It may not appeal to many people but there is a lot of history in this place. I was passing on the way back from Big Pit museum and took a chance and clad I did. In it's day, it was a large working employing many men and there families processing local coal, limestone and iron ore to make iron and later steel. New processes were tried here. There is a small shop, a visual display of the casting process and audio and guidebooks to guide you round. You can see the changes in the work mens cottages and view the whole sight from the top of the balancing tower. The guidebook also tells of the industrial heritage off the site and the changes in the landscape including the viaduct buried in a valley that once had houses in its arches. Worth a look

On the first day of a two day visit, we looked at Caerphilly Castle (seriously recoomened). Then on day two, we came here. What an amazing contrast. Castle, lakes and knights verus blast furnaces, pig iron and toxic hell.

Absolutely amazing place to visit whatever the weather. A little bit of rain or a heavy shower just adds to the atmosphere of the place. The workers' cottages are restored with furnishings to show them through the centuries. The audio visual presentation in the shed brings the ironworks to life. A small, but lovely site, run by Cadw. Pathways around the site are well maintained, but due to the nature of the site, some buildings are not accessible to wheelchairs. Lots of good historical information about the industrial revolution, it's impact on Wales and the importance of the iron industry. Really enjoyed our visit and the staff were fantastic. The site does have toilets, but they are just outside the main entrance. Well worth a visit.

It's something to do when you're in town but there really isn't very much there to see. There's three rooms in total, two of which are basically just for videos.
I believe there is a library upstairs although we didn't go there. I think during school holidays they put things on for the kids which is nice.
There is a cafe with wonderful views. we didn't try the food so can't comment on that.

It was good if you like trains. Was a bit disappointing. We paid £22 for two adult tickets (kids were free on this occasion). The journey seemed to go back and forth, rather than from point a to point b, but there wasn't anything to do at any of the stops. Journey lasted about an hour's and about 15-20 minutes of this was stationary to have pictures of the kids in the engine itself if you wanted to. Appreciate totally it's a volunteer run thing but we were just expecting something else after looking at the website and having done these trips before. We booked to go on the Extinct Express, and what an experience!
The staff were amazing as were the baby dinosaurs. There were facts and you could pet them if you wanted, and the staff got the adults involved too.
We also got the experience of travelling on the steam train and being able to look at the engine!

What an amazing venue. I've performed here many times but being an audience member let me take in all it has to offer. Fabulous organisation by front of house. There is a bar area, which is priced reasonably, though very small. The auditorium is beautiful and the the stage magnificent. Parking is a bit of a nightmare if you find walking a problem.

Amazing hall and small museum. We visited while in the area on holiday. We had a private tour of the building by Terry a volunteer. He was excellent, brought the history to life. I have just recently found these wonderful Garn Lakes.. if you are familiar with Blaenavon and The Keepers Pond and The Big Pit, these lakes are in between both places.
There is a reasonable size carpark, which is free, be aware of the drive into this carpark coming through a small lane, as there isn't any passing point to let a vehicle go past, so one of you will have to reverse..
I parked on the side of the road, there were already 3 cars there, it's quite safe and you have one of the entrances a few yards away from your car.
There are 2 lakes, top and bottom.. it took me about an hour to walk around both, but I was strolling and taking in the amazing views and had a sit on one of the many benches scattered around the lake...
It really is lovely here.
There were a few people around, and some who were walking their dogs, had them on leads.. I think it is compulsory for the dogs to be on a lead, after reading a few of the reviews, as there is a a fixed fine if you are caught letting your dog run about, so this might be something to consider if you would rather a walk where your dog can have a run around.
There are a few dog bins and litter bins around, but no toilets, and no cafe, unfortunately.
Nevertheless, a lovely place for a quiet walk, quite a few birds to feed too, ducks, geese, etc, who absolutely loved the dried mealworm I fed them ...
