Nestled in the heart of Regensburg's Old Town, Porta Praetoria stands as a remarkable testament to ancient Roman engineering and history. Erected in 179 AD, this monumental gateway once served as the northern entrance to the Roman military camp known as Castra Regina. Constructed from robust limestone blocks, it not only highlights the architectural prowess of its time but also offers visitors an intriguing insight into Regensburg's rich heritage.
We preserved old Roman area and wall in Regensburg Altstadt. Various explanation signs relay history of this area . Several tourist groups have this as a destination stop on their Regensburg Germany city tours. Free Handicapped doable. When in Regensburg, you must go see the Porta Praetoria. It is a gate preserved from Roman times. From what I understand, this was the Northernmost gate to the Danube River. It is only partially preserved but it is still such a cool sight to see when you are walking down the street and you see it. For me, it's always as great to see it as it was the very first time that I came across it, purely by chance. There is so much Roman history here. This city is so cool. It is located right behind the Regensburg Cathedral ( The Regensburg Dom). So, you make sure that you are on Domplatz then keep on walking, following the curve of Domplatz, it will curve to the right. Follow it, and the street becomes Krautermarktstraße. When you reach the end, turn right and you will be on Goliathstraße. Stay on it and it becomes Unter den Schwibbögen. You will immediately see the big Porta Praetoria to your right.
Mar Z — Google review
If you are expecting to see very much Roman-era building works here in Germany, you're probably going to be disappointed. Yes, they should be properly preserved and documented. But you will only see a very few stones in the outline of a gateway that look exactly like the photos. Cool, but not particularly destination-worthy on their own. I heard a guide tell someone that Pope Benedict used to live there. Not sure where they got that gem from (he didn't). Certainly worth a quick look-see if you're already in town.
Kate J — Google review
There is not much left of what once was a gate like the Porta Negra in Trier. Now the remains are incorporated in the buildings around. The gate was built in 179 CE as the northern gate to the Roman legionary fortess Castra Regina. In a Roman Military camp (castra) this was the main gate leading to the praetorium which was the commanders headquarters or residence. Hence the name.
Seimen B — Google review
a partly preserved roman gate north of the Alps and known also as the watergate, due to its location near the Danube river. made of Corinthian limestone. only part of it is visible for visitors.
David A — Google review
If you're a history buff, you've got to see this. Got to love those! Romans.
Francine J — Google review
It was restored based on the remains of some of the Roman gate. Therefore, if you know the historical meaning of this, you will take it meaningfully, but you don't know it, you can only see it just as a building. It is located in the old town.

Cathedral
Architectural Buildings
St. Peter Cathedral, a magnificent example of High Gothic architecture, stands proudly in the heart of Regensburg, dominating the skyline with its impressive bell towers. Originally constructed around 700 and later rebuilt in 1273 after a fire, this stunning cathedral is not only an architectural marvel but also home to the renowned Regensburger Domspatzen choir.
Amazing place to Visit. Such an incredible architectural work. But if you need to go inside, you have to see their religious activities time. Because at that time doors were closed to the visitors.every thing was fine and tremendous work and were well maintained to the future generation.
Kasun A — Google review
St. Peter’s Cathedral is absolutely breathtaking. The Gothic architecture is stunning, with soaring spires, intricate stonework, and beautiful stained glass windows that create a peaceful, awe-inspiring atmosphere inside. It’s hard not to be impressed by the history and craftsmanship. Even if you’re not typically into churches, this one is worth the stop. It’s right in the heart of Regensburg, so very easy to visit while exploring the old town. Highly recommend taking a few quiet moments inside—truly a highlight of the city.
Todd R — Google review
Massive pure Gernan gothic church that was built from the end of the 13th to the beginning of the 16th century using the architecture of French cathedrals as an example. The inside is dark and has beautiful details like the silver altar. The stained glass windows from the 13th and 14th century are impressive and the most extensive, still preserved, collection of medieval stained glass in the German-speaking world. An interesting detail was a large waterwell with a hoist and bucket inside the church which was used as a secure source of water for the clergy, cathedral staff and cleaning.
Seimen B — Google review
The cathedral is truly impressive! A magnificent structure that’s hundreds of years old. I can’t even say whether I liked it more from the outside or the inside. Every day in summer, the organ plays at noon, it’s absolutely amazing! An architectural masterpiece that definitely deserves attention. The only downside is that the exterior has been under renovation for many years.
Boltomatis — Google review
Learned so much about German history from our Viking excursion to Regensburg Cathedral. Stepping into this medieval masterpiece, we were instantly awed by its towering Gothic architecture and the sheer scale of the place. The amazing stained glass windows, glowing with centuries-old craftsmanship, were absolutely breathtaking. Our guide wove fascinating tales about the cathedral’s medieval sculptures and its historical significance as a key center of Christianity in Europe, making the past feel alive and vibrant. The world’s largest hanging organ was a true marvel, suspended like something out of a dream, and its presence added to the cathedral’s awe-inspiring atmosphere. Learning about the Regensburg bishopric’s influence gave us a deeper appreciation for the city’s role in shaping European history. This cathedral is a must-see for anyone visiting Regensburg—its beauty and stories will leave you speechless. Highly recommend making time for this incredible landmark!

Great experience. Today was the 75 anniversary of Caritas and St. Josef Hospital celebrated with bishop Rudolf and former cathedral choir member (Regensburger Domspatzen). Usually the holy mass is starting on Sundays at 10 a.m. Be early enough there to get a place!

Our tour guide told us this cathedral is always under some kinds of construction in one form or another 🤣 While we were here the towers were in repair and there’s a choir outside make Ng beautiful music.

Castle
Schloss St. Emmeram, Thurn und Taxis is a grand Rococo palace complex built on the site of a Benedictine monastery in Regensburg, Bavaria. This historic town, which was once the first capital of Bavaria and is now a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasts attractions like the stunning Regensburg Cathedral, patrician towers, and stone bridge.
What a magical Christmas market! We received discount admission vouchers from our hotel, shout out to Hotel Das Regensburg😉(and it was a very short walk). There are so many beautiful lights at night. Many food and gluwien options. Great handmade items for sale as well. Definitely worth the admission price. Don't miss this one!
Deanna W — Google review
Palace was much larger than I had anticipated and much more grand than I thought. Beautiful polished marble columns, statues and mosaic floors. Even though the tour is only in German, they provided my wife and I audio guides so that we could follow along and learn the history of the palace and the family that is still living there.
Philip S — Google review
LONG tour (90min) in German only and they are weird about taking photos. There are only a couple of German tours daily so plan ahead. The tour provides pretty basic audio guides in English. It IS odd to an American to keep hearing about German princes and princesses in the present tense, as well as 'princely' this and that. The old town bus does not loop even remotely close by, for unknown reasons. Once you're on the tour you're stuck for the duration. (I'm not much of a tour person). The tour areas inside are not air conditioned. Regensburg old town is fairly small but expect a full day of walking to and from everything.
Kate J — Google review
dated to the 19th century, a very strict guided tour allows you to see a part of the castle and Monastery. the tour costs 16€, in german and with audio guide for english speakers. the guide is very friendly and gives a lot of infos. you pass from the dinnerroom to fiesta hall to sleeping room to the chapel and then you take the stairs down to the monastery hallways with gothis arcades until the Court church. very impressive, dont forget to buy the guiding book since photography is not allowed.
David A — Google review

