Plaza Botero in Medellín, Antioquia is a renowned public space that serves as an open-air museum featuring 23 striking bronze sculptures created by the celebrated Colombian artist Fernando Botero. These larger-than-life statues, characterized by their exaggerated proportions and voluptuous forms, depict a diverse range of subjects from animals to human figures. Strategically placed within the square, these sculptures not only showcase Botero's artistic talent but also aim to make art an integral part of everyday life for visitors.
This plaza is full of life and character. Surrounded by the hustle of Medellín, the sculptures by Botero invite people to sit, laugh, and interact. It’s not a quiet museum it’s art in the middle of everyday life, with vendors, families, and music all around. It’s the kind of place where you feel both the culture and the local experience. Be alert and take care of your belongings.
TanTravel818 — Google review
Must see plaza in Medellin. The sculptures are magnificent. The museum is worth visiting (40k pesos) for the art work alone. Lots of food stalls and restaurants in the area. Recommend travel to and from by taxi. Area is sketchy but plaza area is safe with normal caution.
Frank — Google review
A very lively area that offers a great local experience. The square is beautiful, with impressive large sculptures from Botero, and it’s easy to explore on foot or by bike. We visited twice: once on a bike tour and once on our own. The only downside is that it gets very crowded and unfortunately has a strong urine smell in many spots. We did not visit the museums unfortunately.
Shilton D — Google review
A beautiful, bustling plaza with great food options and cultural experiences abounding. It isn’t the cleanest city park I’ve been to, but it is certainly worth a visit to stop by the surrounding museums and explore the adjacent markets.
Daniel M — Google review
One of the main squares in the city, bustling with life, street vendors and it felt very safe. Lot of police patrolling the streets. You can find lot of vendors selling different drinks and snacks as you walk around and enjoy the sculptures of Fernando Botero, Antioquia’s very own.
Lukasz ( — Google review
Walking through Plaza Botero felt like stepping into a living art gallery. The massive bronze sculptures were impossible to ignore—bold, playful, and full of character. Surrounded by Medellín’s energy, I felt the city’s soul come alive. Locals, tourists, street performers—everyone added to the vibe. It’s a place where art meets real life. I could’ve stayed there for hours.
Jamaica P — Google review
It's a shame that Botero sculptures are placed in a park that is dirty, smells bad, there's trash on the ground, people under the influence of drugs speaking nonsense, prostitutes, etc. It simply feels unsafe and not appropriate for families with small children. It's a beautiful park that is being wasted. I've been many times to Medellín but we don't dare to visit the park unless we have men in our group. You don't feel safe unless your are in a group and several locals with you in order to feel protected. There was a robbery while we were there and it was a little uncomfortable to see people yelling and running in different directions. The municipality needs to clean this place and send policeman. Tourist are missing the chance to enjoy the Art of Botero because of fear of being robbed.
Carla L — Google review
Ay mami, it can get dangerous so badly and quickly, you don’t even realize it when you’re already in danger. Be cautious at every time and watch around. The plaza botero is wonderful and it means something very special to medellin. Do a walking tour first and then go out on yourself into the medellin city centre but don’t do the opposite like me. The metro station is right underneath tje bridge, you basically exit the merro and stand on the plaza botero. Be careful and enjoy.

National park
Parque Arví is a sprawling ecotourism park located to the east of Medellin, accessible via the renowned Medellin Metrocable cable-car system. It boasts an extensive area with numerous walking and hiking trails, a picturesque lake, and diverse exhibits showcasing its remarkable biodiversity. Visitors can explore nearly 15 miles of winding trails surrounded by lush vegetation and stunning floral displays.
It was such a unique experience going to Parque Arví. I enjoyed the 30 minute cable ride and all of the views. Once arriving at the park, there’s a cute area with a bunch of vendors and handmade crafts. I went with a friend, and we sat at the café and drank coffee. I was kind of expecting there to be more of an actual walking trail or something like that. Maybe there is and I just didn’t see it. I think it’s a nice place to go and a lot of people enjoy it, but I thought there was going to be a little bit more nature to experience. But again it might’ve just been that I didn’t know exactly where to go. It was still lovely and the cable ride was a big part of the experience.
Rachael H — Google review
What a gem to see when you visit Medellin. It’s a very large park and most of it can only be seen by bus, bike, motorbike or car. However, the gondola ride up has amazing views of the city and valley and their are a few walking paths close to the gondola station, which you pay to enter. There are lots of birds, trees and plants to see and many food and drink vendors. You can also hire a guide or rent a horse. I highly recommend it.
JMQZ — Google review
I imagine there are lots of different experiences you can have here. We (family with 8 and 11 year old) did a 7.2 km free (unguided) hike. The trails were decently maintained, but completely unmarked. Warning: download a trail map like All Trails or something. We alternated between conifer forest and jungle-y forest. There were no views, and the half of the time we were in the jungle-y part, it came to be a bit oppressive and claustrophobic (though we did take a short cut about halfway through, but the main trail could be like that too). Overall interesting experience--getting there cable car was easy (but about $30 each way for 4 of us)-- and it was an interesting hike. Not for the faint of heart or someone without a steady map app, but also not a difficult hike for anyone who can walk 4 miles. Don't do it alone. We went on a Tuesday and did not see one other person on the actual hike, though there were hundreds at the center. No one seemed like they were there to hike.
Skye H — Google review
Was a great place to hike. You can take the metro station to this place and then a cable car up to the park itself. You have to pay to hike the loop. However, if you just want to hang out, enjoy nature, and walk around up there you can. You can also enjoy the food and small businesses selling their products. Reguardless what you are up there for, it's worth it.
Krystina N — Google review
The cable car is superb with excellent views across Medellin and Arvi Park. When in the park, the tours are very interesting with a lot to see. Plenty of stalls offering food and drink at the start which are very good value.
Julian W — Google review
There was a wonderful hike, with lots of gorgeous nature to admire and wonderful views of Medellin around every corner. I loved this hike so much!
Christian H — Google review
Parque Arví is a natural gem in the mountains of Medellín. It’s the perfect place to disconnect from the city’s noise and reconnect with nature. You can get there by cable car, which is already an amazing experience with stunning views. There are eco-trails, local guides, farmer’s markets, and a magical vibe. Perfect for hiking, breathing fresh air, and enjoying a unique day out!
Naila J — Google review
Great outdoor adventure near Medellin. Very beautiful. Lots of good hiking. Gift shop plus snack bar available and very reasonable. I enjoyed the cable car ride up to the park - great views of the city and park. Would definitely go back. So much to see and do if you enjoy the outdoors

