Mã Pí Lèng Pass, reaching a height of 1500m, is a must-see destination in Ha Giang. It connects the remote districts of Meo Vac and Dong Van and is the highest point of the legendary happiness road. The pass was mainly built by Vietnamese minority peoples using simple tools like hammers, hoes, and shovels.
This is the best pass I ever conquered. It's called the King of Mountain Passes due to its sheer magnificence and the rugged landscape it traverses, offering not only jaw-dropping views but also heart pounding sensations when traversing high over the Nho Que River that is winding far below through a canyon so deep that it feels otherworldly.
R. C — Google review
Definitely worth to go to the Skywalk - it’s easier (and safer) on foot than by bike. Not too many people attempt it by bike given any wrong move with make you tumble about 1,500 meters down. To get to the infamous rock (or the top) you have to climb. It’s extremely hot there and not easily accessible. Especially when there are many tourists, paths are even narrower and a wrong move will result in certain death.
Jeroen K — Google review
Excellent sceneries. The view of nho que river from Ma Pi Leng pass (800 M ) is awesome. Boating on NHO QUE river(120000 VND per person, 20000 VND per camera) is really worth.
Sivakumar P — Google review
Incredible view of mountains, amazing landscape and lovely local people. The far north region of Vietnam with beautiful mountain pass. It's gorgeous, the best scenery I've seen in Vietnam.
Chuong N — Google review
Ma Pi Leng Pass is definitely the most beautiful part of Ha Giang Loop, as the views are simply astonishing. Drive through the mountains and see the crystal blue lake way down below you. It is a sight that one will hardly ever forget!
Stephen — Google review
Ma Pi Leng Pass is the ultimate thrill ride in Vietnam's northern highlands—those hairpin turns hugging sheer cliffs with canyons plummeting thousands of feet below? It's like nature's own rollercoaster, dishing out jaw-dropping panoramas of layered mountains and the winding river far beneath. The wind in your face, the vast openness—it's raw, exhilarating, and a tad intimidating, but in the best way possible. I snagged my driver tour via Joytime, and it was a total win—the guy was a pro navigator with hilarious stories about local legends, making me feel super fortunate to conquer this beast without a hitch. If Ha Giang's on your itinerary, this pass is non-negotiable for that unforgettable rush!

Lung Cu Flag Point, perched atop Lung Cu Peak at over 1,400 meters above sea level, is a striking monument that stands 30 meters tall and proudly displays a large Vietnamese flag. This iconic site symbolizes the unity of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the winding Happiness Road below.
Amazing scenery with a great view of China and Vietnam. Its got toilets and shops if a drink is needed. Visiting is so worth it if you want one of the best views. Just be warned that there are quite a few steps to get up to the top.
Ollie J — Google review
Lung Cu Flag Point is slightly off the main route, but it is absolutely worth the detour. The journey itself offers stunning scenic views, making the drive enjoyable and memorable. Once you arrive, you have two options to reach the flag tower, either climb the steps or take a buggy ride for just 30,000 VND. I choose to climb the steps and enjoy the scenic. The panoramic views of northern Vietnam are truly beautiful. It's definitely a must-visit spot.
Sandeep A — Google review
One of the most majestic places I have ever been. The road to get there is like a snake. Besides, there are toilets and shops for tourists. 🤩🤩 I am proud to be Vietnamese and I like to climb to the top of Lung Cu Flag Tower because I can see the whole ground below and communicate with foreigners who come there 😁😁

Quan Ba Heaven Gate, also known as Quan Ba Pass or Quan Ba Twin Mountains, is a must-see attraction in Ha Giang, Vietnam. Located about 45km from Ha Giang city, this scenic mountain pass offers stunning views of lush valleys and rice paddies as you ascend the steep switchback trail.
A breathtaking gateway to Hà Giang! Quản Bạ Heaven Gate is the first major viewpoint on the Hà Giang Loop, offering stunning panoramic views of the Tam Sơn valley and the famous Twin Mountains. The road leading here is steep and winding but well-paved, making the ride both thrilling and scenic. Located about 50 km from Hà Giang City, you can reach it by motorbike or car, following the QL4C road towards Đồng Văn. As you ascend, the air becomes cooler, and the lush green mountains stretch endlessly in every direction. Arriving at the top, the viewpoint provides a perfect spot to take in the breathtaking scenery and appreciate the start of Hà Giang’s dramatic landscapes. Stopping here is a must, not just for the view but also to experience the transition from the lower valleys to the rugged limestone peaks that define this incredible region.

