Outdoor Activities
Nestled along the picturesque southeast coast of Lake Michigan, Oval Beach is a year-round haven for sunbathers, swimmers, and nature enthusiasts alike. This gay-friendly beach boasts stunning sand dunes and is adjacent to the Saugatuck Harbor Natural Area, making it an ideal spot for leisurely walks and exploration. Renowned for its beauty, Oval Beach has earned accolades from prestigious publications like Conde Nast Traveler and National Geographic.
Love this beach. Water is pretty shallow, great deep sand. The dunes are just gorgeous and the scenery is amazing. Not too crowded. Definitely recommend
Gideon W — Google review
The beach is picturesque, with a very long and wide view. Be careful about swimming as there are few warnings about cross currents. Very few facilities compared to the $15 entry fee. No lifeguard, no live saving equipment. Only 1 restroom facility in the middle, so you have to walk a long way to get there. Restrooms are not clean either. You need to take your own sitting arrangements to stay near the beach.
Najmul H — Google review
Plenty of parking at 1030am on a Tuesday in June and not crowded at all. Definitely got busier as the day went on but plenty of beach space. Gorgeous views, perfect sand and easy shallow entry and never got deep all the way to the bouys. The $15 entry allows you to come and go so we came back for sunset in the evening as well. Only thing that needs to happen is a bathroom upgrade/update which is hopefully planned in the near future.

Coming from the rocky (but also beautiful) beaches of the Great Lake Erie, the soft sands of Oval Beach on Lake Michigan were amazing. Listening to the sand "sing" underfoot was fascinating. Water was clear, warm, and refreshing, but beware- no lifeguards. Views atop the dunes were well worth the effort of climbing the paths. Also know there is a day fee for entry- not a free park.

Loved this beach! It was my first time at Lake Michigan and I was blown away by how clear the water was. The waves were calm, the sand was soft though a bit deep, and the water access was amazing. When we went the first day it was not crowded at all, probably because it was right on the edge of off season. It was the middle of the day, hot and refreshing, and the swim section was large. I wished it was a little deeper. The second day was a completely different story. The biting flies were unbearable and there were hundreds of them swarming us. We ran into the water but they clung to our backs, and when we got out they had camped out in our bags. It turned into a full run back to the car. I have never experienced anything like it and it really feels like this is a beach you have to time just right to enjoy.

Oval Beach is gorgeous! We went on a Tuesday in June. We got a later start than I had hoped, so I was worried about parking and crowds. We arrived at the park between 9:45 and 10 am. Much to my delight, the parking was PLENTIFUL and the beach was not crowded. It did get more crowded as the day went on, but it was totally manageable. The sand was soft and beautiful and not hot in most places. Our main experiences with beaches have been along the Gulf Coast, and this beach was very different in a good way. We did not have to dodge jellyfish or seaweed. The sand was clean and not littered with trash and cigarette butts. It wasn't surrounded by high-rise condos and beach umbrellas. It was beautiful! The water, even in June, was very cold, so not getting to swim was a bummer for my teenagers, but we enjoyed playing in the sand, sitting and watching the waves, and going for a walk over the sand dunes and down the beach. We also watched people flying kites, people in sailboats, and a couple of sailboarders. So much fun to watch! There was a nice playground and concession stand as well as bathrooms with places to change and showers to wash off the sand. We did have to pay for a day pass, but it was well worth the money, even though we only stayed for about 4 hours!
Jodi S — Google review
Beautiful beach ran by the city. It was fun to walk along and enjoy. Since this is run by the city, they charge you $15 to get into it. Luckily since we went during the week it was not crowded at all. The facilities at the beach were fairly clean.

Easy access to beach from parking lot.Awesome sand, clear waters and plenty of parking. Entry fee for the day is $15. Bring bug sprays. Watched sun around 6:30pm.

Ferries
The Saugatuck Chain Ferry, in operation since 1838, is the last hand-cranked ferry in the country. It spans the Kalamazoo River and provides a unique way to reach Oval Beach from downtown Saugatuck without using a car. The ferry operates from Memorial Day to Labor Day and offers a scenic journey across the river for a small fare.
This is a really convenient way of getting from one side of the Kalamazoo River to the other. It's only 3 dollars for adults, one way and a dollar for children. The two kids that took Us across have to crank a wheel that moves the Ferry on a chain from one side to the other. It's awesome to see. Try Em out.
Chris P — Google review
Only hand operated crank chain ferry in the country. Very unique. Takes you from Saugatuck downtown over to Oval Beach (0.6 M) and Mt Baldhead.