Botanical garden
Science museum
Jardín Botánico de Medellín is a captivating botanical garden that showcases a diverse array of plant species, along with educational exhibits and a butterfly house. Situated in the former location of Parque De Las Luces, this garden has undergone significant transformation and now stands as a peaceful oasis in the city. Visitors can enjoy leisurely strolls amidst enchanting plants, including rare species, perennial trees, and vibrant greenhouses.
The Botanical Garden in Medellín is a beautiful and peaceful oasis in the middle of the city. The variety of plants and the thoughtful layout make it a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Unfortunately, it rained during our visit, so some of the animals (like birds and iguanas) were a bit harder to spot. Still, the experience was wonderful – the lush greenery, the orchid collection, and the calm atmosphere made it absolutely worth it. Highly recommended, especially on a sunny day!
Raffael T — Google review
We visited today to see the Flower Festival exhibit, and it was amazing! The grounds were beautiful, well maintained, and offered plenty of shady spots to relax and enjoy nature. The flower displays were absolutely stunning, bursting with color and creativity. In addition to the blooms, there were food vendors, craft stalls, and jewelry stands to explore, adding to the festive atmosphere. It was a bit crowded, but overall it was a wonderful experience and well worth the visit.
Desiree M — Google review
I had a wonderful time visiting the botanical garden in Medellín. It’s free to enter, but you have to bring your ID. For international tourist that means just bringing a copy of your passport. I went twice during my month stay here. It’s really lovely and it feels like a safe place just to walk around by myself and take pictures of plants.
Rachael H — Google review
Very recommendable. Beautifully designed Botanic Garden with a pound where you can observe turtles and iguanas. The thoughtful layout facilitates a deeply enjoyable learning experience. I tried one of the restaurants inside the park, Del Bosque. The food was good, but the drink was outstanding. Indeed, one of the best strawberry daiquiris I’ve ever tasted.
Jose S — Google review
Super beautiful place to walk, sit and enjoy nature. Many shady areas, grass and benches. Restaurant and other food areas to eat. I highly recommend especially in the heat of the day.
JMQZ — Google review
Visited on 4/10. There was an event going on so half the park was closed off. You pay a small fee to visit the butterfly dome that has a few species. The flowershop is worth a visit for its choice of cacti. This is something to do if you have enough time.
Peter J — Google review
Beautiful. Great place to unwind in the heart of the city. Awesome spot to see iguanas and wild macaws up in the treetops. Magical.

The Museum of Antioquia, established in 1881, is one of Colombia's oldest and most important museums. It boasts a diverse art collection spanning from colonial times to contemporary pieces, providing visitors with a comprehensive journey through the region's artistic development. The museum is renowned for its extensive display of works by native artists Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez.
It housed two floors of exhibits. Each corner gives a different perspective from the artist eyes. I enjoyed my walk through and encouragement you to do the same if you enjoy creative expression.
Kimberly H — Google review
It's a large museum with various of art forms. Really interesting display and there was 3 floors available. It's definitely worth the visit as it focuses on colombian artists, especially Botero
Jada M — Google review
The Museum of Antioquia is a beautiful and impressive space with three floors full of art to explore. It’s quite big, and you can find a wide range of styles—from modern pieces to older works—each offering a unique perspective through the eyes of different artists. Entry is reasonably priced, and the flow of visitors makes it comfortable to walk through; it wasn’t overcrowded when I went, but it wasn’t empty either, so you still feel the energy of the place. You really get the chance to take your time and enjoy the exhibits. Highly recommend if you’re in Medellín!
Destiny B — Google review
Very nice Museum with lots of art work 🖼 from colombian 🇨🇴 artist Fernando Botero, Francisco Cano, Ana Mercedes Hoyos and other artists from South America. The building is a three level plus basement, so it takes about 2.5 hours to fully capture all of the art work 🖼. There are staircase and elevators 🛗 on the front and back of the Museum. They have a restaurant, book store and souvenir shop. Restrooms 🚻 are only on the first floor and on one side of the building. I recommend visiting this Museum at least once. 👍👍
Jezze — Google review
Great experience at the Museum of Antioquia. Good collection of 20th century modern art by Colombian artists like Botero. Nice large building and galleries. A little warm inside, nice little cafe, wished the gift shop were larger and offered more items.

Must do if you’re visiting Medellin. 46,000 for entrance for foreigners. Free guide in English on Mondays 11 as well as other free guide in Spanish during the week at 14. We had an amazing experience with our knowledgeable guide. 5 stars!
Anna V — Google review
A wonderful museum well-worth visiting. I love that it’s in the heart of Plaza Botero, which is thriving with local vendors and everyday folks walking around. I like that the museum isn’t overwhelmingly large, you can actually be engaged the whole visit.
Hallie A — Google review
Foreigner price is 40000 cop just FYI. There were great amount of paintings which I really enjoyed a lot. Lot of the foot traffic was on the Botero exhibit on the third floor but my favorite was the works of Francisco Antonio Cano Cardona exhibit located on the first floor (As of Aug 2025). I actually really enjoyed the museum itself and wish that I could give it five stars but I had to take one star away since the museum is located in a pretty shady area. And it is actually located inside a square so you have to walk a bit to get the museum from your uber and vice versa. With me sticking out like a sore thumb as a tourists, I was approached by lady of the night, a drug seller, and some homeless person literally all within half block walk to my Uber. "No, esta bien, gracias" was repeated over and over by me until I was able to get in my Uber.

El Castillo Museum and Gardens is a grand castle-style home-turned-museum located in El Poblado, Medellin. It was once a private residence of a local textile baron and is now known for its impressive architecture inspired by the European monarchies' golden age. The museum boasts the largest collection of decorative arts in Medellin and offers temporary art exhibits.
I really enjoyed visiting this place, It feels fresh and relaxing, with a magical ambience that makes you want to exist in there. It’s perfect for working, walking around, having a picnic, meditating, or simply enjoying a good afternoon. You can come alone or with your family, and it still feels really welcoming. The gardens and architecture add a unique charm that makes the visit special. Definitely worth it—I loved it.
Milton C — Google review
Beautiful ambiance. Beautiful Garden to take photos. However, i’m giving 4 stars because it’s advertised as 20,000 colombian pesos but keep in mind that’s just for the garden. To visit both garden and castle, it’s an additional 7,000 colombian pesos per person. In the castle you can not take photos. No photos are allowed and it must be a guided group tour. The tour is supposed to be about 50mins but ours was going on for an hour and a half. We were on a time crunch so we just ended up leaving in the middle of the tour. The tour was educational and nice if you’re into learning the history of things but if you just wanna roam around at your own pace and take photos, i would not recommend & would just purchase the garden ticket. If i had known you couldn’t take pictures in the castle i most likely wouldn’t have purchased the combo ticket but they don’t tell you until the tour starts. There seemed to be a couple people in our group also taken aback with not being able to take photos. Overall, beautiful castle and beautiful garden. Nice visit if you have free time
Angelica V — Google review
Very nice castle. I really enjoyed my tour guide he was very knowledgeable also the garden is amazing. The only issue is that the tour is very short because the castle is t that big inside. But overall it’s a great history lesson and I’d go back again.
Kenneth R — Google review
Was a beautiful and relaxing experience. We order a picnic online with them and it was very enjoyable. We also took a tour of the castle and it was very interesting. Definitely Recommend. 5/5 would picnic again!
Krystina N — Google review
The combined ticket for both the museum and the gardens costs COP 27,000, while a garden-only ticket is slightly cheaper at COP 22,000. The museum itself can only be visited as part of a guided tour, which is conducted in Spanish and lasts about an hour. It’s not a large museum, mainly showcasing artifacts related to the castle’s founders, so the visit feels relatively brief. The gardens, on the other hand, are well maintained and offer peaceful spots to sit, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. They’re arguably the highlight of the visit if you’re looking for a quiet escape. Overall, it’s a decent place to spend some time, but the entrance fee does feel a bit on the high side for what’s offered.

El Castillo Museum in Medellín is a gem! Its stunning Gothic architecture, vibrant art collection, and lush gardens create an enchanting experience. Friendly staff and a cozy vibe

Build in 1930, based on the French design, it is located high on the hill, quite a walk if you’re into that. Tickets 22000 just for the garden, 27K if you want a guided tour in Spanish. ,

El Castillo Museo y Jardines is a hidden gem in Medellín—a romantic, culture‑rich escape with a beautiful blend of art, architecture, and gardens. While interior tours may feel rushed and lack English narration at times, the overall experience of exploring historic rooms and wandering lush gardens is rewarding. Ideal for art lovers, history buffs, or anyone seeking a peaceful afternoon getaway in the city.

