Bridge
Sights & Landmarks
The Chapel Bridge, also known as Kapellbrucke, is a 14th-century wooden bridge in Lucerne that is considered one of the oldest covered wooden bridges in Europe. It is a significant part of the city's medieval fortifications and was named after St. Peter's Chapel nearby. The bridge crosses the River Reuss and features a roof adorned with 17th-century paintings depicting local history.
Walking across the Chapel Bridge after dark is just an absolutely core Lucerne experience. During the day it's beautiful, but at night, it's pure magic. You stand in the middle of this ancient wooden bridge, and the view from it is just incredible. The old buildings along the riverfront, like the Am-Rhyn-Haus with its clock tower, are all lit up, and their lights shimmer and reflect on the water. It’s so quiet and peaceful. I must have taken a dozen photos just like these, trying to capture how beautiful it was. If you're looking for a romantic spot or just a place to have a quiet moment, this is it. An absolute must-do.
Chieh-Sheng C — Google review
We had a wonderful experience visiting the Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke) in Lucerne. It was a beautiful evening, and the entire setting felt almost magical. The iconic wooden bridge, with its charming roof and historic paintings, reflected perfectly in the calm waters of the Reuss River—making it one of the most picturesque spots we’ve seen in Switzerland. What made the experience even more special was the atmosphere around the bridge. As we walked through, the gentle lighting and the flower decorations along the bridge added to the charm. Right nearby, the Old Town was buzzing with life. The streets were lively with cafés, restaurants, and little shops, making it a joy to stroll through. The blend of history, culture, and energy gave the whole area a very warm and welcoming vibe. Walking across the bridge and then meandering through the cobblestone streets of Old Town felt like stepping into a postcard. The combination of medieval architecture, colorful buildings, and the vibrant evening atmosphere made the entire experience unforgettable. If you are in Lucerne, visiting Chapel Bridge is absolutely a must-do, especially in the evening when the city lights and reflections on the river create such a breathtaking scene. It’s not just a landmark—it’s a place that captures the heart and soul of Lucerne.
Gaurav S — Google review
Iconic structure spanning the river Reuss in Lucerne, it's Europe's oldest covered wooden bridge. I was expecting a lot more interior paintings depicting Swiss history then there actually was. Very crowded.
FLnurseER1 — Google review
Chapel Bridge lives up to the hype being the most iconic outdoor attraction in Lucerne. Pictures of the bridge from the river shore streets are more scenic than photos taken from the bridge itself. Given that fire of 1993 destroyed at least two thirds of the bridge, don’t expect too much from exposed paintings. Fortunately, Water Tower was spared and bridge was rebuilt and reopened in 8 months carefully reconstructed to preserve historic details.
Mike Z — Google review
Lucerne is beautiful city. The Chapel Bridge is one of the iconic attractions of the city. Very beautiful bridge with nice view of the river and the surrounding.
Nissim C — Google review
Iconic landmark of Lucerne. Part of the bridge was burned down in the past and at certain points of the now rebuilt bridge, you can still see the black burnt marks on the wood pillars. Keep your eyes up also as there are some murals at the triangle top also.
SL W — Google review
The Chapel Bridge is an absolute gem in the heart of Lucerne. This historic wooden bridge, adorned with beautiful flower boxes, offers stunning views of the Reuss River and the charming old town. Walking across feels like stepping back in time, especially with the unique triangular paintings under the roof that tell stories from Lucerne’s past. It’s not just a bridge—it’s an experience that combines history, architecture, and breathtaking scenery.
YippieYaYa — Google review
It is a very nice, special place, always beautiful the flowers at the bridge. Mass tourism, a photogenic square, easily accessible from the train station and ship station.

The Lion Monument in Lucerne, Switzerland is a poignant and enduring tourist attraction. It was created to honor the Swiss mercenaries who lost their lives defending the Tuileries Palace during an attack in 1792. The monument features a sculpture of a dying lion impaled by a spear, carved into natural sandstone rock above a pond. The names of the fallen officers and soldiers are engraved nearby, adding to the melancholic atmosphere of the setting.
We wandered through the vibrant city center and stumbled upon a hidden gem. It was a remarkable spot to explore and offered a stunning backdrop for photos in the heart of Luzern. Though it was a bit bustling, we seized the moment and captured a beautiful picture.
Mrs T — Google review
Magnificent though-provoking monument to Swiss guards who died defending French king at the revolution times, emphasizing sacrifice by the people who fulfilled their professional duties to the end at the cost of their lives. It’s a small public park easily accessible by 10 mins walk from Lucerne lake shore. There are restrooms onsite, also expect the park to be crowded almost at any time of the day.
Mike Z — Google review
As a tourist attraction, the Lion Monument is relatively small in scale, yet it draws a large number of visitors. The sculpture of the dying lion is strikingly lifelike, full of emotion and quiet power. In front of the carving lies a small reflecting pool, where a few lonely fallen leaves float on the water, adding to the somber mood of the place. Overall, the visit takes about 5–10 minutes. No tickets required.
Sweet K — Google review
Beautiful historical landmark. Worthwhile understanding the history either by guided tour or by reading up in the internet to appreciate it more. The outer 'pig' sculpture is interesting by the unhappy master stone maison who was denied the extra payment he requested.
Cliff C — Google review
Visited the Lion Monument in Luzern and it really hits different when you see it in person. It’s quiet, calm, and has this emotional, respectful atmosphere to it. The carving is huge and so detailed, and the whole place feels very peaceful. It’s not something you rush through. You just kind of stand there for a bit and take it in. Definitely worth stopping by if you’re in Luzern
Joe F — Google review
Touching sculpture on the sacrifice of Swiss guards for the last French king - also this king was eventually executed. The place feels tranquil despite having a relatively large number of tourists. I have seen this monument on various social media, but did not expect it to be so central and near to other tourist attractions.
Clifton P — Google review
Absolutely amazing statue and storey of the fallen people. The Roman carving sits over 3m above the ground level, depicting and injured lion killed by a spear in his side-back. Quite moving emotionally the lion looks vulnerable & defeated, despite his pecking order in the jungle. We were told Switzerland was made up of Germans, Italians & French people, this country is the No. 1 on my list of most beautiful countries with 3 major cultural influences makes it well set out.
G C — Google review
Shaded area with a calm pond and beautifully carved sculpture. There are historical and interpretive signs all around, plus a few benches. Additionally, we found the most technologically-advanced, free public restrooms we'd ever seen here - I seriously almost took a photo of the inside of it!

