Villa Carlotta is a stunning 17th-century villa located on the shores of Lake Como, near the Grand Hotel Tremezzo. The villa boasts beautiful gardens and a remarkable botanical park with an impressive variety of rhododendrons and azaleas. Commissioned by Marquis Giorgio II Clerici, it features a neoclassical style with works by renowned artists such as Canova, Tiepolo, and Hayez.
Took the train to Varenna, then the boat and got off at Lenno. From Lenno we hiked to the villa following the lake shore (approx 4 km) This is a great hike, easy to make and not exhaustive. The only caveat is that there is a section of the hike that follows the road. Visited on Monday. Started with the gardens as there was a storm cloud on the lake and wanted to cover the gardens and move inside if the rain moved onto the place. The gardens are extensive and beautiful. The rhododendrons were in peak bloom (mid May). The Villa itself is also impressive, well curated and maintained. Overall a great small museum as a time capsule ot a different era. The cafeteria has gelato, panini and excellent beer. What else do you need beyond that. We entered the museum at 3:00 pm and left just after 6:pm. The combined ticket for the gardens and the villa is €15/p. Good value.

Nice museum with several exhibits. Also has gorgeous views of lake como. There is also a restaurant to grab some lunch. It was not crowded when we visited also there was no line to buy tickets. Worthwhile visiting the villa.
Jayasimha N — Google review
An absolute architectural, botanical and historical marvel of the last 500 years. The grounds of the villa are absolutely gorgeous - fountains sculptures, and perfectly manicured floral heaven. The garden is truly remarkable with how much variety of plants there are and also the way it's been maintained. For the building itself, nothing short of extraordinary - the design and architecture is impressive. There is so much history and craftsmanship behind this place.

Inside and out Villa Carlotta was a joy to visit. We loved the art work inside the villa. Be sure o look up as many of the rooms are adorned with frescos and or reliefs. The grounds are a botanical wonder with species brought in from around the world.

Must see! Great place to visit, beatiful inside, many sculpture, paintings few rooms with furniture with very great conditions. Amaizing garden around, it takes 2-3 hours to visit and see all villa and garden. Beautyful view from balcony for Como lake.
Arkadiusz K — Google review
Beautiful villa with stunning lake views and lush gardens. The inside has some impressive art and sculptures, but the real highlight is walking through the gardens, peaceful and scenic, a perfect spot to slow down and take in the beauty of Lake Como.
Zongle — Google review
Lovely visit especially enjoyed the extensive gardens, agricultural history and interactive commentary in our language about basement life at the Villa. Reasonable €15 entrance (€13 for over 65s) Luggage lockers were helpful. Bistro service for 2 hot drinks was slow on the day(20/8/25) as they seemed short-staffed.
Ian M — Google review
I have no words. Grand, classy, green. Bamboo plants, very tropical. The great beauty of a sea of over 150 species of plants. All this is combined with the view of Lake Como, which is open from almost every point of Villa Carlotta. Very good restaurant.