Great crew, very friendly and helpful.

Such a great experience! Highly recommend riding simply for the history and a nice, calm ride!
Tosheina M — Google review
If you're walking this is the quickest way to get to Mt. Baldhead. The pricing is okay but you have to pay again for your return trip. If you're going to Oval Beach I recommend driving.
David C — Google review
Excellent ferry across the Kalamazoo River. The young pilots were extremely nice. Went to Baldy's for lunch after climbing the nearly 300 steps to the top of Mt. Baldhead. Awesome place to take visiting family and friends!

Fun little trip across the river. Plan to have cash 3.00 for adults and 1.00 for kids.this is for one way only.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Mount Baldhead Park in Saugatuck, Michigan offers a picturesque natural escape with its forested surroundings and stunning views. The highlight of the park is the 282-step climb to the summit of Mount Baldhead, where visitors are treated to breathtaking panoramic views of Saugatuck, the Kalamazoo River, and Lake Michigan. For those seeking a more leisurely experience, there's a one-mile loop trail that leads to Oval Beach.
I could almost hear Led Zeppelin singing Stairway to Heaven as we ascended the 303 steps. Reach the top...don't be disappointed by having absolutely no view. Wander a little further to the left and you will quickly be on a path leading to a view point above the beach. Wander to the right and you head straight down to the lake front beach area. Well worth the visit.
Andre K — Google review
Challenging staircase to the top of the mountain, with three moderate main trails leading to the dunes and beach. They could use better markers, the wind has all but worn away the ridge trail at its peak but it's still passable. Very sandy trails, some roots and downed trees that are marked.
Christopher J — Google review
I had my rehearsal dinner there at the covered pavilion picnic area 17 years ago & got married on Oval Beach. We went back to visit for our anniversary & everything looks exactly the same. Beautiful peaceful area. Nice folks everywhere.
Jacie D — Google review
Not worth the 303 steps. Climbed all the way up just to find out that you can barely see Lake Michigan from the top and have to walk down the sand dunes or something to see it. The view of Kalamazoo Lake is decent but not what I went for at all. Might be better in winter when there aren’t any leaves on the trees but other than that NOT WORTH IT.
Maddie J — Google review
It was a nice morning trip. Make sure you are ready for some stairs. The views were good. Does not take a lot of time. Worth the walk.
Anthony — Google review
Mount Baldhead Park is connect to Oval Beach. If you want to go to Oval Beach, there are other paths too 303 wooden steps up 250 feet to the top of the Mt. Baldhead dune. Very challenging indeed especially in the summer. There are some shades along the staircase and breakpoint. Once you get on top to the observation platform, you can get a nice view of the Kalamazoo river bend. Come here early because parking lot is small. After lunch, people swamp in and police have to close the street.
FriedChicken — Google review
Not a lot of parking but enough. A couple hundred stairs up but there are plenty of places to stop and rest. The view going up is so pretty! Can't wait to see it in the fall.
Baby J — Google review
Steps were easy enough to ascend. Nice little benches along the way, about every two flights for those who need a breather. The platform at the top for viewing the scenery was really tilted in spots, though. I can imagine folks could stumble up top after their long climb and have a hard time coming back down. We used this path as a way to the dune path that leads to Oval Beach. Nice little climb and walk and bypassed the $15 car entry fee! Great views and scenery to boot.

Concerts & Shows
Saugatuck Center for the Arts, located in a former pie factory, is a vibrant cultural hub offering an array of activities. It provides art camps for kids with professional artists instructing in various creative disciplines. The renowned Ox-Bow School of Art offers family workshops for both kids and adults. Throughout the year, the center hosts prestigious art exhibits and live theater productions.
I’ve seen a few shows here and had good experiences at all of them! I’d definitely return for another show in the future. Comfy seating, friendly staff, beautiful theater, nice and clean facilities and overall good vibes. I will say that I thought the price of the ticket would be half of what we paid, but I get that it’s local theatre asking for what they need to keep running.

My husband and I just popped in while wandering around town. -its a beautiful arts center for locals and tourists to check out. -they have a nice exhibit space that was cool with ac and an even cooler vibe! -they also have a beautiful outdoor garden area with art outside to check out also.

I was captivated by the excellent, professional production of "Come from Away" at SCA on Friday, June 20th! Totally enjoyed every minute. The cast, musicians, and crew worked seamlessly to stage a complex production, which flowed smoothly and quickly through continuous set and character changes, yet never left the audience confused. I believe we all left feeling our faith in humanity, at least a little bit restored after that (and during this) difficult time. This true, unique story deserves to be told, heard and seen. Well played! I'm sorry to hear Saturday's performance was cancelled due to Saugatuck power outage!

