The Archaeological Museum of Nafplio is housed in a historic Venetian building located at the main Syntagma Square. The museum showcases a diverse collection of historical artifacts from various civilizations, spanning from the Paleolithic Era to modern times. Visitors can explore exhibits that include a remarkable bronze suit of armor dating back to the 15th century BC, among other local treasures.
Simply impressive. Do you have the opportunity to go? Then don't skip it. The history and energy of this place are truly special, the silence and serenity are magical. We went on a tour through Booking, and this is the most honest review: Without a tour, it’s very difficult to reach this place from Athens. So, for the transportation and transfers, it's 100% worth it. The guide is very limited since it’s through a device (What we did was add GPT to WhatsApp to ask it in real time the things we wanted to know)🤣 Enjoy!

Maybe is the smallest Archaeological museum I have ever visit. Just four rooms or two floors.. 10 euros entrance and no more of one hour you will need to see the things that have inside. At the old city you can find this museum..and as always Greece is full of ancient stuff.
Antonis M — Google review
A very nice archaeological museum, not too big so it’s easy to explore without feeling rushed. The museum is well organized, with two floors dedicated to the ancient cultures of the region. You can use an audio guide, and there are several sort of benches between the displays where you can sit, rest and listen to the commentary. The staff are friendly and helpful. Just be aware that the stairs to both the first and second floors are quite steep. Overall, a pleasant and interesting visit!

The Archaeological Museum of Nafplio is a museum in the town of Nafplio of the Argolis region in Greece. It has exhibits of the Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Helladic, Mycenaean, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods from all over southern Argolis. The museum is situated in the central square of Nafplion. It is housed in two floors of the old Venetian barracks. The oldest exhibits in the museums are Paleolithic clay hearths from the Kleisoura Gorge near Prosymna (32,000-21,000 BCE)
Vassilis G — Google review
This a tiny, absolutely unnecessary, however, very charming museum. It is two storeys of findings from Mykene epoch, which is a lot earlier than classical Greek. No hands on experience for the kids. However the exhibition itself is versatile enough for everyone to find something interesting. Most notable items have a good explanation in English.
Nastia L — Google review
This museum has an impressive collection of artifacts from nearby archaeological sites. The items are exhibited with helpful explanations. There is also a silent video.
Susan M — Google review
A very interesting museum ,it houses exhibits from Prehistotic period to Roman times !Lots of exhibits from the Myceanean civilization ,it's worth visiting!
Georgios H — Google review
A lovely collection of interesting and priceless pieces of art and tools that come from an era long gone. Great atmosphere and not crowded even during peak vacation days in Greece. You might find the entry rules to be slightly discriminatory: if you’re an EU citizen under 25 years of age it’s free, if you’re a non-EU citizen under 25 it’s 3€. Albeit, both EU and non-EU over 25 are required to pay the full price of 6€. I personally don’t see the point in all of that but in any case, the entry is not overpriced in my opinion.

Fortress

Castle
Palamidi is a Venetian-built fortress located on a hill, offering stunning sea views and accessed by 857 winding steps. It overlooks the historic port city of Nafplio, which was once the first capital of independent Greece. The fortress is a remarkable example of Venetian fortification architecture and was constructed in just three years during the early 18th century.
Beautiful! We took the Ho-Ho up and the stairs down. The view from above of both the newer part of town and the old part is very good. There’s a small cafe where you can buy fresh juice or bottled drinks/water and snacks near the stairs.
Gita — Google review
Beautiful views from the top, the panoramas are really worth it. Unfortunately, the site itself is poorly maintained, not really visitable inside, and the €20 entrance fee is absolutely too much. I’m giving it 3 stars mainly because of the price – €5–10 would be more appropriate considering the limited access and its recent history.
Pasquale M — Google review
A fantastic place to visit in Nafplio! The view from the top is absolutely stunning, especially when the water around the town turns that beautiful blue-green turquoise shade. There are several viewpoints around the fortress, so take your time to walk around and enjoy the different perspectives. There’s also a small café inside for a quick break. You can either climb up the famous stairs or drive up — both options are worth it. The only downside is that the ticket price feels a bit high, but overall, it’s definitely worth the visit for the view alone!
Sothy U — Google review
Absolutely gorgeous views and a very impressive fortress. The architecture and preservation is amazing. We had so much fun exploring and there seemed to be a new view around every corner. I was surprised they even had a little snack cafe’ in the main area and it appeared they were working on some sort of museum as well. Oh…bring good shoes with traction. You’ll thank me later.
Jessica&Tom W — Google review
Awesome view of the city of Nafplio from the firetress on top of the hill. The foretress itself is well built and has some interesting stories behind it.
Li L — Google review
Definitely worth a visit for the views. There’s 2 ways to go up. Can either go by car or climb the stairs. The climb looks more daunting than it is. Casual pace can take around 20min. I recommend going in the morning so your in the shade during the climb. Depending on time of year take a bottle or water and wear a hat especially during hotter times of year. No drones allowed on site. It also says no cameras but there was a few people inside with them… If you want to explore everything casually you would need roughly 2 hours. Last entrance is 20min before closing time. Entrance is €20 per person. There’s also a snack bar but nearly everything is inflated other than the 500ml water which is 50 cents. Take your time and enjoy the views. There’s lot to see and explore.
Demetrios V — Google review
The fortress is an impressive place with amazing views over Nafplio and the sea. The history and atmosphere are truly worth experiencing. However, the entrance fee (20€ per person) feels a bit high, especially since there’s no museum or additional exhibition inside. It takes no time at all to climb the stairs, but walking down the road will take you about an hour.
Maria B — Google review
The Palamidi Fortress, a grand and impressive Venetian fortress, is nestled on the crest of a high hill overlooking Nafplio. A must-see sight, it feels like a never-ending structure that sprawls across most of the hill. It’s a top destination to visit if you’re nearby, as exploring it and learning about its rich history can take two hours or more. You can access it by climbing 913 steps from the town of Nafplio or by car/taxi, which brings you directly to the fortress entrance, where parking is available. We recommend arriving early, as the parking fills up quickly. The fortress also offers free public restrooms, a bar, and a museum shop.

