Specialty Museums
The Toy Train Depot in Alamogordo is a charming museum and hobby shop housed in an 1898 depot, paying homage to the region's railroad history. Visitors can explore model train tracks, a toy store, and mini-train rides while learning about the significant role of railroads in shaping New Mexico's past. Whether you're a train enthusiast or simply curious about local history, the Toy Train Depot offers an engaging experience for all ages.
Loved the little train ride through the park. It was longer than expected. The museum was very thorough in information and loved the details packed into this museum. The display room had so many hidden fun and gems. The staff were mainly volunteers and they loved trains so it was fun to have conversations with them. The gentleman in the display room was so friendly and passionate about the display! They had a cool train phone and the smallest train parts I’ve ever seen that are functional.
Amanda D — Google review
Great place to visit, Phillip was great! as well as the other gentlemen who took the time to answer all the questions I had on the tour. The train ride was better than anticipated. It was about 20 minutes long that goes around the park. Will definitely stop by again 🚂
Simon P — Google review
Great stop for our family outing. I highly recommend for kids, my son loved it as he's currently into trains. Phil was a great tour guide.
Mark T — Google review
Had a great time here with the family. Kid was fascinated with the trainsets. Knowledgeable, patient and kind staff make sure you have a good time and a great visit. We'll definitely return again.
Cameron O — Google review
Visited here in 2022 with my Grandpa. Absolutely loved this place. Super friendly and knowledgeable volunteers, if you have any interest in trains you could spend hours here talking to them and never get bored. Absolutely recommend this place! would 100% return if I wasn’t living in Pennsylvania. Cheers 🍻
Space C — Google review
We had so much fun with Kate, the Manager, and the Toy Train Depot volunteers. They are so knowledgeable about everything in this Depot full of scale model trains displays AND the real trains riding the rails out in the USA. This is a must see! Young and Old will marvel at the incredible train setups and detail taken in villages, depots, people and farm settings in the various rooms. You can buy train cars and other memorabilia. I didn't think to take a photo; too excited and having fun.
Marie K — Google review
Very cool train! When we rode the people in the park were waving and the cars on white sands were as well, our little one was smiling and enjoying the whole ride. He blew the whistle several times and the train makes a nice pace. Really enjoyed our experience 😊

The Museum of Space History, located in New Mexico, is a fascinating showcase of the state's rich history in rocket launches and satellite technology. Visitors can explore notable artifacts such as the coveralls worn by the only scientist to walk on the moon and the Daisy Track used for testing rapid acceleration effects. The museum also offers a Basin Overlook with stunning views of where many experiments took place.
The New Mexico Museum of Space History in Alamogordo is a fun place to spend a few hours. This is a great place to take younger children because it is not a large museum. The exhibits are a nice mix of seeing, reading, and doing - such as learning about the men who set land speed records and a simulation landing of the space shuttle. There is also a section on science fiction and pop culture that looks at how sci-fi had a part in influencing technology. Star Trek was the star of this part of the exhibit and a joy for fans. And of course, information on the Trinity test. If you ever go through this area of New Mexico, stop and see this museum!
Elisabet M — Google review
It's a well put together museum. Plenty of space history as the name implies. A self-walked tour starts with an elevator ride to the 5th floor. An easy walk through the ramps progresses down through the floors with each one covering different parts of space history. Lots of enjoyable hands on things to explore. Very family friendly. Please be careful if traveling with pets as they aren't allowed in.
Gaby G — Google review
Really neat. Nice design for a small building. You start at the top floor and walk down 5 flights on a gradually sloping corridor. No stairs. Easy for elderly, handicapped, strollers, and scooters. Fun and interactive!
Anne E — Google review
This is a super cool stop, especially if you’re into space or military history. You get to see a variety of impressive rockets and rocket parts that were actually used, including a German V2 which I found particularly fascinating to see up close. It’s such a unique and educational experience, with plenty to explore and learn. I highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area it’s well worth the visit!
Owen C — Google review
I was outside today, walking around the path a bit. I did not go into the museum. Someone wrote with lava rock pieces on the ground the word Jesus. I thought that was really cool.
Katie C — Google review
I went with my daughter, son-in-law and my 15 year old and 12 year old grandchildren. We had so much fun trying out the interactive exhibits and seeing through exhibits the evolution of space exploration. There were space suits to try on and even the bathrooms were fun with an explanation of the planet uranus on the inside of the bathroom stall door. The gift shop volunteers were courteous and kind. Well worth the small admission fee.
Iris G — Google review
It's a wonderful, amazing experience. I'm a local and I keep going over and over. Locals, get your pass at the reference desk at the library with your library card!
Colette D — Google review
Enjoyed the museum and felt like there was more focus on the rockets and missiles that can be missed. Enjoyed the simulators, the outdoor area with the Daisy Track, and the grave stone of H.A.M. Cute things in the gift shop and a great play area for kids (and maybe adults too). There was a neat section about movies and sci-fi that was interesting.

Zoo
Zoos & Aquariums
Alameda Park Zoo, located in Alamogordo, New Mexico, is one of the oldest zoos in the Southwestern United States. It offers an aesthetically charming view of nature and provides high standards of environmental and biological research education on non-human and human relationships. The zoo houses a variety of animals including the Mexican gray wolf, raptors, otters, lemurs, mountain lions, kangaroos, bears and more.
I love this little zoo! For being so small, they have a great variety of animals, including some you can find in the wild nearby which I found amusing. The animals seem very well take care of and several were very interesting in getting close to the front of their enclosure. Ihad a great time walking around
Rachel T — Google review
Husband and I love to go to the zoo anywhere we travel. This is a quaint little zoo, but the animals were quite active when we visited. The bears, otters, and even the camel were awake and active. The camel even came over near the fence by us. The aviary is small, but I enjoyed listening to the bird calls and songs.
Rosario R — Google review
Great place for meet ups! The animals here seem so much happier than other zoos I’ve visited. Up close encounters and fun environment. It’s nice in the center they have a playground and picnic bench’s for lunch. A very fun time for the kids and adults. The price is also so reasonable that I bought a year pass. ❤️🐻🙈🦘Follow @alamorgordo mommy meet up on fb for zoo play dates!
Danielle G — Google review
What a neat, well maintained zoo. For $0.25 you can feed a variety of birds, ducks, ect. Next time I’ll bring cash for the gift shop and icecream. Very well maintained and walkable zoo.
Marcy P — Google review
This little zoo was lots of fun for us! Most of the animals were out enjoying the beautiful sunshine! Being from Washington state, I enjoyed seeing a lot of animals that are local to me. The gift shop had a lot of fun little gifts for children that were fairly priced. My only criticism would be that all the railings were extremely dirty due to so many birds. I do understand that it's quite a lot of cleaning but it would be nice to enjoy the animals without having to avoid the rails. It's hard to keep kiddos from touching them.
Jen H — Google review
Such a great zoo. It’s a smaller size, but it doesn’t feel like it! The paths are in great shape, there are lots of animals, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming. There is free parking and it’s well worth the $5 admission for adults. I even saw two animals I hadn’t seen at other zoos and I go to zoos all over the US and Canada! I would say the whole zoo is very accessible as well.
Miranda — Google review
Lovely gem in the heart of Alamogordo. The animals seem to be well taken care of. Observed staff hand feeding some of the monkeys and the lady in the office is very knowledgeable about the goose she keeps with her. Enjoyable park to see animals recover from injuries and improvements seem to be underway. Most enjoyable thing to explore while staying in Alamogordo for a month.
Martina S — Google review
Had a wonderful time there with my wife and 12 year old son. Not the largest zoo, but they had a good variety of animals to view. I really loved the walk through aviary. You don't get to see one of those very often. We spent a couple of hours and for the price, it was worth it. They also have a nice jungle gym to help keep the kids occupied. Highly recommend.