SCA was the perfect venue for our wedding reception! Teresa was very helpful throughout the planning process, especially with creating a bar that exclusively served local favorites. All of the staff were professional and easy to work with. We loved that there were so many different ways to use the space, including playing yard games in the rain garden. The recommend vendors were excellent, and our photos came out great with such a beautiful backdrop. Photographs by Liv Lyszyk

BUYER BEWARE! Saugatuck Center for the Arts might cancel your show 70 minutes before curtain and then smirk at you while you stand at the door and cry and tell them that you drove 90 miles from Indiana for the show like they did to us this evening. We had looked forward to seeing this show for months and are utterly heartbroken. This was going to be our first show at SCA. We won’t waste our time and money to try another time, and we will make sure no one else does either.
Carrie K — Google review
The SCA was the first wedding venue we looked at and after meeting Teresa and seeing the space, it was a no-brainer to get ourselves on the schedule! The SCA was truly the coolest wedding venue we could have asked for and their team is the best. The space captures the positive and inclusive vibes of Saugatuck perfectly which was exactly what we were looking for in a venue and the outdoor pavilion and garden were perfect for our brunch-themed celebration. Our guests raved about the natural beauty of the garden, the art gallery, and the unique space. Working with Teresa made the whole process feel seamless and she responded quickly and thoughtfully to all of our questions. We highly recommend the SCA for any event and wish we could do our wedding celebration all over again because we had such an amazing time there!

This farmer-owned cafe and bakery is renowned for shipping unique, ethically sourced coffee beans worldwide. Visitors can savor a variety of delicious hot and cold brews alongside a wide selection of homemade treats.
Loved this little coffee shop. We had drinks and snacks each day for our Valentine's weekend. Service and drinks were good. I loved the uncommon lemonade. It was different each time, and that made it better. There isn't much room inside to sit down, but if you get a seat, it is a great atmosphere.

Awesome coffee spot in Saugatuck! Great coffee and pastries with a nice choice of breakfast sandwiches. The pesto sandwich has a nice, subtle flavor. Comfortable chairs and tables to set up and chat with a friend or study. Great vibe with chilled coffee house music and relaxed vibe!

Came here on a Saturday morning around 11 AM. There was a long line! It went pretty quick though. I got a hot drip coffee and wasn’t very impressed. It was bitter, even with added cream. Maybe their lattes are better!

At this point I have a photo album in my phone dedicated solely to Uncommon. These folks are actually craftspeople, the quality is insane! I have no idea how they do it, but this is actually the BEST shop I've ever been to in my life. But the drinks and food are only half of it, the other part goes to the staff and atmosphere. There's not a single coffee shop I've been to that has this high of a level of connection between pretty much everyone. The baristas and staff are always so happy and willing to chat it up, and this seems to seep into the community of folks that stop in from Saugatuck or surrounding areas, whether they're seasoned regulars or new visitors. I really believe the world needs more spaces like this, coffee shop or otherwise. Uncommon is such a treat, and I'm so grateful I live close enough to visit so often 💖 also, huge shout-out to Jenna for her suggestion on those charcoal tablets, homegirl saved my stomach!

Absolutely delicious coffee. Some of the best I have had. The inside is very cute and cozy for sitting and enjoying a morning pastry and coffee. Even the decaf was good.

A must-try spot to grab a cup of coffee in the morning! Just be aware that there will almost always be a long line to wait, especially during the peak season. I don’t mind the wait, but we saw a few folks get out of line because they were so annoyed. Coffee is a reasonable price, the breakfast sandwiches are pretty overpriced, though. $12 for a breakfast sandwich is wild. We particularly appreciated the discounted baked goods (50% off of baked goods from the day prior).
Mr W — Google review
My wife and I LOVED this place during our first visit to Saugatuck. Definitely a highlight of the trip and one of our favorite coffee shops we've ever been to. The drinks were all spot on, the service was super friendly (even at the crack of dawn), the baked goods and Sandwhiches were fresh and amazing. The branding on their coffee bags is sick. Gladly brought a few home for family to enjoy. Thanks to their team for making our trip so great. There was a particular staff member who also works at the book store - shoutout to them for being stellar at their job. Can't wait to go back!

