Evangelical church
Tampere Cathedral, also known as the church of St. John, is a striking example of National Romantic art-nouveau architecture. Completed in 1907, this imposing granite-built church features three steeples and red-tiled roofs that contrast with its subtle stone facade, exuding understated elegance. Inside, visitors can admire controversial frescoes and stained glass created by Hugo Simberg, depicting naked childlike apostles and dreamlike scenes.
The colours of the glass with the open plan architecture makes this a welcoming and deep place of reflection. Highly recommend you come here..
Steven W — Google review
Truly one of the most amazing churches I have seen both outside and inside. From the outside it looks like a medieval castle, and from the inside it is a true work of art. It houses one of the most famous paintings in Finland, the Fallen Angel, as well as another striking one with a skull. The interior has many unusual elements that make you curious to learn more about its history and culture. We entered just after a wedding, and within five minutes we could go in without any problem. Everything was spotless. You can also walk up from one of the sides and admire the church from that angle, and it is completely free. We were lucky to hear someone playing the piano during our visit, which made the atmosphere even more special. A must-see in Tampere, and perhaps even in all of Finland.

Magnificent! So pretty! The entrance way is so magical! We weren't inside the building due to wedding ceremony but I would like to visit some other time!

Tampere Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko) • Location: Tuomiokirkonkatu 3b, Tampere • Built: 1902–1907 • Style: National Romantic (Finnish early 20th-century style) • Famous for: • Frescoes by Hugo Simberg like The Wounded Angel and The Garden of Death • Altar painting by Magnus Enckell • Visiting: Free entry; open daily (hours depend on season) • Function: Lutheran cathedral, holds regular services and events
Chamika H — Google review
One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have been to. The exterior is built from stone. There are 2000 seats inside. Astonishing design.

Beautiful Cathedral with amazing architecture.

I had the opportunity to visit this beautiful cathedral whilst visiting for one of Tarja's Christmas shows. Finland has beautiful architecture throughout its country. Tarja's show made this environment even more surreal.
Jessica C — Google review
Quite special! Untypical architecture (I think it can be very nice and cozy inside there when in winter). I was at 16.30 o clock there on a July day and was for half an hour-all alone. There was no admission fee.

Head to the Pyynikki Observation Tower for stunning panoramic views of the Tampere skyline. Situated on the world's highest gravel ridge, this granite landmark dates back to the late 1920s and offers awe-inspiring vistas despite its modest height of just over 25 meters. The tower was reconstructed in 1929 after being destroyed in World War I, and a popular café at its base bakes legendary doughnuts. Visitors can also enjoy late-night strolls around the area.
This is the place with the best views over the city and the surrounding lakes/forests! Entrance is only 2 euros and you can either take the stairs or the elevator up. The tower is located within a Forested area so the walk towards the tower is also very nice. There is also a cafe on the ground floor which sells coffee snacks and their famous donuts. A must visit when coming to Tampere!
Julien W — Google review
Incredible place in the middle of the forest, yet close to the city! Admission to the tower is separate but nothing expensive, 2€. Donuts are amazing! And why not ? Place of Ice cream near too! 🍩 🍦♥️
Yanira C — Google review
This was a great way to view the city! You can take the stairs or ride the elevator. There are still a few steps you still have to climb even if you take the elevator but worth it. The views were amazing. Not too crowded and you can view all the way around. Grab a treat or a drink at the cafe after as a reward for climbing the stairs! Tickets were only 2€.
Kristy V — Google review
The views of the city of Tampere from the tower are phenomenal. It only costs 2 Euros to go up. Downstairs you can buy some delicious donuts and take them up to enjoy while admiring the scenery. A lovely place to visit as a couple or with family. Highly recommended if you’re visiting Tampere. In fact, in the photos I’m leaving a QR code in case you’d like to watch a video with other things you can see in the city. J&G Vlogs.
Gerardo V — Google review
This was probably one of my favorite things to do in Tampere. Climbing the stairs and then getting that 360 view of the area was beyond beautiful. I really had a great time here. The cafe was great: a bit tiny for the crowd. The coffee was not good and the munkkis were very delish.
Enrique D — Google review
One of the stops during my day visit to Tampere. Easy to get to as there are stairs leading up to the coffee shop. You buy your ticket at the coffee shop. Can either take the elevator or stairs up. Once up top, you can also go up the steep stairs leading outside for a better view and better pictures. Taking pictures inside, you can see the reflection of the windows and yourself. Pretty tight inside, but luckily I and two other people were there. The coffee shop had assortment of donughts, coffee, tea, juices, soda and other small bites. Friendly service! Plenty of tables and benches out front.
Kevin K — Google review
Super great views in both the summer and winter! I always come here when I have family and friends visiting, the perfect place for tourists and locals. Gluten free, Lactose free and even vegan options for Munkki!
Erica ( — Google review
A rather low profile structure from outside but with really amazing views from the top. The donut while buying the entry ticket should not be missed - it is one of the tastiest I have ever eaten.

