Santiago

Santiago, Chile’s capital and largest city, sits in a valley surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. Plaza de Armas, the grand heart of the city’s old colonial core, is home to 2 neoclassical landmarks: the 1808 Palacio de la Real Audiencia, housing the National History Museum, and the 18th-century Metropolitan Cathedral. La Chascona is the home-turned-museum of poet Pablo Neruda.

Santa Lucía Hill, a small urban hill in the heart of Santiago, Chile, holds great historical and cultural significance as it was the site where Pedro de Valdivia founded the city in the mid-sixteenth century. The picturesque park on the hill features terraces, fountains, and a summit viewpoint offering magnificent panoramic views of Santiago. With charming hidden corners like the Neptune Fountain and Hidalgo Castle, this area is a must-visit for its beauty and historical importance.
Cool place with a nice view. Probably a must go if you’re visiting Santiago. Be aware that it’s a LOT of stairs to climb.

Beautiful hill in the heart of Santiago with gardens, fountains, and historic architecture. The climb is not too difficult and rewards you with amazing panoramic views of the city and the Andes. A perfect spot for a short walk, photography, or just relaxing in nature while still being in the city center.

Such a beautiful view over the city. Short walk up. Many places to sit and rest on the way up. Free entrance.

Best place to start your sightseeing trip in Santiago! Beautiful views from the top of the mountains. There are a lot of stairs and walking uphill, so wear comfortable shoes. It was free to get in. Just show your passport number. The hill is very well maintained with flowers and plants, even in the winter. Great place to spend some time exploring the whole family. Very safe for tourists and spectacular views!

San Cristóbal Hill, also known as Cerro San Cristobal, is a must-visit landmark in Santiago. It offers stunning city views and various attractions. Visitors can hike up the hill or take the popular funicular train to reach the top. At the summit, they can admire the statue of the Virgin Mary and enjoy panoramic views of the city while savoring local refreshments.
Visited Chile last year. A beautiful and peaceful place with amazing views of Santiago. I could even see in the distance, the snow on a part of the Andes mountain range. It was great.
Sumiitra S — Google review
The 22-meter statue on San Cristóbal Hill, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, was designed by Italian sculptors Luigi Poletti and Giuseppe Obici, and was constructed by the French foundry Val D'Osne. Although it's cloudy day, tourists still crowded. The cable car took us to a platform where there are lots of souvenir stores , food stalls, then taking about 100 steps to the top. I wish I had enough time to climb up all the way to the top myself. The overview was excellent even in a cloudy day.
Zemin B — Google review
Takes around 40 minutes to walk up the hill, no entrance fee. Very beautiful view of Santiago, especially during sunset. It is possible to take the cable car too, if you don't want to walk up or down.
Tina — Google review
One of the highlights of the city. It's a nice walk up, but if you do, start early in the morning. It gets very warm, without much shade. Overall, very nice views of the city! Would come here more than once when I lived in Santiago.

Recoleta is a lively and diverse district of Santiago, known for its mix of culture, history, and everyday local life. It’s famous for the Patronato neighborhood, where you’ll find bustling markets, street food, and affordable shopping, reflecting the area’s strong immigrant influence. Recoleta is also home to the Cementerio General, one of the largest cemeteries in Latin America, full of history and impressive mausoleums. Close to central Santiago, it’s an interesting place to explore if you want to see a more authentic side of the city beyond the tourist areas. It has magnificent views to the city.

