Points of Interest & Landmarks
Nestled in the breathtaking Toyama Prefecture, Kurobe Dam stands as a monumental feat of engineering and natural beauty. Completed in 1964 after seven years of construction, this impressive structure reaches a towering height of 186 meters, making it Japan's tallest dam. Spanning an impressive width of 492 meters, it effectively harnesses the spring runoff from the Northern Japanese Alps along the Kurobe River.
The dam is damned humongous!!! What a damn dam!! It would most likely be super stunning during summertime. I went during winter season when the spillways don’t operate but I heard they open the spillways to shore to the tourists during the summer season <3
Helena W — Google review
It is a beautiful and magnificent as it can be! It was built at 61 years ago according to our. Tours guide. And 171 people were lost during the construction! The lights rain on the day of our visit did not affect its beauty. The dam and the lake really made this place magical! All four seasons will give this place a different and unique face, so it is worth of coming back sometime! We also saw a performance in front of gift shot even is raining! What a fantastic performance!
Steven C — Google review
Absolutely magnificent! 🍂 Visiting Kurobe Dam in October was unforgettable, the earthy autumn colors, the rainbow terrace, and the scenic views all along the route were stunning. Also as always, Japan is so thoughtful in accommodating tourists, combining the nature and how they made it easy for all people to hike, even though it’s a short uphill hike from the station to the top, the views make it more than worth it. Every step of the trip was memorable, with breathtaking scenery everywhere ✨✨✨
Dinisa A — Google review
An impressive feat of engineering. They give you around 16 min to transfer from the Kanden electric bus to the cable car. Walking from the bus across the dam takes around 10 min at a brisk pace. However you might want to slow down and look around, it's beautiful. We however opted to slow down for the return journey to maximise up in Murodo. On the way back, there is a 40 min gap between the cable car and bus transfer back in the afternoon so time to enjoy the dam then.
Carla C — Google review
From Murodo I took the tunnel electric bus, ropeway and cable car to arrive at the Kurobe dam at 12:06 pm. It’s a beautiful sunny day in September. The views are impressive.
Alicia H — Google review
On my way to Morodo i was wondering why would i even stop to see a dam, but once you arrive there you understand why. There's also an observation deck on the opposite side to e joy the view even more. One of the highlight of the the whole Kurobe alpine route
Andrea R — Google review
A magnificent location that shows the courage, determination and resourcefulness of Japanese people. Nature blends in extremely well with man-made structure here.

I visited on August 9, 2025, and was lucky to see a rainbow on the water under the dam. It was absolutely incredible

Scenic Walking Areas
Nestled in the breathtaking Northern Alps, Yuki no Ōtani is a stunning natural wonder that captivates visitors with its towering snow walls. This scenic route, accessible via bus tours and cable car rides, offers an unforgettable experience at an elevation of 2450 meters. Be prepared for unpredictable weather; early season temperatures can plunge below freezing during the day.
Such a splendid sight! The max height of the snow walls changes from year to year depending on snowfall. They open on April 15th, I recommend going as early as possible before the snow melts too much. Recommend to buy the Alpen route tickets in advance on their website. They go on sale about a month before opening and sell out super quickly! Don’t worry if you didn’t get a web ticket, you can also buy on the day at the different see m stations along the way (Toyama, Tateyama, etc.) they keep a lot of tickets closed for online sale so it’s almost always possible to get a ticket on the day too. The queue to the ticket booths can be long in the mornings though. There were a lot and i mean A LOT of people during the operational hours. Don’t be fooled by my pictures, I managed to go before the opening hours through a shuttle from the lodge I was staying at. If you want to experience the full Serene and blissful wonder of the snow walls, I recommend staying overnight too. Although if you don’t mind the people, it would make for a good one day trip.
Helena W — Google review
When we visited in Mid-May 2025, the snow was not as high as few years ago but still in very impressive amount of 16 meters! If possible, do arrive as early as possible because it will be very crewed by 11:00AM. We stayed one night at 彌陀之原, so it was not as many people at the time when we arrived. There are two parts of snow wall you can explore, the narrower one is for the people to walk, the larger and higher one is for buses to use! The 16 meters one is the largest of the two! It is a once in a lifetime experience. Do come if God permits!
Steven C — Google review
Amazing view. Don't forget to bring a real pair of dark sunglasses, that's hurt after a day in white! I was with an organised tour trip, otherwise it might be complicated to plan a whole day from the bottom to the top. Was on 21/04/2025, highest point was 16m, amazing!!! Thanks to the people who work under this extreme condition.
Shanice C — Google review
Very happy to be able to make it to this specular snow corridor. We visit from Nagano to Ogizawa. The wait was not long on a weekday. The drive up was equally stunning with views of the mountain sakura.
Aiza A — Google review
I came here when it was rainy and foggy, but still a nice view. The whole Japan's Alpine tour is a great experience.
Nolianto A — Google review
Tourist must come. This place is very gorgeous and it has a lot of snows and it is easy to do skiing in this park and you take a bus from fu Shan to here it takes around 1 hour to get to this location
Marcus P — Google review
May 23rd Still 15meters high wall. It can get crowded obviously, but it's a must visit place in Japan for a reason
Andrea R — Google review
Way too many tourist. Tour groups literally bring their customers up to murodo just for the snow wall. Very disappointed at the walking distance of the snow wall as it was shorter than expected. As of late May, the snow wall has melted to 11m. If you come up to murodo just for the snow wall, suggest you coming up earlier when they just opened. The walk only starts from 930-1500.

