Museum
Specialty Museums
The Olympic Museum in Lausanne is not your typical art museum, but it offers a unique blend of sports history, technology, and art. Situated in the city that houses the International Olympic Committee, this museum showcases sculptures and interactive multimedia displays dedicated to the Olympic Games. It's a must-visit for art and culture enthusiasts. The recently refurbished museum provides an interactive and educational experience, featuring artifacts, history, Olympic torches, posters, equipment, and clothing.
We had a fantastic experience here. I never thought that this would actually be a good museum that I would enjoy seeing because I assumed it was all about the games, but watching the history and seeing the interactivity of all of the different exhibits, this was really really good well worth the money and the Front Desk guy was really nice and I had some sort of ticket to something else so I was able to get a minimal discount and this was a really nice way to spend an afternoon. I did not need to buy tickets in advance and even the lobby is gorgeous so unless you’re waiting a long time, it was fine looking around there
G V — Google review
We were here in early July and it was a nice walk along the lake to this museum perched on a small hill in the middle of a lovely park. Please visit the grounds even if you do not step inside the museum. Nice views over the lake and pleasant outdoor Olympic related art and information sprinkled through the outdoor grounds and all of this is free to access. Inside it is a well curated place with lots of information for an Olympics fan. We did it all in about 2 hours. The gift shop is where you buy the entrance tickets. Pro tip: if you do have a ticket and are there during the daytime, you do NOT need a lunch reservation to simply have a drink on their glorious outdoor terrace at the restaurant on the top floor. We just asked the host if we could sit outside for a drink and he enthusiastically said of course! What views!!! Drinks were not cheap but not more expensive than any other restaurant. So if you are curious and didn’t make a lunch reservation, please do stop by and see if you can snag a seat outside. The staff were kind and helpful.
J B — Google review
It is obviously a must visit museum if you are in the Olympic capital Lausanne. Everything is very well presented. I particularly love the video clips introducing every Olympic Games through the years, as every clip begins with important events of that year. I’d very much love to finish them all but my schedule doesn’t allow me to. All the collections are inspiring and hold collective memories of people from all over the world, some of which remind me of the days when I was little and watched on TV the Olympic Games with my father. The -1 floor is fun. View of the lake from the terrace of the restaurant is stunning. Free access for Swiss pass holders.
Yulan Z — Google review
Very nice. We were desperately looking for a clean bathroom that’s also free lol. It’s nice to see the poster of the Beijing Olympic in 2008. Unfortunately we only found the poster card but not many other souvenirs options such as fridge magnet for the Beijing Olympic.
Shijia W — Google review
Amazing experience that exceeded my expectations. The kids section was fun and permanent exhibitions were engaging and entertaining. Staff was friendly and helpful. If you're in Lausanne you need to visit Olympic Museum!
Maciej P — Google review
Free admission with the Lausanne city pass. Cool exhibition showcasing the history of the Olympics from ancient times, all the way through to 2026. Highlights include a section about art and design of the posters and iconography of the Olympics, as well as a well rounded gift shop with good items at all price ranges

This museum is located facing Lausanne (Geneva)Lake with a nice park in front and is very well connected through road and metro rail network. It is a fantastic audio visual experience indoor as well out door and must see for tourists. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here and you will cherish it.
Col I — Google review
We spent there more than 2 hours. Interactive, with plenty of interesting information, surrounded by a nice park, with a great view and even access to a beach. If you are in Lausanne, must visit. Tickets are 20 CHF per person, no needed to buy in advance.