Specialty Museums
La Chascona is a must-visit in Santiago for literature enthusiasts. It was the former residence of the renowned poet Pablo Neruda and his third wife, Matilde Urrutia. The house, designed to resemble a ship, now serves as a museum showcasing Neruda's personal belongings and an impressive collection of art, including a portrait of his wife by Diego Rivera. The quirky architecture and vibrant colors reflect Neruda's unique style.
Amazing experience: the way they synchronized the audio with the spaces of the house was really intelligent. I recommend for tourists who want to know a little bit more about Pablo Neruda and his importance in Chile.
Isadora A — Google review
La Chascona was Pablo Neruda’s house in Santiago. Is located in Bellavista, few steps from the funicular. The entrance fee is CLP 9,500 (about $10 USD), credit cards accepted. The audio guide is essential to fully appreciate the house, at the end of the tour you need to return it. The firsr thing to do is view the short documentary in the video room. Inside the house, you’ll find an eclectic mix of art, maritime decor, and personal items. For people with mobility issues, Keep in mind, the house has stairs. La Chascona offers an interesting look into Neruda’s life and personality. The audio guide and documentary help you understand the experience better, so take your time and appreciate this part of Chilean history.
Valek — Google review
La Chascona offers a wonderful immersive experience into Pablo Neruda’s life. It’s well-organized, well-maintained, and easy to follow. The full visit takes about 1–2 hours, no more. Please note that photos are not allowed inside the house.
André M — Google review
Great museum to visit while in Santiago, very near to the funicular so it's a good activity to pair with that. I don't usually use the museum audio guides anywhere I go but this was really informative and helpful so I recommend it.
L.A. D — Google review
It was very nice to be able to visit one of the homes of such a reknowned poet. Entrance was less than $10 per person and an interesting experience. Cost includes a very useful audioguide. The house was quaint and peculiar. There was a small room with a 10 or so minute video that described some of Neruda's back story. The house was broken up into three different structures connected through outdoor stairs, gardens, and other various foliage. It was interesting to see actual poems and writings of Neruda's with edits, etc. The houses were apportioned very nicely with artwork, etc. It also included a beautiful painting by Diego Rivera. The store at the end also had some beautiful artwork. Overall, it was a nice way to spend 30 to 60 minutes.
Jo R — Google review
A very nice house museum. If you are into peeking into amazing peoples houses or Neruda in general this is a must. An audio tour device is available and is included in the price. The house is densely packed with parts of Neruda’s past and life. Like most places it is closed on Mondays.
Andy S — Google review
Beautiful house, and the audio guide really helps. You can't take photos inside, only in the gardens, and you can buy Pablo nerudas works if you want after the tour. Very chill, no guide, you go through at your own pace.

Sky Costanera is a must-visit glass-walled observation deck located 300 meters high in the Gran Torre Santiago, the tallest building in Latin America. From this iconic spot, visitors can enjoy breathtaking 360º panoramas of Santiago and its surroundings, including views of the Andes mountains. The observation deck offers an unparalleled vantage point to admire the city's modern buildings, urban parks, and landmarks like Cerro San Cristobal and Cerro Santa Lucia.
If you like altitude, I highly recommend! I was surprised at the low price and high-quality meal I received in the restaurant area of the top floor. Very enjoyable to sit there at a window table with this view and a delicious dinner. I will definitely repeat this experience next time I am in Santiago.
Kurt D — Google review
Fantastic! Built in 2015, and currently the tallest building in South America, I would say it’s well-worth it for the views! It’s 20,000 CLP for adults, and it’s one of the highlights of Santiago. A great place to admire the view, and capture some great photos! There’s also a nice bar/restaurant that can be good (otherwise, there are more food options in the main mall). There are bathrooms and a gift store, too. Can definitely recommend! By yourself, a date, or with your family and friends!!

A must-visit in Santiago! Check the weather forecast so you can really enjoy it and see the Andes. The staff is super friendly and helpful. On both floors of the viewpoint, there are decorated spots perfect for taking photos to post. Amazing 360º view of the city!
Amauri — Google review
Gorgeous city views. One of a kind. They have a second floor where you feel the air from outside cause it's open roof but the windows are all like 40 feet tall, so you technically do feel like you're still indoors.

Sky Costanera is a must-visit landmark in Santiago. This impressive skyscraper features an observation deck at the very top, offering breathtaking 360° views of the city and the majestic Andes mountains. The experience is unforgettable, especially on clear days when the Cordillera de Los Andes looks spectacular in the background. It’s one of the best ways to truly appreciate the scale and beauty of Santiago.
Joan T — Google review
Wow! An absolute must try! $20 USD to get to the top of the tower. It has two levels for viewing. One of them is open roof. There is also a restaurant that has amazing food and equally amazing prices. Try to get up there before sunset. As the sun sets and night moves in, the views continue to change and they just keep getting better. 10/10!

What a view and this part of town is a contrast to the older quarter of Santiago. The place is well run, no issues getting in and out. Everything was explained to us by an English speaking guide. Well organized. Loved the view from the top.

