Cathedral
Sights & Landmarks
Tampere Cathedral, also known as the church of St. John, is a striking example of National Romantic art-nouveau architecture. Completed in 1907, this imposing granite-built church features three steeples and red-tiled roofs that contrast with its subtle stone facade, exuding understated elegance. Inside, visitors can admire controversial frescoes and stained glass created by Hugo Simberg, depicting naked childlike apostles and dreamlike scenes.
The colours of the glass with the open plan architecture makes this a welcoming and deep place of reflection. Highly recommend you come here..
Steven W — Google review
Truly one of the most amazing churches I have seen both outside and inside. From the outside it looks like a medieval castle, and from the inside it is a true work of art. It houses one of the most famous paintings in Finland, the Fallen Angel, as well as another striking one with a skull. The interior has many unusual elements that make you curious to learn more about its history and culture. We entered just after a wedding, and within five minutes we could go in without any problem. Everything was spotless. You can also walk up from one of the sides and admire the church from that angle, and it is completely free. We were lucky to hear someone playing the piano during our visit, which made the atmosphere even more special. A must-see in Tampere, and perhaps even in all of Finland.

After a long, exhausting week of exams, visiting Tampere Cathedral on 15.12 felt like a breath of peace. The quiet beauty, soft light, and calming atmosphere wrapped around us the moment we walked in. It was exactly the gentle pause our tired minds needed—a place that reminded us to breathe, slow down, and feel grounded again.

Magnificent! So pretty! The entrance way is so magical! We weren't inside the building due to wedding ceremony but I would like to visit some other time!

Tampere Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko) • Location: Tuomiokirkonkatu 3b, Tampere • Built: 1902–1907 • Style: National Romantic (Finnish early 20th-century style) • Famous for: • Frescoes by Hugo Simberg like The Wounded Angel and The Garden of Death • Altar painting by Magnus Enckell • Visiting: Free entry; open daily (hours depend on season) • Function: Lutheran cathedral, holds regular services and events

One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have been to. The exterior is built from stone. There are 2000 seats inside. Astonishing design.

Beautiful Cathedral with amazing architecture.

I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful cathedral whilst visiting for one of Tarja's Christmas shows. Finland has beautiful architecture throughout its country. Tarja's show made this environment even more surreal.

Warm atmosphere that feels both historic and authentic. You can find everything from fresh bread and pastries that smell divine to high-quality meats and cheeses. And the local produce? It’s fresh, vibrant, and full of flavor. if you’re ever in Tampere, this market hall is a must-visit. It’s more than just a place to shop it's a real slice of Finnish life. Highly recommended! Free parking (1h) is available in Sokos.

This restaurant means meatball restaurant. I ate lunch there It was very reasonable and delicious. It was gluten free.
Jo L — Google review
Enter through the south entrance, take the left hallway all the way to the back. You’ll find a normal looking restaurant that looks very local. Ask for the black sausage, potatoes without the blue cheese(unless that’s your preference) and beet mayo salad. Sit down and have your mind blown. If I go to Tampere again, it will be because I want to eat exactly that, there.
Zakk E — Google review
Amazing, really cute and lot of food. A definite recommendation for every food lover!
Thomas K — Google review
Very quaint market hall with lots of history. It's almost 125 years old and they primarily sell food. There are multiple little restaurants, cafes, and shops selling produce and animal products, definitely check them all out. There are a few shops for other stuff but that's only 1 lane on the south east side. I really enjoyed strolling around the hall, it's very well preserved and just has a great atmosphere. This is a must visit when coming to Tampere, I will definitely return when I'm ever back in this city.

Specialty Museums
The Moomin Museum in Tampere is a delightful and unique destination that draws thousands of visitors annually. It is the only museum in the world dedicated to the beloved Moomin characters from Finnish children's books. The museum offers an immersive experience, retelling the entire story of the Moomins, from their adventures during the Great Flood to their mysterious encounters at the lighthouse.
Absolutely a MUST visit. An incredibly well crafted, constructed, creative museum that’s not only so very enjoyable for every Moomin fan but also for those (like me) who are not that familiar with the the characters, the books or the history. It was s sad joy to experience!!
Gordon M — Google review
We really enjoyed our time with my friends. Lots of fun and interesting stories. But our most favourite part is when we had the chance to create our own art with my friends. That was very fun!
Dill V — Google review
I went with my wife, and I loved seeing how happy she was while reliving her childhood through the memories she found in each of the different Moomin drawings, sculptures, and models. The museum is very beautiful and much larger than I expected. They don’t allow video recording, but you can take photos. Highly recommended for people who like Moomin, and for those who don’t as well. We made a video about Tampere in case you’d like to see it; it also includes some photos from the museum, but it’s mainly about the city. J&G Vlogs