Fantastic experience! The best neighborhood tour I have ever taken! Toto’s energy is contagious, and his respectful translation of Hortensia’s stories and explanations was inspiring and such a valuable contribution to my understanding of this beautiful, complex city and country. I cannot recommend this tour enough. Sure, do the Comuna 13 tour, but please also consider doing this Comuna 4 (Barrio) Transformation tour!

Our tour guide Dio provided us with a thorough retelling of the story of Medellin, leading us through several sites downtown. His way of breaking down the timeline of the city's history with context and stories made it very clear and easy to remember. He shared with us details about history, politics, the economy, culture, urban renewal, and bits of his own personal experiences and perceptions that brought it all to life. Dio was very knowledgeable -- he answered every question from the group with great intelligence and insight. The pace of the tour was veyr good, and I left with so much more knowledge and familiarity with this interesting and wonderful place. This is one of the best walking tours of any city I've ever experienced. Thank you to Real City! I recommend it for everyone who visits Medellin.

Absolutely fantastic walking tour and the best way to introduce yourself to the city. Our guide Dio was incredible, he educated us on the history and transformation of the city in a very engaging and easy to understand way. He also shared his own personal experiences which was very moving. All in all a must-do activity while in Medellin.

This was an excellent, informative free walking tour. Pablo was friendly, knowledgeable and approachable! I went with my husband and 11 year old son. We all loved the tour and learning more about Medellin. The tour did touch on real aspects of life in Medellin (past and present) including sex work and drugs. Pablo was aware that some parents may not want their kids to be exposed to those discussions and sights and gave us a heads up before hand, which was very thoughtful.

Defently one of the best free walking Tours we ever had (and we did a lot all around the world). German, the guide, was so lovely, funny and you see that he loves his job and city. In my view a must Must this tour. He explains you the truth about the city and of course the nice things :)

Pablo is amazing. He is a wonderful storyteller. I did the English tour with him today and it was one of the best walking tours I have done. He explained the history from a neutral standpoint but at the same time, expressed his own opinions as well. He is a very solid storyteller and highly recommend the Tour

Amazing selection. the food was delicious no fried Mamá Cocina because I wanted to try local food. My friend had the Indian Tandoori. Highly recommend

We came here for lunch and chose the Peruvian restaurant among the many options available. The presentation was great, and the food was delicious, though it did feel a bit commercial. Still, it’s a good spot to try at least once, especially if you’re with a big group. The location is super convenient — close to everything!

What a great place to do many things depending on the mood your in. From a nice cup of coffee to a wide variety of wines and dishes of all sorts. The ambiance is soothing in the afternoon just ideal for a coworking session and on weekend nights this place turns into a real social club gathering the ‘cream & butter’ of the city.

We had lunch here with all the local white collar workers in the area. Everyone was there with their colleagues or friends. It gave the market a lively and inviting atmosphere. There were so many food options. We opted for menu de dia with the chicharron - it was delicious! We were a bit lost and a very nice stranger who spoke English offered to translate for us and helped us out. Great experience, would love to come back!

Whilst visiting the food market Mercado del Rio, I ordered from la Cocina de Mama - a Colombian food vendor. This was my first lunch in Colombia so I wasn't totally sure what to get, but settled with meat and fries plus a cheesy side. The food and service was great. Mercado del Rio itself had a number of amazing looking vendors, as well as a great setup for drinks and sport with a massive television.

A special interesting building. Some good exhibits about local issues. You can see their effort to present a creative and wide spectrum of ideas and topics. Multiple floors so lots to see. A well curated gift shop, we bought souvenirs and some notebooks.

Was expecting much more from this museum and was frankly disappointed at the paucity of exhibits. Some interesting exhibits but overall not really worth the 24k COP entry fee for foreigners. The most interesting part was the Khaka exhibit and video of the cultural significance of coca in the continent. Video runs on a loop for around 15 minutes.

A really creative and unique place to take the family! Interesting and educational activities for all ages, lots of interactive exhibits with a medium aquarium and an outdoor portion as well. Well worth a visit!

This was a decent place to go with kids. The outdoor section was pretty good, though some of the exhibits were broken. Indoors was also okay, but could be a bit overwhelming at times, and the explanations of the science behind the exhibits wasn't really that clear in Spanish or in English. There was a fun map of a community on the wall of one of the buildings, with clues for kids to find. We had a blast looking at this for almost an hour, coming up with our own characters to find.

It should be better kept. A zen garden is about the tranquility. The sand is in terrible shape as the grass around. Not really the intended experience
Ricardo A — Google review
Basically not a park. It's a green space located in rpm business plaza which has apparently become a tourist attraction. Here you will interact with 3 different elements. Water, sand and the woods. Tour guide advised us to go bare foot to connect with nature. There are 2 modern food places in the rpm building

Plaza Cisneros, also known as the Park of Lights, is a historic square in downtown Medellin that has undergone significant transformation. Renovated in 2005, it now boasts 300 dramatic light poles that create an artificial forest of lights. Named after Francisco Javier Cisneros, the Cuban engineer who constructed the Antioquia Railway, this plaza has become a popular tourist attraction.
In my experience, it was a relaxing place; not too many people which is great because you get to enjoy it even more. It definitely has its charm to it. I must now spend time there when it's not raining or at night. Still, the rain gave it a different but very interesting look that I loved.

It’s a pretty nice place to relax. There are also street vendors nearby and it’s not too far from Plaza Botero another great place to relax and watch the world go by. Highly recommend this place if you just want a place to relax and enjoy the scenery. There is also a water fountain and a library nearby. Only downside is that there are a lot of homeless in the area.

Interesting park. Within a busy commericial area. Located between a library and couple of newly restored historic buildings. Very picturesque. The hotel receptionist warned us that it is within the not so safe part of medellin. Police and guards from nearby establishments are around. Nice pubs, coffeeshops and restaurants nearby. There are occasional buskers within the park. Nothing much to do than to take nice pictures. More interesting places are just nearby

The area now boasts bars, souvenir shops, and vibrant urban artwork that brightens up the previously dilapidated buildings.
Amazing tour to do. The neighborhood is beautiful and full of history. It is worth doing it with a local guide to know everything about the history and culture of the place, very important both for Medellin and Colombia in general. It is a must do in the city of Medellin ! I hope I will come back one day to explore every street. I definitely recommend !

An unforgettable place in Medellín!” Comuna 13 is full of life, color, and stories. Walking through the streets feels like stepping into an open-air art gallery — every wall tells a piece of history. The people are friendly, the music never stops, and the energy is inspiring. It’s incredible to see how this area has transformed into a symbol of hope and creativity. Highly recommend visiting, especially around sunset when the views are amazing.

This was one of the coolest things we did in Medellín and we were really happy with our choice of tour operator. We were welcomed by the easily recognizable team at the station. Our tourguide Sebastian grew up in the neighbourhood and told us a lot about its history. We knew all the shortcuts and small streets that the bigger commercial tours do not visit. Because we took another route it was not too busy. We passed several of the interesting places and tasted many different types of streetfood. We had a great time and can certainly recommend this tour to anyone!