Very charming place, we have been to a concert of Christ de Burgh and it was an amazing experience.
Google review
Tour a functioning palace! We enjoyed the tour, though for English they give you a headset with recordings for most rooms. The guide spoke only in German to other guests, but would answer our questions when we asked. Can't take photos, but if you appreciate art, history, and want a peek at a unique home, I'd recommend it.
S G — Google review
I'm writing this mainly as a warning for well-meaning people who don't want to waste their money on some of the most disgusting people on the planet. The tour is nice and the tour guide was lovely, the house looks pretty but is not necessarily something super special and you can find castles like this all over Germany fortunately. The problem is the people who own this place. Not only do they actively ruin it by showcasing their own terrible taste, they also force the poor tour guide to praise them to high heavens... And for what? The matriarch of the family who's currently still alive is a racist and fascist who definitely should get some painting lessons because her self-made portraits are terrible, and her son, the little prince, is a failed racecar driver whose racing record I had to look up is nothing but failure. These people have the audacity to think that anyone in their right mind is coming to see this place for THEM, rather than for the possibly interesting history and art in the house. And my goodness do they like to showcase how entirely out of touch they are. One room has their "official portraits" in white tie, tiaras and all the jewelry money can buy to show off how rich and important they are (they are not important by the way), and the next room has 5 screens of the entire family who was still alive at the time of installment with "blinking portraits", which amount to a gif of them staring into the camera for 5 seconds showing them blinking, about which the guide said "they want to show they're just normal people like us", because they are in street clothes on these million euro portraits?? Other "highlights" of the tour include an 18th century room with a giant out of place model of a racecar, and an old marble staircase with some random fried egg looking art piece called "the sun rises over the Kilimanjaro". All in all, just don't go, you'll just leave angry at how obnoxious such a family is and you don't want to waste your time on them. If you want to go see some royals or something, go to the Netherlands or Belgium and check out their palaces, at least these people know how to shut up. If you want to see pretty castles, Bamberg, Munich, Würzburg, Bayreuth and Augsburg have equally or even more castles and there's a direct train going twice every hour to Vienna if you feel like visiting Schonbrunn. The great thing about those castles is, at least their residents didn't ruin it with terribly out-of-place modern "art" installations about themselves (mind you, I am a fan of actual modern art). At least you won't spend your hard-earned money on these out-of-touch good-for-nothings.

Discover the Walhallabahn - Walhallabockerl, a historic narrow-gauge railway that used to connect Regensburg-Stadtamhof to Worth an der Donau. The railway was named after the nearby Walhalla temple and was a popular mode of transportation in its time. Although it is no longer operational, visitors can still admire the preserved historic locomotive as a symbol of bygone eras in Regensburg.

(Translated by Google) The historic Walhalla Railway, affectionately known as the "Walhallabockerl," once ran from Regensburg to Wörth an der Donau and is remembered with nostalgia today. POSITIVE: + Historical significance: Opened in 1889 as a meter-gauge narrow-gauge railway from Regensburg to Donaustauf, later extended to Wörth. It originally served to improve access to Walhalla, the temple of King Ludwig I. It was an important link for passenger and freight transport in the region, especially for visitors, quarry operations, and local businesses. The line was 23.4 km long, with a maximum gradient of 33 ‰, technically challenging for the time. + Folk culture charm: The nickname "Walhallabockerl" testifies to local ties and fond memories. Many Regensburg residents associate the railway with childhood memories, excursions, and family stories. The railway ran through picturesque towns such as Tegernheim, Donaustauf, Bach, and Wiesent, which also made it scenically attractive. NEGATIVE: - The railway was finally closed in 1968, which many considered a loss for the region. - Unfortunately, there is no tourist replica or museum railway today, although there would be interest. CONCLUSION: A brief glimpse into the past that can be beautifully integrated into a city tour.

When you visit Regensburg, don't miss the breathtaking postcard view from the Steinerne Brucke, or Stone Bridge. This remarkable structure, built in the 12th century, boasts 16 arches that gracefully span the Danube River. As you take in the panoramic sights of Altstadt's rooftops and spires, you'll appreciate how this engineering marvel once connected northern Europe to Venice, transforming Regensburg into a bustling trading hub.

Haidplatz is a picturesque triangular square located in the heart of Regensburg's Old Town. This historic square has been witness to medieval jousting tournaments and is home to the impressive Golden Cross, an early Gothic castle with origins dating back to the 13th century. The area surrounding Haidplatz is easily walkable and offers accommodations in historic buildings, providing convenient access to major attractions such as St. Peter Cathedral.
Wish we had more time to visit Passau. We were pleasantly surprised with this magnificant city and all the history. Lovely restaurants and shops to choose from.

Haidplatz is one of the most beautiful squares in Regensburg, and walking around it really captures the city’s positive and welcoming atmosphere. I loved just strolling here, surrounded by the historic buildings and lively cafés—it feels like the heart of a perfect European old town. Interesting fact: Haidplatz is one of Regensburg’s oldest squares, dating back to the Middle Ages, and it used to be a popular venue for tournaments and knightly games in the 14th and 15th centuries. Today, instead of jousts, it’s full of culture, cafés, and events, but it still keeps that historic charm.

Definitely check this place out!! The oldest running restaurant in the world!! The wurst and kraut is AMAZING! You can’t beat it! We sat outside next to the river. Afterwards we walked up to the bridge and grabbed ice cream, and then walked all around the village. There are SO many cute shops for shopping and things to be seen. Don’t worry about getting lost, everywhere you go will be picturesque! Also, check out the cathedral! It is quite impressive. And you can go inside! It’s so beautiful and reminds me of a mini Notre dame!
Hailey F — Google review
Haid: Comes from the Middle High German word "Heide," meaning an uncultivated field or meadow. Platz: The German word for "square" or "place". Therefore, Haidplatz directly refers to the "Meadow Square" or "Field Square," a name that reflects its historical origins as an open, undeveloped expanse
Rita P — Google review

Haidplatz is a triangular shaped public square in the heart of Regensburg that dates back to the Middle Ages. Here you'll find impressive buildings that are enjoyable to see while sightseeing around the city centre. We visited during December when the square was hosting the Lucrenzia Christmas Market, seeing a handful of stalls setup selling gluhwein, traditional holiday foods and a small assortment of seasonal items and decorations. That added to the nice atmosphere of this particular square in Regensburg

The Old Stone Bridge, also known as Steinerne Brucke, is a historic medieval bridge in Regensburg, Germany. Constructed in the 1100s in Romanesque style, it spans 300m over the Danube River with its impressive 16 arches. For over 800 years, it served as the city's sole river crossing and played a crucial role in trade and government activities.
Visited on Sunday and was so busy at that time on the bridge. so stunning views and the wind come from the Danube river make so much of a pretty environment there. The perfect place to stay and enjoy your vacation day. The river bank of the Danube is so stunning in the afternoon.