Traveling in Michigan and staying at the Fern Valley Cottage near Saugatuck. Out Airbnb host recommended a trip to Saugatuck. We actually spent a few days getting to know the little town on the Kalamazoo River. We just had to stop at the very inviting Uncommon Coffee Roasters. Very friendly service with coffee, desserts and sandwich options. We just loved their Capuchino and their friendly service. If you want a great cup of coffee and are in Saugatuck stop at the Uncommon Coffee Roasters.

Bar & grill
American restaurant
Located in Saugatuck, Phil's Bar & Grille is a dynamic eatery with a long wood bar and a small, diverse beer list. It's known for its friendly sports pub atmosphere where regulars get rowdy during games and trivia contests. The menu goes beyond typical pub fare, offering creative dishes like adobo-rubbed ahi tuna and potato-encrusted walleye.
I finally gave Phil’s a try after vacillating for a while, but I’m glad I did. Service was good, and the place has a nice atmosphere. I ordered the muffuletta sandwich and found it to be very good. The olives and deli meats make for a very savory and slightly spicy sandwich, and the potato wedges were also cooked just right. They had some nice beers on tap, too, so that was a plus. I’m glad to have finally given Phil’s a try, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to smaller groups.

The ladies did a good job serving us. We really like the chicken wings appetizer. It’s messy, but tasty, and they gave us wet napkins so we can clean our hands. 🙌 The space is small, so there was a wait, but it’s got some charm. We do want to come back to try other entrees. 😊
Njac — Google review
This place was crowded the two nights we stayed and wanted to see if it was worth the hype. It totally was. The salmon and the crispy chicken sandwiches were both 5/5. They have crayons so you can color all over the table (even as an adult!) and the staff are so friendly. Would definitely be back and recommend this place to anyone staying in the area looking for delicious food.
Rebecca K — Google review
We were eating in a breakfast place in Holland and the owner told us this is the only place they would eat at in the area. Turned out this is definitely one of the best place in the area! We needed to wait for an hour or so for our table because it was busy on a Saturday at 7 PM. We didn’t mind it and the owner was super nice to us. Food was great and waitress was nice! Definitely need to get the ribs. I love my walleye. The only downside is maybe the veggies need more seasoning or salt. Otherwise it would be perfect. However I would still give this place a 5 stars because I felt welcome in here and people seemed to enjoy this place. It’s a happy place with a good vibe!

Phil’s came highly recommended, And I’m so glad that we went there to celebrate my husband‘s birthday! We started with the sea scallop appetizer, which was wonderful, along with a couple of generous cocktails! For dinner, I had the lake perch, and he had the special, which was 2 bone-in pork chops with Butternut squash. He said it was the tenderest pork chops he ever had (and he just turned 70, so…🤣). We shared a vanilla gelato, ice cream sandwich, with which they topped with a birthday candle. The service and atmosphere were just perfect! This is another place. We will definitely go back to when we visit that area! Thank you For helping to make my husband’s birthday so special.

I showed up here during Pride. They were packed and I waited a little over an hour for a table. If you're reading this while waiting/before you go, I urge you to be patient. You will not be disappointed! The staff are both friendly and accomodating. The kitchen is as quick as they are masterful at preparing the food. I hope to return before I have to resort to eating their blackened burger in my dreams. Thank you, Phil's! Peep the bonus animal crackers!

Great food. The tuna poke appetizer was very good, as well as the filet mignon for the entree. Always consistent food and they have great cocktails and a very nice wine selection.

Our favorite dinner spot in Saugatuck. The salmon & wings are absolutely stellar and the atmosphere is like an inside secret everyone is happy to share. Local art on the walls; boisterous, convivial energy; low light & lively jazz; the perfect balance between relaxation and quality. Come here and feel like you've always been at home in this place. What's not to love?

Restaurant
Located in downtown Saugatuck, Coast 236 Restaurant & Bar offers a modern dining experience with stunning views of Lake Michigan. The restaurant features a diverse menu showcasing fresh seafood, creative small plates, and artisanal cocktails. Whether you're enjoying their sushi rolls, grilled fish, or handcrafted cocktails at the bar, Coast 236 promises a memorable dining experience complemented by breathtaking lakefront scenery.
We tried this place to experience a variety of items at one sitting. They have 6 or 9 course tasting options and each has slightly different menu options. They also have à la cart, where you can order a single item for a meal. Being the first time we were there, the tasting courses seemed like a good way to go, so we could experience a wider range of options. It is on the pricey side for an every day meal, but I will say that the food was very well prepared, presented and filled with delicious combinations of flavors. I will say that you should ask about things being raw as they have a lot of dishes that are. So if you are not into raw, they are very easy to work with to get the right thing in front of you. The service was excellent and our waiter was AMAZING! He was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. His attention and patience with us while we determined what we wanted was very much appreciated. The other staff and chef were very accommodating and we appreciated every moment. The ambiance was nice, modern and clean. They have seating both inside and outside. We chose inside after attempting an outside seating but the wind and cold made us think otherwise. Place has a very relaxing atmosphere and the staff work hard to make you feel comfortable. It might not be an every night place to eat, but it's definitely worth it for special occasions.

