Galindo is a popular restaurant in Santiago, recommended by Lonely Planet and local tourism websites. It's known for serving traditional South American food, including Chilean dishes like pastel de choclo, a baked corn cake stuffed with chicken and beef. The restaurant offers a calmer alternative to crowded market eating and provides generous portions of authentic Chilean meals. While not particularly geared towards tourists, the food is described as basic but tasty.
Excellent meal, good local cuisine. We had eel stew and corn stew. Both were delicious. We sat on the patio and had buskers coming around asking for money after playing. The pisco sour was good. Be careful in this neighborhood as a tourist—multiple locals told me not to be here after dark and to take care which street I walked down. We were having a late lunch and felt perfectly safe.
Casey J — Google review
The recommended dish was the corn pie but I wasn't impressed. It's hard to describe this dish as a meal as it is a sweet dish. It was very tough to finish. I would recommend this more as a side dish for 4 to share in addition to savoury dishes. So much mixed feelings writing this. It isn't a bad dish but just unsuitable as a meal I find. There are chunks of chicken, meat, egg and olives. I definitely couldn't finish and wouldn't recommend as a meal. Other than that, service was fine.
Kelvin H — Google review
Let me tell you…. I was recommended this fantastic restaurant by another tourist. Here you will be to eat traditional Chilean and Peruvian cuisines, with a variety of different gluten free dishes, the cocktails are delicious and so many different types. One can sit indoors or outdoors, I invited some of my relatives and we all enjoyed the food!!! I would most definitely recommend this restaurant!!!!!
Lidia R — Google review
Great Chilean food. We were lucky to have a table right away. Corn Pie and mixed Seafood Soup are must try dishes.
Terence K — Google review
The service was excellent and the food was solid. I ate here with a friend and he wanted to mention that the Cazuela de Vacuno was the second best soup he had ever had (first being a classic chicken soup).
William Z — Google review
I really wanted to try choclo con queso while I was in Santiago and this restaurant came highly recommended - for good reason. The food my mom and I ordered (pollo al jugo and chocolo con queso) were executed to perfection. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the chocolo con queso was rich, had a crispy top, and was filled with meat and chicken and egg. I would have liked it if the inside was more evenly distributed but enjoyed it all the same! We got the chicken to go because the servings were so generous. We sat outside and unfortunately there were quite a few people smoking and very loud live music (the guy came around after he was done asking explicitly for tips and making people feel bad when they did not give him any money which in my mind is not polite at all as we did not ask him to play his loud music right by our table).
Maya M — Google review
I tried the linguica sausage stew “Porotos con longaniza” and my husband tried the beef version “porotos con plateada”. Both dishes were delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. They gave a salsa with bread as an appetiser and we were very content with the prices. We sat outside whilst music was playing from a street band, they had candles and outdoor heaters, the atmosphere was truly tranquil. Would recommend if wanting to try Chilean food in Santiago!
Kara H — Google review
Local introduced us to the Chilean food. Very good experience. The server showed us the food in photos. We ordered the seafood soup, it was really good. Have to praise our server, excellent services and even with language barrier, he can read our body language and gave us the best services. 👍🏻

Haute French restaurant
Baco is a stylish restaurant in Santiago that offers French cuisine and a wide selection of wines. The restaurant is known for its outdoor seating and friendly, unobtrusive service. With a focus on well-curated wines, Baco offers over 200 bottles and around 25 rotating selections by the glass, including Chilean options alongside French choices. The menu features classic French dishes made with locally sourced ingredients from the region's markets.
Baco is an absolute gem. The staff is incredibly attentive and genuinely friendly, the kind of service that makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. They offer complimentary water, don’t charge a service fee, and still go above and beyond. The food is outstanding. I highly recommend the stroganoff — one of the best I’ve had. It’s my favorite restaurant in Santiago, and a place I’ll definitely be coming back to!
Matheus M — Google review
Very nice place for really good food and wine. The wine by the glass is very convenient and their selection is well made. Downstairs seems nice, but we stayed upstairs.