Chilean restaurant
Boragó, led by Chef Rodolfo Guzman, offers an innovative dining experience that celebrates Chile's natural bounty. The restaurant is renowned for introducing numerous Chilean ingredients and techniques to the global culinary scene, redefining the country's gastronomic landscape. Dishes like grilled duck hearts, venison tartare with maqui berries, and rockfish showcase the restaurant's minimalist yet visually stunning plating.
I think this may be my favorite culinary experience of my life (thus far!). Every single dimension of each plate was so thoughtfully and creatively considered. However, what was unique compared to other overly formal fine dine experiences was that this was a joyous celebration of life! To have an entire tomato plant brought to you to start! To inhale the deep scent that reminds me of my mother’s garden in the summer. I love that each plate was interactive and fun. I felt the level of ‘play’ and curiosity like when I was a child. It wasn’t just a meal; it was a celebration of life and a beautiful tribute to Chile. I left feeling moved, delighted, and already dreaming of a return.
Tiffany N — Google review
Wow, what a great dinner! Every dish was so creative and interesting and had a story and connection to a different part of Chile. Loved almost every one. 1 or 2 out of the 12 didn’t give me that wow feeling, but that’s ok, cause the ones that did were truly special in all the right ways…and when you’re doing things this creative, there are bound to be a few that are good but not yet great. Service was excellent, wine was lovely, ambiance was simple but pleasant. Would definitely come back for another go next time I’m in Santiago.
Taj M — Google review
The different dishes they had for the spring collection were spectacular with great presentation and arrangements. Everyone at the restaurant was very friendly and accommodating. The different flavors along with the wine pairings made it a memorable dining experience - the sea bass, mussels and the lamb were my top three favorite dishes. The card they give you at the end describing each of the dishes and the picture with the amazing chefs were definitely the cherry on top. Worth the price and experience 👌
Christian C — Google review
Outrageously creative. Provocative flavors. Having dinner at Boragó is like experiencing a Rachmaninoff symphony. Everything is choreographed expertly from the service to the cadence of the courses. No loud conversations or distractions. We skipped the wine pairing in favor of a juice pairing which was superb. Must visit if you’re in Santiago!

We had seen reviews of Boragó on TripAdvisor and "best places to eat" in Santiago. We were not disappointed. Each course was varied, interesting and surprising, as well as very tasty. Each course was served by a team member who explained it to us. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and it was the dining highlight of our visit to Chile. A great experience. Thanks to all the team who made it possible.
123farringdon — Google review
I had unrealistic expectations going into my Boragó experience. Those expectations were exceeded. The food is obviously delicious and is presented like fine art. Yet, Boragó shines brightest with its soft product. The staff. Every single employee was awesome. As soon as my friend and I walked in the door, to when we left, we felt special, we felt like VIPs. This restaurant is the perfect place to conclude a vacation to Chile. I left with the feeling you're always chasing when you travel.
Stephen O — Google review
Unusual dining experience - enjoyed the variety of dishes and the creativity. Tried many new foods from across Chile. The service was too fast and after 6 dishes, we had to ask them to slow down as there were no breaks between courses and we were starting to feel full and lose appreciation for the experience. To be fair they were very obliging on this point, but we wished we’d asked sooner as we felt rushed and had no time to enjoy the experience and the company. The dishes were very well explained by individual chefs at our table and we enjoyed the adventure and opportunity to experience new foods served in very unusual ways. We’ve marked the atmosphere down a little - the restaurant dining area is quite ‘industrial’ and a little more gentle lighting, even a candle, would have brought warmth and intimacy to the table. We enjoyed being able to see the kitchen - and witnessed enormous professionalism and care over food preparation and service. The pinor noir served was the very best we have tasted anywhere.

Wine bar
Bocanariz, located in the charming Lastarria neighborhood of Santiago, opened its doors in 2012 and quickly became a game-changer in the city's dining scene. This wine bar stands out for its extensive selection of Chilean wines, including rare labels and lesser-known varieties from different regions. It's an ideal spot for travelers looking to explore Chilean wines without visiting wineries.
This place has a well deserved reputation (which we only discovered subsequently - I stumbled across it). It wears its excellence and expertise lightly - not at all snobby or intimidating. Beautifully laid out, the service was excellent and the quality of the wines first class. We didn’t eat, only some cheese to accompany the flight of wines, but will definitely return.
Lee W — Google review
One of the best meals that I had in Santiago! The staff were extremely knowledgeable about the wines, despite my lack of Spanish. A special shout out to the manager, Marcelo who was both accommodating and helpful (nothing was too much trouble!) Lovely ambiance with a mixture of both local and international diners. I even sat next to a British couple who have emigrated to Australia. I later found out they were Tottenham supporters (I'm a Gooner) ...what were the chances!
KH H — Google review
Extremely good food, excellent wine menu but service level is standard. We were here to taste wine and food, ordered starters only, and they serviced everything together resulting our experience ending in 1 hour. Maybe they want to sell the table again, but it really ruined our total experience.
Emre A — Google review
We had a wonderful dining experience. The food was delicious and expertly prepared. Our server was knowledgeable about the wine selection which made our meals even more enjoyable. The ambiance was lovely, perfect for our first day visiting Santiago, Chile.