The War Museum Nafplio is a three-level building located on Amalias Street, showcasing an exceptional collection of items related to various historic events. These include the Greek War of Independence, the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, and both World Wars. The museum features unique exhibits such as a rich collection of photographs that bring these historic events to life. Additionally, it houses a national flag from a WWII Greek military unit that fought against Italian and Albanian forces.
Very interesting small museum highlighting the War of Greek Independence and the German occupation of Greece during World War 2. The admission fee is 3 Euros. The building has steep stairs and I didn't notice if there was an elevator. It's a very old building, You may have to ask. Give it a look.
Dave S — Google review
A small, but rich museum with a lot of objects, documents and images related to the Independence War and WWII. You can also watch a very interesting movie on the topic, with English subtitles. The building itself is very nice and the staff is really polite and welcoming.
Denisa-Violeta D — Google review
If you’re a history lover, you’ll enjoy this museum. There’s a soldier at the entrance and if you need any help he’ll do. The entrance fee was 3€. It is made of 2 floors, 1st for WWI, and 2nd for WWII. There are photos (with explanations and english translation), a movie on a TV that explains everything, uniforms, arms, and more.
Antonella L — Google review
Great small museum that covers Greek military engagements from the war of independence through WWII. Lots of historic weapons, uniforms, and documents on display. There is a continuous running movie on Greece during WWII on the top floor. There was plenty of references to Nafplio’s role in these conflicts. It was the nation’s first capital after it won independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1821. It was very interesting. The museum is staffed with very polite soldiers from the Greek Army. It stays open later than the museums too. Everything had descriptions in English. We discussed some of the history with the soldier on duty. He was well informed and proud of his history. Well worth a visit.
Paul — Google review
Great place for history buffs. Only complaint is that overall its a bit hard to follow if you don't know the context. In other words, it doesn't tell a story. Otherwise, it was clean and quiet.
Sam C — Google review
I'll always rate a military or war history museum a bit higher as it is a keen interest. The price is very low to get in. Building is in a bit of disrepair though (bathroom ceiling was even leaking rain water) so hopefully they spend some money fixing the place up a bit in the future. Enjoyed the video on 2nd floor and the various uniforms and weapons on display. If your not a fan you'll probably feel this place is a 2 or 3.
David M — Google review
In this historical building the first military school of Greece was founded. The collection is superb starting from the 1821 Greek Revolution era .WWI&WW2 exhibition items are also included. A visit in this place is a must and everyone should give it a try.
Kostas M — Google review
We actually came here to get out of the sun for a little bit, but it turned out to be one of my favorite places in Nafplio. The museum is set up in chronological order from the start of the Greek army until present day. There are a lot of interesting items to see, but my favorite was the WWII video on the top floor. We spent more time than we had originally planned, but loved every part of it. Definitely give it a try if you're around.

The Komboloi Museum in Nafplio is a small but fascinating museum dedicated to the Greek worry beads known as komboloi. Established by Aris Evangelinos, it features over 1,000 unique and intricately crafted komboloi, showcasing their cultural significance and artistry. The well-curated collection includes komboloi from the 1700s to the present day, made of materials such as amber, coral, ivory, ebony, or bone.
I have no words to describe the experience that I lived in this place. Visiting for the first time I got mesmerized by music, atmosphere, smell and history of tradition of this magnificent place. The kind lady there who helped us, is truly a teacher of art, Greek language, a time traveler that takes you along at this trip. I was totally fascinated with the small details like their own perfume that they use on kompoloi and mpegleri, that brings to mind Greece in a poetic way. Definitely a store that serves tradition with respect, knowledge and makes your shopping an incredible experience. Thank you for making our day so special!!! You truly deserve all 5 stars and more!

Neat little museum with ancient komboloi and prayer beads. Fun to learn a bit of history from friendly staff and the shop has nice and unique souvenirs. Would recommend for a quick diversion while exploring Nafplio.

Loved this wee shop, it has a beautiful vibe. A lovely staff member helped me choose some prayer beads made by local monks, what an honour to be able to wear these. She gave us lots of information on the beads and history, fascinating. I also purchased some homemade amber perfume

Sights & Landmarks

The Church of Saint Spyridon, located in the heart of Nafplio Old Town, is a significant landmark with a rich historical background. Built in 1702 during the Second Venetian domination, it holds great importance in Greek history as it was the site of the assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, Greece's first governor. This small yet pivotal church witnessed key events such as the establishment of Greece's first parliament and military school.
Important place where the first president of Greece was assassinated. In a historic picturesque neighborhood.
Stefan B — Google review
Here Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias was assassinated on October 9th 1831, by members of the Mavromichalis family. He was shot and stabbed. The bullet hole is still in the wall by the entrance. Painting inside the church of the assassination. If you go check out the ottoman fountains in the square with Arabic calligraphy.

