Jesmond Beach Box is a vibrant new hotspot in Newcastle, often referred to as the city's largest beer garden. Nestled in the charming suburb of Jesmond, this urban retreat is just a short stroll from the Jesmond Metro station. While walk-ins are welcome, it's wise to secure your spot ahead of time due to its popularity. The venue boasts an array of delicious food options from The Holy Hobo and rotating street food vendors like Acropolis and Hatch 76.
We booked a table for date night weeks in advance due to low availability then a few days later our babysitter fell through. Unsure about the idea about taking the kids we checked the website which said family friendly, then I called to see if we could change the booking to include kids and they said that was fine. On arrival we were seated next to the stage and big screen, which the kids loved, however we were the only family there but this didn't phase the girls. The staff were friendly and attentive, the entertainment was great and the kids loved the festival vibe. We opted for the 1.5kg of fries served in an inflatable then a pudding. Our drinks orders came fast. The toilets were cramped but very clean. The only thing I would have liked to have changed is more families, which I'm working on with my friends. Would recommend, would visit again.

Although the location is more than ideal, and so is the actual garden bar. But the service is extremely slow. And I appreciate the lack of bar workers nowadays but the management and staff they have are mostly not bothered and moving like they don’t want to be there. It took 45 min to take an order and another 30 to deliver it …it was 2 pints! After that we had 10 min to finish drinks before we got kicked out of our table. The crowed is very specific too, and 50/50 mix of students and ever so complaining Karen’s
Arthur P — Google review
We went on a Sunday morning. Children entertainment is spot-on, but the bar menu is too expensive, plus they did not have any smoothies (although on the menu) and they brought us only the main within the 3 course children menu. When i asked they eventually brought the starter (it was supposed to be small doughnuts balls, but we were brought some toasted bread with 1 slice of celery and 2 slices of carrots). Overall overpriced and delivering a poor experience compare to what you pay.
Alessio I — Google review
Such a great concept but so poorly executed. While the staff were friendly, the operations were shockingly bad. Overpriced drinks took 45mins-1hour to arrive at our table, barely any alcohol-free options and food suitable for those with dietary requirements, and some of our party had to pay £2 entry fee while others weren't charged. Won't be returning.
Elisa M — Google review
Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. £2 entry fee, waited 10 minutes to be seated at the table we’d pre booked, spent £90 on drinks between 4 and after waiting over an hour and asking staff several times decided on a refund which was cash after paying by card. So essentially it’s a cash machine with a one hour wait but you get to sit round an unlit fire in surroundings that make you feel like you should be wearing a hi vis and hard hat.
Jonathon L — Google review
We went on a Tuesday, which is 2 for 1 on all drinks (with £3 entry) so really makes the drinks a decent price, although you have to get the exact same drink. Other days it seems a bit pricey but the area is really beautiful. Enjoyed it there a lot.
Alice N — Google review
£3 entry fee upon arrival which isn't stated when booking. Then slow table service with staff who are uninterested in helping you. Plastic glasses and rip off prices. 10L pitchers unavailable as were half the draught beers. Very disappointing.
Jordan G — Google review
Great venue and concept but the slow service really needs addressing as there's plenty of other reviews that mention this too. We waited a long time for drinks and had to chase them serveral time. If you need more staff on hand it's time to address the problem. Waiting 45mins for 2 beers is ridiculous.

Gastropub
Restaurant
Barluga is an elegant gastropub housed in a former bank, offering a sophisticated atmosphere and modern British comfort food. The venue features high ceilings, leather chairs, and drapes, with an open kitchen adding to the ambiance. Guests can enjoy a first-rate cocktail list and an extensive wine menu while indulging in bar food bites such as sweet potato fries, Lindisfarne oysters, and baked camembert.
Loved sitting outside on the upper floor, even though it was freezing! The heating lamps were nice but kept turning off every 5 minutes—please fix that, it’d make the experience so much better. Cocktails were amazing (£9 for a pornstar & French martini—both good), and my friend’s vanilla latte (£3) was surprisingly good too! Shoutout to the super lovely waitress—wish I got her name because she truly made the experience better. Someone find her and give her a raise! 😂

Josh was so lovely, he moved us tables so we were not affected by the wind, de-foamed the Guinness with out complaint amongst other things! He was so great!!!

Lauren served us, the most friendly outgoing girl I have met! So attentive and very talkative making sure we enjoyed our drinks and were satisfied throughout! Will definitely be back all thanks to Lauren!!
Megan S — Google review
Wasn't sure on the staff at first as they didn't greet us when we first arrived on the roof terrace, but we soon found them to be friendly and very attentive. The food was excellent although a little bit slow between courses, however that was fine with us as we were there for a leisurely lunch with drinks as well.
KIM C — Google review
Had lunch today we are regulars and always have the special but they no longer do it. I had the Moroccan lamb and it was disgusting, £19 I wish I had taken a photo, certainly wouldn’t recommend it. Place was empty so not sure if chef has changed and the normal lovely staff weren’t in

Nice meal, service was spot on. Atmosphere and decor give good ambience
Bill L — Google review
The food was good and the staff was very nice and professional but we had long waiting time ... we were waiting more than 20min to start ordering the drinks and the same to order the meal...
Antonio C — Google review
I had the bang bang chicken salad. I was a bit disappointed as the salad was like a bag of salad with carrot red cabbage etc not Asian veg as described on the menu. I noticed there were long green beans which were nice and chopped fresh chilli. The chicken was nicely charred. The dressing was more like olive oil which was too much for me personally. No other taste which I would have expected more from bang bang salad.

ABOVE is a stylish rooftop bar located atop The Vermont Hotel, offering global small plates, cocktails, and live music. It sits 200ft above the city, providing breathtaking panoramic views. This exclusive venue opens to the public on special occasions and features a chic Miami vibe with refreshing drinks like the Mojito Del Sol. Set to open in summer 2021, ABOVE promises all-weather dining with 360-degree views of Newcastle's cityscape.
Amazing views of the Tyne bridge the old keep and surrounding area. Table service was quick and very very friendly, cocktails were very good. There is no getting away from the fact this place is not as cheap as other bars nearby, but your paying for where you are and the views and the service and the great cocktails so suck it up. Also if you like banging music then DJ night is a must

Visited for afternoon tea. Food very nice, views excellent, staff friendly and helpful. But, we spent 2 weeks attempting to email and call to use a voucher (as per the instructions on their voucher) and got no confirmation. Eventually managed to speak to someone the day beforehand who confirmed our booking verbally. On arrival the staff seemed confused by our voucher and said the till didn't really like voucher codes. Eventually got that sorted, but seeing as the voucher was from their own company it should have been far simpler. Cocktails nice, but very expensive. The room is totally out of keeping with the rest of the hotel - very bright blue lights. We would go back, but wouldn't bother with the faff of the voucher. It's worth going for one drink for a look at the views, but I wouldn't pay for a second round
Kevin M — Google review
We were staying in the attached hotel, Vermont, and came here after a meal for a night cap. We didn't book but got offered a table on the terrace which was ideal as it was quiet and good for conversation. The place got busy as the evening progressed and Im not sure you would get in without a booking. Service was attentive without being over bearing, and the cocktails were fun. Views were great over the Tyne.

We celebrated my daughters 30th birthday recently, side room leading to the roof terrace. Can I firstly state the reception staff and concierges were excellent. We had about 35 persons celebrating within the room, we had a minimum spend of £2k and had left a £500 deposit. The general manager (Above) George was literally so helpful, nothing was a problem, as was Travis and Jack on the bar. We covered the minimum spend, as a special moment George brought out some small plates buffet, which was really appreciated. All and all we had a great night. Only one issue, the £500 deposit. It has taken almost two weeks to have this returned, I had to request help from George and head office staff. But other than would definitely recommend. Thank you.

Fantastic views over Newcastle. Service was rubbish, taken to an outdoor table, and after waiting 20 minutes for service, we left There were a dozen staff trying to look busy indoors, and with only 20 groups service should have been quick. It could do with some low level lighting outside. Other than the view there is nothing to recommend for this bar.

We got married 23rd September and had our evening reception in ABOVE, what an incredible venue to host such an amazing special day! We were looked after from start to finish by the amazing Lukas and of course can’t forget about Fai and her incredible team! We cannot thank Fai and the ABOVE staff enough for what they delivered for our evening reception… XOXO The Burdens

Recently had afternoon tea at Above for my daughters hen do. It was all great.Amelia one of the waitresses was a superstar and looked after us so well. A happy smile helpful service and great advice . She helped make the afternoon even more special .

We visited on 10th August 2025. Not a good experience. Waited a long time for serving staff to come over and then again for our drinks. The table was dirty and the menus sticky. The cocktails had excessive ice, making them far weaker than normal. Completely overpriced for the quality we received. What is more disgraceful is that I have sent emails of complaint not only to the bar but also to the hotel it sits above. I have also used a contact form on the website. They have completely ignored every one of my communications. Poor experience and even worse customer service, they need to act their together. They got 2 stars for the great view from the bar.

The Ship Inn is a relaxed alehouse located in a cool part of the city, nestled under iconic rail arches. The menu is entirely vegan, offering a range of cask ales and an inviting beer garden. Additionally, it's known for its fantastic inventive food and intimate dining experience.
Lovely local pub, have been here multiple times and is always playing good indie music. Good for a catch up with friends whether it’s just to drink or a sit down meal. Went today and the lady on shift was very nice :)
Gilien E — Google review
The fries were good, but the vegan fish was… just not it. Plus, the two small slices of tofu [vegan fish] definitely weren’t worth the price. On another visit, we had to wait over an hour for two bowls of soup, which was frustrating. That said, they do have nice nachos! The place itself has a really nice vibe, with great interior design and music that adds to the atmosphere. It’s also located in a fantastic area!
Liv B — Google review
Lovely little spot for a pint, especially on a day like today when the sun is shining. It was quite busy but what else can you expect with such nice weather, and a Saturday lunch time at that! A little on the expensive side at £5.95 a pint for a cider, so while it was nice, I probably wouldn't rush back. Excellent service too, especially with how many people were there. I would recommend getting there as early as possible in order to get a table as they fill up quick. We were lucky to get one as we arrived just prior to opening.
Milo C — Google review
Good vibes but small portions for food annd fish n chips is not good, not even sure what it’s meant to be as a vegan substitute. Burgers are crap. Beers are good that’s it.
James S — Google review
Great vegan roast, do wish maybe there was one more vegetable instead of two types of potatoes! Sticky toffee pudding was nice, did not enjoy the custard, had a weird powdered taste/mouth feel. Really lovely pub with nice decor and ambience. Good prices for the food too.
Dani H — Google review
Absolutely love coming here, I was just getting over an illness so the food here was perfect for helping me recover 🥳 The fish and chips were incredible and the "chicken" patty had a great taste 👍
James H — Google review
Only good thing was the weather today, everything else was abysmal. 1 Main course, 1 from kids menu, extra portion of chips, pint and half a shandy £41 WOW!! All followed by service with the attitude, really bad taste of the what I was told is Staropramen beer (everything but or they haven't cleaned pipes in really long time) and food that was mediocre at most. This is by far the worst place in every aspect we have ever been in really long time now. Needless to say wouldn't come back and wouldn't recommend it at all.

Visited tonight for a celebration meal. Food was beautiful. We get married here at the old barn exactly a year from now so wanted to spend some time here and try the food. I had corned beef pie and fiance had sausage and mash. Gorgeous. Staff where excellent.

Beautiful Inn, staff were lovely and friendly. The food was amazing. The rooms are a little on the smaller size, but perfect, if you like us, just want to pop your head down for the night before going off again. The room had aircon, which was perfect. Parking was easy, and we loved going and feeding the animals that are kept there.

