Vale da Lua, also known as Moon Valley, is a renowned tourist spot in Chapada dos Veadeiros. The landscape resembles the lunar surface with its unique rock formations sculpted by the erosive power of the Sao Miguel River over millions of years. Visitors can explore corridors and cauldrons created by the rushing river, offering swimming holes, wells, caves, and crevices to discover.

After thoroughly researching the waterfalls and trails in Chapada dos Veadeiros, I was genuinely torn about whether or not to visit Vale da Lua. It’s one of the most talked-about spots in the region, and naturally, expectations were high. However, I left with mixed feelings. While the rock formations shaped over millennia are visually striking, the overall visitor experience left much to be desired — especially considering the entrance fee, which is relatively high for what is offered. What many travelers might not know beforehand is that several natural attractions in the region, including Vale da Lua, are located on private land. That alone isn’t necessarily a problem — as long as the management offers value in return. In this case, however, there is virtually no infrastructure, no educational or environmental interpretation, and no visible oversight or preservation efforts at the site. The trail is short and accessible, but beyond the views, there’s little to enhance the experience or justify the cost. Nature in its purest form is priceless, and while it’s understandable that maintenance comes at a cost, visitors deserve more than just access — they deserve care, information, and basic facilities that protect both them and the environment. Sadly, I saw no trash bins, no guides, and no clear signage. If you’re seeking a more meaningful connection with nature, I recommend exploring the many free or lower-cost trails in the area. These often provide not only richer immersion but also more solitude and authenticity, far from the “Instagram-only” experiences. Chapada dos Veadeiros is full of incredible natural beauty — you just have to know where to look beyond the hype.
Pedro C — Google review
Nothing special. Crowded and way to expensive for what it is. After 20 minutes I was out. It's more for people who like an Instagram photo and don't like to hike. If you are a hiker, there are way more prettier things to see! I was so disappointed
Nell R — Google review
This is the closest I'll ever get to being on the moon without actually being there 😆. The natural rock formations is stunning and lots of opportunities for cool pictures. There are crevices/caves in the water area that are cool to explore if you have a tour guide or someone that knows where to go. It can be quite claustrophobic/scary if you're not comfortable with enclosed spaces and/or swimming.
Leanna C — Google review
40 real for entrance in low season, but only pix or cash . Pretty short trail but very interesting and unusual. It is really like the moon surface
Igor D — Google review
This place is very unique and strongly recommended for a special experience. This is so different from most places I've seen! The rock formation, the color, and the scenery are breathtaking! 40 reas to enter! Hitchhiking is very easy in this city, even from Alto Paraiso. It took me 5 min to hop in a ride as there is no bus transportation (i heard of one but everyone Hitchhikes). Taxi can be costly there. Every fall cost 40 reas, including the 3 or 4 miradors. So, be ready to spend to access these places. I preferred Salto Curumbo (south of Brasilia as it had 5 amazing waterfalls, a waterpark, and 3 swimming pool for 65 reas). See and follow my other reviews for pics.

Crazy moon landscape with canyons, pools and unbelievable rocks. Be careful of the weather because the zone is subjected to sudden and violent floods. Trust local people indication and respect the limits. Enjoy and wander in this wonderful place!

Small, but pretty place with peculiar rock formations and a river that forms nice baths. Mild trails present a beginner level tracking challenge making the visit suitable for children as well as adults.

Corredeiras Trail, located in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Goias, is a popular route known for its breathtaking canyons, quartz crystal formations, and diverse wildlife. The trail begins at the visitor center and is marked with arrows to guide hikers along the path. After rainfall, the river takes on a brown hue, adding to the natural beauty of the area. Visitors also have the opportunity to swim in refreshing cold waters along this picturesque trail.
Great place to swim in cold water.

