Vale da Lua, also known as Moon Valley, is a renowned tourist spot in Chapada dos Veadeiros. The landscape resembles the lunar surface with its unique rock formations sculpted by the erosive power of the Sao Miguel River over millions of years. Visitors can explore corridors and cauldrons created by the rushing river, offering swimming holes, wells, caves, and crevices to discover.

Andrew M — Google review
After thoroughly researching the waterfalls and trails in Chapada dos Veadeiros, I was genuinely torn about whether or not to visit Vale da Lua. It’s one of the most talked-about spots in the region, and naturally, expectations were high. However, I left with mixed feelings. While the rock formations shaped over millennia are visually striking, the overall visitor experience left much to be desired — especially considering the entrance fee, which is relatively high for what is offered. What many travelers might not know beforehand is that several natural attractions in the region, including Vale da Lua, are located on private land. That alone isn’t necessarily a problem — as long as the management offers value in return. In this case, however, there is virtually no infrastructure, no educational or environmental interpretation, and no visible oversight or preservation efforts at the site. The trail is short and accessible, but beyond the views, there’s little to enhance the experience or justify the cost. Nature in its purest form is priceless, and while it’s understandable that maintenance comes at a cost, visitors deserve more than just access — they deserve care, information, and basic facilities that protect both them and the environment. Sadly, I saw no trash bins, no guides, and no clear signage. If you’re seeking a more meaningful connection with nature, I recommend exploring the many free or lower-cost trails in the area. These often provide not only richer immersion but also more solitude and authenticity, far from the “Instagram-only” experiences. Chapada dos Veadeiros is full of incredible natural beauty — you just have to know where to look beyond the hype.
Pedro C — Google review
Nothing special. Crowded and way to expensive for what it is. After 20 minutes I was out. It's more for people who like an Instagram photo and don't like to hike. If you are a hiker, there are way more prettier things to see! I was so disappointed
Nell R — Google review
This is the closest I'll ever get to being on the moon without actually being there 😆. The natural rock formations is stunning and lots of opportunities for cool pictures. There are crevices/caves in the water area that are cool to explore if you have a tour guide or someone that knows where to go. It can be quite claustrophobic/scary if you're not comfortable with enclosed spaces and/or swimming.
Leanna C — Google review
40 real for entrance in low season, but only pix or cash . Pretty short trail but very interesting and unusual. It is really like the moon surface
Igor D — Google review
This place is very unique and strongly recommended for a special experience. This is so different from most places I've seen! The rock formation, the color, and the scenery are breathtaking! 40 reas to enter! Hitchhiking is very easy in this city, even from Alto Paraiso. It took me 5 min to hop in a ride as there is no bus transportation (i heard of one but everyone Hitchhikes). Taxi can be costly there. Every fall cost 40 reas, including the 3 or 4 miradors. So, be ready to spend to access these places. I preferred Salto Curumbo (south of Brasilia as it had 5 amazing waterfalls, a waterpark, and 3 swimming pool for 65 reas). See and follow my other reviews for pics.
Antoine A — Google review
Crazy moon landscape with canyons, pools and unbelievable rocks. Be careful of the weather because the zone is subjected to sudden and violent floods. Trust local people indication and respect the limits. Enjoy and wander in this wonderful place!

Small, but pretty place with peculiar rock formations and a river that forms nice baths. Mild trails present a beginner level tracking challenge making the visit suitable for children as well as adults.