The House of Bavarian History is a captivating museum showcasing the rich history of Bavaria through over 1,000 exhibits, including gilded sleds and carriages once owned by King Ludwig II. The museum, which opened in 2019, has received acclaim for its modern architecture and covers an expansive 2,500 square meters. Visitors can enjoy multimedia displays that bring the history of Bavaria to life.
Excellent museum. Every first Sunday like today and also because of the Regensburg Marathon the entrance was free. Very interesting place with many different exhibitions, temporary like one on Emperor Kaiser Ludwig I but also the permanent on the history of Baviera and its many facets as you can see clearly from the pictures, from Napoleonic wars to the different emperors, to sports or political life in the state, different experiences with politics or Nazism, literature or other cultural practices. It seems to me that it gives a very good and complete picture of what Bavaria is and was and of its many faces like a huge mosaic. Also well designed for kids, families and it has for everyone something. Also accessible for handycapped persons, has a library, lockers and a restaurant is next to it with a nice terrace.

Initially, I so disliked the outside of the museum, I resisted going, but once I visited, I just loved it. The permanent exhibits are very well done and accessible to English-speakers. The displays are often interactive and engaging - it is a very modern museum - and I learned so much about the area!

Originally built as a residence and commercial space for affluent merchants, this medieval building showcases a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architectural elements. The stunning mural adorning its facade attracts numerous visitors keen on experiencing its historical charm.

Beautiful painting from the past. Giant and impressive
N 1 — Google review
One of the many interesting buildings to see in Historic city centre of Regensburg is the Goliathhaus (Goliath House) which was built along Goliathstraße in 1260. What makes this heritage building particular unique and interesting to see is the large scale mural of a fight between David and Goliath, which you will see while approaching from the north from Brückstraße. The mural was created in 1573 and depicts Goliath as the massive giant in armour, reaching upward several floors. His left arm is shown cleverly resting on one of the building windows while he peers downward towards David. By comparison, David is much smaller, bent over, preparing to sling a stone towards Goliath. We know how the story goes after this scene.

Nice museum shared with the church attached to it. It's very good on the prehistoric time of Regensburg and then jumps to Roman and Medieval times. The Roma period in Regensburg is well represented. The Medieval period is rather "laconic" and centred on religious history. A good visit if in Regensburg.

An old Romanesque monastery with a wonderfully impressive gate. This Romanesque beauty is to the west of the old town of Regensburg and has a magnificently grotesque gateway. The tale of Goliath and David recounts the legendary battle between a Philistine warrior named Goliath and a young patriot, David. Goliath, a descendant of giants, is known for his formidable strength and is mentioned in the Bible. The story culminates in a dramatic single combat between the two figures, ultimately shaping the destiny of Israel's future king.
The story of David and Goliath David faces Goliath in single combat. Goliath (גָּלְיָת Hebrew Golyat) was a legendary Philistine warrior written of in the Bible. A descendant of Rapha in a lineage of giants, he is most famous for his battle with David, the young patriot who would later become the King of Israel. In rabbinical tradition, Goliath, hailing from Goth, one of five ancient city states in Philistia, is said to be the very warrior who had earlier captured the Ark of the Covenant from the Israelites in the mid eleventh century B.C.E. The account of David and Goliath (Jaloot) is given both in the Hebrew Bible and in the Qur'an. Recent archaeological evidence suggests that even if no race of giants actually existed in Gath at this time, a name similar to "Goliath" was indeed used in the area. An alternate biblical account says that Goliath was killed by a man name Elhanan, rather than David.

Rathaus is one of the most historically significant buildings in Regensburg. With its origins dating back to the 13th century, it served not only as the seat of the city council, but also as a key political centre of the Holy Roman Empire. From 1663 to 1806, its Reichssaal hosted the Perpetual Imperial Diet (Immerwährender Reichstag) – a unique institution of European diplomacy. Today, the building combines Gothic and Baroque elements and houses a museum that offers guided tours through the historic council chamber, courtroom, prison cells and interrogation room. The Altes Rathaus complex is accessible via guided tours which generally run between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with extended hours to 5:00 PM in the peak season (April–October). Tours commonly start at 10:00, 11:30, 13:30, 14:00, 15:00 and 15:30. Guided tours are usually conducted in German—English tours are available by prior arrangement through the local tourist office.

Historische Wurstkuchl, also known as the Historic Sausage Kitchen, is a 500-year-old restaurant located in Regensburg. Originally serving as an office during the construction of the Stone Bridge, it later became an inn catering to various workers and travelers. Today, it remains a historic gem where visitors can savor traditional bratwurst with sauerkraut and homemade mustard.
On a trip from Berlin to Prague we decided to stop and look for lunch in a picturesque German river town called Regensburg. We walked down the old narrow streets looking for something to eat, and by chance we found a small riverside building that had quite a lively crowds. This kitchen specialized in bratwursts, and I am not lying when I say these were rhetorical best brats I've ever had. Throughout our entire trip through Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, this was not only the best bratwurst, but it was the best meal. Nothing fancy, small grilled brats laid upon small but firm roll, and topped with the most flavorful deli mustard. We ordered several of these brats, and they were very affordable. The service was great, and the brats came out very quickly. You can peak inside the kitchen and see the grill masters hard at work. Then you get a tray designed to perfectly hold the brats as you take them to an outdoor table where you have a gorgeous view of the Old Stone Bridge that crosses the Danube. We later found out that this kitchen is historic. It is the oldest continuously open restaurant in the world. Some tips: Order a few per person. They are hearty, but relatively small. You won't mind filling up on them. Also, you can order the mustard online. I recently purchased some to have on hand. Cheers!!
Nicholas S — Google review
This is a super popular riverside restaurant with plenty of seatings but it’s so hard to get one of those nice outdoor tables. 😄 Our grilled sausages & sauerkraut, potato soup, roasted pork & dumplings was very tasty but slow. This is a definitely a tourist destination both good and bad.

