It was so amazing to be able to visit such beautiful sight. The Kids had a blast!
What's there to say? Just look at the pictures and just go!! So beautiful! Along the way, stop by the kurobe dam to take photos of the alpine mountains 🏔️ and take a slow walk along the snow wall. There are 6 modes of transport, so be very vigilant of your timings especially if you're traveling alone. Check weather conditions before proceeding with the route. Also. Have an open mind, there are many inconsiderate tourists.
I have no idea why people can give a 5 star to such a messy unorganized company. Apr 17, snow was said to be the reason, instead of cancelling some morning tickets, all were kept loading onto the cable cars. We were delayed getting on the cable car by two hours and there wasn't enough time for going to the end station at Ogizawa. We were hushed and rushed to go from 2:10pm in 4 hours. No sight seeing, nor getting out to see the snow wall which is has too deceitful photos on the web. We were push and hurried to transfer from one vehicle to another, barely make it to the last bus service. I feel so humiliated and the chaotic mess of people got stuck waiting at all the stations was a joke. Besides, why the shipping of luggage has to be started at Toyama? We didn't know service was delayed until we were at Tateyama, to late to back out as luggage was already shipped. Why luggage has to be in Shinano-Omachi and not in Ogizawa or Nagano. We had an express bus ticket from Ogizawa to Nagano that we couldn't get off at Shinano-Omachi! There were many tour groups got stuck the same time. A tour guide mentioned the schedule was delayed very often. This part of journey is the most disappointing and upsetting and it made me feel like I don't want to go visit Japan again.
Must visit and ensure you queue for the individual line, don’t mix with the tour group
Beautiful Must visit place, Book your tickets in advance.
Cool day there. Wonderful views. Did it from Nagano side as a return ticket up to Murodo. Don’t forget to ask for the 2000 refund if you collected all the stamps!!
What an amazing experience. 10/10 will visit again.
Japan's most famous snow cliff is the "Snow Wall," or Yuki no Otani, on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. The 20-meter-high snow wall is naturally formed by the accumulation of thick snow during the winter and is open to the public in spring, typically from mid-April to mid-June. Visitors can hike among these snow cliffs for a unique experience amidst the breathtaking scenery.

The dam is damned humongous!!! What a damn dam!! It would most likely be super stunning during summertime. I went during winter season when the spillways don’t operate but I heard they open the spillways to shore to the tourists during the summer season <3
It is a beautiful and magnificent as it can be! It was built at 61 years ago according to our. Tours guide. And 171 people were lost during the construction! The lights rain on the day of our visit did not affect its beauty. The dam and the lake really made this place magical! All four seasons will give this place a different and unique face, so it is worth of coming back sometime! We also saw a performance in front of gift shot even is raining! What a fantastic performance!
Absolutely magnificent! 🍂 Visiting Kurobe Dam in October was unforgettable, the earthy autumn colors, the rainbow terrace, and the scenic views all along the route were stunning. Also as always, Japan is so thoughtful in accommodating tourists, combining the nature and how they made it easy for all people to hike, even though it’s a short uphill hike from the station to the top, the views make it more than worth it. Every step of the trip was memorable, with breathtaking scenery everywhere ✨✨✨
An impressive feat of engineering. They give you around 16 min to transfer from the Kanden electric bus to the cable car. Walking from the bus across the dam takes around 10 min at a brisk pace. However you might want to slow down and look around, it's beautiful. We however opted to slow down for the return journey to maximise up in Murodo. On the way back, there is a 40 min gap between the cable car and bus transfer back in the afternoon so time to enjoy the dam then.
From Murodo I took the tunnel electric bus, ropeway and cable car to arrive at the Kurobe dam at 12:06 pm. It’s a beautiful sunny day in September. The views are impressive.
On my way to Morodo i was wondering why would i even stop to see a dam, but once you arrive there you understand why. There's also an observation deck on the opposite side to e joy the view even more. One of the highlight of the the whole Kurobe alpine route
A magnificent location that shows the courage, determination and resourcefulness of Japanese people. Nature blends in extremely well with man-made structure here.
I visited on August 9, 2025, and was lucky to see a rainbow on the water under the dam. It was absolutely incredible

