Historical place
Located in a Victorian music hall and a rare 13th-century mansion, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery offers an immersive journey through Shropshire's history. The museum showcases local and international artifacts, from mammoth remains to Roman finds from the nearby Wroxeter. With five galleries covering geology, natural history, art, archaeology, and costume, the museum provides interactive learning experiences for visitors of all ages.
Very pleasant place, well organised. Interesting exposition. Worth to visit
Tomasz G — Google review
After living between Shrewsbury and Cheshire due to work for about 6 years I managed to stop by the museum this week. What a great place! The staff are lovely. I learnt a lot about Roman history in Shrewsbury and found out there's a Roman town just outside of Shrewsbury so I will be visiting that. Thank you :)
Cleon F — Google review
Looks quite small from the outside but is actually pretty large and is spread over a number of floors and rooms. The museum has exhibits of fossils up to to more recent history. Well worth a look for an hour or 2.
BobArt S — Google review
A decent sized museum with plenty of displays. Quite spread out over several floors. They do change the displays round from time to time. Also a very nice café on the ground floor that has a decent sized courtyard.
Brian M — Google review
Lots of very old stuff More interesting than you'd think Nice gallery venue space, Thanks...
Dean H — Google review
Excellent museum with so much did to see
Mark J — Google review
Great Roman objects, but entire museum is ruined by intrusive audio visual displays. You can't escape the echoing, harsh sound, of numerous chattering videos ruining the quiet enjoyment of the displays. When I visited, in addition to the garbled audio spewing forth from every section, they also had an investor conference on floor 2. The salesman couldn't speak to a room of 20 people without a microphone, apparently oratory is a dead art, so everyone had to listen to an ethex sales pitch clatter around the room. The special exhibition was truly awful. Huge space. Only the walls used for a few self absorbed slogans. What a waste. Just awful. Oh, and the purple hair brigade also polluted an exhibit.
Deedeedaydee — Google review
So many things to see! Had such a great time looking at all the artifacts

Shrewsbury Castle, a 1000s sandstone fortress, is home to the historical collections of the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust. The town center of Shrewsbury is a charming mix of streets and alleys filled with shops and eateries. The architecture in Shrewsbury is stunning, with beautiful buildings throughout the town. Notably, Shrewsbury Castle and Shrewsbury Abbey were founded in the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery.
A castle I have wanted to do for a long time. This castle is special as it houses a fantastic collection from the Shropshire Regiment. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. Head up to Laura's Tower. It is not open, but the views from up there are fantastic. We paid £8 entrance, but well worth it. A small gift shop, but cash only. Toilets are available.
Lynn ( — Google review
Shrewsbury Castle, perched on a hill in the heart of the town, is a good historical site with stunning views of the surrounding area. Originally built by the Normans in 1074, it has played a key role in English history, including during the medieval conflicts and the English Civil War. The castle grounds are free to explore, offering peaceful walks through well-maintained gardens. Inside, the Soldiers of Shropshire Museum showcases military artifacts and memorabilia, highlighting the history of the local regiments.I am not a fan of this type of museums so it did not hook me at all. Climbing Laura’s Tower rewards visitors with panoramic views of Shrewsbury and its medieval streets. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from the town center, Shrewsbury Station, and Park and Ride stops. While the outdoor areas are lovely, some exhibits focus mainly on military history rather than the castle’s architectural evolution, and admission of £8 is required for the interior. Overall, it’s a charming and historically rich site, perfect for leisurely exploration, photography, and learning about Shropshire’s past.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Utterly magnificent! I'd recommend the museum to everyone. It doesn't glorify war but recognises the ultimate sacrifice that so many local men made. All of the campaigns in the last 300 years are remembered, it doesn't feel like a stuffy history type of museum as is right upto date today. The staff were friendly and informative, I came away with a far greater sense of knowledge about the world we live in now and how conflicts begin and end.
Clive L — Google review
Nice and small castle, where you can see the history of military. It’s not too big but if you feel interesting about militarism then it’s worth visit. You can buy tickets in the counter no need to book it on advance its £15 per person for Adult. On the right side you will find Laura’s tower where you can Shrewsbury town from top.
Nabina T — Google review
We didn’t go into the main museum as it was rather pricey and with small children who would not have appreciated all the weaponry etc (give it a few years!) Beautifully kept (and free) gardens - a lovely place to hang with the family lazing on benches and on the grass for a bit of a rest after a busy morning.
Philip M — Google review
Lovely historic castle, plenty of things to see inside of historical significance. The shooting simulator was also very cool for £1 !
Elizabeth H — Google review
I didn't have time to do the museum but the outside is well worth a visit if you are in town.

Shrewsbury Abbey is a well-preserved medieval abbey that serves as the backdrop for the popular Brother Cadfael mystery tales. Situated on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, it offers a picturesque setting near the River Severn. The town itself, known as the birthplace of Charles Darwin, boasts historical landmarks like Shrewsbury Castle and Prison. Founded in the 11th century by Roger de Montgomery, both the castle and abbey are steeped in history.
Visiting Shrewsbury Abbey was a truly peaceful experience. When I entered, it was almost empty—no crowds, no noise, just calm and quiet. There was no ticket or admission fee, which was a pleasant surprise. The Abbey itself is beautiful and very well kept, a clear sign that it’s deeply respected and cared for. I was able to say my prayers in peace, and I felt genuinely happy and uplifted by the sanctity of the place. The lack of tourists made it even more special—it felt like a sacred space, not just a historic site. I feel blessed to have witnessed the beauty and tranquility of Shrewsbury Abbey.
Zoë V — Google review
Soaked in so much history you can feel it as soon as you enter. The building is stunning with so much to see it's like walking in to a museum only this is the real thing, even the wall are there to tell a story. I was lucky enough to be there when mid morning prayers were taking place which lifted the atmosphere to another level. Although the scale of the building is similar to some of the cathedrals dotted around the country, the interior is far less ornate which personally I believe is much more in keeping with what these places are meant to represent. If you do visit make sure you take one of the information sheets to guide you around. Don't miss the exterior, which is just as interesting. As fantastic as these builds are it's the people that make them so special and I was lucky enough to spend half an hour chatting with two of the nicest and most interesting that I have come across in a long time.
Paul O — Google review
Amazing place for a live music venue. Watched the John Martyn Project, very atmospheric sound was great well organised with toilets and bar. Beautiful surroundings.

Shrewsbury Abbey is one of the most interesting and beautiful places in town. It was founded in 1083 by the Norman Earl Roger de Montgomery and was once a large Benedictine monastery. Even though most of the old abbey was destroyed after Henry VIII’s Dissolution, the part that remains is still impressive and full of history. Inside, you can see the massive Norman pillars and arches, the stone nave, and beautiful Gothic windows. One of the highlights is the shrine of St Winifred — her remains were brought to the abbey in the 12th century, and the site became a famous place of pilgrimage. There are also memorials and plaques that tell the story of the abbey and the people who lived there, along with a small exhibition about its history and its connection to the “Brother Cadfael” novels. The abbey is still an active church today, welcoming visitors and well looked after. There is more remains of the abbey across the road which was built cut through the monastery buildings. Worth a visit.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Lovely abbey (church) with some interesting medieval history and beautiful architecture and windows. There are a few signs with history and an informational one pager to learn more, so able to either get a quick 5-10 minute overview or read and explore in more detail. Free to enter, but donations appreciated. Clean toilets and public car park across the street.
Becky T — Google review
Beautiful building. Ancient masterpiece. Well serviced and documented. Quite peaceful, mainly because there were no statues.
Bright S — Google review
Well worth the pilgrimage to visit. A magnificent building full of spiritual reminders of our brief time on this earth. Be good folks is my take on it all. Must try harder could be my lifetime motto, I came away invigorated at life's opportunities.
Clive L — Google review
A lovely abbey. The staff were warm and welcoming, eager to share their knowledge. We were lucky to hear a choir practising. They sounded beautiful. There is only a small part of the abbey left, but go outside, and you will see parts of the rest of the building.

The Theatre Severn is a modern riverside theater in Shrewsbury, United Kingdom, featuring two auditoriums that host a variety of performances including musicals, dramas, and live concerts. The theater's contemporary structure contrasts with the town's traditional charm. Nearby, visitors can explore the historic market town of Shrewsbury and enjoy a diverse culinary scene with options ranging from gastro pubs to fine dining restaurants.
This is a great theatre to work in, with a huge amount of space back stage. It was perfect for our show. The staff are all very friendly and helped me several times when I got lost in the Labyrinthine backstage area. Audiences here were very sweet and several of the young people joined in at the end with some very enthusiastic and entertaining dancing. Thank you Shrewsbury! You were wonderful!

Absolutely furious. Went to see the band livewire... They were absolutely great. Loved them... But the venue seemed to exceed capacity. No room to move... Drunken idiots forcing their way past to the bars that were supposed to be closed. I ended up leaving because of people constantly pushing us around to get past. Absolute joke. I can honestly say I will NEVER return!

Theatre Severn in the heart of Shrewsbury is well worth a visit. Modern and well designed this is a fine place to take in a show. There's a bar for refreshments and wider facilities available. Recommended.

Singing dancing and comedy his talents are endless. I for one cannot wait to see him again Friday 21st April My first visit to this theatre and must say I am very impressed by it . A lovely auditorium set on three floors with comfy seating and plenty of leg room. A well equipped bar if you fancy a tipple and a great view from the balcony. Beautiful architecture, absolutely stunning inside and it's the largest circular church in the UK. Beautiful organ and stained glass windows. Smelled beautiful and was filled with lilies, among other flowers. We felt welcomed here, despite being atheists. Charles Darwin was baptised here. The headstone of Ebenezer Scrooge from the 1984 film can be found in the graveyard. A must to see if you're visiting Shrewsbury and it's a stone's throw away from the park and river, too.
Mary J — Google review
St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury is absolutely extraordinary — unlike any other church I’ve seen in the UK. From the outside it looks elegant and classical, but when you step inside, you realise just how unique it is. The whole nave is perfectly circular, with galleries running all the way around and a soaring domed ceiling that gives the place a wonderful light and spacious feel. It has a beautiful Edwardian charm mixed with Georgian grace — polished wood, soft colours and elegance. The original medieval St Chad’s collapsed in 1788 after ignoring warnings from the great engineer Thomas Telford, and when the new one was built, there’s a legend that the architect’s round design was actually a misunderstanding — the builders supposedly went ahead with the wrong set of plans! Whether or not that’s true, the result is one of the most unusual churches in England. It’s also full of historical connections. Charles Darwin was baptised here in 1809, and the church is still used for services and concerts today. Out in the churchyard there’s even a fun little surprise for Dickens fans — a gravestone for Ebenezer Scrooge, placed there after the filming of A Christmas Carol in Shrewsbury.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Visited this church while out for a walk because it's round shape catching my eyes. It's one of very few round churches in UK. Charles Darwin was baptised in this church in 1809. This church was found in Saxon times. Had a walk at the back to find a famous Scrooge's grave. Btw staff of the church was very nice, friendly and polite specially the old chap on door who have us idea of visiting interest points and walk around for that. There been rehearsal going on for Sunday services which was very awesome.