Our Yelp pal Hal totally nailed it with his recommendation for Historische Wurstkuchl in Regensburg—what a spot! Stepping into this place feels like time-traveling; the back wall is over a thousand years old, and according to Hal, it’s the world’s oldest sausage stall. The sausages were fantastic, flavorful, and at just 4 euros, it’s a steal. We grabbed a few bottles of their famous mustard to bring home, which we’re already excited to crack open. Whether you’re eating in or taking it to go, the vibe here is unbeatable. The setting right by the 700-year-old Stone Bridge and the Danube River is just perfect—charming and picturesque. Service was a bit slow, but once we ordered, the food came out lightning fast, so no complaints there. It’s such a unique spot, blending history with delicious eats. Highly recommend swinging by Historische Wurstkuchl for a quick, tasty bite and a dose of Regensburg’s incredible past!
Regis K — Google review
It’s a nice setting and the food is great and so is the beer. Great view of the bridge and close to a lot of things. They were pretty busy for a Saturday and toward the end we felt ignored but that can happen anywhere.
Amy H — Google review
Expect very long waiting times for the to-go/take-away sausages. The sausages were good. The whole history was very interesting. If you‘re ever in town, grab some some to try! Highly recommended.
Seb B — Google review
We were in downtown Regensburg by the old town bridge and were looking for some German food, given we only visit Europe every couple of years. Now, eating along the river near the old bridge can be a daunting task because of the potential wait, and food costs. However, two of us decided to share a dish of sauerkraut and sausages, along with some soup. The food was great, the service was good, and the staff professional. I hope that if you decide to visit this restaurant that your experience will be as good or better than mine.
Geo-T22 P — Google review
I’m gonna tell you not to go here. But you’re gonna go anyway. I mean, it’s supposedly the longest continuously running restaurant in the world. Started way back as place for the bridge builders to get food while they were building the bridge (which is worth the visit) it basically stayed open in one form or another ever since. And that was like, 900 yrs ago! Anyway. I say don’t go because it’s a super tourist trap. Basically overpriced sausage and beer with slow and uncaring service. But hey, go and say you’ve been there and then go anywhere else. If you do: wait in line for take away, it appears to be much cheaper and you can say you got food from it.

Weltenburger am Dom is a charming restaurant and beer hall located on the Domplatz, near the Alter Kornmarkt. It is owned by Kloster Andechs, a Benedictine monastery with a long history of brewing its own beer. The restaurant offers hearty Bavarian cuisine and a variety of craft beers. In the summer, guests can dine in two outdoor areas: the Domterrasse with views of the cathedral and the Biergarten in the historic building's courtyard.
I was here for dinner with my colleagues. We didn't have any reservations and still got seats for 4 on a Thursday night. The restaurant was big and looked like a typical Bavarian style which is well preserved. I had their classic asam bockbeer schnitzel. The schnitzel was delicious with the beer sauce and on top of that the fried onion took the whole thing to another level. I had asam bockbeer which was delicious with a little sweet touch. Because of the taste I couldn't try any other beer from there. The service was great. Public parking is available next to the restaurant.

Lovely restaurant in the heart of the city. The food was absolutely delicious, with well balanced flavors and great attention to detail. The girl who served us was incredibly kind, attentive, and highly professional, she made us feel welcome from the start and gave us excellent recommendations that truly elevated our experience. A delightful evening I’d love to repeat

The Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady Regensburg is an extremely old Catholic church located in Regensburg, Bavaria. The church has been in use for over a thousand years and is one of Bavaria's oldest places of worship.
This is the oldest church in Bavaria, built in the early medieval era and redesigned in the Baroque age. The interior features Rococo art at its finest. There is an internal fence for security but it doesn't obscure the views. The side chapel has no fence and had stunning rococo art adorning its ceiling.

Gorgeous, light, white, gold, airy. Fabulous example of German rococo. Well worth the time to visit. The entrance is from the square, not the street.

Sad that it's closed with fence but you can still make photos and enjoy the gorgeous views

Extremely beautiful! I am really lucky that since I am there early, the priest decided to open the gate let me in for 5 minutes! He even switched on all the light to show me how beautiful this church is!! The most impressive 5 minutes I had in Regensburg!

The Roman Catholic Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Old Chapel (short: Collegiate Church of the Old Chapel or Old Chapel) on the Old Kornmarkt in Regensburg is the main church of the collegiate monastery of Our Lady of the Old Chapel, the oldest existing collegiate monastery in Bavaria, and the oldest Church of Regensburg. In terms of art history, it is considered one of the most important rococo churches in Bavaria. According to legend, it is also said to be the oldest church and therefore the mother church of Bavaria, from which the Christianization of the country began, and stands on the site of a Roman temple to Juno. The core of today's building dates back to the Ottonian period, when the collegiate monastery was founded in 1002 by Henry II and his wife Kunigunde. The elevated choir, on the other hand, was only built in the middle of the 15th century and is designed in the late Gothic style. After a thorough redesign in the second half of the 18th century, the rococo style dominates the interior.

The Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady is the oldest Catholic place of worship in Bavaria and one of the most important churches in Regensburg. It is located on Alter Kornmarkt to the east of Dom St. Peter's in the historic city centre. The church was originally founded around 1000 when a Romanesque abbey was built at this location. In the 18th-century the interior nave was given a Baroque and Rococo redesign. It is considered a Rococo masterpiece in the manner of the Wessobrunn School. The exterior is rather subtle and unassuming. However, once you enter the main chapel area, you will see an immaculate nave and interior with ornate decoration, endless gilding, artworks, ceiling fresco and elaborate high altar. There is much to feast your eyes upon within Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady. It is well worth simply taking a seat and enjoying what is around and above you within the church. Note, you can conveniently visit Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady before or after other interesting churches in the area. These include the Carmelite Church of St. Joseph on the other side of the square and St. Peter's Cathedral just a couple minutes walk west of this location.

St. Emmeram's Abbey, also known as Schloss Thurn und Taxis, is a historical site in Regensburg, Germany. Founded in the 7th century as a monastery, it was later converted into a palace for the Thurn und Taxis family. The abbey complex features a Romanesque basilica with Baroque interior and includes the remains of the 13th-century Herzogshof.
An ancient, very beautiful and worth seeing basilica, away from mass tourism, built around 780 as the church of St. Emmeram, during the following centuries it was expanded and made a princely abbey in 1731. In 1964 it was finally elevated to the status of a “minor basilica” by Pope Paul VI. Beautifully designed inside, definitely have a look!
Alex S — Google review
One of the most interesting historic churches we visited recently in Regensburg is that St. Emmeram, a Basilica minor located at Emmeramsplatz next to the Thurn and Taxis Palace. The church history dates back to 780AD and is considered a National Shrine in Bavaria. There are quite a few interesting things to see at St. Emmeram. The church is a mixture of Romanesque and Baroque architecture. The main portion of the church nave dates back to the 8th-century but was given a High Baroque makeover by the regionally important Bavarian architects Asam Brothers in the early 18th-century. The high altar, pulpit, ceiling fresco and numerous decorations with gilding create a beautiful interior. There is a 11th-century crypt with important tombs in the back that is worth a quick visit. Given the church age, its worth reading up on its history before or during your visit. This will help create context to what you are seeing at St. Emmeram Basilica in Regensburg.