Top notch dining experience from start to finish. We celebrated our 10th anniversary at Coast 236 and everything was perfect from start to finish. Patrick was our server and was knowledgeable, warm, and professional. The chef came to our table which was such a nice gesture. The atmosphere is just casual enough to not be uptight but still a high end feeling and the food is PHENOMENAL! Don't hesitate to make a reservation here!

We ordered the 6 pair tasting menu. Portion size is so small, but food was memorable. We really enjoyed the halibut with the potatoes and risotto!
Alyssia H — Google review
Wow! After a fail in Chicago at a restaurant I won’t mention, Coast 236 truly reminded us of the beauty that exists when you put your heart into your work. The simple fact that they permit guests at the same table to do the tasting menu while some might choose not to is basically telling you right from the beginning that you are in a business that cares about your visit. Our server assured us that if we chose that route, the courses would be “timed as best as possible”(if ya know, ya know)….as we considered that as an option, we decided to do a family style meal. Group of 7 so we ordered everything on the menu, and per Patrick’s recommendation, two of some. I considered going through the dishes but I simply can’t …all bangers!! That being said….the foie w/ plum was crazy good and the scallops came straight from Heaven. The dessert list covers all bases…the obligatory chocolate, the savory, and the sweet. Well done 236! Thank you Chef, Patrick, FOH, and BOH….that was EXCEPTIONAL!!

Absolutely fantastic, improbable fine dining establishment you would expect in NYC or Chicago, but all the more unique to find it in quaint, idyllic Saugatuck. We had the 9 course tasting menu and every dish was outstanding. The staff were amazing and the chef came out to greet us during our meal. We will certainly be back!
Houston F — Google review
We recently dined at Coast 236 and left extremely disappointed. We spent over $150 per person, yet still had to get a second dinner elsewhere afterward just to feel full. The manager was extremely rude and unhelpful throughout the experience. At no point were we informed that the tasting menu portions would be drastically smaller than regular entrées—something that should have been explained upfront as standard procedure. When we raised our concerns at the end of the meal, the way the situation was handled felt more like negotiating at a used car dealership than dining at a fine restaurant. They went back and forth with us and ultimately offered only 20% off select items—not even the full bill. Even after the so-called “discount,” we still spent over $600 and left hungry. The only positive was our server, who was very kind but unfortunately caught in the middle of a poorly managed establishment. We ended up tipping him out of pity because it was clear the issues came from management, not him. Overall, a very disappointing and overpriced experience. SCAM!

We had the most delicious anniversary dinner. We decided to go ala carte instead of choosing the tasting menu. We both had the Ciopinno and it was amazing. Evan, our server was delightful! 10 out of 10 recommended Catch 236!

We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Coast 236 and had the greatest experience. From the food to the drinks, the staff and the atmosphere, everything was absolute perfection. Our guests had nothing but amazing things to say about the appetizers, entrees and desserts. The bartenders and servers were so friendly, accommodating, helpful and knowledgeable. The owner Rick was so easy to work with and he runs a truly beautiful restaurant. I cannot say enough wonderful things about our experience. Truly a night I will never forget! Southern restaurant (US)
American restaurant
The Southerner is a laid-back lakeside restaurant that offers Southern-style dishes and cocktails in a comfortable setting. It's a popular spot for travelers looking to unwind by the water and enjoy some delicious food. The venue is known for its relaxed atmosphere and tasty cuisine, making it a must-visit for those seeking an authentic Southern dining experience. With its scenic location and delectable menu, The Southerner provides the perfect setting for a leisurely afternoon or evening out.
This gem in Saugatuck (along the River) is worth the stop and wait! Indoor capacity is under 100 people but they do also have outdoor seating. Atmosphere has an old southern home feel and the menu options are classic southern staples. Party tried the fried catfish platter and the chicken tenders. Everything was awesome (slightly disappointed in only 1 fish filet tho). Otherwise all components were so good (spicy coleslaw, crispy fries, and the remoulade is the Best!!!) Definitely want to go back to try more. Coke products served; which is always a plus for us!
K N — Google review
The food was good, as always, but the experience was a disappointment. There was no Southern hospitality—policies seemed to matter more than customers. We placed a large order, spending over $200 at the outside window, planning to enjoy it on the front patio. After paying, the manager told us that due to their “policy,” we couldn’t order what we had already purchased as takeout. She adjusted our order to fit their rules, which left us with less food—then asked us to pay about 20% more on top of it. What a sad policy. To make matters worse, they seemed to realize it was wrong, because they brought out what appeared to be day-old desserts as a consolation. Sorry for the long review, but customers should come first. In this case, their priorities were backwards, and it showed.