Normally most churches are pretty standard. Look nice from the outside and basic from within. However, this church is quite the contrary. It has like such a beautiful architecture of its own and in such a unique of circular shape. The church entrance has two entrances. The first septum is for like Sunday class room i am told by the vicar and the second septum is the main entrance to the inner core of the church where visitors book and ceremonies are held. Its inside is very beautiful. The window carving, painting on the glasses, pulpit, set up for children and the front to where people are christened. Very warm inside with the central heating working perfectly. They also have a children's play area. Parking is free (I believe) but limited.
Adil R — Google review
The church is I'm told the biggest round church in the UK inside it's stunning. It gives a real inclusive feel. Built in 1700s outside it looks quite drab but comes alive inside.
Chris W — Google review
A distinctive looking church built in 1792 on the hill in the Shrewsbury overlooking the Quarry Park and the River Severn. The bell tower is visible across much of the town, and the unique, round structure lends itself to a very characterful nave and alter. Even the pews themselves are rounded, all facing towards the altar and impressive stained glass windows. There is a mezzanine around the nave with additional seating. There is also a small chapel to the old Shropshire Regiment.

Couldn’t recommend this tour enough. Myself and my girlfriend had a great time on the boat. Great price and great value for money. All staff were kind and friendly and the skipper had a great sense of humour and gave great facts and shared great information about the history of Shrewsbury! Would do this again.

If visiting this area, I would strongly recommend a trip on the Sabrina. Lovely, relaxing and informative of the surrounding area. My husband & I were amazed by the history associated with Shrewsbury. The captain was entertaining with all his knowledge and the servers on board were very polite. Very reasonably priced too.

Very pleasant trip ikon the river. Guide tells you about the sights of interest on the return trip. 45 minutes duration and good selection of drinks on board. Staff very friendly.

Lovely experience apart from the guy vaping on board! Sat right behind me and was blowing all in my face, every time the staff went downstairs. Maybe some signs up saying no smoking/vaping on board would be helpful. Interesting history chat from the captain and you can buy snacks and drinks for the trip if you wish. Price £12.50.

The boat trip was on the upper floor of the passenger boat and sailing along the river Severn and turning and coming back. The sun was out on the day we arrived and the views are stunning and you’re having your cut of tea and cake which was very therapeutic and nice to chill out and have the staff look after you. The staff were very helpful and obliging and went out of their way to make your trip enjoyable. I would highly recommend a trip on the Sabrina Boat.

Shrewsbury Prison, an 18th-century jail closed in 2013, offers visitors the opportunity to explore its empty cells and yard. The prison provides guided tours led by retired prison officers, allowing guests to delve into its intriguing history and experience interactive activities such as a prison-themed escape room. For those seeking a chilling experience, ghost tours are available to explore the dark past and mysterious atmosphere of the prison.
We visited the Shrewsbury Prison today and had a guided tour with Graham, I think it was. And we would thoroughly recommend it! Our tour was very informative and really interesting about prison life, and Grahams 30+ years service in the prison service. My 10 year old was part of the tour, and he gained a lot from it. So that age group is good for debating parents. All in all 5⭐️ a very good and interesting way to spend 2-3hours of your day.

HMP Shrewsbury, nicknamed "The Dana" after the original Dana Gaol on the site, is a fantastic Tourist attraction and insight into how Prison Life and conditions were. All the staff are wonderful and helpful. I went on a Self Guided tour on this occasion, although ghost and guided varieties exist if you wish. There are detailed and plentiful boards giving information about the rooms and topics surrounding that area of the facility. The only negative is the new chapel and Visitation was closed around the time of my visit, which I would have loved to see.

Brilliant day out with easy parking. You get the full run of the prison, it's a real eye opener and well worth it. Wing c is very spooky and sad, the execution room really is sobering.

A fascinating and yet a sad place. Our guides were Malcolm and Alex who told us about the prison's history in an incredibly engaging way. The personal stories of Malcolm, who worked there for many years, are particularly captivating and moving.

Had a great time looking around the Historical Prison. Lots to see and good signage. Just wish we had time to do the guided tour!
Elizabeth H — Google review
A fascinating place , lovely to visit but must have been horrible to be in, with electricity , toilets and water in the cells only added in 1995. This was also 1 of 17 prisons that was allowed to carry out executions. Infoboards are scattered around the site , and are interesting if sparse. There are tours (1 a day) which would be better if you want to understand more. I managed a quick chat with a guide and an ex officer in the jail which was fascinating. There is a resturaunt on site and they do ghost tours in the evening if that's your thing.

Nestled in the heart of Shrewsbury, the Church of St Mary the Virgin stands as a stunning testament to medieval architecture. This magnificent Gothic church, with its intricate details and striking stained-glass windows, is a must-see for any visitor. Dating back to the 10th century and founded by King Edgar, it holds the title of Shrewsbury's oldest church and boasts an impressive spire that ranks among England's tallest.
This church is a must visit when in Shresbury. This was a lovely church that had friendly volunteers who informed visitors about the rich history of the church. I heard stories about the stained glass and even learned the storyline behind some of the 'comic strips' on the glass. The volunteers were so incredibly kind and informative, giving food recommendations as well as directing us to other places we had to visit. The stories they told were interesting, and I would've loved to hear more if I had the time. It was also very cool in the church, which was a welcome compared to the terrible heat on the outside.
Geneve W — Google review
Stunning ex Anglican church in the heart of shrewsbury. Now looked after by the churches conservation trust, it has so much to see no matter what you are into. The architecture and stained glass windows are wonderful, the windows were mainly brought in from Europe and are exquisite. If you see one church in shrewsbury see this one.
Kevin M — Google review
What a surprising church, so many windows "borrowed" from other churches! It has a really nice feel to the building, seemed busy and popular when we were there on a Saturday afternoon. Worth popping into for an hour or so whilst in the town.
Brian M — Google review
St Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury is absolutely stunning — one of those places that quietly takes your breath away the moment you step inside. It’s not just a church; it’s a living time capsule of English history. The building has been standing here since Saxon times (the first church was probably built around the 10th century), and the current structure, mostly 12th–15th century, still feels full of life and character. The spire is incredible — one of the tallest in England — and you can see it from all over town. Inside, the atmosphere is calm and full of light. The carved wooden roof is richly detailed with angels, animals, and medieval patterns, and the famous Jesse Window is worth the visit alone. It’s a masterpiece of 14th-century stained glass, showing the family tree of Christ in brilliant medieval color. You can almost trace the centuries as you move through the building — Norman stonework, Gothic arches, Victorian restorations — all layered together beautifully. Now under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, St Mary’s isn’t used for regular worship anymore, but it’s open to visitors, often hosting exhibitions and events. It’s well cared for, peaceful, and free to enter (though donations are appreciated). I really love architecture and history, and this place is a must-see in Shrewsbury. It’s not just another old church — it’s a thousand years of faith, art, and craftsmanship, all under one soaring roof.

A beautiful medieval Gothic church with Norman features. Very nice architecture with wood carvings of angels, animals and a green man, plus amazing glass stained windows. The staff were warm and welcoming and the place was well maintained. A peaceful place and well worth a visit

If you are in Shrewsbury, do pop in. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful stained glass windows. Very special and peaceful. Dates back to medieval times, steeped in history.

Another stunning church in the incredible town. Don't miss the plaque as you enter telling the story of the guy who tried to zip line down to the abbey from St marys. The stain glass windows are something to behold. There are also some great bits of history dotted around the church making this a must do if you are in town.

The Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury is a historic 16th-century market hall that has been repurposed into an independent cinema. The building, constructed in only four months, reflects the town's prosperity at the time and its significance as a regional trading center. Visitors can enjoy the latest film releases in this unique setting and also explore the vaulted cafe-bar.
A very special venue and one which should be a model for other locations. Pleasingly comfortable with a super café and good seating, we enjoyed our first visit to see the McCartney film ‘One Hand Clapping’ which brought back so many memories

I used to love going to this cinema. Went with a friend today to see Mr Burton. The cinema has had a refit since my last visit. In my opinion it's not an improvement. They have installed new seating with attached drinks holders. But the seats seem to be much closer together now and if you're not careful you could be putting your elbow in the drink of the person next to you. I felt it was akin to sitting in an aeroplane seat. The cafe is still very nice and the film was superb but, for me, the new seating is a miss!!
Linda P — Google review
A small, airy and comfortable cinema with around 80 seats. It is always a delight to come here and watch films in this historic building. It is advisable to book seats well in advance for popular showings. There are a good range of films including films of stage plays, opera and ballet. There is a lift to the cinema level where there is also a small cafe. Drinks can be taken into the cinema. There are 3 toilets, including an accessible one. There are riser seats for children available, usually found at the back of the cinema. The price of tickets is very reasonable with reductions for certain client groups eg. if you need an essential carer with you the carer goes free. There are steps down to the back 4 rows of seats but a ramp leads down to the front section of the cinema. There are adverts and trailers at the beginning of films but these are not as loud or extensive as in mainstream cinemas.

The Quarry is a picturesque riverfront green space featuring a sunken garden at its center, as well as a play area and bandstand. It's an ideal spot for leisurely strolls along the riverside, with the opportunity to admire the 1923 Porthill Footbridge and enjoy a picnic on the grassy park. The Dingle, an ornamental garden designed by Percy Thrower, adds to the charm of this Victorian-era destination.
Visited on Easter Sunday. Very clean and had a funfair which was excellent for kids and the prices were reasonable The garden area was really nice and well maintained. Also a nice and well spaced area for picnics Also plenty of areas where benches are available for people to sit and relax There is also a nice playground area next to a cafe and ice cream vendor. Toilets are also accessible and free to use. Also a really nice and relaxing walk along the river too...