Review is for food here. I ate the black ramen 1000 yen and my husband had curry rice 1000 yen. Both are nice. There is free roasted green tea. Service is good
One of a kind experienced. Bathed there twice year 2018 and 2022 when i visited snow wall tateyama. The window view was amazing it feels like i was in mini Switzerland♨️😍
I had the pleasure of staying in Mikurigaike Onsen (2 bed, western style) for 4d3n in July 2025. The location of the onsen was great, walking distance to Murodo Terminal and there are signs along the way to guide you there. Once you arrived at the onsen, you will be greeted by Mikuri Cafe and the lovely staff at the counter. The room may be basic as we only had the beds, but the service and food made up for it. The half-board option with Mikurigaike onsen was great as we do not have to worry about food. And the set dinner surprised us for its variety, and it was sumptuous! The staff in onsen were thoughtful enough to provide us different options every evening, so we do not repeat the food. I noticed that we were eating different dishes from the rest of the tables (which we had already had them on our 1st night) The onsen serves as a good base for hiking and respite for multi-day exploration. We enjoyed our stay as we hiked Mt Oyama and we aim to be back to explore Murodo and the other mountains again! Highly recommended to fellow hikers. Thank you for the hospitality, staff from Mikuri Onsen!
Came here on a day trip from Nagano on 16th November. Wonderful lunch spot with an incredible view and pleasant walk around an alpine route marked with bamboo poles. Surprisingly accessible given the altitude. You can also pay for an onsen experience for $1000 yen. The area is alpine, paths are packed snow though waterproof boots are a must as well as sunglasses. You can however purchase mini crampons for 2200 yen in the shop for stability with other shoes at the store, and sunglasses for 1000 yen at the Mikurigaike Onsen to help walk around more safely.
Worth the stay! Dormitory-style but comfortable. The staff are nice, and the food is decent. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to use the onsen due to my period. P.S. The hallway kind of gave me The Shining vibes haha
This place is disgusting. There was hair in our food. The only reason why they have so many great reviews is because they offer a huge discount if you leave them a 5-Star review before you check-out. The staff are trained to urge reviews from you. The reality of the situation is this place is infested with cockroaches and rats. I’ve seen many little roaches come out of my sheets in daylight! The rats only come out at night but you can hear them near the rooftop. This was confirmed by my girlfriend who saw them with her own eyes. Don’t be cheap and try to stay here as there are many other options along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
This onsen ryokan is more popular among tourists. Dinner served beef cutlet taste very bad and but morning breakfast buffet is very good. Check out time is 9am sharp and onsen cleaning time is from 8am to 9am where you cannot take bath. Restaurant close at 8pm and there is not vending machine for you to buy beer but you can bring your own food and alcoholic drinks.
Extremely stunning place, really almost like Swizerland, with the plus of volcanic landscape and lovely lake and patches of snow even in summer! The hot spring has amazing waters, you instantly become smooth like marble. The rooms are shared but there are curtains in between for privacy and you have your own electric socket and small lamp. The dorms have 6 beds, 3 up 3 down. Bring own towel, they have shampoo. The dinner included in your room price is EXTREMELY DELICIOUS and very high class, never expected such gourmet stuff from a Mountain Hut without easy access. Breakfast also very nice and varied. The Ramen we purchased there for lunch with shrimp and pork meat was truly impressive, rich and delicious. All staff were wonderful and helpful. You can easily stroll around and enjoy the amazing views in all directions. This place is always beautiful in any season! Can't wait to go again and enjoy it in a different color!!

Such a splendid sight! The max height of the snow walls changes from year to year depending on snowfall. They open on April 15th, I recommend going as early as possible before the snow melts too much. Recommend to buy the Alpen route tickets in advance on their website. They go on sale about a month before opening and sell out super quickly! Don’t worry if you didn’t get a web ticket, you can also buy on the day at the different see m stations along the way (Toyama, Tateyama, etc.) they keep a lot of tickets closed for online sale so it’s almost always possible to get a ticket on the day too. The queue to the ticket booths can be long in the mornings though. There were a lot and i mean A LOT of people during the operational hours. Don’t be fooled by my pictures, I managed to go before the opening hours through a shuttle from the lodge I was staying at. If you want to experience the full Serene and blissful wonder of the snow walls, I recommend staying overnight too. Although if you don’t mind the people, it would make for a good one day trip.
When we visited in Mid-May 2025, the snow was not as high as few years ago but still in very impressive amount of 16 meters! If possible, do arrive as early as possible because it will be very crewed by 11:00AM. We stayed one night at 彌陀之原, so it was not as many people at the time when we arrived. There are two parts of snow wall you can explore, the narrower one is for the people to walk, the larger and higher one is for buses to use! The 16 meters one is the largest of the two! It is a once in a lifetime experience. Do come if God permits!
Amazing view. Don't forget to bring a real pair of dark sunglasses, that's hurt after a day in white! I was with an organised tour trip, otherwise it might be complicated to plan a whole day from the bottom to the top. Was on 21/04/2025, highest point was 16m, amazing!!! Thanks to the people who work under this extreme condition.
Very happy to be able to make it to this specular snow corridor. We visit from Nagano to Ogizawa. The wait was not long on a weekday. The drive up was equally stunning with views of the mountain sakura.
I came here when it was rainy and foggy, but still a nice view. The whole Japan's Alpine tour is a great experience.
Tourist must come. This place is very gorgeous and it has a lot of snows and it is easy to do skiing in this park and you take a bus from fu Shan to here it takes around 1 hour to get to this location
May 23rd Still 15meters high wall. It can get crowded obviously, but it's a must visit place in Japan for a reason
Way too many tourist. Tour groups literally bring their customers up to murodo just for the snow wall. Very disappointed at the walking distance of the snow wall as it was shorter than expected. As of late May, the snow wall has melted to 11m. If you come up to murodo just for the snow wall, suggest you coming up earlier when they just opened. The walk only starts from 930-1500.

