Castlerigg Stone Circle, an English Heritage site, is believed to be around 5000 years old and offers stunning panoramic views. This Neolithic stone circle, possibly one of the oldest in Britain, consists of 38 large stones with a dramatic mountainous backdrop. While its purpose remains a mystery, some speculate that the stone placement may have had astrological significance.
Upon stepping through the fence, an immediate sense of peace and spaciousness washed over me. Something in the air felt different — as if it carried a quiet pull, connecting me not just to the mountains and fields, but to the animals, the wind, and perhaps even something greater, something beyond. The kids ran free for nearly an hour — climbing, tagging, laughing — while I utterly absorbed in the vast embrace of the surrounding peaks. As the sun dipped low, its golden light spilled over the landscape, turning every stone and blade of grass into something sacred. If you’re seeking a spiritual experience, this is the place to be. On a weekday around 6 p.m., parking was easy, the crowd sparse, and for a brief, perfect moment, we had the entire space to ourselves. In that stillness, the world felt both endless and intimate.

Castlerigg Stone Circle – A Mystical Gem of the Lake District! Castlerigg Stone Circle is one of the most atmospheric and awe-inspiring places in the Lake District — a site that beautifully blends ancient history, mystery, and natural beauty. Perched on a hilltop surrounded by breathtaking views of the mountains, this prehistoric stone circle is believed to date back more than 4,000 years, making it one of the oldest in Britain. Standing among the stones, you can truly feel the sense of timelessness and connection to the past that makes this place so special. The panoramic views from Castlerigg are absolutely stunning — the circle is set against a backdrop of Helvellyn, Blencathra, and other Lakeland fells, creating a magical atmosphere, especially during sunrise or sunset. It’s a peaceful, open site with no entry fee, easy to reach by car, and only a short walk from the parking area, making it accessible for visitors of all ages. What makes Castlerigg so memorable is its simplicity — just nature, history, and pure serenity. The site isn’t commercialized, allowing visitors to experience the raw beauty and mystery of the stones without distractions. It’s an excellent spot for photography, quiet reflection, or just taking in the stunning 360° landscape. Whether you’re interested in archaeology, spirituality, or simply want to enjoy one of the most scenic viewpoints in the Lake District, Castlerigg Stone Circle is an absolute must-visit. A place that stays with you long after you leave — calm, mysterious, and endlessly beautiful. 🌄🪨✨

Castlerigg Stone Circle in Lake District is a significant monument in Lake District which is approximately from 3000 BC. It consists of 38 stones, probably kept for religious ceremonies, astronomical observations, or a social gathering place. Its situated on a hill near Keswick that was formally preserved as an ancient monuments in 1883. It's surrounded by mountains on three sides that offers breathtaking view. Visited it as part of day trip. Highly recommend a visit to this monument

This 4,500 year old World Heritage Site is a really atmospheric and intriguing site to experience ... it may be small in scale but its landscape setting is just so beautiful... even in a damp June visit it was so good! Its poorly signposted btw and we used Google maps to get there.
Gary W — Google review
Magical place with 360° views of the surrounding beauty...the stones standing proud and unfathomable....but the guide from English Heritage gave us some idea of the current theories!! Older than Stonehenge so more stories to tell but accessible and free plus lovely sheep share the field with you and the stones. There is free parking on the access road and a cafe just down the road with all the facilities you could need😋☕!! Truly a detour well worth making and really a shame to miss it if in the area🐑✨☺️xx
Carol R — Google review
Visited Castlerigg Stone Circle for the 2nd time - it is absolutely stunning. The views are breathtaking in every direction — wide open landscapes, and a sense of history that adds to the atmosphere. It’s a peaceful, memorable place to visit and well worth the stop.
Jacqueline N — Google review
An interesting place to visit. Even on a weekday it was quite well visited. We caught the bus and walked up. Patience required to get a photo with no people. Some information boards at the field margin. Careful where you put your feet, sheep keep the grass under control! Commanding views all around no doubt a reason for it to be situated here.
Chris F — Google review
Wonderfully enigmatic place in a beautiful setting. Perfect symmetrical grouping of stones with smaller set within. Fun walk past sheep to get to the site.

The Theatre By The Lake is a Cumbrian community hub located on the shores of Derwentwater, offering contemporary theatre experiences with two stages catering to both large and intimate audiences. It hosts a diverse range of productions, including new and classic works, touring shows, musicals, comedies, outdoor festivals, and screenings. The theater is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and wheelchair- and dementia-friendly facilities.
We saw Di and Viv and Rose at Theatre by the Lake and it was one of the best theatre performances I’ve ever seen. The stage is set in the round, which means everyone gets a great view and very different to more traditional theatres. The cast was phenomenal. The story had me both laughing and crying. It’s funny, heartfelt, and beautifully performed. The staff at the theatre were absolutely lovely - so helpful and welcoming, they really added to the whole experience. We had such a great night out and if i ever visit Keswick again, i'll definitely be going to the theatre again.

Saw Di and Viv and Rose. Fantastic piece of theatre in a brilliant setting. Love this theatre. I have been several times when visiting Keswick and it never disappoints.

My husband, toddler and I spontaneously stopped by while on a trip to the lake. Although 2 hours and 30 mins of Pride and Prejudice (and so brilliantly performed) isn’t an ideal activity for a toddler to sit through, the staff were incredibly accommodating and inviting. An anxiety inducing turned into a memorable experience.

Fabby-tantasssstic. As a star war fan, who can take,or leave Pride&Prejudice. Wife bought a family of 4 to watch the show.. I can honestly say it was AAAAMAZING. As well as i surrounded theatre which have never experienced, all the actors and show was 1st class , would def go watch again.

We went to see Pride & Prejudice last night - two adults and two kids (10 and 13). A really tremendous, cosy and intimate theatre and setup. We all really enjoyed it. Great performances, innovative production. A real gem of a venue in an incredible location. Do go if you can.
Ben C — Google review
Brilliant little theatre where we watched a play in the round. Theatre can be reconfigured to accommodate regular tiered seating. 'Relaxed screenings' take place occasionally to accomodate people with special requirements e.g. BSL, and for those with ADHD, autism, visual impairment etc. Great to walk straight out of the place and stroll on Derwentwater. Cafe and refreshments also available.
Lorna M — Google review
We stopped in for lunch as a mixed party, 2 adults, 2 children and an elderly disabled member. Set up was fine to allow us to easily get a table that was suitable. We had to clear and clean the table and seats ourselves. Seats and table were acceptable, but did feel a bit "school cafeteria style". Food was decent, although not good at the prices. They were having a number of technical issues which meant a fair old wait to be served at the tills.

The Derwent Pencil Museum, established in 1981, is a charming destination that delves into the rich history of pencil production. Situated in Keswick within the picturesque Lake District, this quirky museum offers an array of attractions for visitors of all ages. Upon entering through a replica graphite mine, guests are taken on a journey through time to explore the evolution of pencils from their modest origins to contemporary manufacturing processes.
Heard about this from a friend and originally thought I was having my leg pulled. Surely there couldn't be an entire museum dedicated solely to the humble pencil? How wrong was I! This is the real deal and a seriously good trip out for children and adults alike. Takes you on a journey through the history of pencils, from beginning as a lump of graphite wrapped in leather used by shepherds to mark their sheep (see I really was paying attention), right up to the present day and the seemingly endless range of artists pencils now available. The addition of a quiz sheet for everyone even the adults seemed a bit odd at first. But it was an absolute genius move that compelled everyone to engage with the exhibits in search of answers. I don't think I saw anybody not frantically scribbling down answers with the pencil that doubled as their entry ticket. No spoilers but the last question will properly test your pencil skills. World longest (and I would guess largest) pencil, and a collection of micro pencil sculptures are other highlights. My only disappointment here was that they had sold out of the replica wartime map and compass pencil. A fascinating item that made a genuine and important contribution to our own history. If you are visiting Keswick purely for the museum then use the on site parking. It is slightly cheaper than the in town option. The museum does get busy and there was barely any elbow room as people gathered around some of the exhibits, so you need to be prepared to share a bit of personal space. But if you are okay with that then there really is every reason to recommend a visit.
Mark D — Google review
The Pencil Museum in Keswick is small but full of charm. It takes you through the history of the pencil, from the discovery of graphite in the Lake District to how pencils are made today. There are interesting displays, including one of the world’s largest pencils, and stories about pencils used in wartime. It’s not a huge place, but it’s fun and a bit quirky, especially if you like local history. There’s also a nice café and a shop with quality pencils and art supplies. A pleasant visit, especially on a rainy day in the Lakes.
Ehab Z — Google review
I'd bookmarked this as a place to go on our holiday in The Lakes, and I am glad I did. It is a small museum, but worth a visit. I really liked how at the beginning they give you a quiz to take round with you to win a prize at the end - it's a great way to get everyone engaged in the visit and really making the best of all the information and history that is there. Your entry ticket is also in the form of a pencil, which is a fabulous idea. Really friendly staff and a great place. Perfect stop for a rainy day, or if you have an hour spare.
Charlotte S — Google review
A small but interesting museum exploring the history of pencil manufacturing in the local area. The factory making pencils is behind the museum and still manufactures them today. The museum staff were very friendly and gave us pencils as an entry ticket together with a quiz to complete as we went around the museum. Well worth a visit but doesn't take long to look around. There is also a small cafe and toilets at the museum.
Nigel S — Google review
A small, themed museum in the traditional museum style of exhibits and information panels. There was not a lot of interactivity for children. However there was an excellent quiz, and some area for colouring sheets and using pencil and drawing skills. The museum plots the history of pencil making from the 16th century, originally in this Lakeland area. It’s informative and interesting, with some quirky exhibits like a secret agent’s pencil with hidden map and compass. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. There’s a small cafe (although it was understaffed to the point of having reduced menu - no food only cakes, when we were there. ♿️The museum is all on one level and easily accessible throughout. Very reasonably priced, with a free pencil and quiz sheet (with a prize) on admission.
Peter W — Google review
This museum is not what I expected. It’s mostly educational, but it does not have many interactive projects or visual demonstrations. I appreciate how many different pencils they have displayed, as well as the various merchandise and products related to the pencil-making process that were shown. They also have a few colored pencil artworks exhibited on the wall, which are quite extraordinary. However, I think they could have hired a few more employees, presented the visitors with the process of making penciled in pencils, and let us try to make pencils ourselves. Just seeing different materials for pencil making is not enough for visitors to imagine how pencils were born. Additionally, their art shop is quite good, although all their products say they are on discount but they are actually overpriced.
E. H — Google review
Sweet museum telling the story of Derwent Pencils. Aimed squarely at families, as a solo visitor it didn’t hold a lot of appeal to me. I entered for free with a Museums Association membership, so nothing lost, but I probably wouldn’t pay for entry. Very nice staff though! Would love to see a tour or access made available for the stunning modernist building next door, although looks like it might not have much link to the company anymore.
Marques — Google review
A little museum more interesting than it seems. Dedicated paid disabled bays. Automatically doors. Wheelchair access inside the museum was OK but busy with people doing the quizzes. You get a free pencil which was a nice surprise. The history of the WWII secret pencil was fascinating. There is the Guinness book of records for the longest pencil. Gift shop and cafe located inside. Disabled loo was outside.