The museum's Basin Overlook provides a stunning view of the facilities where these groundbreaking experiments occurred.
Visiting from out of state. Martha was the employee working. She was wonderful, very welcoming and a real promoter of the area, the history and local culture. As a career Army veteran, I was honored to see how the museum honored Veterans and the contributions the military has provided to the region. Equally, I am so PLEASED to see how the museum honored all of the cultures in the area, Latinx and African American history This is our history as Americans and this site does an outstanding job at recognizing and honoring those cultures that make us AMERICANS! Really enjoyed it. Thank you!!

If you love history, this is a must see! I've grown to love museums and all they have to offer in terms of history and artifacts! So much in this building. The ladies working there walked with us and answered so many questions! I learned so mush here and I recommend this place highly!

Very good collection. Covers geology, history, culture, and local military history. Very informative. LOTS OF FREE PMPHLETS AND EXCELLENT GIFT SHOP.
Brenda L — Google review
The guides were patient and informative! We have three tiny history buffs, and the twins can certainly talk and ask questions, but she never got overwhelmed and answered ALL of the questions 😂 thank you so much, we are still talking about the museum about lunch!!
Sonja F — Google review
It's a small but packed museum with some fossils, rocks, pottery, military memorabilia, old technology and all sorts of stuff. Fun to do if you feel like doing something easy. Also the ladies will give you a tour if you'd like one.
Samuel C — Google review
Wasn't sure there would be much to see but this museum was amazing. As they say, can't judge a book by its cover. Be sure to take the time to stop in.
Donna L — Google review
Well considering this is the early days of Covid green zone, which allows some local travel around the state, it was refreshing that one of the places that was open was this dandy little museum. The building itself is got very unique history, and they have a really nice collection of historical artifacts for the area. Really very well done for a small town museum. The docent at the front door was very polite and knowledgeable but then she also kind of get out of your way and let you explore the place. I recommend this to anybody who's traveling in one to learn more about the area.
Joseph C — Google review
Excellent little museum. A great place to learn just about everything you want to know about the area from the beginning of time to the present. Plenty of reference material if you're a student looking to write a report or if you're just a history buff like myself. Friendly staff answered my questions and have me a little extra insight into some of the exhibits.

Saw Lion King Jr performed by children's music theater.....they did so very, very awesome! I was super impressed by all of them! And the live orchestra...fantastic!
Cali — Google review
Attending events here is like taking a walk back in time. There is a huge stage draped by a luxurious stage curtain. Access to theater area is by ramps rather than staircases. A few steps to access the balcony area. Family-friendly environment- soft drinks, popcorn, etc sold at concession stand. Women's restroom always very clean & I would assume the men's room to be the same. Wonderful sound system. Have had seats all over the theater & view has been great in each section. Staff members are a pleasure, - courteous, kind, friendly & efficient. Look forward to many more shows here.

We watched Big Fish the Musical and it was great! The Flickinger reminds me of the old theater I used to go to in Raymondville Texas back in the 60's, very nostalgic.

Nestled in Alamogordo, New Mexico, the American Armed Forces Museum is a heartfelt tribute to the brave men and women of the U.S. military. Established in 1997 as a non-profit organization, this museum aims to collect and preserve an impressive array of military artifacts that honor all branches of service and commemorate every conflict involving American forces. Visitors can explore fascinating exhibits featuring uniforms, flags, field supplies, soldier bunks, and various equipment that tell stories from different eras of service.
Very nice display of our history of Military valor
Timothy N — Google review
This museum is well worth the trip. It reflects decades of dedication by a small group of volunteers who sought to honor local military heroes. Be sure to visit its beautiful garden, too.
Heidi M — Google review
Visited this museum in June 2021. We were on our way to Artesia New Mexico. This is a relatively small museum and run by an old volunteer lady who was really nice and warm. There is displays of uniforms and other things used by the people who served the USA. Nice and interesting place. Should visit if in the nearby area.
Maithilee K — Google review
Fantastic representation of our Armed Forces and those who have served. Many locals are highlighted for their service to our country and for their career accomplishments.
Erich W — Google review
My husband and I kept seeing signs for this place while in Alamagordo. I read it was run by a nice volunteer lady and we wanted to support the museum and her. We didn't make it because it's closed Monday, but we plan to be back and will visit. Thank you to the museum for preserving our history.
Melissa B — Google review
A fine display of uniforms, but very little else. The uniforms are nicely labeled. Everything is under glass, so getting a photo without reflections is impossible. What little hardware that is on display is unlabeled. Very friendly staff.
Stan W — Google review
This was a cool place to visit! Definitely must visit.
Bryce D — Google review
The way in which items are displayed are not in context with the person who wore the uniform & all the items donated. Items are scattered among other people's items & don't have the flow of what people donate. The man who runs it doesn't have the education on how to properly display theses items. My great uncle was a survivor of the Bataan Death March & the owner of this place can't even tell me which flag was his at his funeral. He didn't mark anything. He knows some of it in his mind. I had family permission to move his items to the museum at White Sands Army Museum that is accredited to display & care for the items properly, but the owner of this place wouldn't release them. I think it was because he couldn't find them all. The Army Museum at White Sand will preserve them for eternity. I think the owner of this little small place is just scared to lose some items. I eventually will hire a lawyer to handle the situation. I have to save the money to do so. Sad that he has done what he has to those who donated items.

Desert Foothills Park in Alamogordo, New Mexico is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts and hikers. The park offers paved trails that wind through the unique desert landscape, providing panoramic views of the desert and mountains. Visitors can encounter native wildlife and admire stunning desert plants while hiking along the moderate ascent and descent trail. The park is suitable for walkers, runners, cyclists, kids, and leashed dogs due to its paved or smoothed out pathways.
Peaceful place to walk with great views, access to Goat Springs Trailhead. Always safe and never crowded.
Adrianell S — Google review
Nice walking path for the neighborhood. Sometimes you will feel like you are literally in someone backyard due to how close some of the paths are. You are able to also walk your pets but ensure they are leashed for everyone’s safety. For owners bringing their pets, ensure you bring a bag/scooper. It really annoys me to see feces on the pathway when there’s multiple trash cans also along the path.
Franki K — Google review
Great walking path for all levels of fitness or to just take a casual stroll. The mountain vista in the background is the best part of it. It's an short 1.3 miles, and would even be accessible for those with disabilities. For those with little stamina, or the time to ruminate, there are benches set around.
Colette D — Google review
The view is amazing! 😍 You can see all the way to White Sands from there. Catching a sunrise or sunset there is a great experience. There's also a covered pavilion with picnic tables, so you can take your lunch or dinner up there and enjoy it in nature. There's also a walking trail. Be prepared to WALK if you try it out, because half of it is not for the weak or weary. 😁