The church where Greeks killed the first prime minister of Greece. You can actually see the spot where they shoot him and stab him..they wanted to be sure that they will kill him.. a church full of history and energy.. entrance is free..no need ticket.. but they have barred the half church you can't go near the temple to see.
Antonis M — Google review
Very nice orthodox old style church, with a very interesting monument of the spot that the first governor of modern Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias was assasinated.
Dimitris P — Google review
The Church of Agios (Saint) Spiridon in Nafplion, Peloponnese: The church of Agios Spyridon is located in the Old Town of Nafplion, along with the paved streets of the town. This church was first built in 1702 with the financing of the Nafplion Brotherhood of Orthodox Greeks. This is a single-space basilica with a dome and a bell tower constructed in 1853. The interior of the church is solemn and there are many Byzantine icons and paintings around the walls. The painting that marks out for its vivid colors and its unusual theme is the large fresco of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, just opposite the entrance door. Also, another unusual sign for an Orthodox church is the Star of David, a Jewish symbol that can be seen at the floor, almost in the center of the church. This church has an important historical significance for the Greeks. It was there that on September 27th, 1831, the first governor of the newly-established Greek State, Ioannis Kapodistrias, was assassinated by his political opponents, some men from the Mavrokordatos family, a wealthy and strong family that time in Greece who had contributed a lot in the Greek War of Independence. That Sunday morning, Kapodistrias was going to the Holy Mass. As usually, he preferred this church that was dedicated to Saint Spiridon, the protector of his homeland, Corfu. Few men appeared from the stairs opposite the church and shot him. In fact, some of these bullets still have their prints against the wall of the church. These prints have been framed in a glass case. Personally the specific historical church is very beautiful from outside and from inside.
Gerasimos M — Google review
The spot where kapodistrias was murdered. The bullet hit point is the actual monument
N. P — Google review
The very place where the history of our small nation changed for worse. The shady assassination of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of the independent state of Greece, turned our country from a modern republic to a puppet kingdom, which is the source of pathogenicity up to this day for modern Greece. Sit on the stairs opposite to the church entrance and let your imagination unfold the tragic event.

The Lion of the Bavarians, also known as Agouroon by locals, is a famous attraction located in Nafplio, Argolis. Carved into the rock with fine artistry, this monument was created in 1836 by German sculptor Siegel at the request of King Ludovik to honor Bavarian soldiers who succumbed to typhoid fever between 1833 and 1834.
Great spot to relax. It's not a noisy part of the town and I didn't see a single tourist even though the town was extremely busy due to the yacht show. Highly recommend especially if you want to escape the crowds. There are also swings for the kids just opposite. FYI, you don't need any tickets to see the landmark, it's open to the public.
Dora — Google review
The sculpture itself is a masterpiece. The park in which it is located, is filthy and full of rubbish. I live in the area and there are always people at night partying and leaving rubbish there with a bin just a few metres away across the street. There are no bins in the park itself and the local govt should get their act together and place bins and send council workers more often to clean up the mess and take care of the landscaping.
Rod G — Google review
Interesting to look at if you are passing by, but don't make a special trip. You may even miss it if you did not specifically look for it up carved into the rock face above. TIP: The cemetery around the corner is interesting if you are here anyway.

The Land Gate in Nafplion, dating back to 1708, was the sole entrance to the city from the land during Venetian rule. Guarded by the military and closed at sunset, it held great importance for Venice's security of this port. Situated below Akronafplia walls, it is a significant relic of the city's history. While not a standalone attraction, its presence contributes to the charm and ambiance of Nafplion's old town.
Do the climb to the fort. It costs 8 Euros and is strenuous but the view and workout are worth it. It helps to work off some of those calories from the great Greek food and wine.

Bourtzi Fortress, situated on the islet of St. Theodoroi near Nafplio Harbor, was constructed by the Venetians in 1473 as a defense against invaders. Over time, it served various purposes including a prison, executioner's residence, hotel, and restaurant. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction with boat trips available during summer months and weekends from October to March.
Fantastic monument. Greatly worth the visit. Boats every 30 minutes on the half hour. Great views. Nice exhibit. Amazing restoration and helpful guides. Super pleasant people everywhere. A monument not to miss. Weather was cold, but warmth of people made up for it.
Kevin B — Google review
An icon of Nafplion, Bourtzi fortress is a must when visiting. Catch a 5 euro-return ferry (blue and white boat) from a nondescript pickup/set down point on the dock. There is another 5 euro entrance fee into the fortress upon arrival (cash and card accepted), and you have free roam of the island. There are a few historic boards around detailing different parts of the fortress' history. There is also a museum and shop but both were closed on my visit. Enjoy the views of the Bay, Nafplion and the surrounds from this iconic island. There is a WC on the island, and a lift, however most of the island is not disabled friendly. Ferry's (separate service and fee to the entrance) run every 20-30 mins.

Outstanding! Go early and you might get the boat ride and the fortress to yourself. Information in English for tourists, all facilities- toilets, coffee shop, wheelchair accessible. Immaculately presented.

Bourtzi is a centuries-old Venetian fortress built starting in 1471 by Antonio Gambello and completed by the engineer Brancaleone It functioned as a defensive stronghold connected to the mainland by a chain, and later served as an executioner's residence, hotel, and now a restored tourist site. The castle offers stunning panoramic views of Nafplio's Old Town, the waterfront, and surrounding fortresses like Acronafplia and Palamidi. Many highlight it as a picture-perfect photo spot, especially at sunrise or sunset

7 euro boat ride, 7 euro entrance to the fortress. A place with a rich history, an exceptionally beautifully renovated fortress. The view is unreal. Recommendation

Bourzi is an emblematic monument,(island) near the port of Nafplio. It is a very beautiful castle with a lot of levels and stairs. You can go there by boat in ten minutes and it costs 5 euro. The ticket for the entrance costs 5 euro each.