Really a great place.! I would highly recommend anyone visiting. The view of the neighbourhood is really beautiful. Also friendly for the people how has difficulty walking. There is no ticket needed and also possible to do without guide.

Better than expected. It's a huge street full of stores and restaurants. It's all uphill with some electric stairs but it's mostly walking. You don't feel it cause you stop all the time to shop it just to look around and take pictures. Totally loved it.

Fantastic and fascinating experience! Completely hassle free, perhaps because we were with a local guide. After entering the neighborhood up a 100 metres of steep climbing we found the escalators that take you to the top. Genius!
Duncan H — Google review
Visiting Comuna 13 was a powerful and unforgettable experience. Once known for violence, it’s now a vibrant, artistic, and welcoming neighborhood full of color, life, and resilience. The street art is stunning—each mural tells a story of hope, struggle, and pride. We took a guided tour led by a local who shared personal stories and deep insights into the history and culture. Between live hip-hop shows, food vendors, and incredible views, it felt more like a living museum than a tour. The escalators and cable cars make it surprisingly accessible, though you’ll still do some walking. Go during the day, wear comfy shoes, and bring cash for snacks and tips. Highly recommended—it’s one of the most meaningful things you can do in Medellín.

The Catedral Metropolitana de Medellín, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Medellin, is a significant landmark in the city. Constructed with over 1,120,000 adobe bricks, it stands as one of the largest baked clay structures globally. The cathedral boasts impressive Romanesque architecture and is adorned with beautiful artwork inside. As the principal church of the Archdiocese of Medellin, it holds great cultural and historical importance in the region.
Visited the Cathedral on a Sunday for prayer and was in awe by the size and magnificent stained glass windows. It's a peaceful space with many pews and has a history from Spanish Colonial times. There is a fountain outside with benches for seating and access to the inside from a few entrances on the street. If you decide to check out the interior keep your voice to a whisper for respect, as there are many locals praying.

It's a nice place to visit but it's usually close and it only opens for special occasions. Also, there are too many tramps and beggars outside and around the square, it doesn't look safe at all. But it's cool if you are religious or just want to take a look at the beautiful architecture and paintings in the inside

Worth visiting. A big beautiful cathedral. Exposed brick exterior and interior. Huge. Long aisle and high ceiling. Surrounded by parks. Two small parks at both rear sides, and a big one in front. Has a turquoise fountain facing the facade. The parks are a bit sketchy. Lots of homeless. Police are stationed at the park in front. Only felt safe due to the stationed police officers.

An spectacular church that reminds the years 1700 and 1800 when they used to begin to use bricks in the constructions and high sealings in the churches that where so important. Today the church is absolutely gorgeous and well conserved, and receives thousands of people per week. The church makes a great complement with the Bolivar park and it’s fountain. Happy to see how the city has conserved in so well standing this antique church and today cathedral.

The Memory House Museum, also known as Museo Casa de la Memoria, is a solemn yet essential destination for those seeking to understand the urban conflicts that have shaped Medellin and Colombia. I came on a weekday and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was free to get in. This is a museum that everybody who visits Medellín should come see. I thought I knew about the violence that Colombia endured in the 20th century, but I had no idea how bad it was. The museum is heavy no doubt it also helps you appreciate how the country is today. I mean, if you’re already in Colombia, then you know what an amazing country that is and how welcoming the people are. I hope that they will learn from their past and never let it repeat ever again.

A must see to learn the history of Columbias political and social struggles from the 1940’s -2016. Lots of information and interactive exhibits. One can spend two hours easily if you like to read. I highly recommend it for the history or cultural buff.
JMQZ — Google review
A haunting exhibition of the country’s political and societal challenges. Memories of past violence and resistance and hope for a better future. Decades of information regarding the conflicts told through newspaper articles, video interviews and art. Very emotional and heartbreaking few hours spent here. My heart goes out to all those affected by the dreadful violence inflicted on the people of Colombia. Free entry for the museum.
J M — Google review
Free entry. Good to know some interesting facts about Colombia, but it's pity there's barely no English explanation.
SH W — Google review
After spending a significant amount of time in Medellín over a few years, I would in my humble opinion say that this is the most important museum for any visitor to prioritise going to. You will need to have some Spanish to understand the displays, but I would definitely recommend carving out a few hours to come and humanise Medellín’s past for yourself. This is the real deal, not the romanticised bs you will learn from Netflix’s Narcos. Incredibly sensitive and informative place. Muchas gracias por existir!
Amy S — Google review
I really wanted to love this museum as I was really interested in the stories and it was free entry which is great. However, only the first floor of the museum was open when we visited. While there were some clever and moving exhibits, I think my experience would have benefited from more English translations and more of a timeline / story to follow.
Katie B — Google review
This is an incredibly moving Museum and a must-see. My only regret is that we didn't have more time to explore it fully.
Natalie G — Google review
Small museum, more or less one full floor, with three other exhibition rooms that were not available when we went. You will learn a lot about the armed conflict, violence, disappearing people, trafficking etc. There is a lot of stories and a lot of videos and information about the history of this country. It’s a must visit. Just so you know, museum closes at 530 and not at 6 which is what they list on their website. I recommend 90 minutes to 2 hours for visiting this

Ok for its nice two tone brick building built by a Flemish architect. Inside is not so much to visit but you can visit the top floor terrace to take some photos of the area. The entrance is free, if you understand Spanish, there is an explanation about the life of the famous Gabriël Uribe Uribe

Beautiful building but not much to see inside. Free entry though so worth visiting. Bring a photo id for entry (it does not have to be a passport).

A stunning architectural building in the center of Medellin and at Parque Botero. The view from the top floor patio is nice as is the tranquil interior court yard with the Astor cafe just inside. There are many rooms of art and a beautiful library. The entrance is free.

A very beautiful palace to visit to see a fast life of Uribe Uribe and his steps over the history of Colombia. Classic photos of him and others arts that you can see on the first floor. At the 4th floor you can have a splendid view of the Plaza de Botero and the Metro of Medellín. The entry is free and the only thing that they will ask you is for a document that show who are you. It can be the passport or some other ID. There’s an elevator for the wheelchairs and other handicapped people.

Atanasio Girardot Stadium in Medellin is more than just a 45,000-seat soccer venue. It's a massive complex with various sports facilities and arenas where locals gather to exercise, play sports, and enjoy outdoor activities. The stadium, inaugurated in 1953, is the third largest in Colombia and hosts games for Medellin's teams: Nacional and Medellin.
We took a get your guide trip to watch a football match which had an incredible atmosphere. The location was safe and full of fun and there was lots of great food in and around the stadium. Make sure you have some cash though as not all vendors take card.

