Far, far exceeded my expectations! One of the most rewarding museum experiences I've ever had. This is due to the organization of the contents and how they are displayed. The National Roman Legion Museum, the Fortress Baths, the Roman Amphitheatre, and the Legion Barracks (all free except the Baths) are worth the time to travel and worthy of a good half-day visit. My brother and I arrived at 10:00 and did not depart Caerleon until after 14:00. The staff were enormously helpful answering my many questions. Highly recommend a visit to Caerleon for the multiple Roman Legion venues!
This place is really cool if you're a history nerd 🤓 It isn't massive so you can go round it all I'm about an hour if you're reading everything, theres cool props etc you can take photos with. You get a cool comic style booklet with your ticket, it's a nice keep sake.
One of 3 fascinating Roman museums/archaeological sites in Caerleon. The museum is very atmospheric and incredibly informative with the ability to touch and handle some recreations of typical Roman tools/devices used at the baths. A must visit if you are into history
Participated in a free tour during the 'open Wales' event running throughout September, the tour guide that gave insights to the Roman establishment across the area was very knowledgeable and spoke with such enthusiasm that he provided a great sense of what life would have been like in the area throughout the period of Roman occupation and the significance. Beautiful area and a thoroughly enjoyable day out, would highly recommend a visit. There is a small fee to enter the bath house however most of the site can be visited for free.
The Caerleon Roman Baths was one of the weaker CADW sites we have visited. It was interesting enough, but the information on the baths was weak and not presented well. They have a video playing over the bath to show water effects and people swimming (see my videos posted with the review). Looks okay, but could have been so much better with better effects, scaled more human like people, they were about 9 feet tall and had odd body shapes, etc. The wall board says men and women never bathed together and then you turn around and the image of 2 people swimming in the bath is a man and woman. Again, the info wasn’t presented well. Also the staff weren’t great. They were friendly enough but didn’t seem to know much about it and didn’t seem to want to actually talk to anyone. There was an interesting cavern under the pools that was the old drain from the pools. There is water in it today, probably ground water seeping through. The main water for the baths came from 5 miles away, amazing the work they put into the baths. The other thing that is super neat but not explained well is the heating for the hot room. It had a raised floor and they somehow used the hot air and smoke from a fire to funnel through under the floor and heat the room. Pretty amazing those Romans!
The sites are impressively well preserved and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Fascinating to learn how sophisticated the roman legions were in their engineering abilities. Thought the pawprint and sandal imprint were special and added a sense of human connection to the past. The projected visuals were a creative touch, though the modern swimsuit imagery slightly detracted from historical atmosphere. Overall, a brilliant experience!
An excellent experience made even more special by the friendly staff. This attraction is well laid out and quite reasonable for admission. There are lots of kids activities and history to be experienced. If you are in this town take the time to visit. The staff will also direct you to the other Roman ruins and history in the city as well.
Pay to go in. Nice little walk around the old bath house, you can see a small portion of what was a huge site. Little clip boards given to the kids to entertain them. Interesting to visit. Doesn't take long to get around. Probably plan for 30 mins in there. No toilet inside. Pub right next door though.

We had a truly wonderful time at the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon. It’s amazing how much history is packed into such a relatively small building. The displays are fascinating, with an incredible collection of Roman artifacts that bring the story of the legion to life. Housed on the site of the ancient fortress of Isca Augusta, once home to the Second Augustan Legion from around AD 75, the museum offers a vivid glimpse into Roman military life. From weapons and armour to everyday items used by soldiers nearly 2,000 years ago, every exhibit is engaging and well presented. A visit here is both enjoyable and enriching — a perfect way to step back in time.
A gêm of a museum and despite it's size has a fascinating collection of Roman artifacts. Has very interesting, Roman garden and dress up for children. Have been here twice and will definitely return. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly also
Loved my visit to this Museum, it doesn't look much from the outside, but it's actually awesome and there's so much to see and do inside. As well as the awesome collection of artefacts, the actual story boards and timelines of the Roman occupation are really captivating, it's not often I read every sign, but in here I did. They have lots of cool props you can get photos with & the Roman gardens out the back are very cool 😎 It is free to enter, but you can make donations if you wish. You can combine a visit here with a trip to the Roman baths, barracks and Amphitheatre, they're all close together.
Excellent free museum telling the story of Romans in and around Caerleon. Helpful staff giving information about the nearby sites - Roman Baths (CADW), the fort wall, barracks and wonderful amphitheatre ❤️
Free museum with lots of info and amazing real life artifacts. I loved the various Roman soldier suits of armour and dress. We add weapons, coins, gems, etc. Lots of stuff to entertain the kids too. It’s a must see.