The Glacier Garden of Lucerne is a captivating natural and geological museum that offers a glimpse into the Ice Age history of the region. Visitors can explore glacial potholes, fossils, minerals, and rocks while also experiencing a mirror maze, relief map of Switzerland, and multimedia show. The museum's location near the iconic Lion Monument makes it easily accessible for tourists. Additionally, nearby attractions such as the Bourbaki Panorama and Richard Wagner Museum provide further opportunities to delve into local history and culture.
Incredibile place! In the middle of the city, you can see a place dedicated to the mountains, with an alpine walk, a replica of the inside of a glacier, an alpine chalet, some potholes, a small museum, a mirror labyrinth and a restaurant. Definitley to go and visit in Lucerne!
Giasone B — Google review
Very cool! There’s a lot to see and do, from museum to interactive journey through a big rock to an amazing little mirror maze! Something enjoyable for everyone, definitely! I would recommend choosing s day with good weather, you might be able to see the mountains from the tower they have!
Franca — Google review
Nice walk from the station (10 minutes). Intesting description of the geology of the area. It is outdoors but the mail area is covered. The labyrinth which is a mirror maze was the most popular part with the children. As there is only one entrance and exit safer to let them wonder. The room with information on chalets was interesting and kids enjoyed making and drawing chalets. The walk underground is just lit enough to keep it safe but dark enough to add sone mystery and make the light shows more effective. There is a cafe on the site with prices typical for the area. We are a impatient family and spent around 2 hours without a visit to the cafe.

It is more than expected. Cave is big experience. Specially Cosmo Phone which repeats your voice in its own special voice in just few seconds. This cave let you walk to go to top with good sight seeing from where you can come via lift also. There is Wc and drinks etc shop is also inside. Mirror maze is also very good. Ticket is 22 Chf and free with Swiss pass. It is closed in evening so be careful to be in time. Film show every 20 minutes is must watch for authentic information. It is adjacent to Lion Monument.

Nice place to visit. Be sure to bring your visitor/tourist discount card from the hotel to get a discount on admission. There is a really cool tree house in here that you must climb up to get the awesome view of the city.

Nice place to understand glacier history and formation in Switzerland. The caves are fascinating with many practical models to understand glacier formation and movement. There is also an exciting mirror maze which is total fun for adults and kids. It also has a watch tower which you can climb and see a panoramic view of Lucerne city. Entry to Glacier Garden is free with Swiss Travel Pass.

The Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne is an engaging and interactive museum showcasing the evolution of transportation and mobility. Visitors can explore various exhibits, including those dedicated to railways, roads, aviation, space, navigation, and communication. Additionally, the museum features a planetarium and an IMAX cinema. Nestled near the lake, it offers a range of attractions such as the chocolate adventure and Swissarena. The museum's diverse offerings make it an ideal destination for travelers interested in transport history and technology.
A magnificent gem of a museum that gets into the entire history of Swiss transportation, which is more unique from other places because of its terrain. That said, you’re still going to see trains and planes and automobiles in a very unique setting. This is a can’t miss if you’re in the area.
David S — Google review
A great moment for all the family. Beyond the classic themes, you can also enjoy an imax theatre and a planetarium (supplement tickets 🎟) Several restaurants and cafeteria are available on the site. Easy access by bus 🚌 or boat.
Barefoot C — Google review
Wow one of the most interactive museums! Great experience for half a day. Great variety and teach perspective in different means of transport! We will be back to visit the planetarium too!
Sofia K — Google review
Great facilities to visit and explore the world of transportation in Switzerland: trains, boats, cars, planes and rockets. Fabulous option for children and adults. For quiet visits, avoid the weekends or the school vacation periods. I highly recommend the building devoted to boats, as it is highly maintained. However, we recently found out staff is sometimes not present on exhibitions and it is difficult to get support or assistance in all areas of the museum.
Jaime R — Google review
Wonderful place..so much to see! The museum is huge with indoor and outdoor areas! I loved the section on space travel but it's not very large in comparison some of the other parts. Being able to walk into an old plane was fun and a cube you could enter to feel the effects on gravity as it rotates. The Planetarium was a highlight with several shows a day but you have to pay for these separately as they are not included in the entrance to the museum..I paid for one 45 min show and it was worth it just to see the stars and planets on such a large screen above you..you really felt like you were travelling in space..but I guess it also depends on the show you choose and could get expensive if you want to see several shows there.
Ingrid A — Google review
I don't think it was a bad museum, but compared to a lot of the other transport museums I'd visited I didn't enjoy this. Especially considering the price. I don't think it had enough to offer and you couldn't go inside almost all of the planes/trains. It also didn't have enough locker space. I'd say kids seem to really enjoy it though, and the space section was interesting, albeit small.
Tara E — Google review
One of the best museums I have ever visited. Covers all areas of space, air, land and sea transportation plus energy sources and smart house eco systems. Many interactive games for kids to play, learn and stay focused.. Very helpful, polite and always available to support staff... A must visit place