Planned a baby shower here today for my sister in law. From planning to preparing for event and during event, it went smoothly. The staff are so helpful and gave me time and space to set everything up. Had help with cake and balloons from small businesses around the area!! The day was absolutely fantastic and I don’t think it could have gone any better. The food was amazing and definitely worth the money. Continuous flow of teas and coffee were provided to our friends and family who attended the event and the staff just made everything easy. The afternoon flowed nicely and everyone enjoyed themselves. We had the space for 4 hours which was more than enough time to hold our event. I helped tidy up after, cleaning all the things I had placed out and even helped the staff with put away candles and flowers they had placed for us. I really appreciate all the help we had been giving on the day of our event (Sunday 29th June) we all had an amazing time and thank you to the staff that made the day flow and who were ever so kind to us also! Thank you again for letting us book the space. I would highly recommend 😊

Lovely day & night at South Causey Inn, to celebrate the wedding of Marty & Jamie-leigh. The most beautiful setting & amazing food. Attentive staff. The venue for the wedding, ' The Barn', was beautiful inside & very elegant. And the breakfast was lovely. Very impressed with the overall experience of South Causey Inn & we had a wonderful day & night.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had the pleasure of staying at South Causey Inn in Durham for the wedding of Lauren and Ryan, and it was a truly unforgettable experience. The rooms were absolutely wonderful — full of charm and comfort. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful or welcoming, making the whole stay feel special from start to finish. The food was delicious and full of flavour, with every meal a real treat. A magical place for a magical day, and very highly recommended by our little ones, Nina and Lettie, too. Thank you for the memories!

We got married at the South Causey Inn in the Old Barn on the 23rd of May, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. From start to finish, the wedding team made everything seamless and stress-free. Steph and Stacey were incredible in the lead-up to the big day. They were always available to answer any questions, and the regular meetings helped us feel supported and totally at ease with the planning process. Nothing ever felt like too much trouble. On the day itself, Stacey looked after us and she was absolutely amazing. She had everything under control and ensured every little detail was exactly how we wanted it – we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Her calm, friendly presence made a huge difference and allowed us to really enjoy the day. We also want to give a big shout-out to Jack on the bar – he was fantastic and brought great energy to the evening. So many of our guests commented on how helpful and friendly all the staff were. Thank you so much to the whole team at South Causey Inn – for making our wedding day truly unforgettable. ❤️

We paid to use the pub stop facility and parked up for two nights. We were given a voucher to use on food and drink each night.Staff were welcoming and helpful. We ate in the restaurant both nights.Excellent food, huge portions!. Would definitely stay at South Causey Inn again.

We’ve just spent the weekend at South Causey Inn for a wedding. Our rooms were well appointed, clean and stocked with all the necessary toiletries and drink making supplies. Our two night stay was very comfortable and the air conditioning a boon! The arrangements for the wedding day, held in the farmhouse, were superb; the attention to detail did not disappoint and the staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Clearly customer satisfaction is a high priority for South Causey Inn. I would highly recommend this venue for all celebratory events.

Old George Inn, a 16th-century pub located in the alleyways of Bigg Market near Illegitimate and Market Shaker, is steeped in history and charm. It boasts an extensive beer garden with outside television screens for sports events and a cozy interior with open fires and live music. This historic venue, dating back to 1582, is known as one of the oldest pubs in Newcastle and is rumored to have been frequented by King Charles I.
What an amazing place. Our last full day in Newcastle. Had to make sure we visited this pub. It did not disappoint. So much history.
Marcel L — Google review
Not one of my favourites but is decent. I’ve only ever had food from here once, it was just alright. I do like the layout of the building and particularly appreciate its history. Not sat in the beer garden yet but seems like a pretty good atmosphere.

Best lunch deal ive ever had. I asked if it was a smaller portion because it was so cheap and it wasnt! I had the chicken tikka flatbread with chips and it was so tasty. Added to that was very friendly service from Beth who is just a delight and the chef even checked in on us...a lovely man. Cant recommend enough. We will be back!
Kathryn B — Google review
I always look for the oldest pub wherever I am, this is it in Newcastle. But it is a party pub. Everyone was having a great time, but this is not a “sit in the corner in a quiet old pub” vibe.
Adam S — Google review
This review is about the service alone, me and my partner had made a mistake with our food order. Completely our fault! But our lovely waitress, Beth, corrected it for us. She was beyond lovely, really pleasant to be served by her. Would definitely recommend visiting. For the lovely food and atmosphere but more importantly for the brilliant service from all staff, but especially Beth. Thank you again.

We booked a two person bottomless - unfortunately it was slightly last minute but the two people who accommodated us (I sadly didn’t get their names but one was blonde and alternative and the other was a tall brown haired guy) were both so sweet and made sure we got our moneys worth! The drinks were lovely (I was allowed to try an aperol spritz for the first time but also was allowed to get another drink at the same time in case i didn’t like it) and the food was amazing. Will and can’t wait go again :).

Came today for a bottomless brunch for my birthday. Drinks and food lovely but even better than that all of the staff were so lovely, friendly and attentive. Beth and Hendrick mainly served us and couldn’t do enough to make sure we had a good time, What a credit to the venue your staff are. Would highly recommend and will be back. Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

We booked for a student brunch. Nowhere were we told that it was 1.5hrs and not 2hrs like it is advertised. Drinks took 10 mins to be orders from when we asked to order. We were aware of the £5pp deposit which we paid but then £360 was requested via email without any prior communication. Have had much better bottomless brunches elsewhere in Newcastle.

Great Pub, super food, dog friendly This was a bit of a great find in terms of pub. We were visiting the region (and Hadrian Wall), and needed to find a place for lunch. We came and here based on the reviews and this pub did not disappoint. first the decoration is great, they had a super large selection of meals & last but not least it is a dog friendly pub! Highly recommended from us.
Paul V — Google review
Visited this weekend as we were staying in the area for a couple of nights and I had high hopes based on reviews and recommendations - sadly it didn't quite live up to expectations for me. It is a lovely pub and the garden is lovely to have a drink in the sun. The food however was a bit of a let down. My partner had the steak and ale pie with chips - he said the pie was good but the chips were so heavily salted they were difficult to eat. I had the squash rigatoni - the pasta itself was undercooked and chewy, rather than al dente, and the sauce was a bit too sweet for my taste. Both main courses were just a bit disappointing for the price. Desserts were nice, thankfully - would recommend the pecan pie and the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake.
Gemma N — Google review
What a great pub with interesting craft beers brewed on site. Lovely outside area to explore and plenty of space. Food was tasty albeit a bit pricey and could have done with some greens with the pie. Dog friendly which is a bonus. Would definitely come back.

Rang and booked a table within 45 mins even though it was busy when we got there. We decided to sit outside In the sun. Had a nice out door area, spacious with plenty of seats. We went on a Sunday so there was only a sunday dinner menu. I had the beef, plenty food on the plate but there could have been a bit more meat for what I paid for it. Was all really tasty mind. Dog friendly too. Oh and they have fruity cider on tap. Winner winner.

Great pub, excellent cask ales brewed on the grounds, service was spot on for such a large grounds. Including the multiple outdoor seating areas. Dinner was great. The chicken parpadell, sea bass and fancy fisherman’s pie were all great. Do recommend, also situated right in the middle of the best and most vigorous section of the Hadrians wall hike.

Lovely pub, situated on the military road, 5 minutes from Steel Rigg carpark by foot. Buy the local beer, then afterwards buy it in the shop. Also Twice Brewed is beside a YHA.

Just back from a fabulous weekend with our choir. We had a twin room which was small but comfortable. Staff were fabulous, very efficient and attentive. Restaurant staff remembered I was Gluten free the second morning and had gluten free bread ready for me beside the toaster used specifically for gluten free. Such attention to detail, and remembering your guests makes you feel so safe. Evening meal choice was very limited for gluten free. A bigger selection would have made the stay so much better. However, the warm welcome and great atmosphere ensures we will be back next time. See you soon

Perfect pub/hotel for walkers. Loved the beer! Had a great night's sleep after an excellent evening meal, with attentive staff. Breakfast was good and we took advantage of the packed lunch option. Pub
Restaurant
City Tavern is a charming pub located in Newcastle with a striking Tudor facade and cozy interiors featuring bookshelves, chandeliers, and exposed brickwork. The pub offers award-winning ales and a hearty food menu in a laid-back atmosphere that allows visitors to escape the city's hustle and bustle. With its warm lighting and welcoming staff, patrons are encouraged to relax and enjoy their drinks and meals at their own pace.
Arrived for Breakfast and the bar is exceptionally clean, Aaron greeted me politely and with an energy that is rare in a bar at opening. The breakfast options are varied and include Vegan, Veggie and the full carnivore like myself. Food was served quickly, clearly cooked fresh and was of good quality (though the sausages were a little plain for my taste, so I did use some of their Stokes Brown sauce). Charging points in most booths for your phone or laptop. Overall a great place in town to have a traditional breakfast in comfort.

We had a lovely time at City Tavern. We had a yummy lunch, including gluten free beer on tap. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian food options available. The vibe inside was lovely and the staff were really really nice and very attentive!! There was free wifi, free charging ports and very comfy chairs. An added bonus is that they show movies for free at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm everyday on their giant outdoor screen!! Such a great vibe, definitely recommend as a stop in during a day in Newcastle.

We had the upstairs for a private event, but the whole of the tavern was gorgeous and fun! The decor was neat, the drinks fresh, and the service impeccable. Fair warning - they aren't joking about the 'giant' Yorkshire pudding, it spans a huge dinner plate!

Absolutely fantastic venue. I organised a scavenger hunt at work and wanted to hide some challenges round the pub. I didn't call ahead, just turned up on the day, hoping they would accommodate. The manager on shift helped out and even joined in by hiding a challenge himself. Super service!!!! I have been here a number of times now, and enjoyed every visit.

Wow, why haven't I ever been here before. Great pub and eatery in the middle of Newcastle. real home cooked food and an array of beverages alcoholic and non alcoholic. Plenty of choice for meat eaters and vegan options. Portions huge!! Staff were lovely and friendly, atmosphere was great too. Decor was fab, so well done. Definitely recommend to anyone. Dog friendly 😌 Gluten free menu 👌

Two meals and two drinks for just over £40 about the going rate now for everywhere. Food was nice (Cajun chicken burger, Slaw, Chips) wasn't much choice from the menu which is sometimes a good thing, veggie options are limited. Service was quick and efficient, still not sure why they have a perspex cover infront of the till which make communication with staff at the bar weird. Someone at the bar asked for Crayon's and to my surprise behind me there was what appeared to be a kids bday party?? it's a pub not a crèche what's wrong this these People? at one point some parents left their kids to leave the pub?? Mind boggles. It's definitely something I've noticed eating out in town these days people are treating pubs as playgrounds for their kids.

Avoid, been for lunch today and spent £47 on 2 sandwiches with chips and 2 drinks. Beef was tough with watery gravy and the fish fingers sandwich had next to no fish in it just batter, definitely not homemade bread and they even managed to make the chips bland. The waiter avoided us once the food arrived and we noticed they only cleared plates once customers had left. Obviously not wanting to hear complaints. As we left 3 lady's were sending back their meals, really wished we had done the same. Expensive drinks and rubbish food would not recommend.

Food was great, 2 of us dined and both had Sunday dinners (I had the cauliflower steak). I was maybe a smaller portion than I would serve myself at home but still very nice and all served very hot. We got there at 12:15 and it was very quiet but was getting fuller as we left at about 13:30

What a fantastic roast dinner. One of the best I’ve ever had. Beef cooked to perfection. Giant yorkshires and the red cabbage was something special. The best bit? The doggo din dins. 🐾

Great little gem in the centre of Newcastle. We didn’t pre booked (which I highly recommend), but staff was very accommodating to find us a table. Food was excellent, great selection of local Gin and Ales. No blaring music is great bonus.