Cachoeira Dos Cristais is a stunning waterfall located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. The falls are known for their rushing waterfalls and lush greenery, making it an excellent tourist attraction. The trill of the waterfall can be heard from a great distance, making this an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature.
So many beautiful places in Brazil and this is up with the best. Fair bit of walking and stunning pools and waterfalls to swim in. If lucky there are amazingly friendly little monkeys wanting a piece of your apple!! Simply wonderful.
Smax 3 — Google review
I still don't understand why in Brazil people charge money for the waterfall. At least go to both( even if they will tell you that you need a guide, it is super easy , only 35 minutes to água Frio , and it is not that cold 🤣?
Igor D — Google review
Very nice place, good food, waterfalls even better ;) i saw they have very good sound system in this place but had no occasion to check it :)
Dwaraz — Google review
Nice place with a restaurant and shop. Pleasant walk down the river passing many small waterfalls, steep descent in a few parts. Largest waterfall at the bottom with a swimming pool. Lunch was good and reasonably priced. As with other places half price for oldies. Quite busy but was the weekend. There is a longer harder walk to another waterfall that we did not do.
Paul D — Google review
The waterfalls and the trail down are absolutely fantastic here. Unfortunately, the place has become a bit massive with large sound systems and a big restaurant. Overall, the waterfalls are fantastic and the price is fairly reasonable for what you get. Definitely recommend it to anyone in the Chapada dos veadeiros.

Fantastic place to visit in family. There is a very good camping area. The waterfalls are safety for children.
Aluisio J — Google review
An amazing and beautiful place for hikes and trails and waterfall baths. The scenery and the nature are breathtaking.
Luiz F — Google review
Great place, has good structure with a restaurant and bathrooms before you set out on the trail. The trail itself is a little tough, especially on the way back up. Everywhere you turn there is a different waterfall with little secrets further down the path. The star waterfall is at the very bottom, and is worth the hike, but there are many waterfalls along the way for those who aren't afraid to explore a bit! Bring good shoes! A great place to spend the whole day.

Camping das Sete Quedas is a perfect spot for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. The campground offers a rustic experience with no electricity, providing a covered space with tables and dry bathrooms. Campers can set up near the river, which has drinkable water, but are reminded to keep the area clean. The location also serves as a starting point for an excellent trail that leads to the beautiful Chapada dos Veadeiros.

It is very good for taking a shower, with shallow and deep areas. (Translated by Google) Excellent trail, despite being difficult. It requires planning, leadership and lots of water/chlorine. The campsite is on the banks of the Rio Preto, and it was the second most enjoyable swim of my life. The campsite has tables and a roof for meals and two dry toilets (I had never used them, but I managed and survived walking alone at night in the woods). The Sete Quedas (waterfall) is literally next to the campsite. I recommend booking two overnight stays, so you can have a full day of fun, as the trail is quite challenging. On the way there, it is 17 km and on the way back, it is a 3 km climb, and then another 3 km straight. BOOK IN ADVANCE as the trail is popular and there are only 40 overnight/day tickets. Best trip/camping destination near BSB to date (09/2023).

Expensive (70 Reais) and they don’t take cards, just Pix, which for tourists is very difficult to get without CPF and Brazilian bank account. Glad I had some cash with me. The nature there is nice. Good for families because of the wooden walkways. I prefer real trails though, so I recommend Cachoeiras dos Cristais and Águas Frias, they are more beautiful with less people and much cheaper (40 Reais).
Peffan B — Google review
I would like to see the falls and pools when there’s more water. It’s dry season. Beautiful, though.
Slang 4 — Google review
The great infrastructure and the boardwalk make the pools well accessible. There are to walks leading to a waterfall with many pools on the way. Each trail is about 1km long. The entrance fee of R$50 a person is fair. We were just a bit disappointed as most of the pools were very low, only one pool was deep and blue as we imagined. Consequently many people stayed at this pool which didn’t make it enjoyable. I recommend only coming after a few weeks of rain.

Everyone knows it as a great place to watch the sunset. It is that, but not good for much else. And I have to wonder if just stopping at some other random spot along the road would offer comparable views of the sunset. Having said that, the night I was there (unremarkable evening in July) there was a crowd of 30-40 people there, all gathered just to watch the sunset. Kinda fun and heartwarming to gather for such a simple and rarely celebrated event.
David E — Google review
You can just stop your car at some random place along the road and it would be the same thing. There is nothing special here. The sunset and the Morro da Baleia view are beautiful, but you could get the same view from hundreds of different places in the area.