The Moomin Museum in Tampere is a delightful and unique destination that draws thousands of visitors annually. It is the only museum in the world dedicated to the beloved Moomin characters from Finnish children's books. The museum offers an immersive experience, retelling the entire story of the Moomins, from their adventures during the Great Flood to their mysterious encounters at the lighthouse.
Absolutely a MUST visit. An incredibly well crafted, constructed, creative museum that’s not only so very enjoyable for every Moomin fan but also for those (like me) who are not that familiar with the the characters, the books or the history. It was s sad joy to experience!!
Gordon M — Google review
We really enjoyed our time with my friends. Lots of fun and interesting stories. But our most favourite part is when we had the chance to create our own art with my friends. That was very fun!
Dill V — Google review
I went with my wife, and I loved seeing how happy she was while reliving her childhood through the memories she found in each of the different Moomin drawings, sculptures, and models. The museum is very beautiful and much larger than I expected. They don’t allow video recording, but you can take photos. Highly recommended for people who like Moomin, and for those who don’t as well. We made a video about Tampere in case you’d like to see it; it also includes some photos from the museum, but it’s mainly about the city. J&G Vlogs

This was last minute plan for me, but I must say, it is the highlight of my trip. It is really place for all ages ,even when I was scared that it is maybe only for kids. Very interactive and I felt amazing there. I love the framed original sketches , also learned some things from the exposition descriptions...I will not spoil more. As artist myself , I will probably visit again when I'm in Finland. I recomend :)
Ivana C — Google review
It's a great place to bring your kids. Moomin is close to heart so no complaint about the concept. But they are charging a lot for everything.
G M — Google review
Absolutely no idea how to get into the Moomin Museum. No signs, no directions. We walked around the whole building and finally went to the Tampere Talo's filmharmonic entry door to ask from the staff how to get to the Moomin Museum. We heard that you can get here, but there are no signs outside. The museum itself is absolutely amazing and worth a visit!
Rose — Google review
It's took me 2 hours to look at every single artworks here. So amazing! Especially, I love this part "Always full of life, it is a place where everyone is free to be exactly who they are".
John P — Google review
We had a wonderful time! One of the highlights for me was the interactive art area, being able to create your own drawings made the experience even more special. It’s a space that truly welcomes the whole family. The life-size Moominhouse was absolutely fantastic and full of delightful details. If you're going at a steady pace, you can see the whole museum in about 45 minutes. Personally, I found the ticket price (around 15 euros) a bit on the high side for the overall length of the visit, but it's still a charming and magical experience, especially for Moomin fans.

Enter through the south entrance, take the left hallway all the way to the back. You’ll find a normal looking restaurant that looks very local. Ask for the black sausage, potatoes without the blue cheese(unless that’s your preference) and beet mayo salad. Sit down and have your mind blown. If I go to Tampere again, it will be because I want to eat exactly that, there.

Nestled in the vibrant city of Tampere, Finland, the Lenin Museum stands as a remarkable testament to history. This unique museum is not only dedicated to Vladimir Lenin but also marks the historic site where he and Joseph Stalin held their secret meeting in 1905—an event that played a pivotal role in shaping the Soviet Union.
I went to Tampere to visit the political history. You can go through the political history of Finland . The building really look like an old one and the decoration is literally like earlier times and ambience is like past years of history. Some of the building in Kolkata during early 90s were like this building. The museum is a must visit for the history lovers. Very good facts are highlighted. Staffs working there are very polite and kind. Even one can purchase souvenirs related the political history. It's brilliantly arranged. The ticket price is very low. Like 5-6 euros. "The only L enin Museum in the Western world is located in Tampere Workers' Hall, where L enin and S talin met each other for the first time in 1905." Soon it's getting closed( as per the news- Nov 3, 2024). "The Finnish Lenin Museum has a unique story. This is where Lenin and Stalin met for the first time, in a secret meeting of the Bolsheviks in December 1905.In the very same rooms now locates the Lenin Museum." "The museum has a permanent exhibition with material related to Lenin's life and the history of the Soviet Union. It also organizes varying exhibitions on different themes." "In April 2024, the museum announced that it would close at the end of the year and reopen in February 2025 under the name Nootti, in reference to the Note Crisis in 1961 between Finland and the Soviet Union. The museum's director, Kalle Kallio, said that the changes were meant to reflect the changes in Finland–Russia relations and added that the museum's old name did not "do justice" to its exhibits."
Arijit D — Google review
They say "no war" and put Ukrainian flag. But there are too many wars all over the world? This museum is against the war only if it hits Christians.
Said M — Google review
Small, but quite unique. Worth a visit if you're into history and want to learn more about the most important historical event of the last century. I've got extra insight into the perspective from Finn's about Lenin and his life in Finland. The exposition also includes a real-life reproduction of a Soviet era apartment from Estonia.
DMINATOR — Google review
We spend 2 truly interesting hours here! The museum is about Lenin; his connection with Finland, Tampere and this building; Stalin; Soviet history to nowadays. There was so many text on the screens, I feel like I read a book! Now I feel like filled in the gaps in understanding the history of the Soviet Union. And thanks for mentioning all political prisoners and victims of dictators here.
Marina — Google review
What a wonderfully curated museum with such a modern, yet classically meaningful approach to the nuanced subject, that is the Soviet Union and revolution. What’s more is that the location of this historical gateway is extensively relevant to the subject, in that this specific building was where foundational discussions took place, and important clandestine meetings were held prior to revolution. I had such fun learning about this from the Finnish perspective, and I will definitely return as I hadn’t enough time to read through all the literature provided. Expect to spend about 2-3 hours if you like to read a lot, and consider bringing some water and a snack along. Also, invest in the Museokortti if you’re an avid musem/art exhibition visitor.
Juandré S — Google review
Another must-see place in Tampere. This museum used to be the place to visit by the Soviet tourists but it also serves as document of Finnish history. The museum has renewed the exhibition in 2016 and it offers also facts and critical views of the Finnish-Soviet history. The place is not large so easy also for a quick visit. Includes nice little museum shop.
Mittikset R — Google review
Nice historical museum, tells story of Lenin, Soviet Union and relations with Finland. There are informative panels with small portions of text in Finnish, Swedish, English and Russian. Feels so good to go back to our modern reality after visiting this museum ;-)

The Finlayson Area in Tampere is a historically significant landmark, originally established as a wool fabric factory in the 1820s. Over time, it has transformed into a vibrant recreational space with an old-fashioned European charm. The area boasts numerous restaurants and unique dining experiences, including an American diner with a rodeo theme housed within a large industrial building. Visitors can also explore the nearby spy museum and enjoy the well-maintained surroundings.
A very lively place with many restaurants nearby along with home to famous museums. Well maintained, neat & clean and busy during peak hours. A must visit area while in Tampere.