Nestled in Newcastle upon Tyne, Horticulture is a charming venue that offers a mix of green spaces and lively nightlife. Visitors can explore the city's horticultural scene, from the Instagram-worthy flowerbeds at Jesmond Dene to the mysterious allotments with friendly competitions. The venue itself is a small pub with a New York loft apartment vibe, featuring a cosy bar on the ground floor and a modest restaurant serving small foods from an open kitchen upstairs.
Myself and my partner did not know what to expect from this place. The idea of sharing plates is great...the amount of food you get on each plate is a little bit less than I'd like for the price, but I do have a decent appetite. The food was great, and very well presented. Harrisa Smoked Salmon - although you wouldn't be able to tell as there was no hint of Harrisa, did not spoil the food however. Well presented and tasty. The Miso Beef Cheek was brilliant, very tasty and very well presented. The tear apart foccachia bread was good, and very tasty. As were the cranberry and brie balls. The pigs in blankets were a nice idea, very tasty, but the bowl of truffle and parmesan potatoes was huge, very un-characterisitic of the theme of the entire table given such small portions in comparison. We tried the after eight Cocktail, which was nice. I am confused why there was no mention of the price of the bottle of still water on the menu? I looked it over and over but couldn't find it. All in all we paid just south of £80 for our meal, two snacks, two sides, two mains, two cocktails and a bottle of water. Happy to pay this, but I was still hungry when we left. Would recommend this place to anybody. Well done!

This was a visit on the valentines weekend which may have not reflected well as it was busy and we felt rushed, however the food was good presentation was beautiful, the tempura and prawns were great, unfortunately was let down by some of the other combinations which weren’t to my liking. Although I would like to try the food again on a regular weekend to have the full experience and give it another shot.

Lovely setting and great friendly service. Food wasn’t great, more style over substance. The avocado was over processed and almost artificial and the toast became soggy. Looked very presentable though. Would go again for drinks but not for food😔
Lily S — Google review
Top tier scran. Yes, we came with 50% off small plates with the September deal, but for quality and execution would pay full price tomorrow. Incredibly impressed with both the meat and vegan offerings - enough choice for the latter to not feel restricted. Portion size was generous and well worth standard pricing. We had red pepper houmous (VE), truffle potatoes (VE), shittake mushrooms (VE), miso carrot (VE), chickpea fritters (VE), ratatouille (VE), pork belly, jerk trout, paneer and steak. Chickpea fritters (VE) and pork belly were our highlights, special mention to the paneer - as big as your hand!!! Additionally, we couldn't fault the service. Wish we'd got the name of our server (blonde, glasses, very personable), helped make our evening enjoyable. Can't wait to return.
Jasmine C — Google review
We went on a Sunday morning for breakfast with friends. It wasn’t busy and the service was quick. We tried quite a few of the dishes. The pancakes with the yogurt and the granola were good with plenty of fresh berries. The avocado cream on the avo on toast dish was too much, and could have used a bit more seasoning but the sourdough bread was nice. The Shloumi plate was tasty and filling, the eggs well cooked but unfortunately we got the wrong sauce. The biscoff pancakes were the highlight as it was the best dish we tried, not heavy at all and we all enjoyed sharing it. The coffee was also good. A plus is that is also dog friendly! Nice ambiance!
Marianna G — Google review
Beautiful 3 flooring restaurant with a stylish botanical dining area. Very good customer service , we felt accommodated throughout. Our waiter was nice, talkative and approachable. She made our experience more lovely. But unfortunately our food wasn't as impressive as we thought it would be. The time it took to make the dish took a little too long when it was quiet. Although I did enjoy the presentation of the dish and the steak texture, very soft and savoury, it melts well in your mouth but the overall taste was quite normal, I only wished the vegetables were cooked a bit more as it was still just raw and not barbecued and included more sauce for the steak.

I'd only been here for drinks before which were all amazing, so many cocktails to choose from. But came for food to celebrate a graduation and we had the best time. The person working, Sam, was amazing and she was fully attentive to all the tables even though it was busy and she was the only one working. The food we had was also so good. Lovely place with lots of plants and lights. Will definitely be coming again!

Very nice place on the water, between the bridges. Relaxt atmos. The weather was nice, so sitting outside was great. Nice beers on tap outside, not much choice and none local. There is a food court where you can order with a QR code, and the food will be brought to your table. We had Indian, Greek food and a Meatstack burger. All very good!

Lovely spot under the Tyne bridge for coffee and brunch, I had the avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and it was lovely, a nice spice to it, great crunch bread, the coffee and chilled atmosphere was fabulous too, friendly helpful staff too, great spot and also worth the scenic walk across the Tyne to get to

Turned up at 8:15pm Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend and told they'd just called last orders. A star for the friendly doorstaff who let us go in. We figured we'd get a quick half and move on. The options were very mainstream (they had Guinness and Kopperburg for example). Looks like it could be nice, but my opinion was it wasn't really what it was advertising in beers or opening times
Paul M — Google review
Popped in here for a pre dinner drink. Great location right on the river. Only the outside bar was operating. Because it's outside the drinks are served in plastic cups. Found it more expensive than the pubs, 20 pounds for 2 pints of beer and a gin and tonic.
Karen E — Google review
Fab location with great selection of food outlets. We tried a couple and would highly recommend Dabbawal Indian street food! Point to improve: It’s on the expensive side (£7 a pint), the beer selection is small considering its a tap location and the app confusing. Didn’t take away from awesome location and fab food/drink atmosphere would defo recommend 😄

By far one of the best place to eat and drink in Newcastle & Gateshead. The location is perfect, the views are outstanding. Located on the banks of the Tyne River in Newcastle upon Tyne, The Tyne Bar is a cozy pub offering a wide selection of ales and a vibrant atmosphere. The pub features a free jukebox, live music, and a garden sheltered by the arch of a road bridge. It's an iconic establishment in the city with picturesque views of the river. The outdoor space is popular when the sun shines, and it champions independent beer.
Great bar with a fantastic outdoor space, perfect for sunny days. There is plenty of seating and a good atmosphere. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the service is quick. Would definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for a chilled outdoor drinking spot. Five stars! Their house pale is always the best, but they also bring ales from local breweries. I feel like their Blue moon has a taste.

Love this place and its location. Indoors quite traditional britisk pub. Decent selection of taps including cask. Large outdoor seating area, so specially on a nice sunny day its really nice here. They do serve food here. I had a german hot dog which was quite nice.
Svein B — Google review
Food great. The one thing that I can't look past is that when it's busy they don't just let people wait at the bar in conventional fashion. We need to stop normalising single file queues (which often stretch way out of the door at busy times). Bars are designed as such that people stand along the length of it. If I want a drink I shouldn't have to leave the building.

I was introduced to the Tyne Bar in 2018. It was good to be back! Authentic is overused but this place is genuinely the real deal. Situated between the canal and the River Tyne, almost a hidden gem, but with plenty of locals to feed the atmosphere. We sat outside with drinks and home made brownies. Highly recommended 👏👏👏

I sat outside on a quiet early autumn afternoon in the sun. Really relaxing, with a gentle breeze. The beer is very well kept and I couldn't fault the selection. Staff were excellent. With an impressive lineup of activities ranging from live gigs to late-night parties, this bustling locale is perfect for those seeking a memorable experience.
Came with friends and the first time I have been in here. I would come back but the queuing system for drinks could be better. We were waiting in the queue and got moved downwards from the bouncer. We moved as asked but waited ages to be served, if we waited where we were we would if been served quicker as just one person serving at the bottom. X

We have been here a few times over the past 3 yrs as we go to Newcastle quite regular for a break. Well we wnt last night 30/01/25, welcomed to the seat and noticed it was virtually empty. As we sat down the waiter then started to tell us wha was not available on the Menu. It turned out that there were 5 main courses and 2 starters not available, the majority of these being what we would have chosen. Well after a quick chat with my wife we decided to leave and go elsewhere for food. The waiters wernt particularly bothered and didnt even ask why we were leaving. If this is the start with the new owners, then its not going to go far, and this used to be a very busy, good restaurant/bar. Never again.

A really enjoyable visit to The Botanist which is such a fun and funky place. A stunning glass dome with a huge tree in the middle of the bar and very cool decor throughout. Visited here for an anniversary meal and a few drinks this evening and thoroughly enjoyed. Food was very good, a little pricey (around £60 including a 10% tip) but ok considering the occasion, and drinks were really enjoyable too. The service was also outstanding, big thanks to Megan for looking after us and helping us with our order. Also love the aesthetics of the venue too, I'm all here for eclectic places like this. Loved it!

Visited last night having booked a table for 3 and as requested a window seat overlooking the fabulous Xmas decorations and lights. Sophie our waitress was excellent and was very professional in looking after us. When we were offered a sweet I asked if any of the sweets came with custard (which I have a passion for) as they had chocolate sponge on the menu. I believe a trip by Sophie to the local Sainsbury’s produced a perfectly presented sweet with steaming hot custard. This wasn’t our first visit to the botanist and on other occasions the service has always been excellent but I believe Sophie’s kindness and professionalism made our visit that little bit more special- thank you.

Blackfriars Restaurant is housed in a renovated friary that dates back over 800 years, located in the heart of Newcastle city center. The historic building served as a monastery retreat for over three centuries before being repurposed into meeting rooms and almshouses. Today, it features craft workshops, a gallery, and a gift shop alongside its renowned restaurant. The restaurant offers British cuisine served at heavy wooden tables within the former refectory of the friary.
First time trying this restaurant……boy I was not disappointed. Best Sunday lunch in the north east. Firstly the setting is lovely, fantastic outside seating area and stacks of character inside. Been a few years since we were last here and was just as good as I remember. We got the langostine cocktail and scallop starters, with oyster and hash brown snacks. Followed by Duck breast and a side of cheese leeks. All dishes were exceptional, but I do need the recipe for the brown sauce that came with the hash browns. Or at least them to sell bottles of it. I've never felt so passionate about a condiment but this is well deserving. Service was great, attentive and friendly.

Pub
The Ship Inn is a charming country pub located in Low Newton By The Sea. It boasts a picturesque beer garden, exposed stone interiors, and an inviting open fire. Recognized as one of the best beach bars in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller, it offers a perfect setting next to the stunning Northumberland Coast. With its own microbrewery on-site, visitors can enjoy a pint under endless blue skies.
We stopped for a couple of beers at the end of a day's walking before the minibus arrived. It's set in a beautiful horseshoe shaped set of fisherman cottages around a green looking right over the coast. What a fantastic location!!!! Staff friendly and happy to explain the history, very relaxed ambience, local beer, seating inside ( if its cold) and outside in the sun on benches chairs and on the lawn (obvs)

Excellent pub in one of the most beautiful little fishing hamlets on the NE coast. Friendly service, decent range of beers (including their own micro brewery), and sitting out on the green facing the sea is amazing. They usually have pub meals, but when we visited they only had a barbie offered, but the food was delicious!

A wonderful wee pub in a stunning Hamlet. Great pies, sandwiches, and salads. They brew their own ales, which are excellent. It is very dog friendly and just a few metres from a stunning beach. A superb watering hole for Northumberland coast hikers.

Fab pub right by the beach. Great choice of real ales, got it's own brewery, if you can grab a table outside in the sun we'll you've made it 😊☀️🌞

Quite a small pub but served absolutely fantastic crab sandwiches so if you can then try to find a seat. Would be nice if they served chips but I can understand why they don't. Really lovely location.