We visited the Moomin Museum today, and it felt like stepping into a quiet, magical world just when we needed a soft moment. After all the stress and noise of daily life, walking through Tove Jansson’s illustrations and seeing the tiny details of the Moomin stories felt comforting and almost nostalgic. The atmosphere was calm, warm, and full of little wonders that made us slow down and smile. It was a gentle reminder that even small, peaceful places can make a day feel lighter.
Marilyn G — Google review
This was last minute plan for me, but I must say, it is the highlight of my trip. It is really place for all ages ,even when I was scared that it is maybe only for kids. Very interactive and I felt amazing there. I love the framed original sketches , also learned some things from the exposition descriptions...I will not spoil more. As artist myself , I will probably visit again when I'm in Finland. I recomend :)
Ivana C — Google review
It's took me 2 hours to look at every single artworks here. So amazing! Especially, I love this part "Always full of life, it is a place where everyone is free to be exactly who they are".
John P — Google review
We had a wonderful time! One of the highlights for me was the interactive art area, being able to create your own drawings made the experience even more special. It’s a space that truly welcomes the whole family. The life-size Moominhouse was absolutely fantastic and full of delightful details. If you're going at a steady pace, you can see the whole museum in about 45 minutes. Personally, I found the ticket price (around 15 euros) a bit on the high side for the overall length of the visit, but it's still a charming and magical experience, especially for Moomin fans.
Humberto D — Google review
The Moomin Museum is a beautifully curated tribute to Tove Jansson’s work. The original illustrations, detailed Moominhouse model, and atmospheric lighting really bring the stories to life. It’s engaging for adults and older kids, with creative workshops and a cozy reading corner. It’s a must-visit for any Moomin lover.

Head to the Pyynikki Observation Tower for stunning panoramic views of the Tampere skyline. Situated on the world's highest gravel ridge, this granite landmark dates back to the late 1920s and offers awe-inspiring vistas despite its modest height of just over 25 meters. The tower was reconstructed in 1929 after being destroyed in World War I, and a popular café at its base bakes legendary doughnuts. Visitors can also enjoy late-night strolls around the area.
This is the place with the best views over the city and the surrounding lakes/forests! Entrance is only 2 euros and you can either take the stairs or the elevator up. The tower is located within a Forested area so the walk towards the tower is also very nice. There is also a cafe on the ground floor which sells coffee snacks and their famous donuts. A must visit when coming to Tampere!
Julien W — Google review
Incredible place in the middle of the forest, yet close to the city! Admission to the tower is separate but nothing expensive, 2€. Donuts are amazing! And why not ? Place of Ice cream near too! 🍩 🍦♥️
Yanira C — Google review
This was a great way to view the city! You can take the stairs or ride the elevator. There are still a few steps you still have to climb even if you take the elevator but worth it. The views were amazing. Not too crowded and you can view all the way around. Grab a treat or a drink at the cafe after as a reward for climbing the stairs! Tickets were only 2€.
Kristy V — Google review
The views of the city of Tampere from the tower are phenomenal. It only costs 2 Euros to go up. Downstairs you can buy some delicious donuts and take them up to enjoy while admiring the scenery. A lovely place to visit as a couple or with family. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Tampere. In fact, in the photos I’m leaving a QR code in case you’d like to watch a video with other things you can see in the city. J&G Vlogs.

This was probably one of my favorite things to do in Tampere. Climbing the stairs and then getting that 360 view of the area was beyond beautiful. I really had a great time here. The cafe was great: a bit tiny for the crowd. The coffee was not good and the munkkis were very delish.
Enrique D — Google review
One of the stops during my day visit to Tampere. Easy to get to as there are stairs leading up to the coffee shop. You buy your ticket at the coffee shop. Can either take the elevator or stairs up. Once up top, you can also go up the steep stairs leading outside for a better view and better pictures. Taking pictures inside, you can see the reflection of the windows and yourself. Pretty tight inside, but luckily I and two other people were there. The coffee shop had assortment of donughts, coffee, tea, juices, soda and other small bites. Friendly service! Plenty of tables and benches out front.
Kevin K — Google review
Super great views in both the summer and winter! I always come here when I have family and friends visiting, the perfect place for tourists and locals. Gluten free, Lactose free and even vegan options for Munkki!
Erica ( — Google review
A rather low profile structure from outside but with really amazing views from the top. The donut while buying the entry ticket should not be missed - it is one of the tastiest I have ever eaten.