A great little museum. Loads of interesting exhibits with friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit.
We took advantage of nearby free on street parking for our campervan. If none available there is a coach park with additional large spaces in town. There are dropped kerbs and dimpled paving at road crossing points. There was a pedestrian crossing available. There are 3 steps up to the museum but there is a ramp to the side. Inside there is good access all around. The reception desk is immediately opposite but just step to the right and beyond the donations box the museum reveals itself. There are many interesting and unique displays of Roman artifacts. Roman legionnaries stand imposingly inside and schoolchildren may be able to meet a Roman Legionary actor (by arrangement). Of particular interest was some of the bronze pans and glassware. Many of the pieces were both delicate and intricate. There is a small shop aimed at childrens purchases. There is also a fine looking Roman garden.
The tour guides were amazing. Really informative and knowledgeable. It was interesting to see all the Roman articles. You must see the Roman coffin with the remains of a Roman soldier skeleton still inside. It's a really fantastic museum , just the right size with beautiful pieces of historical armour, jewellery, pottery, and mosaic work to enjoy. You can include a visit to the Roman Baths and amphitheatre, which is nearby. Great day out, hugely enjoyable.

Went here but it's closed for refurbishment but it was great to sea it, it's realy big
I'm sure it will be extremely interesting when it's open. The general area is very run down, with difficult parking. The traffic lights are currently out of action, making it incredibly dangerous to cross the very busy road None of this detracts from the awesome engineering achievement this bridge represents
We were lucky enough to attend the last open day before the bridge is refurbished. It was a glorious sunny day and we loved climbing up to walk across the top of the bridge. Not for the faint hearted though! Volunteers were all lovely and very enthusiastic. Can't wait to go back in 2024.
It's an interesting and rather unique experience. Must walk over the top, unless you are afraid of heights of course. It's 50 metres high and it's a mesh floor so can see all the way down while walking across. There are 278 steps on each side so fitness is also needed beside courage. The wind is very strong at top, be careful with loose items, phones and cameras. In exchange for the effort the view from top is beautiful, can see the movement mechanism, and there's an easter egg from the past around the middle 😃
People come from many different countries to visit this iconic landmark. It's something that all Welsh people should be proud of as it's one of the few transporter bridges in the world that is still operational. Walking across the top of the bridge gives marvellous views of Newport and beyond. The long walk up the stairs is well worth the effort and the staff are friendly as well as knowledgeable. The bridge isn't open every day so it's worth checking online or with Newport city council for the exact opening times. Certainly well worth a visit.
One of only a handful in the world is being restored again and has been closed through the CoVid pandemic. It is a wonderful sight, we were given an update by a passing cyclist with a transporter bridge hat on which was very kind. Hopefully opening again soon 😃
What a fantastic icon and a one off gem in Newports Crown. Staff really helpful and knowledgeable, especially Rob, looked a bit like Captain Birdseye, but very informative. Lots of info and artifacts to be seen at the local information centre. While I was there to walk over the top, I was joined by a guy who travelled up that morning from Cornwall, he read about it and decided to come up 👍 well worth a trip and do the walk over then return by the gondala, all for £4.
The transporter bridge is a Newport icon, with a beautiful gondola taking you over the Usk from West to East Newport & back again. A walk over the top is recommended (if you can manage the steps) for fantastic views of the estuary and city. It is closing in September 2020 for a couple of years of much-needed maintenance and hopefully a brand new, improved visitor centre. They are still fundraising for the money. Go and visit whilst you can. The Newport Museum & Art Gallery has a featured display about the Transporter Bridge, if you want to to visit there after your trip.

It's a great place for a walk, lots of gentle and flat trails to loop around in various ways. The visitor centre is immaculately maintained and staff are always friendly and helpful. The cafe has lovely views whether you sit inside or out. Bird feeders are well stocked with plenty of visitors and the noticeboard has all the wildlife recently spotted. Usk Lighthouse is photogenic and adds nice foreground interest to sunset photos. There are some bird hides you can find as well. All in all a lovely place to visit.
Newport Wetlands is a remarkable nature reserve that offers a unique blend of biodiversity and stunning landscapes. Spanning over 1,000 acres, this area is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The wetlands are home to a diverse range of habitats, including salt marshes, reed beds, and open water, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching. Visitors can often spot species such as herons, lapwings, and even the occasional otter, adding to the area's charm. The well-maintained walking trails allow for leisurely exploration, providing panoramic views of the wetlands and the surrounding countryside. The visitor center is informative, offering insights into the ecology of the area and tips for spotting wildlife. Educational programs and events are frequently held, making it a great destination for families and school groups. What makes Newport Wetlands truly special is its tranquility. The peaceful ambiance, combined with the sounds of nature, creates a perfect escape from the hustle of urban life. Whether you’re looking to hike, birdwatch, or simply enjoy a quiet day in nature, Newport Wetlands is a must-visit destination that showcases the beauty of the natural world.