I recently spent some time at The Quarry in Shrewsbury, and it’s one of those places that blends natural beauty with a relaxed, local atmosphere. As a vegetarian who enjoys peaceful green spaces and a bit of people-watching, it really hit the mark. The park is spacious—around 29 acres—but it’s laid out in a way that feels open and easy to explore rather than sprawling. The River Severn curves around it, adding a lovely waterside touch. I did a slow loop along the riverside path, and it was perfect for a gentle walk. The area had a nice community vibe with people out walking dogs, running, or just lounging on the grass. It never felt too busy, even on a nice day. I brought along a veggie wrap from a local café and found a great picnic spot by the river. There weren’t many food options directly in the park when I visited, but being close to town means you can easily grab something before heading in. The open spaces are ideal for just stretching out, relaxing, or even reading for a bit. The Quarry is also really accessible—flat, well-maintained paths make it easy for all mobility levels. It’s a great option whether you want a quiet afternoon, a scenic jog, or just a peaceful walk to unwind. I’d happily return any time I’m in Shrewsbury.

If the weather is good this is a fantastic place to come and relax after a rough day exploring this lovely town. There is plenty of room for the kids to burnnof some energy and the is also a good sized play park and a splash area.
Paul O — Google review
Stepping into The Quarry feels like entering a dream woven from petals, fragrance, and sunlight. Nestled away like a secret whispered by nature, this garden is an exquisite tapestry of colors and textures, where time seems to slow and the soul feels lighter. What truly sets The Quarry apart is its breathtaking collection of flowers—most notably, the tulips. Rows upon rows of them bloom in vibrant harmony, their silky petals dancing in the breeze like brushstrokes on a living canvas. Every corner of the garden bursts with life: soft pastels, bold crimsons, and delicate whites—each tulip telling its own story. Their gentle sway under the sun is nothing short of magical. Pathways wind through curated beds and untamed patches alike, offering intimate moments with nature’s artistry. It’s easy to lose yourself here, among birdsong and the perfume of blossoms. The Quarry is more than a garden—it’s a sanctuary of beauty, a celebration of growth, and a reminder that enchantment still exists in the world. If you’re looking for a place to be inspired, calmed, or simply awed, The Quarry is a must-visit. You don’t just walk through it—you feel it in your heart.

We visited Quarry Garden by chance on our way back from Snowdonia, and it turned out to be a wonderful surprise! The park has something for everyone—open spaces, a play area, peaceful gardens, and the beautiful Dingle, a former quarry transformed into a stunning sunken garden. The suspension bridge over the River Severn is a highlight, with lovely views (and a fun little sway when you cross!). There’s also The Boathouse pub nearby with outdoor seating overlooking the river. Full of history, nature, and a warm community feel—definitely worth a visit if you’re in Shrewsbury.

Visitors can explore an array of items from flowers to organic wines and second-hand books to hand-embroidered cards.
Shrewsbury Market Hall is an absolute gem and hands down my favorite place in Shrewsbury. From the moment I stepped inside, I understood why it’s an award-winning market — it truly has a charm that made me fall in love with the town itself. The variety here is fantastic. Whether you’re after delicious local food, unique souvenirs, beautiful books, stylish clothes, handcrafted paintings, or artisanal home decor, there’s something to catch your eye at every turn. It’s a treasure trove for anyone who enjoys discovering one-of-a-kind finds and supporting small businesses. Cute!!! The stalls, people, vibe - perfect. Go if you're in the area! Special mention to the lady who runs the cookware stall - bought some cute bits and asked her about food. Straight away she emphatically told me to try the Thai place. I went straight there and it was amazing and so cheap!!! The bookstore on the top floor is quaint and a really lovely woman runs it. She showed me an amazing 2nd edition copy of Lord of the rings. Overall, charming, friendly, good food, great stalls. 👍

After reading rave reviews we decided to take a trip to Shrewsbury Market Hall. Honestly, I was severely underwhelmed. I expected more stalls and a wider range of products, if I am honest. This market is comparable to most local markets, selling fruit and veg, meat, bakery items etc on its lower ground. Upstairs you find more of the stalls I was hoping to find, but in such small numbers that it really wasn’t worth the trip. We bought a few Pokemon cards from a friendly card vendor, and then left. If you’re in the area, do pop by….but don’t drive an hour and a half out of your way for this market like I did.

This mock Tudor establishment boasts exposed beams and a modern bistro menu that reflects the rich culinary heritage of the region. We’ve finally found our favorite spot in Shrewsbury—and it’s The Boathouse! This place truly has it all: breathtaking views, a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and delicious food and drinks. The location is unbeatable, right by the river with picture-perfect views of the water and the bridge. On sunny days, there’s nothing better than sitting outside, soaking up the sunshine with a cold beer or cider in hand. It’s so peaceful watching the ducks and swans glide by, birds flying overhead, and people kayaking along the river. It really gives you that holiday feeling without ever leaving town. On our first visit, I tried lamb for the very first time and went for the Moroccan Lamb Tagine—absolutely packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. We also had the BH Burger, which was juicy, tasty, and very satisfying. The food overall was fantastic and clearly made with care. The staff were friendly and attentive from the bar to the table. The whole experience—from the scenic setting to the great food and top-notch service—made it one of those places you want to come back to again and again. Whether you’re local or just visiting Shrewsbury, The Boathouse is a must-visit. We enjoyed every minute spent there and will definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

We were visiting Shrewsbury and looking for a restaurant with view of the river. This was highly rated. There was limited parking and we parked in the city center & walked across the Port Hill Suspension Bridge. The ambiance inside and outside the restaurant was lovely. The staff were very nice. We enjoyed the food and drinks.

The boathouse is located on the river severn, opposite the Quarry Park in Shrewsbury town centre and not far away to Porthill. The food was great, I had the Honey Roasted ham and cheddar bap with skin on fries, and it was amazing. The service was good, and the staff greeted me with a friendly smile, and the price for my order wasn't that bad for the amount of food I got. If no one has been here before, give this place a try and have a taste for yourself.

Went here on bank holiday with my partner and his family, beautiful place and nice atmosphere, the staffs were lovely and nice but the experience left me embarrassed! I had placed an order with my partner’s mom for food for 4 people. My partner and his parents food came first and for more than 10mins mine didn’t even when the order was placed at same time. Everyone was waiting for my food so we could all eat together but we kept looking but no sign of my food. My partner mom had to go ask only to find out they’ve forgotten about me. The food finally came and it looked and tasted like leftovers. I had order spaghetti with prawns as it’s was my favorite meal but that day I regretted making that order, it was so soft (overcooked or reheated for too long) it didn’t taste fresh or good. I sat there swallowing the food until I couldn’t handle it anymore. Left there hungry and angry but decided to keep my cool.
Success J — Google review
Disappointing experience. The waiting staff were doing their best but the prices did not match the quality of the food we had...6 of our 8 meals were not what they should have been...dry, overcooked, poor presentation, lacking in flavour, etc...(Eg. Shepherds pie devoid of gravy/moisture, dry/overcooked chicken Kiev, pasta sauce that wouldn't have been out of place on a supermarket shelf, etc). We stayed for desserts that were unremarkable but adequate.
Vicky Y — Google review
Absolutely beautiful pub in a beautiful location. The staff were lovely and polite. Can't recommend enough.
Darren W — Google review
Not overly impressed. Service was poor; one lad who was outside didn't appear to be doing all that much, and the waitress that brought our coffees suggested one was tea, and when we said we'd ordered coffee she said "that's probably what that is". The chicken, bacon and tarragon sandwich for £9 was underwhelming. What we thought would be a piece of warm chicken breast with a slice of cooked bacon was a pre-mixed cold sandwich filler, with a handful of crisps and a few lettuce leaves in the plates. The inside appears nice although we sat outside and watched the world go by, which was pleasant enough.

Myself with family visited for the first time today. The owner was there and happy to talk to us about the centre and the birds that live there. The whole time we were there, she was busy caring for the birds, including a four week old kookaburra, that she is currently hand rearing. The centre is only small, so an hour was sufficient time for our visit. The experience was informative and the birds all seemed happy and well cared for. We will definitely return again.

When we first got there, the owner was friendly and helpful. You can pay cash or by card before entering. We were left to walk around on our own and enjoy the birds in their glory. All birds were visible and looked happy in their home. Thank you for doing such a great job and allowing us the public to see these beautiful birds.

Took some friends, who were visiting us, here yesterday. What a great place to spend a couple of hours. Beautiful birds, all seemed exceptionally well cared for. The staff were very knowledgeable and happy to spend time talking about the birds, while still feeding and carrying out cleaning etc. Didn't book an "experience session" as the trip was a spur of the moment thing but will definitely book it for next time. If you like birds of prey, put this on your bucket list and go see for yourself. Ian

The Soldiers of Shropshire Museum, formerly known as the Shropshire Regimental Museum, is located within the historic walls of Shrewsbury Castle in Shropshire, England. The castle itself has a rich history dating back to Norman times and offers a strategic vantage point overlooking the River Severn. Since 1985, the museum has been home to an impressive collection of military artifacts including weapons, uniforms, medals, and pictures from the past 300 years.
Me and my friend really enjoyed this place, priced cheaply at around £5 each! There is memorabilia from years into the past, including vintage soldier outfits and more recognizable army ones. Medals show various ages too, walls are decorated with glorious frames and fancy dress is totally free on top of entry! Access can be made to both upstairs and downstairs, even the outdoor gardens by the castle too.