We came across this spot when our Airbnb host suggested it after we canceled the alpine route tour due to bad weather forecast from the afternoon. We visited here in late October so there wasn’t as much water as in spring and I would certainly love to see all three waterfalls. We were on the first visitors to the site early in the morning and it was lovely to be able to take pics and enjoy the beautiful view without the crowds. But the sun wasn’t quite in the called yet and the angle of the sun also limited us from taking shots from certain angles. Maybe next time I will try midday or early afternoon. It is just a short walk and refreshing walk from the parking lot to the falls along an asphalt road and we saw many elderly and children walking the route too. The waterfall itself is huge and you can feel the spray on your face from the look out point. It really is beautiful and something I recommend if you are in the area of the alpine route as it’s just up the road.
It's a little bit of walk (~15mins) up to the waterfall from the free carpark. Lucked out and went right at the intersection of autumn and winter. It was really quite spectacular.
It is a great walk along the well-maintained path to the large waterfall "Shomiyou waterfalls". From the website; Shomyo Fall, one of the most unexplored spots in Toyama Prefecture, has the highest drop in Japan. The waterfall has a drop of 350 meters! The dynamic sight of the water splashing down is a sight to behold. It is a nationally designated scenic beauty and natural monument, and one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, It has also been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan and one of the 100 most beautiful soundscapes in Japan. Another attraction of this area is that you can enjoy a different atmosphere each season. In spring, the valley is still covered with lingering snow, and much of the melted snow from the Tateyama Mountain Range flows into the valley, Alder Falls" appears on the right side of Shomyo Falls, and two waterfalls cascade down. A rare sight of waterfalls cascading in a V-shape can be seen here. When the water volume increases from spring to summer, Shomyo Falls overflows with great force, The spray from the waterfall basin resembles the release of water from a dam! In the fall, the valley turns red and yellow, and the contrast between the richly colored leaves and the white waterfall creates a fantastic atmosphere. At the Shomyo-daira Resting Area near the parking lot, visitors can learn more about Shomyo Falls through a model and video, At the rest house in the back of the rest area, visitors can enjoy delicious soft ice cream.
About 1 km walk from the parking to the foot of the falls. Nice retreat away from the city. Just 1 hour from Toyama Airport. The day we went was sunny and cool and comfy. Shomyo Falls has water all year round and it is the highest falls in Japan with 350 m height. When we came early June, the Hannoki Falls has water and with 500 m height, it is the highest falls inJapan at the time (only when it has water;)
The most beautiful time is July 25 This place looks very beautiful during July .
Very famous ans nice waterfall. Sorrounding takayama national park is very beautiful.
Japan’s Highest Falls. A nice stop for a quick get away stress reliever from the chaotic city. A very relaxing sound from the gushing of water falling down the mountain.
Shomyo Falls is considered the tallest waterfall in Japan by the period of running water and is one of the significant attractions of Tateyama Kuorbe Alpine Route.

This is the start of my trip to Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, I came with my group tour from Indonesia. My tour guide choose Kurobe as the starting point of the route, because we will go to Kanazawa after this alpine route and it will be faster to go there from Tateyama. The view on this station is already really good, I can't wait to see rest of this alpine route. It's also very cold in here because Here we are going to ride an electric bus from this station to the first stop, Kurobe Dam.
there were 3 busses deployed during my slot, it was cool to watch the bus in the tunnel!
Come early so you have more time at the top, especially if you don't have a reserved seat! A bit pricy for a round trip from here to the top (¥12k Yen) but it's worth it for the views even when the weather goes bad
Very smooth process. Did the Tateyama Kurobe route from Nagano with express bus to Ogizawa. Bought the return pass to Murodo from Ogizawa - this saves having to buy a ticket at every stop. Ticket office is directly 5m to left of when you get off bus, very easy. Kaden tunnel electric bus takes you under Mt Akazawadake, a remarkable feat of engineering.
It is a very beautiful bus station. There are complete facilities. Disabled people can travel. Amazing place
First stop to the snow wall and the Alpine Route. The electric bus is very efficient but can get very crowded
Easy to access and well organized station for the Alpine Kurobe pass.

