Heritage building
Tredegar House is a grand 17th-century mansion located in Newport, surrounded by a 90-acre estate. It has been the residence of the Morgan family and later the Lords Tredegar for over five centuries. The house features ornate rooms from different periods and original maps that showcase its historical evolution. Visitors can explore expansive formal gardens, parkland, and a memorial to service animals in the stables and courtyard.
Tregar House is a lovely and history landmark to visit. It is home to the house and the gardens, both of which add to its character and charm. The house has some amazing rooms to visit, each detailing how the residents would have lived long ago. It really has an authentic feel, with the room items being organised to how it would have been. The gardens itself is quiet, expansive, and full of charm. It is a place to go alone, with the family, a couple, or friends. It is such a relaxing place that anyone would love to visit it it, have a picnic, take in the scenery, and enjoy the view of the surrounding areas, including the lake. The lake is fairly big, which is home to ducks, swans, geece, etc. There is also another little lake toward the bottom end of the gardens. There is a little park on site to which you can take your kids to. There is also a cafe that serves food, drink, and serves dog ice cream. This truly is one of the most beautiful places in newport and is such well kept, nothing spoils it. We come here on the occasion, especially during the warmer weather, to really enjoy the garden and walk. Highly recommend coming here to anyone who loves historic landmarks and/or to anyone who loves a relaxing and lovely, peaceful walk. There is parking onsite, which is payable, except in certain circumstances, such as where you have a blue badge.

We have been to several National Trust venues but never seen such enthusiastic staff members, high quality rooms with amazing details! Highly recommended! Hope to come back around Xmas :)

Tredegar house is one of the jewels in the crowns of National trust Wales. However for me that status is held together by its amazingly friendly and informative volunteers. The house and gardens are interesting but in all honesty once you have been round a number of them , I don't think there was anything that will make you go wow. All the usual accoutrements of a national trust property are here but as I said previously its worth visiting solely based on some of the best volunteers not just with the NT but anywhere
Kevin M — Google review
Really enjoyed our visit here. The grounds and house were nice, but the real winner for me is the lake. It's a really nice walk around it. Will definitely be back.
Luke — Google review
17/8/25: A good experience for a morning or afternoon with not only fairly large grounds to explore and often with trails for younger children to learn and explore. There is good cafe with plenty of space including outside seating in the courtyard.
Mal J — Google review
A little trip over the Seven Estuary today, with a visit to the historical 17th century Tredegar House, near Newport. The home of the Morgan family for over 500 years, and a filming location for "Dr. Who". The interior of this stately home is very impressive, but at the same time extremely tasteful. To hear a room is named the “gilt room”, gives the impression of ostentation and flamboyancy, but it is simply breathtaking. The grounds, of which a major part was gifted as a public park to the people of Newport, by the family, are simple, yet intriguing, having a somewhat Zen quality to them. At the end of our day sitting in a deck chair enjoying the sunshine was the perfect finish off before heading home. Thevonly downside to the whole day was the lack of gluten-free scones, so we had to for go our traditional cream tea 😪.

Beautiful Manor House. Value for money. Such a wonderful vast place. All the volunteer's were so welcoming and knowledgeable. Even had hat's through the ages to put on for so you can take photos

Besides being a stately home to visit, the walks are beautiful, dog friendly and fun. Lovely coffee venue in the grounds.