Villa del Balbianello is a captivating 18th-century villa located in Lenno, on the picturesque Lake Como. Originally built by Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini, it has been home to various wealthy families and notable figures throughout history. The villa boasts a splendid loggia offering enchanting views and is adorned with breathtaking frescoes and charming gardens. Its former owner, adventurer Guido Monzino, enriched it with an exclusive art collection and artifacts from his global expeditions.
We’ve photographed several pre-wedding shoots at Villa del Balbianello, and every single time it feels like a dream. The views over Lake Como are breathtaking, and the villa itself is pure magic. In spring, the wisteria blooms beautifully across the villa, creating an even more enchanting atmosphere. Every corner is photogenic, from the iconic terrace overlooking the lake to the lush gardens. It’s truly one of the most incredible locations in Italy for a photoshoot.
Peter P — Google review
A beautiful estate with a fascinating walk to and from the site. Definitely touristy but absolutely worth the visit. Be aware: Google’s “mostly flat” description is misleading—you’ll need to tackle some uphill sections, so bring good shoes.
Alexander S — Google review
Very beautiful and pristine villa. Everything is very manicured and clean. It is about a 2km walk from the Leno ferry terminal. Definitely some gradients so wear comfortable shoes. This villa is home to famous scenes in Star Wars and also James Bond Casino Royale.
Falene C — Google review
Such an incredible place to visit if you are going to Lago di Como, I would suggest buying the tickets in advance so you can skip the wait, bring comfortable shoes, I wouldn’t recommend heels or anything like that if you do want to enjoy the most hidden places here. Very clean, it takes about 2-3 hours so see and enjoy most of the villa! Is a must!
Karen A — Google review
One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €14.
Natalia V — Google review
Beautiful Villa... Looked stunning in Casino Royale! In person so much more!!! Tour is a must do to understand the last owner.. ended up buying the book about him. A must visit if in the area.
Paul J — Google review
To reach it, you have to walk about 750-800 meters after parking your car, but believe me, it's worth it 👍I think if you came to visit Lake Como, you should definitely see this place, the entrance fee is 13€ per person, very well preserved, Italian architectural features and the magnificent Como atmosphere, wonderful 👍
Bülent K — Google review
Famous from Hollywood-movies this gorgeous villa and surrounding gardens are a must visit when visiting Lake Como. We took the guides tour inside the Villa which was very fascinating. It was very hot and crowded in gardens however, so would recommend to visit off-season and make sure to buy your tickets in advance.

Sacro Monte della Beata Vergine del Soccorso in Ossuccio (CO) is a UNESCO World Heritage site featuring 14 chapels built during the 16th and 17th centuries, symbolizing Christ's Passion. The location offers easy access to nearby attractions such as Villa Carlotta, Villa Balbianello, and scenic walking routes like Greenway del Lago.
Very nice view when you get to the main chapel. The ride there can be difficult for some people. Going there with kids would be an adventure!! It’s a bit hard to see what is inside the chapel on the ascent because it’s a bit dark. The main chapel is fairly small but very beautiful. Again, the main purpose of this ride is to get a nice panoramic view of lake Como. You can see the city of Bellagio from there.

Isola Comacina is a lush piece of land that extends from Lake Como in the municipality of Tremezzina. This small gem holds an archaeological heritage and a millennia-old history dating back to Roman times. The island was once part of the defensive system of Isola Comacina, an ally of Milan, and was destroyed in 1169 by the Comaschi.
The only island of Lake Como. It played an essential role in the military history of the region. Valued for its exceptional nature and splendid views, Isola Comacina is an excellent location for walking and a lovely beach.

The island is beautiful, but in my opinion is €6 entrance per person to much for what you get. The church was closed and the old ruins where not accessible even if information signs where inside. Some parts of the old church are behind iron bars which is a pity.

Greenway del Lago di Como is a picturesque 10 km trail along the western shore of Lake Como, perfect for leisurely walks and family outings. The route starts in Colonno and ends in Griante, passing through charming villages like Sala Comacina and Ossuccio. Along the way, hikers can admire baroque churches, traditional Italian architecture, and beautiful lakeside gardens.
Great experience, the views are incredible and the towns are just brilliant, definitely worth it. I started the way around (from Tremezzo) and I was a little bit confused with the signs around the path and got lost, I imagine doing the right way is also better. Google maps doesn't have the entire trail here, worth doing some web searching through other pages that do have it. I also add a photo of the signs all around the path that will guide you. Don't expect a sign per meter, they are really a few but just to remind you you are on the right path, they are fine. During the trekking you will find places to bathe in the lake, really really important if it is summer. If you give up at any part of the trip, try to find a bus or a ferry near where you are. For example there is a bus working all weekend that leaves you in Como city.
Carolina B — Google review
Nice walking trail which includes parts to see above or right next to the lake. Beautiful view, historical buildings, drinking water possiblies, restaurants, swimming possibilities are included.