A brooding and beautiful church building in a wealthy monastery. Filled with lavish tombs in the dark Baroque splendour, this monastery church is peaceful, creepy, and wonderful all at once. The preserved corpses of saints in glass coffins make it a little macabre, but for those who are into it, it is well worth visiting.

CinemaxX Regensburg is a fantastic destination for movie lovers, offering a modern and well-maintained environment that elevates the cinema experience. With its sleek design, large screens, and excellent sound quality, every film feels immersive. The seating is particularly comfortable with ample legroom, ensuring you can enjoy your favorite flicks without discomfort. Visitors have noted the friendly staff who enhance the overall ambiance of this sophisticated venue.
Very nice cinema with comfortable chairs - any row is fine to view the screen just fine because the rows are apart from each other far enough! We also got ourselves the jumbo reusable bottle that must hold like 2-3 liters!
Stefan H — Google review
I recently had the chance to visit CinemaxX Regensburg for a Telugu movie, and I have to say, it was a great experience! The theater is modern and well-maintained, with a sleek design that makes it feel more upscale than your average cinema. The screens are large, and the sound quality is excellent, really enhancing the movie-watching experience. The seats are comfortable with plenty of legroom, which is always a plus. I also liked that they have a variety of seating options, but I wish they had more premium recliner seats. The theater was clean, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The concessions are what you'd expect at a standard movie theater. The popcorn was fresh, and they had a decent selection of snacks and drinks, though the prices were a bit high, as usual. The only slight drawback was that the theatre didn't use air conditioning because of the lack of crowds. It's a bit much for a well-known theatre to behave like it's trying to save money. Also, parking in the area can be tricky at peak times. All in all, I'd say CinemaxX Regensburg is a great option for a movie night. I'd definitely go back! Only 4 star: It's missing a few key features, like recliner seating and for not using air conditioning.
Kranthi M — Google review
An absolute beautiful Cinema. But it's idiotic, you choose to buy tickets online in advance and you actually save the Theater on some of their personnel cost, and then you realize it's indeed over 2€ per ticket more expensive than buying them directly there. Two online tickets and with two popcorn combos, over 50€. As a monthly Date night opinion, it's a fantastic time, but it's slowly getting too expensive.

Lots of advertising for OV movies. But unfortunately OV is only shown on release date and after that apparently never again. They shouldn’t advertise it if they do it only once. Wanted to watch Naked Gun or Mission Impossible in OV on the weekend. Not possible. Watched Freakier Friday instead, the only choice today. Apart from that it’s a nice cinema. Drinks and snacks overpriced as usual. €5,90 for a 0,33 Heineken is heavy. Infrastructure and systems are on the higher end. Reclining seats kinda come back at you. It’s all right. I just ask for more OV really.

Was there to watch lord of the rings for 12 hours straight, absolutely amazing and kind staff, Especially when it was quiet the staff was very nice, the prices weren't as bad as i expected But it's 4 stars because after a while in the theater room itself it really started to become a hard to breathe in air quality, yes there were breaks but i forgot to go out so i had to leave for a bit during the movie, couldve also just been me But overall very good, definitely will visit again

Today we had a really bad experience for Oppenheimer movie. The air conditioner was off and we were sweating during the movie. Additionally the seats were making noise when we leaned forward. And lastly some random guys were sitting on our seats and when we asked them to move, they asked us to seat to some other seats. Sound quality - 3/5 (voice needs to be clearer) Seats - 4/5 (overall comfortable but needs maintenance) Cinema hall -3/5 (only one entrance which interferes the movie experience when someone uses for an exit)

The Stadtrundfahrt Regensburg - CITY TOUR is a 45-minute guided tour that provides an introduction to the Old Town and the rich history of Regensburg.
I enjoyed the excursion! The price is 10 euro for around 40 minutes. There is installed audio guide and the driver gives you headphones so it's nice to learn about the city that way
Evgeniia — Google review
Nice little trip around the old city in a "train", with good audio commentary. Might be a touch of green-washing here, at least as far as the information in the pamphlet/flyer/leaflet goes. The "train" engine on my tour did not seem to be electric; "our electric-train Emma" according to the flyer. When we set off you could clearly smell fumes from an engine (diesel?). Cute engine, but not the one depicted on the flyer. If the pamphlet had indicated one carriage had audio commentary available in multiple languages via plugin, wired, headphones I could have brought my own. Headphones /wired ear buds are provided for the passangers in that wagon, but they aren't collected at the end. So, as wasteful as the "free" ear buds airlines provide. But it's still a GREAT way to get a feel for the fantastic old city & an orientation - in time & space. And the coupon for a coffee at the Weissbräuhaus... much better to try a weißbier & put the 1.50 € towards that 🍻
David H — Google review
It is one of the best ways to see the city before you start your in-depth visit of each site. It was hot on the day during our visit. The train does not have AC. It was quiet hot, but once the train starts moving it was bearable. The audio tour itself was very informative.

(Translated by Google) It's an absolute joke at the stadium: parking meters are barely signposted, €25 fines for parking during a game – and the answer on the phone is simply, "It's always been this way." It's also fitting for the city administration, whose former mayor made headlines for taking bribes. Apparently, they prefer formal regulations and bureaucracy to customer service or common sense. As a result, you feel more like a cash cow than a valued visitor.
Matthias ( — Google review
(Translated by Google) Concerns the city's street planning. This one actually deserves 0/5. The city is apparently pursuing public transport and cycling to increase so far so good. Will public transport be made cheaper? No. Are cycle paths being expanded? No. Is driving a car made unattractive by intentionally impractical road layout? Yes! The city of Regensburg has achieved the masterpiece: it now has 3 unattractive options for getting around. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely in favor of making bicycles more attractive and also public transport. But the wrong approach is being taken here. Instead of making something more attractive, the less desirable means of transport is made less attractive. Short example: you are no longer allowed to drive the 150 meters from Dachauplatz to the bridge at the lower Wöhrd. Nobody knows why. So far so old known. But now the city of Regensburg has closed the passage through Minoritenweg today. This means that you have to take a huge detour through the city if you want to go towards DEZ. This has done a disservice to environmental protection. You drive longer, stand at more traffic lights with questionably long red phases and use more gasoline. With a bicycle you have the well-known problem that there are not clean cycle paths everywhere and people ride against the direction of traffic because finding the way is more convenient that way. This makes cycling in the city a danger to life and limb. For everyone in office who is now saying take the bus: take the bus yourself, experience it first hand and discover the joys of the RVV (Original) Betrifft die Straßenplanung der Stadt. Soweit so alt bekannt.