Historic area. Factory that helped Tampere grow to what it's today. They built it on top of the nearby rapids. Nowadays it contains a cinema, bars, restaurants, museums. You can walk through towards the Stable yard. I liked the tall chimney and the contrast with the rainbow floor.

I think this place is the area where you can find the iconic place with old fashioned style, European before 20 centuries. The place has many restaurants, if I count it correctly. There is also a spy museum, but outside of the Finlayson area. Overall, this place is good and you can visit there directly by walking around six minutes from Keskustori trem station.

Museum
The Tampere Art Museum, housed in a charming redbrick building designed by renowned architect CL Engel, is Finland's third-oldest art museum. It features an annual Young Artist of the Year exhibition showcasing talented visual artists under 35, highlighting the evolution of contemporary Finnish art. The museum offers a lovely selection of modern paintings, Finnish classics like Gallen-Kallela's works, and modern installations.
My visit to the Tampere Art Museum was a really enjoyable and memorable experience. The museum itself is intimate but well-organized, with a great balance between showcasing local Finnish art and bringing in international exhibitions. It feels like a space where art is treated with a lot of care and thoughtfulness, and that translates into how the exhibitions are curated and presented. One of the things I appreciated most was the atmosphere. The museum isn’t too large, which means you can take your time with each piece without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The layout makes it easy to navigate, and the lighting and spacing allow the art to really stand out. There’s a sense of calm and focus that makes you feel fully immersed in what you’re looking at. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the museum provides clear information in both Finnish and English, which made it easy for me as an international visitor. I also liked that they offer guided tours and additional context for the exhibitions it adds depth to the experience if you want to go beyond just looking at the art. Beyond the exhibitions, the museum shop is worth a visit too. It has a nice collection of art books, postcards, and unique souvenirs that reflect the spirit of the museum. There’s also a strong sense of connection to the local art scene, which I found refreshing it feels like a place that really supports and celebrates both contemporary and classic art.
Rahman — Google review
This surreal art museum defies explanation—a labyrinth of dreams, illusions, and distorted realities. Each room feels like stepping into a different subconscious realm, where logic unravels, and the impossible becomes tangible. Paintings melt into sculptures, shadows play tricks on the mind, and interactive installations invite visitors to question their own perception. The space itself feels alive, shifting between beauty and the uncanny. Whether you leave inspired or unsettled, one thing is certain: reality won’t feel quite the same after.
Mercede E — Google review
I have visited the Tampere Art Museum twice and seen two exhibitions: “Tuula Lehtinen - With Pleasure” and “HYPER.” The “HYPER” exhibition was particularly interesting and captivating, well-curated with a lot of detailed information to read. The “HYPER” exhibition will be available until September 29, 2024. The museum is rather small, spread across three floors. For the “HYPER” exhibition, only the two upper floors were used. With the “Tuula Lehtinen - With Pleasure” exhibition, there was an installation by Charles Sandison on the ground floor. Highly recommended to visit!
Jan R — Google review
If you have one day in Tampere, this museum is a great place to spend about an hour. It features a fascinating collection of surrealist works that are visually striking and thought-provoking. Admission is €13 per adult, including an audio guide.

Great art exhibition. The sculptures are really thought provoking and makes you wonder about the concepts behind the origin of the arts. However, the exhibition is very small that is going on for hyper realistic art.

Great museum! Very accessible for wheelchair users. The ramp is not steep, the elevator is spacious. Well curated, could use some more extensive explanations of the artworks, but that might be personal preference. Or maybe subtitles like "about the artist" and "about the artwork"!

Located in the Pyynikki district of Tampere, the Pyynikki Coffee Shop & Observation Tower is a popular spot for both locals and tourists. The small cafe, nestled in the old observation tower, is renowned for its freshly baked and delicious doughnuts that are a hit on social media. Visitors can also enjoy locally roasted coffee from Tampereen Paahtimo while taking in the stunning panoramic views from the 26-meter lookout tower atop Pyynikki hill.
Famous for their donuts / munkki, always fresh and very tasty. Good traditional Finnish coffee, and tea. The space is simple but cozy. Great spot in Tampere, worth going for a walk in the woods and checking the views up on the tower.
Eduardo P — Google review
Great local cafe! We really enjoyed the Mukkis (kinda like a donut but a different batter and taste). The Kinkkupiirakka (ham pie) was absolutely amazing. I suggest the local soda made by the cafe. They have a strawberry and spruce flavor. Both are good. They have tea, coffee and juice as well. After we ventured up to the top of the tower to take in the beautiful view of the city. You can take the stairs or ride the elevator. There are a few stairs then at the end to get to the top. We had a beautiful day with breathtaking skies. Definitely recommend. After there are trails to walk that can take you in any direction in town. All tree covered, at least in the summer.
Kristy V — Google review
The donut texture is great, nice and chewy. The flavor is good but has cardamom, which may turn some people off. I also liked the cheesecake a lot. It didn’t have a very strong cheese flavor and tasted slightly of vanilla. When I went there was a long line. They have another location at Tampere Market Hall, which is also closer to everything else in the city. I didn’t verify that the food was the same though
Matt L — Google review
I haven't been here since we lived in Tampere in 1997. This place was on my bucket list upon returning for a vacation in July of 2025. It's the first place I ever tried a Finnish munkki. It did not disappoint! Beautiful scenery, fabulous views of Tampere and the lakes, plus delicious munkki with coffee ☕️. I'm so glad this lived up to my memories. ($2 to ride the elevator to see the views.)
Wendy R — Google review
They have vegan donut (only large size, 3 euros) and it was very tasty! A bit too much sugar for my taste but I could just shake some off and everyone else said it wasn’t too much. Coffee also was surprisingly good for coming from a filter coffee machine. Probably because there’s a lot of people buying and the coffee is made frequently. The line can be long since it’s a small and busy shop.