Amazing area for the wildlife 🦆🦤🌾 The views are stunning over the estuary of the Usk and Severn confluence. The lighthouse is wonderful too with well signed paths and carvings for children walker ad cyclists 🤩 Ps great cafe too ☕🍰🧁
Amazing place to visit. Great walks, lots to see and do, friendly and helpful staff & volunteers with a decent cafe and view. Great for all ages.
Lovely walk with the kids. Very quiet and flat as well so can get around with a pram without too much trouble. Cafe is nice, decent coffee.
Lovely nature reserve, free to RSPB members otherwise it's £5 parking. Nice walks. Excellent little cafe with the view posted where you can have an ok coffee and watch the wildlife go about its business.
We picked the best day to visit to walk from the RSPB centre to the lighthouse, down to wearing just a t.shirt, the sun shone on saturday 8th nov. The visitor centre was busy, cafe being used well, lots of people walking along by the lighthouse on the sea front. Lots of nice wide paths to use around the reed beds, only downside was the path over the river near the lighthouse, using a mobikity scooter over it, was were lumpy bumpy and very uncomforatable.
Lovely, peaceful place. Great for children too. Visitor centre provides activities such as bird spotting challenges.

Some very impressive ruins next to a carpark and rugby pitches. Free entry and the opening times suggests it is locked up outside of these times to avoid people camping I guess! You're free to roam around and the site is quite sizable which you can see from the air if you have a drone. Could do with more information signs to show how it might have looked when in working order.
This time of year (winter, early spring) its quiet, so better now to have a look around and take some pictures. Would be a great place for a duel. Summer time it's a great place to relax on the grass upon a piece of roman history.
Caerleon is a delight and fortunately on the day we visited there was a wonderful volunteer who painted amazing pictures in your mind about what was going on here. Its free to entry and is quite stunning and suprising to see this still standing.
The amphitheatre is pretty cool, it's outdoors and free to go, so worth stopping by. It's certainly a lot quieter now than it would have been when there were games on there 🤣 Even on a dry day the ground can be a little uneven and slidy, so take care when walking down the slopes etc
Great outdoor spot. Very well kept! It would be great to see more illustrations around the place to bring this it to life.
The Caerleon Amphitheatre is an incredible piece of history, built around AD 90 as part of the Roman fortress of Isca Augusta, home to the Second Augustan Legion. Once able to seat around 6,000 people, it hosted military training, gladiatorial games, and public gatherings nearly 2,000 years ago. For us, visiting on a sunny day was a real pleasure. Sitting together on the “terraces” with our eyes closed, we could almost feel the atmosphere of this place as it might have been two millennia ago — the sound of the crowd, the clash of weapons, and the energy of the arena coming to life in our imagination.
Great place to visit with the kids. Public toilet close by, easy to park. You can just wonder in and you don't need to pay. There is a small museum just up the road, and you can also pay and visit the Roman Bath house. Just opposite the amphitheatre you can visit the remains of some of the old buildings, follow the long stretch of grass opposite and turn right at the bottom. We visited during an event where they put on circus skills and had Romans and Gladiators there. On a normal day you just see the ruins which is a nice picnic spot the kids can climb over the amphitheatre.
We visited the amphitheatre & the barracks. Signage definitely needs to be put in place to find it & to better explain what you can see. Would have enhanced our visit. Free to visit, but pay to park traffic wardens about daily so find a proper parking bay/place or pay a £25 fine. Roman museum free to enter & really worth a visit for lots of info & loads of Roman artifacts.

On my way home I crossed this park, after a busy day at work a little relaxation surrounded by nature. Flowers, birds, the wind whistling through the branches of the trees, everything green and quiet. The park is large, has toilets, a playground for children, clean and well maintained. Magnolia, daffodils and other flowers color the park.