Cosy 18th C pub by the shore....tables outside.....inside not a lot of space so people seem to get there early and the queue can be out the door! What they produce from the tiny kitchen and bar is amazing Dogs are allowed inside. Food is tasty but no frills...just excellent ingredients simply cooked....no desserts but there was an amazing fruit cake on the bar which had to be tried! You have to try the crab stottie this close to the sea ...its scrummy.

Lovely place to stop when walking from Craster to Seahouses along the coast. Very welcome Three sheets to the wind ale. Very memorable walk and lunch stop.

A lovely pub in a fabulous spot. Was doubtful that the food would be good... but it was brilliant some really good, surprising choices and quick to arrive... I don't know how they do it in such a small place. Well worth the visit. Almost on the beach so good for a walk after your meal.

Lounge
Revolución de Cuba Newcastle is a lively rum bar and cantina located in the heart of the city. Housed in a four-floor venue, it offers a cocktail menu featuring premium Cuban rums, inspired by the vibrant nights of Havana. The iconic Reggae Rum Punch and various daiquiris are among the highlights. Visitors can also participate in a cocktail masterclass followed by a delicious two-course meal, where they can learn about rum and create their own Cuban drinks.
We did the sip and paint here and it was so much fun. The cocktails were lovely, and they even had a good range of non alcoholic ones for my friend who doesn't drink. We loved the shot of sprite with the non alcoholic porn star martini 😂 the staff were super friendly. Definitely recommend.

I visited on a Wednesday evening. The place very nice and welcoming. Staff was brilliant both at the front door and at the bar. We ordered a jug of Cuban Sangria, this was refreshing and sweet. We picked Sunshine Bowl with prawns. The presetantions was nice and inviting. However, we did ask if it was spicy, and we were told not. The dish was sprinkled with chilli flakes, making the flavour spicy. The waitress was really nice and changed the dish without flakes. I ordered the steak sandwich, this was nice a little bit spicy for my taste but definitely recommend if you like something with a little bit of heat. Overall I will be back to ordered the Sunshine bowl again as it was full of flavours . 😊

Wednesday night took nearly 2 hours from ordering for the food to come out. Beef ropa vieja had good flavours, chips were way too salty. Main thing that gave it 1 more star was the churros. They were served fast & were perfectly fluffy & crunchy, rum caramel really good.

1. Our pre-booked table wasn't ready upon arrival as they were "struggling to move the loud/drunk hen-do party from our table". Those were the words used. 2. Tables that sat next to us 15 mins later than us, we're served first. 3. Two out of 3 vegan meal options for my partner weren't available. She ordered the last option, a salad which came looking entirely different and missing ingredients than what the menu suggested. 4. Ordered patatas bravas without aioli as a dietary requirement, and was brought with plenty of it on, ignoring our request. 4. My beef brisket was 100% microwaved onto dry clumped rice (see photo) The music was so loud that bless your lovely waitress, she had to shout repeatedly to us to be heard and couldn't hear our answers until we comically shouted back. Yet she was the only positive element of this visit. Absolute chaos of a business all around otherwise. This is a stag and hen night destination.

I went to a Balkan party, the entry was 12 pounds, but you get a “free” shot of rakija if you come before 23:30. It was a scam. There was no rakija. Plus they made us pay for the table. Plus the bartender was rude. Nobody was apologising. My drink was bad. The music choice was not great.
Kristina A — Google review
Went for cocktail masterclass and dinner for 2. The masterclass is amazing and fun, thought it was a wonderful experience until we get to the restaurant for dinner. The entire great experience turned into nightmare when they make customers wait for over an hour to get their food considering it was “Pre-ordered” 2 hours in advance. Never been this disappointed with restaurant service in my entire life and ended up just walking out because the churros for dessert is already taking more than 30mins to get served. Arrived at resto 2pm and left 6pm without getting everything we paid for. Absolutely disappointing.

I cannot recommend Revolución de Cuba Newcastle enough for their bottomless brunch – it was truly an unforgettable experience! From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was buzzing with energy, music, and good vibes. The food was absolutely delicious – every dish was fresh, full of flavor, and felt like it had been made with care. The drinks flowed endlessly, with a great variety to choose from, and each one was spot on. What really made the experience outstanding, though, was our server Ellie. She was an absolute star from start to finish – attentive, warm, and always one step ahead. She made sure our glasses were never empty, gave brilliant recommendations, and made us feel so welcome the entire time. Ellie has that perfect mix of professionalism and fun that completely elevates the whole experience. If you’re looking for the best bottomless brunch in Newcastle, look no further than Revs de Cuba. Amazing food, amazing drinks, and if you’re lucky enough to be looked after by Ellie, you’re guaranteed to have the perfect time.

Greek restaurant
Mediterranean restaurant
Kafeneon is a charming restaurant that has been a part of Newcastle's diverse food scene since 1998. The whitewashed, taverna-like setting with a pavement terrace offers a bustling atmosphere for diners to enjoy Greek and Italian cuisines. The menu features delightful options such as the famous Greek Lasagna called Pastitsio, chicken gyros, moussaka, and an array of fine mezze.
Wanted to try this place for ages, and I had to meet a pal who met me here by mistake instead of the Greek place a bit further down. The street. Opted for 2 courses for £20 (i think) with the service being good, I opted for the beef, which was a good shout as it was unreal, and I can't wait to try it again. Bill with tip for 2 people, 2 courses, and a few beers £50.
Richy ( — Google review
We recently visited Kafeneon to celebrate a very special occasion - my wife's and my birthday, which happen to fall on the same day! When we shared this with the staff, they were genuinely delighted and made us feel so special. As a thoughtful complimentary gesture, they surprised us with a delicious fudge cake to celebrate our day. The geeek food we ordered was absolutely amazing, full of flavor and beautifully presented. The staff were incredibly kind, courteous, and attentive, ensuring we had a wonderful experience throughout our visit. I even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who personally came to greet us. He was very polite, enthusiastic, and truly passionate about making guests feel welcome. Overall, Kafeneon impressed us with its excellent food, warm hospitality, and heartfelt service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to enjoy a memorable dining experience.
Manish A — Google review
Service was decent, food was served quite quickly, and staff were friendly enough. The interior wasn’t bad, and atmosphere was alright. Far from the best vegetarian moussaka I’ve ever had but was by no means bad. Didn’t like the fries, that’s just personal taste, I rarely enjoy them, and much prefer thick chips. My experience here was pretty average though my partner really liked it. I would give it another go.
Ryan R — Google review
Excellent Greek restaurant in town. The food tasted amazing and the portions were great. Slight issue with the starters being forgotten but resolved quickly. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. Three courses and two drinks each came to £72.

Visited Kafeneon during Restaurant Week and had such a lovely experience! The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff were incredibly attentive. We went for the keftedes which were cooked to perfection and trio of dips with pita to start, and they were so flavorful and tasty. The chicken souvlaki was equally impressive. Of course, we couldn't leave without trying the baklava, and it did not disappoint. All in all, a fantastic meal and a great vibe. Definitely worth a visit whether it’s Restaurant Week or not!

This is a great place, love it. Great food, great staff, great location and atmosphere. Make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
Paul A — Google review
Lovely little Greek restaurant in the middle of Newcastle. Plenty of seats outside but we opted for a window seat inside. Great 2 course lunch menu for £15.95. I had meatballs to start with bread. This was delicious but only lukewarm. My partner had deep fried feta and said was really light and tasty. For main my partner had chicken souvlaki and I had the beef stifado (unsure why they couldn’t do pork souvlaki on the lunch special as it’s the same price as chicken on the menu) both mains were flavoursome and the beef just fell apart was delicious. Very reasonably priced and staff friendly.
Kerry M — Google review
The look and feel of this place is great and overall the place carries a nice Greek Taverna style atmosphere. The service also was impeccable. The portion sizes which they provide also are, for me, excessive and no one in our party could finish their respective meals and it would depend on the diners experience whether they are looking for quantity over quality. This is where as a family, we were let down. The quality was not that great to be honest, it was decent, but authentic? absolutely not. There were a number of key items missing from the menu which you would expect to see on a greek (or cypriot) menu and the dishes which were provided were, in essence, off-key to our love of Greek food which we all agreed on. Essentially, we come to restaurants because we cannot cook better at home and for the dining experience. Whilst we got the latter, the former - we can do better. Would I come back? yes - if I was super hungry and just wanted a really big meal but otherwise, I am afraid not.

Gino D'Acampo Restaurant Quayside in Newcastle is a spacious and inviting Italian eatery located at INNSiDE by Melia Hotel. The restaurant offers classic Italian dishes such as pasta, pizza, veal Milanese, lobster linguine, and Neapolitan pizzas. Guests can enjoy their meals while taking in the picturesque views of the River Tyne from the floor-to-ceiling windows or outdoor terrace.
A hidden gem of a place. It is so nice to eat food that has been cooked by a chief. My pet hate is paying for food I can cook at home. Finding a restaurant that produces great food is hard to find. This is a wonderful restaurant and great value for money. A place you must try.

Attended with my 15yr old daughter on a wee trip to Newcastle and the food was amazing. I had bruschetta, followed by chicken in a creamy mushroom sauce, daughter had the seafood linguine and then chocolate fondant. Prices were reasonable and we were £99 which included a 10% tip. Staff were polite and professional. Restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived but was getting busier as we left. Would definitely attend again.

Fabulous outdoor seating area overlooking the Quayside. Bottle of rose wine a little pricey (£34) but we had an excellent service by this Polish waiter (sorry didn’t pick up on his name)! Thoroughly enjoyed it and if the Wine was cheaper, we would have stayed longer!! Ha!

A place with a lovely view at the river and Elvet bridge with a nice terrace. Food was tasty - had a local Parmo chicken with a hotshot. I want to thank the waiters as they made the experience even more pleasant. Plus a pint of Guinness - what else does one need?

The venue was lovely, and the staff were polite. The steak was beautifully cooked and full of flavor. I recommend one of the sharing boards, whichever appeals to you. We had an early dinner, so the restaurant was very quiet as it had just opened, which was perfect for the children. There was a great selection of drinks, and the bartender who worked the day the King and Queen visited the Cathedral was exceptional.

The Hog's Head Inn is a modern hotel with casual rooms and traditional pub cuisine, offering free breakfast and Wi-Fi. The inn features a wide range of meal options, including the best carvery in Alnwick on Sundays. It is named after the fictional pub in Hogsmeade from Harry Potter, making it a must-visit for Potter fans. The family and dog-friendly inn offers unfussy rooms, including twin, family, and accessible options.
We booked this place as it is very accessible to where we are attending a wedding. At the entrance, there were different brochures of attractions in the area that are good to visit. The room was big, cozy, clean, and had a nice view from our window. We had dinner at the restaurant and the food was fine. I ordered the crispy pork, though it tasted good, I was expecting it to be crispy, but it wasn't. It's more like it was cooked in marination rather than deep-fried to make it crispy. Nevertheless, the staff were accommodating, especially the gentleman who served our food (I didn't catch his name), as well as the lady named Liv, who took our orders and helped us to print a document needed for the wedding the following day. Overall, our stay here so far is amazing, and I can't wait for the free breakfast included in all their room rates.

As a family of 5 its always hard to find a hotel which will accommodate us in 1 room but the Hogs Head was brilliant. We had a very large family room with room for 6 and everything you need. Tea and Coffee facilities with some nice biscuits. Iron, ironing board and even a safe. The room was clean and modern. Then there was the breakfast which was included in the price. This was a nice buffet style breakfast with everything you want. The bar is great with plenty of drinks to chose from and lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Conveniently located at the side of the a1 on the way in to Alnwick the Hogs Head is a modern building with ample parking. Very pleasant staff on arrival. I was dining alone and I did not feel uncomfortable. I had a very nice sausage and mash and cabbage which was delicious Around £15 so quite good value. This establishment has rooms so I might give them a try next time I'm in the area.