Murodo is a breathtaking destination nestled at an impressive altitude of 2,450 meters above sea level, making it the highest point accessible by vehicle in Japan. To reach this stunning area, visitors can hop on the Tateyama Trolley Bus from Daikanbo, which glides through a tunnel beneath the majestic Tateyama Mountain Range.
I arrived here at the end of summer (mid September) and this area was one of the most beautiful places I got to see in Japan! I strongly recommend to give yourself about 2-4 hours to explore the area. On the weekend this place is packed with people, but it is still worth the views. All the paths I used were very well paved and marked, and were not much challenging.

Mountains
Mount Tate, also known as Tateyama, is a breathtaking destination nestled in Japan's Kita Alps and holds a revered place in Japanese tradition as one of the country's three sacred mountains. This stunning peak is famous for its cobalt-blue onsen waters and offers visitors an unforgettable experience along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Here, you can marvel at the impressive Snow Corridor and explore picturesque spots like Mikuriga-ike Pond and Shomyo Falls.
24/08/14 it was a cloudy day, mountains were covered in clouds , the temperature was between 10-12 degrees, if you got sports shoes with good grips you can climb this 3015m high mountain; but hiking shoes are recommended. We could still able to see some spots still covered in snow thats rare to see in this hot summer.
Sangamesh G — Google review
You can’t get better view of this. Highly recommend a visit in April and early May. Stunning view of the snow and the sky.
Jerry Y — Google review
Breathtaking scenery! beautiful mountains. I went there summer 2025, there are some snow on the top of the mountain and u can touch/step on it along the pathway. The local preserves like 80% of the field and prohibits access for visitors to step on the grass. Which is great! clean and beautiful with flowers amongst the meadow. There is stepping stone pathways around the field to visit the lake, another restaurant, and other sightseeing spot.
Fernanda G — Google review
We have a tough time one day 1 climbing. Day 2 we had the best view. Check the weather before heading here. Have extra days if possible, great difference of having rainy, cloudy vs clear sunny. All the best to u and have fun! Onsen is great here.
Kevin Y — Google review
Definitely worth the 2-hour public transportation transfers to be here! Great view, nice and easy hike, and the weather is so cool when the city is terribly hot. Wish I could do a mountain peak hike next time. Make sure you book the tickets in advance!!
Jason J — Google review
Mount Tateyama is something to behold. It took 4 different variations of travel in order to climb from the bottom to the very top! Each stop providing something fun to look at and sights to see. It was breathtaking to see the expansive forests, fields, mountains, and rivers. If you love nature, this is one of the largest minimally touches areas in Japan to visit. Besides some roads, an onsen, and transit stops, there is nothing but nature for Miles around. I highly recommend a visit with an astrix. That being the amount of steps I had to take and the amount of walking, Besides the modes of transit going up, everything else requires walking and climbing steps. This made travel particular difficult especially for those unfit. You have to be prepared to get your heart racing to make it up the mountain.
Stash P — Google review
Tateyama is one of Japan's Three Sacred Mountains. It has been worshiped since ancient times. Had great weather and the view at the top was terrific.
CK C — Google review
Not a very special or beautiful mountain range. Snow wall is just a photo spot for you to post on IG or FB. There are man made structures everywhere. The tourist trip ticket (bus and cable car) is super expensive. Food choice is limited up in the mountain although the quality is fine as you can expect elsewhere in Japan. I'm not very sure if my trip was about culture or history or just the view. It's a mixture of many things but it's "just like that"