We found the restaurant while we were looking for another resturant which is on the top list of the place to eat in Regensburg at TripAdvisor. While we were passing by, I noticed two guys drinking beer. The beer looked great and I asked my wife to stop and drink beer before we go to the restaurant we were looking for. We ordered our beer and booooommmm. The best beer I have drunk in my life. Then I asked the waiter whether they served food or not. He siad yes. We ordered schnitzel. I am not exaggrating, one of the best I have eaten. And the potato (french) fries, awesome. We had two liters of beer, two schnitzel and we paud 63 Euro including the service. I definitely reccommend this restaurant. You won't regret.

Came by for a family dinner and sat outside right on the edge. Very hectic and noisy. Not the most ideal spot with a small kid. Friendly waiter. Prices fairly high, price for a cordon blue at 21,90€ not quite justified. Food overall tasted alright but, again, didn’t justify the price. (Also got misled by previous google reviews in regards to the menu and prices - but that’s not the restaurant’s fault). Menu in German AND English

It is a nice option downtown Regensburg for traditional Bavarian food. The atmosphere is great, inside the restaurant there’s some nice and shiny brewing tanks and the decoration is typical Bavarian. The pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe) is pretty good, but this time was slightly overdone on the outside which gave a bitter flavour to it therefore the 4* rating, but the skin was nice and crispy so it was still enjoyable. Try also the Weißbier sampler if you wanna taste all the varieties they offer without getting too drunk.

If you are in Regensburg and want to get perfect, authentic, delicious Bavarian food with great and friendly service, this is absolutely the place to go to. Portions are large, but the food is so good, that the size of the portion only means you get to eat more of the great food this place serves. 10/10 would recommend.

The Osteria in Nuremberg is the perfect place for anyone looking for an inviting atmosphere and a wide range of delicious food and drinks. Here you can find everything from hearty pizzas to Italian and Mediterranean delicacies, as well as döner kebabs and juicy burgers. The diverse menu also offers vegetarian options and halal dishes, so there is something for every taste.
Typical yummy L’Osteria taste. Friendly, smiling waitress despite the enormous heat that day! Pizzas are big, can be shared and each half can be different. Kids pizza available. (Choice limited) The place itself is not great. A big room with many tables. Not very cozy. It can get very loud to a point where it’s hard to have a conversation. Due to the open kitchen and the open windows it can get extremely hot in the dining area. Table reservation recommended.

Food is SO good. The pizzas are huge, but can order half or split it with all different toppings on each half too. Pasta super yummy too. The quinoa salad is to die for. don’t forget the lambrusco either! Staff is nice and fairly attentive.

Great pizza! Giant! We had no reservation but they did accommodate, service was ok as they were busy but no complains since they accommodated us. Atmosphere was nice but it seems that is more for a younger crowd. Although you will feel welcomed regardless of your age.

Amazing Italian spot! Fresh pasta, perfect (large) pizza, and great atmosphere 😊 Highly recommend🤩

You can combine two pizzas (half and half) which is nice. Pizzas were really lovely (even the next day) and yes, concept of L’Osteria pizzas and their sizes is in every L’Osteria in every country. I guess you can ask for regular size, but bigger pizza is more fun.

Used to the superb L'Osterias in Prague, I couldn't help but be a bit disappointed by the pizzas here. It was quite ordinary, dry, and completely different. The portion is still huge though, and the place nice.

The L’Osteria in Regensburg is our go to spot for lunch or dinner whenever we want great food for an affordable price, many options and great service! The staff is always willing to help and very efficient. We especially appreciate the option to split a pizza for two people, where we can both get a different kind - it’s perfect for when you’re craving pizza but don’t feel like having a huge portion.😊 Can’t recommend this place enough.

Beer garden
Bavarian restaurant
Spitalgarten is a 13th-century inn restaurant offering Bavarian food and beer, featuring a large terrace with scenic views of the bridge. It's one of the popular beer gardens in Regensburg, known for its communal dining style and variety of local brews. Situated across the Danube River on the Old Stone Bridge, it provides a picturesque setting with medieval skyline views including the cathedral and river.
Great restaurant with amazing food. We visited few restaurants and this one was the best! Local beer is pretty good. And sausages with these dips are just heaven in your mouth! Definitely will visit again for another relaxing Sunday lunch next to the river.
Pavel B — Google review
Very nice, traditional and historical restaurant right on the shore of the river. Open air and inside big restaurant. Great service, and the owner even fulfilled the wish of my father and gifted us their authentic beer mug. I rarely like German restaurants, and this is one in million! Highly recommended 😍
Sabir T — Google review
A quintessential Bavarian beer garden experience awaits on the Danube’s banks, perfectly positioned across from the historic stone bridge. This charming spot offers excellent regional specialties like Obatzda, complemented by fresh beer enjoyed beneath the shade of magnificent old chestnut trees – don’t forget to use a beer coaster to protect your glass! The staff strikes the perfect balance between relaxed hospitality and attentive service, ensuring your glass never runs dry. What makes this location particularly special is its slightly removed position from the bustling city center, creating a more genuine atmosphere where locals and visitors mingle naturally. The scenic walk across the river from the old town rewards you with this less crowded gem that captures the essence of Bavarian beer culture. Absolutely worth the visit – a total recommendation. All in all total recommendation …

I only went to the beer garden so I don't know how the hotel is. What I like about this place is the friendly and fast service, the menu, and the fact that it is dog friendly. The beer is good. The menu has multiple vegan options prepared with creativity and love. My vegan salad made out of chick peas and sweet potatoes was delicious. You ask for water for the dog and get fresh water in a dog bowl. The location is close enough to downtown but it doesn't feel like a tourist trap. When I'm in town, I definitely go there again.

Really cool grabbing a bite and beer in an 800 year old brewery. On point for the old town for sure and nicely off the path but on the Danube. Beer was excellent. Pretzel was excellent. The vegetarian “pate” selection was super creative, interesting, and tasty.

Rude and unpleasant waitress. We don't understand German, she asked "what do you want from me?" when I asked for help with choosing food. I don't recommend this place! Response to the owner's reaction. Your response does not explain the rude behavior and words of the waitress. And we took the very table that your receptionist showed us at the entrance. Perhaps you should coordinate the actions of the right and left hands...

Food and drinks were very good, the environment cozy and relaxing. The only negative aspect: the waitress didn't ask whether we wanted to leave a tip and just selected the option himself (+ €3.90, we paid €26.90 instead of €23.30).

Burgers were good, but the sweet potato fries were way too salty. I was seated upstairs right next to the walking path and kept getting bumped by waiters and guests, they should really remove a few tables to make more space. The place itself is nice and the service was good, but these things made the visit a bit uncomfortable.