The Southerner is hands down my favorite spot for chicken! They make their own Nashville hot sauce (you can pick from mild to extreme), and it’s absolutely incredible. The weekends do get busy, but they make the wait easy with a walk-up bar and plenty of seating while you wait. The location is perfect, right on the Kalamazoo River—making it the ideal place to spend summer days. Parking can get tight when it’s busy, so plan ahead. Prices are on the higher side, especially for drinks, but the food and atmosphere make it well worth it. If you want to treat yourself or your loved ones, The Southerner is the place to go!

Looked like a dive in the outside but was cute on the inside with a view of water. I had the catfish poor boy with fries. My sandwich was good but my fries were so salty that they were burning my mouth. I was not able to eat them. My guy had the debris poor boy. He said, “it was ok. It wasn’t fantastic.” He loved the his fries because they were crispy the way he likes them. His appeared to have been salted less.

We are from the Metro Detroit area, but every time we head out west, we we make a special trip to The Southerner; this is our 4 or 5th visit because their food and drinks are amazing. Service is always good and the restaurant is beautiful and sits off of a little piece of water. It’s a small dining area, but they’ve recently opened up the deck and patio spaces where you can wait and have a drink beforehand. There’s a waitlist that you can get on because you cannot make reservations beforehand, but it never seems to be an excessively long way anytime we go. We were greeted and seated right away in the secondary dining room where we ordered drinks and app for the table. We got 2 orders of the appetizer fritters and the family meal for 6 (Catfish; fried chicken in mild hot sauce and original; Mac n cheese, collard greens; biscuits with honey butter, and lastly, an order of french fries.) we also received coleslaw. Everyone enjoyed the food so much but the standouts were the catfish and crab fritters with that spicy remoulade sauce, spicy dipped chicken, and the mac & cheese. The greens don’t have any meat in them, they instead use miso to give you a little bit of depth to it. They just needed a little bit more spice so we added the hot sauce dip and it was incredible. The biscuits are the flakiest most beautifully baked things I have ever tasted. They’re so amazing with that honey butter. They used to serve a succotash with black eyes peas that was out of this world. It’s no longer on the menu, but it’s something that kept us coming back here after year. Hopefully it makes a return. Drinks were perfect too - well mixed; my husband likes a booze forward cocktail and these did not disappoint. Leftovers were plenty and they reheated well. Still moist after a trip home and back in oven.

This has been a hard one to write about, especially since being local to this amazing place, we finally had a day of to go. We were there around noon (they open at 11) and our orders were taken around 12:30. We were seated outside, which was really nice and everyone around us was complimenting their food. It encouraged us that we made the right decision coming out for lunch. We had even studied the menu that morning because we don't like being indecisive. My husband had the Fried Catfish Platter and I had the deviled crab and Langostino Poor Boy. We noticed that the menu did not list anything that was a side salad so we decided to share with the Little Gem Salad which are server assured us could feed 2 people. After watching several couples come and go, we realized that we had no food in front of us and checked the time, it was 1:20 pm. We had been waiting nearly 50 minutes for our food and I had hoped that maybe they would bring the salad out beforehand. There was even one point where 1 of the fake fingernails from the waitress fell off onto the table. When the food finally came out, we were happy to see it but we were soon let down. The salad was incredibly bland and flavorless but we ate it because we were hungry. My husband did like his catfish dinner but when he realized he only got one piece for the price, he was very surprised. For what you pay, you really need to have 2 or 3 pieces and they don't have to be gigantic. His cole slaw was also very strongly seasoned. My crab/lobster poor boy was okay. The meat was served cold on the bun with a relish and lettuce, which is too much green on one sandwich. The bun was great and yeah, it was a very spicy roll, at least to me. Maybe we should have spoken up. Maybe we should have said more but I didn't know what direction to go because it was our first time eating there. We not sure if we'll go back anytime soon but I want you to judge for yourself. Good luck.