Lausanne Cathedral, consecrated in 1275, is a stunning Gothic masterpiece that has been an important landmark in Switzerland since medieval times. The exterior of the cathedral is impressive with its ornate painted portal, belfry, and vibrant rose window. Inside, visitors can admire the grand organs, 13th-century choir stalls, and ancient stained glass windows. It also serves as a stop for pilgrims following the Camino de Santiago within Switzerland.
Lausanne Cathedral is absolutely stunning, both day and night. Sitting high in the old city, it feels massive and full of history. We went just before mass, and the atmosphere was so peaceful—plus, the people there were really friendly, which made it even better. The stained-glass windows are incredible, bursting with color when the light hits them. And at night, the whole place glows beautifully, making it just as impressive as during the day. Definitely a place that stays with you!
Maria A — Google review
I highly recommend talking a walk up through the old town to the cathedral. It's free, and a beautiful building with lots to see. You'll also get some great views of Lausanne from the front. If you want even better views you can pay a small fee and climb the bell-tower. This gives you 360 degree views of the city. Absolutely epic on a clear day. It's not for the faint-hearted or those with vertigo. Also not for those with major mobility problems. I use a walking stick due to bone spurs in my ankle and I made it OK. Just had to take it a bit slower.
Rachel B — Google review
Impressive cathedral with wonderful views of the town. A bit of a climb up steps if one takes the wrong route, but in any case well worth a visit. Large, quiet, peaceful, stained glass, statues, carvings, small and unobtrusive gift shop. Not overly commercial, and free to enter, as it should be but in some churches is not. Panoramic views of the town below.
Timothy P — Google review
One of the most impressive landmarks in Lausanne. The Gothic architecture is stunning, especially the stained glass windows that create a magical atmosphere when the sunlight shines through. Located on a hill, the cathedral also offers beautiful views of the city. Climbing the tower stairs can be a bit tiring, but the panoramic view at the top is absolutely worth it. A perfect mix of history, architecture, and scenery
Koray B — Google review
Lausanne Cathedral is a stunning masterpiece of Gothic architecture with breathtaking views over the city and Lake Geneva. The interior’s stained glass and grand organ are awe-inspiring. Climb the tower for panoramic sights—it’s worth every step. A must-visit landmark rich in history and beauty.
Ryan B — Google review
A must-visit gem in Lausanne! This Gothic cathedral, dating back to the 12th century, offers stunning architecture and panoramic views of the city, Lake Geneva, and the Alps. Climbing the belfry is worth the minimal fee for the breathtaking scenery. Inside, the grand organ is a marvel, and the nightly tradition of the watchman announcing the hour adds a unique touch. Don't miss exploring the charming old town surrounding the cathedral. Highly recommended for history and architecture enthusiasts!
Shema B — Google review
The beautiful Gothic cathedral of Lausanne is a must visit place when in this lovely Swiss city. The stained glass is magnificent, as is the architecture and the cathedral’s commanding location above the ancient city centre. Not to be missed….

Lausanne Cathedral is a stunning Gothic masterpiece. Its intricate facade and soaring interior inspire awe, while the serene ambiance invites reflection. The view from the tower is breathtaking. A must-see for its architectural beauty and historical significance.

Museums
The Collection de l'Art Brut is a museum in Lausanne that showcases avant-garde artworks created by self-taught, outsider artists. Founded by French artist Jean Dubuffet, the museum's permanent and temporary exhibits feature over 1,000 works by individuals with no formal artistic training. The collection includes diverse pieces such as naive paintings, sculptures, masks, and various media creations.
This is most probably one of the world's most interesting museums devoted to "outsider art", produced by self-taught creators, often marginalized, many living in institutions or being inmates. Their histories told beside their art works is often touching, sometimes violent. The French artist Jean Dubuffet was the initiator of this museum being a collector of this art form himself and then donating his collection to Lausanne. Just now, early 2024, the museum features a special exhibition called Visages, "faces", from which I have chosen to present some photographs for the reader to enjoy. The museum is discretely implanted facing the Lausanne congress center, somewhat off the center of town, and is surprisingly roomy. The works are beautifully curated. I find it a must to spend a couple of hours here for anyone interested in arts living in or visiting the Lausanne area.
Sebastian R — Google review
Must see for art lovers! I didn't take a lot of pics, merely enjoyed and bought a book (supports!). In the USA, I guess we call this folk art? The collection is VERY diverse. The Art Brut is now one of my favorite museums in the world.
Rick M — Google review
Great artists could come from anywhere. This is a museum that offers a very different experience. The majority of museums focus on preserving the conventional mainstream arts or a piece of noteworthy history. This one and its collections make you realize that mental or physical illness a lot of people endure or ordinary lives we live do not diminish what’s pure in (probably all of) us.
Hsiao-ching C — Google review
Very well curated museum showcasing work from artists society doesn't deem important. Free admission with the Lausanne city pass. Art is thought provoking and facilities are well managed.
L Z — Google review
Moving and touching. You could feel the emotional and mental state of the artists through their work. I absolutely suggest it if anyone finds themselves in Lausanne. It also had a 3 day pass with 2 more museums. Excellent experience.
Alex A — Google review
Really interesting visit if not a little disturbing at times 🤔
Sue S — Google review
Focuses on artists without formal artistic training, many of them from the margins of society. The resulting art is fresh and captivating. This is one of the most exciting museums that I have visited.