Visitor Centers
The Fourteen Locks Canal and Heritage Centre, located in Rogerstone, is a remarkable feat of engineering from the 18th century. This flight of 14 locks was constructed to overcome the challenging terrain and enable narrowboats to descend the hillside, facilitating the transportation of coal and other goods to Newport's docks for export. The site features ponds, sluices, and weirs that control the water supply, showcasing the ingenuity of canal engineering.
It's a lovely choice of walks and a lovely cafe that you can either sit in or takeaway. There is an information centre aswell. The car park is a pay and display at a reasonable price. Worth checking Fourteen locks out
Helen C — Google review
A nice outdoorsy area. The duck pond near the gift shop is nice. A nice hiking spot with plenty of nice views. I wish I’d went when the weather wasn’t so indecisive haha. 🌦️
Adam U — Google review
Our first time in visiting Fourteen Locks in over 20 years and what a great walk and what a great day. It was £1.50 for 4 hours of parking there's a pay as you park machine and you can use NFC. Inside the centre there is a coffee shop, a little shop, a visitor's desk and I could see some other rooms. There were also some public toilets however these were quite tired and not great. In the toilet that we used the seat wasn't even attached to the toilet. They do sell duck food. £1.50 a bag but had sold out. On coming out of the centre we followed the path around the right of the small pond and then started walking down the left hand side of the locks. Please don't expect to come here and see a long waterway route. There is some water at the top of the locks but the further down you go the drier it becomes, however it was very picturesque. We decided when we got to the bottom of the path where it branches to the left or the right to go left and follow the path underneath the M4 motorway and then we bared round the left again heading towards the malpas junction. 2/3 of the way down we spotted a sign for the Allt Yr Yn nature reserve and branched off there to have a little nose, before making our way back the Canal Centre. We stopped off at the coffee shop and enjoyed a latte and cappuccino and a large glass of tap water. They sell hot and cold food and there is also a chiller fridge with cold drinks. All very reasonable priced and lovely service from the staff.
Sarah M — Google review
It's an nice place, well maintained and along the canal, so it's a good place to stop for a rest if you're cycling or walking the canal. Can get ice cream and cold drinks there. Parking available.
Darren B — Google review
Lovely place to come and visit for a nice walk or for some time to yourself. There's a visitor centre at fourteen locks. They serve food, and they have items to sell. The car park is pay and display. There's a canal that stretches in both directions. One way leads into Risca while the other leads into Newport, Brynglas area. There are multiple paths to take to have a walk at fourteen locks, and it is great for exploring. The canal has had some work done to it. There is now a bridge in fourteen locks that connects to the other side of the water, toward the bottom section of the main area. There are also a few viewpoints that have been added to the canal overlooking points of the water. This place is great for dogs walking, cycle riding, and exploring. This is one of the best canals we've been to for walks and have been coming here for a number of years.
K — Google review

Nature & Parks
Beechwood Park is a delightful outdoor location for relaxed portrait photography. Its natural setting offers an abundance of stunning backgrounds, perfect for capturing precious family memories. Unlike a studio, this well-maintained park provides a more appealing environment with its breathtaking views of the Bristol Channel, tennis courts, and opportunities for leisurely walks and exercise. Autumn shoots are particularly spectacular here.
A beautiful and well kept park. Lots of equipment for children to play on and plenty of shade to retire to. A number of bins around the park ensure that it is kept clean and tidy and there are great open spaces for picnics and family get togethers. The parking near the park is good, but I would suggest you park down the bottom if just visiting the play area because this park is vast. The waterfall gardens are a must see if you are looking for a wildlife filled relaxing walk. I'd imagine artists would have a great time if they set up an easel in front of one of the benches. Plenty to do for all ages. I believe there is a coffee shop at the top of the park also.
Stan M — Google review
We love Beechwood park. They have small cafe with lovely ice cream. Tennis courts, and football court for the kids. The park itself beautiful

Such a beautiful place to be, no matter the weather. Beechwood park has two children’s parks (top & bottom) and a lovely cafe for you to refresh, refill and relax. The park also have some stunning plants, trees and is brimming with wildlife. Come here to relax and forget about things for a while...

It was sunny. Brilliant park with lot of space to walk around. Nice section for the kids area, both top and bottom half of the section. Nice area to possibly have a picnic and beautiful magnolia trees planted at the park.
John — Google review
Love beechwood park for my outdoor natural, relaxed portrait photography. Plenty of gorgeous backdrops and places for capturing memories of family times together. So many satisfied customers after hiring me to document their happy times together. Much better than a studio environment. Park is well kept and planted. Autumn shoots are spectacular here. Awesome views of the Bristol Channel, tennis courts, great places to walk and exercise. Definitely recommend.

Dog park
Glebelands Park is a delightful gem in Newport, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying stunning views of the River Usk. This expansive park features vast green spaces adorned with lush trees and serene ponds, making it an ideal spot for family outings or leisurely strolls. Dog owners will appreciate the ample space for their furry friends to roam freely, especially along the picturesque trails that meander by the riverbank.
A massive park, great for a walk! Be sure to head to the back field, as there are lovely walk trails through the woods! When it snows, this place is out of this world!!!!!! It literally feels like you are lost in the middle of nowhere! I wish that I could do one more lap of the park. Great park for the kids to play on, plenty of goal posts to have a kick around also 👏
Sharixx__ — Google review
Playground is poor and dogs have been attacked so we don't go there to walk our small dog. There is an indoor bowls club with quite a good café. Car parking is good.
Steve G — Google review
Skirting the gleblands is the river usk. There's plenty of parking and a large grassed area with a few trees and benches. A trail path runs along side the river. St Julians comp is sited there too, tennis courts, , St Julian club, outside drinking fountain. Spliting the site is the m4 but don't let this put you off as it's not that bad. I think it adds to the character. As you pass from one side to the other through a massive underpass you are in another green area that contains multiple rugby and football pitches. There's are many that walk there dogs, go jogging or just chill there⅘ but there's plenty of room and never issues. The site contains children's play areas. Swings, slides ect
LORD B — Google review
Plenty of wide open space for everyone from football and rugby to kiddies letting off steam, doggies chasing rabbits along the river edge or simply just enjoying a quiet wander in the fresh Riverside air. Take your own refreshments as there are no facilities here. There are bins for your rubbish.