Oh my goodness, I got my southern on at this place. The shrimp and grits were fantastic! I had greens and the jalapeno corn salad as my sides and they were huge. There is a lower rating on atmosphere just because it was incredibly noisy. BUT, it's in a dive that reminded me of restaurants I used to go to when I lived in Texas and Louisiana. The only menu option that was missing was fried okra, oh that and cornbread. They brag up their biscuits however 😉

Wicks Park Bar & Grille is a vibrant and casual bar and grill located on Water Street near the Kalamazoo River. This neighborhood restaurant offers a diverse menu of American cuisine with local flavors, including dishes like fried lake perch, Western burger made with Angus beef, and tempting desserts such as key lime pie and chocolate brownie. Best restaurant in Saugatuck! Not on the water, but a good view of the water if you sit outside (along with good people watching). Food is quality and delicious. And staff are super friendly and helpful. Grilled chicken sandwich was tasty and not dry. Pasta was delicious. And sweet potato fries were outstanding. We'll definitely be back.

Wicks Park Bar and Grill has a fun, relaxed atmosphere and is a great spot to hang out for a casual meal. Our waitress, Noel, was absolutely awesome—friendly, attentive, and on top of everything. She really made the experience enjoyable. The seating was surprisingly comfy, which made it easy to kick back and stay a while. As for the food, it was decent—nothing bad, but nothing particularly memorable either. Solid bar fare with a few bright spots, but it didn’t quite knock our socks off. Still, the service and vibe more than made up for it. Great place for drinks with friends or a laid-back lunch. We’d definitely come back, especially if Noel’s working again! 4 stars for great service and comfort.

Came to the restaurant with an appetite, was disappointed with my sandwich, I ordered a french dip the meat was unfortunately unseasoned but worse the dip was missing seasoning. I don’t think it had any salt :( my girlfriend had fish tacos and they where great! Good service for how busy it was.

We visited early ish on a Friday, and they had the outdoor seating we wanted. I believe Morgan was our server, and she was very attentive, and answered our questions. Our food came out pretty quickly, and though I was a bit overwhelmed at the size of my dish, it was all very well prepared. Flaky fish, and plump shrimp. Definitely handy to where we were staying, and the water. We enjoyed ourselves!

Me and my boyfriend went here for dinner. The food was so good! We got the buffalo chicken egg rolls and burgers. My bf said it was the best burger he ever had! The owner was also such a great guy! He was very personable and funny and definitely made it a more enjoyable experience than it already was.

Service was slow. Atmosphere is nice. Food looks like it will be good but really is ok at best. Kids Mac and cheese was dry microwaved Kraft? With shredded cheese on top. Hot chicken sandwich was terrible. Tuna melt was bland. I will not be returning.

Great place and great atmosphere, friendly staff! We dine in on 5 July 2024 as we wanted to see the fireworks. Recommended mom and brother to come here due to the first 2 visit that we had our lunch at here was great! We understood that night was busy and crowded. We put in reservation and waited for about 30 minutes to get a table. Ordered our food and waited for another 40 minutes to arrive. To our disappointment, the hamburger that we ordered were much smaller although the waitress ensured that it was the same size. Half pounder felt like quarter pounder. If you refer to the last 4 pictures from our past visit. We gonna try another time and see what happens, we don't want to give up yet.

I ordered the mac and cheese with the crispy chicken strip on top. Expensive but very very delicious. The wife ordered the French dip sandwich minus the cheese. The meat was very flavorful and still moist. Even though it was shaved. The OSU was tasty. The bread was crispy and yet still soft. We also got a pizza to go. Cheese only looks delicious. Smells delicious. They use just mozzarella which is perfect. Housemaid sauce. I got a chocolate martini little heavy on the vodka but tasted great. The wife got Trainwreck which has a house made rum punch in it. She loved it. Overall, this place is expensive in comparison to typical restaurants outside of the tourist area. But very typical pricing for this area which is a more touristy area. We spent about $90 with another $20 for tip. So about $110 bill for two meals, two drinks and a pizza to go.