Perched atop a hill in Sauvabelin Park, the Sauvabelin Tower offers visitors an unforgettable experience with its 302-step spiral staircase leading to a viewing platform. This impressive 35-meter wooden tower provides panoramic vistas of Lausanne and its surroundings, including Lake Geneva, the Swiss Alps, and the Jura region. Originally built in 2003 to replace the original tower from 1904, it stands as a symbol of the turn of the millennium.
Beautifully designed and built structure. Great views of Lausanne and surrounding areas. Worth the hike up.
David — Google review
The wooden spiral staircase is impressive, and climbing to the top is absolutely worth it. Best part? It’s completely free! From the top, you get a breathtaking 360° view of Lausanne, Lake Geneva, and the Alps on a clear day. Surrounded by forest, the walk to the tower is peaceful and refreshing. A perfect spot for nature lovers, photographers, or anyone looking to enjoy the city from above. Don’t miss it!
Shema B — Google review
Beautifully constructed double helix tower blends perfectly with nature. On top you get a stunning view of the surrounding forest, Lausanne, the lake and the beautiful mountains in the distance. Must visit if you are in Lausanne!
Maisy L — Google review
A nice landmark to visit when in Lausanne. Entrance is free, and the views are amazing! We did a little hike going there but the trail path is clear enough you won’t get lost even as a tourist. How to get there is easy. We did the less walking route since it was a hot summer day when we visited. We got off on Riponne metro station and took a bus to Lac Sauvabelin and from there it’s about 5-10 mins of walking. If you don’t mind walking more, you can get off at Sallaz metro station and walk from there. It’s about 15-20mins of walking and be prepared for uphill streets/paths since it’s the norm in Lausanne. The tower was amazing to see and the steps are said to be over 150 steps one-way, so be prepared for that as well. There’s also a mini steep hill going up to the base of the tower, before the main steps. Forgot to take photos from the observation deck because I got a little scared of the height after I saw how high I went (haha!) and only remembered to take photos when I was on the last platform on my way down. :)) Stairs go in a spiral way, too, so be careful if you get dizzy easily. Since it’s a winding staircase, it’s expected to have parts of the steps to be narrower on one side vs the other. A wooden hand rail is also available on the outer side of the steps. Felt a little more scared going down due to me being a little scared of heights, but it’s a view worth seeing!
Jia V — Google review
The area was nice, but I didn't like the idea of electrified fences everywhere The tower is worth visiting with nice views.
Ehab H — Google review
Very pretty. Easy accessible by foot or bike. It’s definitely worth a visit in Lausanne city.
C C — Google review
Beautifully designed and sturdy structure with fantastic views from the top. I counted 151 steps to the top. There are a couple of benches on the top to rest.
H — Google review
I have lived in the Lausanne region for the past 30 years but this was the first time I climbed this tower, built entirely out of wood and financed by donors who can enjoy to have their names advertised on each step. There was a violent and ice cold "bise noir" blowing from NW this Sunday mid September of 2024 so I was almost alone on the viewing platform. Access and exit are via a metal gate being activated by pressing a button, something not really evident to many of the visitors. In the warm season access is possible all day till 6 p.m. There is a fantastic view over Lausanne, its suburbs and the surrounding countryside, better than photos taken in the middle of the day with its flat light.