(Translated by Google) We went in a group of two adults and two children aged 12 and 10 on 06/14/25. R$35.00 for parking for the whole day in the sun, without shade. We arrived at 8:40 am and left at 4 pm. We did the yellow trail in 7 hours. The park reception gave a quick explanation of the park (less than 5 minutes). We enjoyed every moment of the trail. The viewpoint is nice, the Saltos waterfalls are great for swimming (there are some very deep spots), very beautiful and impressive. We swam, took pictures and enjoyed some time there to contemplate the beauty of the place that cannot be captured in photos. Continuing the trail, we arrived at the rapids where you can also enjoy the water, but there are many rocks, some very slippery. Be careful not to hurt yourself. You can take good pictures here. We spent more than an hour at this point. To return, there are some walkways. Throughout the yellow trail, I felt that the route was very easy, with only one moment of greater incline/uphill. A nice, easy trail. The trip was worth it, the kids had fun and we came back with more than 400 photos. A very pleasant trip. It's good that we didn't see any trash on the ground. There are few shaded spots along the trail. Much of it is in the sun. Use sunscreen. Boa parte dela é no sol. Use protetor solar.

The trail to get there is long and rugged, so if you don't have the physical stamina it's best not to risk it. Although the park has a van service for people with problems. Another point is to take water and food because it's very sunny and you get dehydrated easily. There are a lot of rocks inside the rapids, so you have to be careful too. The place is very pleasant. The water is clean and, for the most part, quite shallow, allowing access for everyone, including children. For people with special needs, the elderly, or children under 2 years old, the park allows entry by car (it needs to be a 4x4), and this way you can get to within about 200 meters of the river. These final 200 meters are covered via a walkway, allowing access for wheelchair users. It's worth going! Cachoeira do Garimpão or Salto 80 is a moderate trail located in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Goias, perfect for hiking enthusiasts. The route starts with an informative video at the Tourist Service Center and is marked by yellow arrows throughout the park. Although challenging with steep climbs and descents, reaching the waterfall at the end of the trail is rewarding.
Extremely beautiful. National park.

The weather is pretty hot during the day. So bring a lot of water and sun protection. You can buy the ticket on the website of the national park. There are several trails sharing the same trailhead and you only need to buy one entrance for R$40. The view is nice although the mirante da Janela has better view. You can swim in the pool under the waterfall, so remember to bring swimming suits and towels. The trail is not hard but can be tiring for beginners. But there are transportation provided by the park with a fee which can save you some energy. They also sell snacks and drinks at the station and the coconut water is pretty nice

Hiking area
Mirante da Janela - Bilheteria is part of the Caminho dos Veadeiros, a trail inspired by famous routes like the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. It can be hiked in its entirety over 15 to 20 days or in smaller sections for weekend getaways. The landscape is described as incredibly beautiful and magical, but the trail itself is challenging, requiring physical preparation and plenty of water and snacks. The entry fee was R$40.
(Translated by Google) The trail is difficult, the signage is not as good as they say it is, but it is still intuitive. I do not recommend it for those who are not physically fit and also for very young children. The trail takes about 80 minutes each way. The entrance fee was 50 reais and a guide is not necessary. The view is sensational!! It is worth the hike, a unique experience that is definitely worth a visit and should not be left out of your itinerary. (Translated by Google) The view from the lookout is beautiful! However, it's a rocky, fairly steep trail, moderate to difficult. At a reasonable pace, the hike to the lookout takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. The best time to climb is during the rainy season, until around March, when you'll stop to cool off at the Abyss waterfall (the only point with water). 3:30 hours is enough to hike the trail there and back, film videos, and take photos at the main points. The trail isn't marked as advertised at the entrance; there are several sections, such as the stairs, that lack handrails, some are broken, exposed screws, and several other obstacles. So be very careful when crossing to avoid injury and ruin your trip! The view from the lookout overlooks the waterfalls of Saltos 120 and 80, located within Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. Extra tip: If you want to see the waterfalls, take the park's yellow trail! It's worth the trip! The Chapada is breathtaking! Vale a pena o passeio! A Chapada é deslumbrante!!