To pay less than 14.00 for a Nana and three kids is amazing value! Staff are really friendly and helpful, and the inevitable “exit through the shop” is very parent friendly. The exhibits are brilliant, we had lots of fun, laughs and education! Thank you!

Keswick Museum, located on Station Road north of the River Greta, is a charming and quirky museum featuring an eclectic collection of artifacts. With approximately 20,000 objects spanning various categories such as archaeology, fine art, natural history, and literature, visitors can marvel at oddities like Napoleon's teacup and a 700-year-old naturally mummified cat.

Nice exhibits but it’s a pretty limited space. Only two galleries means the history of Keswick and the region is condensed massively. Free entry with my Museums Association card, so no harm done. But I probably wouldn’t pay for entry. Nice staff though!

A brilliant little museum packed with character and surprises! Keswick Museum offers a fascinating look into local history, with everything from Victorian curiosities to hands-on exhibits. The musical stones were a real highlight – who knew rocks could make music? 🎶🪨 The whole place is thoughtfully curated, with a friendly atmosphere and plenty to explore despite its modest size. Perfect for kids and adults. Brilliant insight into local history. There’s a lot of love evident in this community museum. I was surprised at how entertaining it turned out to be. The blurbs don’t do it justice. A child is free with a paying adult. They get a pocket history about local geology and fondle a selection of rocks before having a 3D visual of the surrounding area. The rock xylophone must be experienced in person. Kudos if you can belt out a tune. Plus there are type writers, ink and feather quills, 3 bears story telling, arts and crafts, etc. Don’t wait for a rainy day to experience it.

Market
Keswick Market, a historic and lively market nestled in the heart of Keswick town, has been a focal point of activity for centuries. Dating back to the 13th century, it continues to draw locals and visitors alike. The market operates on Saturdays and Thursdays, offering an array of goods including fresh produce, homemade pies, cheese, baked goods, and Indian cuisine. The Saturday street market boasts numerous stalls selling diverse items such as clothing, food, and gifts.
Enjoyed wandering around this traditional outdoor market. It stretches along Keswick's main street on both sides of the historic Moot Hall on Thursdays and Saturdays between 9am and 4.30pm. I came on a Thursday, when it was busy but not uncomfortably crowded. Liked the fact that this area is pedestrianised too. There's a wide variety of stalls, ranging from everyday items such as clothing, leather goods, household linens and tools, to beautiful and unusual Lakeland crafts including wood carving, jewellery and slate ornaments. One stallholder was hand painting wildlife images on feathers. Some of the merchandise was expensive, but the craftsmanship looked of a high standard. Some really good food stalls too. I especially loved the cheeses, honey and homemade preserves. The stallholders were very friendly. Lots of cafes, pubs and nice little independent shops around the market.

On a welding in Keswick , it was market day & who can resist a quick walk around a market . Well, 3 welders can't , it's fairly large with a diverse selection of stalls , my personal favourite was the jam man , see pics , having returned home I can categorically say = delicious jams , thank you Jam Man xx

I love keswick market. Such a lovely high street with plenty of variety. There's some lovely bakeries and shops with some unique items which I love! My son loves going here every year when we visit to feed the pigeons. We visited a couple of shops this year which id highly recommend which is the Lucy Pittaway gallery, they had some lovely items & also the 'alternative' shop. That's my favourite shop in the whole place as they always have great stuff & beautiful gifts.

Incredible amount if stalls plying different items. Mrsp & me went to Keswick market (08/11/25). Couldn't get enough of 'Pie Demand'!. Bought 2x Cheese, Onion & Chive. 2 x Scitch beef, 2 x Meat & Potato Pasties & 2 x Chicken & Mushroom Pies. Got home & Mrs P had the Cheese & Onion & I the Meat & Potato pasty. Seriously filled & seriously tasty. £22.00 for 8 x Pies....well worth the price. These are filled to the brim & taste fresh. Market stalls are clearly the best place to buy local produce. Yes they may be slightly more expensive but there's a valid reason for this...they're100% proper Pies. 'Pie Demand'...you won't regret it!!! 10/10. 👍

Starting at Moot Hall in Keswick, the Latrigg dog walk offers year-round beauty and easy access.
We parked our car on top and walked few minutes to latrigg. Initially it was hard to find that carpark but we managed to fond it in the end. But that view! Phew!! Its a different yet stunning view from every angle! A must visit

Fabulous walk, nice and steady and not too exhausting. The views from the top are insane, we started from a car park in Keswick but there is a car park situated at the start of the trail

Great vue easy a bit steep in parts dut very doable and the next day you can go up Catbells that you can see on the other side of the lake.

Worth this hike. View was amazing from the top. Easy to climb
Jerel A — Google review
Standing at 368m, Latrigg summit is not one the highest but my word, it has one of the best views in Cumbria. Starting at the free car park it's an easy walk of about 20 minutes to get to the summit. The surface is very well groomed and so it's accessible for almost anyone. Near the top there's a seat which has a view over Keswick. A great photo opportunity. Onwards and upwards... Not far to the top and worth it for the views. Pitch the tent and look towards Derwent and Keswick. Outstanding. The sunset was stunning. The blackness of that particular night I even witnessed a meteor shower. True magic. One of the easiest in the lakes... Get out and do it!

Great walk. We parked at the car park as we only had an hour spare for a quick walk. It was ideal for an elderly dog and a puppy.

Lovely hike. Beautiful views from the summit of this 367m high fell. I don't know how it is on other days but when I was there it was very windy. Otherwise lovely hike, for every age suitable. Definitely recommended.

Movie theater
The Keswick Alhambra Cinema is a charming, old-fashioned movie theater that has been in continuous operation for over a century. Independently owned and exuding nostalgia with its red and gold decor, ornate radiators, and velvet swinging chairs, it offers a cozy trip down memory lane. The cinema screens a wide range of popular films for both adults and children.
Went to the Alhambra Cinema today on a wet afternoon in Keswick. What an absolute pleasure it was. From the moment we entered, with the excellent man sorting the tickets and snacks. Someone was buying a gift voucher for friends and he couldn’t have been more helpful, and not letting her leave until he had given her a lovely card to present the voucher in. The cinema itself was fantastic and now the standard I would like in the future. Thank you Alhambra for a lovely memory.

What a great little cinema. The sound, seats and smell took me back to visiting our local cinema some 40years ago. Please support this gem of a place by popping in to watch a film when you are on holiday. (Note to the Cinema owners)....Think about showing more retro films if you can. Films from the 80s and 90s may well bring in more crowds than modern ones. P.s knock a couple of £'s off the price of your popcorn & sales of it will deffo go up. Thanks & we will be back next time we visit. 😁👍

Very old school cinema. We spoke with one staff member there and he was really lovely, friendly and welcoming. Coming from London the food and seat prices were really good. the facilities were good, very clean.

Gorgeous cinema - two screens and plenty variety in films - we were on a family holiday and booked for a treat! Totally lived up to all expectations - snacks and drinks weren't crazy prices - please buy to help support the cinema! Best popcorn I've had in ages too, and I had a tea in pot cup - great sustainability efforts everywhere. The toilets are epic - I advise you visit more than one 😉

The Keswick Alhambra Cinema is that rare thing in being a go to entertainment establishment that implicitly understands that it's the quality of the all round entertainment experience that motivates customers to attend and patronize. This cinema and its staff wrap their arms around you from the moment you enter the building. Service is charming, facilities & hospitality superlative. The owners and staff create a truly immersive experience that it always worth leaving the sofa for. For me this is the Gold Standard for how cinemas should be operated and run. Always a memorable and rewarding experience and one of those things that makes you feel good about life.
Dickon G — Google review
Great cinema. The seats are really comfy. You can take drinks in with you, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, sweets etc. The owners were super friendly and helpful as we had big rucksacks with us. We'd definitely go again and I'm just sorry I don't live nearby, they have a great range of films on offer.

Since childhood holidays Ive always absolutely loved coming to the Alhambra Cinema in Keswick. Not only is the interior beautiful. There is a huge selection of popcorn, sweets, ice creams, hot and cold drinks and alcoholic beverages to suit everyone. We visited yesterday to watch Downton Abbey the finale on screen two, the smaller of the two screens. We enjoyed every minute.

Scenic spot
Hiking area
Friars Crag is a picturesque promontory that extends into Derwentwater, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. This area holds historical significance as it was the first part of the Lake District to be owned by the National Trust. A leisurely stroll along the lakeside will lead you past memorials to notable figures and provide an ideal setting for stargazing on clear summer nights.
Beautiful viewing spot. Easy walk that takes you past the theatre & jetty area. We went early evening & it was fairly busy, particularly as there were a couple of school groups (that were very pleasant & well behaved :) ). Still plenty of space to take in the views though & it's definitely worth the extra 10 minute walk from the jetty area to go see it
Caroline G — Google review
Walked down to Friars Crag from Keswick town centre a very easy walk which took all of about ten minutes could have been longer if we had done a bit of window shopping 🛍 😀. Lovely area and packed plenty boating 🚢 activities and crazy 🤪 golf ⛳️ in the park.
Alex W — Google review
Beautiful scenic area, very easy to get to, with some nice pubs/restaurants in the area. Great little spot to take photos, as the clouds were moving in you could see them coming across the fells which looked fantastic. Little one loved it also as lots of ducks, swans, geese & seagulls that like to be fed so that was also fun. Would recommend checking it out & id definitely go again.
Donna J — Google review
A scenic lakeside stroll through meadows and gardens, ending with one of the best views over Derwentwater 🌸🌿🌊. During our visit in August, we took a gentle walk through Crow Park and Hope Park towards Friars Crag. Crow Park offers wide open skies and grazing sheep, while Hope Park delights with its floral paths, ornamental gardens, and family-friendly activities like crazy golf and pitch and putt which leads onto Friars Crag, a breathtaking viewpoint over Derwentwater. It’s a popular spot for walkers and tourists for that panoramic view and photography. If you're lucky, you might get a seat on what’s probably the most photographed bench in the Lake District. A Perfect Trio!
Maria S — Google review
An absolute beautiful scenic point however brace yourself for a really struggling hike uphill. From the parking spot it took us about 45 min climbing upwards to reach the peak
Samiur R — Google review
Friar’s Crag is one of those places we absolutely love, and we’ve honestly lost count of how many times we’ve visited. It’s such a peaceful spot where time seems to stand still. The views over Derwentwater and towards Catbells are absolutely amazing, no matter what the weather’s doing. It’s only a short, easy walk from the car park, but it feels a world away from everything. A perfect place to pause, breathe, and just enjoy the beauty of the Lake District.

The Keswick Launch Ticket Office is your gateway to an unforgettable experience on Derwentwater. Nestled near the jetty, this charming stone building offers a warm welcome and helpful service from its staff. Here, you can purchase tickets for a scenic 50-minute cruise that showcases the stunning fells surrounding the lake. With departures every half hour, you have plenty of opportunities to hop aboard and explore eight picturesque stops along the shoreline, including iconic landmarks like Lodore Falls and Ashness Bridge.
A really lovely boat ride! Watch out for the first row seats going clockwise around the lake as there's quite a bit of spray from the water. I recommend you don't buy duck food from the ticketing shop, since the geese get aggressive when feeding and a few bit me. Otherwise lovely experience :)

What a lovely 50 minutes I spent on the Keswick Launch. I booked online an hour before my sailing. I know how busy the little ticket office. The staff were all really helpful. I would definitely book ahead as the sailings fill up quickly especially on a hot sunny day like mine. There was only 1 space left available online when I booked.