Really nice big park which is great for walking the dogs in, a huge big separate field which wanders along a prettier side of the river and wooded area. You can walk all the way into Newport Town centre from here and it's a really nice walk especially in the summer months. It is quite a dog busy park in the early mornings, late morning is quieter for those who might have reactive dogs. A bit muddy in places so you may need your wellies :-) overall a nice place to visit
Laura I — Google review
Beautiful huge park, you can walk by the river. It’s amazing, especially with a dog as there is plenty of space for running.

After indulging in some retail therapy, take a moment to relax at one of the inviting cafes or restaurants on-site. The park also offers ample parking and beautifully landscaped areas where you can unwind amidst nature’s beauty.
Everything you need is here shops food and a tesco. Might struggle to get a car space on a weekend or half term. Quiet during the week.
Tracey — Google review
I cannot comprehend the level of traffic that I just witnessed trying to get out of the retail park (Near Asda and New Look). The design itself is horrific, with far too many junctions - that it feels like you need a riot shield and a mad max truck to push yourself out of the place. Took my partner and I 95 minutes to move 50 metres and maid us miss our spa break treatments. Avoid like the plague - was at 2pm on a Friday, with no form of accidents causing the hold up. Sometimes, hiring a traffic engineer at the point of design is worth it - should show a video of this place to students studying logistics at university to validate their degree & importance in society.

Such a wonderful afternoon tea experience! The staff were incredibly helpful and polite, going above and beyond to accommodate our friend’s allergies by keeping her food carefully separate. They took the time to explain each item on the stand, which we really appreciated. The food was clearly made with attention and care, and we were never without plenty of tea and coffee. A lovely, welcoming place — would highly recommend to anyone!

Such a lovely tea room with excellent selection of both food and drink. Lots of homemade offerings. I had the cheese and leek quiche which was so tasty, fresh and all at such a reasonable price. The young man that served us was very friendly and made a wonderful cappuccino! We will be back!
Laura L — Google review
We just had afternoon tea here, there were three of us, we had tea and coffee, as much as we wanted. Which was lovely of them, because it was only supposed to be tea. Presentation wasn't great, the sandwiches were piled on and some were coming apart. The cakes were too big. Would have preferred smaller , more selection maybe. Scones were lovely. We were sat in the door way of an empty room, so staff kept walking past every 5 minutes. We would have asked to move to a table by the window, so it would have been a bit more relaxing. But our table was the only one dressed. Maybe we expected too much . But £72 for the 3 of us? Not sure. Beautiful location.

My friends and I had a fantastic afternoon tea at Belle Vue. One of my friends is gluten free and was provided with a full selection of gluten free rolls, cakes, and scone, while the other two of us had our own selections. Proper china and linen made us feel very refined. The service was fantastic, very friendly staff. They even had doggie bags at hand ready for us to take our leftovers!

My husband and I were given a voucher for Afternoon Tea which we used as part of our Ruby Wedding Celebrations. We throughly enjoyed the food, lovely selection of sandwiches on brown and white bread, 4 different kinds of cake and a scone each with fresh cream and jam, not forgetting tea or coffee. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Would recommend.
Louise P — Google review
My wife and I went here with our eldest Grandson. and his young lady for afternoon tea. We were shown into the large main room which was light and airy, with a lovely view over Newport, which on this occasion we had all to ourselves which suited us as we had not met up for a number of years and it allowed us to talk. The cafe area itself was pleasantly busy with people enjoying tea etc The food, sandwhiches and homemade cakes , scones with jam and cream, unlimited tea or coffee served with a cheery and welcoming smile was excellent. I had previously phoned with our likes and dislikes and all our preferences were met to the letter with regard to sandwhiches filling bread type etc. I highly recommend this venue for family gatherings and or events and also for just a walk in the park with tea at the end of it.-