Great collection of uniforms and badges and quite a breathtaking collection of medals. The castle itself is in a magnificent spot. I would have liked to spend more time both inside and out taking in the views but as its bitterly cold I moved on quicker than I expected. One point is that it is Not disabled friendly. Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings, an 18th-century structure, is renowned as the world's first iron-framed building and a precursor to modern skyscrapers. This historic site played a significant role in the industrial revolution and reflects Shropshire's engineering prowess. After being abandoned for three decades, restoration efforts are underway to revive this remarkable building and transform it into a hub for culture and creative industries.
What a fantastic group of buildings. Definitely worth visiting if you have an English Heritage membership. Its all very newly renovated with an interactive museum telling you about the history of the building and those working there. We did the "behind the scenes" tour which was nice, going up to the fourth floor to see what it might have been like in the 1900's. The staff there were so friendly and informative. We’re proud to have one of our offices located here. It truly is an impressive collection of buildings — a real hidden gem. Recently renovated, the site offers a fresh look, and the interactive museum does a fantastic job of bringing the past to life, vividly showcasing the history of the place and the people who once worked here. Make sure to head up to the fourth floor to catch a glimpse of what life might have looked like in the early 1900s. There’s also a café on-site and plenty of spots to sit down and grab a bite, so you won’t be left high and dry if you need a break during your visit. There has been a Church here on this site since Saxon times . The original sadly now gone thought to have been founded by Aethelflaed the renowned daughter of Alfred the Great and Lady of the Mercians . How cool founders don't come much better than that ! The Church has been rebuilt several times the oldest part today being the 184 foot 15th century spire . Which can be seen from all around . The nave and chancel were designed by John Carline and built by 1795 . Be prepared when you walk in or the beauty of the East Window by Francis Eginton of Handsworth will knock you off your feet . It is stunning . A portrayal of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary with a theme of Hope . God knows we need some of that today . At a cost of £200 it is copied from a painting by Guido Reni now in Munich . It really is a glorious sight . St Alkmund himself originally was buried in Shropshire before being moved at a later date to Derby . His sarcophagus can be seen at Derby Museum today .

The Shrewsbury Library is a beautiful old building that houses Shrewsbury's library. It's just across the road from the Castle and near the railway station. The library has a good range of books, and it also has a wheelchair accessible area. The library also has a hearing Loss Support Hub, which is held monthly. Appointments are required for this event.
The “staffs” (i dont know if they actually work there lol) were absolutely angels!!! Since I was here by myself, they helped me take photos with the Charles Darwin statue, and were so helpful in general <3 I went for a day trip in Shrewsbury and visiting the library was the best part.

I love to come during my off days from work, just to relax and have some time to study and read on a clean, quiet and beautiful place. Staff is helpful if you need a hand with anything, and the book selection is very wide. Is well located as well, having restaurants and shops around, and more or less 10 minutes away from the Quarry (park). It has some nice history, so it is worth a visit. And if you are looking for a quiet place to be, it is worthy to stay!

During a day trip to Shrewsbury, the library was recommended as a 'must see' by staff in our lunch venue. It's a fabulous combination of ancient and modern. The exposed oak beam structure inside the ground floor has been preserved. There have also been repairs and reinforcements added in traditional oak, which blend in seamlessly. Go to the top floor and the 'old school room' retains the original wooden panelling. This is covered in carved initials and names of bored children from the 18th and 19th centuries! I've included some photos of some of the older carvings. Certainly the most historically interesting library I've even visited.

Flower market
The Shrewsbury Flower Show is an annual event held in Shropshire on the second weekend of August. It features a wide array of exotic and common floral arrangements, along with entertainment such as bands, show jumping, and cooking shows by professional celebrity chefs. The show also offers the opportunity to interact with professional celebrity gardeners for gardening tips and advice. In addition to the floral displays, there are trade stands where visitors can collect freebies and learn about various products and services.
The shrewsbury flower show is great show to attend in shropshire each year on the secord weekend of August on Friday and Saturday. It has entertainment, cooking shows by professional celebrity chefs and professional celebrity gardeners to answer questions and give tips on gardening. There are trade stands right round the hole show to see and collect freebies and taik to people and find out what they do. If you are someone who is outside shropshire or the west midlands and thinks about going the Shrewsbury Flower Show, I would give it a try and if you think it's not good then at least you have given it a try at the end of the day.

A very enjoyable day with plenty to see and do. Variety of entertainment in main arena. The show is now a more eclectic mix of traders with the flowers, vegetables etc almost taking a back seat. However the displays remain as inspiring as ever. Well worth the visit especially if weather is kind. Our visit was interrupted by a bomb scare so unable to enjoy the evenings entertainment but credit to the organisers for allowing people to attend the following evening for live music entertainment and fireworks which were excellent.
Wendy S — Google review
Most definitely worth a visit, but the Saturday is very busy. Need to use park and ride to get there, parking is free and the bus is £2 return p/p. At the show there is something for all ages, but take a picnic as food is very expensive. There is also a firework display which was very good. We will definitely be going again.
Clare K — Google review
The relative lack of flowers, show gardens, and horticultural exhibitors/stalls was disappointing, we expected more than a village fete. Some of the marquees and grounds had empty spaces for stalls and gardens, indicating that they were unable to fill them. Probably the big exhibitors don’t consider this particular flower show as worth their time, and for smaller companies perhaps the cost of a stall space is prohibitive. The ‘craft marquee’ was unworthy of the name. The majority of the outdoor stalls were food vendors, and the guest talks were dull and poorly-attended. Thank goodness for the amazing begonia society displays, which were the highlight of the show, by quite some margin. The trailer toilet cubicles (standing room for one person only) were so tiny that they made it very difficult for parents accompanying small children to use. Oh well, we thought, at least we have the evening’s entertainment and fireworks to look forward to. But in the end we didn’t, because some moron thought it would be hilarious to phone the police and claim they had planted an explosive device in the grounds. The instruction to evacuate could not be heard by many people initially, as the organisers had not instructed the loud musical performance to cease first. The result was confusion, with many people moving to different areas firstly instead of outside the park. After evacuating we waited outside with the crowd for 40 minutes before deciding to go home. Thankfully, following an extensive search of the park the phone call turned out to be a hoax. The organisers offered to give those evacuated on Friday access to the show again on Saturday evening, however even if we hadn’t been travelling then, I don’t think we would have taken them up on that offer.

Attingham Park, located just east of Shrewsbury, is a stunning 18th-century country house estate with beautiful parkland and a large organic walled garden. The property offers behind-the-scenes views of ongoing restoration efforts and features Regency interiors, a deer park, and various collections including paintings, silver, and furniture. The two-acre walled garden is continuously being restored to its former glory and provides an array of sensory experiences throughout the seasons.
We went on a school trip. And it's a huge park. It's the best option for kids to go and explore nature and have fun. Especially with friends. There's a cafe and many washroom facilities. There are different activities for kids and a lot of places to run around. It was my first visit and I highly recommend it. It's so clean and well maintained.

Visited here today. Very interesting house and lovely gardens. All staff were lovely and friendly, especially a lady called Ann Heritage, I think she said her name was. She showed us around the painting room and we saw the painting in the conservation room. She was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and so easy to talk to. We enjoyed the talk about the painting upstairs. A lovely visit. We would recommend this place. Wear comfortable shoes.

A grand and impressive house, nestled amongst vast grounds. Choosing one of the walking routes is a must, as this is such a beautiful estate. We opted for the woodland & deer park routes & being enveloped by the autumn beauty was delightful. We were lucky enough to see the deer, when sat on a bench eating lunch, can't get better than that. The house is also a splendour, with gorgeous attention to detail in each room, which still houses original furnishings, etc. You can walk around at your leisure or join a guided tour. Should you be peckish, there is a lovely tea room in the old stables & as always, a shop & second-hand bookshop. We thoroughly enjoyed our day at Attingham, hope you do too.

Awesome place. The house itself is stunning but the grounds are beautiful. Tall trees in lush forests with a deer park you walk through. I was able to see them in a large group not far from me. Well worth a visit.

Simply stunning. We’ve visited many NT houses and parks recently and inside the house was the most impressive and interesting. One got a real sense of the families wealth and the plethora of interesting ‘exhibits’ on show. All the staff were knowledgeable and the front gate volunteers very welcoming. I would heartily recommend a few hours here.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would! I’ve visited Attingham Park many times, but this time truly stood out thanks to Les (at the entrance near the car park) and Matty, the amazing Café Team Leader. These two are the absolute definition of outstanding customer service. Starting with Les – what an incredible first impression she gives! From the moment I arrived, her friendly smile, welcoming tone, and great sense of humour made me feel instantly at ease. She’s got that wonderful Scottish charm that makes every interaction memorable — warm, genuine, and full of personality. You can tell she absolutely loves what she does, and it shines through in the way she greets everyone with such enthusiasm and kindness. She doesn’t just do her job; she makes people’s days better. Then there’s Matty, who is nothing short of a superstar in the café. You can see right away that he’s a natural leader — calm under pressure, organised, and always looking out for both his team and the customers. Even when the café is busy, he takes the time to check in, make sure everything is perfect, and serve everyone with a smile. The drinks were spot on, the food was fresh, and the whole atmosphere just felt relaxed and friendly. It’s clear that Matty sets the tone for his team, everyone works hard, but there’s laughter, teamwork, and pride in what they do. Together, Les and Matty made this visit one of the best experiences I’ve had at a National Trust site. They represent everything great about Attingham Park — friendly faces, genuine care, and an attention to detail that makes you feel valued as a guest. 10/10 – Les and Matty are a credit to Attingham Park and to the National Trust. People like them are the reason visitors keep coming back. 👏

We had an amazing time with family and friends at National Trust’s Altrincham Park, it truly feels like a hidden gem tucked away from the busy world. The grounds are stunning, offering miles of peaceful trails where you can walk, talk, and unwind surrounded by nature. Each route has something different to enjoy, from the beautifully kept walled gardens to the magical sight of deer roaming freely across the park. It’s a place that feels calm yet full of life, making it ideal whether you’re after a quiet stroll or a fun day out with loved ones. After exploring, the café is the perfect stop. They serve a good choice of hot dishes, sandwiches, and cakes, and while the prices are on the higher side, it’s worth it for the setting and the quality. We finished off our walk with tea and cake, which was the perfect end to the day. Dogs are welcome too, as long as they’re kept on a lead, so it’s a spot the whole family can enjoy. What makes Altrincham Park so special is that every visit feels different, whether it’s a new trail, seasonal changes in the gardens, or simply spotting the wildlife. It’s somewhere you can return to time and time again and always come away with a fresh experience.

Such a lovely day out. The steps were definitely a welcomed challenge, but the sights are so lovely, so going a pace is easy so you can stop and enjoy the views. Next time, we will definitely be sampling the cafe offerings.

Absolutely fantastic place, very easy to park. The staff were very informative and cheery which was nice. Good information on prices visible. Toilets at the entrance. Lots of dog drinking stations which was a lovely touch. Great place to adventure for all ages , wouldnt recommend for wheelchairs, buggies or those with limited mobility however I believe there's tours via 4x4 on the Web page? Lots to see and do there. We spent about 2 hours but could have spent all day adventuring! There's human and dog icecream in the freezer to purchase at the end aswell as cold drinks.