Bellevue Park is lovely I was happy there was a good parking spot in the middle level because I only knew about the entry points at the top and bottom of the park It is on a hillside of course The parking in the middle brings you within 20 metres of the cafe that was a hot-house for tropical plants in years gone by when I visited as a child with my grand-dad - he loved to take me and my sister to the bandstand where a brass band played on a Sunday... happy days The Cafe is nice, it has lots of rooms and good areas for people with dogs, there were lots of nice dogs in the park The Cafe has good food and good coffee, I had scones, jam and cream. We had a family get together to celebrate grancha's birthday, he was a wonderful man The park is memorable for it's beautiful first trees I think There are great views We sat on the terrace which was lovely, on a delightful summers day There was no rush and we stayed out in the sun quite sometime before going inside We sat in comfortable chairs in a shaded area and chatted some more before leaving We had a lovely day
Even in October, it's a beautiful place with magnificent huge elderly trees and extensive views. Very peaceful place. Reasonable parking mid day mid week but I suspect can be busy at weekends. Excellent tea rooms with quality coffee and delightful choice of cakes.
This was a surprisingly large park with lots of pretty areas to explore.
Beautiful park all year round, great for dog walking and talking the kids to the ply area. If you are lucky, there are events on in the Pavilion, and the coffee shop is always worth treating yourself.
I'll confess I thought twice before reviewing a park, but, gosh, it's a very fine park indeed. Worth a visit for the trees alone - some really magnificent specimens- the park also features both superb floral displays and wildflowers one comes across while ambling around. Birdsong is plentiful, and there are tennis courts and a bowling green. There's a lovely bandstand that hosts various concerts in the summer months, a multitude of seats, some in secluded corners, and a tea-room that serves exactly what you'd expect it to. Best of all for anyone local to the park is the opportunity to experience the seasons as they change. Right now the park boasts a magnificent array of colours, and the busy main road running adjacent to the park just seems to fade away.
Beautiful place to visit abd walk around the park lot's of place sit and relax, read a book play with kids, dong walk see all the automatic leaf
We have been to many events at Bellevue park tearooms. The first being a Santa meet and great when my son was just 8 months old as he has grown events have included Professor Batbottom, tea with Santa (annual tradition now) and most recently tea with Princess Belle. The team are incredible, the food is delicious, themeing is magical and each time we have left with a smile and the promise to come to the next event.

It's a lovely choice of walks and a lovely cafe that you can either sit in or takeaway. There is an information centre aswell. The car park is a pay and display at a reasonable price. Worth checking Fourteen locks out
A nice outdoorsy area. The duck pond near the gift shop is nice. A nice hiking spot with plenty of nice views. I wish I’d went when the weather wasn’t so indecisive haha. 🌦️
Our first time in visiting Fourteen Locks in over 20 years and what a great walk and what a great day. It was £1.50 for 4 hours of parking there's a pay as you park machine and you can use NFC. Inside the centre there is a coffee shop, a little shop, a visitor's desk and I could see some other rooms. There were also some public toilets however these were quite tired and not great. In the toilet that we used the seat wasn't even attached to the toilet. They do sell duck food. £1.50 a bag but had sold out. On coming out of the centre we followed the path around the right of the small pond and then started walking down the left hand side of the locks. Please don't expect to come here and see a long waterway route. There is some water at the top of the locks but the further down you go the drier it becomes, however it was very picturesque. We decided when we got to the bottom of the path where it branches to the left or the right to go left and follow the path underneath the M4 motorway and then we bared round the left again heading towards the malpas junction. 2/3 of the way down we spotted a sign for the Allt Yr Yn nature reserve and branched off there to have a little nose, before making our way back the Canal Centre. We stopped off at the coffee shop and enjoyed a latte and cappuccino and a large glass of tap water. They sell hot and cold food and there is also a chiller fridge with cold drinks. All very reasonable priced and lovely service from the staff.
It's an nice place, well maintained and along the canal, so it's a good place to stop for a rest if you're cycling or walking the canal. Can get ice cream and cold drinks there. Parking available.
Lovely place to come and visit for a nice walk or for some time to yourself. There's a visitor centre at fourteen locks. They serve food, and they have items to sell. The car park is pay and display. There's a canal that stretches in both directions. One way leads into Risca while the other leads into Newport, Brynglas area. There are multiple paths to take to have a walk at fourteen locks, and it is great for exploring. The canal has had some work done to it. There is now a bridge in fourteen locks that connects to the other side of the water, toward the bottom section of the main area. There are also a few viewpoints that have been added to the canal overlooking points of the water. This place is great for dogs walking, cycle riding, and exploring. This is one of the best canals we've been to for walks and have been coming here for a number of years.
Nice place with great improvements since last visit. Good cafe with good menu including falafel veggie wraps and good coffee. Fair prices , efficient cooking and service. Coped well with a sudden rush of customers.