Nestled in the heart of Newport, Belle Vue Park is a beautifully restored Victorian-era oasis that invites visitors to unwind amidst its lush gardens and charming conservatories. Opened in 1894, this park boasts stunning architecture including a pavilion and a bandshell, all set against the backdrop of picturesque rockeries. With its Green Flag status and CADW Heritage recognition, Belle Vue Park offers an enchanting escape from city life.
On my way home I crossed this park, after a busy day at work a little relaxation surrounded by nature. Flowers, birds, the wind whistling through the branches of the trees, everything green and quiet. The park is large, has toilets, a playground for children, clean and well maintained. Magnolia, daffodils and other flowers color the park.

Bellevue Park is lovely I was happy there was a good parking spot in the middle level because I only knew about the entry points at the top and bottom of the park It is on a hillside of course The parking in the middle brings you within 20 metres of the cafe that was a hot-house for tropical plants in years gone by when I visited as a child with my grand-dad - he loved to take me and my sister to the bandstand where a brass band played on a Sunday... happy days The Cafe is nice, it has lots of rooms and good areas for people with dogs, there were lots of nice dogs in the park The Cafe has good food and good coffee, I had scones, jam and cream. We had a family get together to celebrate grancha's birthday, he was a wonderful man The park is memorable for it's beautiful first trees I think There are great views We sat on the terrace which was lovely, on a delightful summers day There was no rush and we stayed out in the sun quite sometime before going inside We sat in comfortable chairs in a shaded area and chatted some more before leaving We had a lovely day

Even in October, it's a beautiful place with magnificent huge elderly trees and extensive views. Very peaceful place. Reasonable parking mid day mid week but I suspect can be busy at weekends. Excellent tea rooms with quality coffee and delightful choice of cakes.
Trevor A — Google review
This was a surprisingly large park with lots of pretty areas to explore.
Karen B — Google review
Beautiful park all year round, great for dog walking and talking the kids to the ply area. If you are lucky, there are events on in the Pavilion, and the coffee shop is always worth treating yourself.
David C — Google review
I'll confess I thought twice before reviewing a park, but, gosh, it's a very fine park indeed. Worth a visit for the trees alone - some really magnificent specimens- the park also features both superb floral displays and wildflowers one comes across while ambling around. Birdsong is plentiful, and there are tennis courts and a bowling green. There's a lovely bandstand that hosts various concerts in the summer months, a multitude of seats, some in secluded corners, and a tea-room that serves exactly what you'd expect it to. Best of all for anyone local to the park is the opportunity to experience the seasons as they change. Right now the park boasts a magnificent array of colours, and the busy main road running adjacent to the park just seems to fade away.
Simon G — Google review
This park is a slice of tranquility in the centre of Newport. I found it 3 years ago when I moved here and I've been visiting ever since. Its so beautiful to visit in the spring and summer with all the wonderful flowers and trees. The grounds are really well maintained and it is such a great place to walk your dog. Some of the levels of walking are quite steep so be mindful if you struggle with that. A wonderful cafe at the top entrance, serving drinks and food, seating indoors and outdoors. Really friendly staff. This place will always be one of my favourite.

The Tredegar House Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is a peaceful 7-acre rural site with an orangery, walled garden, woodlands, and a lake. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the facilities including toilets, showers, dishwashing sinks undercover with hot water, and laundrette are well-maintained. It's located in a great spot for exploring Cardiff, Newport and the valleys further up.
We loved this site situated in the stunning grounds of National Trusts Tredegar House. Also well worth a visit. The facilities were excellent having recently been renovated. Perfect pitches and lovely staff. Ideal for a restful break. We enjoyed a bus trip to Cardiff.