We went to the stadium on Sunday and it was such a great experience! It was amazing to see people of all ages exercising in different parts of the stadium — from running to dancing and everything in between. The city even closes some roads for a few hours so people can use them to work out, bike, or just enjoy being active. It’s so inspiring to see a community come together to move, have fun, and do what they love! Follow @cherie.travels on Instagram to see more of my adventures!

recently had the chance to watch a football game abroad, and it was an incredible experience. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric from start to finish – you could feel the passion and energy in every chant and cheer. The fans were amazing, creating a sea of color and sound that made the match unforgettable. The game itself was thrilling, with both teams playing at a high level and keeping everyone on the edge of their seats. Overall, it was more than just a football match – it was a celebration of the sport, culture, and community. I’d highly recommend it to anyone who loves football

Plaza Minorista José María Villa is a bustling and spacious indoor marketplace located in downtown Medellin. It offers a vibrant atmosphere with various vendors selling produce, meat, seafood, and other goods. The market caters to both wholesale and direct-to-consumer customers, creating a lively hustle and bustle as people navigate through the stalls in search of the best products.
Big fun busy central market. Looks intimidating but definitely worth the visit. Fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, etc. It was the meeting place for "Exotic Fruit Tour" which was excellent.
Patrick M — Google review
Plaza Minorista José María Villa is a fascinating and authentic experience that most tourists miss! This massive wholesale fruit and food market offers an incredible glimpse into Medellín's commercial heart. You'll see an amazing variety of fresh produce and foods, mostly sold in large wholesale quantities that give you a real sense of the city's food distribution network. The key is timing - arrive early between 7-10 AM to witness the bustling trading atmosphere. The energy and fast-paced negotiations are captivating to observe. However, be aware that by 2 PM, about 90% of the stalls are closed, so plan accordingly. Don't miss the opportunity to grab lunch there - the food is excellent and authentic. Important safety tip: Do NOT walk via Avenida de Greiff to get there - we felt very uncomfortable and unsafe on that route. Instead, take the L-1 bus from Industriales for a safe and comfortable journey to the market. This small precaution makes all the difference for a worry-free visit to this unique local gem!

The selection of fruits is the same as in any good supermarket. You should only go with a tour guide and visit in the morning. The area outside feels quite sketchy and unsafe, with many homeless people and drug addicts around. We actually felt less safe there than in Bogotá. Anyone who has been there can probably relate.

Park
Sculpture Park Nutibara Hill, also known as Pueblito Paisa, is a public parkland featuring contemporary outdoor sculptures by local and international artists. Situated in the Belen district of Medellin, it offers hiking and bike trails leading up to a replica of a traditional Colombian village at the hill's summit. Visitors can explore little shops offering souvenirs, food, and drinks while enjoying stunning city views from the observation deck.
It was the nicest! I am so filled with nice things after having visited there. I like the sculptures near the bottom of the hill that seem related to the low spots where the water is. Or that concrete lean-to on top. Or the neat stacks of vegetation, or the city surrounded by music. Just fantasmic.
Kenneth M — Google review
WARNING! !!!!!! ATTEMPTED ROBBERY !!!!!! My partner and I were admiring the sculptures in the park ( it was around half 5 pm and getting dark ) but the Pueblito was busy so we didn’t feel unsafe. There was a lone man lingering attempted to sell us candy, we walked past him to realise he was following us. He approached my partner and tried to grab his bag and said in Spanish ‘ give me everything or I’ll kill you’ I understood this and said ‘what are you doing?’ I started screaming loudly which startled him and he started backing away so we ran for it. I don’t believe he had a knife or weapon or he would have flashed it. He kept suggesting he had a concealed weapon by holding under his jumper. Please be careful when exploring this park especially if it’s quieter within the trees and at dusk time!!!!!!

This was the last stop on one of our day tours of Medellin, its a cute littlerecreation of the Old Town. There's a lot of ice cream shops in souvenir shops. You have to pay to use the bathroom though. There's no real lookout area. Which was kind of disappointing since you're uphill on the mountain it would have been nice to have a viewpoint looking out at the city for a photo opportunity.
Nichole P — Google review
I recently visited Pueblito Paisa, and the experience was underwhelming. The area is quite small, with just a public square, a church, a few shops, and restaurants-enough to explore in less than an hour. A quaint path tucked at the bottom of a short staircase is lined with food stalls. As we reached the bottom, a friendly waiter greeted us with a warm smile and a menu. Drawn by his hospitality, we decided to dine there. I enjoyed a tasty tilapia meal for 35,000 pesos (~US$8.75) and spotted some chachalacas - local birds - curiously perched nearby. Please note, the restrooms charge 1,200 pesos, more if you need toilet paper. For safety, if you’re not a local, I recommend using Uber up and down the hill instead of hiking the park trails. lt's a nice stop if you have extra time, but not a must-see.
Alex P — Google review
I really enjoyed this place, is an entire cerro designed for jog, walk, picnic or any other activity you can imagine. There's tracks you can follow, very extensively. Can easily take the whole day. At the very top you can find the pueblito Paisa. Please take the time to go there. No regrets!
Mely C — Google review
It was a really nice place with a great view of the city. However, I heard it was possible in the past to see the insides of the traditional houses, but now they are closed. So you can only see outside buildings, which is not that much. I really recommend the museum

Called " El pueblito paisa," it is a replica of what a village looks like in the Antioquia region in Colombia. Come and visit you are gonna have a good time, they have little shops where you can get souvenirs, desserts, food, beer, spirits and cocktails, just go with the family and enjoy the beautiful views of the city from atop the observation deck.

Medellín offers an authentic coffee farm tour experience in Barrio La Sierra, where visitors can learn about the process of making the world-renowned Colombian coffee. The tour provides insights into the journey from seed to cup and includes delightful tastings along the way. Participants can also engage in picking coffee berries while dressed in traditional coffee-picking uniforms. This excursion is a perfect escape near the city, combining nature, culture, and history for a unique experience.
An unforgettable experience if you are in Medellin! Our tour guide Arturo has been amazing, funny and really knowledgeable. Thanks to the welcoming and hardworking family of Rosa, we learned a lot about coffee production but also about the community and the efforts to change the future of those kids for the better. We had lots of fun picking the coffee beans in their plantation and then preparing our own cup of coffee. Be ready to respectfully open your mind, listen and acknowledge the harsh reality in which some live in, such as Barrio La Sierra.

Fantastic tour - we really enjoyed learning about the history of the area, and the community that is being built. Picking coffee was a lot of fun, and meeting locals created a very authentic experience. Very well priced tour; and well timed (sometimes tours have a lot of “waiting around” time, but this was not the case). Perfect amount of time spent on the right things. I would highly recommend this tour. Arturo responded instantly to my WhatsApp to join the tour, and Melissa was a great guide!
Izaan R — Google review
My coffee tour with Arturo was absolutely unforgettable. He combines deep knowledge with a genuine passion for coffee, and it shows in every part of the experience. From walking through the farm to learning about each step of the process — planting, harvesting, roasting, and tasting — Arturo explained everything in a way that was clear, engaging, and fun. What really stood out was how personal he made the tour. He encouraged questions, shared local stories, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and involved. The tasting session at the end was incredible I left not only with a new appreciation for coffee but also with the feeling that I had shared something special with a friend. If you are in Colombia and want an authentic, insightful, and memorable coffee experience, I can’t recommend Arturo enough.

We had an exceptional experience on the Urban Coffee Tour in Barrio La Sierra. Arturo was awesome in his planning and communication. We were kept completely informed. Our tour guide Camilo was equally great. He had so much to share that was really interesting and MUCH more than just superficial info. Ask for him! The experience of learning the complete process from planting to going to the field to pick coffee to roasting was exceptional. It was also awesome to learn the history and the transformation of La Sierra and to connect with a local choice growing family. IT'S A MUST DO THAT IMMERSED US IN THE LOCAL CULTURE AND THE LOCAL PEOPLE!