Lookouts
Murodo-daira is a popular destination in Japan, known for its stunning snow corridor and picturesque Mikuriga-ike Pond. It's advisable to visit early to avoid crowds and fully enjoy the breathtaking views. The area offers opportunities for trekking, but visitors should be well-prepared with winter gear due to deep snow. Additionally, the North Face shop at the station provides reasonably priced high-quality trekking gear.
Murodo Plateau is located at the summit of Mount Tateyama, boasting beautiful mountain ranges and incredibly picturesque scenery. There are plenty of tourists enjoying the views, and at some popular photo spots, queues are to be expected.
Perri — Google review
Simply amazing, am still wondering how they cut through the snow to form the wall. Unfortunately, we chose the wrong day to go and there was a blizzard. So visitors were not allowed to venture out. So near, yet so far as the wall is right in front but couldn't walk to it.
Cindy C — Google review
too beautiful, you will spend quite some time here at murodo
H — Google review
A nice wintertime adventure awaits you here. Lay in the snow, walk between walls of ice and enjoy some spectacular views. We went with lots of warm clothing but the sun was bright and a warm jacket and scarf were more than enough. Keep aside an entire day for this experience.
Smita K — Google review
Good hotel with great local view points’ activities and services, but too expensive considering the facilities are quite not up-to-date.
Michael J — Google review
This is the must visit place in the alpine route with breathtaking views of Japan alps. The land is covered with tons of snow during Winter and Spring. If you plan to visit the alpine route in April to June and trek on this place, don't forget to prepare yourself about costumes especially for shoes. It should be snow-proof one. During walking, please walk slowly and be concentrated with your every step on snow to avoid falling or slipping.
Monkey B — Google review
I had been there two days after opening. service schedule was two hours behind and didn't get board until 2 pm. I got rushed to ride from one end to the other end without getting off for sightseeing. When the bus arrived at this station, I were not allowed to get out at all, only ran up to the observation deck for a glimpse and then ran for the bus onward. Spending always $200 (fare + luggage forward) only put me in chaotic mess of rush. I do not suggest going.
Chit L — Google review
Was here during 3rd week Nov and it was already thick with snow. Temp was -11deg. The lake was completely frozen but the walk in the snow was an awesome experience. An amazing experience for children here. Murodo is a ideal place to experience snow during autumn.

Visitors can explore an array of informative exhibits that simplify complex concepts like erosion control in this breathtaking caldera area.
Nice museum to visit before and after exploring Tateyama-Kurobe alpen route. You can learn much about Tateyama area, such as wild life, botany, geology, traditional culture. You can see some part of the museum for free, and if you are students, you can go entire part of the museum. This is the start of Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. Interesting train ride from a small and busy station
CK C — Google review
This service is unorganized and uncooperative. Tickets were not cancelled due to the road conditions, rather letting people to wait for hours and pack them onto the car. Tickets are timed. You can’t get on until the previous time ticket holders are on the car. That is two hours of wait. If your luggage is already shipped to the other end, they can’t help at all. No information are given regarding the situation nor any one to help. Too many tickets are sold because the car is packed with no standing room left.

This is located in Tateyama, and is in one of the National Parks in Japan. Simply breathtaking scenery. Also, you may recognize it as one of the locations from the anime “Wolf Children”. It’s probably best to join a tour group if you don’t speak Japanese, as I can be a bit complicated to get here. It is only accessible via bus transfers, cable car transfers, and electric bus transfers. Well worth the visit, as you will be reborn when you come here. INTERESTING FACT: - The electric bus is the only one like it in Japan, and is actually classified as a “non-rail railway”!

After a day exploring nearby attractions like the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route or the Toyama Glass Art Museum, unwind in their tranquil pools or indulge in unique features such as electro-shock therapy chairs for ultimate relaxation.
Not only was the baths, indoor and outdoor, extremely relaxing, but they had chairs in some of the pools which delivered a sort of electro-shock therapy. I haven't felt so loose and relaxed in forever. Must visit!

The best onsen in town. Male and Female bath are changed alternatively. You will love the view and variety of bath to choose from. For those who just finished trekking Tateyama, you can take the train to here only 3 stations away.

This place is so nice. I've been here twice, and I plan on returning again. I really enjoy one of their seasonal flavored soft ice cream cones after some time in the baths. The onsen is also conveniently close to the Fujikoshi Dentetsu Station.

Great place, but I don't think they get many foreigners. Every bath I went into I ended up getting someone who wanted to chat. That's ok for some, but I was naked and just wanted to relax so it sort of spoiled it. Very nice bath though. Didn't try the food.