Just got back from a one-night stay and I can’t stop raving about it! The room was spotless, perfectly warm, and the bathroom was just lovely. I enjoyed two meals at the restaurant, and the food and service were top-notch. The team really made me feel welcome from check-in to the end of my stay. If you’re in the area, don’t miss out on this gem!
Dave G — Google review
Visited for drinks over a year ago before a friend's wedding, and went back when we needed to travel to Alnwick. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We visited during a muggy summer and the room was cool despite no air-con - they did provide a fan, but we barely need to use it. Perks of a stone building. The bed was so comfortable we both slept straight through. The bathroom was cosy, but the shower was nice and powerful. We had dinner, and I'd recommend booking a table when you book your room, as they are always busy - for good reason. Unfortunately some of the menu was unavailable, but the food was incredible, as was the service, and the drinks were really good too. Breakfast was another level entirely, being so closer to the border, you can enjoy the best of English and Scottish breakfasts, proper food to set you up right for the day. If you're ever going through Alnwick, definitely make a stop at The Hog's Head Inn, you won't be disappointed.
Rachel B — Google review
A sour start to my stay here. They cancelled my booking then had me stood at reception 20 minutes whilst they tried to work out where to put me. Then they had the cheek to tell me they'd need me to change rooms part way through my stay. I declined as I was working nights and they expected me to wake up to change rooms. The food was forgettable. The rooms are a good size, but basic. Tiny non smart tv, no air con, no fridge, no gym, no pool. Most staff seemed nice, I think the reservation people cancelled it, not the hotel staff. The phone at check in is so quiet that staff can't hear it, had it worked they would have known I was running late and maybe avoided all the aggro they caused.

Designed by renowned artist Charles Jencks, the park offers various family activities such as mini-beast hunts and treasure hunts. The site boasts criss-crossed footpaths and welcomes dogs on leads.
It is a lovely place for a dog walk surrounded by nature and wildlife. There's a nice woodland walk before you get to the hills, it was nice and peaceful. The views are pretty all around, and the dogs enjoyed their walk up and down the hills. There were plenty of different birds around - really lovely to see :) You can choose an easy wander around or climb up to the top to see the lady. The views from both are worth a visit! There's a £3 donation money bucket for the car park, and there's a bin in the car park, which is handy.

It's hands down the best place in the north east to go watch the sunset. It was a beautifully romantic walk. But can also be a fun family/dog walk as I saw many other people do. I walk here often, it's gorgeous no matter where you go the lower level with the lake or up top seeing the view, it's a easy walk to the top. There is also I new upcoming nature reserve to the left (it is still being built/growing) there are ponds (there's only one ATM but sure it's being built to be bigger) Theres horses and cows in the fields and you can see some beautiful birds. This track is approx 2.5 mile walk around if you stick to the main path, you can also walk up through a little village if midway (you see a famers house/cattle house there is a road leading upwards follow that road and you walk through a little lovely village (this Asda an extra 1-2mile to the walk) you will have to walk back the same walk back to the original track as it leads to a motorway. Added photos from all seasons, gorgeous any time of the year!

Nestled in the charming hamlet of Warden, The Boatside Inn is a delightful stone-built country pub that doubles as a cozy B&B. With bright and inviting rooms located in a purpose-built annex, it offers guests both comfort and convenience. Whether you're looking for a relaxing getaway or planning to explore the scenic beauty of Hexham, this welcoming guesthouse provides an ideal base.
My family and I went for a meal at The Boatside Inn. We rang ahead of time to ensure our allergies could be catered for and they had a children's menu too. We were served promptly and staff could not have done more for us. All bar myself and the three little ones had starters. Then we all had main courses and desserts. The food was out of this world. So tasty and good portions. All was good homemade food including the condiments like the Tarte sauce. The pub has a big outside playground for the kids to run off all that energy. Worked out at about £30 per person, which we were all impressed with. Would recommend to anyone because it was a wonderful birthday present for me Thank you all everyone. Keep up the good work

Seven of us went for a lovely lunch today. Food all freshly made and delicious! Friendly, congenial staff. Aware of dietary intolerances. Nice dining room. Not hard to find once off the dual carriageway.

Lovely welcoming traditional country pub and restaurant in a gorgeous location. Great service from friendly staff, and with food which is great value for money, I highly recommend a visit. I had the delicious fish and chips, so perfectly cooked with a lovely (gluten free) crispy batter, which was better than a lot of batters I’ve had before. Chips and mushy peas were cooked to perfection too. It was difficult to decide which dish to have in the first place as there was a great selection to choose from!

We stayed here for 4 nights to attend a family wedding nearby. Our room (Quilter) was nicely decorated and furnished, clean, comfortable and spacious. Lots of drawers and hanging space, and an excellent shower in the en-suite. Breakfast was really tasty (we had the small Northumberland) and there was a good choice on the dinner menu, again all well presented and tasty. My husband enjoyed the selection of real ales! The staff, led by host Andy, were friendly, attentive and professional. Another plus is that dogs were made very welcome. Altogether a joy to stay there and we would certainly return if we are in the area.

Our second visit in four months, stayed in the same cottage South Tyne and standards were as previously perfect, could not fault anything. The bar and restaurant was very busy indeed due to it being a bank holiday and they did seem a little short staffed however service was spot on and the staff remained very calm and friendly Sunday roast was amazing Well done to the Boatside Crew see you all again soon Robin and Ruth

Visited twice while staying in Hexham. On both occasions we enjoyed a walk along the river to get there. Food was excellent, I had fishcake the first visit and fish n chips the second. Husband had the beef rib both times, he enjoyed it so much! Lovely pint of local ale too. Highly recommend

We had a lovely stay here after a long and tiring cycle. The staff were so attentive and kind. The meal in the restaurant was delicious. Breakfast was also lovely. Rooms were comfortable, clean. Would definitely stay again.

Very pretty location and cute Inn w nice dining room. Friendly staff and good food. Sadly there was a great deal of mold in the shower, water did not drain in the shower due to hair (euww) and the toilet seat was very loose. There also were annoying flies buzzing around in the dining room. Would recommend the place if these issues were fixed.

The Brandling Arms, situated in Newcastle's Gosforth neighborhood, is a lively and popular tavern known for its friendly atmosphere and wide selection of real ales. The pub offers classic and modern pub food, including brunches and roasts. With a chic and modern interior, the pub also features a lovely beer garden that is dog-friendly. The menu includes upscale gastro pub fare such as gourmet burgers served with various toppings alongside a drink at an affordable price.
This is a great pub with super friendly staff- especially Grace and Katie- and a really buzzing atmosphere. We had a lovely meal where everything was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The hake was deliciously creamy, the harissa lamb bursting with flavour and the falafel burger awesome- credit to chefs Mariana and Darren! To cap it all two excellent classic puds- sticky toffee pudding and apple n rhubarb crumble!

Visited the Brandling Arms in Gosforth this evening and was not disappointed. We went for the 2 course evening menu and I had the baked harissa goats cheese and sourdough. I was told by George that I was the first to try this as it was new on the menu and it was absolutely phenomenal. Marianna and Kenny did an absolutely amazing job. For main I had king prawn and crab linguine and again just amazing. Lewis and George made us feel so welcome and went above and beyond for us- we will definitely be back.

Been wanting to try The Branding Arms for years and years and on Monday me and my wife chose great sunny random day to try. The pub is a bright, warm and very pleasant place to be.The staff we met seemed happy and enjoyed the job. We asked to take photos and they were really cool with it. They also told us the menu will change in 6 weeks time too. We ordered two Signature Burgers. One Rosemary and Parmesan. Cheese cake, brownie. Was a costly adventure but super well worth it. The ingredients were nice and different for the taste. The amount of skin on fries in the cups was plenty and had a lush taste and crisp. The cheese cake stole the show in looks and taste, The cake had shortbread up the side too which I enjoyed. The popcorn and chocolate sauce were so pleasing. My wife had brownie and ice cream which was lovely too. Overall I would say look at the menus and enjoy. Thank you Branding Arms and staff. We will come back down the line in the year as we live in Blyth.

Brunch this morning with girlfriends. Food was lovely, service was great. Only scored down for atmosphere as we were only ones in. They open at 10am daily for brunch but no one seems to know this. Dog friendly too. Will definitely be back soon.

We visited for an impromptu lunch on Saturday 4 October and then went back for dinner! Fabulous food and compliments to Chris the chef. We had fantastic, friendly service from Grace and Katie for both lunch and dinner. I would highly recommend visiting and we will be returning again when we next can.

Went out for a family meal at The Brandling Arms and the food was brilliant! The Boss Burger was a real highlight – juicy, full of flavour, and stacked just right. Wylam Brewery is located in a picturesque spot, overlooking a small lake in the heart of Exhibition Park. The brewery is housed in a Grade II listed building that has undergone a loving renovation. Visitors can enjoy craft ale at the tap room and attend live shows in the events space. The venue is dog-friendly, making it perfect for leisurely afternoons with your furry friend.
I absolutely love photographing weddings at Wylam Brewery! It’s such a fun, vibrant venue and different. The mix of industrial feel and cool, relaxed vibes makes it perfect for capturing both laid-back moments and those fun, lively weddings. The space itself is amazing—high ceilings, exposed beams, and plenty of light to work with. Plus, the food and beers are always out of this world. Wylam Brewery is definitely one to check out!

As brewery taprooms go this has to be by far the slickest one I’ve been in. The Taproom has the full range of Wylam beers including upto 4 cask options, the more informal terrace bar has just the craft. If unsure ask for a taster, they’re all top quality. The main hall is closed when private functions are taking place.
Mark N — Google review
Visited Wylam Brewery for a roast dinner recently, choices were beef, pork, lamb or a veggie option. (£19). We also added a side of cauliflower cheese between 4 of us which was very good probaly best ive had. The roast with served with a big Yorkshire pudding, green veg, smashed roots, roasted parsnip and roast potatoes. Beef was really tender and well cooked, potatoes could have been slightly better. Service was mostly good except some confusion at start. Drinks a little expensive but it is their own beers that they brew, it's dog friendly and they have a lovely beer garden for after

Excellent place this! Located in a large park in walking distance from the city center. I have been hear before but this time i had decided to also try their sunday roast. I would recommend to book in advance if you want to eat on a Sunday. Beautiful area both inside and outside the brewery with plenty of seating. This time there also was two food trucks located outside the brewery. Good selection of Wylam beers on tap. There was also a few guest beers. Great service from all of the staff. Got to try the new Wylam x Wor Flags collab, really nice fruity low abv pale ale. They were officially sold out of cans of this one, but one of the waiters suddenly told me he had one 4 pack left if i would like to bring some with me home, so that was a really nice gesture👌 The food did not dissapoint either. I had the Duck Leg Croquette and Topside of Galloway Beef. Sunday roast is my favourite british dish and this was top class 👌

Celebrated a family get together for Sunday lunch, staff were polite and very helpful. The service was paced well for us though we did run over our time slot which didn't appear to be a problem. We pre ordered our meals as there was 15 of us and food was lovely and not excessive.

We had Sunday dinner at Wylam Brewery and were really impressed. The pork was well-cooked, the cauliflower cheese was spot on, and the vegan dish was genuinely enjoyable. Everything was nicely balanced and the wine selection worked well with the meal. One of the best Sunday roasts we’ve had in a while.

Unfortunately the inside was closed but we sat outside instead for a pint and a burger, lovely place to spend a few hours outside the busy and loud city center
Eugen F — Google review
This venue does not allow cars/taxi to drop you off at the door and therefore a long walk, in the pitch black to the door. Certainly not something I would have done if I was on my own as it does not feel safe. There was a shuttle bus (golf buggy) but it took too long to do each journey. Venue itself is beautiful and well looked after with a good range of drinks.