Lovely area to walk, dog friendly and great views down the valley. The locks are amazing feat of engineering from the 18th century !!! Some have been restored but of course money and volunteering has been in short supply last couple of years ! Great little cafe with lovely treats and good coffee, plus a little souvenir shop to help maintain the area. Well worth a visit.
We often have great walks and then go to the this lovely cafe in the 14 locks One of the best cakes in town.. nice outdoor seating options. Their Vegggie breakfast is a must try Often take my dog out for walk. Meet some lovely bunch of people. Nice seating area around the small lake

Super cute place. Friendly staff. Amazing buffalo sauce and proper fried pickles - even the ranch was good (I'm American so this is important). Loved seeing dogs there as well. Great selection of beers.
Just ordered a delivery from here. Firstly my 2 bottles of beer were missing. Second my food was late and cold. I ordered the seitan wings - gross! Rock hard & dripping with grease. Then the vegan burger - looked and tasted disgusting I couldn’t eat any of it and not even any beer to drown my sorrows. What a horrible experience.
Good pub grub but their own brewery's beer is the star, as is the lively but sensible atmosphere compared to the clubs/bars around it which are staggeringly loud meat markets. Great place.
Pretty quiet, not many people, so the place felt a little flat as a result. The music overpowered and conversation. Well laid out. Plenty of seating. Nice decor. The beer is as you'd expect from tiny rebel. Had food, typical offerings of burgers and fries with pizza etc. Had the bear fries and pizza fries along with chicken wings and onion rings. All ok, but nothing outstanding, however they are cheap, so definitely no complaints. Nice clean loos, and a nice lounge area downstairs
Definitely recommend great food fantastic beers really nuce staff and the place looked cool. I was doing a photo shoot nearby by and we walked past I recall my brother in law loves the beers!! so went in turns out they do food, my client\model orders chicken burger and spicy fries looked so good I ordered a beef burger with pulled beef on top yeh that was sooo nice. We ended up having a few and chatting the staff was so nice I ended up doing a little shoot for them or Instagram. Cant go wrong!
Great tasting craft ale that Tiny Rebel is famous for. Food selection is good and they have taken onboard customer feedback to add more vegan options. The vegan pizza is delicious! Always a laid back vibe, the interior decor is cool and arty, and there's plenty of seating at ground level and comfy sofas downstairs. There are some tables and chairs outside also. The staff are always helpful and friendly. If you're not sure what beer to buy ask for a recommendation and they'll also let you taste it first.
I went here with a group of friends to do the brewery tour, which was good. As well as good value for money. The bar looks amazing. Portion sizes on the food may be on the tad small size. But you're really there for the beer. Well, it's worth the visit if you are a tiny rebel fan. It does get busy, so I would recommend booking a table for your visit.
Newport may not be a huge tourist location, but it is home to one of the biggest national craft beer up'n'comers. Not only can you enjoy a grand selection of Tiny Rebel's range, but you can also find a few delectable guest ales on at this central locale. Very friendly and helpful staff; right next to the train station; lots of room.

Absolutely beautiful place to visit your favourite farm animals. Plenty of room for young and old to explore and enjoy. A family run working farm staff are lovely and food is home cooked ! Keep an eye out for the signs as sat nav can take you off route.
Great selection of animals, laid out well, chance to feed the animals as well. My Grandson really enjoyed his time here. Cafe was very good, lady serving us was very friendly, kind and a very good Chef, all home cooked food! Well worth a visit!
Walnut tree farm park is a lovely family run farm park with quite a variety of animals which you can feed (50p per feed bag). At £8 per adult and £7 per child found it was exceptionally good value for money - with lovely quality food in their cafe which was clean, hygienic and kept on top of. There are plenty of washing hands facilities around the farm park, and overall a really lovely experience. Great place for all ages, not just kids but adults too. £1 per person for the tractor ride was also great value to finish off the day ☺️
One of the best farm days out we have had. Really good value for money. There's loads to see and do here like Tractor rides, quads in the barn etc. Highly recommend for all the family.
This was a wonderful farm. Very healthy animals, we loved the Highland cows. Cafe was good, good coffee, reasonable prices. The only disappointment was that they oversold on the tractor ride. When we arrived to get on, the trailer was full, and we couldn't get on.
I recently visited this farm and overall, the experience was just okay. I was expecting to see a wider variety of animals, but there really weren’t that many, which was a bit disappointing. The place itself is fine, but if you’re looking for a proper farm experience with lots of animals to see and interact with, this may not be the best choice.