Nestled in the serene landscape of Tateyama Town, Oyama Shrine is a spiritual haven dedicated to the deity Tateyama, one of Japan's revered sacred mountains. This shrine complex features three distinct sites: the Mine Head Office perched atop Mt. Tateyama, the Chugu Prayer Hall at Ashikura Temple's base, and Iwakura Temple’s front shrine near the plains. The deities honored here are Izanagi-kami and Amante Rikio-kami.

(Translated by Google) Former country company. Oyama Shrine consists of three shrines, and this is the Chugu Prayer Hall. It is enshrined on the mountain on the east side of the Maedateshadan. There is a parking lot on the left side of the torii gate, but the number of parking spaces is quite small compared to Maetateshadan. The photo is from June 1st. Although there aren't that many around here, I was a little nervous because Asiatic black bears have been seen. I came to the shrine equipped with a bear bell for peace of mind. As expected, we didn't encounter any bears, but we were surprised when four monkeys suddenly crossed the road just outside the shrine. The precincts are spacious and surrounded by rich nature. While I was talking with the person at the shrine, he introduced me to the Toyama Prefectural Tateyama Museum, which is located in the surrounding area, as I was from another prefecture. Basically, I would like to visit all of the shrines that are made up of multiple shrines, but since the main shrine of Oyama Shrine is located at an altitude of 3003 meters, I decided not to do so as I thought it would be reckless for me as I have no physical strength or mountain climbing experience. If you approach it lightly, you may lose your life. Even if you are physically fit, there are concerns about altitude sickness, and it takes a considerable amount of time to climb the shrine. If you are going to Mine Headquarters, please consider your physical condition, equipment, time, and weather and do not overdo it. (Translated by Google) Oyama Shrine is the collective name for three shrines: Inine Head Office located at the summit of Mt. Oyama, Chugu Prayer Hall at Ashikura Temple along the Joganji River that originates from Tateyama, and Maetateshadan at Iwakura Temple further downstream from Ashikura Temple. The place names Ashikura-ji and Iwakura-ji are remnants of the time when Shinto and Buddhism were syncretized. Each of the three shrines has important religious value, so it is said that you will receive the same blessings no matter which one you visit. However, even if it is a bit inconvenient, the main building is less than 10 minutes walk from the station, and the main building has been designated as a national important cultural property. Compared to the Maedateshadan, which is located in front of the shrine, it is somewhat unsatisfactory. The nearest station is Chigaki Station on the Toyama Regional Railway, but from there you have to walk 30 minutes or take a bus that runs infrequently (and is closed on Sundays), so access is far from convenient. However, the cedar trees that line both sides of the approach and the lush moss that has been encouraged to grow in the humid climate create a solemn atmosphere befitting an ancient sacred place. I skipped it due to my itinerary, but there is a Tateyama Museum next door whose main exhibition theme is the Tateyama faith, so I think you'll be more satisfied if you visit it at the same time. The Toyama City Hall observation tower offers a free elevator ride up to 70 meters above sea level, providing panoramic views of the city and, on clear days, the stunning Tateyama Mountain Range. Visitors can park in the underground lot and receive a stamp for free parking when visiting the rooftop deck. The location is ideal for enjoying views of the alps and city, especially during cherry blossom season when rows of Sakura trees line the nearby river.
The city hall observation tower is definitely worth a visit. Take the special elevator to the top, where you can enjoy a breathtaking, panoramic view of the entire city. I absolutely loved it!

Consider it's free to entery, it's a great place to view the city on a lovely day. We were lucky with the weather, and it was a short wait for the lift going to the observation floor also. Perhaps not many know about it, so it wasn't crowded at all. Since the observation floor isn't that big, a good 10 minute visit would be enough. Right in front of the building, there is a river with cherry blossom tress on both sides, perfect for the camera. We actually spent more time taking photos downstairs.

Easy access. Tower has 360 view of Toyama. The view tower is enclosed, so not affected by weather. On the flip side, one also do not get the enjoyment of sights and sound of the city at night. Too insulated. Night view is nice but also marred by the well lit interior, which is a huge distraction. Would return during day to get another view. Day is definitely better. A/C on. No light distractions.