We've been to Keswick many times but have never taken the trip around Derwentwater. Reasonably priced at £15 per adult for a 50 min lake loop with stop off options. Relaxing trip, great hill views and good service.

Lovely trip to Hawes End on the Keswick Launch. Parked car at the Theatre by the Lake car park and then on to the Launch. Just 10 minutes later we were on the far side to begin our walk of Catbells. Back a few hours later to get Launch on return. Great day out, amazing views.
Alan R — Google review
Brilliant service. Very scenic lake (my favourite in the national park). The gentleman who dealt with us at the ticket office was excellent as we had booked online but due to traffic and our childs travel sickness we were a touch late for our booked slot. He reassured us, got us on the next boat and was great with our kids. We went around the lake, got off at Hawse End and went for a walk. When we got back to the pier at Hawse End it was busy but as we had young children they got us on the boat to save us waiting for an additional boat they were sending (which wouldn't have taken that long to arrive anyway). Brilliant day out in the heart of the Lake District.

Boat tour - a must do 50mins for £15.25 / person. Views are spectacular and a peaceful break from a day of hiking. Several stops across the lake to get off and explore, including the start of your Catbell climb. … may also provide you some inspiration to hire a paddle board or kayak. Suitable for all ages
Philippa D — Google review
Had a really pleasant boat trip around the lake. I bought my ticket (£14.75 for the 50-minute round trip) inside a quirky little stone building close to the jetties. The man who runs the ticket office was very helpful, and you can also buy postcards, drinks and sweets here. Launches run every half-hour from Jetty 1, and ours ran on time. Boarding was quick and easy, and the skipper was very friendly. He warned us that the lake was a bit choppy in places, and outside passengers could get very wet. It was in fact smooth sailing and nobody got wet! The boat looked clean and well maintained, with polished wooden seats and fittings. Plenty of space inside and out. Dogs welcome on board. It was more of a ferry trip than a cruise, no commentary, but that meant there was nothing to distract from the magnificent views of Derwentwater, its wooded islands and dramatic mountain scenery. Very tranquil and unspoilt as well, and we had the lake almost to ourselves! Passengers could get on and off at about half a dozen wooden jetties around the lake, all clearly marked, with walking trails leading off into the forest and along the lake shore. I did the full circuit of the lake and considered it good value for money.

Nice place, nice staff, bizarrely though, no water in the swimming pool! Apparently it’s been missing for 4 years!! What on Earth are Better playing at! Surely a swimming pool needs water? I think the town has enough water, and the people deserve a pool? Could do better, Better!

Why can't the council or gov of England invest some money in family-friendly places like this! A few nice swimming pools around the Lakes or at least keeping this one open in Keswick would be a big plus for families and tourists alike but also for local businesses in Keswick as it will boost tourism. I was planning on visiting the pool with my family. I noticed that there are hardly no nice family pools with some slides etc for the kids. We are from Holland and do find this a bit 😞
Private C — Google review

No card payments on parking, portable toilets in the car park were overfilled, swimming pool closed and to top it off they wouldn't let my pregnant partner us the toilet inside the centre.. it's a real shame as the pool looked brilliant for kids.
Jonny J — Google review
It's a small but nice 'fun pool's for kids. About 25m x 20m. One small slide for toddlers and one pipe slide for older kids and adults. The 'deep' end is just 1.6m and there's a wave machine that goes every 30 minutes. At times there were 7(!) lifeguards on duty. It's a shame they don't pay more attention to cleaning as to do safety. Customers are walking about the changing room in outdoor shoes. Many of the lockers still don't take the new £1 coin, rendering them virtually useless. Customers in the viewing area were allowed to walk up to the pool in outdoor shoes. But worst of all, the walls of the pool are disgustingly dirty. There is a tide mark at the waterline that looks like a Flash TV advert. 3 stars for the pool, 1 star for cleanliness. 2 stars overall...
Ian W — Google review
I took two of my children here (3 and 7 years) for the aqua splash hour. They had great fun. I feel like the reviews give mix messages and there are some pointers that would be helpful for parents which aren’t really mentioned on the reviews. Parking; there is a pay and display which you can get refunded or if you pop in reception seem to give you a ticket for free because you’re using the facilities. Arrival; with myself and two children to help get ready I always arrive 15minutes before the session so we can be ready and we can make the most of the time in the pool. However I discovered on arrival that they don’t allow you to pay or go in until five minutes before the session which equated in standing in reception with two very excited children for ten minutes which felt like an eternity. The staff were great very polite and helpful. Changing rooms; it’s communal there are changing rooms some with baby facilities, family change rooms and individual rooms. The lockers were good also as there were smaller ones and family ones. The family ones are huge my three year old could stand in it. The pool is nice. It’s an odd shape and not very deep I believe the deepest section is 1.6m. So I wouldn’t recommend for someone wanting to go for a decent swim but fun for children. There is a small slide for young children and a large tubular slide for bigger ones. Children under four CAN go on the large slide providing they go on with an adult. On the website the aqua splash session had been described as having toys and floats to play with which it didn’t. It did entail the wave machine being turned on twice during the pool session. This was great fun and the children enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff were organised and plenty were on hand to assist if needed. A lot has been said about how clean it is. It’s dated, it looks tired and the tiles have gone an off colour. However it was clean. My biggest issue was water on the floor in the toilets, changing room and around the pool there was an awful lot of puddles which a member of staff could be sweeping away a couple of times a day would really make a difference. I have seen it done at other pools so it can be sorted. The other important thing to note is that their cafe is no longer open. There is seating still to eat if you brought your own. I was very disappointed with this as the website has a menu and prices up still also! Staff were apologetic and had good local knowledge of where you could go. I would recommend this as a fun activity to do and if the website had been more accurate and they were on top of puddles more I would of given it 5stars.

We had a wonderful time at Merienda in Keswick. The food was absolutely beautiful. It was fresh, full of flavour and really well presented. I had the trout which was cooked perfectly and I would definitely recommend it. My husband and child both had pasta dishes which they really enjoyed. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a cosy feel that makes it a lovely spot to relax after exploring Keswick. Service was friendly and attentive. A perfect place to eat in the Lakes but highly recommend booking ahead if you’re going for dinner as it does get a little busy.

We stopped in for brunch whilst visiting Keswick. There was the choice of a breakfast or brunch menu at that time. There was also a kids menu, though our kids preferred to order from the main menu. The staff were attentive and the food was absolutely delicious. The drinks arrived very quickly and the food also came within a very reasonable time and was clearly freshly prepared. Would definitely recommend a visit here.

Absolute gem and standout dinner experience from our time in Keswick. Fresh, tasty meals, very good portions. We had the onions Bajhis, beef tacos, creamy steak pasta, lamb burger, sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset and all were incredible. Staff also very friendly and helpful.

I’ve eaten at Merienda twice in two days - once by accident, the second time entirely on purpose. Both evenings were spot-on. The food? Just gorgeous. The pan-fried scampi was so good I nearly applauded. The onion and spinach bhajis - proper flavour, crispy perfection, and not a drop of grease in sight. For mains, I had the Caesar Salad one night and the salmon with vegetables and mash the next. Both dishes were an absolute poem - beautifully cooked, balanced, and seasoned with what I can only assume is actual joy. 🫶🏻 Service was friendly, calm and charmingly understated; no nonsense, just people who clearly care about what they’re doing. Honestly, every penny well spent. A little gem in Keswick. If I lived here, I’d be in trouble - I’d eat here every night. 🥇

Dropped in by chance and was given a table with courtesy and assisted by a respectful gentleman. Offered menu etc but we had already seen the cakes. So drinks and cake ordered. Very happy with our choices and tasty cake. Access from the street all on one level so easy for wheelchair and buggies. Established in 2006, this renowned craft brewery offers an immersive experience for visitors. Located just a short walk from the town center, it provides brewery tours where guests can learn about traditional brewing techniques and sample a variety of handcrafted beers. Booked on the Brewery Tour. Arrived and was greeted by Nigel with a glass of Fox Pale to taste before we started the tour. Nigel told us about the history of the brewery and how the beer is made on-site. We finish with a 1/3 pint of the following served by Sarah. 1. Thirst Rescue 2. Harlequin 3. Keswick Bitter.

Very knowledgeable host, welcoming and informative. Interesting to see how they brewed and the differences to other brewery's we have visited. Beers were decent, but the best drink by far was lemon drop gin with cream soda, absolutely delicious 😋

I contacted them hours before our tour to say 2 of us couldn't make it because of a death in the family and could they refund the £40 for the 2 of us that couldn't make it. They said they would not do that. I asked to speak to a manger they said they were a manger but would call me back later. over 24 hours later and still no response, £40 is a lot to some people right now and we need that to help cover costs of visiting Poland to go to a funeral but you a multi million pound company won't refund us the £40 for a tour we did not go on and let you know in advance. TOTALLY DISGUSTING.

Crow Park is a picturesque green space situated on the northern shore of Derwentwater. It offers stunning panoramic views of the lake and its surrounding mountains, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts and photographers. The park provides a tranquil setting for leisurely strolls, picnics, and relaxation. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as boating on the lake.
This is a stunning location There is a large car park, cost was £3.70 for 2 hours payable by cash or card. There are toilets beside the theatre these are gated and cost 50p, again payable by cash or card. The men's toilets were relatively clean but my wife said the ladies were not in good condition. The view from crow park itself was unreal with something to look at 360⁰. We were lucky enough to catch an RAF Hawk fly directly overhead whilst we were there too. There are easily accessible paths around the lake that are ideal for pushchairs. Overall very impressed with the area and glad we chanced upon it.

Crow Park is a beautiful open space with incredible views over Derwentwater and the surrounding mountains — perfect for a relaxing stroll, a picnic, or just soaking in the scenery. On Saturdays, it can get quite busy with both locals and tourists, but the lively atmosphere adds to the charm. There are often unique activities nearby — sometimes you’ll see owls that you can hold, people playing music in the underpass (subway), and even a fun mini golf course just a short walk away. The park itself is very well maintained, with colourful flower beds and neatly trimmed lawns that make it even more enjoyable. A great place for families, couples, or anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Keswick with a bit of entertainment along the way.

Great fish and chips place to visit if you are in Keswick. Service is friendly and efficient. Fish and chip was amazing. Their mushy peas is also very good. They also serve dessert, sticky ginger and tiramisu are good options to decide. There is additional dinning area at upstairs.
Terence K — Google review
Walked in thinking they offer indoor seats as well for a quick bite of some fish and chips, turned out they have a different (slightly more expensive) menu upstairs. The fish and chips was a good deal because of the huge portion. I liked how the fish meat was tender even after frying and it did not taste too salty. The batter was not too thick neither. The unsalted chips were freshly fried when served. However, the sausage and chips was a bit out of our expectation because of the obvious imbalance between sausage and chips. We could not finish the massive amount of chips in the 2 dishes eventually.
Kero C — Google review
The fish was below average for a chippy not even that far from the sea. The chips were decent. The vinegar was really, really watered down which when you like vinegary chips and fish, leads you to pour more which makes your food soggy. And the mushy peas were clearly tinned. Cheap moves all around… Chicken burger was alright-ish Service was good
Avril B — Google review
They nailed the batter on the fish, the best batter fried to perfection!! However, the sides were a bit underwhelming (not so thick curry sauce, mushy peas). Nonetheless a 5 stars rating, service and atmosphere amazing.
Richy M — Google review
These really are superlative chips. Just the perfect accommodation of crunch, suppleness and grease to satisfy a Lakeland appetite. Big old queues for takeaway but the process of the queue helps to sharpen the senses in anticipation of the feast to come. Heartily recommended.

