Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Terraces, located in Wajima, is a breathtaking sight that has gained popularity among tourists and media. This special place of scenic beauty offers stunning sea views and hosts seasonal events. The terraced rice paddies are a part of Noto's Satoyama and Satoumi, designated as Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems.
Sadly the area is left damaged after the Earthquake but still accessible if mobile enough. The sunset is a must see. Coming 20min before might be the best timing.

Nothing special in these days. There are free parking available. There were toilets and few vendor machines and few shops. Shops were closed, not sure if because of the disaster that happened a year back or if it was a holiday. I checked their website, and it is also not updated.
Udayanga S — Google review
It's quite a drive to get there, and the scenary on the way is quite disturbing because of the distraction of the earthquake. I was there on May 25th, it was still cold, but, the view with flooded paddies and the recently planted rice seedlings was spectacular
Andrea R — Google review
The Noto Peninsula is still reeling after the earthquake. It's hard to get around with all the road closures, but the little tourism it gets makes it worth it to visit right now.
Aaron W — Google review
Such a great gem in the middle of nowhere! I would recommend going there before sunset as the colours are incredible
Marah G — Google review
We visited in July and had a great time exploring the rice terraces! You can of course view them from above, but you can also walk among the terraces, too! In different seasons, there are different displays, such as lights being installed for night viewing. I’d highly recommend visiting this area as it is very impressive! I have seen terraced field in many places across japan and other countries, but this place is especially magical because you it is on the coast.
Mary — Google review
The road leading up to this place is considered as one of the most beautiful in Japan so the drive alone is already worth the trip. I’ve visited both at night for the illumination and in day time and they have their own charms. The night illumination gives an enchanting feeling to visitors and I can only describe it as magical. Visiting during the day gives you a breathtaking view of the rice fields with sea of Japan as its backdrop. It’s a great side trip when visiting the Noto peninsula.
Criselda C — Google review
The rice field seem fine so you can definitely go and visit. There is a parking lot and stairs / path down to the lower level of the rice field. Shop, toilets etc are all closed. Everything in that area is still impacted with lots of road works happening.

Shopping
Wajima Morning Market is a bustling marketplace in the charming town of Wajima, located on the Noto Peninsula. The market features stalls and open-fronted stores offering a wide array of goods including vegetables, home items, crafts, and fresh seafood that can be grilled on-site. This market is renowned for its exquisite lacquerware, with numerous shops showcasing lacquerware items such as chopsticks, bowls, and cups.
Stopping by the Wajima Morning Market was a great decision during our Noto trip. The vendors were all very nice and we found a lot of interesting and delicious items sold at the market.
Criselda C — Google review
When I came here, out of the entire street, there were only 5 shops that was open. I don't know why the shops were not open at that time. (I came here on a Friday) I found this shop that was selling a variety of food, from beef sushi to pizzas. I ended up having the pork bun and it was good in my opinion. PS - I wouldn't recommend eating on the street, as there are hawks watching over and they will snatch your food in a blink of an eye. Just eat in a closed area.
Nicholas T — Google review
My family and I joined the Wajima Go day trip through Hokutetsu. Wajima Morning Market is our first stop. It is very unique and interesting. Most of the vendors sell processed seafood and products rather than fresh food. You will notice there’s a lot of females running the business. The tour guide told us you don’t usually get to negotiate with the price, but it’s better (or okay) to ask for “extras.” For example, you pay ¥1000 for seaweed. You can ask “can I also have X for free”? Hope you get good deals here 😀
Chari H — Google review
A small shopping street full of traditional Japanese eateries and fish flakes. Most of the local produce are sold here. People were very friendly and greeted me with smile
Hitesh G — Google review
This morning market would close by 12 noon. Car parking facilities were available two streets away at the Asaichi Parking lot at a cost. Tourists were welcome and phablets would be given by local authorities once the car was parked. The staff would ensure the travelers know the way to the market. They were very friendly. At the market, there were numerous shops and stalls selling bags, chopsticks, accessories, seafood, vegetables, pottery items, folk crafts, lacquerware ... The vendors were mainly females. There was a charcoal corner in the rest area where buyers were free to use to grill any seafood purchased and eat it right away. Very funny experience.
Martlet — Google review
Small little street with old style stores. Good to check out but not worth dying over for. Grab lunch nearby but also take note of the closing time which is midday. The stores do start picking up at around 11.30 though.