Restaurant
Restaurante Mondongo's El Poblado is a popular spot in Medellin, offering traditional Colombian cuisine in a relaxed setting. The restaurant is steeped in the city's history and serves home-cooked local dishes, including the classic bandeja paisa, a platter filled with various ingredients. Visitors can also experience the deep-rooted Antioquian traditions through dishes like mondongo, a delicious stew of vegetables and meats.
This is a typical Colombian restaurant but in a slightly more upscale style. The service is fast, and the food is good. It is almost always busy but the tables turn over quick and there usually isn't a wait. The rice and beans are my favorite and the limonada natural is one of the best I have ever had. Yes, you can get this style of food on the street or from other establishments but if you are a tourist who wants to try typical food (plato del dia style) this is a great choice !
Amy N — Google review
If you are in Medellín, then you MUST make a stop at Mondongos. The food is excellent every single time, specially if you want to try authentic typical Colombian food. I always get the Típico Antioqueño, which comes with an array of main and side dishes. Best for you to see the photos and video. 5 Stars ! Will be back again and again !

All I can say is WOW!! I have been looking for a hearty and healthy meal to be my cure after long night of shots! The service was very fast, the restaurant is very clean, and the staff is very kind. Great spot to people watch as well and the food was 10/10

We were invited here by our friend who is a native of Medellín. She said it is her favorite restaurant that serves her favorite food. Mondongo’s lived up to the expectations. The food was fresh and tasty, the service was attentive and the restaurant was clean and festive. This is a great place to try local cuisine.

The best authentic Colombian spot in Medellin. The food was so tasty and it was our favourite in Medellin, atleast in terms of authentic local food! Food - 4/5 - I had the Cazuela de Lentejas and enjoyed it. Just felt like a nice beef bowl with fresh avocado and rice. Felt like a nice hope cooked meal! The plantain and orange juice were excellent as well! Atmosphere - 5/5 - it wasn’t super fancy or anything but I loved the fact that it was so authentic and cultured. Service - 5/5 - super efficient and professional, even though the restaurant was so busy. Come here for an authentic Colombian meal while in Medellin!

Mondongo’s Poblado quickly became one of my favorite spots in Medellín. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by a vibrant, bustling atmosphere that just feels welcoming. The staff are genuinely friendly, always ready with a smile and really attentive, even when the place is busy. The food? Absolutely delicious. The mondongo soup is the star, packed with flavor and comfort, and everything is served in such generous portions that you never leave hungry. The prices are fair, especially given the huge servings (perfect for sharing). Yes, it gets crowded, especially on weekends, I went on a Sunday, and you might have to wait a bit, but honestly, it’s totally worth it for the full Colombian experience. If you’re in Medellín and want a real taste of local food, this is the place to go. I can’t recommend it enough! Definitely a 5-star experience.

Colombian restaurant
Bar
Carmen is a leading restaurant in Medellin, known for its innovative Colombian cuisine served in a stylish and vibrant setting adorned with lush greenery. The restaurant's clever design seamlessly integrates the surrounding garden with the dining areas, creating a refreshing and airy ambiance. With options to dine in various spaces such as the glass conservatory, soothing patio, modern formal dining room, or upstairs salon overlooking the open kitchen, guests can enjoy an immersive culinary experience.
Carmen is not to be missed when in Medellín. The chef’s intention shines through in the composition of each dish, with ingredients and flavors coming together in complementary, balanced, and sometimes surprising ways. The plates are globally sophisticated, but their local grounding creates a unique experience. Carmen’s place on “best of” lists is well-earned — this was the best-value meal I’ve ever had. You simply don’t find this level of sophistication at this price point. The atmosphere offers options to suit different moods — a dynamic entrance level with music and energy, a quieter downstairs space for relaxed conversation, and intimate outdoor seating.

Amazing place! The food was special; they highlight ingredients that I didn’t know about. I had the tasting menu with paring; the drinks were even better. Service on point. I sat at the bar, and the bartenders were knowledgeable and had a great sense of hospitality. I would like to come back to order à la carte. I feel like there were some gems on the menu that I didn’t get the chance to try.

I had heard so many amazing things about Carmen Medellín, so I decided to give it a try. At first, there was only a waitlist available, but I showed up hoping for a last-minute table, and luckily, they had one for me! I had really high expectations after hearing great reviews, seeing it recently listed among the 50 Best Bars 2025, and having friends from ARCA Tulum recommend it and it absolutely lived up to the hype. From the moment I sat down, the service was exceptional. Sebastián kindly welcomed me and shared the cocktail menu, every drink sounded creative, original, and full of Colombian character. I went for the B. C. E. since I’m a mezcal lover, and it was outstanding. When Julián came to the table, everything just got better. He walked me through the cocktail with so much enthusiasm and that detail with the ants was such a cool twist. His vibe, kindness, and passion for what he does took the experience to another level. For food, I ordered the Pez Palma, which was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, especially the coconut rice risotto, which was a dream. If you’re in Medellín, Carmen is an absolute must. Amazing food, creative cocktails, and top-notch service. I’ll definitely be back!

Dining at Carmen was an unforgettable culinary journey. We did the chef’s tasting menu (8 or 9 incredible courses), and every single dish was a masterpiece—creative, beautifully plated, and had tons of unique flavor. Meeting Chef Carmen herself was such a special touch; her passion and artistry shine through in every bite. Our server, Javier, was phenomenal—attentive, warm, and incredibly knowledgeable about the dishes. He made the entire experience feel personal and seamless. This was hands-down one of the best meals we’ve ever had. If you’re in Medellín and love exceptional food, Carmen is an absolute must.

The entire place is stunning. We were seated next to the entrance, which wasn’t an issue and turned out to be the nicest spot inside the restaurant. We arrived for lunch with a reservation. We started with empanadas and salad, accompanied by two delicious mocktails. Everything was excellent. For the main course, I had a tender loin, and my partner chose the pork. Both dishes were bursting with flavor, generously served, and came with a side salad to share. The highlights of the lunch were the desserts. I opted for a banana split, which featured high-quality ice cream and sorbet. The best plantains were filled with caramel, making it insanely delicious and decadent. My partner had a meringue with ice cream, Pavlova style, topped with red berries. It was another hit. It’s a really good dessert. I would absolutely recommend it, and I think their dinner setting is just as nice.

Parque de El Poblado is a vibrant green square and a popular meeting spot in Medellin. It features food vendors, artisan craft stalls, and is surrounded by a lively nightlife. Additionally, it is conveniently close to Mercados del Rio, offering a variety of dining options just a short walk away. The park also provides ample lush trees, wide green spaces, and pleasant walking paths for visitors to enjoy.
Wow! I definitely recommend this walking tour to all visitors and local residents who do not know the history of the El Poblado and metro area of Medellin. Our group tour guide, Alejando is very knowledgable, profesional and personable. He made the walking tour perfect. A very modérate pace of walking, not too far with plenty of places to rest and view the beautiful parts of this historical neighborhood.

