The Barra's Lighthouse is a postcard of Salvador City, at beach with the same name , is the oldest in Brazil but is in a great conservation status. The visit worth cause the historical value, the beautiful neighborhood and the stunning views when you climb until the top! At the building of the old fort, we visited the museum that explain the History of the Lighthouse since the 16th Century and an interesting pictures exposition.

Nice beach but noisy and too many hawkers trying to sell you various kinds of items. I'd stay away from here and rather go to Rio Vermelho beach.

This is an amazing beach. In weekends they shirt down the street for people to explore the local community that does shows and performance. You will have everything you need with in a 2 min walk. You can rent chair and umbrella and order a bucket of beer with out leavening the sand. There are tons of stree venders with foods, drinks and stuff. As you travel please always be aware of the area your in. Do not take your valuables and leave them on the beach unattended.

A wonderful & magical place. The scenery is beautiful and the people are colorful. At the end of the day, a cold beer and a well made Acaraje, standing along the wall of the beach front watching the sunset is a scene that bring tranquility and peace.

An okay zoo. As of November 2024, about 1/3 is closed for renovations. They have several species of monkeys, foxes, turtles, two hippos and one zebra. A few snack vendors available. Free. NOTE: the entrance by the university is currently closed for renovations, only the entrance by the favela is open. It's still accesible by walking past the closed entrance and up the hill. Feels sketchy though; I'd recommend taking an Uber. Also, Google maps will tell you to walk through the favela to access the main entrance; I'd recommend against that.

Lots of cool animals, especially native species to Brazil. There’s at least one huge iguana that roams free which is pretty cool. There are also free roaming monkeys and of course peacocks. The best part is that it’s free.

I feel like this zoo has so much potential but now it's a sad place. Looks like animals don't have enough space and they seem stressed.

There were many interesting animals and they seem well cared for and comfortable. The paths were well marked and the maintenance was above the normal. Even the bathrooms were clean and useable. If you go during the say many of the animals are nocturnal so you may not see all the animals we wish to see. The unfortunate part is they close at 18:00. It would be highly recommended if they could provide a night tour. They may see better revenues.

Great museum. Love seeing more Carybé. Free to go, accessible and in a nice area. Not all galleries were being used at the moment but that’s normal.

Maybe it is a nice museum, if it would only be open for the public during their normal operating hours. We arrived Tuesday, at 13:00 and found it closed… The security guard explained that it was closing early for whatever reason…

Truly a must see! Beautiful exhibition and location is absolutely stunning. Go in the early evening to catch the sunset, eat a mouqueca at the por do sol bouteca with cacau pudding for desert.

This is a rather small history of African culture....has virtually nothing to do with the Brazilian experience, slavery etc. A lot of descriptions alcan only be seen with black light and are almost impossible to read. Very unfriendly trans person at reception.

November 2023, I visit the museum during it's first exhibition since reopening after Covid shutdown. The exhibit was so spectacular i visited 2 days in a row.

It is a a tiny museum with very little history or display on issues like slave trade, uprisings or freedom. There are some beautiful murals of the orishàs, with little explanation. Staff did not demonstrate much interest. There is so much more they can do to make this an excellent museum.

Really small museum - only two rooms. Has some nice artifacts but not a lot of information (would not recommend for foreign tourists as all info is in portuguese). Entry is 10reis in cash only.

I dont think this should be called an Afro-Brazilian museum. It has no mention of slavery, afrobrasilian culture (besides religious relics), afrobrasilian social and political movements, famous black individuals, etc. Very disappointing in the city with more Afro-Brazilians than anywhere else. The museum should be renamed, closed or completely redone.

Origins of this institution we're discussed as early as 1946. Located in the 1970s in this central historical district of Pelorinho, it's currently housed in a majestic facility used by Federal University of Bahia. The museum itself is small not taking long to visit. Very rich worthwhile display with English text available.