Särkänniemi is a fantastic amusement park that has truly evolved over the past couple of decades, making it a premier destination for visitors of all ages. Whether you're an adult or bringing along kids, there's something for everyone to enjoy. On quieter days, like Wednesdays in August when schools are back in session, you can experience minimal wait times for rides and attractions. While some rides may be temporarily closed—like the nostalgic ropeway—it doesn't detract from the overall fun.
Love it. Short waiting times and short walks

Särkänniemi has really developed over the last 10-20 years as an amusement park. Nowadays it is a world-class place with plenty of things to do, covering all ages from toddlers to adults. I was positively surprised that pricing is still very decent. They don't collect entry fees to the area (the rides cost, of course), and the food is good and reasonably priced.

(Translated by Google) A nice day in August, schools have already started so there was no rush to get to the rides. I haven't been to Särkänniemi in almost 20 years. It was a shame that the ropeway was closed, it would have been a nostalgic experience. I also missed a little something like a ghost train and a house of laughter for adults who can't stand such spinning rides.
Mirka P — Google review
(Translated by Google) A versatile amusement park, usually less crowded than Linnanmäki. Easy to get to, large parking area next door and good public transport. (Original) Monipuolinen huvipuisto, jossa useimmiten vähemmän ruuhkaa, kuin Linnanmäellä. Helppo saapua, laaja parkkialue vieressä ja julkiset kulkevat hyvin.

Ravinteli Bertha is a beloved restaurant located in the heart of Tampere, housed in a historic building. The restaurant has been consistently recognized as one of Finland's top 50 dining establishments. Guests can enjoy Scandinavian tasting menus, including vegetarian options, in an upscale setting.
Really nice restaurant with perfect service. Food was good, although I was expecting a bit more for the price. Cheese was delicious!

Wonderful place for dinner. 3 course menu with a few options for each, which shows the plates have been mastered to perfection. All produce of high quality and perfectly cooked, even when asking for multiple cooking points for a single steak! Wine and non-alcoholic beverages are also nice and match the food greatly.

Friendly staff, centrally located and interesting flavors. Two menu options, servings are rather small, very nice and intense flavors. Wines are a little expensive and time slots strict. Would recommend!
Ti L — Google review
Excellent dining. For once no weak spots at all, all courses really good. Fresh and eventhough painstakingly well prepared you can still taste the actual ingredients. Michelin-star quality. And the service: relaxed, friendly and knowledgeable.

Very good again. Seasonal as always. Excellent selection of wines from an award winning sommelier. Service is said to be laid back, which it absolutely is. Just make a reservation and let them take care of you, no need to think if you don’t want to.

Great service and super interesting menu that keeps delighting plate by plate. Playful dishes mixing sweet and sour and sweet ingredients. Great champagne and wine too.

Very kind, relaxed atmosphere with excellent customer service. Felt really welcomed and food tasted absolutely amazing. Probably the best restaurant in Tampere.
Tommi M — Google review
Relaxed, non-pretentious atmosphere, knowledgeable somelier and staff. Menu was € 75pp, and was excellent. Portions are pretty small, but suffice. We were made aware 3 times that our time slot (of 2.5 hours) was almost over - which was a bit annoying (I’m pretty strict on time myself and our bottle was empty, so these reminders were pretty superfluous). Explanations were in perfect English, which we appreciate, as we don’t speak a word of Finnish.

Steak house
Restaurant
Ravinteli Huber is a top-notch steak restaurant in Finland, offering some of the finest quality meat in the country. The focus here is on sharing and social dining in a Mediterranean style. While it's known for its steaks and meaty offerings, even vegetarian diners have been pleasantly surprised. The restaurant ages its own meat and excels in grilling techniques, resulting in tender, flavorful cuts that are grilled to perfection.
It's been a while since I had such a good steak. All their meats were excellent as well as all the appetizers and side dishes. This place is a must when I'm Tampere
Alberto C — Google review
Service probably a 6/5! Food just amazing, the best tartare I had. Everything else was great as well. Cozy atmosphere, great drinks and wine! Highly recommended… I don’t know what else to add. If you love meat, this is the place for you.
Nando A — Google review
Came here to celebrate my friend’s birthday. Dishes were good, but not worth the price. The bone marrow was tasteless… the filet mignon was good, the aged entrecôte was ‘ok’….. all steaks were supposed to be medium minus but they were more rare… too rare for my taste. Bernaise sauce was ok, peppercorn sauce good but not enough, could have had more in the tiny serving dish….. It wasn’t a bad experience but I would Spend my 200€ elsewhere. Probs not a repeat customer.
Rebecca J — Google review
Came here for a date night with my partner 🤗 It was a great choice, we decided to share a meet plate consistenting of horse, entrecôte, and beef tenderloin with sides of fries and horseradish potato's. It was nice, simple and very delicious 🤌 If you are sensitive to lights in places, I will give a small warning as the overhead lights tended to change brightness throughout the evening. Didn't bother us but it might bother some. We were sat upstairs for reference.
Frank P — Google review
This is one of the best steakhouses in Finland although it is quite young and bustling. The place age its own meat and offers amazing cuts in the best grilling technics. We ordered 3 different types of meat, 3 starters and all possible side dishes. The meat and the starters are the crown jewels. It had premium quality and great grilling. The side dishes and the sauces (and we ordered all of them) were so so. The only one worth mentioning was the cauliflower which has amazing peanut sauce. Visited again - try the cabbage side dish, it's amazing!
Yossi T — Google review
Wow, if you like meat you need to try this place. We had good service, with recomendations of meat, side’s , wine so we had a great night