Nestled in the heart of Lucerne, the Bourbaki Panorama is a captivating museum that offers an extraordinary glimpse into a significant chapter of Swiss history. This unique cylindrical structure houses an impressive painting by Edouard Castres, completed in 1881, which vividly illustrates the retreat of nearly 90,000 French soldiers seeking refuge after their defeat in the Franco-Prussian War.
Fantastic panorama! Great to see that this one is well maintained. Very interesting story to the painting as well. Must see if you are in Luzern.
Remco — Google review
I'm a history girl and I really loved getting some insight into a topic I knew nothing about before. Nice setup and very well made, definitely worth checking out! I was completely alone up in the big panorama, it made the atmosphere feel even heavier!
Franca — Google review
The building has coffee, shops, movies theatre, but is especially well known for the historical panorama on the upper floor. Very popular at the end of the 19th century, it is often described as the ancestor of the movies theatre. Definitely worth the visit. Make sure to read excellent display to understand the overall context.
Barefoot C — Google review
Expensive, but they really try to milk the history and cultural significance of this painting and battle. The small museum in the level before the painting is well-designed, and has additional articles in QR codes.
Sarah M — Google review
A super unique experience that has some art and some history. You take a journey up to the first floor, where you watch a short documentary recounting the reason why the panorama was created and how they built it. Upstairs is an immersive experience of the actual panorama. I would allow for about 20 minutes for the entire experience. Get the Lucerne Museum, Swiss Pass that complements nicely with the Picasso Museum in the Swiss transportation museum, unless you want to pay Fr.12 per person. There’s a café at the bottom, but it’s quite expensive, five francs for a water.
Brent P — Google review
Very interesting story and Panorama. Take your time there to learn the story and grasp the so many details in this work of art.
Gadi E — Google review
Bourbaki Panorama offers a fascinating glimpse into Swiss history through its impressive 360 degree artwork. It’s an interesting cultural stop and can be an optional addition to your Switzerland/Lucern itinerary if you enjoy history and art and have extra time.
Sundeep G — Google review
Fantastic work of art encompassing human solidarity and care for others. If you come to Luzern you must see this. Really makes you think of the consequences of war from a different angle - the defeated army. The mixture of the panoramic painting, real 3D additions and other exhibits are amazing in their effect. Looking after this resource and making it available to different generations is such an important labour. Also my thanks in particular to Nadia at reception, such a welcoming and kind person, the ideal guardian and guide for such an important work. The building also houses a lot more services for the community and visitors such as a cafe and cinema.

The Richard Wagner Museum in Lucerne is located in a 15th-century country home where the renowned composer once lived. Visitors to Lucerne can plan their trip around exploring this museum, which offers a glimpse into the life and work of Richard Wagner. The museum showcases rare musical instruments, including a portable organ, and provides insight into the composer's exile in the Swiss city's Tribschen district.
Great museum, you can take a walk from the city center, not so far away. Great view, enjoy and get some rest, there is a small coffee restaurant.

Beautiful and inspiring place, especially if you like art/music, Wagner's life and everything related to his work and biography. It’s also worth taking a walk around it, having a coffee at the kiosk outside and enjoying the view.
Parchita — Google review
45 minutes sufficient to see this museum which was home to Richard Wagner, unless one stars listening to his music, for which facility exists. Serene atmosphere with a garden nearby. Visitors may note that there are 2 sign boards near the lane from main road pointing to Wagner Museum. One looks misleading, pointing to a different direction. If I am right Museum may align correctly the signboards

Hofkirche St. Leodegar, also known as the Church of St. Leodergar, is a monumental 17th-century church located in the Old Town area. It features twin Gothic bell towers and a vaulted white stone interior. The church has a rich history dating back to the 8th century when it was originally a Benedictine monastery.
Beautiful, quiet church right near the water. Several interesting tombstones and graves line the perimter wall. A serene spot amidst the bustling city.
Brian B — Google review
We stumbled upon this church while walking around after dinner, and wow, what a vibe. The way it's lit up at night is just stunning, making its two huge spires look so dramatic against the sky. The best part is the massive staircase leading up to it. It’s the perfect spot to just sit down, hang out, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. We were lucky enough to be there when the church bells started ringing, and the sound echoing through the quiet night was just incredible. A total goosebumps moment! If you get the chance, definitely visit after dark. It’s a completely different and more magical experience than seeing it during the day.
Chieh-Sheng C — Google review
Beautiful 17th century Church in the heart of Lucerne. They even had an adoration chapel that was open when we visited.
George S — Google review
This place was really quiet, hardly any people around. There’s a paid parking lot right next to the church, and with EasyPark it was super easy to park. The churchyard felt very solemn — I’d never been to a traditional European church before, and only then did I realize people used to have cemeteries right beside them. The church itself is stunning, full of medieval grandeur. I didn’t go inside since I’m not too familiar with the customs, but even just seeing it from outside was impressive. For a church that’s been standing since the Middle Ages, it’s definitely worth a visit.

This Roman Catholic Church of St. Leodegar in the city of Lucerne, Switzerland was built and completed in 1639 (the basilica was burnt in 1633). It was one of the largest rich in art history churches of Germany in the late renaissance period.

Review: A Breathtaking Experience Wow! As someone who isn't a Christian and doesn't typically seek out church visits, I was truly blown away by this place. From the moment I approached, the intricate entrance carvings and the stunning tower left me in awe. The grandeur of the church's walls, along with the breathtaking ceiling paintings and detailed carvings, is simply remarkable. The level of artistry in the gold-worked sculptures is mind-blowing. Each piece is a testament to the incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail that has gone into creating this space. While the tranquility you'd expect from a church was certainly present, there was an added layer of depth due to the church's rich history. The atmosphere felt almost sacred, as if you could sense a divine presence watching over you. I can't quite put it into words, but the experience was profoundly moving. If I were Catholic, I would love to pray here. It left a lasting impression on me, and I highly recommend visiting, regardless of your faith. This place is a true gem that offers beauty and serenity in abundance.