Obviously fewer sellers were on d street in a cold winter Tuesday morning but those unties were full of energy and fun to talk to. You can or they will bargain with you. There's a BBQ pit (Japanese style) located in approx d centre of d street where you can charcoal grill your purchased fish. We had 3 small pieces of famous Nodoguro and blowfish and one large piece of Hachime at 1500yen - all sun-dried and flavoured. Great deal! You can also buy hot Japanese sake at 100yen to go with d bbq.

Museums
The Wajima Kiriko Art Museum, also known as Wajima Kiriko Kaikan, is a captivating museum located about 1.5 km east of the center of Wajima city. It showcases the impressive Kiriko Festival, a summer festival celebrated in various towns across the Noto area. The museum features towering lantern floats called Kiriko, which are central to the festival's traditions.
The Noto Peninsula earthquake has been a disaster. I stopped by on my way back from the morning market in Wajima. To be honest, I did not have high expectations, but I was a little...or rather, quite surprised! The staff at the museum gave us a very detailed explanation of the museum, and above all, the lit lanterns shone so beautifully and colorfully in the dimly lit museum...it was like the old Yoshiwara oiran (courtesans) on TV, and it gave us a special feeling of having our gaze captured at once. ‼️ The admission fee is different for individuals and groups, but it is 630 yen for an adult. The Kirigo is usually only seen from below at festivals, but at the hall you can look down and admire it from the second floor, which made me want to see it parading through the streets next year. Even if you couldn't make it to the festival, it's worth a look. ‼️

A wonderful Kiriko museum displaying a culture unique to the Noto area. There are many Kiriko on display that are still being used during the summer festival. The museum is well runned and organised with good facilities. Even more rewarding if you are able to see the festival as well to expeerience the energy.

Beautiful museum demonstrates kirikos and national traditions. Exhibits are well decorated and occupy the biggest part of museum. There are a lot of children among visitors. Souvenirs shop proposes many locally produced goods including food, sake, seafood and sweets. The museum is very attractive place in Wajima.

Fascinating museum of huge Kiriko shrines of laquer and gold leaf that are carried in festivals. Great movie that shows the fervor of the people who carry the tall heavy "lanterns".
Lydia C — Google review
The museum is great. You can see the shrines from Meiji and Edo period. Recommended to visit.
Akash D — Google review
620yen per adult entry. You will see magnificent display of Kiriko (soft of altar to offer prayers to gods) unique in Noto regions. Video clips will show how each festival is conducted. Some are quite aggressive and very exciting.

Small museum but it’s absolutely worth to visit. Awesome art. The tour guide said the festival is on 22nd August every year...

The Wajima Lacquerware Museum is a must-visit for those interested in Japanese lacquerware. The museum showcases the art of making lacquerware, displaying pieces from ancient generations. Visitors can witness the process and admire the exquisite lacquerware on display. While the market may not be extensive, it offers an opportunity to purchase these beautiful wares.
Cool place to learn about lacquer. I always thought they were cheap plastic

Very nice place to visit if much interested with japanese lacquerware. You can see how these ware are being made they have lacquerware from the very old generation. I enjoyed watching the gorgeous lacquerware displayed inside the museum. Its a small museum and the entrance fee is very reasonable. They have big parking
Dodo — Google review
Wonderful lacquer ware, but the market itself is not as extensive as one might imagine and the lacquer ware can be bought elsewhere. Probably not worth the drive from Kanazawa but recommended if you are closer.
Mark O — Google review
Extremely arranged museum of lacquer utensils from ancient Japan. It also has a souvenir store at the first floor that sells some of the lacquer wares made today using similar techniques.

The Wajima Museum of Lacquer (Urushi) Art showcases a wide array of lacquer artifacts, including historical pieces dating back to the Jomon period. Visitors can learn about the intricate process of creating timeless dishware and gain insight into the comprehensive history behind Wajima Lacquerware. The museum also features exhibits from graduates of various art academies alongside classic examples. Additionally, visitors can admire a grand piano and a large globe made of black lacquer with countries depicted in gold powder.
The “Earth at Night” story and resulting pieces are amazing. Indescribable. The quality of craftsmanship could only be achieved here in Wajima. The “Inside Inside” exhibit was equally rewarding. This museum is worthwhile but unfortunately no placards are written in English.

Good, complehensive history of Wajima laquer ware. Size of special exhibition was small, therefore not persuasive. A place worth visiting.