Excellent fish and chips restaurant. Big queue outside but we were straight into the restaurant. Nice haddock. Good chips. All cooked in vegetable oil. Good range of craft beers

Ordered fish & chips, scampi & chips, 1 can coke cola. Fish cold and greasy. scampi cold, waited almost 30 mins from ordering till service. Was looking for gold plate on my can of coke. £3.20 for can of coke. I work in a shop. Cans of coke price marked. 0.90 pence. meal total £32.10. Omg Rip off. Definitely won't be back

I can honestly say this was the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. As a big fan of fish and chips, I’ve visited plenty of restaurants and takeaways over the years. After reading the reviews, I came here expecting a good meal—about the same as the others I’ve tried—because, after all, it’s “just” fish and chips. Was I ever wrong! The batter was crisp, light, and perfectly golden, while the haddock flaked apart beautifully with every bite. The chips were absolutely spot-on—not greasy, wonderfully crispy on the outside, and soft and fluffy on the inside. I’ve had what I thought were perfect chips before, but these were on another level. To complement the main dish, we had mushy peas and curry sauce—both delicious. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the food, the friendliness of the staff, and the welcoming atmosphere in the restaurant. We all enjoyed our meals immensely. Thank you! 🙂

The Square Orange Café, affectionately known as "The Squorange," is a cozy bar and eatery located in the heart of Keswick. This quirky little café offers a variety of options including Roman-style stone-baked pizzas, European-inspired tapas, and tasty nachos. They also have a wide selection of vegan options available. The café features guest wines from family-run vineyards, beer from local microbreweries, and coffee from Cumbrian roasters.
A lovely cafe in the centre of town. Exceptionally friendly staff who made sure we were looked after while we waited for our table. Food was equally good, particularly as it was prepared and cooked in the smallest kitchen I’ve ever seen. Would definitely eat there again.
James G — Google review
Visited twice in two days. We had coffee and the most amazing lemon and raspberry blondies then went back for pizza the next night. The pizzas were some of the best we’ve ever eaten. Really recommend no 8 and 12 as well as the nachos.
Kate W — Google review
A great little cafe that is full of surprises. Didn't expect to find great pizza or tasty nachos. We started with coffee and cake, food orders are taken from 12pm. After that we ordered lunch, service was polite, and the food was very good indeed. What was fascinating is that the kitchen is one oven by the bar, and the chef is able to do his magic well in this tiny space. It does get busy so go early. The name has an interesting history, so ask. As a strange combination of bar, coffee shop, pizzeria and tapas, it works really well.

Est. 1998, this venue has stood the test of time for good reason. Its exquisite aesthetic is the perfect mix of charm & welcome! A very well thought out menu of tapas, pizza and deserts includes a lots of vegan options. Staff are dedicated and v friendly. There’s limited seating that can’t be booked in advance, so arrive before 1230 to avoid disappointment!

Amazing food! The wait times can be a while, but if you get there on a good day you may only have to wait 30 mins. Despite the wait, the place is fantastic. We loved it so much that we had dinner there twice. Great atmosphere and delicious food!

This restaurant is (probably) the best restaurant in the entirety of Keswick. A warm and friendly dining atmosphere, great tasting food, and best of all, you don’t need a bank loan to be able to afford it. Very reasonably priced for the quality. I would highly recommend visiting to anyone who’s in the area. The pizzas are especially very good.

This place is one of those restaurants that does everything right. Attentive service from the barman to the waitress. The atmosphere was buzzing on the 3 times we went there, and the food was consistently impeccable, again each time we visited. This is definitely a place you must go to eat if staying in Keswick.

Visitors can enjoy the well-maintained grounds with beautiful trees, shrubs, and seating areas. The park also boasts unique amenities such as a stainless steel table tennis table.
Such a lovely park and every time we walked it there was someone maintaining it, leaf blowing, strimming, cutting grass. It's a gorgeous walk along the river and has a large field / cricket pitch to let rh dog run around. Even a cafe. All this and the backdrop of the fells and mountains. Love it.

A well maintained park in Keswick, keep an eye out for the amazing wooden sculptures carved out of tree trunks. There is a table tennis bring your own bats and ball. There is a what seems like a bowling green. Also if you lucky you might spot the Heron trying to catch it's dinner by the river. And a few bunnies too.

Nice clean well maintained park to walk around with the dog. One of three Victorian parks in Keswick. Quiet in the daytime, great colours in autumn. Some good sculptures to look out for on the way around. Also you can stop off at one of the cafes on your way around for a coffee or snack. Anyone staying in Keswick should definitely pay these parks a visit.

Lovely, well maintained area to sit and relax. Gardens are well kept with nice flowers. But there are also plenty of activities for the kids to get involved with like Bowling, table tennis, tennis and golf. A hidden cafe in the middle is also a nice surprise to discover and get a drink or ice cream

We went there for kayaking and had an absolutely amazing evening! The experience was peaceful and fun, perfect for a relaxing time on the water. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed. Prices were quite reasonable for the quality of service and equipment provided. One important thing to note you do need to make a booking in advance, as walk-ins aren’t guaranteed. Overall, a great spot for a memorable outing!
Hishan A — Google review
I had a very disappointing experience trying to book a kayak. The customer service from this company was unhelpful and unprofessional from the start. It was a few minutes before closing for their lunch break when we approached the door and felt that they did not want to help. Was directed just to look at a price board by a blonde male member of staff with no further information. Was told that they open at 2pm so we waited until this time. Shortly after they opened their door was told that we should book online and that their store gets very busy at 2pm bearing in mind it was just us and 2 other people waiting at that time point. Felt that they didn’t even want to help or give us the option to book in store and that the piece of information of booking online would be a better option for them was not shared and therefore time was essentially wasted. Other members of staff in the store, including a brunette lady wearing a black top was laughing and saying to other members in the shop that there were signs everywhere to book online. It felt that our business was not welcomed. We left and drove a short distance instead to Nichol End Marine where the customer service was on point. They took the time to go through the services available and provided us the option to book online or as a walk in. We did not feel unwelcome in the same manner as the staff members at Derwent Water Marina made us feel. I would strongly recommend that you take your business to Nichol End Marine where you will be valued and you will have an enjoyable time.
K.S — Google review
We had a lovely time canoeing here. An hour was enough for a 7-year-old, but 2 hours might have been better for people who wanted more time to explore the lake and visit the islands. A great way to get a different view of the surrounding fells.
Chris S — Google review
I arrived ecstatic and excited to get on the lake but was met with disappointment when the staff were unwelcoming and frankly quite rude. I was told to read signs rather than an answer to a quite simple question. Staff then rushed off to lunch and reopened only when other customers arrived much later than 30 minutes after they closed for lunch. I am Very disappointed and felt as though my custom was not good enough. Slightly down the road there is another amazing establishment called Nichole End Marine where I was met with amazing and friendly staff and enjoyed being a customer here.
Jamie S — Google review
Went for a family canoe, first experience with 7 and 3 yo. Booked online no bother and when we got there the staff were so helpful and polite and changed our booking to best suit us and keep us all safe on the water. Equipment was immaculate as were the toilets and changing facilities. We didn't manage all 2 hours on the water but even then was definitely worth the money. Would definitely recommend and will be back!
Emma C — Google review
Poor customer service skills, staff not very helpful. Do not recommended using. Feel for the owner as the staff look as if they are running the business into the ground. Store itself was not busy at all. Drove round to Nichol End Marine which was less then a 2 minute drive. Staff were much friendlier, busier and very accommodating.
Aniq C — Google review
We got shooed away at lunch time , and waited for 30 minutes, as we didn’t get told we could book online , wasted our time, and rudely got told that there were signs we could read. Would not recommend, as employees showed poor customer service and were rude . I would highly recommend going to Nichol End marine , 2 minutes down the road , as they had exceptional customer service skills , made us feel comfortable and welcomed.
Shafia R — Google review
I am very disappointed with the level of customer service I received. From the moment I tried to get help, the staff were unprofessional, rude, and made no effort to be helpful. They came across as dismissive and uninterested. Good customer service should involve patience, respect, and a willingness to assist customers, but unfortunately, none of that was shown during my experience. It left me feeling frustrated, undervalued, and unwilling to return. I hope management takes this feedback seriously and addresses the poor attitude and lack of support provided by their staff. Myself and my Family made the decision to drive to the next Marina which was less than 2 minutes down the road. The staff at Nichol End Marine were much more welcoming warm and kind, extremely helpful and a willingness to assist. I would definitely recommend.

We went there without much information or experience, but we were able to navigate through. There's a large parking space and space designated for buses and coaches. Small shops and restaurants nearby. You can buy a ticket for a boat cruise - paddle boats, self driving auto, and touring boats that can seat almost 200 people available. Your ticket can be for a single destination or round journey. A round trip takes about 45-60min. You can get a map to help you with navigation on site. There's a waterfall on one site. Hotels and other accommodations are around but could be expensive if not booked earlier on. There's a hotel and spa near the waterfall. You can bring your own boat to the lakeside and ride into the lake, with no restrictions or payment. There's a beautiful garden around. You can feed the duck and take pictures (duck food 50p). Overall a lovely experience
Femi A — Google review
Amazing views from the whole trip round. Inner peace and a sense of calm can be found on the lake. Really good prices for a day ticket. Can hop on or off and any other dock but we stayed on for the full hour. We booked for 1 adult and 2 children and they loved it. Can also buy duck food for 50p which my boys loved doing before boarding. Just perfect!
Sarah P — Google review
Helpful information provided and the boat tour was amazing. Allows you to see a lot of the Lake District for a small charge of £11. The boats are fairly regular and just advise the captain/sailor boarding the boat what stops you want to get off at (grab a map inside the information hut).
Khisha T — Google review
Excellent tour on the river. We stopped off to see the water falls but without a map and no signage we were unable to find them. Like a number of other people walking around looking. Other than that an excellent day out

This was one of my higlights, of my week, in the Lake District. Dog friendly and free. It was a reasonable price of 12.50 for hop on hop off. We went round the lake once which takes 50 minutes and then went round again and got off to explore. Staff were very friendly and approachable. A beautiful and safe way to exore the Lake. There is a car park a 3 minute walk from here. I would recommend this boat than the others as more of a hidden gem and quieter than Windmere Lake.

Great launch operating on Derwentwater from Keswick. Boats leave from the lakeside every half hour until 3.30 pm in the summer, alternating between clockwise and anticlockwise routes. Stopping off at various jetties around the lake with terrific views of the fells. If you sit outside at the front you will get splashed!

Fun boat trips around Derwent water, amazingly dogs welcome too!
Mat R — Google review
We took a round trip just for sightseeing purposes. The boats are relatively small wooden boats which move along at a moderate pace, allowing plenty of time to soak in the beautiful views, and easily stand up to take photos during the 50 minute trip around and back to Keswick. At just under £11 per person, we both felt it was well worth the money.