Restaurant Baco: A Top Dining Spot We had an exceptional meal at Restaurant Baco! Even with a queue to get in, it was completely worth the wait. For appetizers, we loved the Steak Tartare and Pork Terrine. Our main courses, the Magret de Canard and Beef Fillet Medallion with Béarnaise, were perfectly cooked. We also enjoyed a refreshing Pisco Sour and their unique Wine Tea (red fruits with wine). The food was outstanding, and the service was great. It's clearly a fantastic restaurant – highly recommended!

My name is Daniela. My friend from Santiago took me here yesterday and it was an amazing evening. The place is chic and people working here are really nice. Food is delicious and you can see this fromthe photos. The rose' was delicate and very nice. For sure a restaurant to visit and to impress your friends. Location is also beautiful

OMG the best Raviolle I have had in my life. I am visiting Santiago, usually I dont go to the same place twice while I am travelling, I like to explore the options but I needed to except it and went back to Baco twice in a week. How great is everything. Favourite place in Santiago so far!

Excellent food for a good price. Great wine selection by the glass. Best oysters I had in Chile (so far). I also enjoyed the salmon tartar and the pan-fried reineta. Magret de canard was good, but not among the best I had before. Reservations are highly encouraged, but you can still get in line to get a table. It's a large and lively space. Highly recommended.

Amazing wine selection and food. We had seafood and it was really fresh and nice. Service was a bit slow but besides that it was great.

Vegetarian restaurant
El Huerto, located on Orrego Luco Street in Providencia, has been serving vegetarian and vegan cuisine since 1980. Over the years, it has evolved to incorporate flavors from around the world and prioritize small organic producers. The restaurant offers a delightful breakfast and brunch menu starting at 9 AM, featuring options like the Vegan Breakfast which includes natural juice, seasonal fruit salad, sourdough bread with hummus, avocado with sesame seeds, and homemade jam.
The restaurant is big, it has both outdoor, bar, and inside sitting. The place is nicely decorated and gives a welcoming and fresh feeling. The service was great, servers were attentive and helpful. The food is lovely, everything cooked to perfection and tasty. The drinks were also great, the natural juice was refreshing and they give the option of sugar or no sugar. Overall, would recommend this restaurant for vegetarian/vegan dine outs.
Rodrigo R — Google review
Me and my boyfriend went to this restaurant because of the amazing google review but we didn’t notice it was a vegetarian/vegan restaurant, when we got there we decided to stay but very discouraged AND what a surprise: the food was amazing, very tasty, different flavors and experiences, one of our best reviews in Santiago for sure.
Isadora A — Google review
Delicious soups! Great location -reminds me of West Village in NYC. Kind staff. Sandwiches were a bit small. Bread was good, and they gave extra for free.
Donna C — Google review
This is a classy vegetarian restaurant that has a nice selection of vegetarian starters and main dishes influenced by different cuisines from around the world - for example Thai, Middle Eastern, Mexican, Indian and Peruvian cuisines are all represented. I had the hummus to start, the pumpkin soup and burrito as my main course and the crepes with ice cream for dessert. In addition, the restaurant provided a complimentary starter to all diners consisting of multi grain buns and a red pepper dip. All the items were delicious. The service staff were all courteous, professional and English speaking - the menu is also available in English. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. The restroom was clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this restaurant to those that enjoy delicious vegetarian meals inspired from different parts of the world served by friendly staff in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Peter K — Google review
Definitely this restaurant is a go-to spot if you’re into vegan and vegetarian food. The food? Amazing. Big portions and very flavorful. The Nuevo México and Falafel Al Plato are definitely worth trying—I’d go back just for those. They also have a bar with some creative cocktails. I gave the Diane Keaton cocktail a shot, but it was a bit heavy on the ice. They’ve got indoor and outdoor seating options. It does get busy, though. I went on a Sunday around 2:30 p.m., and it was packed, but that just shows how popular it is. Credit cards accepted. If you’re in Santiago and want some high-quality veggie dishes, this place is a solid choice.
Valek — Google review
Amazing vegan place! The food was so good. The mocktails are good too. They do have an English menu.