Located in a grand neoclassical building at the heart of Lucerne, Sammlung Rosengart is a must-visit for art enthusiasts. The collection, amassed by Swiss art dealer Angela Rosengart and close friend of Picasso, features an impressive array of 19th and 20th-century artworks.
What a gem! I am so very happy to have stayed in a hotel nearby and was able to visit this museum, I loved every inch of it! I try to visit museums in places that I travel to, whenever possible, and in reading about this museum, I learned that they have many pieces by Picasso, which I was very interested in seeing, in addition to other artists. There are also many candid photographs of Picasso, which were very interesting to see, in addition to a historic meeting room with movie you can watch to learn about this history behind the museum. I explored from top floor (3), to basement, taking in each artist's work. I spent about 3+ hours there. There is an elevator if needed. I spent about $30 CAD for the entrance fee. Lucia at the entrance desk was wonderful to chat with, she was extremely helpful and assisted me with some purchases of prints and a tube to keep them safe in. Thank you for making my visit even more enjoyable! I highly recommend the visit, and it's in a great neighborhood to shop and dine too.

One of the world's greatest private art collections. I was blown away! Largest Picasso collection in the world. Well over 100, and hundreds of other amazing pieces. Cezanne, Renoir, Monet, Seurat. Spectacular amd well worth your time and money.
Matthew M — Google review
What a great art museum. It’s a ten minute walk from the train station. Small lockers at no cost to store a backpack. She let me leave my larger carry-on in a corner of the lobby where she could keep an eye on it. The standard admission is 18 Swiss Francs.
Anthony R — Google review
A worthy collection and a very interesting history of the creation of the museum. In the museum you can watch a documentary about it. The ticket costs 20 francs. Unfortunately, there is no audio guide. There is a map with a QR code, but the text is written in very small print, it is inconvenient to read from a phone.

The collection was very inspiring and well worth a visit! The atmosphere was peaceful and the flow around the gallery was good. At the desk, they helped me with an English translation of the scripts.

An astonishing and magnificent collection of 20th century art amassed by art dealer Siegfried Rosengart and his daughter. They eventually made their own collection a gift to the city of Lucerne. Housed in a 1930s bank building, the collection is one of the finest private collections on display anywhere in Europe. Picasso and Klee are prominently featured, along with works of many other great 20th-century artists, including Chagall, Kandinsky and more. Art lovers, if you are in Lucerne, do not miss this collection.

Can't stop saying amazing about the art in this collection, never seen before by me photographs of Picasso. Small but impressive number of paintings nyu Chagall among others. The Picasso and Klee collections were just amazing and must see by any art enthusiast.

Museggmauer, also known as the Musegg Wall, is an iconic old city wall in Lucerne. It features nine towers, with four of them open to the public and offering stunning views from the top. The well-preserved medieval fortifications stretch about 2,800 feet long from the north bank of the Reuss almost to the north shore of Lake Lucerne.
Nice area of Lucerne. We came here in the evening for a stroll and found it very relaxing and nice. Lovely experience and I would suggest all tourists to come towards this side of Luzerne. It was not that crowded as well. Recommended!

This is just one of the towers along the old city walls. Highly enjoyable and I loved going up all the towers even though there wasn’t much inside them. At the top of them you get some amazing views. It’s free too!

A must walk on the historical defense walls surrounding the old town. Possibility to visit several towers along the way. Display of ancient clocks system and machines. Great view.
Barefoot C — Google review
Great view of the city! We only ended up climbing two towers but the view was amazing and the air was crisp and it was a very cool historical landmark. On the way up to the wall there were a couple of cows on the hill.
Mia B — Google review
If you want a bird view to the entire town, climb up to the tower! It’s beautiful from up there. But mid you, the stairs up there can be quite steep so be prepared for that. There’s a quiet area at the back where you can relax and read a book. There’s a cute cat in the complex. See if you can spot him.
Akash B — Google review
A must-do historical visit in Lucerne! Plan to spend around 2 hours if you want to climb multiple towers and walk along the ramparts. Each tower is different, so be prepared for lots of stairs!
Uday K — Google review
From the lower parts of the town of Lucerne, I saw the high walls which intrigued me. We ventured up there and started to climb the many steps towards the top of the watchtower and Clocktower. This gives you one of the most pictures views of the town. There are a lot of steps, so it’s not for the faint of heart or people who might struggle with climbing.

Great free activity / visit. You can go up inside the fortress towers. A bit dusty inside but a unique experience if you can manage steep uneven stairs.

Old Town Record Store is a must-visit for music enthusiasts in Lucerne. This iconic store offers a wide selection of vinyl records, CDs, and other music memorabilia. The store's collection spans various genres and eras, making it a treasure trove for collectors and casual music fans alike. Whether you're on the hunt for rare finds or simply want to browse through classic albums, Old Town Record Store has something for everyone.
Old town records is a must stop for vinyl enthusiasts. I found some cool used vinyl. A very good selection of new and used. I love visiting record stores when traveling and this one is the best in this whole area of Switzerland. The owner Adrian is a nice guy and makes the experience fun which is a plus!

Fantastic selection of newer releases with plenty of back catalog options. A record store day participate as well(as of 2025).