It takes some effort to find the Pyynikki tower when you come by public transport, but it's totally worth a visit! The donuts are freshly made and just delicious (if you like cardamom!). Tickets to the observation tower cost only 2 euros for adults, so that's a bargain! From downstairs the tower looked disappointingly low to me, but since the tower is on the top of a hill, the view is great anyway! If you don't feel like walking up the stairs, there's an elevator as well. Tip: you can go even 1 floor higher to the roof.

I'm Polish, so I know what a good doughnut is like, and these are excellent doughnuts ;) We came on a rainy Sunday afternoon, so it was not too busy and we could enjoy the food from a cozy window overlooking the forest. It is possible to park for free at the top along the road leading to the tower, there is a free toilet, and the café can be accessed without paying the fee for the tower.

Probably the best doughnuts I have ever had. Make sure you try the spruce lemonade soda. It's made in house and it's fantastic.

The Sara Hildén Art Museum, also known as Sara Hildenin Taidemuseo, is a prominent art destination in Finland. It features a diverse collection of over 4,500 contemporary artworks from both Finnish and international artists. The museum's modernist architecture by Pekka Ilveskoski seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings, creating a serene setting for art appreciation. Visitors can enjoy not only the indoor exhibits but also outdoor sculptures on the museum grounds.
We visited Heikki Marila exhibition that was well curated and perfect fit for the wonderful brutalist concrete building by architect Pekka Ilveskoski. There was an audio guide giving background information for the works and reducing the amount of typical texts on walls. The café was modest but had exhibits and a wonderful view of the lake. The sculpture garden outside is nice in the summer.

This was impressive .. but did expect more from yhis place so I feel like I was let down. Though the museum wasn’t that big, the art pieces there are beautiful.. also the plain concrete wall behind made those pieces stood out even more.

This moderately small museum has very interesting exhibitions, the latest being WE by Thomas Houseago and also smaller exhibitions by Nick Cave and Brad Pitt. It's a place to see in itself, it is situated by the lake Nasijarvi in Tampere. It's about 20 minute walk from the central square of Tampere or you can take a bus to get there.
M M — Google review
A small 2 storey museum with a cafe located a little outside the city centre. The museum was showcasing a temporary exhibition by THOMAS HOUSEAGO – WE WITH NICK CAVE & BRAD PITT. The art and sculptures featured were abstract. It was a curiosity to experience and contemplate the tempest of Brad Pitt in his art pieces e.g. the acrylic blocks of bullet sprays slowed and frozen in time. The life of the devil conveyed in a series of porcelain pieces from birth to death was unusual since the devil is more populary accepted as immortal. Brings to mind the Song by Joan Osborn "One of Us". We would have liked to have seen the permanent artworks of local artists collected by Sara Hilden but sadly none were on display. The visit took less than 2 hours, a part of the time was spent at the café. FOOD AT SARA'S CAFÉ: 👍👍👍👍 Cosy café with really delicious, creamy chocolate cake and good brewed coffee. The museum is water facing, has very limited but free parking. Place is wheelchair friendly.

It's one of the prettiest museums that I have ever been to. I absolutely loved it, and they gave out free audio guides!

Not crowded at all, so that was great!! It had a nice small selection of modern art pieces, which we mostly checked out because some of them where made by Brad Pitt 😅 Quite interesting, it's just behind Sarkaniemi so it's easy to get there. There are also some art pieces outside, so be sure to explore that area as well :)

Hatanpää Park Arboretum is a picturesque and expansive park surrounding the historic Hatanpää Manor, located just a few kilometers from Tampere city center. The arboretum spans about four hectares and offers delightful waterside paths, a charming rose garden, and inviting summer cafes. The neoclassical Hatanpää Manor, once home to Hans Henrik Boije, adds an elegant touch to the landscape with its English architectural style.
Very beautiful scenery in white during winter but you'll not have beautiful roses and green trees as there's a free small rose garden. It will be 2 totally different views but both uniquely beautiful. I've not personally visited during summer but I can imagine how different it will be.

If heaven exists, it probably looks like this. Seriously, the flowers and trees here are absolutely gorgeous, and the whole garden setup is just incredible. It’s so peaceful and quiet - like you can actually hear yourself think for once. Perfect spot to chill out and forget about all the crazy stuff going on in life. Definitely worth checking out if you need to recharge your batteries.

A stunning place to visit in Tampere! We went to Hatanpää Park Arboretum and even did an interview there—it was the perfect backdrop. Museokeskus Vapriikki, situated in Tampere, Finland, is a museum complex housed in a renovated textile mill. It offers diverse exhibitions covering cultural history, natural history, and technology. The center features interactive displays and engaging exhibits suitable for visitors of all ages.
Wonderful museum structure with many smaller exhibits under one roof. Unique and clean with much information in Finnish and English. You can also use your camera phone to translate much of the information as well. Free lockers to hold your personal belongings. There is a cafe and restaurant and moderately priced. Parking is close by and priced reasonably well.

Amazing museum with unexpected themes they have. In Vapriikki, they have many themes, such as DNA museum, Hockey, and even game museum! We enjoyed the venue, and ticket for children with less than 7 y.o is still free.