When you find yourself in Keswick, make sure to carve out some time for a visit to The Keswick Cheese Deli. This charming little spot is a haven for cheese lovers, boasting an impressive selection of over 90 cheeses. You'll discover local delights from renowned Cumbrian producers like Thornby Moor Farm and Appleby Creamery, alongside favorites from across the UK such as Lancashire and Wensleydale.
The Keswick Cheese Deli offers a vast array of quality local (and further afield) cheeses from their cute shop in Keswick. They also offer an exceptional wedding service - our wedding cheesecake request was handled wonderfully well in September 2024 by Hayley, who hand delivered lovely wheels of Coverdale, Blue Whinnow, Smoked Cumberland Farmhouse and Eden Valley Brie along with local Cumbrian chutneys, an artisan savoury biscuit selection and lovely grapes. Very highly recommended.

Good cheese, really poor service. Staff too busy chatting to acknowledge customers. One of the woman was about as useful as a chocolate teapot in helping choose a cheese, she knew nothing about them. Weren't interested in selling any other sizes than the ones already pre-cut. At least the man seemed to know what he was talking about.

We had a very disappointing and upsetting experience at this shop. My friend and I walked in 8 minutes before closing. At the time we entered, there was already another customer inside the shop . We greeted the staff and had only just started to look at the shelves when the old lady who was working there rushed over and said: “We are closing. If you like to choose something, come back tomorrow morning.” We were surprised — on what basis could we -as tourists -decide if we liked something when we hadn’t even had a chance to see the products? and how can you ask foreign tourists to “come back tomorrow” when we are only in town for a short time? It makes no sense, and it felt dismissive. We left straight away without arguing. But to our shock, other customers entered after us, and even spent a good time inside before coming out with their goodies. As foreign tourists wearing the hijab, we cannot help but feel that we were treated differently because of how we look. This felt like discrimination and racism, and it left us deeply disappointed.

Will definitely be back next time we are down and would highly recommend.

This little gem of a shop is in the heart of the town centre in Pack Horse Court. Jo and her staff are very knowledgable about their wide selection of cheeses and can help you find the best one for your palette. They also bake instore and their quiches and scones are to die for! They provided the cheese wedding cake for my son's wedding - Jo came and set it up and decorated it and created this beautiful centre piece. We cut if up and presented each table with their own cheese board and every morsel was eaten. Lastly, if you like a mature cheddar you must try the Black Bomber!

Been to Keswick many times never thought to come to this pub till Wednesday night. Very warm welcome from waitress, she was so lovely finding us a seat and recommending the Goulash. Demonstrating size of dishes. Really lovely lady. Goulash was fabulous. Pub so friendly and cosy. Great place will never avoid again!!!!
Christine H — Google review
We were so lucky to grab a table when we arrived, a couple were just getting ready to leave, so we waited for the lady to get her belongings together, her husband was go to go but she took her time, I think to make a point, we had already asked her husband if we could have the table, but perhaps we should of asked her! Very comprehensive menu, lots of choices, we ordered the signature dish at the Dog & Gun, the Goulash ,and the chicken and ham pie. The Goulash comes with dumplings and garlic bread ,generous portions, but some of the potatoes were a bit hard. The chicken and ham pie was packed with meat, very tasty and came with buttery mash, I think it was piped, no lumps and presented in a very chefy way, the broccoli as tender and the little pan of gravy delicious. We took advantage of the blue light discount of 15%, using a qr code, and got CAMRA discount on the Theakstons Old Peculiar ale. Just a shame you can't book, as it's always busy, but if you wait until approx 7pm it seems to ease off, only got 4 stars on the food because the potatoes were a bit hard, but not worth complaining about. Best pub in Keswick for dog owners, everyone was very friendly and swapped dog stories.

An amazing place to walk around, with great views. But make sure that you set off early as it takes a good few hours to do the full circle as we found out due to having to go a longer way due to flooding. However we did manage to get these amazing photos of the lake.

Stunning!! Absolutely stunning! Visited late November. The leaves were off the trees so the views were spectacular! It's an easy 9.5 mile walk round. Clear paths. Very little climb and no styles. Short walks on roads. We went on a Wednesday, the weather was bright but cold. Lovely and quiet although I can imagine it gets very busy on weekends and holidays . Kettle well car park is National Trust so it is free to park for members. Lovely coffee van about a mile from St Mary's hotel.

Bar & grill
Fellpack is a warm and inviting cafe that has been serving all-in-one meals and hearty comfort food since 2017. The restaurant has expanded to open The Round and moved to a larger premises, reflecting the demand for its innovative dining options in Keswick. The menu offers a variety of dishes, including lamb dhansak, Cumbrian beef ragu, and vegan teriyaki seitan steak. The cozy atmosphere is complemented by welcoming staff who are passionate about their work.
Probably the best place I’ve had a meal at in a long time from a point of view of every element. It was the perfect meal! The food was super delicious - their menu is super diverse so you might have a tough time choosing a dish for yourself. I went with the chicken tarragon and pork belly bites and gosh they were just perfect. The most tender piece of meat probably I’ve had! Coming to the stars of the place I.e. their staff - they’re just too nice! And not like “nice” you see in other restaurants. They talk to you like “normal people” and not their “guests”. Definitely recommend it to everyone visiting Keswick!

Came here twice over 2 days, really lovely and satisfying meals, their breakfast was nice and filling ahead of a day's hike, especially the breakfast bap! The burrito bowl and mac n cheese we had for lunch the following day were lovely as well, and the banana bread was not too sweet. Mixed opinion on the ice cream though, which tasted a bit like frozen yoghurt. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and the place is comfortable to sit in :)

Stopped off here this afternoon for a late lunch and the food and drink was excellent. I had the special of Tarragon chicken on the menu and the Session IPA on draft which was flavourful and refreshing. Service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. Food and drink were served quickly. Really good food quality and really tasty.

Very cool and trendy place with full bar. Booking is highly recommended. They also have rooms but we didn’t stay here. There is public parking (pay and display) just a short walk away. Stay was very friendly. They are dog friendly so our dog was very welcomed.

Honestly one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten. The pork belly was so tender it fell apart. The sausage pasta melted in the mouth. The whipped feta was so creamy and balanced and the brownie was to die for. Not to mention the twist on the passionfruit martini was chefs kiss (and strong!). Could not recommend more. The servers were so lovely and friendly. I was spoilt for choice as everything sounded so lovely and our waitress helped me choose the most outstanding courses. Will be coming back!!!

We chose Fellpack for our penultimate dinner of the trip—but unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The food was good…not the best but we enjoyed our dishes (shrimp curry and the lamb with a dark chocolate dessert with orange liqueur). When we arrived, we were seated next to a large birthday party. The group was loudly playing games, shouting, and completely overtaking the atmosphere. It was so loud we could barely hear each other speak. All of the surrounding tables—mostly couples—looked equally uncomfortable, but no one said anything, perhaps assuming the staff would step in. When we quietly mentioned it to our waitress, we were surprised to learn that two of the guests at the table actually work at the restaurant. No apology, no acknowledgment—just an incredibly loud and awkward evening. Fellpack missed the mark on hospitality and atmosphere.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely meal at The Fellpack for a special birthday. The menu is limited but it suited us perfectly. Both our 'Fellpot' dishes and desserts were full of flavour, as were the cocktails which we had a treat. The atmosphere is contemporary but cosy, the staff were very attentive (one of us is coeliac) and friendly. Portion sizes could be a tiny bit larger. But overall we would definitely return!

This is a review for Alpacaly ever after - absolutely brilliant! Going back here again for the walk after feeding them the first time - well worth it if you are on the fence. Don’t miss the cafe whilst you’re there

The place here is absolutely stunning. It's always a picturesque view no matter where you go in lake district, and these gardens just enhance that beauty. The walk was lovely, the alpaca walk was very friendly and exciting and the cafe is very clean and caring. I would highly recommend coming here if you're on holiday.

We came to alpacaly ever after to walk the alpacas, while we were waiting we went I to the cafe here which was amazing. My partner had coffee and a brownie and you could just taste the quality. We then had a little look around the garden next to the cafe which was full of so many beautiful plants and flowers that it was worth the trip just to see them. Then we got to meet our alpacas for that day Dave and Theo who were so cute and had very funny personalities this was the best day of our whole week, I just wish we could have done it again! The staff were sooooo wonderful, chatty and bubbly and told us all about the alpacas a s the local area, she even took.😒 some photos for us and guided us on how to get the alpacas to pose 😂 best day.

Took boat trip round Derwent water from Keswick. Got of at Hawes end. From here you have to walk through Forrest on a well trodden path. Lovely walk on a nice day. Lindholm, not very well sign posted, but just ask fellow walkers or follow yourself on Google maps. Takes about 10 mins. The restaurant and grounds are lovely. Expect a wait, very busy. Staff are very friendly and food great. The views from terrace are also great. Not too pricey. Leaving Lindholm there is a sign posted path back to Keswick. Took about 20 mins. Slow walk or you can pop back on ferry. Leaves Hawes end at 20 to the hour. Great half day out. Look out for the blue Lindholm poppies.

We had a wonderful afternoon walking to Lingholm Estate, exploring the gardens and partaking in some of their gorgeous food. You can imagine Peter Rabbit and his friends playing in the walled vegetable garden; the atmosphere is very serene, straight out of a book. We couldn't resist trying about 5 cakes; all amazing. It's well worth the trek from Keswick (you can walk along the northern side in just over an hour; you can walk the long way around if you have more time; or take the Keswick Launch boat across), highly recommend.

Golden Hills Chinese Keswick is a popular restaurant in the heart of the Lake District, known for its top-quality food, excellent service, and great value for money. It's a favorite among both tourists and locals, offering a diverse menu that caters to vegetarians and vegans as well. The restaurant is often bustling with customers enjoying dishes like duck with green pepper and black bean sauce or king prawns with egg fried rice.
My favourite restaurant from my holiday to Keswick. The food was excellent and would definitely visit again. I recommend that you get there as the doors open as the place was full almost instantly. Great service, would recommend to friends visiting the area.

We get a take away from here everytime we're in Keswick or around the area, unfortunately this time the food was under par, the fried rice was OK, the crispy chicken in Honey and chilli was far from crispy, and the chips looked about 3 days old with the texture of cardboard, unfortunately we won't be coming back
Mark W — Google review
Wouldn’t even give this to my dogs! Worse takeaway I have ever had! Didn’t look appealing in the containers had to cook it in the oven to try make it edible but was unsuccessful so whole lot went in the bin 😞😞

Thos takeaway gave me and my partner a really bad stomach, and it was strange food covered in oots of sugar...the crispy beef looked strange. I think it might might have been covered in sugar to cover tye fact it was old 🤔

+ generous portions + the chicken in the chicken in green pepper and black bean sauce was soft, tender and juicy + the chicken fried rice was flavourful - the staff was not welcoming; infact all staff members seemed cold and very transactional - the schezwan prawns had a chilli sign beside it on the menu indicating it would be spicy, but the prawns tasted sweet instead - asked for a blackcurrant cordial with soda but was served with water instead - the Diet Coke was flat

Nichol End Marine, a small cafe and boat launch situated on the shores of Derwentwater in Portinscale, was highly recommended by a local celiac bed & breakfast host in Keswick. This marina offers various rental services including paddle boards and kayaks at affordable prices. They provide wet suits and water proof bags as part of the rental package, making it convenient for customers who need more than one item.
Few families went together just an hour before closing. Half tried canoeing and the boats. They seemed to enjoy it. Too cold for me to try. Used the bathroom to freshen up and enjoy some hot drinks and scone. Good service at the cafe.