I know where Not to buy records. Everything is highly overpriced. They sell twice or more expensive than most of the record stores. Even the "used" records, doesn't go below 9 fr, and they have really common things that I saw many times in used stores for 1 or 2 francs. I just wonder which kind of clients they have. For sure people who doesn't know about music market at all. In the center of Luzern I have buyed on a few stores over twenty records in mint condition with prices from 0.50cnts to 4 fr. So, it's really ridiculous to see similar used records that overpriced.

Old Town Record Store is a really great shop with an excellent selection of vinyl. However, Adi’s customer service is absolutely first class. I purchased a couple records while traveling around the country for my children’s school holiday. When I returned home, I discovered that one of the records was damaged. I contacted Adi, who immediately offered to exchange the record or allow me to choose another record next time I came in. I explained that I lived in Geneva so he offered to send a new copy by post free of charge. It arrived yesterday. I wish I could give six stars because my experience with Adi and Old Town Record Store was incredible.

Neighborhoods
Rathaus Stadt Luzern is an impressive Italian Renaissance-style town hall that has been a significant building in Lucerne for centuries. Designed by Anton Isenmann and constructed between 1602 and 1606, it serves as the seat of government. Located along the charming Kornmarkt square, its towering structure and sturdy stone walls can be seen from Chapel Bridge. The landmark also features a beautiful clock tower, adding to its historical significance.
Visited the Rathaus in Luzern last week, and it’s such a gem! The building itself is stunning—classic Swiss architecture with those beautiful frescoes and wooden details. It’s right by the river, so the location is perfect for a stroll after checking it out. We popped into the basement restaurant too, and the food was surprisingly good—solid Swiss dishes with a cozy vibe. Staff were super friendly, and it wasn’t too crowded, even with tourists around. Definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in Luzern, especially if you love history and a good photo op!

One of the best concert hall acoustics for orchestras I've heard, in a beautiful setting at the lakeside in Lucerne. We came for the classical music festival and heard several concerts showcasing the world's top orchestras, conductors and solo musicians. Not a cheap hobby but a wonderful, once in a lifetime experience. Seat accessibility was not a strong point, but I suppose one must blame the French architect! The acoustic designer was from the US...

Impressive church, the church of the Jesuits, which was built from 1666 to 1677. It represents the peak of the construction activity of the Jesuits in Lucerne. The Jesuit Church in Lucerne was the first large Baroque church in Switzerland. The shell was completed in 1669. The painter Domenico Torriani created the painting of the main altar. The church was renovated in the 1950s and more extensively in the 1970s. The most recent renovation was completed in January 2017. The church is important above all because of its rich furnishings.

Museums
The Kunstmuseum Luzern is home to a large collection of Swiss art from the Renaissance to the present day. It has a particular focus on works from the 19th century.
The museum is conveniently located immediately next to the train station and alongside the lake front. It has interesting architectural moments both from the exterior and interior, at various angles and spaces. The museum rotates some of its works, they explained to me, so you may not see all of them in a single viewing. The exhibits are works of globally known artists. The space is (relatively) small, taking only a single floor of the building, but well laid-out. The cafe was an inviting space for coffee with views and either a conversation or a bit of reading.
Kyle — Google review
Interesting contemporary collection but very tiny overall. 30 minutes is enough to visit everything.
Michel — Google review
We decided to visit the museum because of the exhibition of Malgorzata, it was nice but not very impressive due to the size of the space. However, the set up of the experience (drawing) room was quite nice and fit to the concept of exhibition. Not so much child friendly. The lady from the reception was quite friendly, however, the whole experience with a young kid inside the museum was not too pleasant! The staff was interrupting the whole time, even though our little one was carrying her own chair and sitting away from the art pieces, and not even tried to touch once... The most annoying part was while we were searching for the numbers from the game they designed for the kids, the staff interrupted AGAIN for the kid touching the number sign from the game.

Located right outside Luzern train station on the 4th floor, this was reserved as my last stop before heading back to Lausanne. I really wish I had more time to explore and that my phone wasn’t running out of battery so that I could snap more photos but this is definitely worth a trip down! And once more, with the Swiss Travel Pass, entry to this wonderful museum was free! The ladies at the counter were friendly and helpful and as informed by them, it was “Red” Day yesterday 20 June 2024, (I gathered it was because Switzerland was playing that night in the Euro Cup) the museum stayed open for an extra hour 7pm instead of 6pm. All in all, definitely worth a visit!

Beautiful hotel! Excellent location. A little tricky to get to. We drove in ourselves. They do have valet parking. You do have to drive down cobblestone and past shops. It all looks like you shouldn't be driving on the street but you can. Very spacious rooms. Our room over looked the lake, very romantic. Easy walk for shopping and restaurants. Love the museum as tourist to visit on the rainy day, lots of interactions and things to learn with play around. Including Thai language please 🤩. PS. The staff is very friendly! She gave me the advices for some places to roam around. 😉

Reformierte Kirche Stadt Luzern: Matthäuskirche, also known as St. Matthew Church, is a captivating example of Gothic Renaissance architecture and holds historical significance as the first Reformed church in central Switzerland. Designed by renowned architect Ferdinand Stadler, this three-aisled Gothic basilica was consecrated in 1861 with contributions from across Switzerland.
Small reformed church right in Lucerne

This is the church of my grandfather. He was a minister there from the 40s to the mid 60s if I recall correctly. My brother, sister and myself were baptized there when I was about 10 years old. The church itself is a very simple and modest example. I have fond memories playing there and listening to stories of the what the area around the church once was and how it has changed over the years. Mike Brandly Michigan, USA