(Translated by Google) We went in a group of two adults and two children aged 12 and 10 on 06/14/25. R$35.00 for parking for the whole day in the sun, without shade. We arrived at 8:40 am and left at 4 pm. We did the yellow trail in 7 hours. The park reception gave a quick explanation of the park (less than 5 minutes). We enjoyed every moment of the trail. The viewpoint is nice, the Saltos waterfalls are great for swimming (there are some very deep spots), very beautiful and impressive. We swam, took pictures and enjoyed some time there to contemplate the beauty of the place that cannot be captured in photos. Continuing the trail, we arrived at the rapids where you can also enjoy the water, but there are many rocks, some very slippery. Be careful not to hurt yourself. You can take good pictures here. We spent more than an hour at this point. To return, there are some walkways. Throughout the yellow trail, I felt that the route was very easy, with only one moment of greater incline/uphill. A nice, easy trail. The trip was worth it, the kids had fun and we came back with more than 400 photos. A very pleasant trip. It's good that we didn't see any trash on the ground. There are few shaded spots along the trail. Much of it is in the sun. Use sunscreen. Boa parte dela é no sol. Use protetor solar.

(Translated by Google) I loved this place, the natural pools are an oasis after the long journey to get there. The trail to get there is long and rugged, so if you don't have the physical stamina it's best not to risk it. Although the park has a van service for people with problems. Another point is to take water and food because it's very sunny and you get dehydrated easily. There are a lot of rocks inside the rapids, so you have to be careful too. (Translated by Google) Starting from the entrance of the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, the trail to the rapids is 7km round trip (if you don't go on the other trails). The place is very pleasant. The water is clean and, for the most part, quite shallow, allowing access for everyone, including children. For people with special needs, the elderly, or children under 2 years old, the park allows entry by car (it needs to be a 4x4), and this way you can get to within about 200 meters of the river. These final 200 meters are covered via a walkway, allowing access for wheelchair users. It's worth going! Vale a pena ir!

Visitors can explore the Cachoeira dos Cristais trail, take a refreshing dip in the transparent waters of Cachoeiras Loquinhas, and enjoy a swim at Cachoeira Poco Encantado.
Close to city by car 15 -20 minute. Clean air clean river. Various places to take a nature bath. You can go with little children.

Expensive (70 Reais) and they don’t take cards, just Pix, which for tourists is very difficult to get without CPF and Brazilian bank account. Glad I had some cash with me. The nature there is nice. Good for families because of the wooden walkways. I prefer real trails though, so I recommend Cachoeiras dos Cristais and Águas Frias, they are more beautiful with less people and much cheaper (40 Reais).
Peffan B — Google review
I would like to see the falls and pools when there’s more water. It’s dry season. Beautiful, though.
Slang 4 — Google review
The great infrastructure and the boardwalk make the pools well accessible. There are to walks leading to a waterfall with many pools on the way. Each trail is about 1km long. The entrance fee of R$50 a person is fair. We were just a bit disappointed as most of the pools were very low, only one pool was deep and blue as we imagined. Consequently many people stayed at this pool which didn’t make it enjoyable. I recommend only coming after a few weeks of rain.

Almécegas II Waterfall is a popular and easily accessible attraction in Chapada dos Veadeiros, located between Alto Paraíso and the village of São Jorge. The hike to reach it may be long and demanding, with steep sections and high stone stairs, but the effort is rewarded with an epic view of the waterfall. Visitors can swim in the paradise-like setting at the base of the waterfall or take a smaller trail to reach its top for a breathtaking view from above.
I would recomend you visit - swimming above and below the falls is an option. Beautiful place.
Andrew M — Google review
It is a beautiful waterfall with easy access, but if you want to enjoy more you should visit during the dry season from June to October. As it was November there was a lot of rain making it impossible to relax in the waters. Nevertheless it was an amazing sight to see.
Gabi M — Google review
Recommend it a 100%. The entrance price of 70R$ per person might sound a bit expensive at first, but if you visit all 3 waterfalls and spend a bit of time just enjoying nature, it is totally worth it. We went on a Monday morning and there was literally no one there! This one is much smaller then almecegas 1, but it's a nice one to swim!