Nestled within the serene cedar-clad mountains of Toyama Prefecture, Shōmyō Waterfall stands as Japan's tallest waterfall, cascading an impressive 350 meters. This natural wonder offers visitors a breathtaking view from a nearby bridge, where on sunny days, you might even catch sight of stunning rainbows formed by the mist. The experience is further enhanced by the refreshing spray that envelops you as you approach this majestic site.
We came across this spot when our Airbnb host suggested it after we canceled the alpine route tour due to bad weather forecast from the afternoon. We visited here in late October so there wasn’t as much water as in spring and I would certainly love to see all three waterfalls. We were on the first visitors to the site early in the morning and it was lovely to be able to take pics and enjoy the beautiful view without the crowds. But the sun wasn’t quite in the called yet and the angle of the sun also limited us from taking shots from certain angles. Maybe next time I will try midday or early afternoon. It is just a short walk and refreshing walk from the parking lot to the falls along an asphalt road and we saw many elderly and children walking the route too. The waterfall itself is huge and you can feel the spray on your face from the look out point. It really is beautiful and something I recommend if you are in the area of the alpine route as it’s just up the road.

It is a great walk along the well-maintained path to the large waterfall "Shomiyou waterfalls". From the website; Shomyo Fall, one of the most unexplored spots in Toyama Prefecture, has the highest drop in Japan. The waterfall has a drop of 350 meters! The dynamic sight of the water splashing down is a sight to behold. It is a nationally designated scenic beauty and natural monument, and one of the 100 best waterfalls in Japan, It has also been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful waterfalls in Japan and one of the 100 most beautiful soundscapes in Japan. Another attraction of this area is that you can enjoy a different atmosphere each season. In spring, the valley is still covered with lingering snow, and much of the melted snow from the Tateyama Mountain Range flows into the valley, Alder Falls" appears on the right side of Shomyo Falls, and two waterfalls cascade down. A rare sight of waterfalls cascading in a V-shape can be seen here. When the water volume increases from spring to summer, Shomyo Falls overflows with great force, The spray from the waterfall basin resembles the release of water from a dam! In the fall, the valley turns red and yellow, and the contrast between the richly colored leaves and the white waterfall creates a fantastic atmosphere. About 1 km walk from the parking to the foot of the falls. Nice retreat away from the city. Just 1 hour from Toyama Airport. The day we went was sunny and cool and comfy. Shomyo Falls has water all year round and it is the highest falls in Japan with 350 m height. When we came early June, the Hannoki Falls has water and with 500 m height, it is the highest falls inJapan at the time (only when it has water;)

Nestled within the stunning landscapes of Japan, Jigokudani Valley is a captivating destination characterized by its stark and desolate beauty. This unique valley is known for its active volcanic activity, where sulfurous gases continuously rise from the earth, creating an otherworldly atmosphere. Although it may not rival Hakone's Owakudani in size, Jigokudani offers breathtaking views that include the majestic Tateyama peaks and distant vistas of Toyama Bay and the Noto Peninsula.

As soon as you step inside, white steam erupts vigorously from all over the rock face, and the smell of sulfur hits your nose. The roaring fumaroles and the steam-soaked promenade are proof that the earth is alive. Even as a seasoned traveler, I was thrilled to experience the energy of volcanic activity up close. The contrast between the clear blue of Mikurigaike Pond and the wild white steam of Jigokudani highlighted the profound depths of Tateyama's nature, leaving me with an impression that cannot be obtained through mere sightseeing. The Kurobe cable car is a unique mode of transportation that takes passengers from Kurobeko Station to Kurobedaira Station in just five minutes. The journey offers no outside views as it travels through tunnels, but standing at the front or back of the car allows for a thrilling experience as it ascends steep slopes of up to 31 degrees.
Not really a hanging cable car, but running on rails. It seems rather powerful to pull two fully loaded cars up such a steep incline (> HK). As it leaves almost every half hourly, It fitted quite a large queue of people with some standing as all the seats were taken up (standing is allowed as it is very stable on rails) There is no scenery as it is all inside a tunnel at 1455m high, much like Disneyland / underground mine ride. The incline can be up to 30deg so its so steep that the 'walkway' inside the cars are high steps, so not so suitable for wheelchairs :P There's are toilets, cafe and dining at Kurobedaira station to enjoy at 1828m! Tateyama Nature Conservation Center is a hub for travelers on the Alpine Route, serving as a terminal for buses from Bijodaira. Visitors can continue their journey by trolley bus through the mountains or embark on hiking adventures. The center features an exhibition showcasing the local ecosystem, complete with dioramas and audiovisual presentations. Despite being equipped with facilities like a restaurant, coin lockers, and toilets, its main draw is the opportunity to learn about Tateyama's diverse wildlife and landscapes.
I like the way Google in English references it as a Motorway Service Centre... it's a terminal for the bus from Bijodaira. At this point you can continue your way by trolley bus threw the mountain and on the Alpine Route or do some hiking. The facilities at the station are fine and it has an attached conservation centre exhibition. After walking the tracks you can check the identification of what you saw. Very helpful staff. Apparently people come here on dog day to pray for safe deliveries... Also, I left my bag here, and the staff returned it to me, were very nice about it, and shared in my relief that I had found it! Very sweet of them. Definitely a hightlight of my Toyama trip. The shrine itself was beautiful, and there were lots of lovely statues.