Our go to Farm, for obvious reasons... Healthy and happy animals helpful friendly and welcoming staff. Thank you so much
£8 entrance £1 food for animals. Perfect price? Lovely farm. Very king staff. We were struggling to find lamas but managed in the end! Amazing place to spend a day, especially if you have kids. Lots of fun. We are both single adults but were enjoying it so much. You can feed, touch and hug some animals. Loved the experience

We went to my granddaughter's dance show on Saturday 12th July which was great, were looking forward to having a couple of beers on the Bank there after the show as it was a lovely evening only to be told that the bar had closed,it was only 7.30 ,a lot of people were thinking the same as it was very well attended, such a shame, you hear about supporting these places which I gladly would have done by putting money behind the bar, you had two ladies serving earlier, clearly not proper bar staff who really didn't want to be there and couldn't get from there quick enough,it was only opening bottles, not a big stretch really, you had other people sat behind a counter doing nothing who could have easily gone behind the bar just for an hour or so, it's the riverfront s loss as they could have made a lot more money just by keeping the bar open until 9 o'clock say ,real shame when your trying to put money into places and keep them going
Always great entertainment here. Comfortable seats. Friendly staff
I only visited the café in the foyer. Small selection of decent pastries and cakes. Coffee was ok. View across the river was pleasant, although the tidal range means that you can often be looking at grey mud. Very handy for the National Express bus stop.
We went and seen a Celine Dion act it was really good both enjoyed the show. It's the first time we have been there, and it won't be the last. It's quite a big place look forward to next time.
Lovely local place for Panto and well priced cinema tickets. Cafe is nice. Staff always friendly!
From the stunning historic architecture of the theater itself to the breathtaking performance, the entire evening was magical. The acoustics were perfect, and we had a clear view of the stage from our seats in the balcony. The cast was incredibly talented, and the set design was imaginative. The staff was efficient and friendly, managing the intermission crowds with ease. A wonderful cultural outing that left us feeling uplifted and inspired.
Only seen one show here so far but theatre is well laid out and clean. Staff friendly and helpful.

The museum is upstairs in the library. So much local history on display, dating back to Roman times and beyond. Fascinating to read about local industries and Newport life. With free entry also.
Would have had a 5 star if the Painting I wanted to see was out but still very interesting place
The Newport Museum and Art Gallery offers a modest but insightful experience, especially for those interested in the history of Newport. While the collection isn’t vast and some visitors may find there’s not a great deal to see in terms of art or exhibits, the museum does a commendable job of highlighting the city’s rich industrial and social history. Displays on Newport’s role in the Chartist movement and its maritime past provide a thoughtful look into the area’s heritage. The layout is simple and easy to navigate, making it suitable for a short visit. The art gallery section is relatively limited, with a small but rotating collection of local and national pieces. It’s not the place to go for major works or large-scale exhibitions, but there are occasional gems and temporary displays worth a look. Entry is free, which adds to its value as a quick cultural stop in the city centre. Overall, while the museum may not impress those looking for an extensive or high-profile collection, it offers a meaningful glimpse into Newport’s story and is a worthwhile visit for history enthusiasts or anyone with local ties.
An interesting visit to the Museum of Newport earlier today "Free Entry!" 🤔 🏛 👍
A fantastic free museum! I could have spent a few hours in here if i’d had more time. Highly recommended if you’re interested in studio pottery or ceramics as the gallery showcased a huge array, from Wally Keeler to coronation mugs. A visit while in Newport is a must!
Great couple of hours out, good for all ages. They even have a sheet that children can fill out, which encourages children to really engage in the educational side of the trip.
Museum is so boring. It's been the same they haven't changed a thing I don't know how long it's been like this I've been going since I was a kid and I'm 36 nothing new They do need to update the exhibition badly . The building itself is so run down .
A hidden gem in Newport city centre! Art gallery on the top floor (lift available) is a curious eclectic mix of displays including permanent ones devoted to all things ‘tea’ and temporary exhibits from local artists - when we visited it was ‘ how green is my valley’ by Ron McCormick. The museum on Level 1 is accessed through the library and once again contains an eclectic mix of fascinating artefacts from Welsh history including interactive displays, and mosaics. There’s a kids activity trail to keep them busy too! Food and drink is limited to vending machines and seating area on top floor.