Don't let the €15 Euro entry put you off! It's definitely worth visiting this museum. It's informative and interactive - especially the games exhibition which was like walking through your childhood again and I even learnt that one of my favourite games comes from Finland! There is an interesting assortment of themes for the museum such as radio, post, Dungeons and Dragons history, ice hockey hall of fame and of course, the textile industry that built Tampere. This city was built because of the British and people saw the rapids and thought "money" - classic industrial revolution starter pack. This unfortunately is where the museum loses a stat from me, all of the information about the fabric industry is in Finnish with nothing in English which is such a shame when everything else in the museum is in both languages. Last but not least, go and check out the music exhibition for some Finnish knock offs of British classics. Definitely worth a visit

An outstanding location for anyone interested in various museum exhibits. The building itself is really striking and in addition to that houses several very well curated exhibitions. We came for the video game museum, but ended up checking almost everything they had. For the 15€ entrance fee this was stellar value for the money! All the exhibitions have English translations everywhere, so visitors outside the country don't need to feel being left out. The building is very easy to navigate and all the facilities are clean. The staff at the entrance was polite. As a whole the experience was highly recommended. The only tiny annoyance was the cafeteria at the center of the building, with a 0.5l soda costing 5€, which is a highway robbery.

This place completely surpassed our expectations. It had the superheroes exhibition which was really cool. The games exhibition was highly entertaining and brought back plenty of childhood memories. Plenty of different gaming consoles and games for everyone to try. The minerals exhibition was also really cool. We stayed for about 2 hours but definitely could have stayed much longer if not for hunger pangs. Language-wise, it was pretty accommodating. There were QR codes which you could scan to learn more. Would definitely come back again!

It’s got something for everyone — from incredibly lifelike wildlife dioramas (some of them are scarily realistic 👀), to sparkling gemstones, Marvel superheroes 🦸‍♂️, Finnish history, and even a whole section dedicated to Finland’s rock ‘n roll scene 🎶🇫🇮. Best part? Fridays are free for certain exhibitions — definitely worth planning around if you're looking to visit on a budget! There’s also a cozy restaurant and a gift shop on-site, so you can grab a bite or pick up something cool after exploring. Great place to spend a few hours — kids and adults alike will find something to enjoy. #FinlandMuseums #FreeFridayFinds #MarvelMeetsMoose #RockNRollHistory #FamilyDayOut #HiddenGem

Really good room interps - humanised by including stories of who did or might have lived there. Interps on individual objects was sadly lacking, with only the school room having any. It is smaller than I expected, and a quarter of the entire site is given over to the tearooms.

Tampere, also sometimes known as “Manse” (being compared to “Manchester” in that it was such a vibrant industrial city during the 17th and 18th centuries) used to have many working-class housing complexes such as ghat which can be seen at the Amuri Musem. This museum allows you to glimpse back in time to see a very well-portrayed lifestyle of those who occupied such complexes during Finland’s own industrial revolution. Expect to spend about 2-4 hours here depending on how much you enjoy reading, and be sure to have something to eat and drink at the on-site kahvila (café) afterwards or as a halfway-rest stop. Consider investing in the Museokortti if you live in Finland, which allows access to all Finnish musems and other attractions for 12 months (there are many)!

Amuri Museum of Workers' Housing is a beautifully preserved 19th–20th century wooden block that offers glimpse into the everyday life of Finnish working-class families. The museum's authentic apartments show how people lived from the 1880s to the 1970s. It’s a peaceful and charming place to walk around — great for families and anyone interested in history or local culture. Kaleva Church, a Lutheran church in Tampere, is a striking architectural marvel designed by Reima and Raili Pietila in the 1960s. Its construction features concrete towers and an extraordinary appearance resembling a giant concrete silo, earning it the nickname 'The Silo of The Souls.' The interior boasts bright spaces with folded walls and floor-to-ceiling windows.
Kaleva Church is quite an impressive building. It’s striking from the outside and equally captivating on the inside. The 30-meter/98-feet-high church hall can be admired from the bell tower hatch. Built between 1964 and 1965, it was designed by the renowned architects Raili and Reima Pietilä. The construction utilized slip forming techniques and consists of 17 narrow, 35-meter/115 feet-high hollow concrete U-shapes, with full-height windows interspersed. Definitely worth a visit!

The Spy Museum in Tampere is a unique attraction that offers visitors an intriguing look into the world of espionage. Established in 1998, it was the first of its kind and features an extensive collection of espionage equipment and artifacts from around the world, including items used during the Cold War era. The museum provides interactive exhibits where visitors can test out real spy techniques and learn about famous spies and their work.
10:20-14:15 3:55 hours visit (€7 student) 1:50h to visit the whole exhibition 2:05 to read the remaining pagee of the folder. Very interesting as you learn both about individual spies, how they related to eachother, the different spying / intelligence operations. I don't understand the low ratings, or people saying there isn't much to see. There are a lot of objects and a lot of information to learn - if they just walk through without looking it isn't really the museum's fault. I suggest visiting as soon as they open, because by 12/13:00 there were a lot of screaming and noisy children in the museum area.
Serena N — Google review
There are only a few Spy Museums in the world, and one of them is located very close to the Tampere train station. It houses a collection of espionage devices used by different countries across various time periods. Although it differs somewhat from the portrayal of spy gear in modern spy movies, seeing the items up close offers a unique experience. The museum also features introductions to famous spies from different countries, making the content quite rich. One downside, however, is that the interaction between the exhibits and visitors is somewhat limited, which affects the overall immersive experience.

What fun! And interesting. As we don't know the Finnish language, we were given folders with English language translations for all of the information panels. Some are already on display in English, but many are not and this folder on as quite helpful. The exhibits start with pre-WW1 spying and move through to present day. Information gathering techniques, hidden weapons, spy rings, spies, and much more are detailed in the exhibits. There's even a quiz you can take along the way. I highly recommend a visit.