It’s worth the short boat ⛴️ ride to the castle but when it comes to the castle itself it’s literally empty, they should’ve taken advantage of the empty spaces (especially the top of it) and maybe create a rooftop bar 🍸 or a restaurant 🍽️. When you get there, you get a really nice view of Nafplio and the nearby mountains ⛰️

Castle
Nafplio, a charming coastal town in Greece, is home to several historical sites including the impressive Palamidi fortress, Bourtzi Castle in the bay, and Akronafplia Castle. The town's neoclassical architecture reflects its history as the first capital of modern Greece. While wandering through the old town, visitors can explore churches and museums before heading to Akronafplia Castle, which has been transformed into an upscale hotel.
Approximately 912 steps until the main entrance in the Castle if you choose to walk to the top - that is the case you didn’t go to the gym in the morning or you decided that this is the place where you want to start your exercising journey. If that’s not the case then you can take a taxi or drive to the top and from the parking lot you can explore the beauty of the castle! It is not wheelchair accessible and you have to be in shape to go around! Suitable for children however in certain places you need to make sure they are supervised because they might have an accident! How my husband is characterizing the spot ? “The perfect murder place” 😒 the views are amazing, you can enjoy some beautiful moment just by sitting down and watching the sea and the mountains around! Don’t forget to search for the prison of Kolokotronis!

Very nice castle! Unfortunately, as it happens 4 times out of 5, the place has garbage lying around. I sincerely don’t understand why Greece has so much plastic and garbage just left here there and everywhere. Is it a matter of zero education? The view is amazing!

Great place for a panoramic view of Nafplio , quite a bit of uphill climbing, worth the effort!
Joseph P — Google review
The point of view maybe worth the visit, but was really the most dirty and abandoned place of the city. From broken street lights and garbage to condoms. The archeological site was completely abandoned and tourists were trying to find a way through the vegetation. Its simply a question, what does the municipality do for this place? It's a shame.

The National Gallery - Nafplio Department is a treasure trove of history and culture, nestled in the charming town of Nafplio. The gallery's annex showcases exquisite works by renowned artists such as Gyzis, Lytras, and Vryzakis. Housed in a neoclassical building with a rich past, it has served various purposes over the years before becoming part of the National Gallery.
An awesome exhibit about the Greek Revolution of 1821 is being held from 22.05.21 until 30.06.22. There is also a small souvenir shop with some of the paintings appearing on pens, notebooks, pins, booklets, etc. I went there on a Saturday afternoon and it was almost empty. There were barely any people so I had a good time to walk around the gallery in peace. It took me around 30 minutes to see everything and with no rush. I obviously had a good time there, bought a couple of souvenirs and definitely recommend!

In every city we go to, we try to visit the art gallery that they have. This gallery open at 10:00 in the morning, so don't start too early to go there. It isn't so big.. two floors of paintings.. mainly inspired from the greek revolution against the Turks. Don't forget that Nafplion was the capital city after Greece became an independent country.

Beautiful little gallery telling the story of the Greek war of independence alongside temporary exhibitions. Collection is great and one of the staff gave us an excellent impromptu tour. Highly recommend.
Paul B — Google review
It houses historical paintings from the National Gallery collection, related to the Greek War Independence (1821-1829), thus giving the historical character of the city of Nafplion, as the first capital of Greece, palpable form. The annex also comprises a temporary exhibition gallery The Nafplio Annexe present an exhibition dedicated to the work of Maria Filopoulou, titled Freedom, on view in the museum’s temporary exhibitions gallery. Through fifteen paintings and two sculptures, Maria Filopoulou conveys a profound inner drive for creation, portraying representational, lived-in environments under luminous skies and Mediterranean suns. Her works celebrate human presence and evoke the fullness of nature, immersed in rhythm and radiant light

Nestled in the heart of Nafplio, Mediterraneo Wine & Deli is a vibrant and modern establishment that beautifully marries tradition with contemporary flair. With its charming centuries-old stone arch, this deli offers an exquisite selection of Mediterranean cheeses, cold cuts, and a remarkable variety of wines—about 90% sourced from various regions across Greece like Santorini and Nemea.
Very special wine bar with Greek and international wines. We got great suggestions from Yorgos who is very educated with deep understanding! We enjoyed the conversation with him and the general ambience in the bar!

The rosé wines were nice, and the food was good overall. The Caprese salad and the selection of cheeses and hams were enjoyable, though not particularly unique. However, the water was a bit overpriced at 3 euros.

