She said I would get an email when head office ‘receives it back’ - I again stated that Hamonds already ‘had the bracelet in their possession and I had the receipt from the Whitby store to prove it. (Ridiculous situation considering I had physically retuned the bracelet to the store!) We went on the 2 hour wildlife trip (in the week in August) but unfortunately didn't see much apart from gannets. Perfect for drinking whilst listening to the history of the distillery which was very knowledgably told. We were then talked through the distilling and bottling process as well as being able to sample any of the gins and rums. There is room for up to 12 people on the tour but we were actually the only ones booked for our time that day and very pleased that they still went ahead with it. There’s a small shop on site too where you’re spoilt for choice of which gin and/or rum to take home as well as some clever recycled gifts. We went for a mixture of miniatures which were perfect for when we got back to the camper. All very well thought out in a very welcoming environment. Highly recommended and I can’t wait to see the distillery when it moves to their new position next to the Abbey. The plans look fabulous!

A bit of tree twig cutting wouldn’t go amiss, but that’s a job for the forestry commission. We’d go again, but would hope different staff would be serving. It has disabled access at the back very friendly staff lots of clean toilets and disabled facilities the museum contents oh my goodness you couldn’t ask get lost in the history that this museum offers. You really do need more than half a day to look round the many sections that are packed with historical events local history events and all of the many items to review ………… it’s very warm and welcoming one price gets everyone in and your admission allows a whopping 12 months come back as many times as you want or can. The grounds outside are spectacular even at the end of September when we visited there were a host of beautiful welcoming colourful blooms to invite you to invest your time walking round or sitting in one of the many seats available to sit and look around at the most spectacular sites that Whitby has to offer.