Excellent place to visit, great views, and spectacular scenery. We visited on a Saturday, the car park was busy, but plenty big enough to find a space (parking is free). From the car park it is a short walk to the main entrance to the walk. There are restrooms and a cafe (more on which later) and a small gift shop area. The walk is a circular route, with a great deal of steps both up and down, and tree roots and low branches to be wary of. It is a one way walk, which makes life easier for everyone (so quite how the family of three went the wrong way is a bit of a mystery)🤡 Sturdy footwear is definitely recommended, and a torch (for the caves and tunnels), although torches are available at the entrance if required, but I don't know the cost. Whilst it is only a 3.5-4.0 mile walk around (shorter if you take a few of the different (easier) paths, it is quite strenuous, so be prepared, especially if taking younger children etc. There are numerous stopping points on the way to enjoy the views around the area, and a number of towers and follies to access. There are toilets half way around the walk, and a number of well located benches for stopping and a picnic. One thing I would say is this is definitely NOT a walk on a wet day or after heavy rain, as some of the downhill gravel stretches can I imagine be a bit treacherous and muddy too. We were quite lucky in that it was quite a cool day, as in the summer it would get pretty hot walking around. It is highly recommended to take water or other liquids with you, as I can vouch that the walk does make you thirsty!!🥵 Some of the white arrow signage is a little confusing but there is a free map supplied when you buy your ticket, and this should definitely be taken as it does help. Unfortunately one of the return routes was closed off part way round, but nonetheless it was a very enjoyable walk. On arrival back at the entrance as mentioned there are toilets and a cafe. We were looking forward to a cuppa and perhaps a slice of cake, but the cafe was quite disappointing as it is completely self service, and does not seem to offer much in the way of snacks etc. In fact we just went home and had a cuppa when we got back. That said, it is a very enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours, and if the weather is kind then the views are very good.
Rich C — Google review
It took us just nearly 4hrs to walk all around, including some sit down breaks and time to enjoy the views. We were blessed with a wonderful weather to enjoy the beautiful views. We had great time. Make sure you have wear comply footwear or even hiking boots as some of it was quite hard going and our feet and legs were hurting by the end. I would recommend and will most likely return it the future.

Hawkstone Follies is a special spot in Shropshire. The park goes back to the 1700s, when the Hill family turned the rocky hills and woods into a landscape full of caves, towers, tunnels and hidden paths. Still every turn brings something new to discover. The walks are great fun, with amazing views from the Monument and plenty of places to explore along the way. Some paths are steep and a bit uneven, so good shoes are a must. You can easily spend whole day here just wandering and enjoying the peace and scenery. There is plenty benches to relax after climbing, picnic areas as well as many natural seats on stones. For a small fee of £10.50 you can enjoy beautiful and adventurous day.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Great day out for our 8 year old. Only £10.50 per person which is a cheap day out these days. An outdoors adventure trail through woods and caves , with plenty of ups and downs and rounds. Free parking . Cafe , toilets and gift shop at the beginning of the trail. Toilets at the far end of the trail too. Plenty of places to enjoy a picnic with some very nice views. It can be quite physically demanding at some points and is not a place for prams or anyone mobility issues. Appropriate footwear and clothes would make your day easier here. Maybe bring a torch for the caves. A fantastic place for kids and adults alike.
John R — Google review
Fantastic day out! The whole family thoroughly enjoyed it and we shall be returning soon! Lot's of steps though so not good for people with mobility issues...although there are easier walking routes but I'm unsure as to how easy they'd be.
Caterina F — Google review
Lovely place but charging the same price for kids over the age of 4 is a bit much. Possibly why it was quiet for the summer hols on a beautiful day. The place is great for a good adventure but you definitely need to be fairly fit and able bodied as it's NOT for the feint hearted!! It's very physical with a lot of up and down steep slopes and steps.

Awesome day hike, spectacular views! The trail is not marked clearly (atleast for our American experience). One access is from the Bog visitor centre. After you park the car, look for the viewpoint sign, and go up. Once you get to the stones, the climbing and views - miles of grasslands, blue sky - make it all well worth it. We went in Feb, the wind was strong, and it was fairly cold. Grab warm layers, and a beanie. As you trample along, remember that you are walking on stones 500 million old!

This is a great place to walk with some iconic views and landmark rocks to spot along the ridge. The notable rocks are Cranberry, Manstone, Devil's Rock and Shepherd's Rock, as well as the Castle Ring hillfort towards the northern end of the ridge. Pathways lead from the parking areas up to the top. Parking is available at The Bog Visitor Centre and at Snailbeach.

A great day for a stride out with warm sun and a slight breeze. Conditions also good for the Red Kites to spiral arround the uppermost rocks. I also saw a common Lizzzard who had been basking on a railway sleeper step near green hill. He scurried into the heather on my approach. There is a memorial plaque to a fallen Whittley bomber crew from 2nd WW at the bottom of the hill. Its worth a visit just to walk in a different kind of landscape ! We had good views all round !

We tried to visit the castle and tower on Sunday but was disappointed to find it closed. We managed to find a spare half an hour Monday to come visit. The Dingle is a stunning 29-acre parkland located within Shrewsbury Quarry, offering vibrant flower gardens, grassy areas, and fountains. This recreational area has been enjoyed by the town since the 16th century and features a beautiful sunken garden at its heart. The Dingle boasts fabulous flower beds, water features, statues, and alpine borders cultivated by renowned gardener Percy Thrower.
A very special place. The gardens are very attractive and well laid out. There are sculptures spread around the place and a lovely pound with fountains. At the bottom of my hill lies a park for the children, you can also buy refreshments here. Outside the main entrance of the park is a church I would recommend you see. It's round inside, it's quite unique, the graveyard has a headstone of Ebenezer scrooge .

Stunning ! We visited on a beautiful sunny day 6.8. My wife and I had a stroll around, we had our 2 dogs on leads ( no restrictions). The gardens drop down a little so you feel as if you’re in an oasis. It is kept immaculate, praise needs to go to the gardeners. There’s a bust of the famous Percy Thrower who used to be head gardener. There’s a plenty of benches to sit down. It’s not a huge place that you’d get tired walking around, it’s just the the size. A lovely lake, an ornamental pond area at one end. Oh how I envy the locals having this place to relax in. It’s by far the very best garden we’ve ever seen and we’ve seen quite a few. Well done The Dingle and everyone who works so hard to get it to this superb standard.

The Dingle is an absolute gem in the heart of Shrewsbury’s Quarry Park. Once a quarry, it has been transformed into a beautiful sunken garden with colourful flower beds, water features, and a peaceful fountain. It feels like stepping into a hidden oasis—calm, serene, and full of charm. The planting is stunning in every season, and the history behind it makes it even more special. A perfect spot for a quiet walk, photography, or simply to sit and enjoy nature. Definitely one of Shrewsbury’s highlights!

Absolutely stunning and immaculate garden within the Quarry Park. Beautifully arranged with some fabulous plants and the centrepiece lake comprising of 2 lovely fountains. Every town should have a space like this, and a massive well done 👏 to everyone involved in keeping it so pristine.

I liked the flowers, they were very pretty. The colors were nice and soft, and they looked so fresh like they just came from the garden. When I saw them first time, I felt a little happy inside, like spring coming again. The smell also was nice, not too strong but still you can feel it in the air. It made the room look more alive, more beautiful. But also, I didn’t like the flowers... I don’t know why. Maybe because flowers die too fast, and then they look sad. Sometimes they make me sneeze. I think I like how they look but not how they are. They take too much space on the table. And when they fall down, the petals everywhere—it’s messy. So yes, I liked them but also... I didn’t like them so much.

We had a wonderful weekend with extended family staying in tents and safari lodges. The accommodation was fantastic, the lodges were luxurious, clean and spacious. Plus all the staff were so helpful and nice, even collecting a birthday cake which had been incorrectly delivered for us. We will be back…highly recommended. Ty.

Absolutely spotless, toilet block lovely. Food good, with attentive staff. Biggest gripe is the cost of pitch fees. Why charge so much when there generally so little on site?
Matthew R — Google review
Positives first: 😊 Very helpful gent (Night Warden) at check in. Inside of lodge was great - as pictured, albeit I imagined it a little larger. Hubby & I had main room on ground floor, and kids had loft space. I would not recommend this option for very young kids, or anyone with mobility/flexibility options as there is a steep stepladder to go up, and when you’re up there, you cannot stand up! Movement is by crawling/bum shuffling only! Main bedroom had a comfy bed, and we were very grateful for the complimentary Bath Robes and lots of spare towels (we’ve had to pay for these separately at other Holiday locations 😕) to use after enjoying the Hot tub. Shower had good pressure 👍🏻 Also thought ‘The White Company’ complimentary mini toiletries were a nice touch (their stuff is lush) Kitchen was great! Huge cooker, and SMEG kettle and toaster (fancy! 😉) also appreciated the small offering of complimentary tea/coffee, and dishwasher tablets. We used our log burner every night ❤️ Came with a free bag of wood & everything needed to start the fire. 10/10! 🫶🏻 Used the mini dishwasher every night too - who wants to wash dishes on holiday?! Free WiFi!!! 🤗💖 Negatives: Although kitchen was lovely & clean - there was recycling left over, under the sink, from previous guests…. Dishwasher was clean, but both the Salt & Rinse Aid lights were illuminated, & it made me wonder if/when they had been last refilled…? 🤔 (Pedantic, yes - but I wasn’t keen on the thought of our dishes being washed in a washer that hasn’t been maintained/as clean as possible…) Or perhaps it is maintained, and housekeeping just hadn’t gotten round to it yet…?? Main clock on the wall had stopped working. Drawer nearest the double cooker caught on the cooker, every time we opened it. An oversight/planning mistake when assembling kitchen…. It’s not major….but these little things detract from the High End image/Gold Standard that is trying to be projected….. ⭐️ There was a fire pit - yes, but it was so small, & low 🥺 We were hoping to BBQ, but would only have been able to for The Borrowers. Or Smurfs. We roasted our marshmallows indoors! (This is also because it was drizzling on and off) We enjoyed our stay, and would rate it = 7.5/10 🥰 Thank you.

Had two nights at this cracking site. We had a fully serviced pitch which I have to say was excellent. The location is very handy for getting out and about especially going into Shrewsbury. The toilet/shower block has to be the best I’ve come across.. The staff were all really friendly and had a smile for us .. We will be back..