This is a great hike on mostly paved walkways BUT my husband and I are fit, completed this entire walk in 2ish hours. It definitely has hills with some more strenuous parts. Plenty of viewpoints for rest though! If you want to make this more of a stroll, it will take 3-4 hours. You can begin at different points if you do not want to do all 7ish miles! Be warned haha
Integrate I — Google review
Great Hike !! Day 1 we started in Lenno after getting off the Ferry. Stepped onto the Greenway Trail, followed the signs heading North and hiked to Griante or the end of the trail. You can go further and sidewalk tour the Old Villas towards Menaggio but roadwork prevents you from getting through to Menaggio. Day 2 was a longer day, hiking to the start of the trail from the Lenno Ferry and back. This part of the trail is better marked, but a bit more challenging as you climb higher into the villages and enjoy Grand Vistas. A tasty Panini and Gelato is well deserved on the return leg. Va Bene
P. ( — Google review
The perfect stroll for the day when you forget your hiking shoes for more serious trail :) Amazing views especially when the path climbs up away from the lake, Griante to Colonno with pizza/beer lunch break takes easy 5 hours
ThePolishTraveller — Google review
Beautiful place, and the walk. You can really enjoy places, views and the atmosphere. Path is quite easy, but I think without a children’s trolley.
Maciej C — Google review
Day one we started in Cadenabbia and walked to Lenno, returning to Cadenabbia. Day two we took the ferry to Lenno and walked to Colonno before returning. The way is well-marked with metal medallions in the path or signs at turns. We enjoyed seeing staid mansions, bustling commercial corners, statuesque churches, quaint villages and lively playgrounds- with the grand Lake Como in the background. Walking proved to be a great way to see the range of how people occupy this gorgeous part of Italy. Near Colono the trail medallions are more scarce.

The area has inspired artists and intellectuals throughout history due to its diverse cuisine, natural beauty, and international cultural heritage.
Beautiful place very busy, but you didn't feel pushed. Plenty of places to eat, drink and sit and admire the scenery. Easy to get to from Milan got train 30ish minutes and £27 for two.

Absolutely Beautiful and Peaceful! Lake Como is an amazing place to visit. The views are stunning, with mountains, clear blue water, and charming towns all around the lake. It’s a perfect spot to relax, explore, and enjoy nature. The atmosphere is peaceful, the food is delicious, and the people are friendly. Definitely one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been – highly recommended!

What a wonderful place. No wonder the rich and famous hang out here. Scenery is second to none. Lots of old buildings if one is into that. Has the largest street market that I have seen. Lots of boats for hire to add to the experience

Beautiful and highly recommend. Lake Como felt like stepping into a postcard. The water, the mountains, the tiny cobbled streets… everything is just beautiful. It’s calm, elegant and honestly one of the most romantic places I’ve ever been. I already want to go back ✨💗

Lake Como is a most magical place. It seems as if you are in a completely remote corner of the world, one you never want to leave from. A must visit. There are cafes, restaurants, fresh markets, olive oil and pasta markets galore. All down these one lane cobblestone streets. You turn a corner and it opens into a small square With outdoor cafes setup. The lake is a Beautiful gem, with gorgeous views all around. You are surrounded by mountains and depending on the side you are on, you have a magical view of the Swiss Alps. If you want a Romantic getaway, clean eating, with some of the most melt in your mouth pasta dishes and desserts, you must visit Lake Como.

This place is mesmerizing. Happy by just walking around the garden and taking few pictures. There are two exits. You can go out and return by asking the staff to stamp on your wrist. There’s entrance near the port, very easy to walk to this place. We did not buy the ticket in advance since we saw the notice in the booking website that we need to be in line to get ticket anyway. Luckily, there was no queue, I believe because we visited during weekday in the afternoon (Oct 6). Not too many people there. Recommend!

It’s a very beautiful garden right on the lake. I don’t mind paying 10€ just to walk through the park because it does take some work to maintain the garden. It’s a nice place, there’s a museum too. However you cannot enter the main villa and it’s just not that amazing overall. It’s still a great place to be away from the touristy centro of Bellagio

Villa Melzi is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever visited. The gardens are immaculate, peaceful, and filled with stunning colors, especially in spring. Every path reveals something new—ancient trees, vibrant flowers, classical statues, and breathtaking views of the lake. The atmosphere is serene and elegant, perfect for a relaxing stroll or quiet reflection. The neoclassical villa adds a timeless charm, and the small museum and chapel offer fascinating historical insight. The combination of nature, art, and history is truly unique. Easily one of the most beautiful places I've been. There was a crowd (we visited in September), but it was manageable and didn't bother us too much. Entry was quick and efficient and for 7 euro (13 for regular entry but still) you get access to arguably the most gorgeous views you would have seen in your life.