(Translated by Google) The trail to the viewpoint is challenging, so it is not recommended for children. It is essential to be careful and avoid unnecessary risks, such as trying to reach the edge of the rock to take photos — this can be extremely dangerous. If you fall, the consequences can be serious. Although the trail signs are not perfect, the path is relatively intuitive, with some signs along the way. It is recommended to bring plenty of water, as the effort can be intense, especially on hot days. There are two waterfalls on the trail that, apparently, only appear during the rainy season. At the reception, visitors have access to a bathroom and water, which offers greater convenience to start and end the adventure. The landscape is worth it. One of the most beautiful views I have ever seen! It was a pain to choose what to do, because everything we ordered was no longer on the menu, it was easier to just say what was on the menu. We ordered 5 burgers (4 medium and one medium rare) and two dishes. The 4 burgers arrived, all burnt, without any mayonnaise or sauce, and they were all very well done. To make matters worse, when we were finishing eating, the rest of the food hadn't arrived yet and our friends were hungry, the waitress came to tell us that the 5th burger wouldn't arrive because it was gone. Didn't they realize this when they started making the other 4? Besides, all the orders have to arrive at the same time. We saw her delivering this burger to someone else minutes before, so we can't decide if it was a mistake on her part or if it was on purpose because of our complaint. The beers were warm. The waitress' service was terrible at all times and the food was the worst we've ever had. As cervejas estavam quentes. (Translated by Google) Terrible service from all the staff! The place had everything it needed to be great: it has a great atmosphere, the food is good, and it's not that expensive. However, the service was the worst I've experienced in months. 1. If we hadn't gone to get the menu, no one would have come to serve us (even after we called, and we saw this happen to several customers there). 2. Of the four dish options on the lunch menu, only one was available (?). We ordered a can of Coke, and the waitress didn't bring it with our food. We asked again, and she brought it, but only with a cup (there were two of us). My husband asked for a second cup, and she just turned her back; the cup never came. 3-To top it off, when it was time to pay, the woman (who appeared to be the owner) was outraged because we paid with cash and she didn't have change, so she had to let us have 1 real and 20 cents. LOL. Our bill came to R$101.20, and my husband gave her a 100-real note and a 5-real note. So, she had to let us have 1.20 for lack of change, but not without complaining A LOT to us first. It seems ridiculous that someone would insist on 1 real, but it's okay. Anyway, terrible!!!!!!! The atmosphere is deceiving, but the service is the worst of all, and from all the employees.

(Translated by Google) Horrible experience. It's much better to eat in Alto Paraíso or São Jorge. My girlfriend and I left the waterfall hungry, and when we arrived at the restaurant, we'd only been there for two months, so we figured it wouldn't take long. We ordered mungunzá and galinhada. Half an hour later, we noticed other customers who arrived later were being served before us. At one point, the woman working there took our plates to another table, who immediately replied (and we heard): "We didn't order that." Instead of apologizing to the family at the table and correcting the order, she kept insisting that they accept ours. Meanwhile, we kept calling her and the other man working there to let them know it was our order, and we were ignored. When they finally realized they'd made a mistake and switched our orders, there was no apology, just a "calm down, lady, it's not that bad," in the most sexist way possible. We spoke politely and in a low voice, but even so, we had to put up with a kid talking like that to two women; it was the end of the line. Oh! And what about the food? Two plates of rice that were surely already prepared, but still took forever to arrive. Each cost almost R$50. In short, a place to rip off tourists. The little one would be much better off going down to São Jorge or returning to Alto Paraíso and eating with the dignity and care that so many restaurants treat those passing through Chapada. Ah! E quanto a comida?