24/08/14 it was a cloudy day, mountains were covered in clouds , the temperature was between 10-12 degrees, if you got sports shoes with good grips you can climb this 3015m high mountain; but hiking shoes are recommended. We could still able to see some spots still covered in snow thats rare to see in this hot summer.
You can’t get better view of this. Highly recommend a visit in April and early May. Stunning view of the snow and the sky.
Breathtaking scenery! beautiful mountains. I went there summer 2025, there are some snow on the top of the mountain and u can touch/step on it along the pathway. The local preserves like 80% of the field and prohibits access for visitors to step on the grass. Which is great! clean and beautiful with flowers amongst the meadow. There is stepping stone pathways around the field to visit the lake, another restaurant, and other sightseeing spot.
We have a tough time one day 1 climbing. Day 2 we had the best view. Check the weather before heading here. Have extra days if possible, great difference of having rainy, cloudy vs clear sunny. All the best to u and have fun! Onsen is great here.
Definitely worth the 2-hour public transportation transfers to be here! Great view, nice and easy hike, and the weather is so cool when the city is terribly hot. Wish I could do a mountain peak hike next time. Make sure you book the tickets in advance!!
Mount Tateyama is something to behold. It took 4 different variations of travel in order to climb from the bottom to the very top! Each stop providing something fun to look at and sights to see. It was breathtaking to see the expansive forests, fields, mountains, and rivers. If you love nature, this is one of the largest minimally touches areas in Japan to visit. Besides some roads, an onsen, and transit stops, there is nothing but nature for Miles around. I highly recommend a visit with an astrix. That being the amount of steps I had to take and the amount of walking, Besides the modes of transit going up, everything else requires walking and climbing steps. This made travel particular difficult especially for those unfit. You have to be prepared to get your heart racing to make it up the mountain.
Tateyama is one of Japan's Three Sacred Mountains. It has been worshiped since ancient times. Had great weather and the view at the top was terrific.
Not a very special or beautiful mountain range. Snow wall is just a photo spot for you to post on IG or FB. There are man made structures everywhere. The tourist trip ticket (bus and cable car) is super expensive. Food choice is limited up in the mountain although the quality is fine as you can expect elsewhere in Japan. I'm not very sure if my trip was about culture or history or just the view. It's a mixture of many things but it's "just like that"

The trail was quite steep, which made it challenging at times, but there were plenty of signs along the way that helped guide.it was a rewarding experience, and the views from the top were incredible!
It is so good to walk around and have a look at the mountain shrine, Oyama Shrine Mine Headquarters, to pray for happiness, good fortune and good health, which is one of the three historical sacred mountains in Japan (Mt. Fuji, Mt. Hakusan and this mountain Mt. Oyama). 700 yen per person to reach the summit of Mt. Oyama and undergo a purification rite
Went there mid-June. The view is absolutely stunning if clouds don't cover scenery. If you plan to hike there this time around prepare to walk in snow for the first hour of the ascent. After that there's no longer snow but ascent is fairly steep. All facilities at the top were closed at this time of year so bring your own water and such.
The spot is awesome. You feel like you are speaking to the clouds. The feeling of being at the top is awesome.
To those with experience in the mountains, it will be easy. To those that have no experience, it will be a bit challenging but if you take your time the view is worth it!
Very crowded but it's a holy place.
A nice climb. Takes around 2.5 hours, but it's well worth it!

I like the way Google in English references it as a Motorway Service Centre... it's a terminal for the bus from Bijodaira. At this point you can continue your way by trolley bus threw the mountain and on the Alpine Route or do some hiking. The facilities at the station are fine and it has an attached conservation centre exhibition. After walking the tracks you can check the identification of what you saw. Very helpful staff. Pictures of the birds seen on the track, Rock Ptarmigan and Alpine Accentor, conservation information centre attached plus the station.
You can see snow in hete
Came here on May, it was a rainy day so the visitors have to wait the snow walk to opened. As an information center, the place was equipped with an interesting exhibition center. There were diorama and audio visual to describe the ecosystem which lives in Tateyama. There were restaurant (just choose and pay the food on vending machine), coin locker and toilets on the building. And yes, there're souvenir shop inside where you can have Murodo souvenir, Japanese mochi, or a cake with a Tateyama Mount craved on it, equipped with the height of each place #amazingjapan
It is worth visiting this traditional village with maintained old Japanese style houses and shops. It has long history in 4th century that the geishas served the most prominent figures in these kingdom and this place was well-known to show the power of them
Very nice place. If you see the birds while hiking and take a picture and show it here, they give you a bird sticker.