Public golf course
If you're looking for a fantastic golfing experience, Desert Lakes Golf Course in Alamogordo, NM is a must-visit. This 18-hole gem offers beautifully maintained fairways that feature both elevation changes and water hazards, adding an exciting challenge to your game. Nestled at the base of the stunning Sacramento Mountain range, the course presents a unique blend of tree-lined holes on the front nine and open desert landscapes on the back nine.
Stayed at Desert Lakes Golf Course for two nights through Harvest Hosts and really enjoyed the experience. The designated Harvest Host parking is at the far end of the main lot. It's a level asphalt surface with plenty of lighting at night, which made setup easy. The only downside is the noise from the nearby 4-way intersection. A lot of vehicles stop and then aggressively take off, and that happens throughout the day and night. During my stay, I ate at the restaurant inside the clubhouse both days. The food was solid and it was convenient being just steps away. On my day off, I packed up my trailer and played 9 holes on the course. The greens were in good shape, although the rest of the course was a little dry, which is pretty typical for the region. The price for 9 holes, a cart, and club rental was under $50, which felt more than fair. The staff was friendly and helpful, making me feel welcomed as both a golfer and a Harvest Host guest. This location is also only about 30 minutes from White Sands National Park, which makes it a great stop if you're exploring the area. If you have extra time, I highly recommend visiting Cloudcroft. It's a small old western-style town high in the mountains, kind of like a smaller Virginia City, NV. But don’t take your rig up there. The grade is steep and takes you into snow elevations, so it’s best to go up in your tow vehicle or toad. Great stop overall. Good food, golf, and close to one of the most beautiful places in the Southwest. Side note: I’ve submitted nearly 600 reviews, and my photos and videos have over 18 million views on Google Maps. If this helped, give me a follow. It’s always appreciated!
Jesse M — Google review
Visitor, played 3x during stay. The course conditions are currently rather rough after some water issues, but much to love about course. The layout is fun and interesting, staff very friendly, really great bar & grill...restaurant! And the views along course! Really enjoyed rounds.
Bob N — Google review
Friendly atmosphere in the pro shop and bar. Prices were decent. The course has good grass on the tee boxes and greens, but the fairways are mostly dirt on most holes except on the approach to the greens. Most par 3s were in good shape. Interesting water obstacles. Lots of houses on the right side of the course on the front 9 after hole #4, so watch out if you slice. The course marshal was nice and explained the irrigation problems they had watering the course. We'll definitely go back in 2026 to see if the grass conditions are better. We had a good time even though the grass conditions were not optimal.
JOHN A — Google review
We didn't golf, but the course looked nice. Stayed with the Harvest Host site with our RV on the property. It was a great spot. Beautiful sunsets and sunrise. Grill was great to eat at too.
Lauren M — Google review
Fairways a bit narrow on a few holes. Couple of water holes that can dent your card as well. Good play!
Kenneth M — Google review
The guy that we checked in with was extremely racist towards our party. Hovering over us as well as making sure we didn’t bring alcohol when multiple parties of a different race were allowed to bring full cases of beer in. He was extremely condescending and rude. The golf course is also very small and poorly maintained, the lowest of the low in regards to standards for a golf “resort”.
Christien P — Google review
We played the front nine and this course was in the worst shape of any course I can remember. Dirt/mud instead of grass on many holes. Carts were falling apart. Yikes
Lori B — Google review
Desert Lakes Golf Course had a very inviting and warm atmosphere! The people and staff were incredibly cordial and kind! The restaurant was very clean and tidy, and the food was very delicious!

The Shroud Exhibit and Museum is more than just a place to learn about the Shroud of Turin—it’s an experience that invites you to explore the intersection of history, science, and faith. When i visited, i found it to be a deeply enriching journey, one that left me with a renewed sense of wonder and curiosity. Whether you’re a believer, a skeptic, or simply intrigued by the mysteries of the past, this museum offers something extraordinary.

The Shroud Exhibit was amazing! We met Pete Schumacher who was one of the engineers who tested the fabric with an image analyzer. This machine measured the intensity of the image on the cloth. Based on its readings, it shows there was a huge scale energy burst from the body to create this image. And with that info, the burst information of each section can be translated into a 3D image of the body on the shroud (similar to what we see on body scan sections when put them together). The shroud image is unique when comparing image intensity readings from black and white chess pieces: the shroud produced 3D images while the chess piece readings did not. This showed that the image on the shroud came from something emitting energy, not just reflecting colors off an object. From what I understood, there had to be a huge scale energy burst from the body to create this image. (Similar to a huge flash from a photocopier, but from the entire body all at once.) We also learned about how the cloth was placed on the body of Jesus, and from its placement and the intensity readings, a resin replica of the body was created. We also learned about the cloth's history over the ages: the fire and flood that caused the triangular holes on it; and how the carbon 14 sample was corrupted before testing. It was such a thrill to watch the machine read the replica shroud and produce a 3D display on the monitor...... I can't see how anyone can deny this is the real deal. No one back then (or now) can create such an elaborate artifact with this characteristic. I highly recommend visiting this fascinating exhibit. If not to be inspired, or awed by the science, but to at least see the world's first selfie.

Who would have thought that there would be a shroud museum in a mall, staffed by one of the men who works on the project. Do you have any shroud questions? This man is a fountain of knowledge and can be quite funny.

Very nice display of the information and artifacts. Very interesting. Lots of items to view and gave a very good feeling of the actual Shroud. Would recommend for anyone looking to see something historical and meaningful to Christian persons or anyone seeking spiritual experience.

A little cheesy, but fun. Volunteer was knowledgeable and walked us through a short video, gave a short presentation and answered questions. This is not the original shroud, but a printed replica in front of a light. Still cheap, fun experience when in the area.

Wow! This exhibit exceeded my expectations. We were greeted by knowledgeable volunteers who were not only welcoming but also exceptionally well-versed in the history and significance of the Shroud. It is a free exhibit, currently located inside the White Sands Mall of Alamogordo. The meticulous display offers a comprehensive journey through the Shroud’s storied past. The detailed explanations and interactive exhibits provided deep insights into the artifact's historical, religious, and scientific aspects. The volunteers were always on hand to answer questions, their passion and expertise shining through in every conversation. The 10-minute multimedia presentation, was both engaging and informative, bringing the story of the Shroud to life. The exhibit also included high-quality reproductions and informative panels that made the complex history accessible to visitors of all backgrounds. Put the Shroud of Turin display on your list of things to see in Alamogordo. The dedication and knowledge of the volunteers, along with the excellent presentation, make it wonderful and educational experience. Highly recommended!

Coffee shop
Plateau Espresso is a popular coffee shop located in Alamogordo, offering a laid-back atmosphere for visitors to enjoy a cup of Joe while socializing or listening to live music. The menu features various coffee-based drinks, including espresso beverages and cold brews. Additionally, the cafe serves exclusive drinks like Winter Wonderland and Nuevo Mexico Paradise. Guests can also indulge in a selection of cookies, bagels, muffins, and paninis to accompany their beverages.
My husband and I visited for the first time this morning and had a great experience! The breakfast burrito pleasantly surprised us at how delicious it was. My husband said it was a better breakfast burrito than some burrito places. Great flavors, fresh ingredients and a high quality tortilla. The chai latte was great and their customer service was fantastic at tweaking my husband’s latte after the fact. We will definitely come again when we are next in town.

This basic coffee shop offers various coffee and tea selections cold or hot, it also has a small sandwich menu. I opted for the pumpkin coffee and it was ok, the brew was quite strong so I couldn’t really taste the pumpkin, my daughter’s London Fog tea was refreshing and good. We also ordered a Ham and Swiss Croissant and a Reuben Panini, they come with some pickle slices and chips on the side. My daughter enjoyed her Reuben but I found my Ham and Swiss Croissant lacking flavor. It was very thin and lacking both ham and cheese. I wouldn’t order the sandwiches again, not worth the price. The girl that took our order seemed tired or like she just wanted her shift to end, she wasn’t rude just inattentive. This coffee shop is located on a great spot and the inside is very spacious and has lots of small tables and chairs but it’s not very cozy. They do have a sofa seating area on one of the corners. This place has lots of potential but right now it just doesn’t have much ambiance, the atmosphere feels very clinical to me and my daughter agreed. I’m sure there’s people that don’t really care about that, they just want some coffee and well, if that’s the case, this is a place that can fulfill that need.