In the heart of Regensburg, stands the impressive bronze statue of John of Austria, a tribute to 16th-century art. Erected in 1978 on Zieroldsplatz, near Rathausplatz, this monument commemorates the fourth centenary of his death. Born into royalty in Regensburg, John of Austria was celebrated for his victorious naval battles against the Ottoman and Christian fleets.

(Translated by Google) Don Juan D'Austria, born in Regensburg, was commander of the Spanish fleet and governor of the Habsburg Netherlands. He was born in Regensburg, the product of an extramarital affair between Emperor Charles V and Barbara Blomberg, a Regensburg native. As a child of Regensburg, his father had him taken abroad at the age of 3. The Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (who, incidentally, was born in the Netherlands and was also King of Spain) recognized him as his son after his death. Whether the statue belongs there or not is not something I want to decide here. It doesn't bother me, and it's beautifully crafted. It is NOT a political or ethnic monument. Like all generals, he fought for his king. If anyone feels offended by something that happened almost 500 years ago, I don't quite understand. Perhaps it would be a good idea to catch up on some history lessons here. It's a good thing that freedom of speech exists in Germany. And this is mine.

New Parish Church, located near the famous Stone Bridge in Regensburg's medieval Old Town center, is a must-visit spot. The 13th-century Cathedral of St. Peter stands at the heart of Domplatz and offers a delightful surprise with its hidden entrance and enchanting organ music. While you can't ascend the towers, this central church is an interesting and beautiful place to explore within the charming old city of Regensburg.
This church became one of my anchor spots whenever I visited Regensburg – whether in summer or winter, I always stopped by. Located right in the heart of the city, it’s hard to miss. Every time I came here, it brought me a sense of calm and pause in the middle of travel or errands. The architecture is simple yet striking, especially with the twin towers and big clock. The square around it is often quiet, making it perfect for a short reflective break. Interesting fact: This is Neupfarrkirche, built on the site of a former Jewish synagogue that was destroyed in the 15th century. The church’s location has deep layers of Regensburg’s complex history. It’s one of those places that grows on you – not loud, not crowded, but always there when you need a moment of stillness.
Get-nabla — Google review
Neupfarrkirche is a 16th-century and active Protest Parish church located at Naupfarrplatz in the Old Town of Regensburg. It was built upon the site of the Jewish Quarter after the Jewish followers were expelled from the city in the early part of the century. This is a small single nave church with a modest Renaissance exterior and twin clock towers. The interior is subtle with Gothic features. The high altar which dates back to 1617 and surrounding paintings are worth a few minutes to enjoy. You'll find an interesting globe shaped candle holder near the front of the church as well as information in back relating to the old Jewish Quarter that predates the establishment of Neupfarrkirche and the square outside. Given the small size of the Old Town, it is convenient to stop by for a quick look around Neupfarrkirche while sightseeing around Regensburg. Give it a 5-10 minutes while you are in the area.

The Brückturm-Museum is located at the southern end of the historic stone bridge over the Danube in Regensburg. The tower also provides panoramic views of the historic center, stone bridge, and the Danube.
A museum and tower that offer scenic views of the old town and bridge. The museum gives some idea of the history of the bridge and the town of Regensburg. The tower itself is climbable, but has a one way system that is not obvious to those who do not speak German. There is an old clock mechanism in the tower that is also quite interesting to those who are interested in such things.

One of the interesting heritage buildings to see in the city centre of Regensburg is Bruekturm (Bridge Tower) which stands on the south side of the Danube and the Old Stone Bridge. We enjoyed seeing the attractive tower after a brief stroll on the bridge. It is a convenient attraction to view while in this area of Regensburg. This gate tower once served as part of the city fortifications and dates back to the 13th-century. In the early 20th-century a large archway was built to allow room for trams to pass through. Today it serves as a museum and during part of the year (March to October - open 10.45am - 5pm) as well as a UNESCO World Heritage Visitor Centre throughout the year.

The Theater Regensburg, established in 1804, serves as an important venue for operas, operettas, ballets, musicals, plays, and orchestral concerts. It also hosts open-air performances during the summer season. The theater's bar/cafe is inviting and provides a pleasant pre-show or intermission experience. While surtitles would have been beneficial during the performance of Der Freischutz, the staging, orchestra, and singing were exceptional.
Nice place to come back again and again for the shows and for the amazing design.

Great venue and atmosphere, but I had a disappointing experience at the bar where I was ripped off €5 because the bartender failed to give me back the proper change. I understand mistakes can be made, but it was handled a bit rudely and I tried to explain that I only had a €10 bill (the bartender claimed I gave her a €5) at the time for a €3.50 drink. Otherwise, great experience!

Spitalbrauerei Regensburg is a historic brewery situated in the city of Regensburg, known for its long-standing establishment since 1350. As one of Bavaria's oldest breweries, it encompasses a diverse range of beer styles, such as lagers, wheat beers, and specialty brews. Located by the river with ample outdoor seating and accessible via the Old Stone Bridge, this scenic spot offers an authentic Bavarian dining experience.
Absolutely lovely place with traditional fare and both classical and new beer styled brewed. Huge garden, cozy venue, great atmosphere. For those who want to have a taste of everything they offer taste sets.

The document Kepler, located on Keplerstrasse, is a newly renovated memorial house dedicated to the influential scientist Johannes Kepler. The museum offers a modern and well-curated experience with interesting information about his discoveries in astronomy and planetary motion. Visitors can borrow audio guides for free to enhance their visit. The museum is recommended for both tourists and locals, offering a glimpse into the life and work of Johannes Kepler.

(Translated by Google) My reason for going to Regensburg! And absolutely justified! Audio guide with headphones: the headphones could be worn comfortably over hearing aids. However, it was difficult to understand when the tour was taking place at the same time. If the museum is "quiet" it works great for me. This audio guide was definitely a really great introduction to the museum. (I don't want to give too much away here - try it out yourself!). All floors are accessible via an elevator (please wheelchair users come to the museum from the back, not the side facing the Danube). After the previous tour of the World Heritage Center, I was totally exhausted and unfocused. So I came back the next day and explored the museum as part of a guided tour: it was so exciting to have the exhibits and Kepler's life explained again - things that I hadn't been able to appreciate the day before and to be able to classify them from a different perspective. For example, the explanations of the "perpetual calendar", the reality of Kepler's life at the time, but also what influence his research still has on us today (keyword optics, that was still completely new to me!) and how many topics he explored and researched in his scientific life. For me, the most fascinating thing was the comparison of the different world views and (unfortunately the technology was on strike) the many letters that Kepler wrote - these were briefly presented as part of the tour about his life story. The issue of accessibility is very important to the museum, although it could not be implemented in all places due to the old, listed building. But as I said, you can get to all floors with an elevator. I recommend that people with visual impairments take someone with them - also because the ceiling is quite low in some places on the stairs. Unfortunately, there are no touch stations - but you can discover a lot with a guided tour and/or the audio guide. Hearing impairments were also taken into account (although the music of one of the exhibits was a bit disruptive during the tour). But there was a solution for that too. Conclusion: I was in this ("small") museum for a good 4 hours in total and still feel the need to come back and discover even more. I would like to thank the employees of this museum for their patience in answering my questions, the nice conversations and especially for "a moment of peace and relaxation" when my concentration was totally at a loss.