Love this campsite. It is so well laid out with all the activity areas on one side and accommodation on the other. The pitches are large and split with low hedges, all pitches have fresh water and electric and somewhere to discard waste water. We were in a campervan and the drive over grey waste area was great. The facilities are excellent and the music playing in the toilet/shower area is a nice touch. The cold water swimming was a refreshing 11degrees! If you want a walk, you can walk down by the river across to Atcham, where you will find Attingham Park (National Trust) and The Mytton and Mermaid pub - if its wet beware of the mud!

The best equipped caravan site I have visited. The staff are great, attentive and quick to respond. The site has been done very well. Sadly there were times that the clientel did not reflect the site. How ever the staff were on the issues quickly. The outdoor pool is a accident waiting to happen. I think attention needs to be paid to the walking surfaces as it's very slippery.

Everything fabulous. Good site. Good sports everything very clean. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Loving it. Edit. Although we had a good time, from the middle of the week. We noticed a booming noise that one day started at 615am and continued for hours. It turned out to be the the loud music from the gym. This went on for several days. But we still enjoyed it.

Great place to take the kids with parts for all ages. With the quarry right next to it for picnics and ball games it's a really good location. Would be better with cleaner toilets but the same could be said about anywhere. At least this park has toilets. Good amount of seating dotted around makes it easy to sit and watch the kids playing. Overall great place to go.

A little small for people to sit inside around the splashback while watching their children but the kids absolutely love it. Its better than one at Telford as more things for kids to play with or under. Kids will spend hours here on a hot day. When they've finished in splash park they like to go into the play park.

Acton Burnell Castle, built between 1284-1293, offers a glimpse into 13th Century England. Once the private residence of Robert Burnell, Bishop of Bath and Wells, it now stands as a red sandstone shell. While it was more of a fortified manor house than a traditional castle, its historical significance is undeniable. Visitors can explore the ruins for free and also visit the adjacent 13th century church and cemetery for an immersive experience.
A beautiful ruin set in an attractive Shropshire village and is about 10 minutes from the A49. There is enough spaces outside for 3 cars and some parked further down. The ruins and surrounding areas were extremely peaceful and there were a few information boards dotted around explaining about the history of the castle, interesting reading too. There is an added bonus of a beautiful church directly next door and a small peaceful wooded area on entry. Free to enter too. Visited 29th November 2024

Nice area to visit. Not an exciting castle though, more so someone's vanity project a long time ago. The church next door is quite nice...

Stunning ancient ruins located in the pretty Shropshire village of Acton Burnell. The ruins are not very extensive with just small parkland surrounding the area ,but close to The nearby church. A very otherworldly place. Well worth a visit and potentially a quiet stroll around. Interesting history behind this place. And it is situated just behind Concord College.
Dez H — Google review
Acton Burnell Castle is a fascinating place to visit, set in a peaceful corner of the Shropshire countryside. The ruins, though not extensive, give a real sense of the grandeur the building once had, with its tall red sandstone walls and striking medieval windows. What makes it particularly interesting is its connection to Robert Burnell, one of the most powerful men of Edward I’s reign, and the tradition that Parliament once sat on the estate. Walking around the remains, you can imagine the castle as a residence rather than a fortress, built for status and comfort rather than battle. The surrounding village adds to the charm, making the location both scenic and atmospheric. It may be a ruin now, but it is one that tells a rich story and rewards those who enjoy history in a quiet, beautiful setting. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
Przemyslaw K — Google review
Although only ruins, as you can visit these for free and then visit the church next door, and nip into the cemetery, it is worth the visit for the atmospheric vibes en route to other nearby places. It also has an interesting history, so for me it was worth a higher rating than many of the other ruins I have seen.

Nestled along Belmont at the Town Walls, Shrewsbury Cathedral stands as a remarkable testament to Gothic Revival architecture. Commissioned by John Talbot, the 16th Earl of Shrewsbury, and designed by the talented Augustus Welby Pugin, this stunning Roman Catholic cathedral features seven exquisite Arts and Crafts-style stained-glass windows that captivate visitors.
Shrewsbury Cathedral has a sense of history and make you feel walking in that history when you step in. Very peaceful place not far from the river. Love the stain glass windows which creating an atmosphere. This Cathedral start in 1852 and finished in 1856 in four years. There is a cafe next in its yard and you can have a view around the old city wall. I like the entrance stairs and the outer view from the main door.

A beautiful small cathedral dating back to 1856. The cathedral is situated on the medieval town wall with lovely views across the river Severn. Inside it is very peaceful and tranquil with beautiful stained glass windows. Being located on the outskirts of the old town it is a fair walk from the town center, however there is a lovely Cafe (orchard Cafe) next door overlooking the cathedral for refreshments. Worthwhile a visit if in the area
Rob Y — Google review
Visited for the morning service. It was very busy, with full pomp and ceremony on show. The cathedral itself is pleasant, spacious but far from cavernous. It was easy to access and easy to find a seat. The ushers were friendly and helpful. The choir were very good but I do question the need to sing virtually every refrain, and elongate the response in the process. A pleasant moment of reflection.
Mark L — Google review
The Cathedral isn't huge but is a really interesting stop on a tour of the town. Quite honestly the altar with the figure of Christ above is spectacular. I have included a picture which really does not do it justice.

Lord Hill's Column is a prominent tourist attraction in Shrewsbury. Standing atop a 133.6-ft tall stone column, it features a magnificent statue of Lord Hill. Overlooking the town for many years, this iconic structure offers breathtaking views from its summit, making it a must-visit destination. Although weather damage has necessitated extensive repairs, there are still occasional open days that allow visitors to explore the inside of the column and appreciate its grandeur.
An absolute delight if you get the chance! Booking this is limited to a very few selected days / weeks throughout the year so should you grab a chance, do so asap. Some of the best views in Shrewsbury overlooking the town as well as Shropshire Hills. See if you can count the steps on the way up or down - Do the numbers match and which is easier?

It's in scaffolding right now with the fate of Shirehall in the balance. It's more than half a century since teenage me and my cycling friends on a trip from Cheshire borrowed the key, climbed to the top, then descended and paddled in the fountains. Happy memories.

The first thing you bump into when you get to Shrewsbury from the A5 is Lord Hill's Column.Lord Hill has been proudly standing high up overlooking Shrewsbury for many years. Once apun a time you were able to collect a key and walk up the inside and marvel at the views. The weather has unfortunately got the better of him and he has now has been extensively repaired. There has been talk of replacing him with a similar version.

Iconic Shrewsbury landmark - the tallest Doric Column in England. Commemorates Shropshire born Rowland Hill, one of the most distinguished field commanders in British military history who fought as a General alongside the Duke of Wellington. The statue requires major works and there is a fund to preserve or replace it with an exact replica. Sadly no visits to the top in the current pandemic.

A lovely place to walk with your dog and family. Great views too. Cafe has a good selection of food, plenty of benches to sit on. Public toilets to use. You do need to pay for the car park, think it’s about £2. Search “Haughmond Hill Car Park” to follow directions to make sure you arrive at the car park. If you use just ‘Haughmond Hill’ on Google you’ll end up on a country road. Walk ways are wide and you can let your dog off lead in certain areas. Kids can ride bikes on the pathways, but can be muddy in places.

Lovely place but signage is rubbish! We got lost because signage for the wellbeing trail just disappeared. This was a problem because my knees are bad... Haughmond hill is a wonderful place to come for a walk, stroll or day, whatever you like. The parking is plentiful and only £1 for 2 hours or £2 all day. Bring a picnic and enjoy a good walk to the viewpoint. Take a drink. Whilst we had floppy shoes, the ground is quite rough in places so trainers are best. If you want the easiest walk take the path to the right of the cafe as you look at it from the seating and that’s nice and smooth all the way. Lovely place - Enjoy your day.

The National Trust - Market Hall in Chipping Campden is a historic gem built in 1627 by Sir Baptist Hicks. It was originally constructed to provide shelter for market traders selling goods like butter, eggs, and poultry. The cobbled stone flooring bears the marks of centuries of foot traffic. Interestingly, the Market Hall narrowly escaped being sold and moved to America in the 1940s.
A lovely, lively town, full of character. It has beautiful, traditional stone buildings, and the streets are lined with quaint shops, cafes, and pubs. There’s a lot of history here, with a lovely church and old market place. It's a great place to explore, with plenty of places to stop and enjoy the local food. Chipping Camden feels a little busier than Snowshill, but it still has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It’s perfect for people who like a mix of history, shopping, and outdoor beauty.
Nivedha S — Google review
Is a lovely and well maintained building in the center of town. When we were there, a local market was running here with about 8-10 stalls. However, it’s a site that takes less than 5 minutes to see, and we didn’t feel was the highlight of our time in The Cotswolds or reason to go to Chipping Camden. I mean, if you are in the town, then walk by, but of all the things we saw on our road trip, this specific site was definitely over rated.
Alyssa B — Google review
Lovely little village but not much to do for children so very touristy as you'd expect - because that is the reason anyone comes here.
Michal B — Google review
On Sunday there are some stalls selling printings, weaving goods, antiques and glasses. We didn’t buy anything just a quick walk around for 10mins, the structure js stunning with authentic details, the uneven rock floors are very interesting.
Serena L — Google review
Five stars for longevity since constructed in 1627, for being the centre of Chipping Campden (CC) & National Trust historical landmark with timed car parking on one side. Built to provide shelter for traders then & still used as market on certain days. Cobbled floor is very uneven & there are gaps in the roof tiles as it probably was in its original state. More on CC village: loved its unaltered exterior of buildings on High Street since 14th century & the period buildings throughout the whole village. Oldest Grevel House built in 1380 is just a bit further from this Market Hall (at north end). Less touristy & without the huge coaches, it was relatively peaceful during my four day stay here in a nice cottage close to this Market Hall in Sept 2024. CC has olde world charm with coaching inns (now pubs & accom), Guild Craft workshops where you can buy hand crafted jewellery, medieval Church, Almshouses, thatched roof cottages with cloud hedges & much more... The village is a delight to wander around & walk the Cotswold Way - directions signposted & there is one beside this Market Hall.

A national trust property and still in use today. It was great to see that villagers still use this market hall as a market. When we visited there was a couple of stalls open and we stopped for a little look around before we set off on our walk to Broadway.