(Translated by Google) The Noranke Bus and Urushi Techniques Training Center bus stops are right in front of you. It is the only museum in the world specializing in lacquer art. You can learn about the traditional Wajima-nuri technique. We learned about the history of lacquer being used for thousands of years. In addition to tableware such as bowls, there are also contemporary art pieces, and I think the craftsmanship of the craftsmen can be shown to the world. I took my time and enjoyed the lacquered globe as the light changed from various angles and the way it looked changed. Works by Living National Treasures, members of the Art Institute, and traditional Asian crafts were also on display. There was also a lacquer tree on the second floor. 2024.12.14. I was able to view the exhibited works for free. It seems that the exhibits are changed about once every two months. The onejima goods are so cute. There was also a temporary workshop of a Wajima lacquer craftsman on the premises. I have a feeling that this place will become a symbol of the revival of Wajima lacquerware in the future. I would definitely like to go again. The restaurant Shimpuku in Wajima is renowned for their welcoming nature and thoughtful service. The staff members, who were recommended by the rental car store employees, displayed genuine friendliness and kindness. Engaging in conversation with the chef was a particular highlight. One delightful choice from their menu was the local fish nigiri set, which included a broiled nodoguro that boasted an enticing aroma and delectable taste.
Their warm hospitality and considerate performance in food(even soup and green tea were very good) made our visit to Wajima special. I got the recommendation of this restaurant from the staff at rental car store. All the staffs were really friendly and kind. Especially we enjoyed the talk with the chef. I ordered a local fish nigiri set and a nodoguro nigiri. Nodoguro was a little bit broiled and really tasty with great aroma. The nigiri set was very good quality too. I wanna come back here every time I come to Noto.

Ordered the premium nigiri sushi set (2700yen) and it was really great. Had to queue for around 15 mins before entering though. Ambience was nice and one of the freshest sushi I had ate, highly recommended!

I am a Japanese national living in the US for 37 years who visited Wajima first time a few weeks ago this summer. My simple inquiry about the partying space with the sushi chef and potential waiting time for dining, I was told that I was bothering their customers, and implied to leave. Their sushi might be good, but this is the rudest and most ignorant chef I had ever experienced anywhere in the world. Please do stay away.

Yummy sushi, this seems like a popular place even among locals. The waiters are really sweet and as soon as they see foreigners , they check if you would like to sit at the counter. There is also grilled fish etc at night but during lunch you get sashimi & sushi set meals. Oh and they gave us free chopsticks from the area!

Wara is a hidden gem that seafood lovers must visit! Nestled in a charming location, this restaurant offers an array of delectable seafood bowls that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. During my recent trip, I was enticed by the Seiko Crab Bowl, which is available only in November. After a scenic six-hour journey from Mie Prefecture and exploring the vibrant Wajima morning market, I finally arrived at Wara.