Went to Vodafone today and spoke eith Lauren. She gave me some amazing advise on a new phone plan and upgrade. I wasn't thinking I could take the new phone now, got Lauren helped me to make it all work and I was so excited to walk out with a new phone. This phone will now greatly assist me in my new job as a delivery driver. Thanks Lauren
Friars walk is a good place but the surrounding area spoils it some decent shops and places to eat. Not like the old in-shops and with the leisure centre gone seems like newport has seen its best days unfortunately
Lovely little shopping centre close to the high street. Parking is very busy however lots of disabled parking bays available. Lift up to the shopping quarter and lots of toilets around the vicinity. Could definitely do with more brand names in the shops to drive more people in as there are so many independent shops
Lots of eating places here. Sadly Cineworld has shut which was disappointing...and there is a Next and New Look and River Island. The University campus is on the other side of the road. However. not sure where all the customers are meant to be coming from...hardly the demographic as far as I could see...as usual the KFC is shocking in terms of service standards and hygiene...and of course there is the incredibly run down shopping centre adjoining it..and no public toilets to be seen...and very weird access to ridiculous steps and inadequate lifts...would like to come back in couple of years to see what state it is all in....
Many nice restaurants there ! And M & S foods haul & Saintsuberry & Costa ,KFC , Prezzo, Wagamama ,TGI Friday ,so on. The Next store had great selections of men's clothings at wonderful prices ! I found / bought so many cure made in U.K.birthday cards !! 4 for 3 ( price of 3 of equivalent price cards !! ) I loved the Costa upstairs there !! Very convenient w/ toilets !
More shops are starting to move in here but still closures the retraunt sector is very nice with landscaped views i have put the pictures i took here while in the area i walked through the centre to the te developed indoor market i thought it was ok as many people eating in the modernised well laid out market place i enjoyed my visit as i went to sèe a show at the amazing riverfront theatre worth a visit for sure
I like the restaurants but they need to keep stores from closing by offering competitive rates. If all that is left are painted boards there will be a knock on impact to those that remain and they'll all close. Please, keep this alive or we'll have a ghost town. UPDATE...Oh come on Talisker Corporation please! Empty stores won't earn you any rent and incidental foot traffic is lost for others. Debenhams has gone, the Cinema vacated as are so many other units now. Newport Centre needs quality shops and restaurants, not empty comic stores and 99p stores - please fill with prime stores. Reduce the rates and keep stores, at least until there is an over demand for units. Look how depressing it looks boarded up.😢
I only used Puregym. There are some dregs hanging around along with scooters & e-bikes flying about - ideally need the security people to enforce better.

It's a bit of an old school ground and there is sand all the way round the pitch but you know what? It's got proper old school football ground charm and 10x better than soulless bowls and stadiums. Staff were helpful and the walk to and from the ground was pleasant enough
We went here for a wedding party. The room was huge! And it looked fabulous. There was plenty of space between the tables and seating . Plus a great big dancing area. The hog roast was fantastic, and there was plenty of it. The bar staff were friendly helpful and served people quickly. The only gripe I had, was the treck to the toilets! However, they were clean and well maintained. I think this is a brilliant venue for any occasion. And if the weather was just a bit warmer later on, it would be perfect. Nobody can control the weather! All in all. We had s great time. And would go again 👍🏻
Great ground, pitch is immaculate, stewards friendly and helpful. Great place to watch a game of football, all age groups are welcome, give it a go you will not be disappointed.
Security is a bit heavy handed at this ground and although I'm all in favour of good Security I feel they could have been more friendly as they were doing their patting down and bag checks. A sile and a friendly word go a long way. Also paid for a covered seat but the roof doesn't extend completely over the stand so if it had rained I would have got very wet. On a plus side the toilet facilities are good. Ground lacks atmosphere.
Not a bad ground for a league 2 football club. Enjoyed watching a game here end of last season doing a bit of groundhopping. Better than a handful of L2 grounds out there. Good food and bar in the away area. Couple of really nice stands. Was also really impressed with the quality of the pitch. Also very baffled by the choir in the home end!! Was also very impressed with the Thatchers Cider adverts in the ground being in South Wales and not Somerset!
Great old ground pack in city centre and walk across the foot bridge.
Great if you’re a dragons or Newport county fan. Or not so much if they lose! Seen some great FA cup games played over there and some fantastic results.
Amazing experience at rodney parade hospitality is top notch

St Woolos Cathedral (Anglicanised St Gwynllyw) was founded as a place of worship and pilgrimage in the late 5th Century on one of the highest points in the area. The exterior matched the area on a drab day and lowered our expectations. However, when we ventured in late on a Sunday afternoon we were greeted by organ practice and a beautifully restored yet austere Romanesque church. Obviously a community centre, it was inviting and gorgeous. The practising organist stopped once he noticed us; wasn’t sure if it was modesty or that he didn’t think we deserved a free concert! Again a wonderful surprise of beauty within when the exterior says ‘boring’.