Mirante da Janela is a must-visit trail in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, offering an incredible hiking experience. The route, starting at Mirante da Estrela, takes hikers through diverse landscapes including slopes, scrubland, stairs, and streams before reaching the iconic Mirante da Janela with its breathtaking views. A fee is required for entry, and having a local guide enhances the experience.
There is free parking at the trailhead. After around 10 min walking you will reach the gate where you pay R$40 for entrance. Credit card is not accepted. Only Pix or Cash. If you enter after 2pm a guide is required. The weather is pretty hot during the day, so bring enough water. The trail is well maintained and the view on the top is spectacular. You get a panoramic view of the valley and waterfalls. Personally I think this is the best trail in this national park. Also the sunset is very nice. So suggest you go in the afternoon and stay until the sunset. If you don't want to stay too late at the mirante, cachoeira-abismo at 1.8km is also a good point to view the sunset (that was where I did it)
Meng L — Google review
Spectacular falls, I think the dry season made it more special. Challenging trek to the viewpoint and a stunning sunset to finish it off. <Chef’s Kiss>

Best view I've ever seen in the Chapada dos Veadeiros. The track is a little bit hard due to the inclination, but the view totally pays off all the effort. The round trip took me 2h30 and the guy at the entrance, where you have to pay 15 reais, is really sweet and always offers you coffee and water.

Hiking area
Mirante da Janela - Bilheteria is part of the Caminho dos Veadeiros, a trail inspired by famous routes like the Appalachian Trail and Pacific Crest Trail. It can be hiked in its entirety over 15 to 20 days or in smaller sections for weekend getaways. The landscape is described as incredibly beautiful and magical, but the trail itself is challenging, requiring physical preparation and plenty of water and snacks. The entry fee was R$40.
(Translated by Google) The trail is difficult, the signage is not as good as they say it is, but it is still intuitive. I do not recommend it for those who are not physically fit and also for very young children. The trail takes about 80 minutes each way. The entrance fee was 50 reais and a guide is not necessary. The view is sensational!! It is worth the hike, a unique experience that is definitely worth a visit and should not be left out of your itinerary. A vista é sensacional!!

(Translated by Google) The view from the lookout is beautiful! However, it's a rocky, fairly steep trail, moderate to difficult. At a reasonable pace, the hike to the lookout takes about 1 hour and 10 minutes. The best time to climb is during the rainy season, until around March, when you'll stop to cool off at the Abyss waterfall (the only point with water). 3:30 hours is enough to hike the trail there and back, film videos, and take photos at the main points. The trail isn't marked as advertised at the entrance; there are several sections, such as the stairs, that lack handrails, some are broken, exposed screws, and several other obstacles. So be very careful when crossing to avoid injury and ruin your trip! The view from the lookout overlooks the waterfalls of Saltos 120 and 80, located within Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. Extra tip: If you want to see the waterfalls, take the park's yellow trail! It's worth the trip! The Chapada is breathtaking! Vale a pena o passeio! A Chapada é deslumbrante!!

(Translated by Google) The trail to the viewpoint is challenging, so it is not recommended for children. It is essential to be careful and avoid unnecessary risks, such as trying to reach the edge of the rock to take photos — this can be extremely dangerous. If you fall, the consequences can be serious. Although the trail signs are not perfect, the path is relatively intuitive, with some signs along the way. It is recommended to bring plenty of water, as the effort can be intense, especially on hot days. There are two waterfalls on the trail that, apparently, only appear during the rainy season. At the reception, visitors have access to a bathroom and water, which offers greater convenience to start and end the adventure. The landscape is worth it. One of the most beautiful views I have ever seen! A paisagem vale a pena.

(Translated by Google) The trail is rocky, but reaching the final destination is rewarding. I must point out that the trail is dangerous to access due to deteriorated bridges and wooden handrails, creating a risk of falls for tourists, which could lead to death. I will file a formal complaint with the state and municipal authorities. It's absurd; I photographed all the damaged areas. I hope URGENT measures are taken. (Translated by Google) The trail is challenging, but the views are stunning. We went in September 2024, and the region hadn't had rain in about five months. That's why the Abyss waterfall was dry. We left at 8:40 a.m. and arrived at the entrance at 1:30 p.m. Bring water (2 liters per person), something to eat on the way there and back, and I recommend wearing hiking boots or sneakers, as the trail is rocky and has steep descents and ascents. Sunscreen shirts are a big help, because without water to bathe in, the hike under the hot sun is tense, but in the end, the challenge is worth it; the view is sensational.