Me and my family had a fantastic experience renting 2 kayaks and a rowing boat from Nichol End Marine today. All members of staff were very welcoming, kind, knowledgeable, and made the whole process really easy. We were given an explanation of equipment available to rent and what would be suitable for us. We were also given the option to book online or as a walk in and provided safety information before taking the equipment out on the water. I felt safe and well-prepared before heading out on the water. The location was beautiful, and the staff provided advice where to explore first. Everything was smooth and stress-free, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I’d definitely rent from them again in the future and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun day on the water!

I had an absolutely outstanding experience with Nichol End Marine. From start to finish, their customer service was exceptional. The team was professional, approachable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. They were knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely cared about ensuring we had the best possible experience on the water. The equipment was well-maintained, clean, and easy to use, giving us complete confidence during our trip. What really stood out, though, was how attentive and accommodating the staff were — nothing was too much trouble, and they made the entire process stress-free and enjoyable. It’s rare to find a company that combines top-quality service, reliability, and genuine hospitality so well. I will definitely be returning and highly recommend Nichol End Marine to anyone looking for a first-class marine hire experience.

Totally enjoyable experience with something to take away at the end of the lesson. One of our party was so thrilled, she had never been able to do any craft before yet managed to complete her plant pot holder and was so enthused she went away determined to carry on doing Macrame. In addition to its excellent selection of locally roasted coffee and homemade cakes, George Fisher provides a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle of Keswick's town center.
A shop full of amazing kit and highly knowledgeable staff. I went in looking for some new boots and the gentleman who I spoke to was so helpful. He measured my feet and instep, concluded that I had quite narrow feet (which was probably the cause of blisters in my previous boots) and found me the perfect pair! The Keswick to Threlkeld Railway Trail is a stunning riverside path that has been restored after being destroyed by Storm Desmond. This 5-year project led by the Lake District National Park has resulted in a picturesque and accessible trail, suitable for prams and wheelchairs. The flat, smooth surface offers scenic views of the River Greta gorge.
Fantastic walk from Keswick to Threlkeld along the old railway route pity there are no toilets on the way. Threlkeld nice little place. Great coffee shop in Threlkeld to get some refreshment. If you don't want to walk back there are buses £2 into Keswick, the stop is very close to the coffee shop.
MrLespaul2000 — Google review
Nice easy walk into Threlkeld. It starts off a bit dull at the Keswick end, but once out in the open, it's much nicer. River Greata is beautiful, and the surrounding hills are magnificent on a sunny day. Bear in mind that if you want to make it to the pubs in Threlkeld, it's about another km walk. We walked back via Castlerigg Stone Circle which is probably a nicer walk, albeit mostly on quiet roads (with hills) with a few field sections. Because it's higher up, the views on both sides are visible and on a fine day, make this detour, well worth the extra effort. The community coffee shop in Threlkeld looked amazing & I'd highly recommend you go there if it's a hot drink you're after. The views from their terrace are fab & the place had a nice village vibe. We opted for beer in a pub however so didn't get to enjoy the coffee on this occasion. 😉

Interesting reading the periodic information boards detailing the building of and uses of the railway before it eventually closed ans eventually turned into a lovely walkway/cycleway. Also, details of destruction caused by storm Desmond in 2015 and subsequent expensive restoration and bridge rebuilds. An excellent leisurely walk.

Catbells is a 1,480-foot-high fell summit in the Lake District, offering panoramic views of the surrounding lakeland. The 3.5-mile hike to the summit takes around 2.5 hours and is popular among both locals and visitors due to its manageable difficulty level and stunning vistas of Derwentwater and the surrounding fells.
Great quick summit trip for our 1st trip to the lakes. The sunset was amazing from up there too. Was a little busy for our liking, but there was an excellent view all around and the colours of the sunset.
James B — Google review
A brilliant hike within walking distance from Keswick. As a ‘larger’ man, hill walking and hiking are not my speciality but Catbells provided a good mix of inclines which allow for plenty of rests if needed. The views of Derwentwater are great and the different routes to the summit provide choices for hikers.

Very recommend this hike if in Keswick. At one point seemed a but steep climb , but keep going , the views will not disappoint. Took me 1.5 hours to complete
Inese — Google review
A must-do, and perfect for families! The views are absolutely stunning — and the promise of ice cream at the end kept my kids motivated all the way. It can get busy, but everyone we met was friendly and respectful. The loop is about 3.5–3.7 miles with around 1,200 feet of elevation gain. It’s demanding but absolutely doable with a steady pace. Just be sure to bring plenty of water!

Elite, tier 1, lingering loveliness. Catbells is a stunning wee hike. Don’t front on it. Mix it up with a lakeside amble followed by a pint or three at the Swinside Inn makes for one almighty afternoon

Great views. Walked and returned from Keswick with Sid the Border Terrier. Little bit of easy scrambling. Descended via old quarry and along Newlands Valley.
Ian S — Google review
If you're not very fit it's hard work but worth it for the breathtaking views. You need to take water and wear proper footwear. It's not as long a walk as it seems but it is a steep incline. I went on a Sunday when it was 20°c and it was very busy. Parking was very easy and £5 for the day, but it was on a field (bear this in mind if you're in a 2 wheel drive car in bad weather!). Easy walk down to Derwent water for a picnic, walk, or a swim if you're brave enough.
Kate R — Google review
It was our first family hike. You need to be at certain level of fitness to do it. It is family friendly but at times it can be dangerous. I would highly recommend to have hiking sticks. It helps massively. Especially towards the end. At slow pace you can make to the top and go down in 3 hours

Lake District Wildlife Park, located in Bassenthwaite near Keswick, is a 24-acre wildlife park that houses over 100 species of animals from around the world. Visitors can encounter a variety of charming creatures such as lemurs, zebras, meerkats, lynx, red pandas, and more. The park also features reptiles like Beauty the boa constrictor and offers daily bird of prey displays.
Great place. Great location. Suitable for all. Outstanding bird of prey show (on twice a day), returning in future on strength of this alone. Buy feed bags on entry for the goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs and alpacas. Restaurant is very reasonably priced and despite being advised a 30 minute wait, it was only 5 mins. For those who can't walk far, the distance around the park is reasonable, flat and plenty of places to sit for a rest. Looking forward to seeing how the Bald Eagle training develops, and learn about Vultures... inspired. Enjoy it here, got a great feel to it, outstanding scenery, relaxed and take the scenic route back!

There is a good variety of animals, from zebras and meerkats to birds of prey, and the enclosures are spacious and well looked after. There is a picnic area outside, dine inside, gift shop, toilets. You can feed some animals with special food from the shop. Generous parking. Overall it was a pleasant experience!

We went in November because we were trying to find something to do because the weather was too bad for our hiking plans, and I am so so glad we found this little gem of a place. The value for money is amazing for all the animals you see. We thought we'd found somewhere to kill a couple of hours but ended up spending 5 hours there and it was easily the best day of our holiday. The staff are so friendly and informative; being able to see the lynx, red panda and gibbon feeds was amazing and the owl display/ talk was really special. Firmly recommend (it is still outdoors so dress accordingly)

Lovely place to spend a few hours surrounded by nature and animals. The park isn’t very big but it’s well laid out and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Great variety of animals and nice talks throughout the day. Some areas could use a little refresh and the café is a bit pricey, but overall a very enjoyable visit. Perfect for families and animal lovers.

Great wildlife park, the birds of prey event is brilliant, with very passionate and informative staff, I would really recommend this if you go... Lots of improvement works going on, (we look forward to seeing new animal pens etc next time we come) however this didn't spoil our second trip to the park. My family and I really like this site, it's not too big, so your not walking miles and it's much nicer than the typical main steam zoos. There are facilities on site: restaurant, shop, toilets, hand washing stations, children's adventure play and you are able to buy feed, to feed certain animals. So a great site and were looking forward to the current improvement works being completed.

Great place to visit, not like a regular zoo. There are conservation projects they are aligned with such as the one for vultures. Micheala does an amazing bird of prey talk, she's very knowledgeable and her interaction with the birds she uses in her display is lovely to watch. She is very passionate, especially about vultures. The park has lots of animals, birds and reptiles and there are plenty of opportunities to hand feed which we all loved. Free parking, accessible, not too big that you feel the need to rush to see everything. There's a cafe and play park on site too. It's a great place for a day out.

A great start to a few days in the lakes. Plenty of well looked after animals and birds of prey to be seen, displays and talks. Shop, toilets and places to eat. Can easily spend a good few ours here. 👍

Whinlatter Forest, England's only mountain forest, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. It offers a variety of walking and biking trails suitable for different skill levels. The 8km Quercus Trail is perfect for confident bikers, winding through the lower section of the forest and providing stunning views of northern fells.
To find something really good and free in the UK is a rarity these days. OK- so parking is not free if you choose to park, and the cafe is not free either. But the use of the well marked and maintained trails is free. There are bike trails for all abilities. There are great walking trails, too. I'll definitely be back.

Whinlatter is an amazing place for the whole family! The serene atmosphere is perfect for a calming and relaxing walk. There are scenic routes for all abilities, from beginner routes for children to slightly more challenging routes for the more experience hikers. Highly recommend

Great walks with amazing views. Stopped off at the lookout , had a lovely chat with a ranger there. Beautiful wildlife and managed to watch some gorgeous Red Squirrels. Made my holiday .

Rented a mountain bike at the cycle centre. Great staff set me up with a cracking bike. They recommend the south red route to start. Great trail, a mixture of tails and forest tracks. Challenging and enjoyable. Then the red route north, again great trail. A bit of a drag up to the top, the descent now than made up for it! In and out for the forest drops and flowing down the hill. The blue route, faster and not so technical. Still great fun. Defo worth a visit and a few hours on the trails.

Whinlatter Forest is an incredible destination for anyone who loves the outdoors. The mountain bike trails are some of the best in the UK, with routes to suit all levels of experience — from smooth, scenic tracks to thrilling downhill runs that test your skills. Hikers will also find plenty to enjoy, with well-marked paths weaving through lush woodland and offering stunning views across the Lake District. It’s a place where you can truly disconnect and immerse yourself in nature. Beyond the trails, Whinlatter offers a real sense of peace and adventure. There are plenty of camping spots that make it easy to turn a day trip into a full off-grid experience, surrounded by the sights and sounds of wildlife. Deer, birds, and red squirrels are often seen in the forest, adding to the magic of being so close to nature. Whether you’re cycling, hiking, or just relaxing under the trees, Whinlatter Forest is a brilliant escape from the modern world.

Very clean and well looked after. The Gruffalo trail took around 1 hour with a toddler walking. Only feedback is to make it clearer on the map where this trail begins from the carpark and entrance. We had to ask someone who said to go through the building past the toilets and to the other side we’ll see a sign, map didn’t show this route at the main entrance. Great shop here and the cafe was nice too
Catriona P — Google review
Something for everyone here! Play area, go ape, segways, wildlife, bike tracks and some nice walks. Every route is well signposted. Only thing that let it down was overpriced drinks (£4.30 for a latte!) And the astronomical eye-watering car park charge was outrageous!