Stunning view! It is really the gate of heaven. On the way from here to Quan Ba, Dong Van, meo Vac, we can see how amazing the nature beauty is
Han N — Google review
Absolutely incredible experience of mountain and green. We stayed in a homestay. Food was incredible with vegetarian options & local wine available. The valley has a view of corn field, rice fields, water reservoirs. The homestay rooms were very well done, neat and clean with hot water provision. One can have a nice hot shower. There was also cultural program in the evening. A must visit.
Srikanta M — Google review
Visited on last day of our 3 day ha giang loop, amazing views across 2 valleys. Also, obviously, coffee stops of either side of the road for your coconuts coffee needs ☕💪 Worth noting how incredibly busy it was on the other side of the viewpoint heading back to ha giang. The road is being repaired, there is gravel everywhere, buses, trucks, cars and 100s of motorbikes all meeting in narrow sections. See video for the carnage, all adds to the experience 😂 Apparently there was a large gate here erected by the French colonial rulers to keep the northern Vietnamese in their place. Lucky them having this amazing landscape and no invaders bothering them!

Go on a Sunday, eat a pho and just watch the locals buy and sell clothes, pigs, cows, vegetables, herbs, fruits and everything else you can think off... most women are dressed in their finest traditional clothes. Some men too. Also: they get drunk on rice-wine. You will see the last ones stagger off in a walk of shame around 2pm. Such a great place to soak up the atmosphere. I can't believe we were the only tourists on the market!!!

This is one of the best markets I've ever visited. I visited on a Sunday so people from nearby villages were swarming the place buying and selling stuff. For me the most interesting part of this market was the butcher area and the livestock area just outside the market. I've never seen so many pigs sold and it was really interesting. The livestock area had sheeps, cows, pigs. There were puppies too but was unsure if they were on sale... And be warned. People here is very pushy and they are strong people. They will push you away if you are in their way or if you're not maintaining the flow of people. I assume the people here do manual labour so even the older people push quite hard.

Brilliant experience. Plenty to witness and experience. However visited dong van market prior to this and felt was far more interesting than this market at meo vac. Please add it in if you can make it on a Sunday.

Very excited, colourfull peoples...good taste wine. Drunk to die :d Meo Vac market which is opened on every Sunday. The market is set in the valley which is surrounded by thousands of mountains and is also a place where you can find cultural quintessence of all mountainous ethnic minorities in Ha Giang. From very early morning, when the sun has not yet risen and  fog covers mountains, visitors and local people all feel enthusiastic to lead to the market. Many Dao, Lô Lô, Giáy, Mông…men walk along with beautiful women in colorful eye-catching costumes. To go to the market, many people have to cross 10km of Ma Pi Leng pass which is consider as one of the most dangerous passes in Vietnam. There are a lot of different kinds of goods sold in the market. Most of them are farming products, homemade items and craft items. People come here to buy warm coats for winter, plastic sandals, rock climbing shoes, or even a mobile phone… It seems that local people come here to bring a little modern urban lifestyle back to their villages or hamlets. No matter what they trade, sellers and buyers and even visitors just coming here to visit all are very happy and you can see the smiles everywhere. The market also has an area where people come to sell and buy corn wine made by H’mong people with manual methods. Men and even women can come here to taste the wine. It is a really happy time after a week of hard work that helps many local people to forget difficulty and poverty which still remains somewhere in this poor rocky highlands. Say goodbye to Meo Vac, we continue our Vietnam Motorcycle Tour to discover the next destination of the itinerary. We hope that tourism development will not make the land loose the traditional beauty, the cultural identity of people, and the characteristics of mountainous fair.

