On arrival the check-in was processed as normal and we got our keys to the room. On first look at the room was very nice however there was no air-conditioning. A lesson in how to provide a buffet breakfast. 1 star removed for the lack of air conditioning which would not have been a problem if we could have opened the window. (I have stayed 53 hotel nights in 5 different countries so far in 2025 and managed not to fall out the windows when opening them. ) In conclusion, the best breakfast but for me I won’t be returning as I need ventilation or at least air conditioning in my room.

We visited on Saturday and went for a sit in meal, we could absolutely understand the hype! We were served by Jemma and Neha who did an excellent job at helping us pick which dishes to choose and make us feel welcome right away. There is no dedicated Vegan menu but Jemma informed us that any of the mains can be made plant-based aside from the cream based options such as Pasanda/Korma. This means there is a huge choice for Vegans here and everything we ordered was delicious! We started with the Vegetable Pakora which was perfectly cooked with a crispy and beautifully spiced batter. On Jemma's advice I ordered the Vegetable Biryani. I was able to swap the curry sauce for one of the mains sauces, I chose the Jalfrezi. This was one of the best Biryanis I have ever had, extremely flavourful and packed full of different veg giving it a great texture. The Jalfrezi was hot, with a rich tomato based flavour. Also we tried the Chana Masala which once again beats the others I have recently tasted. It had a slightly tangy and sweet flavour which really made it stand out. Along side this we had the Stuffed Paratha which was lovely, just what you need to mop up your sauce 😁 Overall this was a fantastic meal: the service was brilliant; food, super tasty and the price was extremely reasonable. If you are in Dundalk and want Indian food you need to try it! Can't wait to get back 😊

Had pasta dish. White wine and mushroom sauce! So hard to find the mushroom and they must have only used a drop of wine. I've had this dish in many places and this was the weakest. The food was disgusting cold, bland, and clearly not fresh. The service was beyond terrible. The rooms, like hotel itself, are large and had beautifully appointed bathrooms as well, featuring gorgeous smelling hand soap and shower gels etc which are handmade in Ireland. The stand alone shower was particularly good and there was ample room for your own toiletries which a lot of hotels seen to forget about. Our room was so spacious it could accommodate a single bed as well as two comfortable chairs and small table to admire the view of the tennis court it overlooked. Our party of 6 had an excellent breakfast in the dining room though the poached eggs were on the over done side to be totally honest. Still, overall we couldn't companion at the quality and quantity being provided choice wise & I expect the chefs were overworked in the kitchen it was so busy! We could understand why this venue is so popular. Sadly, I didn't have time during my stay to visit the pool or use any other of the sporting activities. Other than weddings etc., the Ballymascanlon is a golfing venue so it seemed that many clientele in the bar & restaurant etc are there for the primarily for these golfing facilities. The popularity of the venue for both golf and weddings did make parking difficult and we were only just lucky enough to secure a space in the large car park which is why this venue lost a star from me... Though I'm sure I'm being picky! It was just so busy overall. We would certainly pay another visit to the Ballymascanlon should we travel that way in the future.

It wasn't even busy and another couple ahead of me waited longer than me for just 2 coffees. 20 minutes for coffees! The manager came and refunded me but claimed she was absent during lunch hour and didn't know what was happening and will review the cameras. She still gave me the 6 nuggets which were cold anyway and my appetite was spoiled by that point. It is clear this mcdonald's has absolutely no leadership and whoever owns it doesnt care one bit.