Camping das Sete Quedas is a perfect spot for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in nature. The campground offers a rustic experience with no electricity, providing a covered space with tables and dry bathrooms. Campers can set up near the river, which has drinkable water, but are reminded to keep the area clean. The location also serves as a starting point for an excellent trail that leads to the beautiful Chapada dos Veadeiros.

(Translated by Google) Excellent trail, despite being difficult. It requires planning, leadership and lots of water/chlorine. The campsite is on the banks of the Rio Preto, and it was the second most enjoyable swim of my life. The campsite has tables and a roof for meals and two dry toilets (I had never used them, but I managed and survived walking alone at night in the woods). The Sete Quedas (waterfall) is literally next to the campsite. I recommend booking two overnight stays, so you can have a full day of fun, as the trail is quite challenging. On the way there, it is 17 km and on the way back, it is a 3 km climb, and then another 3 km straight. BOOK IN ADVANCE as the trail is popular and there are only 40 overnight/day tickets. Best trip/camping destination near BSB to date (09/2023). The trill of the waterfall can be heard from a great distance, making this an ideal place to relax and enjoy nature.
So many beautiful places in Brazil and this is up with the best. Fair bit of walking and stunning pools and waterfalls to swim in. If lucky there are amazingly friendly little monkeys wanting a piece of your apple!! Simply wonderful.

I still don't understand why in Brazil people charge money for the waterfall. At least go to both( even if they will tell you that you need a guide, it is super easy , only 35 minutes to água Frio , and it is not that cold 🤣?

Nice place with a restaurant and shop. Pleasant walk down the river passing many small waterfalls, steep descent in a few parts. Largest waterfall at the bottom with a swimming pool. Lunch was good and reasonably priced. As with other places half price for oldies. Quite busy but was the weekend. There is a longer harder walk to another waterfall that we did not do.
Paul D — Google review
The waterfalls and the trail down are absolutely fantastic here. Unfortunately, the place has become a bit massive with large sound systems and a big restaurant. Overall, the waterfalls are fantastic and the price is fairly reasonable for what you get. Definitely recommend it to anyone in the Chapada dos veadeiros.

Great place, has good structure with a restaurant and bathrooms before you set out on the trail. The trail itself is a little tough, especially on the way back up. Everywhere you turn there is a different waterfall with little secrets further down the path. The star waterfall is at the very bottom, and is worth the hike, but there are many waterfalls along the way for those who aren't afraid to explore a bit! Bring good shoes! A great place to spend the whole day.

Cachoeira do Garimpão or Salto 80 is a moderate trail located in the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park in Goias, perfect for hiking enthusiasts. The route starts with an informative video at the Tourist Service Center and is marked by yellow arrows throughout the park. Although challenging with steep climbs and descents, reaching the waterfall at the end of the trail is rewarding.
Extremely beautiful. National park.

The weather is pretty hot during the day. So bring a lot of water and sun protection. You can buy the ticket on the website of the national park. There are several trails sharing the same trailhead and you only need to buy one entrance for R$40. The view is nice although the mirante da Janela has better view. You can swim in the pool under the waterfall, so remember to bring swimming suits and towels. The trail is not hard but can be tiring for beginners. But there are transportation provided by the park with a fee which can save you some energy. They also sell snacks and drinks at the station and the coconut water is pretty nice

Embark on an unforgettable adventure along the Trilha Sertão Zen, a captivating trail that leads you through the stunning landscapes of Chapada dos Veadeiros. Starting from Alto Paraíso, this route offers breathtaking views and a chance to connect with nature as you make your way to the enchanting Macacao waterfall. Whether you choose to cycle or take a 4x4 vehicle, you'll be treated to picturesque vistas that will leave you in awe.
(Translated by Google) Very demanding and difficult trail. One of the most incredible trails in Chapada dos Veadeiros. Every self-respecting hiker has to do this trail, which is a mix of adventure, challenge and lots of beauty. The new circular format looks wonderful. But it requires you to do it with a guide or someone who has already done the circuit. When you arrive at the main sign where the fork is, go right along the Umiri trail, where there are several sections of rocks that if you are not careful and have a good sense of trail, you will get lost. The trail going on the left side, along the Mirante trail, is calmer. Both arrive at the monitoring area and next to the Ferreirinha stream. Much of the trail has signage with the markings of the deer's long-distance trail, stone totes, ribbons and even string. To get to the head of the sertão zen waterfall, go along the stream bed carefully. It has a great well for bathing. And right there, there is access to the left and go to the rock viewpoint to see the magnificent waterfall from afar with its beautiful fall, which becomes more voluminous during the rainy season. The circuit was 19.5km long. Free place and you can camp in the designated place. Bring all trash produced.