This is for sure the best wine bar in Nafplio. It has the best atmosphere and both waiters are professional and have knowledge about the wines. They have a big variety of greek wines, that you need to taste while visiting this area. And you always get a nice snack together with the wine - like olives or cheese/sausages. It is one of the only bars in Nafplio where you don't smoke inside 🤗 I give it my best recommendation

Lia B — Google review
(Translated by Google) One of the oldest surviving buildings from the period of the first Ottoman rule is the Old Mosque, which adorns the city center of Nafplio. The "Trianon", known to all Nafplio residents, a beautiful building that characterizes Syntagma Square, was a place of religion during the period of Turkish rule. The mosque was simple, without special features, dedications or decorations with large minarets and was located in the district of the Grand Vizier or in the district of the Sultan Ahmet's khan, in the center of the city's market. The "Trianon" is probably one of the authentic Ottoman mosques built during the first Ottoman period. In 1687, during the Venetian rule, it was converted, like most mosques, into a Christian church dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, a donation by the Venetian commander-in-chief Francesco Morosini. During the second Ottoman period, it was used again as a Muslim mosque. In 1833, the first Co-educational Boys' School was housed. In 1915, it was converted into a conservatory and theater, and then into a municipal cinema under the name "Trianon", a name it retains to this day. It is one of the smallest theaters in the city. It is a building with a simple rectangular floor plan, whose dome is octagonal. Its entrance has a columned porch housed by three small domes. To the west of the building there was a small courtyard, which does not survive today. Due to the various uses, the building has undergone many changes from its original form. The old mosque is perhaps the oldest surviving example of Ottoman architecture in the city of Nafplio. Today, theatrical performances, art exhibitions and many schools hold their events. The reason I gave it 3*** is that the building has been left to its own devices on the outside and the signs of its abandonment are obvious. It would be good if the mayor or the regional government dealt with it.

Its striking architecture features dressed grey stone and an impressive domed roof, with legends suggesting that materials from the Tomb of Agamemnon were incorporated into its design.

The ambiance is laid-back and relaxed, with a terrace for guests to enjoy. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available. The pension offers brightly-colored accommodations with stone walls and uniquely decorated rooms and apartments.
We were accommodated in building D in the first half of June. I've been reading the reviews and wondering if it's the same accommodation we were given. We were very satisfied. Thanks to the owner for allowing us to stay with a poodle, considering we arrived with no plan in advance. The room eas cleaned daily. It is a bit small, but the positioning, balcony view and the fact that they accepted us with a poodle gives them a 10.

Location of the hotel is perfect. But the rooms are very old, the bathroom is nothing like the photos. Host was kind enough to let us check-in before the time.
Alisson E — Google review
Cozy motel in the center of Nafplio old city. The location is the best thing about this motel. It couldn't get any central than this. From our balcony we could see both the fortress walls as well as the Acronafplia castle. It might be a bit loud, especially on a Friday and Saturday night, as there are bars and restaurants on the main street under the room, but you cannot get a central location without a bit of noise. The room was small but had everything we needed and it was very cute, nicely decorated and alluding to an older more romantic style (personally i think it fits perfectly the architecture of the building and of the city). They cleaned the room daily plus bringing us clean towels. The owner was very helpful and explained to me a lot regarding the route we wanted to follow to go to the south of Monemvasia.

Very friendly staff, easy access to the town, quiet and very comfortable. Homemade breakfast is served on the outer terrace with a view over the whole town. When we had trouble finding the exact entrance to the pension, the staff was very helpful. The room has an air-con for the coolish/hot outside weather. The pension is situated at half-way up the moutain and therefore very quiet. You gain access to the town via stairs that lead down. We enjoyed our stay a lot:)
Ortrun S — Google review
Absolutely terrible customer service! I reserved a room through Booking.com at the pension over a month in advanced. When it came to paying (about a week before my stay), there was an issue on their end taking the payment with my credit card, so I was asked by Booking.com update my details, and I separately sent them an email to explain. They ignored my email and cancelled my booking without even trying my new card details! Also during this time I had called them six times, and only twice did they pick up, and only once were they actually in the office and able to help. After they cancelled, I emailed to ask them to reserve my room/try my card again/organise something else, and they asked me to book again through the website—but they put their prices up! When I asked queried them about this, they said (in so many words) it was my problem. Needless to say, I've booked somewhere else.... I can't comment on the rooms or on the location, but I suggest you check out the other reviews. It seems like the photos they provide are extremely misleading, and that most of the rooms are much less nice. If this is indeed the case, then with dodgy practices like that, it bears the question why it was my credit card that was rejected—perhaps they are trying to avoid reverse-payments? But this is just speculation and ought to be taken with a large grain of salt.

