Sasso Corbaro Castle is a restored 15th-century fortress situated on a high, rocky outcrop, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. To reach the castle, visitors can take various routes that lead to its location, providing unique perspectives of Bellinzona and the region extending to Lake Maggiore. The castle houses Sala Emma Poglia, a wooden room originally built for the Emma family in the 17th century.
Parts of the castle were actually closed this time of the year when we visited but the restaurant seemed opened and we could still get up to the entrance of the castle and the little courtyard inside. The views from the castle were amazing and it was nice that it’s not crowded, probably because it’s not technically opened.

We were having a simple green salad in the restaurant up there. It's ok, they are very kind but a little expensive for what they offer.
Bernard A — Google review
Castle from 15th century, built on a rocky perch above the city. One of three Bellinzona Castles, all part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Lovely view with a restaurant inside plus exhibitions.
Azer J — Google review
It was autumn and the leaves were colorful, great view of the two other castles from here and available parking near the Castello.
Nancylee S — Google review
Small ( in relative sense) castle in excellent condition and nice views. Reachable by car (sufficient free parking) or by foot (some 40 -50 mins or so hiking up from main Piazza). Or tour trains. Free walking outside. Inside can be closed. Still well worth the short drive from below.
Whoever99999 W — Google review
Beautiful view and a very helpful woman who worked there that responded to any questions we had. It was raining so there wasn’t many people but the castle was historic yet very well maintained.
Dickran K — Google review
Great views and it was free to enter, don't know if it was because it was Sunday?

Nestled in the picturesque region of Ticino, the Castles of Bellinzona stand as a testament to medieval architecture and history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features three impressive castles—Montebello, Sasso Corbaro, and Castelgrande—each boasting stunning crenelated walls and towering structures that have withstood the test of time.
It is definitely worth traveling just for this. I traveled 3 hours just to see the castle, it was definitely impressive, the wall reaches out quite far❤️
Daisy M — Google review
It's the biggest of three castles in Bellinzona (besides Montebello and Sasso Corbaro). Very lovely medieval setting, informative exhibition inside the Museum with a short movie about it's history.
Azer J — Google review
Didn’t go in the museum or restaurant. Elevator from piazza del sole makes it easy to reach and always very nice and chill. Ton of green slots to lay down and relax.

no parking on-site, but if you go during the off-season you don’t need to pay for the views! only had to pay if you wanted to see the museum. recommend parking in the city square beneath the castle.

Sights & Landmarks
Nestled on a picturesque hillside, the Castello di Montebello is a stunning 15th-century fortress that offers visitors an enchanting glimpse into history. As you ascend from Piazza Collegiata, you'll find yourself captivated by the breathtaking views of the town and surrounding landscape. The castle boasts impressive ramparts that connect it to its neighboring fortifications, allowing for a fascinating exploration of medieval architecture.
Visiting Castello di Montebello in Switzerland is like walking into a fairytale! But first, a little tip: to reach the castle entrance, you’ll need to find the elevator that takes you down to the lower level. The castle walls are incredible, they wrap around the city and give you a real sense of its medieval history. It’s absolutely stunning, especially when seen from above or while walking along the ramparts. 🏰🌿 Once you’re inside, the views are breathtaking. You get a sweeping panorama of Bellinzona and the surrounding mountains – it’s the kind of view you could stare at for hours. 🌄😍 Whether you’re into history, photography, or just love exploring unique places, Montebello is a must-see. Peaceful, picturesque, and full of charm.

The walk up to the castle offered fabulous views of the city and Castello Grande. The path from the cental city square is made of stone and some steps (maybe 15 minutes). There are railings most of the way. An alternate way down we took the road from the oarking lot out of the castle through the draw bridge.
Nancylee S — Google review
A beautiful castle on the edge of town. This castle was second castle of the three that were built. It was a relatively short walk from Castle grande, with some beautiful sights along the way. The castle was closed when I went there in November, (it's only open during the summer). However, I was still able to walk along the ramparts and see the city below, and some great views of castle grande. I was still able to explore most of the castle despite the fact it was closed on the inside as well. It is worth noting that it is also in the middle of a residential area and are no longer in downtown. There is also a parking lot so you could drive there, and a bus stop outside of it. Would love to go there when the museum is open again.
Thomas S — Google review
Amazingly beautiful. We found a nice path where you don’t have to pay and still could appreciate the building
Luisa V — Google review
Very walk from city centre. Up there you can see the other castle and the entire city. I would recommend go up there for sunset view. If you want to go inside the castle you need to buy ticket. But walking around outside perimeter is also worth the walk. If you are lucky you can see the guardian cat also. Lol
Kamon K — Google review

Palazzo Civico Municipio Bellinzona, located in Piazza Nosetto, is a grand building with impressive arcades on multiple levels. The interior features a staircase leading to upper floors adorned with vibrant geraniums and exquisite stained glass windows depicting the city's historical moments. Constructed between 1921 and 1923 by architect Enea Tallone, this Town Hall has undergone significant renovations since the 19th century.
Unfortunately we didn’t get in as we visited on weekend that it’s closed but it was beautiful to see even from outside, also we got lucky and there was a concert on the outdoor premises the day we were there which was lovely!