Great little area to walk through. The streets are clean and it's safe to walk about. Most weekends and week days there are little stands with vendors selling different things. Nice park overall but it’s pretty simple. The main attraction is around the park I’d say. There’s a church right next to the park, bars, restaurants, and other stores around. The Planetarium Jesus Emilio Ramirez Medellin is a top destination for science enthusiasts and those seeking to rekindle their passion for the scientific world. This museum features numerous exhibition halls with unique exhibits, interactive experiences, and a high-tech planetary dome that offers shows about the solar system. Visitors can explore fascinating science and technology exhibits, as well as learn about space and Earth science through 42 interactive experiences.
I haven't been to a planetarium since I was a kid, and how they have changed, at least Medellín. I'm giving this place a ridiculous five stars because it's reignited my curiosity in educational spaces. Honestly, I wasn't planning on visiting the planetarium during my trip, but the botanical gardens were magically closed on Tuesdays (that's a whole different story), and Parque Explora offered me a package to ticket deal. So, why not? I don't know how much the ticket costs by itself, but after visiting, I'm positive it's worth it. The ticket includes a movie in the dome theater, and after a brief explanation of my options, I chose The Unseen Universe (roughly translated). Before the movies started I had about an hour to tour the facility's other exhibits. Immediately upon entering, a group of children was making an absorbent amount of noise, which was actually comforting considering major cities in the United States barely have enough money to remain open, nevermind take a field trip to the planetarium. My first thought after seeing the children was that it was too bad there wasn't a classroom built into this place. Then I turned to my right, and BAM, classroom. Well played... I continued to circulate through the exhibits being thoroughly impressed with the practical demonstrations that had been configured to explain very complicated concepts. Even as an adult, unless you're scientifically inclined, I would suggest touring by yourself. The staff performs great demonstrations, and is well versed in the information. At this point, I was thinking this place is a solid four stars, then the staffer with the master tablet showed up. He stepped into the room and began changing the planets displayed on the projector, rotating to highlight specific areas, and I was impressed. The staff member then escorted everyone into the theater and previewed the movie for us. He explained what was going to happen, how long the experience would be, and warned everyone about their phones (which turned out to be a litmus test for iPhone users understanding their settings 😂). I was surprised that phones were allowed in the dome, but after explaining how reflective the screens are and how anyone recording needed to lower their brightness, I proceeded to watch iPhone users struggle for the next ten minutes trying to figure out how to adjust the setting. 😂😂😂 The movie was great and it played for exactly as long as promised. I thought the experience was over and wondered why there wasn't some kind of animated film that took advantage of the ability of 3D software to create 360 movies (S/O Blender). Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, he introduced a short animated film made just for the occasion. 5 Stars! The whole thing was great. The tech was great; the science was great; and the staff was great. The experience was so good that I'm going to visit planetariums in other cities. It's a must visit.
Jermain A — Google review
I went there on a Monday morning and it was just splendid ! Every part of it was extremely informative and I loved that there were many interactive activities. I could have spent the entire day there and I’m not even really into science ! The staff also made a huge difference in that unforgettable experience. I’d like to thank once again the wonderful Santiago from the Dome that had animated documentaries. I was there during the Animales Celestiales documentary and since I was the only person in the room. He really took the time to show me everything he knew and made it so accessible for me. I wish him all the best; he’ll be the best astrophysics professor ever ! This encounter was the highlight of that day and I hope to be able to come back.

My wife and I had a blast! We were so happy to explore the planetarium here in Medellin! I was nervous at first because my Spanish is just so-so, but everything was also in English! We did the dome presentation and they also had audio headphones! The entire thing was about 2-3 hours and it was super cheap! Highly suggest a great date.
Chris — Google review
We booked the combo (Parque Explora and Planetarium). Both not worth it! You have to pick one presentation in the dome but half of the topics explanations are missing on the website so you can't get informed what to pick. The presentations are only in spanish! The resolution quality is poor for todays standards. The other stuff is more "hands on" for kids, not very informative and exciting for adults.
Alex — Google review
We loved this place! The show was fantastic and they staff was super friendly and playful.
Nicole F — Google review
This planetarium is a must see for you “astronomers” like me! The exhibition is in both English and Spanish and there are some interesting things to see, a guide is also available and I would highly recommend buying a ticket for the planetarium show I saw the Maya Astronomía (Spanish only) and was interesting, and if you’re not really up on Spanish it’s still a pretty cool show. That said, it would be nice if there were subtitles.

I had an amazing time at the planetarium, and I want to express my gratitude to the employee named David, whom I met on the third floor. David's passion and enthusiasm for science and languages left a lasting impression on me. He taught me about the cycle of stars, time dilation, and black holes in a way that was easy to understand, and his willingness to help me practice and understand my Spanish was exceptional. Thanks to David, I learned so much about our universe and made significant progress in improving my Spanish skills. It was evident that David cares about his job and genuinely wants visitors to have a memorable and rewarding experience. David's dedication to his work and exceptional service deserves recognition and appreciation. I hope that the management acknowledges his outstanding contributions and rewards him accordingly. He is a true asset to the planetarium, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to have met him. Once again, thank you, David, for making my visit to the planetarium an unforgettable one. I look forward to returning and learning more from you in the future.

Cementerio Museo San Pedro, established in 1842, is not your typical cemetery. It serves as a museum and houses elaborate mausoleums of renowned Colombian politicians and artists. The cemetery's tree-shaded paths lead visitors to dramatic funerary monuments that commemorate prominent figures in Colombia's history. This unique spot offers an eerie yet beautiful experience with its marbleized history and exquisite sculptures.
This is an excellent place to learn about the funerary customs and traditions of Colombia - while respecting the privacy and dignity of grieving families because this is an active cemetery. Signage is in Spanish and English. Some of Antioquia’s most prominent figures are buried here and we learned a lot about the history of the region by goggling names as we walked around. Access to the cemetery is easy by Metro - there is a station very close by.
Ofer F — Google review
It's worth a visit if you enjoy visiting historic cemeteries as there are many interesting tombs and sculptures to see. There are a few notable Colombians buried here but you will miss them unless you have a guide or a Paisa friend to explain the history to you as there are no explanatory plaques. The rich of Medellin used to bury their loved ones here back when Centro had grand estates and before it was abandoned for El Poblado. I was impressed with the amount of old marble art work which had to be imported from Europe and then carried by mules overland in the Andes. This is still a functioning cemetery so remember to be respectful of the people grieving. Also, note that the area around the cemetery is not really the safest so avoid walking the streets around.
Michael M — Google review
A lot of history and important people is here.
Leidy A — Google review
It's a cemetery. As it's located inside a barrio, it's perfunctory (some vegetation but not park-like). Most are individual mausoleums, stacked maybe 10 high & within the 2 level, circular structure that defines the largest space. Within the circle are family & individual tombs including at least 1 prior Colombian President.
Allan Y — Google review
The only entrance to this place is on Carrera 51 across from the park. Do not stray on to the other nearby streets. The map marker is not correct and Google would not approve the change. Good to combine this with a visit to the Botanical Garden. Compared to other cemeteries in Latin America, this one is average, but attractive. Take Metro to station Universidad.

Access to the hill is free, with entry points through Carrera 65 and the San German neighborhood.
Very beautiful park. The hike to the viewpoint was brutal but it was totally worth it! The scenery is amazing and great place to view the skyline of Medellin! And there are also places to get water at before you hike. I went alone and felt pretty safe. I also went on the trail that wasn’t on the road and was uphill. I would suggest the road trail because it is probably a lot easier and safer than the trail I took. After reading the other reviews I’m glad I didn’t get robbed. I recommend you don’t hike alone because apparently a lot of people get robbed on the trail. Overall recommend this park!

Great place to walk with your dog and escape the fumes of the city. Stay on the road for safety that leads to the top where there is a grassy area to enjoy the views. Lots of watering holes and plenty to see. Ideal day out.

Lleras Park, located in the upscale residential district of El Poblado in Medellin, is a vibrant and energetic area known for its variety of restaurants serving regional cuisine, as well as its bustling nightlife with numerous bars. This trendy neighborhood is also considered the center of gay life in Medellin, offering a welcoming atmosphere for LGBT travelers.
This park is surrounded by restaurants, bars, discotheques and vendors. By the time I visited in early January, it was lighted for christmas and there were plenty of tourists around. Always felt safe walking alone at night or day. I like it has a lot of vegetation, which seems to be very common in Medellin. I could not see any public restrooms though, but most of the surrounding places would lend or let you use it for a small fee (usually 1K COP).