We definitely recommend bus or car for access. It is clear that this building was built around 1827. There are few Gassho-zukuri buildings with a clear construction date, and in that sense it is said to be a valuable building. It is said that several dozen people lived in this mansion until the Meiji period, and its size is comparable to the Wada family and Kanda family in Shirakawa-go. However, there were fewer tourists here, so I was able to take a more leisurely look around. The scent of the hearth that leaked out onto the street was impressive. By the way, Miboro Dam is 2 km from here and about 30 minutes on foot. P.S. I found a silver halide photo taken in 1987, so I added it.

Daikanbo is a breathtaking mountain deck perched atop a view of a large dam, connected by the Tateyama Ropeway, which offers an incredible 360-degree dynamic panorama. The ropeway is the longest single span in Japan without supporting pylons and provides stunning views during its seven-minute ride. Daikanbo observation deck at the end of the ropeway offers spectacular scenes of autumn foliage and overlooks one of only three glaciers in Japan.
This is our number destination in Japan!! Totally worth it!! We traveled on 19 Nov and arrive at the top 12.20 PM. Prepare your shoes for the snow at this time. Sun glasses are a must!! Be sure to pack your lunch as there was only one shop selling hot Soba here.

Mt. Bessan, located in the Tateyama Mountain Range, is a rocky peak offering hiking opportunities and featuring a Shinto shrine and a lake near its summit. However, chain spikes are a lifeline 🏔️ ⚠️Cautions and advice - The steep climb up the snowfield is quite dangerous💦 There is a steep climb traversing the snowfield in the middle of the route, so chain spikes are a must. There is a high risk of falling, so it is not recommended to pass through without crampons. - There is also a risk of getting lost💦 The route is easily unclear on the snowfield, and there is a risk of getting lost if visibility is poor. Be sure to carry a GPS app or map. 🚶‍♂️Climbing date and route Climbed on July 8, 2025 I used the round trip route from Murodo!! 📍What is Oku-Dainichi-dake? A peak located south of the Tateyama mountain range, with an altitude of 2,611m. It is possible to do a day trip from Murodo, but proper climbing equipment is required. The ridgeline where you can walk with the spectacular view of Tsurugi-dake behind you is attractive. A spectacular route that is never crowded. I was impressed by the encounter with a ptarmigan and the small number of climbers. You need to be careful on the steep snowy slope, but once you get over it, the sense of accomplishment and the view are exceptional. If you prepare well, it will definitely be a memorable mountain climb. Water information is very important for safe mountain climbing, so keep it in mind! Kumaou's Shimizu Kumaou no Shimizu is located right next to the Tateyama Station rotary. Another feature of this water is that it can be drawn freely. Even in the summer, the water is cool and can be used to cool your hands or drink water. Raichozawa Campsite At Raichozawa Campsite, there is a faucet in the restroom in the building where the tent reception is located, and a faucet inside the tent site, both of which draw water from the same source. Information online states that the water needs to be sterilized by boiling, but when I checked with the campsite reception staff, it seems that the staff are drinking the water as is. It's written that way because on rare occasions, it can cause stomach upset for some people. This is the last water supply point for Dainichi Hut, so we also collected water here. *Notes You will soon reach the ridgeline area. When taking a short break at Raichozawa Campsite, be sure to protect yourself from UV rays with UV cream. Many members of the club love Biore Athlism. Oku-Dainichi that was actually climbed We will introduce the mountain climbing plan and course that we actually climbed. The parking lot at Tateyama Station is crowded, so we recommend arriving early! The parking lot closest to Tateyama Station was full at 21:30. The area away from the station was still empty. I started taking a nap at 22:00 and started lining up at the bus ticket office at 3:00. We were the fourth from the front, but the three people in front of us had lined up earlier. There were many customers who purchased advance web tickets, so there were two flights at 6:50. The first flight departs at 6:40. By the way, ticket sales start at 6:10. It's a long day until the morning, so a folding chair is a must! When ticket sales begin, you can receive a postcard by presenting your Montbell card♪ Purchase a ticket here and take the cable car/bus to Tateyama Station. Sitting on the left side gives you a better view of the scenery. This time I was in the right row, so I gracefully looked at the back of my head as I headed towards Murodo Terminal. The charm of Dainichi Koya First of all, we had a delicious dinner, with free refills of rice and miso soup. Even if you don't have an appetite, make sure to fill your stomach to have energy for tomorrow. Dainichi hut is a hut with such an atmosphere that it is also known as the lamp hut. The unique atmosphere illuminated by the light of the lamps will soothe your soul. And when I left the hut, the longed-for Mt. Tsurugidake was right in front of me! The next day, you can see the sunrise from the nearby summit of Mt. Dainichi, and you can see both Morgenroth and Abendroth from here as well. This is the real pleasure of staying in a mountain hut. You can enjoy watching the Tsurugi floating in the sea of clouds and the Tsurugi dyed in the sunset over and over again from the hut and the top of Mt. Dainichi. Unlike the Raichosawa area, which has abundant water sources, water at Dainichi Hut is very precious. There are faucets in the washroom and washroom, but please use them carefully. It's a long walk to the water point, so if you're worried, it's a must to purchase water. You can purchase 2 liters for 1000 yen.