Nestled along the historic Musegg Wall, Männliturm stands as a charming sentinel of the past, inviting visitors to ascend its steep stairs for breathtaking views of the city below. This iconic tower is named after a delightful two-meter-high figure known as "Mannli," an iron man clad in knightly armor, proudly holding a flag and sword from his perch atop one of the oriel turrets.
Uncover History at Männliturm, Lucerne 🏰🌄 ⏳ Ascend into the past at Männliturm— part of Lucerne’s iconic Musegg Wall! This 15th-century tower offers more than just medieval charm; it’s a gateway to panoramic vistas and centuries-old secrets. Climb its steps and touch the heartbeat of Swiss heritage! 🔔 Why visit? ✨ Panoramic Views: Gaze over Lucerne’s red rooftops, Lake Lucerne, and the Alps from one of the city’s tallest historic towers. ✨ Historic Clock: Admire the tower’s 16th-century clock face, still ticking as a timeless symbol of craftsmanship. ✨ Musegg Wall Walk: Stroll along the preserved medieval ramparts and explore neighboring towers like Zyt Tower. ✨ The “Little Man”: Spot the armored figure (*Männli*) atop the tower, its namesake guardian since the Middle Ages! Plan your visit: 📍 Where: Männliturm, Musegg Wall, 6004 Lucerne (near the Old Town). 🚶 Getting there: 10-minute walk from Lucerne Station; follow signs to Museggstrasse. 📅 Tip: Visit between April–November when the tower is open to the public (and FREE to enter!). Fun fact: The Musegg Wall’s nine towers were never breached in battle—talk about Swiss resilience! 💪🛡️

Well worth a visit. Beautiful views of all around Luzern. Not for the faint hearted as the steps are steep, and plenty of them. But it's free, and well-kept. Other towers along the way are also pretty cool.
Nia J — Google review
Awesome views, entry is actually under the tower and starts with a few spiral stairs. (See photo)Hold onto the handrails and you may have to walk backward coming down a few of the stairs on your way down.
Timothy B — Google review
Stumbled across this by accident, 100% worth a visit. Most amazing views, quite the climb up and not all the towers are open- I noticed a sign saying open 7am - 9pm April to November
Bernard — Google review
Walking along the Musegg Wall is a fantastic experience, and the Männliturm is a definite highlight. The climb up offers stunning perspectives over the city and lake. From this part of the wall, you get a particularly wonderful view of the fairytale-like Hotel Château Gütsch on the opposite hill—it's the perfect spot to capture a beautiful photo! I also had a lovely, unexpected encounter with the local wildlife. I spotted a cute little lizard near the stone wall. It got shy and slipped away as soon as it saw me, but a moment later, I saw it cautiously poking its head out from under some leaves to watch me back. It was a charming little moment that added to the magic of the visit. Highly recommend stopping here for the history, the incredible photo opportunities, and the delightful little moments you might find.
Chieh-Sheng C — Google review
Mannliturm near Lucerne sits on the rugged Muggmauer ridge and dates back centuries, offering a real taste of local history. The climb up its 122 steps rewards with sweeping views of Lake Lucerne and the surrounding hills. Curiously, someone brought their dog up too. Going down is trickier, so watch your step. This quiet spot feels like a hidden gem away from crowds. Visit in clear weather to make the most of the panorama and bring sturdy shoes for the stair climb. Perfect for those who want history and views without the usual tourist bustle.
Noel M — Google review
It’s quite a climb on small uneven stairs. Once at the top, the view is spectacular!
Marcel N — Google review
Clock tower with good views of Lucerne. I recommend just climbing this, and not the watchtowers on the way—being the highest tower, it has the best views of them all.

Historical landmark
Nestled within the historic Museggmauer, the Schirmerturm, or Umbrella Tower, is a captivating piece of Lucerne's past. This gate tower once served as a vital link between the city and the countryside, particularly during tumultuous times like the Zurich War in 1442. Although it was sealed off in 1658, it reopened its doors to visitors in 1878 alongside the construction of Musegg school.
Very interesting and historical gate tower, part of the defensive network of towers and wall built to protect Lucerne in the early 1400s. Another must-see site on your visit to Lucerne with beautiful views from the top of the tower. However, be prepared to climb wooden and stone stairs to reach the top.
Rue — Google review
Free to visit and enter. A nice coin machine is on the second floor that will make a pressed coin if you insert a 2 franc and 20 cent coin. The views from the towers and walkway are excellent.
Zachary S — Google review
Definitely worth the walk up only trick is stairs or steep be careful with your footing. Your heart rate will definitely go up as you climb. Views are wonderful.
Timothy B — Google review
The first set of towers of the defensive wall, starting on the north eastern side. You can climb up the wall and walk through several of the towers, viewing some of the historical notes.
Mat B — Google review
The fa t you can walk in at no charge is a bonus. The views over old town, the lake with the mountains in the distance are simply beautiful. Definitely worth a visit if you have time. The best view point is from on top of the wall. I would butter clinging to the tip of the tower, the views are behind dirty plastic. Best view is from the walking along the wall.

Schirmerturm is one of the nine towers that make up the Museggmauer, a historic city wall that surrounds the Old Town of Lucerne. It is located on the east side of the wall, near the Musegg Gate. The tower offers stunning views of the Old Town, the lake, and the surrounding mountains. There is also a small museum inside the tower that tells the history of the Museggmauer.

Excellent place, what a view! Totally worth of hiking till there and walk up to all the towers! Hotel Astoria Luzern is a contemporary and stylish hotel designed by legendary architects Herzog & de Meuron, located in the heart of Lucerne. The hotel boasts modern and spacious rooms with upscale amenities, offering a comfortable stay for guests. Its convenient location near the railway station and Old Town makes it easily accessible for travelers. Guests can enjoy Swiss and international cuisine at the on-site restaurant while exploring nearby attractions such as Chapel Bridge, Mt.
The hotel is conveniently located where it’s easy to get to the train station and the river. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurant options in/around the building. The rooms are clean and modern. I had a package delivered to my room and the hotel handled it flawlessly.