It is evident that working with these awe-inspiring creatures is more than just a job for them; it's a true passion. The adventure begins with Ivan, a Harris Hawk who enjoys leisurely following along instead of hunting for prey.
We had a fabulous time having an Owl Experience. We were able to see up close and have land on our arms, a wide range of beautiful owls. It was brilliant. If you're thinking of going, we'd recommend getting your tickets in advance as there are lots of deals available (depending on where you book the experience)

We had a fantastic hawk walk for my wife's 50th birthday. Steve was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his work, and has a deep understanding of the birds' personalities and behaviors, and was always happy to share his knowledge with us. Will and Karl were the two Harris Hawks that flew with us on the walk, not only were they majestic and beautiful birds of prey, but each had their own quirky personality. A fantastic morning and we would highly recommend a visit to anyone. Thank you Steve.
Robin T — Google review
We booked in advance and spent half a day with various birds. We did a walk through some nearby woodland with three free flying Harris Hawks, it was amazing to see them behaving so naturally and good to understand how much the falconers knew about the birds behaviour and what they were likely to do next. Then back at the base we fed some baby owls (it was springtime) they were about the size of a tea mug and hopped around the table without a care. Cute isn’t a strong enough word to describe them. We were lucky to have a Golden Eagle sit on our fists, surprisingly heavy. The highlight for me was swinging the lure for the free flying Peregrine Falcon, her speed and agility were very impressive. An excellent few hours which really made me appreciate these wonderful animals and all the work and dedication that goes into understanding what they need.

Received a 1-1 photography experience as a gift. From the start Lisa and Steve were fantastic, asking what I wanted to get out of my time with them and if there were any particular birds I wanted to photograph. The selection of birds they have in their care is spectacular! I was fortunate enough to meet some incredible birds and handled by two talented falconers who knew how to handle each to their best potential. I came away not bothered if I had any good pictures as I'd enjoyed my time so much I was satisfied just being there. My experience was personal, relaxed and well delivered. Would highly recommend to anyone considering!

I have just returned from hawkstone park hotel, I was tasked with finding somewhere for a captains away weekend for 40 members, Lauren was the first person that made contact with myself to start organising this weekend and no question was left unanswered, Lauren then had to go on maternity leave, Abby then took over and again nothing was to much trouble and Contact was fantastic throughout, I believe in first impressions are key. On walking into the reception on arrival I was greeted by Cheryl and the welcoming was amazing and the again nothing was any trouble, Cheryl organised for me to meet Abby as all this had been done via e-mail and phone calls previously. The whole weekend went a dream, and can you believe that I had no bad comments from any of the 40 members over the whole weekend. From walking into the reception and until all 40 members drove out of the car park on the day of leaving, the whole experience was unbelievable. All the staff involved across the whole hotel were absolutely brilliant. (Pro shop, catering, reception, cleaning, bar staff) literally all of them. There are too many to mention. Would i recommend it? Most definitely Will our golf club hold another captains away weekend here, I would say yes, we will be returning.

It's not great if vegetarian or gluten-free. Probably meets the needs of golfers. Nice meals are available throughout the day. Either in the restaurant or golf club. Within walking distance of the Hawkstone Park follies. There are some nice pubs in the nearby villages as well.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming throughout. The food was very good, with a simple menu offering 4–5 choices per course. Our room was spotless and comfortable. The hotel itself is full of character, reflecting its age, so it doesn’t have the look of a brand-new property, but this adds to its charm. The location is excellent—peaceful and just outside the towns. A wonderful spot for a short getaway, especially for those who enjoy golf. Another point to make is that it does not have a swimming pool so if you where to take kids with you this would be one less thing they could do.

2 rounds of golf, 1 nights stay, dinner and breakfast. Everyone is different but I had a great time, courses were great, weather was amazing, the staff couldn't be any more helpful, (especially the lovely lady at reception) nothing was too much trouble for anyone, the food was lovely aswell! Will definitely be going back at somepoint 🏌

I had my wedding here on the 8th August 2025. Abby and Howard did such a fantastic job. Our ceremony was in the cave at the follies, our reception was at the hotel. Our day was absolutely perfect and all our guests complimented all the work Abby and Howard did. The day ran smoothly and there was no stress or issues. The hotel was spotless and extremely clean. They moved our belongings to the bridal suite, and left us a lovely surprise when we retired to our room at night. The food was absolutely delicious. Food was delivered warm and in a timely manner. Abby even assisted me with setting everything up ready the day before my wedding. I cannot compliment Abby and Howard enough. Abby especially has been wonderful over the last 18 months of wedding planning. She has always been polite, responsive and so incredibly kind and welcoming to my family, guests and ourselves. Our wedding was a very long day and Abby and Howard were absolutely exceptional. We truly cannot thank you enough for giving us the wedding of our dreams. I would strongly recommend couples to get married at the follies, it an intimate wedding is preferred. It was beautiful and the views were just breathtaking. We had additional guests for our wedding breakfast, with further guests for our evening reception. All at the Hawkstone Park Hotel. Abby was very accommodating to our needs. Abby, Howard, we will never forget your kindness and hard work. Thank you both so much. We will forever be grateful. Highly recommend!!! x x x

We have just stayed for 2 nights for our beautiful friend’s wedding (8.8.25). The hotel was lovely, friendly helpful staff, They were very accommodating and supportive for the wedding. The catering was superb, the drinks were very reasonably priced for a hotel and the food was amazing, the only thing we could fault was the breakfast in the morning wasn’t as hot as we would have liked it but the actual produce itself was lovely. The staff getting us to and from the Follies for the wedding went above and beyond and really looked after the wedding guests with drinks and canapés and also giving us tour information about the history of the Follies itself. The room was superb, the bed so comfy, the curtains completely blacked out any light and it had everything you needed and more with touches like a fan, iron and ironing board, kettle and drinks/ milk sachets provided. I would definitely recommend this hotel, and I wish I had taken the names of the staff as I can’t thank them enough for making a special day even more amazing, especially the lady on reception, so thank you Hawkstone Park Hotel for all the work you have put in to making the wedding a day to remember and keeping all the guests well looked after 🥰

Haughmond Abbey is a ruined Augustinian abbey with parts dating back to the 12th century. The extensive remains include the abbots quarters, refectory, and cloister. The chapter house boasts medieval carvings and statues on its frontage and a 1500 timber roof. Visitors can explore the site with pictorial interpretation boards and an introductory exhibition of archaeological finds. There's also a nearby picnic area offering beautiful views over Shrewsbury's countryside.
Another one of those places that makes me love this country. Even though it's only two minutes off a busy A road the abbey has a peace about it that is lovely. There is plenty left to see that allows you to get a real sense of what Haughmond would have looked like in its hayday. There are loads of information boards around the site and a nice little room with plenty more information. It's free to enter, and they do offer a guide book for 3 pounds. You will need to take cash as they don't take cards. There is limited parking on site. Take care pulling back onto the main road as the junction isn't the best

English Heritage run site although it is free entry to all. What used to be a café has been converted into a single small room exhibition space with office, and there is a small car park beside. Beautiful ruins and lots of history, we enjoyed a picnic here for an hour or so and I could have spent more time admiring the landscape and carvings.

It’s free! It’s got a lot of history (900yrs) the ruins are impressive with information boards too. Great for a quick visit if this way, parking right outside the door, only down side is the track/drive from the main road is full of potholes only about 100m but you feel it.

Fantastic couple hours here, got talking with a local historian/volunteer I believe named Roger, massive thanks to him and his time to talk to me about the abbey and its vast history. He notified me of some interesting tours coming up next month including one by a stonemason which would be most intriguing as the abbey had many alterations and has been repurposed over the years. Fantastic day out thank you English Heritage.

The Quantum Leap Sculpture in Shrewsbury is a must-see for tourists. This fascinating piece of artwork offers an enjoyable experience as visitors follow the path and learn about Darwin's theory. It is an unusual modern sculpture that is definitely worth a look, making it an interesting addition to the town's art scene.
Intersting sculpture, standing proudly and hard to miss it, you can sit not far from it and eat sandwich, good location.

Loved this sculpture. Could have been better placed, it's kind of on a small bit of land all on it's own. Just across the road is a beautifull walk along the river with lovely recreational grounds and couldn't help thinking it would have been better appreciated there. But it's worth the visit and everything is only a short walk away away.

Quantum Leap is a Sculpture like a back bone or fish bone. It is located next to river Seven. It was created to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of evolutionist Charles Darwin who was born in the town in 1809. The sculpture was unveiled on 8 October 2009 by great-great-grandson of Darwin.

Jumpin Fun Inflatable Park Cheltenham is a 12,000 sq ft inflatable wonderland that promises an action-packed adventure for active and adventurous kids. The park features a Total Wipeout-style obstacle course, a mega slide, ball pit, and a massive air bag for jumping. It's an ideal spot to unleash energy on rainy days or host an exciting birthday party for kids aged 2 to 10.
If Willy Wonka swapped chocolate for trampolines and chaos for organization, you'd get Jumpin Fun Inflatable Park in Cheltenham. This place isn't just a hit for the kids – parents, you’ll find yourself questioning your life choices as you bounce alongside your little tornadoes and rediscover muscles you forgot existed. The place is clean enough to make a germaphobe sigh with relief, and the staff? Polite, organized, and ready to save you from yourself when you attempt a front flip you haven’t tried since 2003. (Pro tip: Stick to bouncing – dignity is key.) The pricing? Affordable enough that you won’t need to remortgage the house after a few rounds of bouncy bliss. And with comfy seating areas, it's a solid deal – kids bounce themselves into exhaustion while you sip coffee and regain your sanity. Final verdict: It’s like a trampoline park got a degree in fun and cleanliness. Just don’t be surprised if you’re the one begging for “five more minutes” when your kids are done. A solid 10/10 – would bounce again!

Took a group of kids here for my child’s birthday party on a really hot day. I was really impressed with the (young) staff team who were really helpful and efficient. Small things like hoovering up regularly and running the tap before filling up a jug of water so it would be cold. Very impressed.
Charis B — Google review
Took my kids here today and they absolutely loved it! Good fun for the whole hour and easy for us old folks to watch with a coffee (that was a little expensive 🙈). Only complaint would be some young staff members being openly homophobic whilst walking around near two women holding hands 😬. Other than that staff were fab, hoovering up messes and welcoming!

Great place for kids to let off steam. We booked a 2 hour session, unfortunately my 13 year old landed awkwardly hurting his ankle within the first 10 mins. He came upto me at the cafe but quickly felt off, turning very pale. The cafe assistant told us we could sit in the party room. When we got in there he momentarily fainted. Alex was quickly on hand not only to bring an ice pack for the ankle but to get him sorted with a cold drink and ensuring he was feeling more normal. As my son missed the bouncing with his brother and friend he emailed me a voucher for another session. Amazing customer service and will definatly return!