Historic Walking Areas
Nestled in the heart of Lausanne, Place de la Palud is a charming cobbled square that beautifully captures the essence of European al fresco life. This vibrant locale is home to a stunning 16th-century fountain adorned with a statue of justice, which adds historical flair to your visit. Every hour from 9 am to 7 pm, be sure to catch the delightful cuckoo clock performance that narrates tales from the Vaud region's rich history.
Great square, used to be my favorite place to go and take a walk, drink some coffee and enjoy the city vibe. If you’re a tourist, definitely the place to come visit at least once on your visit. Also fountain in the center of the square too. Great place and would love to come and enjoy my time here again, 100% recommend.
Google G — Google review
I caught métro line 2 from the main station. 2 stops and then as I walked to the Cathedral I found this place by coincidence as it was not part of my places to visit. It was a crowded place because a lot of people were selling vegetables, cheese and many other things. (Guess Saturdays are "market days"). Very picturesque.
Alejandro M — Google review
A beautiful historic square in the heart of Lausanne! Loved the Palud Clock. It’s a bit hilly to get to, so wear comfortable shoes, but the views and experience are totally worth it.
Shema B — Google review
A charming square in the heart of Lausanne. Surrounded by historic buildings, with the Town Hall and its beautiful clock as the highlight. A lively spot where you can feel the city’s old charm, enjoy cafés, and watch the animated clock show at the hour. Definitely worth a visit when exploring the old town.
Koray B — Google review
In the heart in the Lausanne. Surrounded by old historic buildings and picturesque little streets, the square is the place to feel the tourist pulse of the city. Every round hour, little dancing dolls come out of the clock tower and create an additional experience with their performance. A good place for a glass of wine or beer in the middle of the day you choose to tour Lausanne.
Nadin V — Google review
Nothing particularly special about this old town square. Some areas are a little steep to walk. Would avoid heels given the cobblestone. Located between metro stops Lausanne-Flor and Riponne M Béjart

The building is situated in the historic centre of Lausanne and is hard to miss.
A free and nice museum in the center of Lausanne. The geology and the natural science sections are quite interesting. It's a perfect place to stop by if it rains.

A great museum in the center of Lausanne with free admission. There are permanent exhibits in archeology, history, geology, paleontology, and taxidermy/biology. The mineral room in the geology exhibit was a standout for me -- some exceptional specimens and very well displayed. Stop by and enjoy the exhibits as well as the beautiful architecture of the palace.

This museum is free on the 1st Saturday of each month. I visited and liked the variety it offers. It’s a 4 museum in 1. Each area for a different one. In overall is great to spend some time seeing good taxidermy examples from beautiful birds to, mammals. There’s a great massive white shark that will surprise you. A lot of skeletons of different categories, butterflies and so on. On the other museums on the building they offer an interesting approach on the archeological history and on the cultural aspect of Lausanne. You can see some elements from Napoleon, some heritage pieces, coins, sculptures, etc. you can see great examples of stones, cristals, and tons of specimens of the geology world. You can easily spend 2 or 3 hours roaming around.

Very interesting expositions - especially the ones with minerals and precious stones 💎 The museum have free entry until Wednesday (you’ll need to check in advance the schedule). The only minus is that everything is in French and no English translation is available

The Palais de Rumine is an important cultural and historical building in Lausanne, Switzerland. It was built in the late 19th century with a donation from the Swiss industrialist Gabriel de Rumine. This magnificent neoclassical building was designed by the famous architect Gaspard André. The Palais de Rumine is home to various cultural and scientific institutions. Its museums include the Cantonal Museum of Fine Arts, the Cantonal Museum of Archaeology and History, the Cantonal Money Museum, the Cantonal Geology Museum and part of the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School (EPFL). The exterior of the building is an important element of the city's skyline, with its striking neoclassical details and majestic facade. The interiors are remarkable for their rich history and works of art. The Palais de Rumine is not only the center of cultural life in Lausanne, but also an important contribution to Switzerland's cultural heritage.