The Butler is a historic restaurant in Saugatuck, offering American cuisine and fresh seafood with a view of the harbor. Established in 1961, it has become a landmark in downtown Saugatuck, providing an intimate and romantic dining experience. The cozy environment and waterfront views make it an ideal spot for a date night or special occasion. Guests can enjoy their meals indoors or on the outdoor deck while taking in the scenic surroundings.
The outdoor seating of the restaurant is a treat. You get a nice view of the lake and some of the cool boats and yachts. The food tastes great as well and even better when paired with the scenery. The pretzel bites appetizers were warm and soft and served with cheese and honey mustard. The fish and chips were nice and hot out of the fryer as well. The pretzel burger was gigantic in size and very tasty and paired with some truffle french fries. I would visit this place whenever I visited saugatuck because of the nice views of the outdoor seating and great food to enjoy it with.

We sat at the 2-story outside seating venue and it was awesome. The views are great no matter where you sit. We were on the 2nd story. Walleye was really fishy, had walleye the next day at a different restaurant and it was much better.

We came for lunch on a weekday and sat in the lower outdoor area. Our food was very good, our server was helpful and friendly, and looking out at boats on a sunny day was sublime. Prices are competitive given the location and type of restaurant. Only two downsides, music had us having to repeat ourselves quite a bit because of the volume. And while appetizers came quickly, our meals took over half an hour.

Great location tucked away right on the marina. We sat on the patio as it was a beautiful day. I had the "Famous Butler Burger" with housemade kettle chips, also comes with a pickle. The housemade kettle chips are one of the best that I've ever had at a restaurant, I also had a taste of the fries, which were great as well. The burger was delicious, and I really enjoyed the black forest ham on it. Everything was cooked to perfection, absolutely would return!

My partner and I came to this place over the weekend, while visiting the area and after reading many raving reviews. If the party is not large, you cannot make reservations on Open Table. Since we were a small party of two, we walked in and gave them our name. They put us in the system, said the wait would be an hour to an hour and thirty minutes. I was mind blown by the hostess time estimate because they called us within an hour and seven minutes. The place reminds me of Krusty Krab in SpongeBob, it’s wooden paneling and dark décor. The service was okay, I wish our waiter would have been a tiny bit more attentive. You cannot tell me you’re that busy to have runners deliver the food and to check up on the table every so often (before @ me, he was not that busy and the place was not that busy). As for Appetizer, we had crab stuffed mushrooms, they were watery with a great amount of cheese on top. I would have opted-in for a breadcrumb top rather than cheese. My partner has to finish the App. For Entrée, I had the Horseradish Peppercorn Burger, it was very flavorful and cooked as recommended – medium. The side, sweet potatoes, were so stale and overcooked, it seemed like they were out all day and the cooks refried them. (again, do not @ me, I worked at Arby’s back in my prime, so I know a stale, overcooked, recooked fry). My partner had the Southwestern Salad with grilled “over seasoned” chicken and missing black beans with a grand amount of red onion. Overall, no, I did not like this place and would not recommend this place to anyone visiting the area. I wish the company all the best in their success.

Both my wife and I had the turkey bacon club sandwich which was served on flatbread with kettle chips. It was delicious! It was a large sandwich and we each ended up taking half home. The flatbread was soft and tasty, which helped make the sandwich even better. Nice view of the river also.

I was really excited to eat and get drinks here because of the view. The view is phenomenal but I was really dissatisfied with the quality of the food. We ordered the crab stuffed mushroom caps which were served in a hot pan on a plate. The cheese was melted and stuck to the pan so we had a hard time scraping it off the bottom. The grease from the cheese was super thick and drowned the entire dish. For drinks we ordered the watermelon margarita which was $15. It tasted very watered down and like cheap watermelon flavoring. For $15 I was very disappointed and wish I had given my business elsewhere. We ordered the blood orange IPA beer which tasted amazing but it was served in a tiny plastic wine cup. Being charged $12 for a small plastic cup of beer was ridiculous. 2 drinks and a tiny appetizer should not cost $50 out the door. The only thing that impressed me and my partner (executive chef) on the menu was the raspberry goat cheese pizza which was unique. The service was nice and we were served our drinks quickly with our food.

My friend and I sat at the bar and Becca took amazing care of us. She made us our drinks, both were tasty. Hands down some of the best and most friendly service. We were extremely happy with our food. We started out with the street corn bruschetta . Let me tell you the flavors were amazing. The candied jalapeños with pickled red onions were the chefs kiss! We each ordered a different pizza, her the brisket ;which she enjoyed. I ordered the raspberry goat. Mine was the perfect amount of sweet and savory, simply delicious. We both got Cesar salads the half portion which was a good portion. We ordered desserts as well . We tried the peach cobbler cheesecake and flourless chocolate torte, both were fantastic! I will definitely come back . Just everything the music and vibes as well as the service surpassed all my expectations!