It is a nice hotel and walkable distance from Luzern train station. The room was nice with sufficent space. The facilities are good and hotel serves good continental breakfast. Sufficient options available. The staff is very nice and supportive. We stayed for 6 days and hence felt a bit monotonous as they don't change the breakfast options. We requested for some dinner plates and they said, they will charge 2 EUR per plate. They have a nice rooftop bar and the ambience is great. Overall good value for money.

Hotel Astoria Luzern Stayed on 6/14 This hotel is conveniently located, with quick access to the train station and the lakeside. The front desk staff were very helpful—when I requested a sewing kit, they provided it immediately. However, if you're staying on a weekend, you might want to think twice. The soundproofing is poor, and noises from the corridor and neighboring rooms easily come through. There are also several bars upstairs and outside the hotel. It remained noisy until around 2–3 a.m., and the windows didn’t block the sound effectively. I couldn’t get proper rest until around 4:00 a.m. Room cleanliness was average—I found a small cockroach in the room when checking out. The breakfast was decent, but since we booked as part of a group, we were seated away from the windows. One server insisted that I sit in a spot where I couldn't access the buffet. Even after I explained the issue, they insisted I stay at that inaccessible table. At the same time, many tables in another section remained empty, which made the arrangement hard to understand. Due to this experience, I regret to say that I wouldn’t choose to stay at this hotel again for future solo trips.

*Astoria Hotel Lucerne Review* We had a fantastic 3-night stay at the Astoria Hotel in Lucerne. The hotel's rules were a bit strict, requiring a room key to access the floor and a deposit upon arrival. Additionally, rooms were pre-assigned, and our group of 8 wasn't able to get rooms near each other. However, the hotel staff accommodated our needs by placing the kids' rooms on the same floor and the adults' rooms on separate floors. *Highlights:* - *Great Rooms and Breakfast*: Our rooms were comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. I'd give it a 10/10! - *Dining Options*: The hotel has multiple restaurants, including Thai, Italian, Asian, Chinese, and Japanese Ramen. The Rooftop Bar offers a great selection of wine and spirits, with a fantastic view. - *Staff*: The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home. - *Hotel Layout*: The hotel has a spacious layout, with a sitting area on the 1st floor and easy access to the main desk via escalator, stairs, or elevator. *Overall Experience:* Despite some initial challenges with room assignments, we had a great time at the Astoria Hotel. The hotel's amenities and staff made our stay enjoyable, and we'd definitely consider returning. *Rating:* I'd give the Astoria Hotel 4.5/5 stars. While there were some minor issues with room assignments, the hotel's strengths outweighed its weaknesses.

THIS Hotel is no sound proof. With wooden floor & unprotected legs of chairs, it is the noisiest hotel i have ever stayed. Worst than all, they start to clean around 7am !! With the crazy cleaner who makes sure than she can create maximum noise & the staff that were unable to do anything because this is the way the hotel is. If peace is important to you, never book this hotel.

This hotel is a maze. Literally! It’s a bit confusing as far as a layout, but I figured it out quickly. My room was just okay. Didn’t have many plug ins for me to charge stuff on. Location is great and the restaurants offered great food too

Centrally located in Lucern this is a high end property. I enjoyed the decor, breakfast was sumptuous. The rooms were a bit tight. A support column next to window was too close to bed that caused us to bump in. Over all good hotel.

Clean, walkable to restaurants to, shopping and historic area. Fabulous rooftop bar, and very good breakfast buffett. The wait staff at breakfast buffet were wonderful. The front desk staff - some so very helpful but one was disappointingly rude - perhaps a language issue:( Photos are from the unique bar with beautiful views.

Definitely recommend this hotel! We had a great stay. From our arrival and the friendly front desk receptionists, to the beautiful, clean and updated rooms, we had a wonderful experience. Great location just across the train station and close to all of the main areas of Lucerne. Room had good AC and crib was provided for our small child. Breakfast was also great, Alejandra, our server, was the best!!! Overall, would definitely recommend this hotel!!

Very friendly staff. All some English quite well, as well as multiple other languages. Rooms were exceptional clean and modern. Natalie at the desk was pleasant and very helpful in planning our day of sightseeing. Alvin, a waiter in the dining area was funny and started our day off right away breakfast each morning. There was a piano player entertaining in the lounge in the evening who was excellent! He played our requests with flair.

First time staying at this hotel. Very friendly staff, clean hotel with modern touch. We got the connecting rooms - very nice. They have an electric kettle in the room with some tea bags, some sugar packs and a bag of peanuts. They also provide complimentary water bottle, sparkling water and coke zero in the fridge. In the bathroom, they have mounted in the wall shampoo and body gel. The hotel is located very conveniently near the train terminal and some major supermarket and some restaurants. Very much recommending people to stay at this hotel, you won't regret it.

Friendly staff. Free drink when book directly. Very good location closed to the train station. Decently clean room. But a fatal mistake. We arrived in the morning and checked our luggage. When we got our room they delivered our luggage to our room and missed 2 pieces. They lost 2 pieces of our luggage. For 30 minutes, I was in panic. Very fortunately, the other guest whose room had my Luggage delivered to in mistake brought my luggage to the front desk. If the guy was out or not a good person, I would lose my luggage for good and my whole trip would be ruined. The mistake is that the hotel staff delivered our luggage to the room opposite us even though each piece of our luggage was cleared tagged with the correct room number. The hotel delivery staff was careless and reckless. Not recommending this hotel for sure.