I walked up the hill yesterday and a service was just starting as I arrived. God must have been calling me I was just doing some photos of the wall and a little door in the wall and the trees There are large, leafy green trees all around the church I always consider God's house a church, indeed this place was made a cathedral in my absence I liked the service, a nice lady did a reading and I made friends with a Canon of the church which was nice The choir songs were lovely and we sang some nice hymns You are always welcome It is nice to have some quiet repose and peacefulness from a busy mind Goodness of God helps a troubled mind The fact that the church continues to provide a place for us despite all the apparent difficulties in the world is a marvel just as our living God is There are graves and grave-stones that carry important information for generations so I look closely to see what has been written You realise that being a part of something bigger is very good reassurance in living life where mistakes are always going to happen Absolution is only a repent away 😇😊🤗
Wow 5th century cathedral one of the first apostles churches in the UK Wales. Beautifully placed on the top of the hill in Newport city. The new church integrated with the old church . The old arch and the superb preserved columns in a Corinthian style sounds throughout the centuries kirie eleison, Amen. In their touch one can feel the past, thousands of services and liturgies(ΘΕΊΑ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΙΑ), throughout the centuries brings the past in front of you in quietness. Really worth visiting when you stop at the Newport town. Past and present and still more into the future.
Attended a London Film Orchestra concert here. I'd never been to the Cathedral before and as a disabled person I'm always a bit apprehensive with new places but I needn't have worried. On arrival at the queue I was immediately escorted to the accessible entrance after being asked if I'd wanted to go to the bar or toilet before going in. Everyone was really helpful and attentive. The concert was amazing and I had a fantastic evening.
St Woolos Cathedral has been a site of worship since the early 6th century. According to legend, the soldier-prince Gwynllyw was converted to Christianity when he was told in a dream to search for a white ox with a black spot on its forehead and, when he found it, to build a church as an act of penitence. Gwynllyw’s church, founded on Stow Hill, was almost certainly made of mud and wattle and has therefore been lost. The modern church dates back to the Norman period including the arched entrance and nave, constructed 1140-1160. The present building consists of a 12th century Norman church enclosed within a later mediaeval structure, restored in Victorian times and with a recent east end extension. In 1921 the diocese of Monmouth was created and the church was designated a cathedral and the east end was enlarged in 1960.
Went for the open door. A marvelous place. Even watched around Newport from the roof. An amazing day out.
Tiny, but the Norman parts are well maintained. The modern area by the main altar looks out of place at first but it grows on you
Have been to two concerts here with family recently, the acoustics were fantastic and the concerts were great value for money. It really is a beautiful, welcoming cathedral and nice to attend a service, light a candle to remember loved ones or just reflect on life. Highly recommend a visit.

Absolutely fantastic, I loved visiting and learning facts and history about the ship. I had a guide and she was wonderful. I 100 percent recommend visiting for anyone! History lovers and families too! There's a rat search and dress up! Fantastic little shop with wonderful books on the history of the ship too! I will be visiting again! <3
Passionate and insightful curators, children friendly, kiddo loved the "find the rat game".. plenty souvenirs to take with... So much to learn about the skill and art that was involved in the building of the ship.
So interesting! The discovery itself is amazing - the amount of the ship and its contents. However, the story of its discovery and the investigative work to explain the ship, how and where it was built, who owned it and its trade is also astonishing. Don't expect a polished museum but do expect to be excited!
Not been to see this for years . It has moved site . Event on at time with other groups also on site including a sea shanty group. Check for details. In side the information about the ship was very informative. Also guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. This visit the timbers were available to see . Timbers were impressive and demonstrated the size of the ship. Parking was limited as this is a industrial site . But as it was Sunday no problem.
Not too much to see yet but the introduction talk was very informative. We were able to see some of the preserved beams and planks. Gift shop with many interesting items available..
Really interesting and informative. Visited with my son and we both really enjoyed it, and learned lots of interesting facts. The volunteers were so knowledgeable and enthusiastic it and made the visit. Definitely well worth a visit. Will no doubt return again in the future.
We had such an interesting time visiting Newport's medieval ship. We were taken on a guided tour by a knowledgeable gentleman who was more than happy to answer any questions we had. To see the timbers of the ship in person was fantastic. I hope we can visit again once it has been rebuilt. I would recommend a visit to anyone who is interested in history or ships.
What a fantastic exhibition! The history of this medieval ship is extraordinary! The volunteers goes the extra mile to present the ship in details ! Highly recommended to everyone! Also they have a fantastic little gift shop ! 🚢 ⚓️ ❤️ Free entry, donations are welcomed 🙏