Brilliant place. We are a party of fisherman that visit Amble every year. We usually book closer to town. We also don't pay for expensive places. Well you get what you pay for they say. Big rooms that were spotless. Fantastic meal in evening. Secure place and friendly staff. The breakfast was amazing and the place is dog friendly. We are coming back next year. If you book here you will not be disappointed.

We stayed for 4 nights at the Amble Inn in Morpeth and had a really lovely time. The hotel was a lovely place to stay with friendly helpful staff that kept on smiling even when extremely busy. The breakfast menu was outstanding with every breakfast need catered for, we enjoyed an energy boosting full cooked breakfast every morning before our days of adventure began. All the things we wanted to visit were all within 20 miles of the hotel, such as Seahouses, Holy Island, Bamburgh Castle and Barter books and more. We got lost once because of a road closure but we enjoyed trying to find our way around on the enchanting country roads, the scenery is beautiful. In the end we were sad to leave which tells me that we had a very good holiday and a holiday that we will repeat at some point in the near future.

Specifically chose The Inn Collection hotel because we knew it was wheelchair accessible. (We stayed in Blyth last year.) Bathroom and toilets were accessible. Good location to use as a base to visit other places. As you can tell on maps, not in a particularly scenic location. However, their outdoor area is pleasant. Comfortable room. Enjoyed our breakfast- self-service. Good coffee. Good music. Would recommend and will be staying in another Inn Collection next year.

It's a very nice pub! The food was excellent and the staff were polite and friendly. Service was prompt and it all came at good value for money. It's a fairly new build, but it has a lovely cosy feeling to it. We would definitely recommend it.
Marc B — Google review
Pleasant environment and front of house staff were friendly enough. The allergy menu was easy to find and user friendly, however I really struggled to find much that was dairy free. I tried to have Korean Venison Ribs but they had run out so I just went with a vegan burger. It was easily the worst thing I've been served in a long time. The bun was wet underneath and at the same time completely solid (couldn't even get a fork in). I ended up taking the burger out and eating it on its own with the chips. The chips at least we're quite nice. Noone asked whether the food had been ok. I wondered if that was because they already knew it wasn't. Anyway what my friend and I really wanted was somewhere to sit and chat which we did and had a good laugh. We both agreed we would go back for a drink but wouldn't eat there again.

We have stayed here 3 times now but this is the first time we have booked an adaptive room due to my husband having his leg amputated earlier this year. We really like this place but, unfortunately, the 'wet room' was unable to be used by my husband as, due to the wrong camber on the floor, the water never fully drained away leaving the floor too risky for my husband to risk having a shower. He managed to get to the toilet and sink ( very small with no plug!) in his wheelchair, but never risked a shower. Apart from that the stay was, as always very enjoyable, especially as we could get to the microbrewery down the road ( opens at 4pm, very busy, great place). We will be back to the Amble but I won't bother booking an adaptive room again.

Nestled in the Ouseburn Valley, Cook House is a charming bistro housed in two converted shipping containers. Run by Anna Hedworth, also known as the Grazer, this casual eatery offers a delightful menu for breakfast and lunch on weekdays. The cozy interior features eggshell-blue patio furniture and a wood-burning chimney, creating a homely atmosphere.
We visited the Cook house about a month ago. My missus and I are both vegetarian, so we tried pretty much everything off the menu, as they serve small plates. The food was fantastic, really tasty and full of goodness. It’s really nice to have some veggie dishes that are a bit different from everywhere else, made with fresh ingredients, and Paack full of flavour. We went for lunch and it wasn’t too busy when we arrived, it’s highly recommended. Although getting a pram up upstairs was a bit tricky, but one of the waiters helped us. We will definitely be back.
Pablo A — Google review
The food is undeniably well cooked, well thought out, nicely presented and I believe locally sourced. There's not much info on the menu I could see though (other than a bakery) advising where the chicken, beef or veg is from, so you just have to go the assumption it is? For me the price point/portion sizes are out of whack, in July 2025 it was £11 for the 2 croquettes pictured. The chicken salad at the same price had the most meagre portion of chicken I have ever seen, it would have equated to a single thigh or a third of a chicken breast. Cookhouse have done incredibly well from their humble origins, all credit to them but I won't be returning as it is overpricing its dishes in my opinion.
BROON B — Google review
Wonderfully thought-out menu with locally and internationally farmed and foraged produce. Interesting flavour combinations with both Asian and Mediterranean influences. Fresh ingredients and the quality speaks for itself. The Menu is created daily and the selection is guaranteed to please any palate.

We had an exceptional lunch out on the terrace, enjoying the last of the summer sun. What a great place, attentive but chill service, and great food across the board. Fresh, light salads with great flavour throughout. The chocolate terrine to finish was a delight.

Came here with my parents to celebrate my graduation and had the nicest time! During my recent holiday in Hexham, I discovered The Tannery, a delightful pub that warmly welcomes dogs with a water bowl and an inviting chalkboard sign. Opting for the spacious back bar, I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere alongside delicious food. Recommended by locals Sara Allen and Alan Turnbull for its vibrant ambiance and hearty pub fare, The Tannery also hosts live music nights and engaging quiz events.
AMAZING PUB. Absolutely worth the 5 stars. Food was incredible and massive portion sizes, they had a delay on food due to the amount of customers but definitely worth the wait. Had to take half of it away. Staff friendly, there was only one girl on (Lily) very busy for only one person but she still had a smile on and was as helpful as ever. Dog friendly and apparently cat friendly too. Noa loved it too ❤️

Looking for a dog friendly pub as we passed through Hexham. A little jewel, good service, atmosphere, very dog friendly water and a biscuit. The staff were very friendly and happy in their work and they clean the tables which I don't find these days. They had a couple of veggie meals on the menu I picked the arabiatta which was delicious and too much which makes a change and hubby enjoyed his chicken too. If we pass or stay we will visit The Tannery again and they do a quiz night on Mondays.

It has been featured in the Good Beer Guide for three decades, proving its dedication to providing great quality drinks at sensible prices.
I’ve been to a few pubs in Durham and non of them have blown my mind quite like the half moon, from the service to the spacious beer garden, even the friendly regulars you just can’t go wrong. No nicer pub to be found, especially that one fella behind the bar I think his name is Pete? Such a lovely and helpful guy making sure I was aware of all the deals that were on.

Nestled in a serene wooded valley just two miles south of Hexham, the Dipton Mill Inn is a charming former drovers' inn that beckons visitors with its warm and inviting atmosphere. Imagine stepping inside on a chilly winter afternoon, where the crackling fire creates an ambiance of comfort and coziness. In contrast, summer guests can enjoy the expansive garden alongside a gently flowing stream, perfect for soaking up the sun.
Absolutely superb. Lovely beer with fantastic prices and very nice food. Under £50 for 4 beers, two mains and dessert. Worth getting here early unless you've reserved. Only one beer on cask but more than made up by the excellent bottle collection. They are very happy to get you beers from the adjacent brewery. The mild was an absolute treat.

Lovely wee pub to visit! A bit gutted we only turned up an hour before closing on Sunday. Really short window to enjoy it as it's only open for 3 hours. We had some really nice home cooked food (Sicilian Lamb and Ratatouille & Cous Cous) and a couple of locally brewed pints. Totally could have stayed in there all day with that cozy fire!

Lovely traditional pub offers a warm welcome, friendly locals and proper homemade food. Their are fires to keep you cozy in winter and a pub garden for summer, good for all seasons! I had the steak pie, fruit crumble and a couple glasses of wine 👌🏼 We had a little walk around the pub and saw deer in a field. There is a nice little river walk too. Tip Dog friendly They have a website where you can check the daily menu It’s worth reserve a table, especially when they have themed nights such as quiz and curry.

It didn't start very well, with both the house brewed draft beers being unavailable we took our table in the dining room area as the bar area was small and with a few tables already reserved, it became apparent that we may have arrived at the same time as a few very local people all turn up for lunch on a Friday and thier atmosphere was very happy and cordial with the staff/owner, our experience was to prove quite different. After waiting for a good 45 minutes for Soup, cold sandwich and 1 easily cooked baked fish dish we where not disappointed with the food but the service left alot to be desired, we were never asked during our meal if everything was alright or if we required anything else etc. The whole experience was cold and almost as if we were an inconvenience to a pally Friday lunch club. This pub was the very first pub in the area that my Mum visited in 1968 when she movedj here, I think that she would prefer her previous experience to the one we had today.

I popped into this lovely establishment for a little lunch with a friend for a birthday treat. The atmosphere and happy locals singing the praises of the dipton was heart walming. I thoroughly enjoyed the food as did my friend. Even though the land lady was clearly upto her eyes with orders and short staffed she was incredibly welcoming and kind. I very much look forward to another visit soon. Good on traditional old bars being authentic with a lovely home cooked menu. Look forward to visiting again soon. Joy.

The Free Trade Inn is a lively waterside venue that specializes in modern beer and cider, offering a rotating selection from independent brewers. Despite its simple decor of distressed wood and graffiti-covered walls, the pub offers stunning views of the Tyne River and delicious pies sourced from the Amble Butcher. With 13 beer pumps featuring both keg and cask options, including real cider, it's a haven for beer enthusiasts looking to discover new breweries.
A few weeks ago I got a message from Mack 4273 suggesting I try this riverside pub, So here I am. Paulicarus spotted a new brewery for me to tick off, Scottish brewery Newbarns from Leith. A 5.2% smokey brown, only a half as too strong for a pre midday drink. 8 real ales on handpump. Followed with a pint of Cullercoats Jack The Devil 4.5% bitter. An L shaped bar with a good size beer garden to the side and a river view terrace to the front. Thankfully the wind off the Tyne is not as arctic today as it was in South Shields yesterday. A CAMRA 2025 Good Beer Guide entry. Also wins awards for the cider. A fridge full of foreign beers as well. Only a 15 minute walk from the Tyne Bridge along the river. Retains the character of a working mans pub. We found it very friendly.

What an incredible pub! The Free Trade Inn completely lives up to the hype. The atmosphere is effortlessly cool. it's the perfect, unpretentious place to catch up with friends. We managed to grab a spot in the beer garden and the view of the Tyne Bridge and the Quayside is simply unbeatable. It's the best backdrop for a pint in the entire city. The beer selection is fantastic. A great mix of local ales and interesting craft beers, all kept perfectly. The staff were really friendly and knowledgeable when we couldn't decide what to order. Love their selection of Kernal beers on my last visit. A truly special pub that feels authentically Newcastle. We'll be back again.

Great beer selections, both traditional beers on cask, plenty of taps and cans/bottles, and some of these might even be slightly hyped ones, so there is a really nice mix of beers available. Not sure if they serve food or not, but during my last visit they had a selection of cheese an there was also a food truck located outside. And the views are really nice looking towards the Millenium Bridge. Highly recommend to visit this place!

The best pub we visited on this 4 day trip to Newcastle. We were visiting the UK for 17 days and took a trip up to Newcastle to visit a cousin. Stewart took us to his favorite spots and this one did not disappoint. I had a third pint of the Overnight Oats (9.5%). It was a small hike to get here from the city centre but the view from the beer garden was amazing. On the must visit again list the next time we are in Newcastle.

Great beer selection, friendly staff all with some terrific views over the river. Highly recommend.

This has to be one of the best pubs in the UK, let alone Newcastle. Great location with great outdoors areas for when the weather is nice. Incredible selection of beers on cask, keg and can / bottle. They seem to cover all bases from lighter Pale Ales, to IPAs, stouts and sours. Great service.

Proper pub. Didn't have food but everything else was as it should be. Lived in Newcastle for 52 years, first time ive been.