Stable Yards, Tampere, also known as Tallipiha, was originally built for the horses and coachmen of factory owner Wilhelm von Nottbecks in the 1880s. The Russian style houses have been restored to their original appearance and now house artisan boutiques, handmade chocolate shops, and a cozy cafe. This distinctive block is considered the cultural center of Tampere with various museums, art galleries, churches, cinemas, restaurants and handicraft markets.
The historic stables have been converted into several boutique shops. Some sells candles, there's a chocolate shop, knitting goods, a café to have coffee and cake and a stand with waffles and ice cream. There are some animals like goats, caviar and big rabbits. The Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame, part of the Vapriikki museum complex, is a celebration of Finland's love for hockey. Despite being introduced in the 1920s and only gaining popularity as a spectator sport after the construction of the first indoor arena in 1965, Finland has since excelled in this sport. The hall documents the history and honors the stars of this beloved game.
The Hall of Fame at Museokeskus Vapriikki is an absolute highlight for ice hockey enthusiasts! This exhibit celebrates the rich history and legendary players of Finnish ice hockey with an impressive collection of memorabilia, trophies, and interactive displays. The carefully curated sections offer fascinating insights into the sport's evolution in Finland and honor the contributions of its iconic players. Näsinneula is a must-visit attraction in Tampere, Finland. It features a theme park with 34 rides, a planetarium, an aquarium, and an observation tower that offers stunning panoramic views of the city and its surroundings. The tower also houses a fine-dining rotating restaurant where visitors can enjoy exquisite meals while taking in the ever-changing views as the restaurant completes its full revolution every 45 minutes.
As a first-time visitor seeking a bird's-eye perspective of Tampere, Näsinneula was an absolute highlight. Dominating the city skyline, this iconic observation tower delivers truly breathtaking panoramic views that extend far beyond the urban landscape. From the top, you get a stunning appreciation for Tampere's unique geography, with its numerous lakes shimmering in the sunlight, the Tammerkoski rapids snaking through the city, and the surrounding forests stretching towards the horizon. The elevator ride to the top is quick and smooth, building anticipation for the vista that awaits. The observation deck offers ample space to walk around and take in the 360-degree panorama. Informative signs point out key landmarks, helping you orient yourself and appreciate the city's layout. It's fascinating to see how the industrial areas blend with the natural beauty from this vantage point. For an even more enhanced experience, the revolving restaurant at the top is a fantastic option. Imagine enjoying a meal or a drink while the entire cityscape slowly rotates around you – it's a truly memorable way to soak in the views. While I opted for just the observation deck on this visit, the restaurant is definitely on my list for a future trip. Näsinneula provides a unique and unforgettable way to experience Tampere. It offers a sense of scale and perspective that you simply can't get from ground level. The views are simply spectacular, making it a must-visit attraction for anyone wanting to truly appreciate the beauty and layout of Tampere. It's an iconic landmark for a reason!

Näsinneula Restaurant offers a stunning setting with breathtaking views over Lake Näsijärvi and the nearby amusement park. The atmosphere is truly unique, thanks to the revolving tower and the elegant interior. The food was very good, well-prepared and nicely presented. Service was smooth and professional throughout the visit. One downside was the restroom facilities — they were quite small for the number of guests, and the soap dispenser was broken during our visit. Overall, a solid dining experience in a beautiful location. Definitely worth a visit for the views alone!
TravelWithPuzz — Google review
To get to the highest point, you need to go upstairs to a restaraunt which is fine dining. The restaraunt slowly moves around and you can enjoy amazing views. The area below it is nice and has binocycles you can pay with coins to use. Nice views and the elevator is very fast, your ears might get "locked", so be aware of that.
Toni — Google review
Great views and nice experience overall. The rotating tower gives you a full 360° look at Tampere, and it’s cool to just sit and watch the city slowly shift around you. They give you a complimentary drink with the ticket, which was a pleasant surprise. Only downside is the price, it feels a bit high for what’s essentially a short visit unless you’re planning to eat at the restaurant. Still, worth checking out at least once, especially if you're new to the city.
Humberto D — Google review
Great experience, you can see so far away and it's very tall. The elevator was very cool too!
Oliver K — Google review
The observation deck is amazing (not free to access, though) but it is a very stunning experience. We went to the restaurant for a fine dining. Everything went okay but mind that you go here mainly for the views rather than for the catering (there were quite a few hiccups including a spilled drink all over the table by the staff). You will not overeat with a full Finlandia menu - no worries if you come not too hungry. Drinks are not cheap by any means. Three spins around the city views completes the experience. Paid 120 per person with drinks. It is fine for a one-time experience, I guess.
Aleksandr O — Google review
Reserve! Food itself was good if you take the eg Finland menu. Otherwise you will have to go to a second restaurant afterwards because you WILL leave hungry! Portions are *teeny tiny*and service is not very attentive. You will have to wait long time for next course. In-between you might need to make yourself aware, otherwise also no drinks while waiting for the food.

Tampere-talo Oy, established in 1990, stands as a beacon of culture and creativity in Tampere. This minimalist congress and concert hall is not only the largest venue of its kind in the Nordics but also hosts an array of exhibitions and international performances. A highlight within this vibrant space is the unique Moomin Museum, dedicated to the beloved characters created by Tove Jansson.
This place usually has many events that you can visit especially when you are a citizen in Tampere. If I am not wrong you could find the orchestra event and attend to hear good classical music. For, I visit here to see many exhibitions especially related to kid's activities where they have a dinosaur park and VR exhibition and in this place, you could visit the Moomin museum. The place you will not regret.