Chilean restaurant
Nestled in the vibrant Bellavista neighborhood, Restaurant El Meson Nerudiano is a delightful homage to Chile's literary icon, Pablo Neruda. Just steps away from La Chascona, his former residence, this charming eatery immerses guests in a world of traditional Chilean cuisine infused with poetry and art. The walls are adorned with inspiring quotes and images of Neruda, creating an intimate ambiance that enhances the dining experience.
I was skeptical because it is in a touristy area, but my experience was marvellous. The atmosphere is wonderful. Birds chirping, a waterfall running, plenty of vegetation and beautiful atmosphere. The food is also amazing, everything made from scratch and done in true local style. The service was extremely attentive, the best service I have had in many years at a restaurant, anywhere. The prices are indeed expensive for Chilean standards, but North American’s would find it still reasonable. I spent about $35 USD for an appetizer, drink, seafood entree, and dessert. Unlike most restaurants they didn’t auto include the gratuity, and instead asked me if I wanted to add 10%. I was more than happy to as the service as worthy of a tip. Yes, it costs a bit of money, but if you want a true Chilean dining experience, this is the place.
Ethan J — Google review
After walking around the city all afternoon and exploring the funicular system, my mom and I were famished but I remembered that Pablo Neruda’s house and the restaurant that is now it it was near us. My mom had wanted to go here but we both wrote it off because we thought we would not have time. I am SO glad we made it though. We sat outside on the patio in the open air under and umbrella and it was so lovely. My mom ordered the crab cakes which came in a bowl instead of actual cakes and we soon found out why. The chefs barely put any breadcrumbs/filling in - they stuffed the bowl with crab meat and seasonings and it was one of the best things my mom and I have put in our mouths. Wow. I ordered the Atún Rojo and holy it was cooked/seared to perfection with some lovely carrots and asparagus. We then had to order the dessert “Un poquito de aquí, Un poquito de allá” and it was absolute perfection. The size of the desserts were perfect little samples of a wine and yogurt dish, a crème brûlée, a chocolate mouse, and a manjar mousse. Very lovely and quick service but there were quite a few people smoking around us.
Maya M — Google review
We had a great food experience, the platter and their Ceviche is outstanding. Cozy atmosphere.
Teresa S — Google review
The food was absolutely fantastic: I had the Red Tuna and it didn't disappoint: very tasty. They serve this little fried bread with two different sauces for you to munch on as you wait for your order - also very yummy. The waiter Orlando was extremely well prepared and ready to educate us about the Chilean cuisine, which I value and respect a lot - you learn a lot from a country's gastronomy but you need well-prepared staff for that, and Orlando was great. Totally recommended restaurant!
Carolina B — Google review
The excellent restaurant tantalizes the senses with authentic Chilean cuisine, each dish a celebration of the country's rich culinary heritage. From the bold flavors of empanadas to the exquisite seafood delicacies, every bite transports diners to the heart of Chile. It's a culinary journey that delights the palate and nourishes the soul.
Wojciech Z — Google review
If you come to s Santiago, make sure you come to the park and ride the funicular down the hill and have lunch or dinner at this location. The food is absolutely amazing. The restaurant is in a 1910 built facility and is amazing architecture. The service is impeccable. The food was beyond expectation, the service was matching. Do not miss this opportunity.
Michael R — Google review
Fabulous lunch in the garden. Great pisco sours, delicious empanadas, fresh fish and more. Our waiter was outstanding... Friendly, helpful, gave us a tour of where they have live music. Perfect location near the funicular, too. Couldn't have asked for more on our first day in Santiago!

It's a favorite among office workers and visitors looking for a delicious sandwich or soup-salad combo. The restaurant also offers a good cocktail list and an excellent wine selection.

I'm in a cute spot, and the patio is nice. The drinks were okay, espresso was great, and the salad I had was bomb! They do have gluten-free options, but they weren't sure off hand, so I had to ask questions to figure out what I could eat.