Looks can be deceiving. Went to meet up with some friends and what a treat. I would suggest a traditional style pub with little in the ways of airs and graces, just a welcoming atmosphere with a great feeling. Difficult to put your finger in it but the staff were efficient and happy to see me, I think! The juke box was an interesting feature as was the curving bar that displayed a wide offering of cask beers, cider and fruit things! Each to their own. Dog friendly with a constant number of humans at the bar I would suggest waiting for the pub quiz on the Wednesday. Venturing outside 2 very pleasant seating areas with the one across the road offering one of the best views down the quayside in to the city. Top photo opportunity when the sun was setting over the town. To top off the night there was a mobile pizza van from Scream for Pizza and whilst I did not partake this evening they my fav with the associated restaurant up there. Appears that they offer a beer and pizza combo, match made in heaven. A definite revisit soon with some more friends.

Spy Bar, nestled on Osborne Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, is a vibrant sports bar that has quickly captured the hearts of both locals and visitors. With its expansive outdoor seating area featuring alfresco screens, you can enjoy your favorite sporting events while soaking up the sun during those warm summer days. The menu boasts mouthwatering American-style burgers and pizzas, perfect for sharing with friends over a pint or two.
My partner and I attended the taylor swift themed bottomless brunch for his birthday and had caitlin as our server, she was incredible: extremely attentive, funny and friendly! She was extremely fast at bringing drinks out, which were DELICIOUS, and when my partner had asked for a bit less vodka in his drink, she remembered that he had asked for that ALL NIGHT and brought his drinks out to his taste each time. She sang with us, laughed with us and gave me recommendations of the nicest drinks and food to go for. Honestly the best service (and food and drinks) that i’ve ever had at a bottomless brunch. If there is another TS bottomless brunch on again, my partner and I will be the first to re-book. Thanks for giving us the best night caitlin xx

Ordered a Hugo Spritz, after filling the full glass of ice, he only put a single shot of St-German, a tiny bit of Prosecco, then filled the rest with apple juice. It was hard to drink. I go back at the bar saying it’s not how it’s supposed to be done, one of the managers comes and tells me that’s how they do it in England. A loads of bs if you ask me. Especially for how expensive it is. All the other Cairn group’s institutions that serves it does it the proper way.
G P — Google review
Got 2 drinks and a meal and they didn't get a single one right Asked for a vodka and coke - got a vodka and lemonade Asked for a vodka and coke- got a rum and coke Asked for 8 salt and pepper wings- got wings covered in actual just salt and pepper and not salt and Pepper style wings. I was told by a local they usually put more things on it. If its just genuinely salt and pepper probably better to clarify 👍🏻 Unsure if the staff at this point just didn't like me as the drinks felt pretty intentional.

Came in to watch the women’s rugby World Cup final, as did many other groups. We were in at 1pm, drinking and eating ready to cheer on the roses! Match was put on and everything about the pub was great! The females behind the bar were so lovely and helpful! 5:20pm came and the rugby was turned off. 20 minutes left of the England World Cup final and it was turned over for a SUNDERLAND football match. When the manager, who had just come on shift, was spoken to about turning it back on for the last 20 minutes, he replied “The women’s rugby? No one wants to watch that, the football is on”. Absolutely appalled by this misogynistic reaction from a manger who stank of booze clearly from his night out before. Wouldn’t recommend if you support any woman’s sport, clearly not welcome at this ‘bar’.

Great bar to chat (some have music way too loud) and watch the match. Bar staff always friendly and usually let you know what drinks are on offer/save u money. Good selection of beers and spirits. It's very student populated but always a nice atmosphere.

My first time entering this place. It will absolutely be my last. We hired the dart board which was £7.50 in which we had no issues with. However the member of staff behind the bar “Emily” came and told us the board next to us was booked in 10 minutes time, which was a polite gesture just to let us know. Once our hour was up the Male manager with short brown hair and a stubble beard came over and said very rudely with a horrendous attitude said “right lads you’re done if you want to extend you need to pay now”. We actually asked to extend during our hour which we were told no. I went to the bar to ask if we can extend it and we were abruptly told “NO I have people waiting” The people waiting were said booking next to us however their lights weren’t working and they didn’t want to use the board. How this is our fault I do not know. This ended up in the manager (male) having a go at us especially when we asked his name. This is THE WORST service I have ever experienced from a bar, I would recommend to stay away from here. The toilets also smelt revolting. Poor service and poor hygiene.

Great experience there, so many screens to watch football on, great food options and friendly staff. Great discounts throughout the week too! Definitely worth a visit.

Had a booking here which was paid for by deposit and we walked outside for some fresh air as was incredibly hot inside. When we tried coming back in both the bouncer and manager refused our entry advising we must wait in the long queue. We tried explaining we had a table booked but we were not listened to at all. Honestly terrible customer service and pretty rude service considering we had paid money upfront for the deposit etc. I wouldn't recommend based on our experience.

Nestled in the picturesque countryside of Alnwick, The Black Swan is a historic pub and inn that dates back to the 18th century, making it one of the oldest establishments in the area. This charming venue offers a delightful selection of homecooked regional dishes and local ales, with special roast lunches served on Sundays. Guests can enjoy their meals in a warm and inviting atmosphere while taking advantage of complimentary Wi-Fi throughout their stay.
Amazing place! We had part of our wedding reception there. The staff was amazing and even left a bottle of champagne for us in our room. They were exceptionally accommodating and helped make our special day memorable. The rooms were great, and some of our guests also stayed there. I would definitely recommend it.

Lovely staff and location, unfortunately the room wasn't very good at all. The bed was very uncomfortable and my TV didn't work. The lock was temperamental as well, and very wobbly, so I didn't feel very safe. I'm sure the bar service etc is great, I just didn't get a chance to use those. Customers seemed cheerful and happy with their experiences.

This pub is now called The Hairy Lemon. We called in for lunch having been dismayed to find our usual favourite eatery permanently closed. We were greeted on arrival and looked after from start to finish by a very friendly lady. I was pleased to find a good selection of gluten free choices all at great value. My partner said the veggie lasagne was his best meal of our holiday. We will definitely return.

Nice pub. Has an “Olde worlde” feel about. More room inside than the front suggests as it goes right back. Food was excellent. We just had a light lunch in the form of a sandwich but I have to say it was one of the best ham sandwiches i’ve had. Unfortunately, only 4 stars due to the terrible coffee as, in contrast to the food, it was awful! Being weak, bitter and boiling hot. But, I guess if you want decent coffee, go to a coffeehouse!! Having said that I would definitely go again. I’d just have a beer instead!!

Couldn't get booked in next door but this has lots of space. Menu wasn't that exciting with the nicest being the single pork chop which was cooked really nice. Just let down by slightly over cooked veg..but still ok to eat. Only one small negative.. my table was a little bit sticky. They have rooms upstairs for staying over night and are situated in the heart of Alnwick with parking located five mins walk away

Wow, my first visit to this pub and I was not disappointed. From the moment we walked in the staff were friendly and attentive and treat you like a friend. The prices are good, £5 something for a Pint of fosters and a half of coke. Sunday dinners are incredible-seriously…for £14 you can get a trio of meats with 3 yorkshires and veg (see the photos) the plate was overflowing with food. For £12.50 the beef dinner was as amazing, I couldn’t eat it all. All in all one of the friendliest pubs I’ve been in in a long time and the food is an absolute must to try. Thanks to all the staff working on the afternoon of Sunday 10th September - you are fabulous!!! We will be back 😀😀

Would say this is one of the best summer bars around Newcastle. Big screen showing the sports and other events on. Very friendly staff, lots of selection on the beer/spirits and they light a fire on your table when it starts to get cold. Also love the art as they use a local artists

Attended the ABBA event today and can honestly say I felt that we were totally ripped off. Not enough seating to accommodate the hundreds of tickets sold at £19.50 each. Some outdoor seating but despite weather warnings for days event organisers didn't have the sense to cover this seating area up until the benches were already soaking. The bar staff were ill equipped to cope with the numbers and actually ran out of wine. Worse of all were the actual ABBA tribute. One actually looked like she had never sang in front of an audience in her life and looked like a rabbit in headlights. I was beginning to think the actual tribute band hadn't turned up and these were a couple of staff standing in. Honestly feel that I have not only had my eyeballs ripped out, but my sockets as well.

Visited this place during the day and appeared lovely but what a different vibe on a night. It appeared to be a reggae night with lots of stoners taking over the dancefloor. Food was spot on but not somewhere I would choose to go back. Such a shame as it has so much potential

Went to an ABBA event on 19th July that we had booked well in advance and the group of us had paid £100 in total for tickets. Turned up early as the rain was bad to get a table and staff were extremely rude stating they weren’t open yet and when I asked when they opened they tutted and said when the event starts, despite saying 12 online. The event in itself was absolutely terrible, found a post on Facebook which proves the singers were found online a few days before just asking for a couple girls to sing and it SHOWN! The place was rammed full and no one was sheltered from the rain despite having ages to prepare for a day they knew was going to be wet. Ordered food from the bar and was told my plastic thing would buzz when it was ready, ages passed so I went in to get it and was shouted at by the woman stating the food was ready ages! The bar ran out of Prosecco after less than an hour which was the final straw for us and caused us to leave the event. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY!

Visited yesterday with my Boyfriend and Brother. We did love this place, so fascinating to see the Brewery, I was so intrigued by the whole process and loved seeing it. Shows how fresh and and handmade the ale is which is important to me. The ale itself was delicious and so full of flavour my favourites were Looper, Rotator, Hippy Hop juice. The pizza was superb, loved you could actually watch them make it, all fresh and real ingredients made by hand. The wood fired oven gave a gorgeous char to it which made it extra special we even seen them bring more wood for the stove so you know it's authentic. One tiny niggle which is easily rectified that I noticed that the pizza wheel was rinsed in water and not washed with soap and water when cutting the meat and vegetarian and vegan pizzas but as I said it's a tiny detail and would not stop me returning. The bar and pizza staff really seem to care and passionate about their products. Very knowledgeable and professional they should be praised. It's dog friendly. They have outside seating. The toilets are clean and well maintained. Loved the quirky sinks, love the tap is the same as the keg taps lots of fun haha. Would definitely highly recommend. Would be happy to go alone to wait for friends. Love how friendly and chatty the staff are. Will definitely return.

We had our wedding at Full Circle Brewery. We didn't know anyone who had booked a wedding at Full Circle, all I knew was we liked it from the times we'd visited the tap room so we were taking a chance that it would be nice for a wedding but it was fantastic, I would recommend it to anyone As soon as we met Kate the wedding coordinator w had a feeling we could trust her to have everything covered and she was so on the ball, a relaxed calm coordinator but made everything smooth before the day and throughout. Everything was seamless and her communication was fab. It was just such a fun day. We were hoping for a fairly laid back relaxed day as we wanted a fun pub style vibe, and we got that but better. Everyone was so at ease because the venue is so relaxed but nicely decorated too, and the fab beers went down a storm! We had a bit of a medical emergency at the end of the wedding day with a guest and I have to say all of the staff were completely incredible. Providing First Aid with the confidence and precision of a paramedic and being very kind, calling the ambulance and even one of the staff giving us a lift to A&E to see the guest. I'm sure they weren't expecting that at the end of the night and were probably tired from a busy day and ready to go home but they handled things beautifully, we were so impressed and thankful to everyone! Coordination on the day seemed completely seamless, if there were any little bumps in the road I had no idea and was just able to relax and enjoy myself which is exactly what you want. I knew we were in safe hands with Kate. We also felt like she'd thought of everything right up to the day and it was good to sit down with her and get reminded of any little last minute decisions we needed to make, it was relaxed but she kept us right as we'd never planned a wedding before and she was the expert so we needed a little reminding about some aspects we needed to consider. Thanks again for everything Full Circle!