First off, the name. The name describes the environment. WOW! What a view. Second...the decor. Not pompous. Not over-bearing, just a light, natural, relaxed feeling. Third...oh, yes, the COFFEE! Wow, is this good stuff. Been going here since 2006 on my trips back to visit family. My daughters, young'ins at the time, STILL talk about this place today. This "Coffee Shop" will hold a warm spot in your heart, you'll see! Enjoy the view. Enjoy the Coffee. Enjoy your family and friends over both. You will be glad you did!

5/5 - This is one of the best coffee shops in Alamogordo, unique location, friendly staff, well curated menu list. We stopped by to have some coffee and sandwich, and their panini tasted great. The ambiance is excellent. They have an old telephone booth and great vintage items in the cafe. Spacious, they have inside and outdoor seating.
Akhila S — Google review
Fantastic spot for a quick and delicious coffee! Their espresso drinks are top-notch, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. A perfect start to any morning.
Tanner T — Google review
Very basic coffee shop. If you're on a road trip and thinking of pulling over for some yummy coffee keep driving. This place is not close to the freeway and not worth the extra drive. Coffee was not flavorful. Breakfast Panini was 2 kraft singles some deli ham and a tiny bit of dry scrambled egg, served with potato chips (not sure how chips go with this). Panini was 8.75, for me that was expensive for the quality of what I received.
Val S — Google review
The over place is nice great location the view is nice from the patio but for a Sunday they seemed a bit under staffed. The coffee was good but to wait a while to get it along with the food. I was expecting something different and it left me wanting.

The espresso was delicious and customer service great, but it was the view that makes this 5 stars. What a gorgeous one this place has! Everything was clean inside, the decor is cute, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Try the banana nut muffin 🍌

Great place to spend time with family or even have a date night. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a blast playing laser tag. The kids really enjoyed bowling. The food was also very tasty. There were issues with the tickets we won not going on our card and showing a balance of zero, but there are bound to be a few bumps when opening.

Pretty decent fun for Alamogordo (which isn't saying much). They don't have anywhere to claim tickets won by playing the arcade machines yet but they said they're going to get one in eventually. You have to get a card and reload "credits" onto it to obfuscate the price of each machine. Attached photos of bowling prices, food/restaurant prices (and a hot hog sandwich), and the line for bowling when they opened at 11am on Saturday.

DO NOT GO HERE. We had a very large party going there tonight. After getting three drinks at the bar, I questioned the amount and when she brought me the tab, it was 50 bucks for three drinks. After I got that itemized bill they overcharge me by 18 bucks.l After that, she came back and said that was right I again said no you charged me for drinks that we didn’t get. She said you were right it is $42. I asked for the new itemized receipt and it was actually $32. I gave her 20% tip. After that, I went to other people that were there with us and all that were overcharged 40 bucks. It took almost 30 minutes to figure it out and for them to refund the amount of money to them. When I pull the manager aside, let them know what happened, he said they would called the people the next day to let them know they were overcharged. No bar ever notices the next day for drinks that they didn’t get. He was dismissive l and didn’t act like it was a big deal. No apology. It’s either that bartender or the establishment that has a practice of charging people for drinks they never received. I communicated to the 40 people we had there to check their tabs. I’m sure this wasn’t a one or two off. Bottom line was he didn’t care. Two times that were over charge by $58 it’s ridiculous. Beware. Scam for sure. We will never come back. Ever.

We waited for our food for over an hour even though we were the only ones here. The server threatened to have her security guard “beat us up in the parking lot” twice for no reason at all. I wanted this place to do well for Alamogordo, but this is completely unacceptable, we won’t be coming back. Please hire a better service staff. There also was no alcohol served until 3 pm and it was a Friday.
Barron R — Google review
They really need to update their menu. I told the waitress I wanted a SLICE of pizza. Which the menu say you can purchase that way. As we are sitting there waiting she brings out a tray to set a whole pizza on. I then told the waitress I just wanted a slice of pizza. She said oh we dont sell it that way..even though the menu clearly says it does. I thought maybe she misunderstood me and went to the lady behind the bar, she then said oh we are not updated on our menu. We don't sell it by the slice. I was thinking why didn't the waitress tell me that instead of bringing me a whole freaking pizza! So be aware. Kinda sketchy.

Restaurant: Service was exemplary! Had dinner. Ordered the rib eye steak. Was thin, but cooked to order at medium rare, and a slice of pizza. Pizza was a let down. Thick unflavorful sauce and the crust was a rock. Onion rings were delicious! My husband had the chili dog and it was good, however it was served on paper in basket. The paper disintegrated so we will ask for a regular plate next time. Refills of soda came fast and that was a pleasant perk. We then ordered the funnel cake "fries" for dessert. A bit thin so there was a heavy oil flavor, but I bet the kids will love them. Over all it was a very pleasant experience. The bowling alleys were clean and very comfortable, the games had quite a few of "out of service" signs but the place is clean!

Took my family to the space hall for the first time today. Not a good experience. My son wanted to see the dinosaur film, and when we got there there was no issue. We didn’t have mask which wasn’t a problem and we had no problem wearing one. We waited for about 20 minutes inside then walked down to the iMax to see the film. My wife stayed behind to wait for a family member while my kids and I had left. Annie the lady behind the desk was being rude with my wife. My wife wanted to do the showing with us, but the lady insisted she do a later showing. My wife told her she wanted to watch it with her family and Annie told her “okay whatever”. Then called security because she didn’t have a mask, but never told us to put one on while I was there.

Rizo's Restaurant is a modest yet vibrant Mexican eatery located in Alamogordo, offering a wide array of classic Mexican dishes such as tacos, fajitas, and enchiladas. The restaurant has garnered praise for its authentic and flavorful offerings, including albondigas, caldo de res, and tacos al pastor. Visitors have commended the welcoming atmosphere and accommodating staff, noting the availability of gluten-free options on the menu.
We loved the food and the atmosphere. A quaint authentic restaurant with character. Fresh hot chiccarones were the best. Lots of good flavor in their burritos, tacos and menudo.

Our group of six tried a variety of dishes. The carne street tacos were flavorful and satisfying. The enchiladas had a pleasant taste (we preferred the red sauce). The veggie burrito stood out for its fresh-tasting vegetables. As for dessert, the churros arrived hot and fresh, but they were fairly average and not something I’d order again. Service was very friendly and quick. Overall good pick!

Great server awareness, food presentation is just as amazing as the food quality and portion size. Plus the tres leche cake is amazing!! Restaurant is clean and staff was very friendly. Never had an empty drink and our server had suggested 3 dishes, upon our request, and we certainly found out why they are the locals favorites 🤤

I had the flauta combo ( 4 flautas with beans and rice). Meat was super dry and overcooked. Added enough guac and sour cream to make it palatable. My son had the 5 street tacos with Carne asada. These were really good!! Meat had good flavor and had just the right amount of onion and cilantro. Lastly, we had the tamale/ relleno combo. Tamale was moist, and red sauce was good but nothing special. Relleno was good too. Overall, was an OK experience. Total bill was close to $60 ( had to pay for chips and salsa...) with only water for drinks, so a bit spendy for the flavor.

My absolute favorite place to go in Alamogordo! The service is always the best; polite, helpful, professional. Their food is made with quality ingredients! On a very strict diet to eat pretty healthy and I can definitely eat here. When they cook their veggies, they even use olive oil, which is a plus. They always offer a sample of the wine for the day and so far I have liked all of them. Considering how good the service in the food is, I think the price is spot on. The restrooms are always clean as well! I really have nothing to complain about this place at all!