Although reaching the viewpoint can be challenging and dangerous, it provides an unparalleled vantage point for capturing stunning photographs of the canyon.

Very bad!! Do NOT come here! One of the very few viewpoints that charges you admission! Boooo!!! And they charge you double at that! 30k for admission and another minimum 30k for a mandatory order. This view point in fact is a small place with a small rock. The place is on top of a high rock wall, down about 50m from the road. It's dangerous place to reach to. You should better use a rope to go down. The place looks right into the Tu San Canyon that makes it best place for photographing the canyon.

The drinks are delicious and the view is absolutely stunning! Watching the road — especially how vehicles slowly wind their way up the steep curves — is almost meditative. There’s also a great photo spot with the Vietnamese flag and the winding road in the background — perfect for capturing the moment. That said, this spot is definitely not a hidden gem anymore. It’s quite popular and can get pretty busy. The Service is not special, but the staff could understand english. One downside: the prices are definitly on the higher side (95.000 VND for a coconut coffee and a lemon juice), and using the toilet costs an extra 5,000 VND, which felt a bit much considering we were already paying good money for drinks.
RockyRoxin — Google review
Lovely viewpoint, such a cool road. Good place to grab a coffee. Lots of locals selling souvenirs. Girls are also decorating girls or guys hair with flowers for a fee. Yeah the locals are trying to make a living, but give them some credit. Can’t remember if there’s a toilet. But the viewpoint is free and definitely worth a visit. Đỉnh Chiêu Lầu Thi is the third highest mountain in Vietnam and the second highest in Ha Giang. Unlike some other mountains, there's no cable car to take you up easily, so be prepared for a tough climb. However, the effort is worth it as you'll be rewarded with a stunning view.
Magnificent view from the top. I've been here twice and still willing to comeback sometimes. If you choose to stay at Chieu Lau Thi Chan May Homestay like I did, it'd take 30 mins riding with motobike to get to the site, then about 45 mins more to climb. There is a sign shows the peak poit is 800m to climb, but according to my Garmin watch, the total ascent was 220m and the distance was about 600m. So this should be a fair climb. It gets cold very fast after sunset and the road back might have heavy fog, so what out and ride safe.
Trần A — Google review
Deserve to climb up the peak. We traveled 12kms by motorbike ( 125cc) from Chan Mui homestay at Hothau village. The motorbike road just have made since 2016 but now some parts ( about 6kms) can not through easily cause the land slide, big rock... Should not go by motorbike if you have no confidence in your driving skill. When you reach to parking place, climb up to the peak just simple by walking on man made path.

If you're seeking a refreshing escape, Du Gia Waterfall is the perfect destination. Located just 5 kilometers from the main town, this hidden gem offers stunning views and a serene atmosphere, often free from crowds. The journey to reach it involves a bit of adventure—after crossing a bridge and navigating some rocky paths, you'll find yourself at the waterfall's base where you can enjoy swimming in its cool waters. The area features several smaller waterfalls upstream that are equally captivating.
To get to the second falls, head past the first falls on the right, and after about 5 minutes, the path will come to an end, so cross over to the left side. Then continue on the left path for about 5-10 minutes. If you continue after the second waterfall there are some small streams. These directions are brought to you by the dog in the attached photos. The second waterfall is better than the first, more peaceful, and if there is enough water it is a better spot to swim. A great spot you should not miss on the loop.

Quiet and amazing. Not so many people goes there obviously. Path is steep but not dangerous until the very last 50-100 metres. Then a machete could be useful: at least wear pants and long sleeves as there is some razor leef and break down some branches if you want to be able to find your way back.

Way too far and long to hike to so we couldn’t get to the last waterfall like the guy in the newest review. There were so many lil streams otw. And free fish massage lol (see vids) Quite a long trek but still recommend for crowd avoiders like ourselves.

