We did the 4 hour nature tour with Andrea and we were very impressed with the depth of knowledge and passion for the flora, fauna, and history of the area. We loved the tour and we learned so much! Highly recommend Rio Lagartos Adventures if you are looking for a tour here, it was worth every penny :)
We had an amazing time with Saul, he’s truly passionate about what he does! He spotted plenty of wildlife and shared a lot of interesting information. The tour was beautiful, and we got to see flamingos and crocodiles up close. Highly recommend!
I think the tour is similar for all "operators". It's a nice experience but you don't see so much. We have seen two crocodiles in fixed an well known places. Many birds, but only 4-5 species, including the flamingos. The pink pools are vizibile only from some hundred meters. But all in all, we're happy we chose to do it. The price was OK, 1000 per boat.
Amazing tour, we saw crocodiles, flamingos and other sick animals! Saul was a great guy, very enthusiastic -almost enjoyed seeing the crocodiles more than us😂-.
Saul was an amazing and passionate guide! He was very knowledgeable and the tour was absolutely informative and insightful. We enjoyed a lot the tour since we saw many animals like birds, crocodiles, flamingos, etc He was also available to bring to the muddy beach to experience the mud in the skin and after that he brought us to another beach to remove it. They also offered us a shower at the end of the tour. We recommend also their restaurant, just after the experience! Strongy recommended!
Saul was wonderful! His expertise was fun and informative. He was very accommodating when we wanted to linger at some areas or get closer to some of the birds we were enjoying. At the same time he was incredibly respectful of the animals’ space and maintained appropriate boundaries for their well being. It was a joy to spend time learning the history and ecology of this unique environment! We also were treated to some special sightings such as a bare throated tiger heron which was exciting for us all!
My group stayed two nights at the hotel and went on several guided tours with Rio Lagartos Adventures, all of which were worthwhile. The birding tour was eventful despite it being the "off season." We saw crocodiles, flamingos, laughing hawks, and cormorants to name a few. The tour included a mud bath in mineral rich clay and a swim on a beautiful beach in the lagoon. Andrea was very knowledgeable and explained the differences between the four types of mangroves, how the ecosystem functions, and answered any questions we had. The fishing tour was very productive, my group used fly fishing rods to land some tarpon and jack fish, then later caught some lady fish and catfish from the docks. The restaurant has a simple but elegant selection. Everything on the menu looked delicious and I loved everything that I ordered. The hotel rooms were wonderful, the AC and fans made for a very comfortable night's sleep and the showers were spacious and clean. As the only person in my group who is not fluent in Spanish (yet), I was accommodated with staff proficient in English. The whole experience was 10/10, highly recommend.
we had a great tour to the mangroves. Carlos is a great guide, he showed us crocodiles, different birds and mangrove nature. speaks excellent and clear English, told a lot about the nature and animals of the mangroves, and also took pictures. You can park car near the agency. Its possible to see a lot during the tour. thanks to the company and Carlos

A tour guide is required to take you for viewing, we were there around 11.00. We just view the lake but you can extend your tour to see the birds and gators as well. There is a vist attached to each tour. Our guide took some great photographs.
Absolutely STUNNING!!! The salt glimmers like little diamonds around the lake. Our tour guide took some of the most amazing pictures using our own cell phones and they will forever be priceless memories ❤️
Super Great! Highly would recommend! If you're going to get a thrill... You will be disappointed, it was hot and not a crazy much and if you don't speak Spanish they don't have a lot of information for you but the tour we went with did very well (Passion Cancun) would highly recommend them as well! If you want to see cool pink water and some other things go check out Las Coloradas!
That is a awesome place, but beware to the local guide which act like you are accessing their private property which is actually free. You may take over 1 hr for photoshooting in the area. But, the lake is rally remote from city, better take enough food and drink if you plan to stay longer.
Its very photo genetic place, 📷 if you like photography, you could spend like am hour here and make sure you could climb somewhere high As there is a sand dune barricade in between you can't get near. But don't ever miss the seaside and have some freshly caught fish , ceviche, seafood soup, amazing
Amazing place! If you have an opportunity to go to Cancun and have time, you should stop by. Pink lagoon varies in color depends on weather, season etc according to a guide. We could also see flamingo there. It might be better to go there by tour.
👀Look out it's a tourist trap😧 The trap: $140 pesos (~$7 US) to pass a gate that allows you to get a 'closer look' or $200 pesos (~$10 US) to climb a tower for an 'overview' and get a 'closer look'. My point: It's hard to say whether your experience will be good or bad, because the pinkness of the water is dependent on the sun, algae, and other factors the guide (whom must escort you) was unclear on. Suffice it to say, when you get there it can be worth the LONG drive (2.5hrs from Merida). The pinkness is not guaranteed, and if it is pink you can see the waters for free! The issue: IF it is pinktastic...OF Course you are gonna want a closer look or climb the tower to get an overview. My advice: So how do you salvage the 5hr day trip (roundtrip)? Bring your swimwear👙, a 📷 or binoculars, and a picnic🧺! You are on the Gulf a Mexico and it's white sand beaches⛱️ are 5-10mins away from Las Coloradas. And if you keep your 👀 peeled you can find small ponds/marshes full of 🦩🦩🦩! Let's Connect, Be sure to check out @Brazilsontour (IG)
Best moment to actually see the pink color is at noon. Color depends on the direction of sunlight. Beware, there are a lot of mosquitos, come prepared. Locals will invite you to take a tour the moment you arrive in town. Unsure if you are obliged to take a guide or not, as the Salinas are factory territory... With a guide you are not allowed to take pictures with a camera, but phone is ok...(?).

