Taking a step back to history i belive it was built in ealry 1900s. Going down 125 steps to find yourself inside a cave that opens at the bottom overlooking beautiful La jolla. It's quick to do. My 7 yrs old and my older friends have gone down. Take your time if you are older or a senior. Free Parking on the street can be an issue on weekends, but there's a paid structure across for $20..after the cave the top store has cute souvenirs and a massive shells collection for affordable prices. They also sell cold beverages and ice cream. This place is walking distance from Ocean Trails walk. Its great tonseat and admire the ocean views off thw twail. After, We love to hit Brockton Villa for lunch after the cave. Iys walking distance and you will be overlooking the seals 🦭 and children's pool. Price is good for the cave, the offer kid, senior and military discount.

I'm glad I was able to take advantage on a trip up to Oceanside for a cycling event. Although Brutalism isn't an architectural style that's everyone's cup of tea, I think most people will find Salk's particular form of execution appealing. While it has the hard edges and unembellished materials of typical modernist structures, some softness and elegance is added by the interposed teak panels on the concrete facades, the striking water feature in the middle of the courtyard, and of course, the magnificent view of the ocean framed by the two main laboratory buildings. The architecture is particularly impressive considering how functional it is despite the striking looks. Trying to find free street parking was a bit of a chore on the Friday afternoon I arrived but a little patience did net me a spot just beside the Institute on Torrey Pines Scenic Drive. In summary, the Salk Institute is well worth a visit for any fan of architecture in general but especially modern architecture in particular. We had such an amazing time with La Jolla Kayak Tours! Our tour guide Ane, was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating throughout the whole tour. Luckily because of the time of year, it was just my girlfriend and I in the tour. We learned many cool facts about the area and she pointed out so many things we would have totally missed on our own. Snorkeling was the highlight for us, we saw Garibaldi Fish, Leopard Sharks, and even Sea Lions up close! Kayaking along the caves and cliffs was also a lot of fun. Ane made sure everything was safely done throughout the whole tour. The tour felt really well organized, the gear they provided was in great shape and well maintained/cleaned (wet suit, snorkelling equipment and kayak). They were even kind enough to let us to continue using the snorkelling equipment and wet suits until end of day! If you’re in La Jolla, this is 100% worth it and the OG spot to do the tours! We will definitely be back to do the tour again with them. If I could give them a 6/5 stars, I would. Thanks again La Jolla Kayak and Ane for the incredible time we had 🙂

We meet at the La Jolla Kayak building and got our helmet, life jacket and flippers. I decided not to wear a wet suit but they are offered. Rented a jet ski for 2 hours and the staff were amazing - made us feel safe, answered lots of questions. I wanted to switch my kids halfway through and they were so accommodating and made it easy.