There is also a bin at the start of the trail, please use it! It's a shame that some people have left little bits of rubbish along the path.

Visitors can enjoy a peaceful and comfortable stay in rustic rooms or bungalows surrounded by nature. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the retreat features a swimming pool for relaxation.
We booked a first night in the cosy cottage, then a 3-day private tour on the HG loop and then one more night in a room with garden view. Both rooms are beautiful and clean and we had two very comfortable nights. The 3-day tour was an absolute highlight and we were very happy that we booked the private tour directly at the residence, so we could go places where groups don't come and could travel at our own pace. We had two great guides that were super friendly and fun. We were a bit afraid it would all be too popular and touristic but it definitely wasn't. What stands out at the accommodation is the way the staff helps you with everything. We could easily arrange it all, at any time of day; the tour, laundry, luggage storage during the loop, dinner, taxi pick-up, transport to Hanoi airport the next day early in the morning, it all was super easy and for a good price. The location is a bit secluded but that is also what we selected it for. Perfect for relaxing and exploring the unique Ha Giang region 👌🏻

The bungalows are located in a beautiful spot a little outside the town. This makes it really a beautiful and quite place to stay. Good food, good service. They are very friendly and want to help you with everything. They’ve arranged motorbikes for us, kept our luggage while we did the ha giang loop and arranged a bus to Ninh Binh when we came back. Pro tip: make sure you arrange a taxi from the center or make sure they pick you up from the drop off point from the bus. It’s quite a walk and the bus company won’t bring you to the end of the road.

Specially thanks to ms Lan. What truly stood out was the food – the local specialties were not only fresh and flavorful but also prepared with great care. Staying here would not be complete without trying the meals at the retreat; they capture the authentic taste of Ha Giang and made our experience even more memorable. The peaceful atmosphere, friendly service, and delicious cuisine make this a place we would love to return to again and again whenever visiting Ha Giang.

😊 Beautiful cottage, comfortable, nice swimming pool and good dinner. 🙁 We came to chill and relax after the ha giang loop tour. Thinking it would be the place to relax as it's said to be a "retreat", but then second day a 25ppl group came in to party before their tour.

We had an amazing time at the Ha Giang Xanh retreat. We were only supposed to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying for an additional 2 nights because I got sick. We have nothing but good things to say about the resort. They arranged everything, from tours to transportation, were very flexible when we had to reschedule things when I was sick, were very kind and provided us with incredible meals. The resort is also very beautiful and a great place to relax. We did a private tour of the Ha Giang loop with the retreat and had a great time with two very skilled easy drivers. We definitely recommend this resort. Thank you Thuan and the rest!!

Pho Bang old town, also known as Pho Bang, is a street lined with ancient Chinese houses that are hoped to be preserved and maintained to retain the street's identity. The area has undergone changes but still features old houses from long ago. While there may be limited services available, the place exudes a homely ambiance and offers amazing hospitality. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful and quaint old street, with perhaps only one restaurant available for service.
The owner cooks amazing food. But apart from food what wins the hearts is the hospitality. He's a very humble guy raising 3 children on his own. Must try this place if you are visiting Pho Bang. Homely ambiance, amazing service and free tea at the end is a perfect finisher. Perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

No entrance fees to visit Pho Bang Old Town. We drove on our motorcycle on a rainy day, it's been raining for 3 days in the area and it was a bit muddy going up here. There's not a lot of tourists, but we saw a lot of homestays in the area. It gave a ghost town vibe. Construction of roads within the old town are also underway. The houses' walls here are still made of mud and clay, pretty interesting to see. There's a lot of Chinese influence in the structure and decor since China is just a few kilometers away. I don't recommend going out of your way to come here. Nothing much to see.

Nai Nam Dam Waterfall is a hidden gem located at the end of Nam Dam Village, off the main route of the Ha Giang Loop. It's not too big and offers a refreshing shower, making it perfect for cooling off on a hot day. The waterfall is easily accessible with a 10-minute walk downhill through the forest. Although not ideal for swimming, it provides a serene spot to relax and enjoy its beauty.
Beautiful, you’re also very likely to have it all to yourself! Not much of a swimming spot but you can sit down in a small pool to cool off.