Cachoeira Raizama is a must-visit spot in Chapada Veadeiros, easily accessible from Sao Jorge. The area offers a variety of attractions including the Vale da Lua, Cachoeira do Segredo trail, Cachoeiras Almecegas and II, Cachoeira Sao Bento, and Cachoeira Morada do Sol.
There is a really cool path to walk through the property with some interesting falls and viewpoints. The place has a pretty artsy vibe which I found to be quite distinct. There is a nice swimming area as well.

Dangerous place with no proper precaution or safety we lost someone we love very much here who was taken by the waters. He was not guided or warned about specific areas. His death was tragic and this place deserves to be permanently closed. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE!
Jerry J — Google review
2 days ago my friend went missing at this waterfall and he still hasn't been found yet... Google search "Raul Jimenez missing in Brazil" for details. Long story short, he and a couple of friends visited this specific waterfall and while they were there a flash flood came and swept Raul into the river. The others were rescued, but there is a nationwide search & rescue effort to find Raul asap. They have drones, divers, dogs, helicopters, and experts who are repelling that canyon in search of him, but he's yet to be found. Beware at this waterfall, do your research & find out what the recent rainfall was up-river of this spot if you ever decide to visit this waterfall so that you don't go there when flash flood conditions are possible. They had 1-3inches of water, easy to walk, until the flash flood hit and the water level immediately went up to their shoulders in seconds. At first, Raul found safety on higher ground for a few moments but the water level kept rising and eventually he had nothing left to hold onto, and got swept into the river by the raging current. His friend hung onto a rock for 6hrs before he was rescued at 11pm. Again, do your research and please be cautious....and possibly consider going to a different waterfall instead!

AVIOD AT ALL COSTS It’s not worth your life. A DEATH TRAP My best friend had a tragic death here that could of been prevented if this place was safe and secure. There is no information or security here for your safety. No near by ambulances, firefighters or anyone that can come and help you if you get seriously hurt. My bestfriend was swepted away by a flood of water. There were no signs to give him any warning or guide. By far the worst place to visit due to lack of transparency and accountability. We also discovered other people have died here prior. Not to mention when you get there it is so poorly managed and disorganized, things look super creepy and abandoned. This place deserves 0 stars and needs to be permanently closed!

Almécegas II Waterfall is a popular and easily accessible attraction in Chapada dos Veadeiros, located between Alto Paraíso and the village of São Jorge. The hike to reach it may be long and demanding, with steep sections and high stone stairs, but the effort is rewarded with an epic view of the waterfall. Visitors can swim in the paradise-like setting at the base of the waterfall or take a smaller trail to reach its top for a breathtaking view from above.
I would recomend you visit - swimming above and below the falls is an option. Beautiful place.
Andrew M — Google review
It is a beautiful waterfall with easy access, but if you want to enjoy more you should visit during the dry season from June to October. As it was November there was a lot of rain making it impossible to relax in the waters. Nevertheless it was an amazing sight to see.
Gabi M — Google review
Recommend it a 100%. The entrance price of 70R$ per person might sound a bit expensive at first, but if you visit all 3 waterfalls and spend a bit of time just enjoying nature, it is totally worth it. We went on a Monday morning and there was literally no one there! This one is much smaller then almecegas 1, but it's a nice one to swim!

Embarking on a journey to São Bento Waterfall is an adventure that begins in Brasília, located approximately 250 km away. Travelers will navigate the scenic BR 020 towards Formosa and then take the GO 118 toward Alto Paraíso, passing through charming towns like São Gabriel and São João D'Alianca. After reaching Povoado de São Jorge, visitors can easily access Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. Once at the park, exploring the stunning landscapes becomes effortless.
Breathtaking view! Worth paying a visit.