Holiday apartment
Old Town Nafplio is a delightful destination that captures the essence of Greek charm. Nestled within its picturesque alleys, visitors can find beautifully decorated apartments that blend traditional aesthetics with modern comforts. Just a short stroll from the port and Syntagma Square, these accommodations offer a warm and inviting atmosphere, ensuring guests feel right at home. The cleanliness and comfort of the spaces are commendable, featuring cozy beds and essential amenities like air conditioning and WiFi.
(Translated by Google) The apartment in old Nafplio was truly wonderful! Its location is ideal, in the picturesque alleys of the old town, just a few minutes from the port and Syntagma Square. The space is tastefully decorated, combining traditional elements with all modern comforts. The bed was very comfortable, the apartment was spotlessly clean and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The host was excellent, always available to help and suggest beautiful places to eat and walk. It is definitely an accommodation that I will prefer again on a future visit to Nafplio and I highly recommend it to those who want to experience the authentic atmosphere of the city. The Fortress of Akronauplia, also known as "Its Kale," is a historic moated fortress located on a rocky peninsula in Nafplio, Greece. It has a rich history dating back to ancient times and has been influenced by various civilizations including the Romans, Venetians, Byzantines, Franks, and Ottomans. The fortress offers lift access and stands as the oldest fortification in Nafplio.
Interesting ruins of a castle, church, garrison, etc. Free to wander at one's own pace. A few informational markets along the way. Excellent views of the town, bay, and region. No services on site but restaurants nearby. This is not the castle with all of the steps. It is uphill, but a relatively easy walk on pavement the entire way. Not crowded.
Joan C — Google review
Easy walk from Napflio, fine old remains of buildings. Be aware where you walk though as it seems it is not maintained. Free entrance. Fantastic views from there
Christine R — Google review
You need to walk this old castle. You will meet some cute cats and have an astonishing view and if you time it good an amazing sunset.
Theo M — Google review
Nice site to roam around the ruins for free with nice sea view. Easy walk down to the beach too with as usual lots of cats and kittens, some coming for cuddles.
Laurent L — Google review
Any visitor to Nafplion should not miss the breathtaking views from the Acronafplia castle. One should walk up the stairs from the centre of Nafplion and take a 20-minute walk up to the hill. The view will compensate the effort!
Stamatios T — Google review
After the tough climb up to this fortress from the old town below, we were a little underwhelmed. Not much of antiquity interest when you get there, but the views are great.
Peter T — Google review
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Acronauplia Fortress in Nafplio is a captivating relic that drew my wife, children, and me into its storied embrace. We wandered its ancient ramparts, tracing the footsteps of Byzantines, Venetians, and Ottomans across weathered stone. Scaling low walls, we felt like scholars unearthing secrets, while the kids imagined themselves as intrepid adventurers. From sheer cliff edges, we gazed at beachgoers below, mere specks against the Argolic Gulf’s turquoise expanse, glinting under a relentless sun. Nafplio’s Old Town, with its terracotta roofs, sprawled beneath us—a living canvas of history’s endurance. Standing under the famed clock tower as it tolled, the resonant chime seemed to summon ghosts of empires past, leaving my ears ringing with their echo. The heat tested our resolve, but the breeze off the sea and the fortress’s grandeur kept us pressing on. My wife, our steady guide, ensured no one strayed too close to the edge. Acronauplia is no mere pile of stones; it’s a dialogue with time, offering panoramic vistas and whispers of ancient intrigues. Bring water, sturdy shoes, and an open mind—this fortress is a journey into the heart of history’s tenacity. (204 words)

Villa
Nafplia Palace Hotel & Villas is a luxurious 5-star property situated on Acronafplia Hill, offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and Bourtzi Castle. The hotel features sophisticated accommodations, including modern villas with private plunge pools and spacious balconies overlooking Nafplion and the Argolic Bay. While the main building may need refurbishment, the private villas offer a lavish experience.
This is truly a hidden gem. Views are perfect. Included breakfast overlooks the town…serene and peaceful location. Town comes alive with music at night. Surrounded by castles. Just lovely. Staff was very nice and always available to assist. Rooms were comfortable and clean. We enjoyed wine delivered to us by friendly staff on the balcony overlooking the room pool and shared waterfall pool while the town bustled below. It’s like staying in a castle. The builders paid great attention to detail. This is worth a visit if you enjoy relaxing outside the hustle and bustle of city life.
Kay S — Google review
This is a formerly 5-star hotel that is now doing its best on a limited budget. The room we had was incredible, but it was dated and had some noticeable wear and tear issues. For instance, the wood floors are scraped and scratched and clearly haven't been redone in years. The elevators are mostly out of service and half the hotel is closed down. Also, no wifi, which is weird in a place like Greece where you can get wifi in the middle of nowhere. On the other hand, the pools are amazing. The grounds are amazing. The view is incredible. The breakfast buffet every morning was one of the best I've ever had, especially since you eat it on the balcony over-looking the bay at Nafplio. Finally, the staff are very accommodating and fast about getting you what you need. So, this is like a 4-star hotel wearing it's old 5-star clothes from back when it was hot. Once you realize that you will have a great stay, even at the price, which is high. I really liked it and I'd go back if I do a return visit to Nafplio.
Dave T — Google review
My recent stay at this hotel was highly disappointing. The rooms were extremely dated and desperately in need of renovation. The shower barely worked, and there was no hot water most of the time. Moreover, several balcony lights were out, making it feel unsafe at night. To top it off, the main door lock was broken, leaving our belongings vulnerable. The food was another letdown; it was mediocre at best, and breakfast was outright terrible. The only redeeming aspect of this establishment was the staff, who were friendly and did their best to assist us. In conclusion, this hotel is severely outdated and neglected. It urgently requires a comprehensive update and better maintenance. Given the current condition, it is definitely not worth the money.
Stratis N — Google review
An absolutely stunning location, almost within the grounds of the ancient fortifications. The hotel is set on a hill overlooking the old town and the waterfront, offering breathtaking views. There is even an elevator that takes you directly down to the old town, making it very easy to get around. The hotel also has its own parking, which is very convenient. We were upgraded to a room with a private pool, which was a wonderful bonus during the hot days of our trip. The room was spacious, with a huge bathroom featuring a freestanding bathtub and a large shower. There was also a jacuzzi, although unfortunately, it wasn’t working during our stay. The room included a bidet toilet, plenty of towels, including beach towels, a comfortable bed, and good quality linens. Everything was very clean. The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi in the room, but we were informed this was a temporary issue. It’s also worth noting that the hotel is a bit old, with rooms full of technology that was modern 10 years ago, and not everything works perfectly. However, this did not spoil our overall impression. Breakfast was decent, and the restaurant offers a spectacular view while you eat. Overall, we definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Nafplio.