The food here was definitely very high level and also the service was quite good and fast it was not perfect they forgot to bring us water several times and also napkins, but it was not critical and they also helped us with the choice of dishes and portions. They really know what they are doing, that the cooks work. It is just very fast and all the dishes are incredibly tasty. Honestly it was probably one of the best meats I have eaten. The bill for two came to about 100 euros. In my opinion, this is a normal amount for such an establishment, which is also located in the city center.

Staff really nice, food tasty. Only problem is that the staff speaks only English, and they have a section in the payments for tips for the waitresses. In Finland, you do not need to tip to anyone, and they are pushing this tip culture here, what is a disgusting thing. Food is expensive, but that what you get when eating at fine dining.

Fine dining restaurant
Restaurant
Ravintola Apaja is a charming off-the-beaten-track restaurant nestled in the courtyard of an apartment building, sheltered by the walls of an old railway building. The cozy and non-conventional space offers a fixed menu that changes with the seasons, eliminating the need to make choices. The food is described as excellent, local, fresh, and delicious. Guests have praised the great wine recommendations and passionate personnel.
The best fine-dining in Tampere. We had a great 5 course vegan menu that we had requested in advance. Booking is necessary as the place is very small and could get crowded.
Joonas V — Google review
Excellent fresh Finnish herbs, plants, and fish throughout the menu. Wine pairing was a bit so-so to my taste, but charming setup and excellent service made up for it
Heikki K — Google review
Absolutely fantastic experience! Partner had vegan menu, which got agreed on late, but master chef pulled the best food my partner had eaten. All this with late notice! Local, simple products as fine dining. Mahtava!
Veli-Pekka A — Google review
The food was good and the ingredients were of high quality and locally sourced. The waiter was friendly and there is no criticism of his work. The waiting time between meals was far too long and the "flow" of the menu suffered badly. The entire meal took almost 3.5 hours for two people. In addition, the portions are very small, so if you come to the restaurant hungry, it means you will be hungry the entire time. After two hours started to hope that this would be over soon. In addition, the room echoes so badly that it was difficult to hear conversation.

Lovely off-the-beaten-track restaurant: one fixed menu, that changes regularly with the seasons, that you can combine with accompanying wines - so you don’t have to make any choices yourself :-). It’s a pretty small and non-conventional (charming) space, but everything works. Food was excellent, and so was the service.

Last saturday we had a little celebration and dined at Apaja. It was my second time at this place, and it surely won't be my last. The experience at this restaurant is all-encompassing. From the cosy décor, to the professionalism of the staff and last (but certainly not least!) the exceptional food, everything leaves a lasting impression of having had a very special evening. The ever so kind waiters presented us with revolutionary fusions of ingredients that, on paper, should not even cross paths in the kitchen. But somehow, to the palate it all makes perfect sense. Each bite reveals an explosion of flavours that to describe as exquisite may be an understatement. The superb combination of sweet, sour, and everything in between shakes the taste buds back to life. And as for the 'noisy' ambience that some have commented on, I honestly didn't even notice! Coming from Italy and living in Spain, the so-called 'noise' here is actually very moderate. After all, restaurants are places where people also go to spend some time together... Apaja is a statement, a break free from all food conventions and a journey into uncharted territories. It is a treasure that must be discovered, cherished, and never spoiled. Thank you for yet another memorable evening!

Located in the Ratinan shopping center, Ravintola Periscope offers impressive views over the city and Lake Pyhajarvi. The restaurant, which opened in 2018, is a newer landmark in Tampere situated at the top of the Ratinan shopping center. Its unique setting allows guests to enjoy breathtaking vistas from the vast open rooftop terrace on the seventh floor as well as from inside on the sixth floor.
Awesome restaurant with one of the best views in town. You can see Tammerkoski, the town, the Southern harbor, Nokia Arena and the Ratina Stadium. There is also a rooftop terrace, which is probably a good place to view a concert or game on Ratina Stadium. Very friendly service and delicious food.

Nice Terrace Bar, but a bit overrated. There were no heaters and in September it is a bit too cold. The bar tender struggled to make whiskey sour... I hope during summer time it looks better