Parking pricey, and visited the Howe exhibition for lotr and it was ok, but way overpriced, framing was very glossy, too packed full of art. Then when you asked for water it is not allowed because they have some money making idea behind the centre. If you really love lotr and are into art then maybe try. Also the history link to Kalevala Finnish art was only seen in 1 artwork, which is a copy and not real. Overall for the money and what was displayed and the overall experience it was lacking. Also they sting you 2eu if you don’t buy in advance another money making trick as you can’t buy online for the same day morning any anyway, when you are going to see art you want to have a tactile experience, that’s the reason you are going? Hypocrisy at its best.

The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas, situated in the Finlayson cotton mill area near the Tammerkoski rapids, focuses on the history of labor and workers. It offers exhibits on Finland's independence, steam engines, and a model of a 1930s workers' town with 300 buildings. The museum complex also houses the Print Museum, Textile Industry Museum, Steam Engine Museum, and Europe's only Spy Museum.
The Finnish Labour Museum Werstas is a large museum featuring several changing exhibitions and two permanent ones: the Industry Museum and the Steam Engine Museum. The Industry Museum, which tells the story of “the Manchester of Finland”, the industrial history of Tampere, is particularly captivating and inspiring. The Steam Engine Museum houses a large Sulzer steam engine from 1900 that used to power the Finlayson cotton mill. The current main exhibition, “Builders,” is also noteworthy. There are plenty of activities for kids, and the entire museum experience is free of charge. Highly recommended!
Jan R — Google review
A nice museum about the industrial process and labor's movement in Tampere. The rotational exhibition was touching - when I was there in April 2025, it was about Ukraine's famine. The museum is free and informative. I highly recommend it.

Interactivity for kids 💯 Plenty to see and learn. We went with our 3,6,9yo kids and they loved it. The play area and activities for kids kept them entertained which allowed the adults to actually view the exhibits. I also love that the videos had a piechart-like timer to show the length. Language-wise, most displays had the English language. We spent about 2 hours here and would have stayed longer if not for hunger pangs. Best part, the museum is free! Highly recommended!
Samantha L — Google review
This free, well-designed museum has lots of interactive activities, perfect for families with children. There's a section where kids can enthusiastically role-play as bakery employees and construction workers. There's plenty to explore. This museum is highly recommended.

I’ve been travelling around Scandinavia for a few weeks now and I can safely say that this museum was the most interesting one I’ve visited so far. It tells the fascinating social and political history of both Tampere and Finland from the late 19th Century onwards. The exhibits are very well displayed and explanations are almost always in English. I thoroughly recommend it.

Been there for a wedding party. It is a beautiful place, although it is not suitable for more than 40 people at a time for a single dining celebration. You would have to split the people into different rooms if you wanted to accommodate more.
Asaf H — Google review
We visited on a summery Saturday. There was a wedding party indoors, but the terrace served other customers as well. The setting is very charming: an old house in the middle of a large, peaceful park works extremely well! The food was surprisingly good (our expectations weren’t high), and the price-to-quality ratio is reasonable. However, the service was borderline hostile. The staff (on our visit, a middle-aged male waiter) didn’t respond to our greeting, spoke only reluctantly, questioned our need for a second napkin (!), and was generally surly and unfriendly. A nice spot to stop for a beer, but the level of service is rock bottom. You’ll get a better atmosphere for less money by buying beers and picnic snacks from the Lidl around the corner and enjoying them in the park. Compared to this, the service at Lidl was almost lavish.
Antti T — Google review
Upon arriving, with all the empty seat in the room, we were been send to the most right hand and darkest corner. Another couple comes 3 min after we seated, they got the table in the middle, and their table properly setup with water, napkins, dinner wares... and our table... was still empty after 10min, and even the candle on our table was not lid, we have to get it fire up our self. We ask the waiter of our table for A La Carte menu, he just reply... “No, only Buffet”. But we have asked and talked with another staff about the lunch menu already... We explain to the waiter, than the waiter said “Alright”, came back with the menu, and almost as throwing the dinner ware onto our table... The food is very very salty also, not much specialty flavor. I would say this place is terrible, the staff are unprofessional and to some degree... racial discrimination in my experience. It is the most disappointing restaurant in Finland 🇫🇮 during my visit.

Finlayson's Church, built in 1879, was intended as a place of worship for the workers and families of the cotton mill. The church is located in the Finlayson area, which also features the Finlayson Palace, now a restaurant set in a picturesque park, and the charming Tallipiha Stable Yards. Once housing animals belonging to factory owners, this quaint yard now hosts craft shops, family events, and a cozy café offering delicious baked goods and homely lunches.
The Finlayson Church, located in the Finlayson area, is a charming and welcoming place. They organize a variety of activities for children. Historically, the church has deep ties to the Finlayson factory. Built in 1879, it originally served as a place of worship for the factory workers. The church was constructed in the Gothic Revival style and was designed by Frans Ludvig Calonius, the city architect of Tampere at the time. It was not only a spiritual center but also a significant part of the workers' community life. For instance, the first working day of the year was traditionally marked with a service at the church until the 1970s. In 1981, the Finlayson factory donated the church to the Evangelical-Lutheran congregations of Tampere, with the condition that it would continue to be called the Finlayson Church.

The beautifully curated displays and knowledgeable staff make for an engaging experience.
One of the most beautiful places in Tampere. Wonderful cafe with bounteous selection of cakes and pastries.
Minttu M — Google review
This beautiful former mansion is certainly worth a visit. The ground floor houses a cafe with good food, and a few rooms for dining or for private functions. The first floor has two sections: one is the permanent exhibit, and the other was about Opera costumes at the time of our visit. The permanent exhibit is about the family who built the house and about the house's history. The group in charge have done a fabulous job of restoring the building after the devastation it suffered through the years. Very interesting and informative. The Opera costume exhibit was also interesting. I'm not an Opera fan, but these outfits were something else! Some included pictures of the actor wearing them, including Rudolph Nureyev and Pavarotti. A couple were designed by Picasso. This is a beautiful place, which we enjoyed very much.
Cheryl S — Google review
Museo Milavida is one of Tampere’s most elegant and underrated museums. Housed in a beautifully restored historic villa surrounded by Näsinpuisto Park, it perfectly blends local history with international culture and design. The permanent exhibition about the Nottbeck family gives a fascinating glimpse into Tampere’s industrial past and the luxurious life once lived in the Milavida palace. The temporary exhibition on the Teatro dell’opera di Roma costumes was absolutely amazing. So thoughtfully curated, perfect lighting and the costumes are just stunning. Even the museum café is lovely and absolutely gorgeous interior. The villa itself is absolutely remarkable.