Felipe B — Google review
Super trendy decor, this place captures the heart and soul of this busy downtown. Nice and fresh menu selection. Blue Jar is the place to be seen in the middle of the day where politicians, executives and a trendy city crowd all form this up and coming Santiago institution. Bookings are essential yet we were walk-ins and got a super nice welcome to available tables.
John S — Google review
They don't have like 70% of what they offer in the menu. The waiter didn't know about some of the items in the menu and claim that it was too old. I ordered a cold coffee and got a hot one, besides, it tasted not ok. One of my companions order something that never arrived at the table. The waitress just said that the system didn't take the order and not offer an apology at least

Le Fournil is a Mediterranean restaurant known for its carry-out breakfast and light quiche and salad lunch options. It offers a unique version of pizza called tartine, using homemade bread as a base. The restaurant also provides a children's menu, which is uncommon in Chile. The ambience is relaxing with both indoor and outdoor seating, including an enclosed terrace. Fresh breads, pastries, baguettes with cheese & avocado or scrambled eggs are served for breakfast.
......we simply feel in love with this restaurant when we first come here! The have that great ambience of relaxation and food enjoyment! The place is big with inside and outside seating! Inside the even have an enclosed terrace! The decor in pleasant! When you look through the windows the niceties that you observe draw you in! Fresh breads and delicious pastries! The breakfast they serve are simple, baguettes with cheese & avocado or scrambled eggs even with fresh fruits! The coffee and Cappuccinos are great and served hot! Even had my “Happy Fathers Day B-fast in Chile” here....a must visit when in Santiago de Chile!........

Le Fournil's menu features an all-day brunch and a selection of French pastries, including pain au chocolat, financiers, croissants, canelé, and macarons. I found the poche ($5,990), made with brioche bread, caper mayonnaise, ham, lettuce, avocado, and a fried egg, to be average. However, the mint lemonade ($5,490) was refreshing and the highlight of my meal. The service was friendly, but the staff seemed somewhat aloof regarding the menu options. The restaurant's opening hours are as follows: Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Thursday to Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 10:30 P.M., Saturday from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 P.M., and Sunday from 9:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Farmers Markets
Located in the heart of downtown Santiago, Mercado Tirso de Molina is a bustling market offering a range of local fruits and vegetables, groceries and food vendors. If you're looking for an off-the-beaten path experience, be sure to check out the second floor where you'll find international eateries including traditional Chilean and Peruvian-Asian fusion as well as artisanal cafés, sweet shops and some of the best Thai food in the city.
Some of the best food I’ve had in my few visits to Santiago on the 2nd floor. Wonderful flavors. Fresh fruit and vegetables on the 1st floor.
Nick H — Google review
Flea Market style place. Mostly veggies and fruits. But you could find random other things like maybe clothes and shoes. Good place for tourists to see something different. Just a very shady area SO BE VIGILANT!
Adán B — Google review
fresh food market. prices can be had lower on the street but more variety is had here. some items not visible priced. I was quoted a higher price than the person before for blueberries. prices might seem good but they will have half or quarter on the price in small print.
WelcomeHome76 — Google review
Went to this market to get fresh fruits and vegetables. It's slightly cheaper than your usual supermarket. Just need to get through the sellers camping outside the market and bridge. A lot of the prices vary - have a walk around to see which ones are reasonably priced. E.g. overly ripened bananas are priced cheaper. Some shops have a min spend to use credit card. A lot of competitive food restaurants on the 2nd floor. Didn't give it a go.
Wilson L — Google review
DO NOT GO HERE AS A TOURIST! My partner and I were crossing the bridge towards this market yesterday and were robbed in broad daylight at 2pm. First someone ripped a necklace from my neck. Then another person tried to rip a bracelet that was barely visible from my wrist. We crossed the road to the other side of the bridge sensing it was really unsafe when three men approached us appearing to have guns under their shirts. They demanded our things and only left when I handed the bracelet over. There were so many people on the bridge watching but no one helped us. We only managed to get away when a couple in a car pulled up and told us to get in.
Sioné P — Google review
If you are looking for a reasonably priced meal the first floor food court is full of small outlets selling dishes from various South American countries
Simon H — Google review
This market is the opposite of the market across the bridge. The central market is a more tourist friendly and expensive location that isn’t really busy or bustling Sunday to Tuesday. The De Abastos market is local, more rustic and more varied in items you can purchase and authenticity. The prices are also cheaper but tourists will stick out very obviously. Be prepared to be a topic of interest if you are not Chilean.