The Rolex Learning Center, located at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), is a remarkable architectural marvel designed by the renowned Japanese firm SANAA. This expansive structure spans 20,000 square meters and offers a range of facilities including libraries, study areas, social spaces, and dining establishments. With its distinctive undulating design, it serves as a hub for learning and cultural exchange.
One of the most unique architecture for a modern university library. Wonderful infrastructure and space for study and rest.
Timothy C — Google review
Since my university days, I have wanted to visit this place and see this house-sculpture, how it flows over the terrain and creates playful corners. Even after all these years, it has not lost its elegance; rather, I miss the greenery and life in the in-between spaces. The house therefore feels like a neglected jewel.
Eliška S — Google review
Architecture lover must go. SANAA work Multifunction playful space such as library, meeting room, cafe, working space for student, and also has quiet zone! It's located as part of the university. Easy to go to the place
Mod — Google review
A perfect place to witness the triumph of architecture over function, noise over knowledge, and public funds over common sense. Impossible to study properly here.
Michael W — Google review
As it is, one of the worst buildings Ive been to. Looks good from space, but needs more work inside. The flowing structure is compromised by the random hindrances with limited access. The navigation is missing, the colours inside are rather depressively boring, and a couple of colourful chairs doesnt help. No trees around, and at no point you know, where you can enter and where you cant. Very hard to find toilet or printers. As I said, cool from the space, but once you want to use it, be ready to face unneccessarily problems uncommon for a common modernist or pre-modernist library

There is also a huge library where there are silent zones which are better to study in a calm and serious atmosphere. Some sofas are available and some epfl printers.

Château St-Maire is a historic castle in Lausanne, dating back to the early 1400s. Originally the residence of Lausanne's bishops, it has served as a government building for over 200 years and is currently the seat of the Canton of Vaud's government. Located near Cathedrale de Lausanne, it features turreted medieval architecture and is surrounded by charming cafes and eateries.
Château Saint-Maire is a castle located at the northern end of the hill in the City of Lausanne. At the end of the 14th century , under the episcopate of Guy de Prangins , the Bishopric had become too small and no longer provided the necessary security for the bishops. May 5, 1396, Bishop Guillaume de Menthonay obtained from the Pope the right to move the Saint-Maire convent and to build on its site a fortified castle. When it was built, it overlooked the south of the city and controlled the access road via Mont , to the north. The castle owes its name to Marius of Avenches , a bishop also called Saint Maire. Marius is considered to be the bishop who transferred the bishopric, the year 581 in this safe place, when the pressure from the Germanic peoples coming from the north became increasingly significant .

A historic landmark that’s probably better seen from a distance but not actually worth going to as it’s closed to public and like many pointed out you only have the view from the parking lot. The lookout view is so-so and the tower further north is actually better. Overall, there are other places (e.g., the Olympics Museum) that would be a far better use of your time especially for a day trip.