(Translated by Google) P.S. Latest information!! ️ It seems that it has moved and reopened at 14-16 Kizui, Kahoku City, Ishikawa Prefecture. I'm glad you're doing well. As for the fish, I would like to go eat the Kanburi Matsuri-don (market price), which was shipped directly from Noto. It seems that they are closed on Wednesdays, open for lunch, and open from 6pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please search for the store name "Kaisendon Wara". postscript 2023/03/24 It was listed as open on Google Maps, so I went to the place where there was straw with little hope, but it turned out to be the exact site of the Wajima Great Fire that was reported on the news. It was like watching a city destroyed by war. The car was burnt and covered in rust. ❰I noticed later that there is probably a black door on the right side of the rusty car when the video starts, and I think this door is Mr. Wara's door❱According to reviews, the landlady and her son I was relieved to know that he was safe. If you are thinking of going to the site, please be aware that landslides and earthquakes may occur at any time. Please do so at your own risk. As you approach Wajima on the way, every time you pass a disaster relief vehicle or a disaster volunteer vehicle, don't you think the cars with license plates from other prefectures look like they're just on the lookout? Isn't this a place you shouldn't go to? I headed there feeling conflicted. The Noto Expressway has collapsed roads, detours and waves, so please limit your speed. There was a public toilet in the morning market parking lot, and I used it, but the men's toilet was available, but the water didn't run. The older one was in a miserable condition. If you are coming from the Toyama Prefecture side, I think it would be a good idea to use the roadside station Himi. ❰There is a temporary toilet at Roadside Station Noto. We also had go-go curry❱ Police cars from all over the country are patrolling constantly, so please don't do anything bad. Finally, I pray for the repose of the souls of those affected. About a week after I visited, Wajima City was devastated by a major earthquake. Since the last earthquake, I've been trying to go to hot springs and restaurants on the Noto Peninsula to show support, but I'm disappointed. I'm relieved that the reviews say it's safe. I think it's going to be tough until it rebuilds, but once things calm down again, I'd like to go to Wara-san to eat seafood bowls and other things to support them q(*・ω・*)p Fight! Visited on 2023/12/24. Kanburi Festival Bowl ¥3,000 - Large size + ¥100 - On this day, we had 12kg of Kanburi (kanburi yellowtail), which was big and filling.🎶There were no other customers and we were talking, but just because it was Kanburi, they didn't raise the price and it might be hard to eat. I don't know, but since it's cold yellowtail, they serve it in large pieces. This is a great store for yellowtail lovers. You won't regret it if you eat it at the ❰ straw ❱ instead of eating at the seafood restaurant in the ice port 😃 I recommend it 👍 If you have salt-grilled yellowtail radish or yellowtail radish, it's a ⭐5. (Translated by Google) I came here in April to try the seafood bowl and was told, ``If you come in November, you can try the Seiko Crab Bowl, right?'' So I came here on a day trip from Mie Prefecture. After visiting the Wajima morning market, which took 6 hours each way, we lined up to eat seiko crab bowl. It's hard to throw away the 1,650 yen seafood bowl, but this time I'm planning on eating the Seiko Crab Bowl, so I checked the menu inside the restaurant. The price is 3,150 yen…(☉。☉)! Isn't it expensive? But is it something like this? I wondered if I could eat two seafood bowls, but I ordered the Seiko Crab Bowl. Seiko crab bowl has arrived. Hmm, there's not much volume, right? Maybe this is not enough even though you are eating? The seafood bowl I was eating next to me looked delicious, so I tried to get a second helping of the seafood bowl, but since there was a line behind me, I passed on it this time. The taste was delicious, but was the rice bowl worth the price? I guess it's expensive if you ask me... ☆2.5~3. In mid-April, I went to Wajima for the night in my car and decided to have breakfast here after reading the reviews. I looked around the market in the morning, and there weren't that many stalls, probably because it was a weekday. I looked at the clock and it was 8:40... I thought I'd wait in my car for 20 minutes until the store opened, but when I headed to the parking lot, I saw a sign saying it was open. I put my luggage in the car, and it's a little early, but is it okay? When I visited my mother, she said OK. First of all, I ordered the seafood bowl without hesitation. While the food is being made, I talk to the mother. When I told him that I had come from Mie Prefecture, he said that he saw his first customer from Mie Prefecture yesterday. I couldn't be the first customer lol Seafood rice bowl made in about 5 minutes. 1,650 yen is cheap for this volume. The sashimi is thick and the rice is more than other restaurants, so I'm very satisfied. Ara soup is also delicious. In particular, the freshly caught sweet shrimp this morning was super delicious, and I had never eaten anything so delicious before. Mom was cooking sweet shrimp behind the counter. Sweet shrimp is delicious. Can I eat that sweet shrimp now? When I asked her, she said yes. I had just finished eating the seafood bowl, but I knew I would regret it if I didn't try the delicious sweet shrimp here, so I ordered the sweet shrimp bowl as well. Can it be eaten? When I was asked about this, I asked for a regular sized portion, saying that I would definitely be able to finish the food I was served. A sweet shrimp bowl containing about 30 sweet shrimp came out. First, eat only sweet shrimp. It's delicious, it's too delicious. My brother asked me to eat some soup, so I got another set of pickles. My mother gave me some filefish liver dressing as a service. This is also excellent and has no odor at all. I thought about eating this in a bowl, but I couldn't eat three bowls, so I finished the amaebi bowl first. I ate a seafood bowl and a sweet shrimp bowl and it cost 3,150 yen. Everyone, you should come to this store "Wara". I'm going to try the limited-time menu "Seiko Crab Crab Bowl" in November. Mom, thank you for the meal~ (Original)

(Translated by Google) When I entered the restaurant, it looked like a snack bar, so I was worried that I had come to the wrong place, but when I saw the words "seafood bowl" I felt at ease and went in. I ordered a seafood bowl and fried puffer fish. The puffer fish was thick and overflowing with juice, and all the ingredients in the seafood bowl were fresh and very delicious. (The portions were large, so if you don't have a big appetite, you might want to order less rice.) The ingredients in the seafood bowl change every day depending on the market conditions, so there are no photos posted...I would like to go and eat it again if I get the chance. L'Atelier de NOTO is a remarkable dining experience that combines French cuisine with a Japanese twist. The talented chef, Toshiya Ikehata, skillfully incorporates fresh local produce from Noto Peninsula into his dishes. Guests rave about the Dinner Course A, praising each delicious dish. The restaurant's warm ambiance and attentive service create an inviting atmosphere for a romantic evening. Housed in a beautiful wooden structure typical of Japan, the tranquil setting adds to the overall charm of the dining experience.
Fresh seasonal vegetables and extremely delicious food, the atmosphere was quiet and beautiful in the evening and was very romantic. We enjoyed our evening here very much and the food was top notch. You certainly need a reservation and to check this place out if you love French food with a Japanese inspired twist. Will certainly eat here again next time we visit.