The Hotel Weidenhof is a great value bed and breakfast located close to Regensburg's popular tourist attractions. The rooms are comfortable, with free Wi-Fi and a private bathroom. Continental breakfast offers a good variety of fresh breads, cheeses and deli meats, fruit, cereals, etc. Service is good, and many staff members speak English.
Room was nice and clean. Building itself is old, but it was well maintained. Reception uncomplicated and friendly staff. I felt well here as a poc. Good location, 5 min walk from the main station.

The location was very good, a few minutes only to the dome and into the old town. Unfortunately the WiFi in our room was poor/ not properly working- most of the time no connection and when connected a poor quality and very slow. The staff of the hotel was friendly and professional. Breakfast was okay - they also serve Prosecco which is a nice gesture.

Very nice hotel close to rail, station and Old Town. Google maps sends you to a locked back door. Stay on Maximilianstraße just past the wonderful Bäckerei Schifferl coffee shop.
Pat B — Google review
The front desk staff was very friendly. Great place for a family to stay! We had a family room, and the main room was joined by a room with bunk beds and an additional bed. There were also toys and space for playing. The hotel was in a great location, and we enjoyed our stay here.
Rebekah H — Google review
We had a nice stay in our double room. Everything was spotless and clean, location is definitely ideal near the train station. I was a bit disappointed by the double bed being two single bed, but this seems to be a German thing. The street can be a bit noisy at night, I wish we could have been on the other side of the building or had a little fan to avoid having the window open. Other than that, this hotel is very good value for money, it's clean, and the staff is helpful and welcoming.
Stéphane F — Google review
The hotel is easy to spot, with a pale blue frontage along the pedestrian area. We drove up so we could unload and then do a U turn and drive around to find the car park before walking back to the hotel. Check in was lovely and the room was small but functional although it did lack a kettle. Most importantly it was less than 10 minutes walk to all the attractions. The downsides of the hotel were that the internet was slow, unsecured and very laggy. Also, being a city centre hotel, it was damned noisy! We didn't sleep well due to noisy gits in the street outside and were woken several times in the night so we weren't in the best of moods in the morning. I was going to do some sunrise photos but I really couldn't be bothered. We had breakfast in the hotel which was very good and excellent value. Staff were excellent in the hotel and noise may not be a problem most of the time - we were there on a Saturday night in August! Good value.
Marcus H — Google review
We enjoyed our stay bse the host was very gracious, and moved us to a bigger room when we decided to bring our child along the last minute. Continental breakfast had a good variety of fresh breads, cheeses and deli meats, fruit, cereals, etc. Service was good, and many in the front office spoke good English. The street that the hotel is on had various ethnic restaurants and shops. Also, only 10 min walk to the river.
BC B — Google review
Good location, nice Staff. The Breakfast is nothing special, the Coffee isn't very good and the Rooms are lived down and in dire need of renovation. Some Rooms have extremly small beds (90 cm) . The Rooms facing the Street are loud all night long. So...it's not the best but tolerable.

Piratenhöhle - Bar Regensburg is a unique pub located in a medieval cellar, featuring funky pirate-themed decor and a steady rotation of rock and heavy metal music. The rustic ambiance with rough walls adorned with pirate-related trinkets creates the feeling of being in an underground smugglers' cavern. The venue itself is a 900-year-old coal cellar, providing an intimate setting for around 35 people.

The Roman Wall Regensburger Legionslagermauer stands as a remarkable testament to the ancient Castra Regina, the fortress that gave Regensburg its name. This impressive structure not only includes the iconic Porta Praetoria but also features segments visible in unexpected places like parking garages and near the train station. These remnants of Roman architecture offer a unique glimpse into history, blending both Roman and medieval influences.

A Must-Visit! This place offers a great overview of Regensburg’s rich history — from the inauguration of the iconic Stone Bridge and the city’s most prominent dynasties to the first-ever European Union assembly, which took place here centuries ago. I visited on a Sunday; it was open and free of charge. The reception staff was incredibly kind and even offered me a free guided tour! Although I came alone, the guide was very enthusiastic, and we started the tour just the two of us. As we went along, more visitors joined in, and we ended up being a group of around ten. The tour was conducted in High German. The guide was very helpful, and despite being alone at first, she explained everything with passion. I have above-average German skills, so I could follow over 80% of the tour. Interestingly, she also mentioned that similar tours are available in “easy German” — which means High German spoken slowly, using simpler, more familiar vocabulary.

Nestled within the vibrant city of Regensburg, the Maria Läng Chapel is a charming baroque hall that dates back to 1675. This intimate space, located on the ground floor of a former canon's courtyard, offers visitors a serene escape from urban life. Adorned with a striking figure of the Virgin Mary, it invites reflection and prayer in an atmosphere that feels both humble and sacred.
As non Christians, we enjoyed the atmosphere of this church. The architecture is Gothic, and it makes you feel humbled. For us it was a bit of mixed feelings such as mystery, spiritual, excitement, as said above humble, and even a bit scary! Overall it was a good experience. We enjoyed it. :)

(Translated by Google) The Maria Läng Chapel in Regensburg, a fascinating place steeped in history, folklore, and a Baroque atmosphere. POSITIVE: + Historical significance: Built in 1675 as the private chapel of a canon's court, consecrated in 1678 in the consecration of Christ at Emmaus. Commissioned by Regensburg canon and later auxiliary bishop Albert Ernst von Wartenberg, who discovered Roman and medieval architectural remains during construction. Partially subterranean chapel rooms bear references to early Christian symbolism and are a true piece of Regensburg's legendary culture. + Design: Integration into new building: The chapel stood free until 1881; afterward, it was integrated into the new residential and commercial building at Pfauengasse 2. A Baroque hall building with groin vaults, a Marian altar, and votive offerings, a place of silence and devotion. + Authentic details: Numerous handwritten thank-you notes, large donated candles, and votive cards adorn the walls. NEGATIVE: - Difficult to find: The chapel is inconspicuous and easy to miss, with many passersby carelessly walking by. - No prominent signage or tourist information. - Accessibility: Not available, as it is only accessible via stairs and the space is very small. CONCLUSION: Authentic details such as numerous handwritten thank-you notes, large donated candles, and votive cards adorn the walls. An expression of lived religiosity and personal hope.