Lovely winery in Alamogordo, a few steps from our hotel. The ambiance is great. We did not have a reservation so we just waited a few minutes and we were then looked after in the best way. I can only eat gluten, lactose, oats, mushrooms, shrimp, citrus free (yeah, a lost cause) and Leslie went above and beyond to ensure that I could have what I wished (French onion soup and country pot roast). My husband was also very pleased. A big thank you to the chefs as well for making my experience so nice.

First time eating here and most of the food was absolutely delicious! So the dumplings felt store bought and were a little burned, but the Entrees we're so yummy it was amazing! They were very generous in ingredients and flavor. 🍜 I don't live in Alamo, but I want to go back just for the food here. The atmosphere could use a bit of improvement, but the service was great and everyone was very friendly. Very much recommend. 🤗

Not your typical amazing Bay Area Thai food but still pretty good. A quick note for vegetarians and vegans - all their curries have fish sauce in them which they thankfully let us know but only after asking the server. We ended up ordering Pad Kee Mao and Cashew Tofu minus the eggs to keep it vegan.
Shyam S — Google review
Food/Taste/Flavor: 2/5 - Dinner for Two with Green Curry with pork at mild and Pineapple Fried Rice with pork at mild. The green curry was mostly bamboo shoots and green curry paste. You don’t really get the aroma for the coconut or basil and there was barely any bell peppers. It was very one dimensional flavor that was mostly just spicy. It’s a small portion of curry and TINY portion of rice so we did have to get additional food after. The fried rice was disappointing as well since it was very salty and the rice was a bit mushy. The pineapple and slices of cucumbers were very necessary to offset the saltiness but it was still overwhelming. Flavor profile was one dimensional again of just salty. The two jar (maraschino) cherry was a bit confusing and didn’t fit the dish. The Appetizer Sampler: the vegetarian spring roll was decent with a nice fry on the outside and packed with veggies on the inside. Not much flavor by itself, but there are multiple sauces you can try with and the texture was good. The chicken wings were very salty on the outside and dry on the inside. The fried wontons with pork filling…. Well, the sampler doesn’t specifically say so it could be just fried empty wontons since that’s what we think we got. One of the pieces had a tiny piece of protein but the others were empty. It was also fried to death Ambience: n/a - ordered food to go. The front door has an obnoxious buzz that goes off ever time it opens. While the decorations are themed, the restaurant does feel messy as there are things everywhere. The restaurant does seem older as there are water stains on the ceiling tile and very harsh white light. A TV was in the corner with a sports game on but no music Service: 5/5 - she was super nice and friendly and gave us multiple recommendations on what to get. She was attentive while she dealt with multiple customers and a pick up order at the same time Value for price: 1/5 - First, the menu on their website is out of date so add $2-4 for every dish. Bad and expensive food makes this a no go for us

Kathy F — Google review
Food is good but... The last two times we have ordered to go they have given us two different size containers for the curry without any sort of explanation. Why is one curry half the size of the other, yet costs the same? Other people I have talked to seemingly haven't had this issue yet so they are definitely providing incredibly inconsistent portions. If it's going to be a gamble if we get what we paid for or not we will probably just stop going here.

The food was so so. Definitely fresh, brought hot to the table. I was traveling through Alamagordo on my way home to Oklahoma. The server said to have a seat anywhere. She brought me a menu & asked my drink order & promptly forgot about me. A group of 2 men & 2 young boys come in & sit down, they are immediately served, they get their drinks & their order is taken, before she realizes she forgot me, even though I was sitting feet away from this group of guys. I was 5 seconds from walking out the door. Finally, I received my tea & my order was taken after the group received their food. This is not a very large space, and seriously, there is no excuse for it

I'm not sure how rustic I think the place was, being in the truck stop and all. They serve breakfast all day. We were there during slow hours, I could hear the cook dicing our veggies. The Denver omelet was nicely filled with red, green peppers, onions, ham and cheese. Hash browns could have been a little browner, sausage gravy was country gravy with diced sausage layed on top. The biscuit was fried which is uncommon but really tasty. My milk came out cold and with the food, just as ordered. If we're back in the area we'll visit again.

Good food, slow service. They do serve breakfast all day - which was our only requirement. It's in a gas station, but you'd hardly know it from the inside. It's a pretty nice space with a modest amount of seating. The food was all fresh and tasty. No complaints there. We were kind of in a hurry to get back to El Paso and the slow service had us worried about timing - but we made it.

The Aviator 10 is a movie theater owned by the Allen Theatres chain. It is located in Alamogordo, New Mexico and shows first-run movies with digital video and sound. The theater has stadium seating and offers bargains and matinees.
This place is great. Nice and clean from the parking lot to the individual theaters. Staff also polite. Prices are par for the course, but I’m expressed that the icee machines were operational. Seems to be uncommon nowadays. More people should come out to the theater to ensure it is t shutdown like Rocket City. Great for dates and family outings. Military discounts only in Thursdays.

My family and I had a great experience at the aviator 10 theater! The theater was clean and comfortable. All the staff were kind and helpful. The snacks were generous and delicious. Definitely plan to come back!

It was $5 on Tuesday when we went. We were in a pretty packed theater to watch the new Jurassic Park movie. The seats recline, and although we had to sit in the 2nd row, it wasn't too bad. The staff was friendly. The bathrooms were clean. And the popcorn was good.
Donna M — Google review
Tiny little theater compared to what I'm used to but was a pretty good experience. Clean & temp controlled. Good teenager service for the most part. Decent prices & snack quality.
NoiZeTribe4Life — Google review
Staff is always super nice. Quality of the theaters themselves aren't the best. You'll be staring at the screen trying to see through how dim it is, all while fighting off the brightest floor and exits sign lights. Sometimes, it's easier to just wait for the movie to hit Netflix.
Randy P — Google review
Went in to see 28 years later with a couple of my friends other manager did not come out to check IDs for other people at the movies but then when he saw the three of us since we dressed different than everyone else and we had piercings, he came out, demanded to check her IDs and then when we said we didn’t have them. He was refusing to give us a refund. He was trying to tell us that we could get a rain check, but we wanted a refund, but we had already purchased drinks and food as well. He also did not give us a refund for drinks and food BC saying we were being disrespectful I was in the back. I didn’t say anything the whole time he was saying this is no laughing matter then I told him I don’t know why you’re being so disrespectful to me. I haven’t said anything to you. He didn’t respond to that but he was getting ruder and ruder to us. He was refusing to give us he didn’t give us our popcorn. He only gave us drinks threatened to call the cops on us because we didn’t just sit there and let him degrade us.will never be back manger should be fired and never allowed to work in customer service
Cole S — Google review
Very dirty. Came in for an early movie and the concessions area was filthy. Food and trash on the floors. Not a single employee in sight until 5 minutes later when 4-5 employees finally came from out back to help me. The actual theater was dirty too as there was popcorn all over the place.

Came to the matinee for 28 years later. Since it was the first showing of the day I was surprised to see the counter and entry area in such disarray. Popcorn every where and floors so sticky we were sticking to the carpet in the hall. Stale popcorn, stale chips, definitely not worth the money. Ladies at the counter were polite, the only plus to the experience

These guys were amazing. They fixed our AC in under a day, and they did it for less than the over the phone quote. Highly recommend Tierra Del Sol!