This place is an interesting and picturesque spot to visit when you are in Santiago city. Just on the other side of Mapocho river in front of Mercado Central. So it's up to you whether you have lunch in Mercado or Tirso de Molina. At Tirso you can find many fruits and vegetables stalls on basement, and on the first floor it's plenty of various restaurants with either traditional Chilean or Peruvian food. Even we can find a Thai restaurant in this section. The quality of the food is not really high if you compare it with other restaurants in this capital city, but I think that it's a nice experience to have a seat in this place. I've been there twice and enjoyed a "merluza frita con ensalada Chilena" (deep fried hake with tomato & onion salad) and a "Peruvian ceviche". If you decide to eat fish or seafood, ask the waitress for a "tecito frío" (cold tea/USD 2), that's in fact a cup ☕ of white wine that's not permitted to be sold there by the alcohol authorities. Go there and enjoy!!!

Vegan restaurant
Vegan Bunker, situated in Barrio Italia, offers a diverse menu featuring vegan fast food and traditional Chilean dishes. The restaurant serves an array of burgers, sandwiches, chorrillanas, and daily specials alongside delectable desserts like cakes and pies. Despite its name, the eatery is not an actual bunker but a sunny diner providing 100% plant-based comfort food. Families with children can enjoy a dedicated area for kids to engage in activities while adults savor their vegetarian meals.
A bit hidden, but worth the quest of finding it. Fully vegan with plenty of different sandwiches to choose from. Plays 80s power ballads background music, perfect for that extra feeling. I had the mixed lemonade, with ingredients I did not understand, but it was very fresh. I had the Bunker sandwich, had a bunch of fresh veggies and some kind of not that warm patty. It was good, but no taste sensation. Fast service.

We love the vibe of this place and the staff were friendly and responsive. It really is a hidden gem and seems to be a local hangout. We thought the food was okay but honestly the vegan food in Santiago has been so next level, it is probably on par with most vegan options internationally. We had a burger with a homemade patty that we enjoyed but the overall flavor was a bit flat. We also had a tofu bowl which was really good but kind of hard to eat without making a mess (maybe dice the lettuce at the bottom so taking a bit doesn't pull quinoa and other items out of the bowl?). The dessert and ice cream wasn't our favorite but we only tried one. The many desserts in the case looked really good so we may stop by again to try something different. Their seitan main dish seems to be a popular option but they ran out right before we arrived. I'd be interested in trying it out. They also have free WiFi for guests.

Probably the biggest vegan burger I've ever eaten in my whole life. I'm a glutton and even I couldn't beat that monster down! The staff is friendly and warm and they were super patient with me trying to explain things in a way I could understand (since I can't make a word out in Spanish). It's also nice to mention that the "papa fritas" aren't frozen pre-fried, they're real potatoes without conservatives. Amazing! There are also good cakes and shakes. You should definitely try them! Finally, don't be mislead by the misproportioned pictures. The burgers are really huge. Really!

Pretty good... Can't give it 5 🌟 because it's not exceptional but it beats some of the other places in the area. Burgers are huge! You can't go wrong if you try this restaurant!

Asian restaurant
The owners of Hao Hwa Restaurant assert that they have the capability to modify their profile information, incorporate pictures, answer reviews, and perform additional actions. It offers a diverse selection of Japanese, Chinese, and Thai cuisine. Despite having an extensive menu which may cause apprehension, all dishes were delectable. The server Eduardo was friendly. One must-try dish is the pork ramen which exhibits a delightful flavor profile enriched by sesame oil.
Good food, friendly servers. We've been traveling for a while and wanted some Asian food. This satisfied our cravings. Pretty good Asian food for being so far away from Asia. Convenient location.