Really nice place, not much hiking, great bird life, wonderful plant life also, avoid weekends due to over crowding, tale water to drink and a sun hat. The water is cool, clear and refreshing. Footwear with good grip is advisable. this place is well worth a visit. The waterfalls are amazing.

Short drives and then a walk to two waterfalls. The first is about 1km and involves some steps and a short climb. First one was quite impressive with paths to a viewing platform and to the top of the fall. If you are waterfalled out by now you could skip the second one. A third one at the bottom with a large pool for swimming.

(Translated by Google) Visiting Fazenda São Bento was one of the highlights of our trip! The price of R$70 per person is super fair, and the best part is that they don't charge for children under 12, which makes a huge difference for families. There are three incredible waterfalls: Almécegas I, Almécegas II, and São Bento. I suggest starting with Almécegas II, as it was less crowded and allowed us to enjoy the tranquility. We spent most of our time at Almécegas I, which has great sun and shade options for relaxing. The kids loved it, and at the end of the day, the São Bento Waterfall, which looks like a natural pool, was the perfect way to end! A huge plus is the presence of lifeguards, which gave us a lot of confidence when enjoying it with the kids. The farm is about 20 minutes from the city and is very easy to access. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a fun and refreshing day out in nature, especially for a family trip!

They even made a surprise cake to celebrate my birthday. The inn is beautiful, rustic, with impeccable decor. It has a large, flowery garden, and the veranda is full of sofas and armchairs. At night they make a bonfire, and the guests gather around it to burn marshmallows under the stars. The rooms are spacious, with a mini-fridge, closet, queen-size bed, soft mattress, and plenty of blankets in case it gets cold. The bathroom is fully tiled, and the shower has a gas showerhead. Bed linens and towels are very white. Each room has a private balcony with a hammock and 2 armchairs. The internet is good. I was even able to work from there. The breakfast is complete with a variety of cakes, breads, and fruits. There are 3 juice options and scrambled eggs. Guests already have access to the 3 waterfalls on the farm: São Bento, Almecegas I and II. There is parking only for guests and another parking lot outside for visitors. It is 10 minutes from the center of Alto Paraíso city, and also from the Mirante do Alto viewpoint. Mirante da Janela is a must-visit trail in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, offering an incredible hiking experience. The route, starting at Mirante da Estrela, takes hikers through diverse landscapes including slopes, scrubland, stairs, and streams before reaching the iconic Mirante da Janela with its breathtaking views. A fee is required for entry, and having a local guide enhances the experience.
There is free parking at the trailhead. After around 10 min walking you will reach the gate where you pay R$40 for entrance. Credit card is not accepted. Only Pix or Cash. If you enter after 2pm a guide is required. The weather is pretty hot during the day, so bring enough water. The trail is well maintained and the view on the top is spectacular. You get a panoramic view of the valley and waterfalls. Personally I think this is the best trail in this national park. Also the sunset is very nice. So suggest you go in the afternoon and stay until the sunset. If you don't want to stay too late at the mirante, cachoeira-abismo at 1.8km is also a good point to view the sunset (that was where I did it)

(Translated by Google) I loved the easy trail and the delicious well to cool off. If you want to fit in a tour that requires little effort and time, it's well worth it. The place is beautiful and you can relax in different places, inside or outside the water. Even lie down for a nap or read! We went with a 2 month old baby and all the stuff that entails, and it was really cool for us and for him! (Original) Adorei a trilha fácil e o pocinho delicioso pra refrescar.

Located within Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, Salto I is a must-visit destination. You can reach it in two ways: by hiking for about 2 hours—which I highly recommend—or by taking a transfer that drops you just 20 minutes from the falls. The trail is rated moderate to difficult, but the reward is worth it—it’s truly one of the most breathtaking places in the world!!!! This waterfalls is also known as Salto do Rio Preto or Salto 120.