I am beyond disappointed with this business. Tierra Del Sol was the third shop I took my truck too to be repaired. They diagnosed the problem as being my front differential. After driving my truck for 226 miles, the same problem/symptoms occured. Thankfully I was able to hobble into Albuquerque NM and put my RV in storage. I have been stranded in Albuquerque 2 weeks now. I paid $5200 after the military discount for the repair they did. At the time of my repair I told Zack it was imperative that they get this problem with my truck corrected because it was the third shop and 10 weeks later with nothing being done correctly. Also, that my truck and RV was my Home! While here in Albuquerque I have set up a GoFund me page to help me survive and get my truck fixed. I found a shop recommended by an insurance company. I do need a transmission. The price is $5600 after my military discount. I called Tierra Del Sol twice since being stranded here in Albuquerque. Haven't heard back. I do not recommend this business.

I recently took my car to Tierra Del Sol Auto for some major repairs, and I couldn't be happier with the experience. From the moment I walked in, the team provided excellent customer service—friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in getting my vehicle back on the road safely. They gave me an accurate quote upfront with no hidden fees or surprises, which made budgeting a breeze. Throughout the process, they kept me well-advised with timely updates on the repair progress, explaining everything clearly without any jargon. The work was completed on time, and my car runs better than ever. Highly recommend them for anyone needing reliable automotive service! 5 stars!

Very professional. Swapped an engine out in my jeep, and took care of any problems they found. Shop rates were about average for labor, and I’m pretty sure they took a hit on some of the time they spent on it. They also were a blast to talk with about vehicles and automotive repair. A very knowledgable shop.

Christ Community Church is a place of worship that focuses on teaching from the Bible. The people here are kind and caring, and their children are very active. It's great to be part of such a supportive community.
Christ Community Church has been a place of comfort, motivation and rescue for me. Pastor Tim Brock, along with the other pastoral staff, help provide sermons that really resonate with your soul. The general community of this church are friendly, uplifting and encouraging. I am extremely thankful for the ways they help this community, host events to encourage us all and help us engage with those around by asking for volunteers. Sunday Sermons are offered virtually if you aren’t able to attend in person to the three service times. The worship team is PHENOMENAL! They uplift us with their praises. The ushers and other volunteers are incredibly helpful and motivated. And I absolutely love the nursery staff for providing loving care. This church also offers Men and Women’s Bible studies, youth programs, marriage conferences, car shows, serving food to the local, reminding us of local help like the Pregnancy Help Center and so, so much more. If you’re looking for a church that not only offers food for your soul but a wonderful community, I HIGHLY recommend Christ Community Church.

I was born and raised in this church. Before it was big. I’ve been through every pastor . I lived a double minded life most of my life in and out of there growing up. yet Gods faithful love through the saints of this church. Continued to love and pray over me. the Cantu’s took over as senior pastor the year I got sober from alcohol and the way the Holy Spirit has moved through them. To disciple and convict me is immeasurable. I love the purpose they serve to bring us into the purpose, presence and family of God because for me there is no life apart from Jesus. I am only 3 years 3 months sober, celibate and surrendered, because of what Jesus can do! They offer an incredible Celebrate Recovery program which has been foundational on Jesus in my recovery. Thank you Christ Community Church of Alamogordo. For being a church of church of vulnerability and truth of the living word and the message of The Gospel!!

In today’s culture of a formulaic service (2 songs, a 30 min sermon and 2 songs) it was refreshing to be in a body who loves worshipping, who delivers a full-lengthen sermon that is chocked with scripture, and a body who loves fellowshipping with one another. A real gem.

Knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful!! We were in the area from out of state and brought our bikes for some off-road biking up in the mountains. Our son's Trek lost a crank arm (pedal) on our first ride. The bolt was stripped. The gentleman at Outdoor Adventures took time away from what he was doing to explain what was needed for a long-term fix, he looked over the bike and wrote down what part we needed to order. He even fixed us up with a replacement bolt for a short term fix. We appreciate so much the help and detailed instructions for the short term fix. It allowed us get back on the trails and enjoy the remainder of our trip.

I have purchased several bikes here over the decades, in addition to limping on in over the years to have a bike fixed. There's something about getting your bike tuned up here that makes it feel like a brand new bike all over again. I recently had two bikes worked on that were super rough and malfunctioning. These guys made them both feel like brand new bikes again for a very reasonable price.

Ed Brabson Balloon Park, located in Alamogordo, NM, offers a delightful experience for visitors to witness the colorful hot air balloons taking off and landing. The 24-acre flat land provides a perfect setting to relax on the soft grass while enjoying the spectacle of balloons decorating the sky. Although some visitors found it too windy at times, others had an enjoyable time watching the balloons being set up and taking off.
Had the luck to be in town for the White Sands Balloon Invitational. The weather was amazing and perfect for the balloons to go up. This was amazing! The locals clearly know to bring a chair and snacks. It's so cool to watch the balloons be inflated and go up. There were also free quick rides for those who signed up on the list. It wasn't a full ride in the balloon...a quick up in the air and back again. All the same, this would be great for anyone. Plenty of people brought their cameras to capture the sight. If you have the chance to attend, I say do it! Parking is pretty much get in where you fit in. We arrived early and left early as well.

Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport offers the convenience of one-way car rentals, allowing travelers to pick up a car in one location and return it at another. The airport is located near the Sacramento Mountains and Lincoln National Forest, providing stunning mountain scenery for visitors. The FBO at the airport provides full-service amenities, including 24/7 fueling and home-cooked food. Travelers can also enjoy delicious meals like the Southwest Patty Melt while visiting the area.
Went sightseeing over the Sacramento Mountains and Lincoln National Forest. Came out of the mountains at 10,000 ft and saw the airport and realized I needed to chop and drop to lose 5,000 ft to get into the pattern. Alamogordo is an abrupt flat drop off as soon as you get out of the mountains. Did that and landed to get some gas at the FBO. It's by the threshold of runway 4. A dude who said his name is Chuck came out and filled my tank. The FBO has a nice decor, the football game was playing in the living room, and it even has a kitchen, I suppose if you want to fix yourself some pancakes after your cross country flight you'll be good to go. They have a courtesy car, but a guy in a Cirrus beat me to it, took his family to White Sands National Park. Good for him. I'd get service here again.