Very impressive townhall! You are first attracted by a large bare stone tower and only because I read about it, I knew there is an open courtyard as well, make sure you don’t miss it because it is impressive! Lombardisn style with a great facade and three floors of arches and terraces. Like most of the places in Bellinzona, this building adds to it beauty!

(Translated by Google) fantastic theater if you don't exceed 180cm otherwise you can't keep your legs straight. It's a real shame, especially if you have back problems or something else. However, the appearance and decorations alone are worth a couple of hours of suffering. However, I remember that it is only a problem for those who are "too tall" otherwise the chairs are comfortable. What else to add? If it's your first time, arrive as soon as the doors open to enjoy as many details as possible of this wonderful theatre.

I was very disappointed with my visit. The guided tour required nearly an hour of waiting just to get started, and once it began, it was slow and unengaging. The information shared felt irrelevant, and I left without feeling I had learned anything meaningful. At the entrance, I was asked to leave my small bag (12x20x3 cm) in the cloakroom, while other visitors were allowed to keep much larger bags. I could only carry my phone, pass, and wallet, which felt inconsistent and unfair. Overall, the visit felt disorganized and not worth the time or money. If you value efficiency, clarity, and a genuinely engaging tour, this is not the place.

Beautifully ornamented Catholic Church located within the center. We visited on a weekend, as early as 10am and it was not congested with tourists yet. Like all other churches that is open for the public, as visitors we are asked not to take photos during mass service.

Chiesa Collegiata dei Santi Pietro e Stefano @ Bellinzona 🇨🇭 📍 Old Town Bellinzona After a hearty lunch at Il Fermento, we took a slow stroll through the charming old town of Bellinzona. The cobblestone streets were peaceful and quiet, perfect for walking off a meal. Our path led us to the stunning Chiesa Collegiata dei Santi Pietro e Stefano, a Renaissance-Baroque church nestled in the heart of the historic district. The moment we stepped into the square, the church’s grand white stone façade, tall rose window, and detailed statues stood out immediately. It felt calm and timeless—no crowds, just the gentle sound of footsteps echoing on the stones. Inside, the atmosphere was equally serene. Beautiful Baroque interiors, soft lighting, and intricate frescoes made it a rewarding stop. Even without a guided tour, we could appreciate the craftsmanship and history that filled the space. A perfect cultural stop after lunch

Chiesa Collegiata dei SS. Pietro e Stefano is a big and very beautifully decorated Catholic Church ⛪️in the center of Bellinzona’s old town. Totally recommend a visit to the 16th century church and take your time, there is so much to see! Very impressive view of the church also from the grande castle up the hill.

Beautiful church in the middle of a really nice and small street that Google's camera car has not driven through as of mid June 2025. There's a beautiful train painted red and white that stops in the front of the church, just beautiful; wordless to describe the tranquil state of mind. If you're a tourist, and made it here. Congratulations. This small place is where you can really relax, have a nice cup of expresso or meal after a long hike between the castles.

We had a really lovely meal here and we would say the best since being in Switzerland and Italy this last week. Inventive fresh food that is well priced and great meals other than basic pasta and pizza. The staff were great serving us as our Italian is poor. My husband had rabbit and I had the most amazing Caesar salad I think I have ever had. Servings were generous and beautifully presented.
BGGC — Google review
Lovely atmosphere, and friendly, attentive wait staff. Unfortunately, our food (the pesto gnocchi and the porcini tagliatelle) were sadly disappointing— tasteless really. Maybe other dishes there are better, but I won’t be back to find out. :^(
Kevin R — Google review
Really generous servings, and the pasta was perfectly aldente. A bit surprised at the carbonara, which was most likely made with cream and not the original recipe, but still good! The service was a bit grim. We chose the interior room as it has the AC, but as a tradeoff the table was attacked by flies.

Very nice people, very familiar and a clean, beautiful and, cozy place. The prices are in the middle segment and the menu has selected dishes and they are also very good. You have on the last two pages listing's of the dishes and of all substances that the contain, so allergy sufferers can orientate themselves on what they can eat. The service was very polite and one spoke at least Italian, German and English. Dinner was very good and tasty. Everything was very fresh and tasted delicious too. You can also bring your dog and there are also conference rooms and you can also book it for a private event. For peak times it is better to reserve, there is also a menu that you have to order 24 hours in advance. The dessert (Tiramisu with strawberries and creme catalan) was delicious. We really enjoyed it here.

For Swiss standards, good price quality portion value! Each pasta is less than 20CHF! Simple dishes but very delicious and the pasta is done al dente. If you go during asparagus season they'll have asparagus dishes and they're amazing. This place is casual and a lot of tables, good for groups. Also right next to the train station so if you need to catch a train, good place to eat and relax till your train comes.

A very cosy place, next door to the train station. Very tasty and local food but - a shame for the kitchen - a poor service! We have been ignored the whole evening by the waitor, always had to ask for his attention, had to ask to order etc... Seemed like he didn't fancy to serve a grooup of swiss-german hikers, which is a shame. Especially because the restaurant and food would deserve a better customer care

One of the best restaurants in the Ticino, excellent value for money and a very friendly crew. And a nice location in the old town, just 10 min from the station. Happy to come back when I am in the area again.