A huge boulder, which sits on its side and is estimated to weigh around 2000 tons, rests atop a metal staircase. The Bowder Stone was thought to have fallen from a nearby crag during the Ice Age, but recent research has shown that it fell from its current location due to the weight of ice and snow. Visitors can explore the rock by climbing up the metal staircase or stepping onto its unstable surface.
Such lovely spot. Free member parking for National Trust. Nice ladder up to the top and a short pleasant walk through the wood. Nice walk down to a pebble beach from the car park. Lovely area and highly recommended to see.

The Bowder Stone is such an amazing sight and well worth the short walk to see it. It’s hard to believe how huge it is when you stand beside it, and the little steps up the side make it even more fun to explore. The path is easy and surrounded by lovely woodland with views of the fells.

A lovely little potter for small legs. Took a 4 & 2 Yr old up it and they loved it (their mother was a little more anxious when they were at the top and she realised there was no railing!). It's a nice idea, and I particularly loved the old sign that they have retained calling it the "Largest Fragment of Rock in the World". We had a good chuckle about what the difference between a rock and a fragment of rock is (particularly when it's so huge!).

We visited Keswick today and absolutely loved it! Nestled in the Lake District, this charming town offers stunning natural views – but what really stood out to me was the architecture. Many of the houses looked like something out of a fairy tale – beautiful stone cottages with slate roofs and whimsical charm. At times, it felt like walking through a storybook village. The whole place has such a cosy and magical atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit if you’re into nature, cute towns, and dreaming of cottage life! #Keswick #LakeDistrict #FairyTaleVibes #HiddenGemsUK

Couldn't stay out of this place 😆. Got great information regarding buses on the first day (wanted to avoid using the car at all - complete success). Found out if once we'd enquired about the boat trip that if you booked here you got a £1.50 discount per person. Also ended up going back in and buying binoculars, which one of the chaps had plenty of knowledge about & even went back yet another day to buy some magnets & a book. Everyone we encountered each time was friendly and very helpful and even asked how our trips had been. Definitely worth a visit if you need any sort of local information about the area

Surprise View is a picturesque viewpoint overlooking Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite lakes. The views are amazing, and it's easy to see why it's one of the most popular tourist attractions in the Lake District. There are plenty of parking options, and the road is narrow so it's not hard to find.
A beautiful tranquil walk through the pine forest with the sound of the waterfall bouncing of the trees. Our two GSD cooled off in the stream as we neared the hidden little cafe. Signs entering the various walks warn of 'rugged terrain' but I'm 66 and found the well maintained paths and steps fairly easy to navigate. I'd say give it a go, the views of tge neighbouring mountains and lakes are spectacular.
Stuart M — Google review
The road to this viewpoint is narrow but absolutely beautiful, lined with trees and ferns, and even featuring a charming little stone bridge. The drive itself is wonderfully scenic. Parking is available at the top, making access easy. We arrived around 6 p.m., and the lighting at that hour was simply stunning. If you enjoy hiking, I highly recommend it. While the viewpoint offers a lovely perspective, hiking allows you to experience the landscape from multiple angles and fully appreciate its beauty.

Surprise View: A view that lives up to its name! From the top, you are greeted with a sweeping panoramic view over the full expanse of Derwentwater. The road is very narrow but has passing places. We were glad for the small National Trust car park right at the top, making it easy to hop out and take in the view. This is a must-do for anyone in the area, whether you're a serious hiker or just want to enjoy one of the Lake District's best viewpoints without a demanding trek. Don't miss this spot if you're in the Keswick area. The name 'Surprise View' is perfectly fitting, and it offers one of the most rewarding views for minimal effort.

No problem parking and the disabled bays were all empty. Lovely for me to be able to get up and see a view when I was poorly and not able to walk far after brain surgery. I'll be walking next time and hopefully carry on to Bouder stone and Castle cragg, I heard there was a cafe too but it might not be open now.
Rachel T — Google review
Fantastic drive up and the view is stunning. The only downside is The national trust seem to think they own the Lake District with their £5.50 parking charges for 2 hours, more if you want to stay longer, they do this everywhere😱but hey if your a regular hiker or photographer it would be worth the annual join, for everyone else pure rip off. Just factor parking charges in to your holiday budget and you will be fine.

Superb view over Derwent Water well worth the trip. Accessible via small narrow road (with passing places) close to Ashness Bridge. Car Park opposite.

An awesome and unbelievably stunning spot to view the Derwent river & Derwentwater lake and the surrounding hills from peak top. There are quite few parking options, which you can avail by paying using credit/ debit card or pay by phone app. You can also see the Ashness Bridge. If you keep driving forward on this road for another 1 or 2 miles you can also see cow farms and pastures.

Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum offers a unique experience in the Lake District, providing insight into the region's industrial heritage. Visitors can enjoy a narrow-gauge rail ride into the quarry, explore vintage machinery exhibits, and take underground tours of a copper mine. The museum also offers mineral panning activities for families. The site features a variety of mining equipment set against a stunning mountain backdrop.
A wonderful visit! Staff and volunteers were knowledgeable and engaging and showed a real pride to be there. I thoroughly enjoyed the railway and learning about its history and its exciting future. The museum was jam packed with information, exhibits, photographs and artefacts along with a quaint little gift shop. The quarry had tons of interesting and historic vehicles and equipment a short walk from the museum. Plenty of space for parking with a few benches to sit outside. Based on the customer service and the amount of stuff to see, I would highly recommend visiting!

A fantastic place to spend a few hours! You can immerse yourself in the area’s rich mining history and explore fascinating vintage machinery. Hop aboard the steam train for a scenic ride up to the quarry face and back, then enjoy panning for gemstones in the stream — a hit with both kids and adults.

Visited October half term 2025. Had a great day out here with the kids and dogs too. Dogs are welcome anywhere, even in the museum and on the steam train, which was a bonus. The museum is only small but it’s very well laid out, packed full of items and history. The steam train takes you around to the end of the quarry site, where you can get out and briefly explore a large dumper truck and excavator, before heading back to the engine house. There is a lot of surrounding grounds to explore at your leisure full of endless old heavy duty machinery, including trucks, excavators, and cranes etc. The staff were also very friendly. Highly recommend a visit.
Adam S — Google review
Dedicated to our past quarrying heritage. The museum is going to be moved to a new building, however the longer and slower you go around the museum the more interesting it becomes. A place to learn a lot about the area and our past. Really enjoyed my visit.
Roy H — Google review
Great experience. Didn’t know what to expect and we were positively surprised. Informative small museum set up by knowledgeable volunteers, and a short ride in a really cute narrow gauge steam train through the old granite quarry. The quarry has become a sort of resting place for a ton of old mining equipment, mostly excavators most of which are still in working order. Don’t expect polished and shiny machines, this stuff looks like it did when it finally stopped being used. Highlight for us was an engaging conversation with a lovely gentleman who was “playing” with his excavator and the owner of the quarry. Two very genuine characters with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
David B — Google review
If I'm completely honest, I think we had high expectations coming here having visited some excellent mining museums in the past. The museum itself has a lot of information about mining in the area, and the geology. Around the grounds are lots of pieces of equipment, which parents seem to let their kids climb all over (not sure they're supposed to). There's also a place for kids to pan for something. There is a steam train which is cool, and although it does take you to the quarry - it's a little underwhelming when you get there. There's plenty of parking, and it looks like it might be a campsite of sorts as well. Canbot fault the staff or their enthusiasm and dedication however!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum – A Fascinating Journey into the Earth’s History! Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum is an incredible place that brings geology and industrial heritage to life! Nestled in a scenic part of the Lake District, it’s a great spot for both adults and kids to explore and learn about mining history, machinery, and the fascinating world beneath our feet. The museum is well-organised, with detailed displays about the quarry’s past, tools, and minerals found in the region. One of the highlights is the underground mine tour — it’s short, safe, and gives a real sense of what life was like for miners working deep in the rock. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to share stories and explain things in detail. The outdoor area with large vintage mining machines is also impressive and fun to explore. I also bought a few mineral stones and crystals from their gift shop — they were beautiful, reasonably priced, and a lovely keepsake from the visit. If you love geology, history, or just want an interesting day out in nature with a bit of adventure, this museum is definitely worth visiting. A hidden gem in the Lake District! ⛏️💎🏔️

Mirehouse & Gardens is a serene 17th-century manor house located near Keswick, offering a glimpse into literary and artistic history. The house boasts manuscripts from Francis Bacon and letters from renowned figures like Constable, Tennyson, and Wordsworth. The meticulously restored gardens feature stunning sights such as Scots Pines planted in 1784, a bee garden, and a wildflower meadow.
We were staying in nearby accommodation and decided to spend a few hours out and about with our kids We found this on Google and seemed like a great place with nice walks, playground, toilets and a small cafe. Parking available,up to £12 for a full day. You need to purchase the ground and house entry tickets from the old saw mill cafe. We got a coffee and walked down to the Lake, then eat our picknic within the grounds and spent a little time in the onsite play area. Afterwards we did the Blue circular walk, fairly steep hill up and down, but our 6-9 year olds managed well enough. Great spot for spending a few hours in nature.

Lovely, extensive gardens to lake shore. Beautiful well kept , maintained house, with helpful staff and loads of history..

I testing old house whose family had connections to Tennyson and Francis Bacon. Downstairs only but many interesting items. The walks in the grounds are also good. The Lakeside path is more a Woodland path for most of it but when you get beside the lake it is beautiful. The garden near the house is lovely and quiet with poems by David Scott at the end of the Poetry Walk; somewhere to sit and watch enjoy nature. The bee garden ( which is only accessible from the drive and not by the house) is worth a wander.
Philip R — Google review
I found myself approaching from the public footpath that passes by St Bega’s Church. It’s a bit confusing where to pay or show my Historic Houses membership from this side, so I would suggest some signage could be added, rather than the constant ‘Ticket holders only’ signs. I eventually realised I had to walk across the road to the tearoom. Otherwise there’s a lot to gain from visiting. I would say the lakeside trail is perhaps one of the best spots to access Bassenthwaite Lake. I say down on the little shingle beach to eat a packed lunch with a backdrop of Canadian geese gliding across the water. At the house no photos are allowed inside and to be honest it’s not spectacular enough for me to regret that. But as ever with these places there are some interesting stories hidden within the objects on display, and plenty of literary and poetry connections (Tennyson, Southey, Fitzgerald and Carlyle) as befits the Lake District. The gardens are small and not particularly impressive, although the overall landscaping (mix of fields, woodland, stream, and the poetry trail, alongside the beauty of the hills behind) add up.

House was shut but gardens open and nice walks round the estate. Good parking and cafe across the road. Visited St Bega's church. Sat by the lake.