You can also enjoy the flower garden. The large clumps of Hakusan ichige on the trail from Jodosawa to Murodo-Nokoshi are spectacular, and as you walk along the pleasant ridgeline to Shin-Murodo-Nokoshi, you can see Mt. Tsurugidake. There seems to be a lot of snow left this year, so even as of July 2nd, it was impossible without heavy crampons and an ice ax. Around mid-July, there shouldn't be any need to expect lingering snow on the summer roads in the Tateyama Mountains, but there was a lot of snow and it was early July, so it seemed like we had to assume it was still a bit of a spring mountain. A long time ago, when I climbed Mt. Tsurugidake's Hayatsuki Ridge in the middle of winter, on a clear day I could clearly see a huge snow eave jutting out from the ridgeline of Dainichi and Oku-Dainichi, and I was told that it was the ``best snow eave in Japan.'' It is true that I wanted to come when there was still snow on the ridgeline, but the route was filled with endless traverses through snowy valleys, and the bridge over Raichozawa had not yet been built, making unnecessary detours, crossings, and pathfinding difficult. On the way up, we were climbing directly into a snowy valley, and a couple who looked like they were from the silver generation, wearing summer mountain gear, was unable to climb the mountain and fell down, but we were also without crampons, so we couldn't help them. (I was worried because it disappeared from view on the way, but I think it's okay because the slope becomes gentler once you get down the steep part.) A while after passing Shinmurodo Norikoshi, a person who came down the mountain told me that there was a difficult part to traverse ahead of him, so I went with him and found that there was a route that involved traversing a very steep cliff part. The three of us exchanged various opinions with another person who came later, but we came to the conclusion that it would be impossible without snow mountain equipment, so we regretfully retreated. I thought I would see people coming down the mountain in the morning, but it seemed like everyone had retreated. Well, I was able to take some beautiful photos, so that's good. I will come again soon. In years when there was a lot of snow, it was assumed that it would be a spring mountain even in early July. Please pay close attention to information on remaining snow in early summer. 2023/7 I've been here before...I remembered it at the top of the mountain. If there is a summer road, there is not much difference in elevation and there are not many steep climbs, so you can walk easily. On the way back, there was a young female ptarmigan. It's only about the size of a pigeon, and there isn't much redness above the eyes. It seems that the number of ptarmigans is decreasing considerably, so I hope they grow well.

