Very nice, chilled restaurant if you want something traditional and tasty for lunch. Enjoyed the pork chops with rice and fajolada, which was great. They only had one type of croquettes with beans inside a very little meat, which tasted okay but were not amazing. Would still recommend paying a visit here!

Do you know when can you eat bones? When it has been cooked in the stew for so long that its calcium breaks down and flavour comes out. This is how I know I have had one of the best stews in my life, not just the best Feijoada. The stew does not cheat - plenty of meat, sausage and beans cooked just to the right texture. The sides were perfect complements to the stew, especially the orange slices with the sauce - yes I ate it that way and saucéed the plate with it. The staff is friendly, attentive and under the classical music backdrop I was losing my mind as I had my meal. Nothing touches the soul of a sick traveller better than such a stew on a rainy day.

We ordered the Yuca, the fried chicken and the feijoada. It was a lot of food but def very expensive. The feijoada has a very strong pork taste for those that are foreign. The fried chicken was tasty.

Bar do Mineiro became our local when we were staying in Santa Teresa. The atmosphere is great, there are three levels for seating, the food is first-rate and reasonable, and their house beers and cachaca are outstanding. They are patient and understanding with those of us who have limited or non-existent Portuguese. We recommend the place to anyone.

Lovely place with AC and not at all busy around 6pm on a week night. We got a little confused reading the menu, but eventually ordered a pork and pineapple sandwich. I was worried it might be dry, but it was juicy. We also tried the filet mignon with pineapple and pate sandwich. The beef was also tender, but the liver pate didn't really add to it. You can order without. Of the two, I prefer the pork. The mojito was on the sweet side with not enough mint. The staff was patient and friendly.

What a beautiful experience! Omolokum is a restaurant and a cultural centre at the same time. A place where you can feed your soul learning about brazilian culture and your belly eating delicious homemade food. We didn't have a reservation but Bruno and his wife welcomed us in such a lovely and heartfelt way. They are incredible hosts. We had a delicious fish stew served with farofa and rice. The caipirinha were spot on with a special spicy touch. They shared so much with us and we learnt a great deal about Candomblé. The area is Gamboa and it's far from any subway station so just go by uber (which works really well in Rio by the way).

Good place to get in touch with African food, music and art. I recommend visiting it along with Instituto Pretos Novos, so you will be able to know a little bit of the essential and the strong influence of African people in Brazil. At Omolokum I had an amazing dish, with a different and a good Caipirinha while watching live Arabic music and dancing.

They have the best açaí bowls, real açaí and not that sugary stuff you get other places. You have a choice of what kind of açaí to get: Pure without the addition of ingredients With Sugar or Guarana Syrup With Organic Sugar With Coconut Sugar With honey You have a choice of Brazil nuts, roasted cashews, farinha, and granola. I ordered the açaí with coconut sugar and granola. It was so delicious and refreshing and the granola added a nice texture and crunch to it. I also ordered a Guaraná Jesus which is a pink tinted soda that is usually only found in São Luís, Brazil. And I added an Unha de Caranguejo (Fried Flaked Crab Meat) it was excellent. Very chili ambience and the staff was friendly and accommodating even if they didn’t speak English they had menus in both English and Portuguese and were helpful regardless of the language barrier. Probably the thing that I want to come back and try is #54 Açaí w/ Fried Puppy (Açaí c/ Filhote Frito). At least according to the English translation menu. They are known for their tacacá soup as well and unfortunately I didn’t get to try it, I would recommend a visit here to try real northern Brazilian cuisine. So just be aware that there are 2 restaurants, one is a casual take out counter place and the other (Gourmet) is a sit down restaurant.

Today was the first day i was feeling good enough to eat properly but wasn’t quite up for beef (they eat more beef in Brazil than any other country apparently - more than Argentina and Uruguay surprisingly) so for me it was going to be chicken. I looked up this place on Google and walked a bit to find it. On the corner is a newer place with a Flor Galeto in the name but it wasn’t it. I kept walking another 60 meters and found it and sat in the nice patio of what seems a very humble and ordinary place. Turns out this place has been here for 46 years and my waiter Regis has been working here for 21 years (since 2000) so I wanted to check out the chicken cooked in milk and see how good it really was. It said the chicken was 20 days old which is quite young. Normally the chicken you get in a restaurant is 6-8 weeks old so this chicken would be a different texture smaller and more flavorful from head to toe. And it is. It’s cooked in milk and comes a la carte. I ordered a green salad and a puré of potatoes (mashed potatoes) cause of my stomach situation and was surprised by how gigantic and fresh the greens were. They were not dressed so i added some lemons and olive oil and just scarfed down the greens and the mashed potatoes were perfect. Not mushy or lumpy and all they needed was a little salt. They have a good spicy sauce you can add to the chicken which i noticed was fresh. (They bottle oil and spices here monthly and date it so you can see) and the prices are reasonable. So i would say for a gentle non beef lunch or dinner experience in a humble yet well established well run restaurant i accomplished my mission today very well. Full marks Viva Flor.