Murodo Plateau is located at the summit of Mount Tateyama, boasting beautiful mountain ranges and incredibly picturesque scenery. There are plenty of tourists enjoying the views, and at some popular photo spots, queues are to be expected.
Simply amazing, am still wondering how they cut through the snow to form the wall. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong day to go and there was a blizzard. So visitors were not allowed to venture out. So near, yet so far as the wall is right in front but couldn't walk to it.
too beautiful, you will spend quite some time here at murodo
A nice wintertime adventure awaits you here. Lay in the snow, walk between walls of ice and enjoy some spectacular views. We went with lots of warm clothing but the sun was bright and a warm jacket and scarf were more than enough. Keep aside an entire day for this experience.
Good hotel with great local view points’ activities and services, but too expensive considering the facilities are quite not up-to-date.
This is the must visit place in the alpine route with breathtaking views of Japan alps. The land is covered with tons of snow during Winter and Spring. If you plan to visit the alpine route in April to June and trek on this place, don't forget to prepare yourself about costumes especially for shoes. It should be snow-proof one. During walking, please walk slowly and be concentrated with your every step on snow to avoid falling or slipping.
I had been there two days after opening. service schedule was two hours behind and didn't get board until 2 pm. I got rushed to ride from one end to the other end without getting off for sightseeing. When the bus arrived at this station, I were not allowed to get out at all, only ran up to the observation deck for a glimpse and then ran for the bus onward. Spending always $200 (fare + luggage forward) only put me in chaotic mess of rush. I do not suggest going.
Was here during 3rd week Nov and it was already thick with snow. Temp was -11deg. The lake was completely frozen but the walk in the snow was an awesome experience. An amazing experience for children here. Murodo is a ideal place to experience snow during autumn.

Nice museum to visit before and after exploring Tateyama-Kurobe alpen route. You can learn much about Tateyama area, such as wild life, botany, geology, traditional culture. You can see some part of the museum for free, and if you are students, you can go entire part of the museum. Outside the museum, there are some rail and trolley train, which is still used for soil erosion control works.
Nice museum in Tatyama if you go there you can more knowledge of Tateyama.
It is nice place. It also has a good toilet.
Very good museum, well worth visiting. A short walk from the station, easy to find with very friendly staff. Extremely informative & entertaining providing a good historical & geographical view of the area
Wonderful place to witness the Japanese technology against the natural disasters.
Nice place for wanderers before the journey to Tate mt.

Not really a hanging cable car, but running on rails. It seems rather powerful to pull two fully loaded cars up such a steep incline (> HK). As it leaves almost every half hourly, It fitted quite a large queue of people with some standing as all the seats were taken up (standing is allowed as it is very stable on rails) There is no scenery as it is all inside a tunnel at 1455m high, much like Disneyland / underground mine ride. The incline can be up to 30deg so its so steep that the 'walkway' inside the cars are high steps, so not so suitable for wheelchairs :P There's are toilets, cafe and dining at Kurobedaira station to enjoy at 1828m! Hi
Quite a fun experience. Seamless transition between other modes of transport and a remarkable feat of engineering. Would be hard to do if any mobility issues with navigating steep staircases up and down.
(Translated by Google) Further up from Lake Kurobe This is a tunnel There's no view though Will it run at this angle? I was surprised wait on the stairs Slide to the side to get on board Because we passed each other on the way There was a place where there were two lanes. There is no scenery as you go through the tunnel, but when you use Kurobe Lake Station, you feel a sense of excitement like in an RPG because it is a station inside a cave. At Kurobe Lake, you can check the availability of Hotel Tateyama for the day. What would you do if you wanted to stay there that day and there was no availability? I wondered (lol). Just like Kurobe Dam, I thought that the people of the Showa era who dug the tunnel for the station, dug a steep tunnel for the cable car, and brought the cable car were truly great. It felt like the pinnacle of guts and spirit, which are now considered taboo. (Of course, there is probably more to it than that...) Anyway, I think it is thanks to the great work of our predecessors that we are able to travel like this today.

It was better to stand at the front and back to enjoy the scenery. (Original) 搭乘時間不長,但是車廂過份擁擠,小小車廂要擠80人,實在沒有旅遊的感覺,座位也狹窄,還不如站在前後側可以看看風景。