Gorgeous view! Friendly service. Nice spacious rooms, comfortable beds. breakfast buffet with variety and option to order eggs a la carte. Nice swimming pools.
Vasiliki G — Google review
This is the worst hotel I have stayed in in my entire life. It is a complete wreck. Leaking corridors, dead plants, plastic chairs, an entire building abandoned, a garage filled with graffiti, a restaurant that smells like raw sewage and, naturally, NO GUESTS! We checked out after a sleepless night. It was a disgusting experience.
George C — Google review
We just completed five days at Nafplia Palace. My wife visited the hotel 12 years ago and remembered it fondly so she booked us here. Upon arrival, we were confused because the main lobby is shut down. A wonderful staff member named Giannis came and assisted us. Everything written about the hotel being dated, feeling desolate, lacking WiFi, and like a shell of its former self is true. We enjoyed our experience nonetheless. When we book hotels we look for places that are not massive chains. We always try to support local business. Therefore we don’t have grand expectations like we would if staying at a Four Seasons. Nafplia Palace was great to us. We would stay again. Perched on the mountain, it was great to overlook the former capital of Greece and enjoy some serenity away from the nightlife. We had a stroller for a baby and the lift worked fine. It made it easy to visit the town and when we were done we’d retreat to our sanctuary. Unfortunately, based upon reviews and our experience it does appear as though the current ownership group is not interested in updates to the rooms or property. The staff do the best they can with what they are given. Many of the staff are locals, born and raised. If you want Four Seasons, book that. If you want a quiet secluded room perfect for unplugging for a few days, Napflia Palace is great. We hope when we return to the town this hotel is still an option.
RJ C — Google review
Quick summary is : absolutely gorgeous view and prime location but hotel need updates and some attention. We stayed over a week there and we never once got over the view, from the room, the pool or restaurant you are in awe of the view at anytime. Unfortunately the rooms are outdated, the bed sucks, furniture and appliances are old and all the light switches are extremely confusing. And worst thing for us was the wifi NOT working. Spoke to reception multiple times about this but they didn’t resolve it or really try to fix it. But all of the employees and people working there are amazing. Super nice, friendly and smiling, they really made the stay even more enjoyable. They were all great. Lastly the biggest attribute this hotel over other places nearby is the elevator to the city. Otherwise the walk would be near impossible to go have dinner or drink in the town. That being said i believe it’s crucial for them to have the elevator working and while there only 1 out of 3 worked. From past review we see it’s been like this for a while. Hope they fix them soon.

Nestled just a short drive from the charming Old Town of Nafplio, Anthemion Suites and Villas is a delightful family boutique retreat surrounded by lush gardens and olive groves. This polished hotel features beautifully designed accommodations that evoke the warmth of a Greek countryside home, with options ranging from cozy doubles to spacious family lofts. Guests can indulge in a refreshing dip in the seasonal heated pool or unwind at the snack bar while enjoying stunning views of nature.
We were sad to leave Anthemion as we had the best imaginable stay in Nafplio! The food is absolutely stunning, both at breakfast and from the restaurant menu - both in variety and flavour. Our private balcony felt secluded, although we were literally seconds from the beautiful pool and bar area. Most of all, the staff make the place so special. It was great value for money for the standard of service alone. We would not hesitate for one second to stay at Anthemion again.

A small, family-run boutique hotel, very well-maintained and kept in excellent condition. The staff, especially the reception girls, were super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The rooms are clean and spacious, and everything looks new and well-maintained. We will definitely come back here in the future!

After a few busy weeks of traveling, it was wonderful to arrive at the Anthemion! We stayed in the villa with our own private patio and hot tub (Actually, a perfect cool tub on hot afternoons). The room was beautiful, private, and very quiet. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect with a short drive to great beaches and small towns along the bay. We’ll definitely stay there again. Our only complaint was that the dinner we had there on our first night was very pricey compared to the restaurants in town and in the other villages nearby and was honestly not nearly as good.

Great place to stay when visiting Nafplio. It's a short 15 minute walk to the old town and many ships and restaurants. But, it's away from the hustle and bustle of the city up a quiet road. Beautiful pool area to relax. Friendly staff. Clean and updated rooms. Would recommend!!

We had the most amazing stay at Anthemion Suites. We are checking out and so sad to leave. Just 5 minutes outside of town, so you’ll need a car unless you like to walk :). The rooms were extremely clean and we were surprised by the size! The people are so friendly and food was honestly the best we had in all of Nafplio!!! The breakfast every morning was such a treat. If you want a peaceful, tranquil place to stay, this is your place.

Great stay overall: beautiful rooms, nice pool. Excellent breakfast. However, there was a kitchenette in the suite, but nothing was provided in it apart from the cutlery. We asked for a pan, but they would not lend us one. Then we asked if they could cook the piece of meat bought beforehand for our lunch, but they refused. Such a bad move for a high-end hotel.