This place is for all nature lovers. The autumnal colourful leaves, the mud on your sleeves! Not for your average wheelchair user unless you like to get muddy and have an all terrain wheelchair/ scooters. The lakeside walk was a challenge, but manageable wouldn't recommend doing alone as the gates are awkward to open and to shut. Plus, trying to push through mud and sheep dung wasn't a nice experience! But the scenery was breathtaking. The house was closed, so we didn't experience that part. It is better to do when the weather is dry and less muddy! They need a pedestrian traffic light/ zebra crossing as it's a busy road to cross from the car park to the house with speeding vehicles. Especially if you're a wheelchair user or have children with you.
H D — Google review
We couldn't go in the house itself as dogs not allowed in so just went around the gardens very impressed some of the gates were stiff to open we had to come back on ourselves near the end of the walk due to the cows in the field, there was no way we were going to chance it having our dog with us ,but apart from that we enjoyed ourselves. I will also add that the lovely lady who checked our tickets did forewarn us that the farmer moves his cattle around and that we might have to double back on ourselves so we were warned . The weather was lovely and warm so the experience was a pleasant one not sure if it had been raining has some of the paths were quite boggy and slippy but we had a nice time .We parked over the road from the house and the parking was the sort where you pay when you are ready to leave which is a brilliant way has we knew if we were clock watching it would spoil our visit

Hi everyone this is a nice so see the derwentwater half way up to surprise view. Has car park so great for walk starts . No toilets mind . We had picnic on the Rocks . Lovely spot
R S — Google review
Ashness bridge is considered the most photographed most photographed bridge in the Lake District. The bridge was designed to be narrow and humped with low sides for the caravans of pack-horses that used to transport heavy loads. They carried their burdens in large packs that bulged out on both sides. The low parapets of the bridge was meant for the animals that wouldn't get stuck if their loads were Particularly wide. The area around the bridge is very scenic, worth visiting it. There is enough parking facility nearby.

Ashness Bridge is an iconic Lake District spot, and it did not disappoint. We visited on a misty October afternoon, which gave the ancient stonework a wonderfully atmospheric feel. Not too busy, easy to access. You have a car park very close.

Picturesque views around this narrow packhorse bridge, a great place to begin multiple different hikes. The river flows wildly with heavy rainfall and becomes a more peaceful and quiet stream when there's minimal rain.

Absolutely spectacular views of Derwentwater, Keswick and the northwestern fells. Short walk (2-3km) from the Great Wood car park (National Trust) up Cat Gill - quite steep but you'll be over the worst of it inside 20-30 minutes. Worth it for the views!

This is a fairly quick and straight forward hike up to Walla Crag, up and down took approximately two hours. You can walk here from Keswick town easily. There are two sign posted routes at the base, round and gradual and straight up. Both have steep inclines at points to get the heart racing. At the top you are surrounded by an incredible panoramic view of the neighbouring crags, Derwent water lake, Catbells and Skiddaw. From here you can either head back down or follow a trail to the next points from Bleaberry Fell onwards. Dog friendly.

Quick hike up from the lake side (can be steep at points, so beware if you have small children or less intrepid dogs, you can take a slightly friendlier path from the Castlerigg area). Gorgeous views.
Claudio — Google review
Fun hike. Takes around 2 hours with a stop for lunch at the top. Car park was expensive (£5). We did the loop and the climb up was gradual but the climb down was very steep and rocky.
Niall B — Google review
Lovely walk, beautiful views over Derwentwater to Catbells. Steep in places and maybe challenging for those with mobility issues but not too difficult. It's quite open up on the top so pack a spare layer and waterproofs.
Gareth M — Google review
Beautiful walk- however be warned when the snow has set and it’s rained it gets very slippy / muddy and messy- don’t wear trainers like we did 😆 but we made it. Footpaths are very easy and accessible - lots of parking! Pics/videos below
Z — Google review
Amazing views! Incredible place, not a long climb.
Nicolas C — Google review
A fairly manageable walk for beginners until it gets a little more challenging towards the peak due to the rough and steep climbs up, but nothing too crazy! That said, the views are 100% worth it - even though we visited on a cloudy day, the views of the town and surrounding fells from the summit were absolutely stunning. Be sure to wear proper shoes!

Castles
Castle Crag is a small hill with a rugged peak, offering a walking trail that provides sweeping valley views. Despite being the lowest of Wainwrights 214 fells at only 985 ft (300m) high, it offers impressive views along Derwentwater all the way to Skiddaw. The walk from Seatoller is mostly moderate but includes an extremely steep final climb with loose shale. However, the effort is well worth it for the astonishing views at the summit.
Just speechless.... Fantastic climb and day out for all the family, not too hard either so young kids will be fine also 👌🏻 2 route to go round so up one down another and the one to the right is all grass so take care not to slip unlike me as picture of shorts reveling 😂😂

One of the easier to climb. Views from top are fab. Nice walk to this from borrowdale. 5-10 min along the woods and lovely clean river . Nice wee village cafe for food , or along to the Borrowdale Gates Hotel for great food. Across from the hotel is a lovely walk uphill. To castle cragg is a good campsite and loos. X

Walked up Castle Crag from Rosthwaite. Wonderful walk, steady but some steeper bits with loose scree towards the summit. Really beautiful and memorable walk
Chloe D — Google review
The view is well worth the effort of hiking this hill. The path was steep in parts and was easy to follow. Hiking poles will likely be appreciated, especially the slate section (but we didn't have any and fared ok). Plenty of other families and dogs on the trail, but not so many to feel overly touristy.

Out of all of the Wainwright's ice done this is the most surreal it's almost like the Alps I really enjoyed my time there today 💙
S.O.D. — Google review
Really impressed with this Wainwright. Great history, slate quarried top, beautiful little climb and stunning views all the way down the Borrowdale valley.
David H — Google review
Slightly tough walk up to the top in rather wild weather conditions, but worth the climb. Great views up the valley despite being an awful day.
Jean L — Google review
Nice walk! Easy enough for the little ones as far as the foot of castle crag itself as its all loose slate.

Hey what a great adventure!! Massive thanks to Harvey for a great experience, for being a fantastic instructor and a truly inspirational guy. My daughter and I really enjoyed the ghyll scrambling but more so we were inspired by you and your story. You gave excellent instruction and encouragement on the ghyll and had great local knowledge to share which really enhanced our experience. You kind nature and passion for your work really inspired us both and you are a great role model, we came away absolutely buzzin!! We can not recommend this experience highly enough.

Went Ghyll Scrambling today with Harvey as our instructor. It was brilliant, he was great at getting our nervous nine year old through everything and she came out buzzing! Great fun, and would definitely recommend Newlands Adventure Centre

My 10 year old granddaughter and I went kayaking. We were guided by Nathan, and really enjoyed our afternoon. Good clear instructions and support throughout, individually tailored session for us. Nathan was great with my Granddaughter, patient, friendly and accommodating. Would love to come back and try other activities .
Judith L — Google review
My two sons and I did rock climbing and kayaking and loved every minute of both. Will and Harvey were excellent instructors who explained everything clearly and made the activities a lot of fun. Will definitely use Newlands again next time we visit the Lakes.

We come to the lake district every year, but this is the first time we've come here for some organized fun. Had a brilliant time, and Harvey was a great guide. We'll be back next year!

Went ghyll scrambling and absolutely loved it. The instructors were great at catering for all abilities, really supportive and fun. Highly recommend it.

Ghyll scramble was amazing fun! Our guide Harvey loved the scramble and this was so infectious, he ensured everyone had a brilliant time!
Alastair L — Google review
Went for Ghyll scrambling, the instructor was amazing helping my boys up the hill to the top after they had tired legs from the day before. His knowledge was amazing and though my boys were not wanting to do more than a couple due to the fast current he was calm and understanding. A great place and one that we will visit again when they are a little older. Thanks again.

Binsey, the most northerly fell in the Lake District, stands as a solitary mountain separated from the rest of Lakeland. It offers an easy climb from Bewaldeth and is perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll. The ascent begins with a pleasant walk along a tree-lined lane before leading to smooth grassy slopes that take you to the fantastic summit viewpoint.
Plenty of layby parking at the bottom of the footpath. Nice walk up Binsey. Oly 1 mile to the top so easy for kids to do, too. Ideal for dog walks or people ticking off Wainwright's! There were quite a few people on the hill. Great trig at the top.
Donna W — Google review
Beautiful spot and a very easy Wainwright to do. Straight up and down hike easily done in half an hour if you are coming up from the small car park at the Southern end. There are a variety of other hiking options too. Commanding views out over the rest of the fells.
David H — Google review
Easy parking for about 6 cars at Binsey Lodge, hard standing, no facilities. Go through the Gate and then a walk for about 50 minutes up a steepish hill will take you to the summit. Great walk for the family, with great views of Bassenthwaite and north of Cumbria and across the Solway firth.
Mathew B — Google review
Nice and easy walk, beautiful scenery.
Kat K — Google review
Wow, this isn't the highest of Wainwright's, but it's got lovely views and is easy to walk up. I parked in a lay by and just walked straight up. It's about a 1.5-mile round trip. Can be extremely windy on the top despite not being that high.
Hannah W — Google review
Big view for short walk

Great little morning walk for the kids and dog. We arrived at 9.30am and it was quiet, by 11am it was getting busier. What3words for the parking layby is ///factoring.pulps.salon

Very enjoyable short but steep in places. Most of the ascent is done by car if needed but parking is limited at the bottom. Path is well marked with great views of Bassenthwaite as you walk up. Terrain is good and not tricky but it is slightly steep in places, 81 year old in our party made the ascent taking time easily achieved .

Museums
Heaton Cooper Studio Ltd, located in Grasmere, is a gallery showcasing the works of the renowned Heaton Cooper family, known for their paintings of the Lake District and surrounding areas. The studio offers a wide range of artwork including originals, limited edition prints, and basic prints with or without frames. Visitors can also explore an adjoining gallery featuring guest painters' work.
Grasmere is a lovely village situated right by the lake, with many historic and picturesque views and worth visiting if you are in the area. So it's unfortunate that the cafes, hotels and shops are distinctly average, a bit tatty and down market, definitely pitched at the mass market, even though the prices are anything but budget. So we were really pleased to visit the gallery and cafe and discover such a good quality, interesting and well thought out business this summer. The gallery sells and exhibits a range of contemporary artists in oil, pastel and water colour. The pieces are very eclectic and someone has spent a lot of time and thought curating the works. The shop also sells a good selection of high quality art supplies, books and other stylish goods. The cafe that is attached to the gallery is great. I think it may have a Swedish theme. And unlike the rest of the village, it sells delicious barista coffee, fantastic cakes and a range of savoury plates.....the gourmet, Swedish, hot dogs are a favourite of our family. It has been a continual frustration about the village that, despite it's beautiful location and popularity, there has not been anywhere decent to eat or drink, and none of the businesses pitch their offering above 'bang average'. So it's great that Heaton and Cooper are there and doing something different. Long may it continue!
Peter H — Google review
Beautiful prints of the Lake District, and interesting informational panels about an impressive multigenerational family of artists. There is also a gallery room with contemporary paintings for sale. The cafe has a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries.
Anna L — Google review
We were made to feel most unwelcome in the cafe by a Rottweiler waitress. I took my 90 yr old friend who used to climb with Bonnington who really didn’t need bullying. We will certainly never go back. Or advise any one else.

I recently explored the Graphite Gallery Cumbria with my daughter, who was eager to purchase some artwork. The owner was incredibly friendly and passionate about the pieces on display. The gallery boasts a wide array of beautiful drawings, and my daughter ended up leaving with three that caught her eye.