Stayed here the first 5 nights of our Switzerland vacation. The bar has been set very high! This is a great hotel! It is very close to the train station, but the rooms are quiet. The bed is very comfortable, the room has a hair dryer, facecloths, and shampoo and conditioner and body wash. We also had a fridge and Nespresso machine. The breakfast is delicious with tremendous choice and starts at 7 am. The staff are friendly and helpful. We also could walk everywhere very easily. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Exceptional Service Saved Our Stay! Booked a triple room via Chase points, but it wasn't in the hotel's system at check-in. Instead of hassle, the front desk staff and manager immediately provided us with two rooms to ensure our family's comfort while they sorted things out with Chase. This was incredibly thoughtful and showed they genuinely care about guests! Combine that with an unbeatable location (just 5 minutes from the train station) and wonderfully clean, modern rooms, and this hotel is an absolute must-stay. Highly recommended!

Good location. Just across the street from the side entrance of the main train station. 10 min walk from old town Unfortunately not a fan of the hotel corridor layout whereby you have to climb up and down steps (on your room floor) to enter/exit Had a free welcome drink for booking directly Alvin from the breakfast staff was friendly a nice

Visited here on 5 April 2025 specially to see the actual Redbull Strato jump capsule and spacesuit worn by Felix who broke several world records in 2012. There are only 2 original space-jump capsules in existence today. One of them is permanently on display here in the hanger and the other one is likely in the USA. Lots of people queuing up here to drive the large "Ultimus Prime" truck =P I was here for only 2 hours and could barely see 50% of the exhibits. I recommend spending at least 6 hours here.

If you're planning a trip to Lucerne, make sure to include the Swiss Chocolate Adventure in your itinerary! This delightful experience takes you on a journey through the fascinating world of chocolate making, set against the stunning backdrop of Switzerland's landscapes. The adventure features an engaging 20-minute multimedia film that reveals where chocolate ingredients come from and how this beloved treat is crafted. Perfect for families, especially kids aged six and up, it’s an immersive way to learn about Swiss chocolate history while tantalizing your senses.
The adventure which starts with a cart ride and takes you through the history of Chocolate in an interactive multimedia journey . The bonus is of course the free chocolate sample bowl plus chocolate tasting. It is housed in the Swiss Transport Museum. Taking a ferry from Lucerne is the best and scenic option. It also has shops, cafes and a park like area where you can laze and stroll.
Manipadma ( — Google review
The design of this adventures take you in to the world of Chocolate productions. It’s a fun and relax way to explore the world of chocolate. You do learn a little bit about it. But if you come with kids, all it left would be desire to eat chocolate. Not sure it’s best for kids under 12.
The A — Google review
It’s a thematic experience since it’s in the museum of transport. But, in my opinion, it wasn’t very interesting. The experience is resumed on watching 9 videos of 90 seconds that tell the story of chocolate and Lindt. You’ll get a bombom in the middle of the experience and one in the end. You’ll receive a gift card for 4 bombons that you’ll get at the store.
Isabella F — Google review
Although it is pretty good, the assistance for non-German speaking is very unexistent. At the very end, when someone gave us some card, we were asked if we have translators. Devices that we were supposed to get before the tour. The tour that was validated by a door man, then another time by a woman who seated us in. The tour itself is automatic, very pleasant, but if you are not a German speaker, please ask for a translation device, it will make the experience much pleasant! P.S. at the end free candy! 😊
Eduard D — Google review
This experience puts you in a cart for 15 minutes and pushes you around different rooms telling you about the evolution and production of chocolate. It’s a pretty interesting and unique way of learning something new. At the start you get a translator for if you’re a non-german speaker. After the tour you get a voucher so you can claim a free bag of a few chocolates which was nice! I suggest doing this tour if you’re already in the transport museum. I wouldn’t suggest going to this experience alone also since it only lasts around 15 minutes.

We just left the adventure. Paid full price with a kid and during the tasting the museum did not give sample pralines although it is included as an experience for which we paid full price. Disappointed. Do not go, it's a scam.
Daniya S — Google review
It was dissapointing experience. May be because my expectations were too high and my English audio guide didn't work. But I think it is better to spend these 18F in the shop and buy chocolate there
Vilmis S — Google review
The adventure itself is quite enjoyable, with intriguing facts and captivating scenery. However, the subsequent chocolate tasting experience leaves much to be desired. It took place in a souvenir store, and the lady in charge on that particular day appeared to harbor a strong aversion towards people. Accompanied by my friend and her son, we encountered a rather unpleasant incident when the boy expressed his interest in sampling the chocolate. The lady, visibly annoyed, curtly inquired if we were members of the 'Chocolate Adventure'. Even after confirming our membership, she promptly turned her back on us and resumed explaining the nuances of chocolate to other visitors. Such disregard, particularly towards a child, is utterly unacceptable.

Historical landmark
Wachtturm is a beautiful historical landmark located in Lucerne, Switzerland. Built back in the 1350s, it once served as a hay storage tower, but also played an important role in storing gunpowder which caused its destruction in 1701. Today, visitors can climb up and down the wall through this landmark and take in the beautiful views of Lucerne's old city walls and river below.
Worth visiting! There are lots of stairs (of course), including some that are pretty steep. But worth it for the views and to see all the clock components.
Rachel D — Google review
The tower is fully closed during the winter. The upper courtyard area is also closed as it is undergoing renovations. The lower area can still be accessed, so you can get some of the views. There are a few flower beds and statues. On the other side of the wall, there are statues, seats, a Catholic shrine, a small playground, a ball area, and a 100m running track. Although you are not getting the full experience, it is still worth a look.

Great place to visit and learn about history. Some wonderful towers to climb and amazing views of the city. Two downfalls, not at all handicap accessible and there needs to be more diagrams and displays to educate visitors about the history. Take the three tower challenge! Climb all thee!