Amazing food by a talented chef! We have eaten at a number of Michelin Star restaurants and this restaurant is better than the ones we have tried in Tokyo. The chef, Toshiya Ikehata, is born and raised in Noto Peninsula so he uses fresh local produce in his cooking. We ordered the Dinner Course A and every dish we tried was delicious. The restaurant has a warm ambience and the service was attentive and great. Chef Ikehata-san even sent us off after we finished our meal. Highly highly recommended! 👍

A beautiful wooden house typical of Japan around a small enclosed garden. Food is just delicious based on local nutriments.

Simply don't miss it if you come over here. This is the best French restaurant in Noto Peninsula as a lunch. The taste hospitality, atmosphere and price, everything is just perfect! In addition, over 90% of ingredient is from this local area, Noto. Lunch from JPY 3,300 excluding TAX. We can use a credit card if our payment is JPY 10,000 or more. Reservations strongly recommended.

I don't know who gave less than 5 stars, I'd give 6 if I could. Really unique ingredients which I'd never have ordered on my own, cooked in ways which blew my mind. At the same time, common ingredients and dishes were elevated and refined. Sake selection was small but perfectly chosen, staff were professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Loved the building with its sunlit courtyard. A real treasure which the people of Wajima are rightly proud of

Yabu Shimbashi is a consistently satisfying restaurant that offers well-crafted teishoku sets featuring local and seasonal ingredients at affordable prices. They also provide private rooms for larger groups and have professional, efficient service. The teishoku meals are served on Wajima Nuri, a unique product of the area, allowing guests to experience its distinctive qualities. Additionally, customers have the option to take home their own pair of chopsticks as a souvenir.

(Translated by Google) Visited on 2024.07.13 Despite the scars left by the earthquake, we have resumed operations. There weren't many restaurants open yet, so I decided to visit at different times. The sashimi set meals I received all seemed to be locally fried fish, and were extremely fresh and delicious. The ingredients seem to be locally produced for local consumption, and the rice is also locally sourced. It was delicious with sweet, fluffy rice. The staff's kind and smiling customer service made my heart feel warm. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. It's a calm restaurant with comfortable seats. We had the blowfish pickled rice bowl, the grilled pufferfish bowl, and the fried pufferfish, and they were all very delicious. There are many other menu items, including set meals with udon and soba noodles, as well as Chinese and Western dishes. I want to eat soba next time I go. Aiuto! is a restaurant in Wajima that has left many visitors deeply moved with its unique Italian cuisine. The restaurant is known for using local ingredients such as vegetables, meats, and fish to create dishes that showcase the traditional Italian cooking techniques blended with the flavors of Wajima. Visitors have expressed their amazement at the one-of-a-kind taste of 'Wajima Italian cuisine' and have described their experiences as being speechless after enjoying a meal.
I took a friend visiting from Italy, he said this place offers "very unique Italian cuisine can be made only in Wajima". They use almost all ingredients, vegetables, meats and fishes from the local and cook them in very unique way. The chef has a great sense of mixing the traditional Italian cooking technique and local foods in Wajima also have a long tradition here. It turns out the one and only taste, "Wajima Italian cuisine" is just terrific. This place is so popular now, so all tables are booked up every night, it's better to call at least couple of weeks before. Or after 9pm you might have a chance to get a few seats.

(Translated by Google) Last night, someone special to me made a reservation and I visited for the first time. I can't express it well, but I was deeply moved. This is the first time I have ever had the experience of being speechless after receiving a meal. When people eat something really delicious, their minds go blank. It's still too early to talk about this shop, so I'd like to visit it many times. We had a great time preparing the plates. Thank you so much! ! We understand that these are still difficult times, but please do not push yourself too hard and we wish you good health. (Translated by Google) I made a reservation when I visited Wajima as a volunteer to support the reconstruction effort. The dishes, which use local ingredients such as Nanao oysters, Noto pufferfish, which is the second largest catch in Japan, and Noto beef, are all delicious and reasonably priced. The hospitality is excellent, and I felt nothing but happiness from the time I made the reservation call until I left the restaurant. I would love for everyone to try the Italian cuisine, which is filled with the chef and his wife's humble personalities and their love for Noto. Thank you for the delicious drinks and food. I will definitely come again! Especially appetizers, noodles, stewed rice, and desserts! The main course is good, but the experience level is not as high as others.