Really nice brewery tap - located upstairs with a good view over the brewery operations. Nice easy app to order, friendly efficient staff and easy going friendly big bearded locals. Most importantly some really nice IPA beer, and I could have happily sunk more than a few. Sold pizza but I can't vouch for it as we didn't eat here. Try and go on foot if you can to avoid what appears to be parking nazis outside if all the anxious signs about making sure you have paid for parking are to be believed. The walk through the lego housing of Byker from the tube station is interesting and while I'd want to keep my whits about me, didn't feel too unsafe.

I’ve been to The Beehive multiple times, and it never disappoints! The atmosphere is lively and always buzzing with energy. The drinks selection was solid, with a good variety of beer and ales. The best part, without a doubt, is the affordable drinks, which makes it a fantastic spot to hang out without breaking the bank. A super traditional pub a short(ish) walk from the City Centre. Had a gay old time as The Flintstones might say. Super real ale bar. Alic and Booth on their first ever visit. It's known for serving locally brewed real ale and is dog-friendly.
An independent camra award winning pub with a heart! A great selection of local ales with 8-9 different taps, I particularly loved the two by two. It's beaming with conviviality, people are here to drink together, if there are spare seats at your table they are free to anyone, makes for an intimate warm atmosphere. The best of the area is showcased here, people are so friendly. Definitely the best pub in Alnwick! No food served but we grabbed a pie to go just so we could come back here.

Wandered in whilst strolling around alnwick and were really pleasantly surprised by the warm welcoming atmosphere. We tried a few of the local ales and the bar staff were helpful in recommending which ones to try according to our preferences. We managed to get a seat, the bar isn't very big but we invited another couple over to share the table as it seemed like others were doing similar. Great atmosphere would have liked it to be my local!

Cocktail bar

My sisters booked me cocktail making for my hen do 💜 as a surprise and we all had so much fun 💕 and loved making the cocktails. Kieron the cocktail making host was very friendly, very knowledgeable and just made us have such a fab time. I would definitely recommend if you want something fun and have a laugh 😊

Horrific night club and service! Had booked a table here on Saturday night well in advance and paid a £500 deposit (£1600 total), our table was booked for 10:30 however we arrived about 45 minutes early and asked if we could just go into the bar etc for a drink until our table was ready, we was greeted by rude staff member who told us table booking don't start until 11pm etc even though our booking confirmation said 10:30. Anyway they advised us we couldn't enter early but they had a 'sister' bar around the corner we could go to until our booking so we went there first and it was called 'Aveika', we went here and had such a good time however once it was time for our booking in Livello we headed back to the club only to be denied entry because the bouncers didn't like the look of one member of our groups clothing despite letting people enter the club in the exact same clothing. After discussing with the bouncers i then asked for a manager as i wanted my £500 deposit back only to be told be a rude man and woman who was working on the door that 'this wasn't the process and we couldn't have our money back' Eventually we managed to speak to some staff member that worked inside the club and they confirmed they would allow us entry however we would need to wait outside in the freezing cold until our table was ready. After standing outside for maybe 20 minutes they came out and told us 'they could not find our booking' even though we had confirmation and a receipt of payment for the £500 deposit. After standing outside for maybe about 15 minutes they came out and told us they had found a table for us and we was allowed into the club. They did not give us the table we had reserved upstairs but instead a table downstairs where the service was horrific! The night club itself was absolutely terrible, terrible music and was half empty inside. Would not recommend anyone goes here unless you wanted to be treated horrific by members of staff and overall have a terrible night. Much better places to go in Newcastle than this!! The club seriously need to rethink their door staff, absolute terrible treatment from them who all thought they was better than everyone else there and going out of their way to try and ruin peoples nights. Do not waste your money we left after an hour of being in there.

I was ‘kicked out’ the bar for being unsure if I wanted to be upstairs or downstairs. The head doorman did not investigate this thoroughly therefore I was told the reason I was unable to go back in was being rude to staff. Which I was not in any way. Group of 11 girls left due to this.

Nice bar with expansive outdoor seating and great selection for cocktails. There was a bit of confusion on our visit that a flyer said 'classic cocktails 2-4-1', but after ordering there are only selected cocktails included, despite the flyer not showing any terms and conditions. The bar staff were very accommodating with the confusion and were professional in doing so.

This club is getting away with scamming people in broad daylight. DO NOT GO THERE!. Wish I had read the other reviews before we agreed to go. My friends and I made a booking in advanced and paid in excess of £500 for a group reservation. A couple of the guys arrived before 10pm and was refused entry on some made up reason by the bouncer. They obviously didn’t like the idea of some appropriately dressed black guys being in their empty club. We tried to get a refund on the booking and after numerous calls and emails it’s still took 2 months which eventually lead to them DENYING us our money back. Absolute Criminals running this place. Save yourself from a disappointing rip-off night and go somewhere else trust me.

attended a cocktail class with friends, great service, thoroughly enjoyed the evening, fab selection of nibbles and even better cocktails! Great fun for a different spin to start the night!

Fabulous service & amazing cocktails. Arrived twice today without a booking both times, the girls couldn't be more helpful & friendly. Ellie was especially helpful & I can't recommend this lovely bar enough! Drinks are reasonably priced for city centre & we loved the experience 😜

Good service, lovely cocktails and nice outdoor area. We visited in the afternoon so it was very quiet, starting to get busy as the night crowd arrived. But all in all, a lovely place to drink

Pub
Adam & Eve is a charming neighborhood pub located in the heart of Northumberland. The establishment offers farm-to-table inspired cuisine, creative cocktails, and a selection of locally-sourced spirits, draft beers, and wines. The spacious garden with outdoor heat lamps and festoon lighting provides a cozy atmosphere for guests to enjoy their meals. Visitors have praised the attentive staff who went above and beyond to accommodate special requests, as well as the delicious handcrafted burgers and pies offered at reasonable prices.
Great little spot, had fantastic service from Steven, thank you for making the visit even better with your great service. Food was amazing really enjoyed the burgers. The fact they are hand made is even better.

First time eating here and not disappointed! Arrived at car park at around 7pm, plenty of spaces but it is a private pay to park space, you can validate your parking inside the pub however! There were plenty of tables available and there was a nice overall feel to the place. The menu was a fairly standard pub style selection but they did have specials on too. The food however wasn't standard and was both well presented and tasty with good sized portions. Served up by a very friendly and accommodating barman/(manager perhaps) in a timely fashion. He was clearly busy as the only person behind the bar but he paid us good attention throughout our meal. My wife and I had a starter, main and desert and every course was delicious! Will certainly eat here again!

Food is decent for the price, good quality fresh vegetables, nice Sunday lunch, but sometimes it's hit and miss with the food, but you get good service.
Jack J — Google review
It serves a decent pint of Stella and is handy for the train station - Typical northern boozer really. Can't comment about the food but they stopped food quite early the one day, about 6ish? So may need to book ahead.

Group of us ate here for Sunday lunch, and were super impressed with the food. Good portions, (bonus points for hot plates) great choice of veg and the mash was unreal. Staff were superb, especially with our young children. Prices were reasonable too. Will definitely be back.

Called as everywhere else was packed on a Sunday for dinner. 6 of us come and lucky If there was 12 people in the full place. Food wasn’t nice at all. Packet sliced beef like you get in herons. Veg cold and hard and the size of the poor excuse of the Sunday lunch was for the borrowers I think. Crying shame it’s a lovely pub but been run down. Staff were even as miserable as the food and service.

Gorgeous Sunday lunch as always. Great staff and service too, nothings a problem to them. Generous portions and fantastic choice if you dont want a roast but I'd highly recommend them. 😋😋 Dog friendly which is always a bonus. Dont visit without trying the salted caramel icecream cheesecake its devine!!

Market Shaker is a vibrant and popular bar located in Newcastle's Bigg Market area. The industrial-style bar offers a lively atmosphere, an extensive beer garden, and an exclusive cocktail menu curated by award-winning mixologist Josh Callon. In addition to serving up delicious cocktails and craft beers, the bar features a kitchen run by the renowned Scream for Pizza, offering 18 New York-inspired pizzas available by the slice or whole.
This is a great bar, not too far from the station so a good starting point when arriving in Newcastle. The pizzas are great and cooked well. Plenty of nice beer on tap. Can't fault it

Absolutely appalling place. Terrible, terrible music. Think Vengaboys and corny rubbish like that. This cost £5.00 each on the door and we stayed for one drink and left. We couldn’t stand it anymore it was like being at a kids birthday party. I’m amazed they didn’t start playing the shark song it was so bad. We didn’t have food but the pizzas did look nice. Bar staff miserable and stood constantly on their phone. Only looking up to serve someone and being visibly annoyed because they interrupted their scrolling.

This place is a classs night out. Order sourdough pizza at 1am without having to leave the venue IDEAL. And the pizzas are wicked too and such good priced. Staff are niceee and music is always bouncing.

Went to the bar and ordered 4 doubles and 4 shots - not a cheap round! But even more expensive than expected! Asked for the bill and when we got it we were charged an extra £8 NYE charge! Questioned it and was told they added it New Years EVe and no one questioned it and so was told to do it all the time! I’m happy to pay premium prices for a prwmium experince - this was just a rip off! Do not recommend!
Danielle P — Google review
Busy venue with good music and a nice crowd, good deals on trebles and they got pizzas all night long which is amazing when on a night out (plus they are pretty good pizzas), absolutely recommend this bar if you want a class night out!

Busy fun bar 2 for 1 on good beers . Think we paid £11 for 4 morrettis

I visited this place as a solo traveler and was shocked by how I was treated. The security refused to let me enter simply because I was alone. This kind of behavior felt discriminatory and unwelcoming. I do not recommend visiting this place.

Cafe
Nestled on Chillingham Road in Heaton, Elder Beer has quickly become a beloved spot for craft beer enthusiasts since its debut during the 2020 lockdown. This charming café-bar, inspired by Belgian culture and run by Ed Sharp—formerly of Free Trade fame—offers an impressive selection of UK and international beers available on draught, in cans, or bottles. Patrons can enjoy savory snacks that perfectly complement their drinks while soaking up the vibrant atmosphere that occasionally features piano nights and art exhibitions.
This tap room in Heaton has some good collection of IPAs. Good atmosphere.. the backyard beer garden is also lovely.

Decent place located in a converted shop, with a good range of beers, including some super strength ones. Fair prices. Not that much atmosphere, but a good view of the street and passersby from the front window seats. A nice enough neighbourhood bar basically.

Elder Beer cafe is my favourite bar in Heaton. Amazing beer, including on tap the likes of Deya and Left Handed Giant - and in the fridge a tremendous selection including Beak. The atmosphere is always great and the service fantastic. The quiz on a Tuesday night is also a highlight. Nice little beer garden at the back. Go for a beer stay for the amazing vibes.

Really friendly cafe specialising in craft beer. I've always had a friendly welcome and its not an intimidating or off putting beer geek place. Having said that they know their onions. Stock shows both great knowledge and a love of contemporary beer styles with cans and bottles from local breweries, known craft beer names from across the UK as well as international including Belgian classics including Trappist, abbey and saison. They have eight draft lines and two cask now. As well as tap takeovers, they often have Deya beers on draft and a Rigg and Furrow on cask. There are always a variety of styles on draft and cask. The little beer garden to the rear is cosy and well sheltered to avoid showers. There is a piano for show offs but this adds character. It's a nice spot for a coffee or a beer, for meeting friends or on your own. In fact outs a good spot for solo drinking and you are not treated like you have two heads if thou just want a quiet pint or 2/3s by yourself. Also good for a take out can or bottle. They've teamed up with Flint Pizza down the road so thou can eat and they also have an arrangement with a local cheese company. A great addition to the burgeoning Chilli Road food and drink scene (If that is a thing!).