excellent option to make the rio lagartos tour, we made the reservations one night before with Elmer , súper easy, then our tour guide Carlos was super nice, knowledgeable, respectful with the environment and easy going to talk to.
Great Place!!! So much better than what I could observe from other tours. A lot of local fishermen will approach you in the town. Skip them. I saw how they acted on the water. Some of those fishermen went far too close to the crocodiles, even cornered the crocodiles with two boots, and even touched the crocodiles. This is forbidden behaviour by law and it is dangerous for the animals and the people. Other fishermen do not even find crocodiles because they go far too fast around. Happily, this was very different to the experience with Juan Carlos. He is a licensed guide, he knows how to interact with animals, and he knows a lot about the animals. He takes time to explore each place and approaches this with calmness and maturity. He has great communication skills and made me feel safe all the time. Thank you.
Beautiful tour . I recommend 100% . Ask for Carlos , nice and professional guide . We went in January, we could see crocodiles, birds and flamingos. Cost 1300$mx for 2 people
We found this company on Google. Jurge is super friendly and patient. He explained everything, and provide all the information to us. During the trip,he listened to our questions and showed us beautiful sits inside the biosphere. The area is beautiful and well preserved. The cost is fair and the value is high. You should also check their restaurant. Thanks.
We took a 3 hours private tour with Jorge to explore the estuary and see wildlife. We've done a lot of tours during our travel times, but this simple man is next level guide. He is a local, speaks English very well and is continuing legacy from his father. He knows area very well and can provide a lot of information about flora and fauna there. On the way back we saw a lot of boat tours, with my partner we were joking they are quiet tours, because there was little talking or just pointing on animals. Jorge on the other hand was explaining about mangroves, flamingos, crocodiles, Mexican bay, Mayans. Yucatan peninsula, etc. He is an expert and knows a lot about Rio Lagartos natural reserve and is also doing enviromental work for Natural Parque. After our morning trip to see wildlife we went to near island with local restaurant to swim in Mexican gulf, eat fresh sea food, drink beer and simply enjoy the moment. Book this tour, you definitely won't regret it, you will support a local guy and contribute to protecting wildlife.
Rio Lagratos is a small village, blink and you will miss it. A bit off the beaten path but worth the drive. Strongly suggest taking a boat tour. Local guide/captain will take you on a adventure through open water and rivers where you will get a chance to see some very unique birds and even crocodiles. Same birds actually to up to the boat to show off their feathers ...in exchange for some fish (ask the captain before you leave port). Pelicans are also very popular. One may also see the salt lands (i called them that 😁). A place where the water turns almost pink. Do take the drive...definitely worth it. Do take cash...no ATM machines...anyyyywhere
Visited Rio Lagartos today and after a great lunch in front of the pier, we were off on the boats. Seeing Flamingos, aligators, going for a mud bath and following with some swimming. A Great time and place to enjoy !
It’s definitely one of the best tour I tried in Mexico. I was lucky to haggle to the attractive price, but anyway each peso worth it