The island is perfect and very well preserved. Everything is clean and nice (unfortunately, humanity still leave bottle at some places) Make sure you book a tour less touristic with visit of paramana, loreto and other beaches than only one beach. Avoid as possible the restaurant they gonna try to assign you on the boat. They are very aggressive when you arrive on the island by “offering” you an umbrella and taking your order (but you still have to wait when you’ll go..). Decline politely and choose the place you want.

I so wanted to see the island but it's privately owned so no tourists allowed. Beautiful view and bird sounds. Swimming is permitted. A scene out of a movie.

While visiting Salvador for a friend's 45th birthday, a boat was chartered to go to Ilha dos Frades. The day from beginning to end was beautiful. Enjoying a great time with friends on the water. Then we arrive on the island and it was amazing. The beach is just heaven and we had a very tasty seafood lunch. While frollicking in the water, it was time to go and no one wanted to leave. It was one the best days ever.

Salvador Shopping is a modern, spacious mall offering a vast array of stores, from big brands to local finds. You'll also discover diverse dining options and entertainment. It's well-kept, easy to navigate, and provides good amenities. Expect crowds at peak times, but overall, it's a top spot for retail and leisure in Salvador.

A high end shopping center with some big names like Hugo boss and Adidas among others. Very friendly, great clean services and a good variety of things for kids and toddlers. It's not artistically amazing or anything like that and does not need to be. They often hold interesting exhibitions here though. Prices are a little higher for everything here but it's deserved

A lot of access points, easy to figure out where you are going and plenty of parking. Went there to have lunch eith some friends from church on sunday. A lot of options for eating, and even though it was crowded service was really fast.

Clean and well maintained with an excellent selection of stores and reasonable pandemic precautions in place to keep it safe and operating smoothly without undue risk to patrons.

Shopping mall with all the goods you are looking for. Restaurants are very busy d'urine the evening the week-end. No food market and no self-service laundry.

The location is beautiful, with a colonial mansion on front and a modern wing added at the bag. The expositions in the wing were multimedia, very well installed and interesting. Unfortunately, mist of the rooms in the mansion were under renovation and only saw two cute showings. There is a nice looking cafe in between both buildings, but I did not try it. I visited it in the early afternoon, I think they have special programming for the night, and the lights designs may make the outdoors look very appealing.

A Lagoa do Abaeté! A famous place in the folclore of Salvador, once a fishing village, it's now kind of a postcard. The sand isn't as clean as it looks on photos and the bairro is not the safest.

Since the COVID pandemic, this attraction has a lot less tourists. Main entry and shops are closed/abandoned. Still a natural beauty and free entry to swim or use the dunes. Take a board and slide down the sand hills kr picnic under a tree.

This was a quick stop. The water in the lagoon is disappearing, there are a few horses, one had died a d there was not much going on. This is not a must see, but cool to fill time if you happen to be in the area. Consider checking it out by car (there are police around but maybe hanging alone as the sun goes down wouldn't be great) then being on your way.

Fully natural place, I am not sure but probably on the bindery of safe area.

Nice park to drive around on bycikles that you can rent on a site. Great to spend afternoon with family and kids. There was visible security through the park so it feels safe. Park has also a lake that you can explore on canoe or "swan like" pedal floats. If you like modern art and sculptures, it is a great place to see artwork of Brazilian sculptor Mario Cravo. Unfortunately the sculptures have seen better days, so I would not wait to see these too long..

The neighborhood park where all you can eat fresh mangos is it's best feature. An oasis of refreshment in the hot summers.

It's good to relax, but sometimes is a little bit empty, it's not crowd.

To get there from the center is quite easy. However, do not rely on google maps or moovit in terms of the bus number (many buses have no number) or the bus stop to get on (as many drivers did not stop for me as it was not the right one) or even the route. Ask many people and look for a bus sign that states it is a stop. Itapuã is a neighborhood in the north part of the city of Salvador in the state of Bahia, which is famous for its culture, cuisine, history and architecture.