Cave
Hang Lùng Khúy, also known as Lung Khuy Cave, is a newly discovered cave in the Dong Van Global Karst Plateau Geopark. It is believed to have been formed 400 million years ago and is considered one of the most beautiful caves in the area. To reach the cave, visitors can park their motorbikes in Lung Khuy village and embark on a nearly one-hour hike up a mountain.
This cave was definitely one of the highlights of the Ha Giang Loop and even in Vietnam. You have to drive quite a bit from the main road to reach it, and then hike for about 30 minutes to get to the cave. Pay the entrance fee, get a headlamp, and enjoy the most spectacular cave which I have ever seen! It is incredibly huge, and so beautiful.

This is a good 45 mintue trail that everyone should take. On the day of our visit, only us and one more couple came here. The walk was quite tiring but it is a good exercise, a lot of good views. And entering the cave, we realised the effort was worth while. There is a cofee shop at the top in front of the cave entrance, a good rest point to recover aftee the trail.
Tuấn T — Google review
From my point of view this was a great experience for three reasons - one: there was only one other person there, two: there was a good hike to get there so lots of exercise and three: the cave and surroundings were beautiful. The access to the cave was down a long cemented track - like a farm track really but in very good condition. The narrowness meant buses can't get down, which is good, in my opinion. You enter the village and straight away locals whizz up on their bikes to offer you a lift. You could do that, but ypu still have to walk up the final hill. It's only about a km and a half - lots of steps - but I'm 61, and I managed it fine. The cave is well maintained, and the boardwalks are good. They are meant to give you a helmet before you go in, but the gate man forgot - no worries. I can't say how much it costs because our guide paid. The stalactites and stalagmites are beautiful - it's well worth a visit.
Mary H — Google review
This is an interesting cave site, a few km off QL4C Road. However, for anyone who’s interested in coming here be warned, there’s a fairly tough hike to get up to the cave entrance. If you’re traveling from Ha Giang, the access road is on the left (off QL4C) and just past a Petrolimex gasoline station. The access road is one of those cement laneways and it takes you through some very scenic terrain, to the parking area for your motorbikes. Note: the distance from QL4C road to the parking area is around 4 km. From the parking area there’s a 1.2 km hike through a majestic landscape, to the cave entrance. The final section of the hike is up a long flight of steps which will certainly have you perspiring and breathing hard, by the time you get to the ticket office. Note: if you come here on a warm afternoon, take plenty of drinking water. The entry fee for the cave is 30,000 VND. The cave has been properly set-up for tourism. There’s a solid cement pathway, with handrails, which does a circuit through the cave. From the entrance you travel down the right-hand side of the cave, and return along the left. The distance to the back end of the cave is approximately 300 meters. The cave has internal illumination but on the day I was there, the power was off. For back-up you can grab a head lamp at the ticket office, if you don’t have your own lights. The cave has a large internal volume (larger than Tham Luong Cave) and a lot of impressive sized formations (stalactites and stalagmites) for viewing. It’s also nice and cool inside, and a welcome relief after the sweaty hike up to the entrance. Safe travels, Mega.

It's a bit off the beaten track and takes a long time to get from the parking area to the actual cave, but the cave is cool and a welcome diversion from the constant driving of being on the Ha Giang Loop. And the little road into the valley to get to the parking area is a lot of fun to drive.

Nothing special. The ground floor is dedicated to Uncle Ho and the struggle against the French and Americans. The 2nd floor has exhibits about the minorities of the region. This would be interesting enough but all documents and exhibits are in Vietnamese only.

This museum is underrated. It had some great sections for history, biology, geography and ethnology of the region. Great way to spend an afternoon, especially in a city that has little other attractions.

Great place to come when visiting Ha Giang

Excellent showcase of the natural beauty and history of Ha Giang Province in a very smart way.