The best Experience on our day trip by far! Went to the Ek Balam, to the pink lakes and this was our last stop of the day. Totally worth it - we paid 400$ for 3 Personas. Our Guide Martin was hell of a cool dude.
Absolutely amazing experience Granja De Cocodrilos Itzamkanac is a truly unique place, and we can’t recommend it enough. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed, and it was clear that the staff genuinely care about their guests. Each group gets their own private tour, and everything happens at the visitors’ pace giving you time to ask questions, take photos, and fully enjoy the experience. You get to see both small and large crocodiles up close, and at the same time learn a lot about the animals and their role in nature. What makes it even more meaningful is that the farm plays an important role in helping restore the crocodile population through responsible breeding and conservation efforts. You really feel that your visit supports something bigger. If you’re in the area, don’t miss this place. It’s an experience we’ll never forget.
It was so interesting! And you can hold the crocodiles and even feed them. You can feed them only on Wednesday and on Saturday. Because they only eat twice a week. It was so nice and amazing to learn about crocodiles more!
I absolutely loved that experience, and I'm usually terrified of reptiles! You get to feed the crocs and hold the baby ones, all feels nice and safe. You can tell they are well cared for. Must visit on your way to Rio Lagartos/Las Coloradas
I went because I was in a tour for Las Coloradas and they stopped there. Terrible, sad, and they explore the wild animals They said they care about the animals and they do this for people be conscious. How people can be conscious if they can touch, take photos and use wild animals like a thing? They maintain a lot of them in a cage, terrible conditions to live, put tapes on their mouth and I saw a ladie who works there hitting one of them just to stop move. This is a shame, make money with wild animals? Would you like to be treated like that? I don’t think so. So please think twice to go there because this place only exists because still have people to finance them.
Wonderful experience!! The tour was very exciting and informative, they allowed us immediately to take pictures with a 1 year old and a 3 year old way, followed by feeding of young ones (up to 5 years old), explanations about how they breed them here to be released (the young ones have many predators in the area, only 3-4% survive in the wild), finishing with the bigger ones. You can see they care about these animals here, there is even a big one that was rescued (missing eye and feet). They also told me about the struggles after a hurricane hit them so hard 3 years ago followed by pandemic. Only the love for these animals from local people kept the project going. Although they spoke little English it was not a problem because it was a really hands on experience: being able to feed them and even pet them! My girlfriend was so scared when we arrived but by the end of the trip was so daring to go grab them by the tail, enjoyed so much! Muchas gracias Martin y especialmente Venancio por el recuerdo!
Very nice place, small tour, but you get a lot of memories. You can feed and hold crocodiles. They explain a lot about crocodilea, very nice people working there.
We absolutely loved this place . Thank you so much for all the information and attention. Highly recommended place to visit on your watch to Los Colorados .

Visited in early November after main season. The weather wasn’t the best but still some flamingos and crocs here.

We had an amazing experience with this guys! We saw plenty of crocodiles and a variety of birds up close. Our guide and captain, Kelvin, was professional, knowledgeable, and his English was excellent. Special thanks to Martin for assisting with the booking and providing all the details. Highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Rio Lagartos!
We booked a tour with Martin via GetYourGuide. We had the entire boat to ourselves with Martin as our guide. The tour was exceptional, Martin has a lot of knowledge about the area and wildlife - he was very respectful of the animals. In 2 hours we saw crocodiles, flamingoes in two locations, brown pelicans, hundreds of other birds and even two raccoons! We even went as far as the pink salt lakes. Be sure to bring binoculars, although Martin has some on hand. Cannot recommend this tour enough.
Amazing tour with Martin. Very knowledgeable. He shared a lot of information and his experience on how unethical practices in tourism can affect wildlife. You can easily book a tour with him on whatsapp and while arriving make sure to drive directly to the meeting point and not stop with other vendors ;) he will be waiting there for you with the boat ready. Highly recommended if you want to experience wildlife with a reflective guide :)
If you’re looking for an awesome guide in Rio Lagartos, Martin is the guy! He made our day absolutely unforgettable, taking us up close to crocodiles, flamingos, pelicans, and so much more. His knowledge of the area and the wildlife is incredible, and you can tell he truly loves what he does. Not only did he take us to the best spots for wildlife watching, but he also made sure we had an amazing experience from start to finish. He even took us to a private beach where we could relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. And the best part? He took fantastic photos of us throughout the trip, so we have amazing memories to look back on! If you’re heading to Rio Lagartos and want a fun, knowledgeable, and super friendly guide, Martin is the one to go with. Highly recommend!
Martin's tours were recommended to us in the hotel Tabasco Rio. We met for all details and the next day we went for a trip to lagoon seeking birds, flamingos and cocodrillos. We went with our two kids and we all enjoyed those 2 hours trip. Our guide Martin Jr. did his job perfectly. We found various wild animals and had chance to observe them in their natural environment. He adjusted the trip also according to our kids age. The price was confirmed ahead and paid after the trip. The boat Is for 6 and the price is set per boat. Boat trips to lagoon are definitely worth it and I would say Martin tours are reasonibly priced and the value is high. The lagoon itself is amazing environment and it is gem of this village.
We had an wonderfull 3 hour tour tot see the flamingo's and so much more! Abraham was an amazing tour guide and took his time to show us everything. We saw so many flamingo's and birds and even a crocodile! Thank you Martin and Abraham for showing us this fantastic place.
I would like to give biggest recommendations for tour guide Martin! We have been in Mexico for 2 weeks and tried many experiences, activities, but this one was just the best! The tour guide was super professional and showed the best places, with flamingos, crabs, crocodiles, many different birds, told the very nice information about the animals and environment. To see that close animals in theirs own nature is just amazing and feel safe with the guide is the goal and that was what we had, so really the biggest recommendations for this amazing guide Martin! 💯
We booked a boat trip with Martin and it was really nice! The contact with Martin was really good, by WhatsApp. Before the trip he came to our hotel to pick us up. The trip was also really good! He showed us many birds, mangroves and give lots of information about it. He really did his best to see the crocodiles and we saw 2! Martin is a really nice and friendly guy! Really recommend this trip!