Althaia Pension offers warmly decorated rooms, some featuring balconies, and complimentary Wi-Fi in a city center location. The hotel is situated in the heart of Nafplio, within walking distance of charming alleys, grocery stores, and shops. While there are some steps on the property, the staff strives to make guests feel at home and provides assistance with directions and recommendations for local attractions. Additionally, guests can enjoy inclusive breakfast at Kalimera located beneath the pension.
My husband and I came to Nafplio for our honeymoon and we had the best experience ever. The room is super cute and located perfectly in the center of town. About 3 blocks from the beach and just outside the main square. The pension was super kind, clean and hospitable. They gave us great recommendations in town and we had amazing breakfasts that were included in our stay. I 100% recommend staying here if you’re looking to have a romantic or family friendly stay.
Elle T — Google review
The pension is across a loud music bar that is open until 3.00 AM everyday. (Check location and opening hours on Google maps). The bar is popular so not only can one hear the music but also the loud conversations and voices. The synthetic perfume heavily and continuously sprayed in the entrance and stairway is uncomfortable. This is likely to cover a humidity smell. The pension is otherwise clean. The lady and gentleman at reception are welcoming, helpful and professional.
Laure R — Google review
Beautiful and unique place to stay in Nafplio! We were kindly greeted upon our arrival, and the check in process was very informative. We felt right at home. When you arrive, there is a little alley to walk down with a door to reception on your left. The "alley" has a couple tables and bicycles. The rooms are clean, and very uniquely decorated. We had a lovely balcony to view the streets below. Instant coffee is included in the room, along with breakfast in the morning. Breakfast is around the corner, in a different building. This is an excellent place to stay, and such a great location! Highly recommend staying here if you find yourself in Nafplio!
Rachel D — Google review
One of the nicest host on our trip in peloponisos. Beautiful room in the heart of the old town. Very affordable and clean. The one thing that bothered was the loud music playing just outside from a nearby bar. If you are a person that has problems with loud music trying to sleep, maybe reconsider the place to sleep..
Jannis K — Google review
We booked the Althaia Pension, and when we first got there we had to go to reception which was half way up a staircase in a tiny room which got us a bit worried, but this all changed when they showed us our room. A beautiful old building where we had a nice big bedroom, sitting area, and bathroom. Staff was friendly, and they have great breakfast for only 6,5 per person on the side of the building. Highly recommended.
Yan T — Google review
The rooms are clean! The location is perfect, right in the heart of Nafplio and walking distance from the amazing alleys and groceries and stores. It has some steps, so beware if you are pregnant, elder or need a place for wheel chair access. But they make you feel like home! They will be there for anything you need, including directions or suggestions for places to go. Under the pension is a place for breakfast, kalimera (goodmorning), that if you stay at althaia you have it included. And Oh My Lord ! So friendly people and so good breakfast that Kalimera was the most appropriate name for it! I will definitely send more people there!
George K — Google review
Breakfast here has the best value for money as others mention too. The location is spot on! You're only 7 minutes away from the beach. Yet you're located right at the shopping district. The staff here are genuinely good people and you can feel that they are motivated and want you to have a nice experience. Lastly, their roof garden at night will give you something that even the best hotels can't match.

Greek Orthodox church
When visiting Nafplio, take some time to explore the St. George Holy Orthodox Metropolitan Church, a local Greek Orthodox worship site. Located at the end of the shopping strip, it offers a peaceful retreat for weary travelers. Despite its dark interior and ongoing renovations, the church's beauty and spirituality shine through. Visitors can learn about its history through multilingual leaflets available for a small donation and admire intriguing icons depicting saints.
One of the oldest churches in town.. inside they are ready to make renovations, so you won't be able to see clearly all the things.. but you can see the famous da Vinci painting with the Christ and His students as a copy.. you can see the original throne of Othon.. and a very gentle priest that can easily say you all the story of this historic church...
Antonis M — Google review
Beautiful church inside. Currently it has a lot of scaffolding inside obstructing viewing. Outside, the building has interesting form of rectangle, which isunusual for orthodox churches.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” This is a great place for a stop when you’re tired and exhausted after all those walking around Nafplio. It’s located at the end of all the shopping strip and once you’re recharged, you can go ahead with your journey.

Although the interior was covered with scaffolding, one could feel the spirituality of this beautiful church.

The church is quite beautiful, and for a small donation you can pick up a leaflet (in many languages) about its history. Some of the icons (paintings of saints) are very interesting too, although the church is usually too dark to fully appreciate them.

There is not a big variery of old trains (just two of them) but anyway, they are nice ones, as well as the park that they are located.

Historical landmark
Nestled at the intersection of Konstantinou and Velini streets, you'll find a remarkable piece of history: the first pharmacy in Greece, known as "Sotir." This neoclassical gem was established between 1828 and 1865 by pharmacist Bonifaccio Bonafin. Not only did it serve as a pioneering pharmacy, but it also played a significant role in preserving the remains of Ioannis Kapodistrias, an important figure in Greek history.
Great help and understanding of the problem. And very good in English

Nestled in the heart of Nafplio, MASTER ROSE STUDIO offers an enchanting escape in the picturesque Old Town. This charming area is a delightful maze of narrow streets and pedestrian lanes, brimming with quaint shops, inviting taverns, and captivating sights. Visitors can explore historical gems like Palamidi Castle and Akronafplio while enjoying refreshing swims in the Aegean Sea.
Absolutely perfect place to visit Nafplio. Heart of the old town, warm host, lovely accommodations. Would have loved to stay longer.

This place is wonderful. Small but very comfortable in a fairly quiet area. Bed is queen size and comfortable. Shower is great. Owner is responsive and easy to work with. She has provided many elements to make the stay great including coffee, oil for cooking, spices and laundry soap for the washing machine. This place is great for getting around the historic district. It's so close to everything. Know that every place south of Staikopoulou is going uphill and fairly steeply. You will need to be able to walk up stairs. Worth it though and enjoyed our stay here in the studio apartment.

The Holy Monastery of Agia Marina Argos, located just 3 kilometers from Nafplion, is a beautiful 12th-century monastery dedicated to the source of life. Nestled next to a natural spring, it operates as a nunnery and offers spiritual fulfillment to faithful visitors. The monastery's unique architecture includes a temple, pronaus, and mansion designed to accommodate pilgrims during Sunday services.