White Sands National Park in New Mexico is a breathtaking destination featuring rare gypsum sand dunes, making it the largest such field in the world. The park offers a unique experience for visitors of all ages, with opportunities for activities like sliding down the dunes and hiking along various trails. It's recommended to visit during sunrise or sunset for an even more magical experience. However, visitors should be aware that the park may occasionally close due to nearby air force base activities.
One of the best sunsets I’ve seen. The sun makes the clouds colorful and the color changes millions times in an hour. Unlike other huge national parks, it does not need a week to explore everything, you can either enjoy the thrill of sand dune sliding or watch the sunset quietly.
Pu S — Google review
We were able to visit the Park today, even though there is a government shutdown. I was surprised at the visitor center, kinda run down and the restrooms were really poor. But the stark beauty of the park was stunning! They only had it open to the Dune Trail, couldn’t go past that point. We walked part of the trail. It is beautiful!
Irene E — Google review
White Sands National Park is a super cool & different place to see. It is an easy 45 minute drive from Las Cruces. We visited on a Monday midmorning. It was not busy. They do have limited trailer/bus parking. There is a park store with National Park souvenirs and a small exhibit as well as a gift shop where you can rent sleds. The Dunes Drive I believe is approximately 8 miles to the loop at the end. Along the drive there are a few parking areas that have picnic tables and restrooms. Many of the areas toward the end of the loop allow you to walk and sled on the sand. There are a couple trails to hike as well as remote camping when allowed. Make sure to bring water before entering the park as they don’t have services in the park. We spent about an hour exploring the park(we did not hike the trails). White Sands is massive but the park felt smaller than expected. If you’re in the area or can make a quick detour it’s worth seeing in person!
Emily S — Google review
The sand cools as the sun sets and it's not so windy like at many beaches, so there's quite a sense of serenity especially if you venture out to some of the more isolated dunes. Definitely the most ethereal national park I've been to The National Park center also lets you rent sleds to ride down the dunes and wax to apply to their bottoms, and although it's not quite as slick as snow sledding, there are some steep dunes that are about 30 ft high for you to gather enough speed to get a decent run. There's also hardly any internet connection once you're there, so make sure you have the physical map or have downloaded it in Google maps
Emc2 — Google review
White Sands National Park is incredible and truly feels like being on another planet. We visited as a large group and spent about three hours exploring. The scenic loop from the visitor center is easy to follow and has several picnic areas and parking spots. From one of the lots we found a steep dune that was perfect for sand sliding, and racing down the slopes made it even more fun for the group. The views in every direction are beautiful and the bright white dunes make the whole place look unreal. A memorable experience and a great place to enjoy both scenery and activity
Ratnam R — Google review
Great place! Recommend the back country trail (2 miles) and the Alkali Flat trails (5 miles)! The Alkali Flat trail is the longest trail in the park, took us about 2.5 hours because we would divert from the trail at parts, or sled down dunes, or for the million pictures I took. Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. You feel secluded. The dunes are remarkable. Highly recommend this trail if you are used to hiking. Follow the red markers and start off going left (clockwise). Bring plenty of water, a hat, sunglasses, decent shoes, and expect lots of sand in your shoes. Bring a sled if you want to slide down the dunes. Buy a sled the day before at Walmart in Alamogordo for like $6 because the park charges $25 for the same thing. But make sure you put wax on the bottom. We spent about 5 hours in the park and felt like that was enough time. Highly recommend visiting this park! It’s beautiful! $25 per vehicle to enter the park with up to 7 people I believe. Buy your ticket online ahead of time for convenience.

I ordinarily avoid any kind of tourist or gift shop on the road. But for some reason we pulled over and it was the right decision to make to visit the Heart of the desert store. The help was fantastic and the variety of pistachios and items made with pistachios along with oil and balsamic vinaigrette.

Fantastic wines and so much more! This location is calm and relaxing which created a wonder ambiance and no rush or lines. The wine tasting is generous and free and I was surprised at the full flavor of the wines along with the variety. We wound up buying two bottles of wine but I know I’m going to kick for not getting more. The ice cream and chocolates were delish. The gift shop was tasteful with home decor featuring wine related items. The oils and balsamic vinegars were excellent so we bought two bottles of that too. The staff is so friendly and very happy to give samples. They are knowledgeable any the products. Many items were on sale. Highly recommend this location, the other two pistachio places looked like tourist traps. This location felt relaxed even on the busy weekend.

Great Stop! We did the wine tasting. All the reds are good. White is not my jam, however they were not as dry as expected. Very smooth wine. We bought a few bottles, couple bottles of local beer. Definitely try this wine. It’s all smooth, none of those tart tannins.

The fact that this is been such a long-standing pistachio farm in Alamogordo is very impressive and we hope it continues on for a long time. In particular a shout out to Lisa, Tara, and Sabrina for their warmth and help. We really enjoyed the fun wine, tasting room, all the different varieties of pistachio flavors and the chocolate! I probably spent more money than I should have but the staff present that day really made it a fun time for all of us. I highly recommend this farm to every traveler and going on the tour with Lisa is worth coordinating your schedule for!

We thought we were too late for the tour but we were able to get an exclusive tour with Melissa and Carolyn. It was very educational and they were so kind and knowledgeable. We got to try as many samples of pistachio flavors and wine. The wines were so yummy! I’m not a wine drinker but we bought several varieties of wine and bags of pistachios. We would definitely recommend this shop. I would suggest some non-dairy ice cream flavors (lactose intolerance) and wine spritzers because the sweeter and fruitier wines would be so refreshing as a spritzer for lightweight drinkers like me.
NG B — Google review
We had lots of fun looking around, buying pistachios, eating ice cream, talking with the extremely kind and gentle staff. I was surprised to also find beautiful jewelry, sunglasses, and discover even more types of flavored pistachios (green/red chili, red chili with lime). And they let you sample whatever you want!
Kanisa “ — Google review
The tour was great and the staff outstanding. Very educational how pistachios are grown and the work involved to get it into the stores. Don’t forget to try the wine, it is wonderful. We left with plenty of wine and pistachios. It is such a nice story how this family started with just a few trees it became what it is today.

Next time we will.plan to stay longer, attend a tour and enjoy the patio. The staff is friendly and informative. The prices are reasonable and the product is delicious.

Well worth the effort. Combined our NM trip with re watching Oppenheimer movie, a trip to Los Alamos NHP and National Nuclear Museum in Albuquerque. Arrive early. Suggest going to Souvenir Stand, then McDonald House , as bus lines get long ended with a visit to the Trinity Site. They only do the open house 1x a year now, in October fyi

I went while on a group trip, we had a great time touring the site and the McDonald ranch house. Our guide, Jen was very knowledgeable and helpful.
Serena — Google review
Trinity Site in New Mexico is a historically significant location, marking the site of the first atomic bomb detonation on July 16, 1945. Located within the White Sands Missile Range, it offers a rare glimpse into a pivotal moment in history and the dawn of the nuclear age. Visitors can explore the remains of the test site, including the concrete slab where the explosion occurred and the Trinity monument, which commemorates this groundbreaking event. The site is open to the public twice a year, in April and October, and provides an educational experience through informative displays and guided tours. The vast, stark desert landscape surrounding Trinity Site adds to its somber and contemplative atmosphere, making it a powerful place for reflection on the profound impact of scientific advancements on humanity. Facilities are minimal, so visitors should come prepared with water, sun protection, and appropriate clothing. Overall, Trinity Site is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, science buffs, and those interested in understanding the complex legacy of nuclear technology. Its unique combination of scientific achievement and historical gravity makes it a compelling destination that leaves a lasting impression.

Me and my family came for a visit and it was SO FUN! we bathed in the sun so much but I found the a really good tan until about July 16th we saw a big flash of light and we got instantly tanned as if god answered are weird prayers! Only downside was that we look like gouls and don't have noses but I'm sure it's just a side effect, plus I got this cool pic of a cloud I saw :) there's also a pic on there of me but it's old
Jenson B — Google review
Went last October for the public day. We flew into Albuquerque, drove down to the site, and slept in the car outside of the gate for the night so we could be in line early. Got in line, drove the road to the site with all others there for the 2 days out of the year it is open to public. The military has it down to the parking, bussing people to the ranch and the food and vendor location. I am personally not into history like my husband, but it was nice to see once in my life.
Jodi J — Google review
Site is only open 1 day a year on the 3rd Saturday in October. Free and no tickets to purchase, just make sure you arrive early...we arrived an hour before the gates opened and had over 50 cars ahead of us. By the time 8am arrived the cars were backed up to the road...about 5 miles. The site itself is a bit of a drive from the gates but the roads are good. They also have a shuttle that takes you to the McDonald house where the bomb was completed. Lots of historic pictures and information surround both the site and the house. We went with a Geiger counter which showed the radiation as pretty low, with the highest readings away from the obelisk a few feet.
Rebecca B — Google review
I have had the chance to visit this site a few times. Visiting the Trinity Site was a sobering experience. As the location of the world’s first atomic bomb test, it holds immense historical significance. The entire world changed on that July morning. You can feel the weight of the events that took place here. The site is only open to the public twice a year. We showed up to the Stallion Gate at 5 am and were 4th in line. We had a short wait for the gates to be opened. We were greeted by friendly and efficient security staff. The site itself is marked by an obelisk at ground zero, surrounded by historical photos and information. The shuttle bus to the McDonald ranch house, where Oppenheimer and other scientists observed the test, was a highlight. Many people are searching for Trinitite, the green glass mineral formed from the heat of the explosion on the desert sand. There is none left and it is illegal to remove it from the site. We sparked a lot of interest with a Geiger counter we brought with us. Be prepared for long lines and crowds, especially with the increased interest following the release of the movie Oppenheimer.