Just an excellent restaurant - I picked à la carte and could not have been happier with the incredibly tasty food and the great service. Highlights were the Iberico pork chop, the gnocchetti with frog legs, and the veal sweetbreads. While the meat was certainly the star in all three dishes, it was wonderfully complemented by great sauces and perfectly cooked vegetables. The little sweet treats at the end of the meal were just a perfect ending to a stellar meal!

Sensational good restaurant! We stopped in Bellinzona for a lunch and found this wonderful restaurant. The food was delicious! Especially the shrimps with basil and the wagyu beef from Tessin! Service was very attentive. The prices are high but definitely worth it for the experience...
Mat B — Google review
The business lunch menu is poor. This might be a highly recognised restaurant and the "à la carte" food might be great. The business menu nevertheless is very disapointing. We had 3 times a (different) business lunch menu and each time the menu was really poor. A restaurant should not be assigned a Michelin star if the quality of their business lunch is not in line with the rest of their food.
F V — Google review
Outstanding lunch deal at 50 CHF, worth a train ride over to the south of the alps. Must try. Great main, the chocolate cake desert was one of the best I have had. The restaurant deco is a bit old fashioned and spartan. What matters is the food😜!

The chef cooks all with exquisite condition. The scampi was very delicious. I know many good restaurants in Ticino, and the Orico is one of my favourite.

Well known restaurant in Bellinzona. Good 3 course menue, although pulpo salat was below average. However the thin sliced Wagyu beef with fried vegetables was excellent.

Chiesa di San Biagio is a historic church in Bellinzona, dating back to the 12th to 15th centuries and built on earlier church foundations. It is located near Villa Dei Cedri, making it a popular tourist destination. The church boasts impressive frescoes and has a rich history, having housed the S. Giovanni hospital from around 1600 to 1940.
(Translated by Google) The building dates back to the 13th century and, despite the interventions that have taken place over the centuries, maintains a Romanesque layout. On the gabled façade, in exposed stone, there are frescoes dating back to the 14th century, the gigantic depiction of Saint Christopher is particularly noteworthy. The interior has three naves with a wooden beamed ceiling; on the columns, on the walls and in the cross vaults of the choir and chapels, numerous fourteenth and fifteenth century frescoes of the Lombard-Sienese school. The very accurate restorations allow you to enjoy a true architectural jewel, which in my opinion is less well known than it deserves!

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Ticino, the Chiesa di San Bernardo is a charming stone church that captivates visitors with its beautifully restored frescoes depicting Biblical scenes from the mid-1300s. This hidden gem is often overlooked by those outside Bellinzona, primarily due to its remote location, accessible only by cable car or challenging hiking paths.

A beautiful small church built in the Romanesque style. The lady explaining the history pointed out the 14th and 15th century frescoes by artists Cristoforo and Nicola da Seregno. It is just a few minutes from the gondola stop to the Tibetan bridge. The visit is free, you can make a donation for the maintenance of the church.

A well preserved historical evidence. This old church has seen so much oh history and historians are making efforts to restore and maintain it. There was a lady at the entrance who helps you to know the history and significance of the church and has other information on the hiking trails around the San Bernardo. A must see stop on your hike up to Ponte Tibetano.
ANIRUDH C — Google review
The construction of the church has been dated back to the XI and XII centuries, although there are no written documents that testify this. The church went through at least two relevant structural interventions in the course of the centuries. The first, of the XV century, doubled the footprint surface of the building, and added the portico and the belltower. The second, achieved during following century, added the chapel, transformed the apse, and added construction of the sacristy. As far as the frescoes are concerned, the most ancient appear to be the "Madonna del Latte" and the "San Cristoforo" dating back to the mid-14th century. (Ticino.ch)

15 minutes easy walk from the cableway middle station and a nice spot to refill your water bottle and enjoy a wide view over the whole verzasca valley. The church itself is very interesting for it's rather old but we'll preserved murals. A historian was present when we passed through, but I am not sure of that's always the case. There are also some clean and public bathrooms. From here it's a 45 minute walk to the ponte tibetano and another 45 minutes back down to the cableway ground station. For both of these walks bring good shoes and healthy joints cause it's a real hike. If you just go to the bridge and back you will find a very nice restaurant, also at the cable way midstation. Nice food and service.

Alight here for the hike to Ponte Tibetano Carasc! When arriving at Curzùtt (make sure not to miss this stop), press the stop button and then open and close the door once out. It is recommended to buy tickets online in advanced. Regarding returning from Curzùtt to Monte Carasso, it may get pretty packed and I’ve read accounts online of people not being able to board the cable car back to Monte Carasso as it might be packed with people from Mornera. I was told by reception at Monte Carasso that there will be a shuttle bus from 3pm onwards (30min frequency) if one wasn’t able to board the return cable car down with the ticket. I managed to return from my hike at 3pm and luckily the cable car still had space down.