I remember this place from my childhood and saddly it has gone downhill. Cafe area is poorly made and the manor owner exhibition needs more information. But the building is beautiful, i wished I could see more rooms, like the "dark house".

Our favorite from the 2 city center malls. More "down to earth" than the newly opened Ratina mall. Nothing fancy, which we like. Location is little bit akward because of construction everywhere but that will clear out in few years :D

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Tampere, Finland, the Nokia Arena stands as the city's newest and largest event venue. This modern multi-purpose arena is a hub for an array of exciting events, ranging from electrifying concerts featuring renowned artists to thrilling world-class sports competitions. Owned and operated by the city itself, it boasts cutting-edge facilities that cater to diverse gatherings.
A modern and big event venue. Serves as a concert hall partly, but during the hockey season it serves as the 2nd biggest ice hockey rink in the country, and as a home base for the two local teams playing in the Finnish Elite League. The services are good and plentiful, and making the trip to the venue by public transportation is easy due to the central location: the arena is situated close to the train station, on top of the train tracks! Arriving via tram or bus is easy as well, since the stops for many bus lines and the tram line 3 are located nearby in the Sorin Aukio area.
Tuomas K — Google review
The Tampere Nokia Arena is a cool venue with good seating and a great atmosphere for events. The amenities are convenient, good for concerts, hockey games, or other events. TV screen is Ok. They need a new one. I felt like I went back in time, because of the screen and sound quality. Hallways get full quickly and it feels crowded, elbow to elbow. I made one lap once in two events (I wanted to see the place), but it felt like fighting through the crowd . Seating is also a bit odd, I had to disturb so many people in other sections to get ti my seats coming up from a restaurant downstairs. So it’s solid, good for events, but could have been designed a bit better. (I think) One can’t drink in the seats, but it could be a good thing , because most Finnish men were very drunk. Hockey in Finland doesn’t seem to be a family event (vs hockey in the US), but a place for groups of men to meet and drink as much as they can. Stefan’s restaurant: I will review it separately: excellent food and service. Overall good experience!

Tampere Workers' Theatre - TTT is a well-established theatre with a rich history and diverse programs. It is situated in a picturesque location near Hameenpuisto park street. The ticket booking system is efficient, offering convenient reminders and options for table reservations. The theater, while slightly old-fashioned, provides good acoustics and comfortable seating. It hosts phenomenal musicals and offers a unique museum experience focusing on Finnish-Russian relations in the 20th century.
Very interesting museum. Not too big but hosts a lot of interesting facts. It is not so much about Lenin as it is about the complex Finnish - Russia relations in the 20th century.

Just watched School of Rock The Musical which was phenomenally done!! Well done to all the amazing actresses and actors!! My only one issue was that I didn't know beforehand that the English subtitles would be via an app on the phone. I wish this was made very clear on the website so that I could have prepared earlier e.g. I could have downloaded the app and made sure I had enough charge and time to connect to the WiFi. Instead I found out about the app minutes before my ticket is scanned.
Fiona — Google review
We were at the older part (Eino Salmelaisen näyttämö) and it was a very unpleasant experience, since this place has a severe indoor air problem. One can smell and feel the issues. This review doesn't cover the newer part or the place/plays otherwise. Only that that coffee was 2,5e and cake would have been 8e. Together over 10e, which I consider a bit too expensive (and therefore didn't taste =) So 1 star for the old Part of this theatre. 2nd review for the new Part: that is 5 star, especially If the play itself is interesting; the surrounding serves it's purpose.
Tommi H — Google review

Keskustori Square in Finland is a vibrant spot for people-watching and soaking up the local atmosphere. During winter, it hosts a delightful Christmas market with stalls selling festive treats and unique handicrafts. The square is surrounded by cozy outdoor seating at various food places and bars, offering a chance to savor delicious foods while enjoying the surroundings. In December, the area transforms into a sparkling hub for the Christmas market, creating an enchanting experience.
The Tampere Christmas Market (Tampereen Joulutori) at Tampere Central Square (Tampereen Keskustori) is a cozy and well-organized event. It's open this year from November 30 to December 22 and offers a wide array of Christmas and handicraft items, as well as delicious food. The glögg restaurant serves Moro glögi, which is a highlight of the visit, although it was very expensive this year (9.50 EUR). The Tampere Christmas Market truly captures the Christmas spirit and is a must-visit every year.

Medium size cosy Xmas market that allows you to soak in the festive season. Would rate it a 4 star as it did not have as much variety as compared to the others i had been to in Switzerland during Christmas season which were larger in size, and had more variationim in their booths (I.e. game booths, magic shows etc)

In winter, the Christmas market is a delight to visit. The snowfall during our visit heightened the Christmas and winter feeling. There were many stalls selling Christmas goodies, glöggi (mulled wine) and local handicrafts. There are many unique local items here that made the visit more interesting. The market attracted lots of visits but it was not packed and we were able to stroll and look at each stall at a leisurely pace. We ended our visit at one of the café tents where we had pancakes, hot chocolate, sausages and glöggi. Others were having porridge, salmon soup and other local specialities. The tent was cosy, clean and a nice place to warm up and find a toilets.