This was the first place we visited during our trip in Chile 2 weeks ago. By far the best restaurant we had the chance to dine at. Couldn't ask for more in terms of the food, service quality and wines. We were served by Marcelo and Rocio, they were an absolute delight, recommended us some really good wines to pair our with food. They really went over and beyond, sharing with us more about Chile and as well as showing us their wine cellar. The beef tartare is a must have! Will definitely be back for more when in Chile. Couldn't find another restaurant with the same standard of food and wines. Thank you so much!!
Jaime B — Google review
Definitely worth a visit. The wine selection is excellent, and I highly recommend choosing the tasting flight — it offers a truly wonderful experience. The food is surprisingly good as well. Highly recommended!
LIANG G — Google review
Incredible experience! We visited Bocanariz for lunch today and enjoyed every moment. The Chilean wine selection is extensive and tasty, and the waiters took the time to teach us about where each one was from. The manager even took us into the cellar after our meal! We had the charcuterie, empanadas, and the beef tartare - all were incredibly delicious. This place is not to be missed!

Fusion restaurant
Peumayén Ancestral Food is a unique restaurant that delves into the culinary heritage of Chile's Aymara and Mapuche indigenous populations. The menu features a creative array of dishes, including alpaca steak, horse meat, crispy seaweed, and araucaria araucana nuts. This pioneering fusion restaurant combines indigenous ingredients to create stunning dishes using traditional methods and recipes from pre-Hispanic Chilean cultures.
This place rescued my perception about Chilean food. As a tourist I saw many places offering fried/fatty foods, while I was really hoping for something a little more "roots". I ordered the meat and seafood sample combination, which offers 4-5 courses with around 20 bite-size samples. This allowed us to taste their native/south-american ingredients with a chef inspired cuisine.

The food was all on point, well seasoned and perfectly harmonious. Although some people comment that the portions are small, if you eat the 3 courses plus an appetizer it is more than enough. It is a restaurant to go to enjoy excellent food and service. They have a very good choice of wines to pair with and also at the right temperature, they also have a quiet terrace to spend the hot afternoon under the shade. Congratulations. Nestled in the beautiful Parque Forestal, right across from the Museum of Fine Arts, Castillo Forestal is a charming café with a fairytale-like atmosphere. The cozy establishment boasts brick walls and towers, offering a magical setting for visitors. Its upstairs patio provides an ideal spot to bask in the morning sun while enjoying enchanting park views. Influenced by French cuisine with noticeable Chilean touches, the menu features dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.
Lovely French inspired restaurant that is perfect for lunch or dinner. The location is easy to walk to from the surrounding areas, but be cautious later in the evening as the place borders a park. The building and decor inside are very beautiful, and it gives an elevated feel to the dining experience. I highly recommend the sangria and charcuterie board. The service was fast and friendly.

Castillo Forestal is a great restaurant located in Parque Forestal Ruben Dario, surrounded by nature and decorated with nice wooden details. They have indoor and outdoor seating, plus a terrace on the second floor that can be used for private events. I went for brunch and was very crowded. I ordered the Brunch Versailles, which was just what I needed. The food was nicely presented, served quickly, tasted great, and was reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. However, after finishing my meal, I felt a little abandoned by my waitress while waiting for the check, which took quite a while to arrive. Overall, it’s a great place to enjoy good food in a peaceful setting. Just be prepared to wait a bit when it’s time to leave.

We went to this place for brunch and had a lovely time! It's a bit on the pricier side, but it's worth it. We ordered eggs and they were delicious. The atmosphere is great too. It's a nice spot to relax and enjoy a meal. Definitely recommend it.

Nice ambience, could be better. Location and setting are excellent, helpful staff. No English spoken, not totally surprising but we have found in most places in a major capital city it usually is so not certain how you'd get on if not a Spanish speaker. Menu via a QR code, no English version, no hard copy so bit of a faff to order. Chose what we fancied & screen shotted to gallery to show the waitress. Went for a medium rare entrecote but it was small & well done to be honest, had better burgers. My wife asked for a creme brulee desert but the waiter came back & said they didn't have any. Had to ask 3 times for our 'agua sin gas'. Musicians came in around 8pm as it was getting dark and did add to the nice relaxed vibe. So to sum up, very average food, no English spoken, lovely location and vibe in my opinion.

This place reminds me of Tavern on the Green in New York City's Central Park. Such wonderful ambiance. It's located directly across the street from the Palace of Fine Art museum. We had the beef bourginon and chef's cut steak (looks like a ribeye) along with the potatoes dauphin and tomatoes gratin. The steak was slightly overcooked for the ordered temperature, but not overcooked altogether. Everything else was heaven. Very reasonably priced for what you get. Our server was very friendly, helpful, and patient with our language barrier. I would return here when I'm back in Chile.

Such a beautiful venue. I ate here for a private event and they had us up in a private balcony that was spacious and had plenty of natural light. I got the ratatouille croissant, pesto gnocchi with roasted tomatoes, and a trio dessert sampler consisting of crème brûlée, chocolate manjar, and a mini fruit tart. Very flavorful dishes and perfect portions. The staff was also very attentive and friendly.