This vast park in the mountains offers campsites, hiking trails, an old ranch house & natural pools.
This is in the desert but it has great ramadas for a day cookout. The cost is $10 for a day stay. They also have overnight camping. The have a short trail it’s starts out being an easy kept trail. When it ends it becomes a moderate but still easy to follow trail. It is a pleasant walk with rattle snake warnings. The trail ends at
R A — Google review
A beautiful ( overpriced ) state park with some of the friendliest employees I've ever met. The trails are nice and range from difficult to easy, the campsites are well maintained and many of them are level. The restrooms were way on the other side of the campground from where I was camping, which was a bit of a disappointment, but I'm sure those that were right next to it wouldn't share that complaint.. ( I wouldn't have wanted to be right next to them .. though they were very clean and the showers were better than most .. there was a slight smell in that area ). When reserving online, you are hit with extra fees, and I believe the total came to $24 for a primitive campsite for out of state guests .. which is ridiculous. The visitor center has nice displays, and I love that some of the historical features of the area have been kept. I've never paid this much money for a primitive campsite in my life and don't plan to again. There are some great free campsites on BLM land just outside the state park boundaries. Great showers and awesome attendants, custodians, and hosts. The people who work at this state park made it almost worth the price. Bravo.
Rebecca L — Google review
We stayed here two night while in town to visit White Sands National Park. This state park is very nice. Paved loop plenty of big sites. It currently is first come first serve for the time of year and there was nearly every site open. It’s crazy hot in the day so having electricity was very nice. We stayed in site 24 with a 42ft 5th wheel and had plenty of room. The water hookup was leaky so we used the water from our tank not the parks. The dump station is unavailable due to some construction. The park is up next to the mountains and has a great view of everything as far as you can see. White Sands is visible in the distance, it’s about a 25 minute drive to the park. The bathroom and showers are nice and clean. The shower temp is hot or hotter so don’t get too excited for a refreshing cool shower. We enjoyed our time here, it was nice and quiet this time of year. Not many out camping in the heat.
Chancee W — Google review
Lovely campground. Enjoyed our site. (Site 006) (We didn’t use the bath house) the lighted walk way was nice for early morning dog walks. Convenient for White Sands and easy to go to Alamogordo. Dump station closed which put a wrinkle in our schedule.
Jen W — Google review
Oliver Lee has a nice visitor center and desert garden with labeled plants. Getting there takes you through a pretty bad area and you might question if you are headed to the right place. The hiking is very limited and really has only one very strenuous trail up into dog canyon then a few very short trails that couldn’t even fill a half day. The dog canyon trail is 5.2 miles to the top gaining 3,200’ of elevation then back down making for a full very strenuous day. It is beautiful landscape but the challenge is not for everyone. And the trail maps they have available are ridiculously tiny, you need reading glasses to read the 1/4 sheet of paper and does not have the complete dog canyon trail on it. There is a nice desert campground with very sweet camp hosts and spacious gravel sites, some with utilities and picnic table shade shelters, some without. There are a couple of scattered pit toilets which were actually cleaner and nicer than the one “comfort station” with flush toilets and showers. It was dirty, smelled bad and the showers were scalding hot (not adjustable) and barely spit out enough water to rinse off in. Granted both times I showered were the end of the day after all the families had washed their kids, so mess is expected. But stink? And the showers were just bad. The campground was said to be booked full the whole time we were there but about a quarter of the sites were unoccupied because people who had reserved them didn’t show and didn’t cancel so that someone else could use the site. There were people who had to camp in the overflow parking area with no amenities because of folks who weren’t thoughtful enough to cancel when they couldn’t show up. Please don’t be those people! Cancel if you can’t be there even if it is the same day and you can’t get a refund. Parks are busy and people are waiting for sites.
Amanda M — Google review
Most ghetto shower I've gotten to use in a long time. Maybe a gallon will flow every five minutes, maybe not once someone flushes a toilet or uses a sink, THEN you get a tablespoon of water at a time... Luke warm water at that.... and limited hours to access the bathroom too if your using a day pass... Pretty petty, pretty filthy with hair all over and not enough water to clean the shower... With the increased cost of visitor passes especially from out of state, this is shameful. Also tried to use a water spigot only to find it was out of order. No sign, no nothing, just a waste of my time.
Hey M — Google review
The views are amazing! There's a short trail to a picnic table if you don't want to hike for 10 hours to Cloudcroft but still want to enjoy the beauty.

Dear Oliver Lee, what happened to you???? Campground is showing it's age. Only one stall working in men's bathroom with active rodent infestation. The womens bathroom has only one functioning shower. The hike into Dog Canyon is gone due to floods and lack of maintenance. NM has money, why is no one taking care of this once prestine state park? *Camp host is very friendly

This was not planned, but happily happened! Very cool experience to see this very valuable part of the environment. Lots of fun to run around and take plenty of pictures. Bring the family so that you are not alone in your pictures. 😃

Short elevated boardwalk that dead ends in the middle of some sand dunes. Lots of informational blurbs along the way about the flora and fauna. Plenty of opportunities to find bleached earless lizards. If you’re looking for something accessible this is it! If you’re looking for breathtaking views this isn’t it in my opinion, and you’ll find what you’re looking for further into the park.
Scarlett H — Google review
This is an interesting area, you are basically in the middle of the transformation from grassy area to pure sand dunes with some plants still hanging on. The trail is study and allows even those with a disability to get back in the dunes. I saw several people hoping off the trail towards the end or at the shelter and personally I felt the views of the dunes were better, deeper in the park.
Trypp A — Google review
The Interdune Boardwalk is a great way to experience the White Sand dunes. It is an elevated path with handrails displaying information on the dunes, plants, wildlife, etc. It’s a very easy walk, accessible to all including people in wheelchairs. Located directly off a parking lot.

Beautiful place. Great for the kids and there is so much room it isn't overcrowded. Negative is the gift shop closes at 7:30 and park at 9:30. We arrived just after it closed and couldn't purchase sleds. Made do with a box and they still had a blast.

Would have given it six stars but I couldn’t make a single snowball . The snow was so warm there! But seriously it was like it was a white Christmas in the summer. Great looking dunes lots of wild life. Couldn’t get pics of a white and sky blue lizard that was running around the dune grass. Great place to go if you are in the area.

Unfortunately disappointing. We arrived in late afternoon of 19th and the streets were blocked for repair. There were signs explaining that businesses were open but we did not see any besides a pool hall that had no customers. I did not see a single person in a 4 block area. I expected to find local restaurants or bars or something but it was dead.

Food was good and worth the wait but its kinda confusing if it's your first time. There is no window to order and after they come to you and take your order its not clear how they keep track of you or if they even put in your order but somehow they got it all right and didn't miss anything.

It's a bit underwhelming. It's technically there but fairly deserted, unoccupied buildings, inactive. A few open businesses. It still deserves a look for the few historical structures. Maybe a work in progress?