Fresh food market
Supermarket
Mercado la Vega is a bustling and spacious market housed in a warehouse-like space, offering an array of edible goods from prepared foods to fresh produce. The climate in Chile allows for the growth of various fruits and vegetables, making the market a sight to behold with its gorgeous and plentiful offerings. Visitors can explore rows of vendors selling local avocados, Peruvian chiles, and superfood powders like camu camu and spirulina.
If you never been to a South American market, this is the one to visit. It is big. It is organized (if you've been to Mexico City, theirs it is the biggest, but total chaos and not so clean, unlike this one. Clean and very Chilean, calm!!!) I came in for the experience, watching the stall owners proudly displaying their spices, vegetables and fruits, no shouting, just the Chilean singing voice. It is a picture Paradise. Then I headed to the very end where the food stalls area. A maze of tables, but go for the colors. I chose green tables. The little kitchen had an award plaque on the name, I guessed for good higiene. Now, the food. Oh wow. Did taste amazing and at very good price. You can also tell it was cooked with fresh ingredients and plenty spices. Not chili. Tried their National dish Cazuela, a must! (In the right place like here). Explosion of flavors. Followed the cheese fondue prawns that came set on fire! To a tourist, they made me feel very special. So everyone else clapping the hands. I think it was called Chupe de Guatita. Keep some coins as the loo needs 700 pesos. Mind you the lady water lent me 1000 pesos to go quickly before the food, and wash the hands. How nice is this. Well recommended.

Great place for bargain hunting. Lots of fresh produce, meat, groceries and lots more. Shop around and double check quality before buying, don't be afraid to ask. Best time to go is definitely very early as it gets pretty busy sometimes.

A huge-and-all-you-need Vega Central indoors market. It saves you money if you have time to do your shopping here. You can use both card (tarjeta) or cash (effectivo). The municipality needs to invest in improving both infrastructure and cleanliness.

An underrated market. One can find literally everything local and exotic here. Great places especially if you wish to make jams! That’s where all the local restaurant owners come to buy their foods. Great Venezuelan and Colombian fast food stalls. Even real Coffee shops. Cannot miss this place if you are into Latin food!

Na Que Ver is a chilean restaurant that specializes in XL sized dishes, picarona and guachaca. It's open from Monday to Sunday from 12:45pm to until it's all gone, located on General Bulnes street in the vibrant Yungay neighborhood.
By far the best picada in Santiago, Chile! The menu changes on a weekly basis bringing you a diverse choice of local cuisine. The restaurant is very cozy and it feels like you are eating at your grandma’s house. The food is copious and flavourful. The owner is super nice and took the time to talk to us during the lunch rush. N’a Que Ver is a must visit!
Jessica S — Google review
Everything I ate here was good — the meat in the carne a la olla y pastelera was falling-apart tender and the corn was creamy, the dobladitas that you get on the side seem home made and delicious, as was the pebre. The home-made pineapple and basil kombucha, raspberry lemonade, and deserts were also great. Note that the menu changes each week depending on what’s in season, etc, which I like, but you should check the menu online before visiting if you’re worried they won’t have something you like. Also note they can quickly run out if popular dishes like the carne a la olla y pastelera. If I wanted to show friends visiting from overseas good examples of Chilean cooking I would bring them here.

Dominó is a local eatery that offers quick bites and outdoor seating. Customers can place orders at the indoor counter or through an app. The menu features a variety of overloaded hot dogs, including the popular Dinamo, as well as other options like El chacarero de and jugo de chirimoya. As a foreigner this looks like a local quick eats spot. There is seating outdoors and what appears to be wait staff. There is also a counter indoors that is taking orders. I ordered indoors and ended up accidentally getting take out. It also seems like people order by app? So get a good cell plan if you’re here for a while! Hot dogs definitely should be eaten with fork and knife. Since we got take out we didn’t have that option. Overloaded hot dogs was what we expected and it was delicious and filling.

However, the atmosphere is colored by the owner, I have been there approximately 10 times and on all of them the owner insults the lady who serves with names such as that she doesn't listen because she is small, that she is stupid, that she is ignorant. The last time (which was also the last for me) I witnessed the lady's resignation. This delightful pork roll is crafted from carefully selected ingredients, including tender pork meat pulp, savory bacon slices, and a blend of garlic, pepper, and cumin to enhance its flavor.