We love visiting this place. The kids love it as they can run around, great walks and a nice park. It's a great way to spend a few hours. The only things that could be improved: 1. The pay machine is impossible to read. You can't pay by card either. Either coins or via phone. 2. Only 2 parent and child bays that I could see / find. Its a great place for kids but with only two parking bays, that could be improved. Otherwise though, it's amazing!
Georgie H — Google review
Our go to site when coming back to wales. It is located conveniently just off j28 of the m4 in national trust grounds. You do need to navigate the national trust gate after closing which can be a pain but no fault of the site. The thing that makes this site great is Mel and Dave. They are by far the friendliest and most helpful managers of a site we have been to. They care about the site and you can see from the manicured lawns, painted fences and clean facilities. Love staying here and will continue to be regulars on our trips back to wales.
Alex C — Google review
Highly recommend, a hidden gem, and quick and easy to access from the M4 corridor. It's facilities have recently been refurbished to a high quality, which have been immaculately clean on our two recent visits. The Pitches are large and level and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Great walks with plenty of nature and wildlife to see around Tredegar Park, this place is stunning with two lakes. I should imagine in a few months this will be outstanding to visit. We will definitely be back.
J C — Google review
Ideal location just staying off the M4. Yes you can hear the noisy traffic but its not disturbed our sleep - the heavy rain did more damage to that ( and some dogs barking!!) Amazing family bathroom - with shower, bath and toilet all in one room for young families only. Everything is clean tidy, level gravel pitch. Very friendly staff. We have enjoyed our stay here with out 3 young children. So much room to go off on our bikes, play park etc.
Helen D — Google review
Good sized pitches. Lovely clean toilet block. Located next to Tredegar house, a National Trust property. Entrance into the grounds a five minute walk.
Carol C — Google review
A very enjoyable experience was had at the park. The food in the cafe restaurant was excellent, well presented and well priced. The staff at the reception area were polite and very knowledgeable and helpful. Will definitely return to the park so that a full stroll around the house will be possible

Recently renovated facilties block and pitches resurfaced. Great location set within Tredegar park grounds with easy access to adjacent park. House and gardens is run by National Trust. Some road noise from adjacent roads and M4 but did not detract from stay

Love coming here with the kids for family fishing days. Ben and the rest of the Angling Watch team work so hard to keep this place immaculate (Green Flag award says its working!) Their concern for fish welfare following recent oxygen crash was amazing. This really is a gem of a place in Newport. Long may it remain

A very green space in suburban Newport, surprisingly small amount of litter and looks well maintained. Big fields nearby to walk around and a football pitch. Pond has a decent amount of wildlife and lots of people fishing around it. Shame you can't walk all the way around, but if you live in the area it's a welcome slice of countryside.

If I could give 10 stars for hospitality I would. Not only are the lovely couple who run this community café friendly and welcoming but they restored my faith in humanity. On route from Carmarthen to Wiltshire we wanted to stop at a small business rather than a service station - as well as wanting an open space to stretch the dog's legs. Unfortunately due to several sat nav errors we ended up lost twice for over an hour before even making it onto the m4! By the time we finally made it to our chosen rest stop, the Pavillion Café had closed. We were the very definition of tired, weary travellers in pain (chronic pain disability) and feeling our day was turning from bad to worse .But, by a sheer stroke of luck, the owners came out of the doors to lock up and- having heard of our misadventures- very kindly offered to reopen so we could use their toilet and then provided us with takeaway cups of tea and biscuits. This act of generosity completely turned around what had been a stressful day and gave us a reason to smile! Like many small businesses, we learnt the Pavilion Café has been impacted by COVID-19 and recent event. To the local community, I'd urge you to support the café; it's a real rare gem as are the lovely couple who run it. You're lucky to have both so please do continue to support them!!

The area is good the place is nice and there's a lot of nature so the children can explore but the bad side is that the equipment is too high and it could cause an injury 🤕...... And when it's dark and old man shout's "park is closed park is closed park is closed park is closed" well he might have summer breaks so it's maybe ok to stay all night 🌃 everything else is good 👍

We personally use the park to walk our two Labradors, and it suits our needs perfectly. There's a small play area, which is fenced off so that dogs can't get in, a football pitch and tennis court which is also enclosed. There's a small car park, a path all the way round, and you can also access the canal to walk along a good few mile stretch. Some parts of the grass tend to flood during very wet weather.
Sarajo — Google review
Kimberly Park, is always a pleasant area of playing field and park, unless it has been raining heavily for a while. It has been more useful to canoeists at times. Nice open area to play and run around. The park is linked to a canal, it is my favourite place to be on a sunny or even overcast day. You really do see some wonderful wildlife. When taking a roll along the nicely tarmacked pathway. My attention was taken by a heron on my last visit. Which was right by the Kimberly park. I sat and took out my phone and filmed the birds. If you fancy a walk for a few miles and a snack, head up to the 14 lock cafe. Then enjoy a gentle walk back to the Park. You may be tired, but even if you take it steady. It is a great feeling to know you got out and destressed. I always feel better for it. Anyway, I wish you the very best. I hope you enjoy the clip I leave, of the Heron.
