It’s a well developed and well maintained trail, but a little rocky and rough in places. It takes about 40 minutes to an hour to walk back to the falls. In the dry months (Winter months) there is very little water coming over the falls. Also, in the Summer months the heat can be stifling as the dark rock formations in the canyon absorb the heat. I would not recommend this hike on a really hot day, especially if you are not in great shape. Absolutely no dogs are allowed on the trail, and they require that you have at least 32 ounces of water with you. If you can join one of the free Ranger guided tours, I would recommend that. The tribal guides are a wealth of information. The views of the valley and the rugged scenery are beautiful, too! We were lucky and saw a few bighorn sheep on our hike, but I understand that they are a pretty rare sight. Definitely add this trail to your list.

The museum trail was a very short hike. I was going at a casual pace and got to the end of this trail within less than 30 minutes. There are very little obstacles so it's not very challenging. It's a really beautiful scenic hike especially around this time of year. There's a ton of street parking and garage parking that's across the street from the museums parking. You start the trail in the back of the museums parking and it leads up to the end of the trail which is a bunch of picnic tables. The thing I like about this trail is if you are up for the challenge you can keep going and it will lead to multiple trails that will eventually go all the way to the tram and the ranger park station. But if you are not very experienced stop once you see the skyline ridge sign and turn around. After that point it's very slippery, narrow and more dangerous. If you do decide to go past skyline ridge then your last chance to really turn around is at rescue point one, unless you plan on doing the entire 12 hours hike which is even more dangerous. But again in regards to the museum trail, short easy and fun. My only complaint is that it's not a very well constructed trail and most of the signage is just a little white dot painted on a rock every now and then. With all of the tax revenue palm springs receives, it would really be nice if they put a little more effort into the trails. Other than that enjoy the easy trail, and if you are a pro then maybe try the challenge of doing the full route known as the cactus to clouds trail!

Be careful, it’s all rocks, there’s no trail to hike on, you have to climb over a couple Rocks, at the top there’s a great view of Palm Springs and Perris, also, there’s actually a taller mountain called San Gorgonio mountain, across the valley. The view at the top is amazing! Then we went back to our campsite and messed around. The next day we cleaned up and hiked back to the tram, you know the rest. The view here is amazing. There a lot of parking zone and you can take a cable car to the peak. Buy the tickets and wait about 30 to 1 hour. Around the corner, a larger pool area offers both shade and sun with plush loungers, all nestled in beautifully maintained desert gardens with a waterfall. Several whirlpools and Jacuzzis are tucked around the grounds, creating spaces for both solitude and connection. Every pool felt pristine and thoughtfully placed. You’re never far from a relaxing water moment, and there’s always cold water nearby to stay hydrated. One of the most memorable parts of my visit was my facial with Josie. Used this route to go to Tahquitz Peak. It is a quiet, peaceful trail. It's also easy to follow. Went on a Saturday in late September. I encountered 12 people during the 6 hours I spent on the trail. It was slightly warm, but a pretty regular breeze kept it fairly nice. Some things you'll want to be aware of before going. From the beginning of the trailhead to the peak is supposed to be 3.3 miles. However, the old forest road leading to the trailhead is closed. That adds another mile onto the hike. You're supposed to have a permit to enter San Jacinto, but the sign informing you that's the case is 1.3 miles and 1,000' elevation gain, into the hike since the road is closed. I would also recommend hiking boots instead of running shoes. The extra traction would be a big help during the last .7 miles on the switchbacks.
