Not only did they have plenty to eat and a wealthy variety to choose from but we all loved what we ordered! There's so much flavor in everything. I got an extra side of green sauce for my roasted pork bowl and it added so many new dimensions to the dish. The meat is perfectly tender and beautifully marinated. The rice was nice and fluffy, and the runny egg was the perfect addition! Also, as a sidenote for visitors--tips are accepted but not required as they pay their employees a fair wage and include benefits. See the last picture for more info.

Two pieces had some flavor the other two were tasteless, hard to believe they were marinated for 24 hours. Some observations: 1. Two pieces of chicken in most restaurants usually means either a breast with a wing or thigh and leg. My two pieces were 1/4 of a breast with a leg and my wife got 1/3 a breast and a very small thigh. The white meat was overcooked to desert dry while the dark meat was just overcooked. 2. The coleslaw comes in a small cup, maybe 3 forkfuls. The creamy spinach side, was a decent size bowl of spinach in what tasted like cream soup from a can that had been water down. Runny and wet, not creamy and smooth. 3. Service was bad. The waiter took our order and brought our food and then the check. No checking in on how things were going. I flagged down another waiter for water refills. Our waiter looked like he was playing on his phone. When I asked about portion sizes when he brought the bill, he just shook his head and said nothing. This restaurant could easily be counter service, not surewhat class of restaurant they are trying to be, full service, fast casual or inventing something new. 4. When back at our hotel, I read information about this local chain and found out tips are included in the price of the food and they pay fair wages to their employees plus benefits. The tips are not expected and built into the price and this is mentioned in small print on the lower right corner of the menu. I applaud this company for the way they treat their employees and I would have this is large print somewhere more prominent on the menu and maybe put some asterisks on the prices to let customers know. Initially, when I left, and thought about what paid with tip, I felt like this was way too expensive for what you get. Understanding the price philosophy (and not tipping) would have made it better in relationship to value, but still on the high side. I was visiting from out of town and while St Paul is a great town, we will probably never be back, but I wanted potential customers to know our experience.

The drinks for most of us were also excellent. However we all felt that the food and presentation was a three star. So take that into account if you are reading this. We got the gem lettuce salad, American Burger, and French toast and all 3 were very good. The salad has lots of fresh herbs, and the dressing was very flavorful. Tons of soft serve choices which is my favorite and somewhat hard to find a dedicated place for it. I've had a couple varieties but honestly I'm a sucker for pistachio soft serve and this is one of the few places around that has it! The staff is friendly and works through the line quick enough. The first thing they mention on the phone is that their high chairs aren’t the cleanest…okay…weird. We arrive early not expecting to be sat right away, which we did and that was great. We tried their chicken wings in a flavorful Korean sauce that had the perfect amount of kick, an arugula golden beat salad that was light and refreshing, the perfectly spiced vegetarian Thai curry dish that was well balanced by the not too sweet coconut milk, and their crunchy fish tacos on colorful corn tortillas. I'm not sure what was in the soda but I got a Pepsi Zero Sugar and it tasted like Pepsi Booty Juice. You are in the hospitality business. Corporate needs to come down and give this team some training. I have given this location multiple attempts to redeem themselves. They don’t always have what other Popeyes do at this location; for months they had no strawberry biscuits when other stores did, and they were frequently not selling or out of shrimp. What they do have always is the chicken, prepared better than at other Popeyes around, so they have better cooks here, who need to take a bow! I go there a lot, and would give 5 stars if it wasn’t for the scant gravy and shady neighborhood, which I guess they can’t really help. However, the building needs a good power wash, clean inside and out, and paint, which would brighten up the place. If I can see from the drive through that the inside could use a good scrubbing, it does.