We normally go to Funky Warehouse on a Thursday, as they do a Home Ed session for a couple of hours. However, our daughter wanted to try something different, so we went to Jumpin Fun. We are so glad that we did. It was really quiet (Our daughter was the only one there) and one of the staff members spent the whole time making sure that our daughter had a great time. The young lady's name was Haleemah, and she was awesome with our daughter, Darcey. She had a fantastic time, really enjoyed herself. I was eventually forced to go on the huge slide with Darcey, who found it hilarious that I kept falling over on the way up to the slide. I honestly can't say that I particularly enjoyed the decent though. The rest of the staff we spoke to, were all very friendly and seemed to be happy to work there (always a plus if you love your job). We all ate while we were there, and we have to say that the food was also superb, and delivered right on time. I think that our only complaint would be that my partner could not get to the Café. This is up a long flight of stairs, and considering my partner has to use a power chair, there was no way of getting up there, so we had to stay downstairs, which was somewhat disappointing. There is plenty of room there, so maybe access for the disabled could be a consideration at some point. Our daughter, Darcey, now wants to go to Jumpin Fun, instead of the Funky Warehouse, so that's what we are going to do. Thursdays are now "Jumpin Fun" days. Thanks to all the staff, especially Haleemah, for making Darcey's day.

Home Farm Attingham is a hidden gem located near Shrewsbury, offering a tranquil and authentic farm experience. Visitors can enjoy the company of various animals that you would expect to see on a farm, as they eagerly approach for feeding. The park is well-suited for young children, providing them with an ample space to explore. The cafe at Home Farm offers delicious homemade cakes at reasonable prices, serving as the perfect spot to relax and refuel during your visit.
This is a brilliant day out for the family with brilliant value. It cost us £13 for me, my wife and our son with a tub of animal feed. There's a lot to see and do for a small site, the staff are friendly and helpful and the shop is small so has limited stock but the toys and food are good and well priced. It's dog friendly and there's a great little kids play lark. This is an example of how you can achieve a lot with a little. I really hope they continue to expand.

We had a fantastic time visiting with our toddler. The animals are well looked after and are friendly enough for kids to feed them. As well as the animals there is a play area and also a sensory type walk. There is also a cafe on site which serves a range of drinks and snacks and also different types of sandwiches, pastries and cakes. Some of the paths we struggled with our pram as they were a bit rocky but we could have coped without it as our toddler loves walking around as nothing was a massive distance away.

My little one loves going here. They have a wonderful mix of farm animals, which you can feed (the animal food to cheap here compared to other places). They also offer lamb milk feeding which is so cute. They have a barn with cars and bits in, a lovely park and a woods to walk through which help to provide variety and extend you visit. The food and drink is good quality (they have a variety of home baked goods) and for low prices.

We love it here. Several times a year we visit, we and our little boy have a great time. The animals, feeding, petting, the park, great owners and a well stocked cafe too!
David B — Google review
Lovely little farm trip with the kids! We spent a couple of hours at Home Farm at Attingham and had a great time. Staff were super friendly—farm workers even stopped to chat and tell us about the equipment and the peacocks, which the kids loved. The tea room was fab: fresh cakes, scones, sandwiches, snacks, and even farm sausages. There’s a small gift shop too, which was a nice touch. Lots for younger kids—ride-on tractors, a little park, and a nature walk with tree and bird info. Our teens enjoyed it too! You can buy a tub of food (£1.50) to feed most of the animals (just not ponies or donkeys). Clean, well signposted, and plenty of handwashing stations. You get a map when you arrive which helps. Only downside was finding it—sat nav took us the wrong way. Tip: go through Attingham House car park, head for the exit, and the farm is about 100 yards to the left. £20 for a family of five—great value for a relaxed afternoon out.

What a gem of a place just a short drive from Shrewsbury. Went on a Saturday morning and it was lovely and quiet, stayed a few hours and it didn't get overly busy. All the different animals you would expect to see at a farm, they love to come close to you to be fed. It's a working farm so had a really authentic feel to it. The park is a nice size for young children. The café was lovely, very reasonable prices and the homemade cakes were 👌 my only gripe would be that it wasn't very well signposted as to where it was from the main car park for attingham hall. Other than that a brilliant day out, will definitely be returning!

My daughter has just had her 6th birthday at the farm. And what a wonderful experience it was. Farmer Ben was amazing showing us round the farm. Nestled in the serene countryside, Langley Chapel is a charming gem that transports visitors back to the 14th century. This quaint chapel boasts an inviting interior adorned with exquisite 17th-century timber furnishings, including musicians' benches and ornate box pews that reflect the architectural style of post-Reformation England. The simplicity of Langley Chapel allows for a peaceful communion experience, free from the distractions often found in larger cathedrals.
Such beauty in simplicity, where you can focus on communion with Christ without the distractions found in cathedrals and traditional church buildings. A true Reformation-era chapel. I am sure the Lord was pleased with the worship here that was offered to Him.

Today we went to walk with the Alpacas @ Wildwood and it was brilliant. Sarah was most informative and we asked lots of questions which were all answered, and we all learnt something new about Alpacas. Our grandchildren were very excited and well behaved while on the walk and really enjoyed the experience. Followed by a birthday picnic in the on site hut with more food to feed the sheep and Alpacas. A great time was had by us all. Thank you Sarah 😊

What a truly lovely experience. The afternoon tea, and Paca & Pimm’s experience were booked as a birthday treat. The food was gorgeous, and plenty for 2 people. The owner (I forgot her name, sorry), met us and showed us to our little picnic area. She explained where to feed the alpacas, left us a tub of alpaca food, and pretty much left us to it. It was so peaceful and we had the whole area to ourselves. Once we’d eaten, it was off to feed the boys and girls. They are so cute. I love how they all have different personalities. You can definitely tell who’s the boss out of the boys and girls. There were some new babies there too. One had been born just the day before. Adorable! I recommend it to anyone who loves the tranquility of countryside, mixed with Alpacas and food! We will definitely visit again. Thank you.

5-Star Review: A Magical Alpaca Experience – Perfect for Families! We had the most incredible time at Wildwood Alpacas – it was truly unforgettable! I visited with my 5-year-old Son, 9 month old Daughter and a friend and from start to finish, everything was handled with such care and attention to detail. It was just our little group, which made it feel extra special and personal – no crowds, no rush, just us and the gorgeous alpacas. Sarah, the owner, was absolutely wonderful – warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about what she does. She took the time to introduce us to each of the alpacas, sharing their names, personalities, and fun facts that my son found fascinating. She was also amazing with him – patient, kind, and incredibly engaging, making sure he felt comfortable and included every step of the way. The alpacas themselves were stunning – so gentle, curious, and beautifully looked after. We got to feed them, walk alongside them, and even enjoy some quiet moments just watching them interact. My son was completely captivated – it was a joy to see him so relaxed and happy around these lovely animals. Everything about the experience was well thought out, safe, and tailored to our pace. You can tell how much love and care goes into every part of it – from the animals to the hospitality. I can’t recommend this experience enough, especially for families with young children. It was fun, educational, peaceful, and incredibly memorable. Thank you, Sarah, for sharing your time and your beautiful alpacas with us – we’ll definitely be back!

Only church in England's dedicated to St Eata St Eata's is a church with a fascinating history. The first church to St Eata is said to have been built in the eighth century but there is now little trace of this. A church was present on this site by 1075. The oldest part of the present church is in the nave and dates from the late Saxon or the early Norman era. The tower is probably from the 12th century, and the chancel from the late 13th century. The south porch is dated 1665. The church was restored in the late 19th century. The church is open every day during daylight hours and is well worth a visit

Beautifully situated church across River Severn from the local beach. A classic English view.

Quaint little place right next to the river, perfect place to relax or bring a picnic in the warmer months. Lots of old graves and the church was unlocked for a little look inside.

I love this church. If you find you need somewhere quiet to sit and think then this is the perfect place.

Abbey Gardens is a delightful park situated by the picturesque River Severn, adjacent to the English bridge. It boasts a diverse collection of ancient stoneworks, most of which were salvaged from vanished structures in Shrewsbury. This place holds historical significance, particularly with the inclusion of remnants like the scales of justice. On sunny days, it provides an idyllic setting for enjoying a sandwich while taking in the scenic views.
A very nice small park area on the banks of the river Severn near the English bridge next to Shrewsbury college. There are well maintained paths and a few benches to sit on and admire the beautiful views across the river . The park is very tranquil and peaceful with various remnants of stoneworks from old buildings of Shrewsbury. An ideal spot for a picnic whilst watching the river flow by. Well worth a visit.

The gardens feature mature trees, well-maintained paths, and several benches—perfect for sitting and watching the river flow by. Scattered throughout are intriguing stone fragments from old Shrewsbury buildings, adding a touch of historical charm to the setting. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to read, enjoy a picnic, or simply take a leisurely stroll, Abbey Gardens provides a lovely setting. Its proximity to the town center makes it an easy addition to any day out in Shrewsbury.

Small garden area with a few benches next to the river. Its not that big so not a huge amount to see or do.

Great views of river and english bridge.

The miscellaneous collection of stoneworks is great - the Gardens were formerly part of a stonemason's house - the famous Thomas Carline. Many are from long lost buildings of Shrewsbury eg the scales of justice. A lovely place on a sunny day to have a sandwich by the river.

I first found Abbey Gardens when I came to Shrewsbury for a date and she stood me up. I thought "This place is great. Much better than the agony of actually spending time with a human being." I totally came out on top, I think.

Caer Caradoc Hill, located in Shropshire, is a remarkable mountain peak that offers breathtaking views and a peaceful atmosphere. This impressive hill presents various route options and distances to choose from, making it an appealing destination for hikers. Despite appearing smaller than it actually is, the hike up the hill is not easy due to its steepness. However, the stunning vistas from the summit make it well worth the effort.
Great place ,beautiful views, not a very easy walk as a bit steep but definitely worth to walk. For me quite unclear signs.

What an amazing and special place this is. Limited parking alongside the road, but this place is alot less busy than the Wrekin. Wonderful day every time I come.
Mark B — Google review
Much more peaceful on this side as opposed to Carding Mill valley side. Impressive hill to walk up, bigger than it looks. Lots of route options and distances to choose from. Great views from summit.

(Translated by Google) Statue of Robert Clive. Clive is a controversial figure in Indian history. He is considered a hero by some for helping establish the British presence in India, but he is also considered a tyrant by others for his corruption and exploitation of India.