So, I decided to climb Mt. Oku-Dainichi to see Murododaira from the other side. You can also see Mt. Tsurugidake clearly. When I first reached the ridgeline, I was only aware of Mt. Tsurugidake as a bonus, but as I walked, its presence gradually increased. Although it is quite far away, you can clearly see how it is formed by rugged, rough rock ridges and deeply carved valleys. It was so powerful that before I knew it, Tsurugi became the main character (^^;; A female climber I passed on the way up said to me, ``The view at the top is spectacular. Good luck!'' The summit was a truly spectacular view of Mt. Tsurugidake and Mt. Tateyama at the same time. The mountain trail is in a corner of the Northern Alps, so it was well maintained, but there were some places where it was difficult to walk or dangerous, such as a series of unstable scree fields and a mountain trail that had collapsed. However, the hardest part was climbing back up the stairs from Raichozawa at the end. The last restroom is at Raichozawa campsite. (Translated by Google) First visit in August 2025. I've been visiting the Shogawa area frequently for nearly 30 years, but I had no idea this suspension bridge existed. It's located right off the national highway, but it's hard to see from the highway. So, I recently came across information about this suspension bridge on Google Maps, and that's how I first learned about it. I took the opportunity to visit. The iron suspension bridge is very impressive, and stands quite high above the river, offering great thrills and views. However, there's nothing beyond the bridge! Beyond the bridge, all you see is a deep mountain forest. There is what appears to be a trail leading into the forest, but it looks like it's on the verge of being abandoned, covered in weeds, and gives off the feeling that a bear, boar, or deer might appear at any moment. Therefore, I don't think there are many people brave enough to venture down this trail into the depths of the forest. So, when I reached the end of the suspension bridge, there was nothing there—it even felt eerie, so I turned back immediately. Still, I was satisfied just to have been able to cross such a large, impressive suspension bridge. But even so, there was nothing beyond, and yet this impressive suspension bridge was there. What on earth was the purpose of this suspension bridge? It's a strange bridge, so well maintained and managed despite its unclear purpose. I was curious, so I looked it up later, and found out that the bridge was built as part of compensation for the construction of the Miboro Dam. There used to be a settlement in the area, and people traveled between both sides of the river, but the settlement was submerged after the dam was completed. However, charcoal huts and other workshops remained on the other side, so for a while there was a certain amount of traffic for those involved, but that has now disappeared. However, even though people no longer travel across the bridge, the suspension bridge actually serves another important role, so it seems ridiculous to question its purpose. Personally, I was a little worried that this suspension bridge, which only seems to be used by tourists and has no local demand, might eventually see budget cuts and end up like Takase Bridge, one of the famous landmarks of Owada Station on the JR Iida Line (although I'm not sure if it's still a landmark at Owada Station), but I'm relieved to hear that this won't be the case for the time being and that they will continue to maintain it. If you're passing through the area, it's definitely worth stopping by.

The sedimentary layers that were once the mouth of an river on the uplifted mountains have been exposed by the Shogawa River. Looking down at the river from the bridge, we could see schools of large river fish.

(Translated by Google) On the way from Gifu to Kanazawa, we came across a suspension bridge! As a suspension bridge lover, we had to cross it, so we parked the car and made a round trip. I thought it wouldn't be much fun since the metal plates block out the view below, but with just thin wires on both sides, it was still quite unsettling. My 5-year-old son said he wasn't scared at all because he couldn't see the ground! We saw a snake on the way to the bridge, so he was more scared of the snake than the bridge itself. (Translated by Google) Designed by architect Arata Isozaki. It was a nice building. I felt that the Nunohashi Kanjoe ceremony, a ritual for women who were unable to enter Mt. Tateyama, was expressed through the architecture. As I walked from Enmado through Nunobashi Bridge to Yobokan and looked out toward Mt. Tateyama in the distance after the screening, I felt like I had glimpsed the position and feelings of women at the time. In Japanese movie... two short films, one on faith, the other on the mountain and seasons. Downside sitting on a tatami mat, bit uncomfortable for us westerners. Can buy an all inclusive ticket.

(Translated by Google) People may have different tastes about the video works related to the Tateyama faith that are projected, but I think they are good for gaining knowledge that such faith and culture once existed. Also, I was a little concerned about the style, as it seemed to be out of step with the times since it was made 30 years ago. The final production is very good, and the location is wonderful. (Translated by Google) It is a beautiful building in the shape of an upside-down boat that was built right behind the site of the old Ubado building. I forget the name, but it seems that the architect put a lot of thought into the design. The videos you can see inside are so amazing that you can't believe they were filmed in the 90s, and there is also a detailed animation explaining the Tateyama faith, so you can enjoy Tateyama even more if you learn about it before climbing the mountain from Tateyama Station. Masu. It seems that at the end of the ritual for saving women, the doors of the Ubadō were opened to look up at Mt. Tateyama, and the view that the women saw from the Ubadō can still be seen from here.

(Translated by Google) Dorayaki reports. An anime about the Tateyama faith will be shown here. Personally, I think it is prohibited for children under 6 years old! ? The situation in hell is quite scary... However, I do understand the meaning of Tateyama faith, so I would like everyone to see it. Also, in the summer, you can use it as a place to cool down 🙂 (Original)

(Translated by Google) A facility for watching films about faith in Tateyama. The overall look is futuristic and cool. There is a large hall with three screens. In the center of the hall there is a large tatami platform the size of several dozen tatami mats, on which you take off your shoes, climb up and sit to watch. While waiting for the screening to start, I was alone with the unfamiliar old lady, which was quite awkward. The film was powerful and the sound was good. Some of the content is silly, but that can't be helped as this is a facility for children on field trips. There is a surprising twist at the end.
