The terrace upstairs is very pleasant but on one of the hottest days of the year sadly the parasols were all locked away in the corner. Our afternoon tea consisted of 3 finger sandwiches each, which were pleasant enough, a nice scone with jam and clotted cream, a mini macaroon a mini Victoria sponge cake (mini being a small mouthful) and a chocolate of our choice as well as a small brownie. After the afternoon tea was served we were left. No cutlery, no napkins, no service! That was it. We had to go to the til several times to ask for extra milk or top ups of tea and it was not busy at all. Really disappointing. To top it off we were then charged for the extra pot of tea. Great food for adults and kids, relaxed atmosphere and my little girl loves it. Since coming here my daughter has started to gain good restaurant manners, with it being a soft play cafe there hasn’t been pressure to keep her still and quiet whilst those skills have been learned. The soft play is fun and safe with a separate area for babies under 1 and a quiet area to read a book to them. The food is fresh and well presented, and as a vegan I am catered for too. It has without a doubt the best kids menu, they even have a weaning platter for babies on the journey of discovering food too. I’ll genuinely be sad when my daughter gets too old for this cafe. The site is a garden centre but the cafe is clearly signposted and there is a large parking area right outside! The cafe is inside a large polytunnel type structure which feels very sturdy and certainly kept the wind out! It is very nicely laid out, with block paved walking areas interspersed with gravelled areas set out with beautiful potted plants and shrubs. The tables are varied in size and were not set too close either :) Don’t be fooled by the sign offering coffee and desserts - they have a very nice menu with a good choice of savoury options including a very comprehensive all day breakfast menu! We each ordered a 3-egg omelette with a hot drink and it was great! Just a good size, with a nice crisp side salad, and a good slaw! Very happy with that! The hot puddings looked great, especially the homemade jam roll poly and custard, but we were nicely full so didn’t let ourselves be tempted!