Pinte Besson is a historic bistro in Lausanne, offering regional and seasonal dishes within its preserved space adorned with wood and stained glass. In addition to this charming spot, the city boasts a variety of dining options ranging from traditional old Vaudois bistros like Cafe Romand and Cafe de l'Europe to modernized bistros such as cafes de Grancy and Bruxelles.
Tonight we discovered a quaint, neighborhood, locals restaurant in Lausanne that was established in 1780. Flowing with charm and personality, and full of people enjoying themselves. We had a wonderful farm to table salad, the best cheese fondue ever, and a side of hashbrowns that were to die for (the side of hashbrowns is not on the menu, but they will do it). The wines were surprisingly good. I had the Merlot Ticino and my wife had a glass, actually several glasses, of Prosecco. A real hidden gem!
Ed E — Google review
We ordered the fondue and, in our opinion, it was terrible. First of all, for €55 for two people, we were served bread and a plate of cheese. And nothing else. No cold cuts, no potatoes, nothing. Just bread and cheese. Maybe that's normal for Switzerland, but we were expecting more. Secondly, the fondue was extremely bitter — we guess too much wine was used. We left half of it uneaten because we simply didn’t enjoy it. The place itself is nice, and the staff is friendly. But the fondue is a 1/10. I can't recommend it.
Vycheslav R — Google review
My husband and I were so excited to eat at Pinte Besson considering how historical this establishment is! We made reservations just to be safe. The service was wonderful! The fondue was delicious (we did the tasting for two that also came with dry meats and dessert and it was plenty of food). Would highly recommend a meal here during your stay in Lausanne!
Nicole S — Google review
One of the historical cafe of Lausanne with old fashioned but well maintained interior. It was interesting to climb to the second floor on the very narrow stairs :) We had the menu fondue tradition for 2, it's a complete set with dried meat platter and fondue moitié moitié with bread. The portion was not too big but it was enough when closed with the dessert included in the menu (meringues with double crème). It's a nice restaurant to eat typical Swiss food (they also have a nice papet Vaudois).

Best place to have authentic food, at decent prices. Ent with the fondue this time. Had the deer stew last time. Always my place each time I’m back in Lausanne.

I had a fondue and a lovely board of cold cuts. I enjoyed everything but unfortunately it was too much for me so I couldn't eat the dessert which was included in the menu. The waitress was kind enough to take my glass of wine off the bill since I didn't get the dessert.

Since 2021, I have not missed any of the exhibitions. The villa is beautiful itself, and in surrounding you can enjoy a garden with a Lausanne and lake view. I give one star less, because up to today I do not understand, why the description of the exhibition are only in French. There is plenty of space on the walls to add English or at least German. I usually help myself with a translator, but it does not work in the basement floor due to absence of mobile signal. There is a WiFi, but for password you have to go back to the cash desk, so my suggestion is to connect to WiFi when you buy tickets. The shop is usually full of great books relevant to the exhibitions, again English or German versions are very rare. Staff is super friendly. There are views from the villa to the lake, in one room you may sit and play chess. Same as there is a place where you can sit down with your children. The exhibition space is large, do not underestimate time for basement level, it is the biggest :).

Yesterday, my friend and I visited a beautiful exhibition of Polish painters. We both really enjoyed it. The Hermitage itself has a stunning setting – the building, the garden with views of the mountains and Lausanne Cathedral all create a lovely atmosphere. We went on a Thursday for the evening opening (6-9 PM), which we found both convenient and reasonably priced – 11 CHF per adult. On regular days, the museum closes at 6 PM, which isn’t ideal for people who work during the day. However, on other days (except Thursday), the entrance fee is 22 CHF, which I find too expensive – especially compared to other art galleries in Switzerland. The restaurant next to the museum is also quite overpriced.

I visited the Hermitage Foundation, Lausanne with my young daughter from Bengaluru, India in 2019. It is a small museum but with an excellent exposition. Tickets include audio as well. Very calm area which enhances the viewing experience. There is a book shop and cafe. You will need to deposit your bags in lockers at the entrance before entering the museum. We had a great time!
Bohg9999 — Google review
This is one of our local favorite museums, located north of the Lausanne cathedral and with a beautiful view over Lake Geneva and the alps. This spring of 2023 the Hermitage foundation presents an exhibition featuring works by the Belgian (Flemish) painter Léon Spilliaert, who had his most productive period during the first two decades of the 20th century. His paintings are mainly produced on paper and present a mixture of different techniques. The museum shop is good. The only negative side is the rather important distance between the museum and parking facilities, like often in Lausanne including a rather steep uphill and downhill walk.

The Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts, known as MUDAC, is a must-visit for anyone passionate about modern art and design. Nestled within the vibrant arts district of Plateforme 10 in Lausanne, this museum showcases an impressive array of contemporary designs, art crafts, and fine arts. The exhibits frequently challenge traditional boundaries between art and design, offering visitors intellectually engaging experiences that provoke thought.
Mudac is an absolute must go! Also part of the new arts district Plateforme 10, I got the ticket that gave me entry to all 3 museums (Photo Elysee, MCBA & Mudac). They are having a promotion whereby instead of 25CHF for one entry to each of the 3 museums within the period of 3 months, it’s now 19CHF. I really enjoyed the Surrealism exhibition! There was even an exhibition book at the entrance which provided insights on the pieces. I went in on a weekday and there was only a handful of people so it pretty much felt like I had the museum to myself! It’s definitely worth checking out this lovely museum. And if you’ve got the time, hop on over to Photo Elysee which is just downstairs.

Architecturally exciting, the MUDAC (Museum of Contemporary Design and Applied Arts) features several special exhibitions on science and downstairs of photography. We saw information on the latest developments in solar power and an exhibit on the US artist Tyler Mitchell. The cafe is excellent, featuring beers from the best Swiss brewery: Brasserie BFM from Saignelégier.

I was excited to visit, but the art was underwhelming. The building itself is an architectural gem, yet the exhibitions aren’t worth the price or the trip. Staff were friendly, but overall the experience was disappointing.

It was amazing to see Chair exposition. The story of the museum is also an interesting one. It used to be a part of the central station where they stored trains. So lovely that they redid a whole complex of museums. Remember, school visits are for free. It's a great thing they appreciate education and enable it for everyone.

Museum of contemporary "art". The place is terrible. No information in English, staff wasn't nice. The lady at reception wanted to sell us tickets for 3 museums, even though we had only an hour to spend. As well we were not asked about if we are under 26yo or students. Guy from France/Switzerland was asked that just after we paid. So we paid full price, even though we could get a discount, as foreigners we were almost forced to get tickets for three museums, even though we had an hour. In the entrance we were asked to throw away our water, and a minute after, we saw the same man who asked for that, drinking water at the exhibition. Really? What is this place. Art was bad, not much in English, staff definitely not nice for foreigners from other countries. Not worth visiting and wasting money. As a picture you can see how we felt during the exhibition.
O O — Google review
This museum for design and contemporary art was previously located in a small building with an endless number of floors in La Cité, facing the cathedral. It has now lost its soul. Like its neighbors on Platform 10, the main exhibition relates to trains, railway stations, railroads and passengers and their luggage. This section is really interesting and well curated. The contemporary and applied art section that you will find if you search deep into one of the corners of the first floor is a nothingburger although you might possibly enjoy an Icelander walking in his local river while speaking his patois... Now recently in the spring of 2023 there are two most interesting exhibits, one features design in Beirut, Lebanon over time till today and the other is a dialogue between an octopus and and a citrus press, a kind of interesting title. Needless to say, go visit the design museum before these exhibitions are over!

I work near this park and it’s just lovely. Really peaceful and filled with gorgeous flowers. It’s the nearest thing Lausanne has to an English Garden. It’s the perfect spot to print a blanket, book, and a lunch and just lay in the sunshine. You’ll also find some fountains, ponds and some cheeky parrots and chickens. Utterly lovely. The Roman Museum Lausanne-Vidy, established in 1934, is located in Vidy, west of Ouchy along the lakeshore. It showcases the ancient archaeological artifacts and structural remains from the Roman era. The museum provides insights into the history of Lousonna, an important trading colony during Roman times. Visitors can explore fragments of a Roman domus with well-preserved 'affresco' colors and a gallery displaying daily life artifacts.
🏛️The experience of visiting the Roman museum of Lausanne in Vidy was very interesting because it was built inside a Roman domus. In fact, you can see fragments of the Domus 🏛️, with small "affresco" where the colors have been maintained over time. 🪜Upstairs there is the gallery with all the finds of daily life found and exhibited. 📜🗞️ There are posters affixed to the walls that tell the story of the time. 💲The cost of the ticket has a low average price and there are discounts for students $. 🆓 It is also possible once a month to visit the museum for free. 🙋🙋‍♀️The museum offers a guide upon request. 🤩I recommend it to anyone here who is passionate about Roman history.
Jada م — Google review
The experience was a bit short. I feel that some the museum was closed off for renovations when I went (4th March 2025). It was empty, no wait of any kind. Perks and cons of travelling in the off season I suppose. The exhibits were standard Roman artifacts and I don't declare this a disappointing experience as the cost was covered in the pass I bought from a different museum earlier. The Roman town ruins nearby are for free.
Timothy L — Google review
Very interesting museum, with an easily understandable introduction to Lausanne's early iteration. The temporary exhibitions are always original and worth the visit. They also have conferences and themed guided tours. Check if any digs are currently being worked on: Lousonnae used to be a large town many secrets are still to be discovered