Everyone knows it as a great place to watch the sunset. It is that, but not good for much else. And I have to wonder if just stopping at some other random spot along the road would offer comparable views of the sunset. Having said that, the night I was there (unremarkable evening in July) there was a crowd of 30-40 people there, all gathered just to watch the sunset. Kinda fun and heartwarming to gather for such a simple and rarely celebrated event.

Voltarei sempre. E recomendo de coração.

Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park is a stunning destination with two excellent trails that lead to beautiful pools below waterfalls, perfect for a relaxing day out. The park offers well-marked routes of varying lengths and difficulty levels, ensuring there's something for everyone. Conservation efforts are evident throughout the park, making it a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the refreshing natural pools and admire the lush landscapes while hiking through this gem of a park.
Awesome park with beautiful views and waterfalls. Your need to reserve all day to see them all, but it's worth. Crystalline water and lot of plants. Great place
Dwaraz — Google review
This is the closest trail complex to the village of São Jorge and a great starting point for exploring Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park. You can walk from the village to the park entrance, where you’ll find several well-marked trails, each identified by color: blue, yellow, red, orange, and a longer crossing trail. Depending on the season, it’s essential to check which routes are open — during the rainy season, access and safety conditions may change drastically. Always stop by the visitor center to ask which spots are safe for swimming, as flash floods can occur and pose serious risks. The trails are generally easy for those with hiking experience and showcase the stunning landscapes of the region. Don’t forget to pack plenty of water, some snacks, and to bring all your trash back out with you. Help protect this beautiful part of Brazil’s natural heritage. Tickets can be purchased online, and multi-day passes are available — which is worth it, as one day isn’t enough to explore all the trails. Respect nature and your limits, and enjoy every step of the journey.

Beautiful place. I did the yellow trail. Was very easy! Possible on flip flops, but shoes are recommended. No hiking shoes needed. Unfortunately the red trail is closed due the rain.

Absolutely great park with massive waterfalls and rapids (in rain season begin april). Both yellow (Salto 2.5 hour) and red (Canion 3 hour) is very doable in 1 day if your above average fit (4.5km/h). Add extra time for pictures and swimming. 18km in total mostly flat terrain some parts with rocks.

Cachoeira Almécegas I is a stunning waterfall located in Chapada Dos Veadeiros National Park. It is known for its impressive 262-foot drop and the beautiful natural pool it forms at the bottom. The waterfall is part of a complex that includes other attractions like the Cachoeira do Garimpao and Sao Bento Waterfall, making it a popular destination for nature lovers.
Beautiful waterfall that you can check out via the platform they built in front of it, or go down for a swim for another perspective. We really enjoyed getting into the water on the top of the waterfall, what is called the "pools" (piscinas). They price for a while day was at 70 R$ per person when we went there, which is wui te but, but if you stay the whole day and visit the other waterfalls as well, it's actually fine. We visited it on a Monday 9 o clock in the morning and there was literally no one else there! Recommend it 100%!
Melina R — Google review
This was the first fall we visited in Chapada and the one with enjoyed the most. The trail is intense but short. You can swim and enter under the fall! And the scenery is amazing.
Cristiana B — Google review
The two waterfall complex at Fazenda São Bento host natural pools and very nice tracking (not more than 2kms). It might not be suited for kids because the trail gets somewhat steep at some points, but over all it is of easy to medium level. When we visited the complex rainy season was upon us and the topically 6m deep Almécegas I was as deep as 11m so swimming, as well as not getting soaked were out of the question. None the less, the visit was well worth it.

It's a beautiful place. There are 3 waterfalls, a cafe and a small restaurant. They had live music when we where there. Top hint, start at the closest waterfall, then go to Almécegas 2 next and leave Almécegas 1 to the end, then you have seem them in the best order.