Lleras Park has great energy. It’s lively, full of good restaurants, bars, and a fun mix of locals and tourists. Whether you’re walking around during the day or enjoying the nightlife, there’s always something going on. The area feels safe overall, but if you’re an attractive woman, be aware some people will automatically assume you’re a sex worker. It’s just the vibe in this area sometimes, especially at night. Don’t let it stop you from enjoying it, but stay alert and keep your boundaries strong.

Parque Lleras was a nice place to visit. It has a good mix of restaurants and casual spots where you can sit down and enjoy a meal — even if you’re with kids. During the day, it feels calm enough to walk around and explore. There are plenty of food options, and the area has a lively vibe. One thing to be aware of is the number of locals approaching to sell sunglasses, belts, or offering to sing a song. At first, it might feel like a fun or funny interaction, but it often ends with them expecting a tip for their performance — so just keep that in mind. As the day turns into night, the atmosphere changes. You’ll see a lot more nightlife — bars, music, and many Latina women walking around. The lower you go down into the area, the more active and party-like it becomes with nightclubs and such. There’s one street I really liked — the one with a pizzeria called Pizzaiolo. That area felt especially safe and chill. It’s a great spot to just relax and enjoy a good pizza or other food without any hassle. All in all, Parque Lleras has a lot to offer — just be mindful of your surroundings and know what to expect.
Jerzy U — Google review
Great place for bars, restaurants, clubs and rooftops. Good eats and a lot of alcohol. Definitely not a place for kids at night, or during the day for that matter. It's only a park because of the trees and places to sit. No playgrounds here for kids.
Raymond M — Google review
Loaded with restaurants and bars. Great nightlife area. Most places close at 4am and a few food places are 24/7
Adventurous D — Google review
This was a really cool area that tourist can easily walk through. It is very lit so you can feel safe with a heavy presence of police so you can also feel more safely as you venture out in the night.

41Cable-car station Santo Domingo

The Cable-car station Santo Domingo offers a unique and must-see experience in Medellin. You can take a ride from Acevedo to Santo Domingo, enjoying breathtaking views of the city's downtown area and the colorful mural-painted roofs of hilltop houses. The journey provides insight into the city's development, with buildings transitioning from solid foundations in the valley to cinder block and tin-and-wood structures at the top.
The best cable car in the city 🚠 This is the longest cable car I’ve visited it is about 20 minutes to get to the top. At the top there’s a great park. It has a hiking trail and a small shops section with a few stands. I recommend getting the strawberries 🍓. The hike costs 30K for locals and 60k for foreigners. There are tons of signs with information about the environment and the trail itself. The hike is roughly 3-5 km. Enjoy! 😉
Nikita K — Google review
The view from the cable car is absolutely stunning — totally worth it! 🌄 There are two different prices (one for locals and one for tourists), but honestly, the scenic ride makes it worthwhile. A great way to see the city from above! Follow @cherie.travels for more views and travel adventures!
LIVE C — Google review
It was unorganized, no supervision over How many people can Ride inside the Cable cart!! People just jump in and even Stand in there very Uncomfortable!!
F I — Google review
Most tourists will not leave the station and simply carry on up to Parque Arvi. If you decide to leave the station and have a look around there's a viewpoint 5 minutes walk away but I wouldn't do much more than that. Pay attention while wandering around as there is dog mess everywhere, eyes always on you and motorcycles darting from every corner imaginable so it didn't feel like a relaxing or safe place as a outsider to be wandering around.
Chris W — Google review
This metro car was my favourite mode of transportation throughout my time in Colombia, the view of the city is spectacular and the view of the park/nature is amazing as well!
Sea — Google review
The first part of the cable car stopped working, so we took a taxi from Acevedo to Santo Domingo. We were able to do the cable car from Santo Domingo to Arvia national park. The views were so incredible beautiful, but the windows were very dirty.
Jorge G — Google review
This is one of the cable car stations that you can visit on your own and is generally safe. Take the metro in downtown and head to Acevedo Station where you can switch to the cable cable. My recommendation is to take the ride to the last station, Santo Domingo. Magnificent views of the city as you go up. It was extraordinary to see this development for one of the poorest neighborhoods in town. It was not so easy to take good pictures as between 8 to 10 people travel per car and the windows are scratched or worn-out. My advice is to go up but not exit the station to remain safe.

Cool nice view.. However, for some reason kept thinking about Roger Moore in the James bond movie Moonraker 1979.

Graffiti Tour Medellín offers a fascinating exploration of Comuna 13, showcasing the remarkable urban transformation of this once-dangerous area. As part of Medellin's innovative initiatives, the district has evolved from a troubled past plagued by guerrillas and narcos into a vibrant hub of street art. The tour provides insight into the city's less privileged side while highlighting the captivating local graffiti that adorns the streets.
Loved the area. Formally the most dangerous neighborhood in the city but very touristy now. Great views and lots of small bars to have a drink. Overall cool place to spend a few hrs exploring taking photos
Errol O — Google review
Great experience. Beautiful people who told us their histories and show us how they helped each other as a community to change their dark days. If you go. You should ask for a comuna 13 guide.
Angelica D — Google review
We really enjoyed the tour of Comuna 13 and highly recommend it to all. The transformation of this area is still ongoing and it is a brilliant insight in to the less privileged side of Medellin. The local street art is nothing short of amazing, with all the breathtaking colour you would expect from Colombia. One of my favourite parts of the tour was when we stopped to talk to some local rappers who put on a brief show for us. Although in Spanish, it was a lot of fun and everyone around seemed to get in to it as well. Definitely check this out!
Adam B — Google review
I don't know if you ever saw the movie Slumdog Millionaire but seeing the tour guides reminded me of the kids giving tours at the Taj Mahal. I suggest just going up the escalators and looking at the graffiti on your own. How much insight to graffiti is a guided tour going to give you. It is still bit of a rough area so watch out for little pick pockets that want to give hugs and try not to be there at night.
Oneida B — Google review
Had a good time went to the outermost region of Communa 13 where the most poor parts are as well. Tried some limon coffee and learned a lot About the history of the area and guerilla warfare.

We used a small local group, Proyecto Prime S.A.S, for a tour of Comuna 13. Yuli our guide was fantastic, sharing many personal stories, local history as well as explaining the meaning behind many of the artwork and artists. The community has been through so much and it is great to see it flourishing. Very inspiring, a highlight of our trip to Medellin.

When exploring Medellín, a visit to Estación Metrocable Juan XXIII is an absolute must! This impressive cable car system offers a thrilling ride that swiftly ascends and descends the city's hills, providing breathtaking views of the urban landscape. For just about 1 USD, you can enjoy both the Metro train and the Metrocable experience. The upper station is not only a fantastic viewpoint but also features delicious fruit ice cream that’s perfect for cooling off after your adventure.
If you are in Medellin you have to visit Metro Cable :-) !!! It is so fast, so quick, goes up and down with some extreme steps, the Medellin from the Metro Cable looks extremely nice. The price is the same Metro train price, so with just about 1 USD you can go by Metro and plus by Metro Cable. At the last upper station the ice cream from fruits was great ;-) !!! A must to do in Medellin !!!