So lovely to know Roman history of Lausanne. The museum has a beautiful exposition and artefacts are nicely preserved and have a great storyline and a lovely future museum.
Petra D — Google review
Definitely for the history buff more than the casual visitor. But, as a history buff, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a small museum but covers an interesting period of world history that I didn't know much about: Gallo-Roman. A well-executed interactive exhibit projected on the wall was a great start to the exhibit. Many interesting artifacts. For English speakers they provide a booklet that translates the interpretive materials for each section. However, my only complaint, is that the plaques for individual artifacts were only in French. The camera feature of Google Translate was an adequate solution for me except for a few objects too far back in the case for my camera to see. Tip: there is a single ticket for this and 2 other museums good for 3 days..worth it!

A small, well organized museum that starts at the beginning of life on Earth. I have studied timelines before but the innovative display here was exciting and powerful. The education about how layers of debris are excavated and studied set the stage for the actual artifacts inside, then you walk around the actual Roman ruins. You can touch them and stand in the quiet garden imagining the lives of the many generations who have been exactly there before you.

Visited the photography museum....most notable for its lack of ..... photographs. Not worth the time or money...the best bit, the searchable archives (see photos) could be done online and it's not like you could stand there all day looking at photos on TV screens, I mean why would you want to) Response to owner: Thank you for your reply and I am sure many other people will review fondly on the minimalist current exhibition. I appreciate that there are different tastes and levels of appreciation and perhaps regret the flippant tone of my review. I do hope that this feedback is considered for future exhibitions though. With best wishes.

I visited the museum on the first Saturday of the month, when Switzerland offers free entry to several museums. At Elysee, you get an ecosystem to embrace your photography skills. You get an opportunity to be creative, use props, backdrop to get a picture clicked. This does not stop here, you also get to edit the photos and get as many copies as you want for free!! Other than this, there are other art masterpieces. I have enclosed the picture of the art that I liked the most. It's based on reflection phenomena!! Location: It's very near to the Lausanne Gare station and the Cantonal museum of fine arts. Hence, you can cover both the museums together.

This theatre is really nice. The location is stunning, in a parc on the lake. The salles are not particularly big, but the visibility is great from almost all seats. There is also a nice bar/restaurant with plenty of seats, especially if the weather is nice outside and they put tables and chairs: it's nice to have some food before of after a show with a beautiful view of the lake

One the largest théâtre in lausanne, 3 or 4 shows à day. Mostly modern shows but sometimes classicisme as well. Has à partnership with the other public théâtre in Lausanne. Check it out.

(Translated by Google) I highly recommend the current exhibition on Jean-Claude Hesselbarth (until November 9, 2025). I was particularly enthusiastic about the immersive section. In audio clips, the artist talks about how painting with the intense colors helped him brighten his mood—the colors were, so to speak, his vitamins. And we immerse ourselves in the diversity of the artist's works, experiencing a sense of refreshment and revitalization. A truly successful exhibition!

The exhibits were okay, most of the signs were in French. I particularly liked the fact that part of the museum is situated in an old house, really makes me think of the perspective of the people who's lived there hundreds of years ago.