The gardens are absolutely stunning and the views of Lake Como are unreal — definitely a must-visit for photo lovers! Dress cute, this place is made for dreamy pics. We bought tickets online and skipped the line. The villa interior isn’t super impressive, but the outdoor beauty makes it 100% worth it.

This is truely a lovely villa. The setting on the north end of Varenna is perfectly quiet. Property is between the road and Lake Como allowing for a magical stroll along the water. The property seemed a little worn. After a couple of days of train the paths suffered from large puddles making passage distracting on some portions. Other features were closed for repairs. The house was a treat and more intimate than some of the other villas we visited. Be sure to visit the exhibit room under the where you'll get your tickets and enter property. They have a fine audio and visual show that allows you to chose topics on the family and property history of the villa as well as the garden and it's flora. We visited in the second half of September but I can imagine Villa Monastero in blume is just amazing.

One word – magnificent. I recommend buying tickets in advance to avoid waiting. We arrived at 10 a.m. and waited about 20 minutes in line. The villa opens at 10:00 a.m. They allow only a limited number of visitors inside, which is great because it’s not overcrowded. The ticket costs €10

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been on Earth and I mean that. Wow just wow. The gardens are incredibly stunning and well kept and I probably took hundreds of photos here. Do not skip this place if you are in Varenna and spend some time here I promise it’s worth it!!! So much gorgeous scenery it felt like I was inside a pinterest board. If you are walking here from where the ferry drops you off make sure to walk along the path right next to the water with the red fence for some of the best views of the lake and then at the end head up one of the streets/stairs to get to the villa entrance.

We had a fabulous day at Villa Monastero, where every inch felt intentionally designed and beautifully maintained. The atmosphere was serene and tranquil, with stunning architecture all around—the elegant pillars, soaring arches, and vibrant flower displays made it a feast for the eyes. We visited in mid-June, when the temperature reached 34°C, yet there were plenty of shaded spots to pause and enjoy the scenery. One of our favourite moments was sitting at a picnic bench under the shade, having some snacks while taking in the spectacular lake views. The café on site offers refreshments, and there is one toilet for each gender. Both were beautifully prepared and spotless, which was a welcome detail. The combination of breathtaking views, peaceful atmosphere, and architectural beauty made Villa Monastero a truly memorable experience. It’s the kind of place where you can slow down, breathe, and simply enjoy the beauty of Lake Como. Kids go free

Great views over the lake and beautiful gardens! I booked timed entry tickets in advance over the website, which reduced the need to queue to pay for tickets at the entrance. My family enjoyed the walk through the gardens although it could get very hot in the summer! A little crowded on the Sunday we were there.

Parco Civico Teresio Olivelli is a charming park situated on the shores of Lake Como, near the church of San Lorenzo. It features botanical beauty and architectural marvels, including works by the rationalist architect Lingeri and an eighteenth-century tarot card. The park is a popular spot for bathers during summer and offers a tranquil setting for relaxation under its impressive trees or at its small bar.
The place is a really gem for photos. Especially if you would like to click candids or do professional wedding photography. It’s beside a beautiful row of huge trees and the atmosphere was just the kind for a book reading.

Nice park where people take their time to relax in the trees’ shadow, while the newlyweds have their photoshoots with the Como lake views ;) there’s also a fountain and a coffee shop, so you can simply spend some time watching the boats sailing.

Castle
Sights & Landmarks
Located on a promontory overlooking Varenna in the center of Lake Como, Castello di Vezio is a 12th-century castle with a rich history as a military outpost. It offers stunning views of the lake and surrounding villages from its main tower and garden. The castle provides tours of its dungeons, features a falconry, and boasts a garden adorned with statues.
Breathtaking views, beautiful garden, lovely scenery, definitely worth a visit. One of my favorite places here in Lake Como. It's also relatively small so you can really take your time enjoying everything and you don't have to stress about missing something. It's fun for people of all ages but bear in mind that there is a bit of a walk from the car park to the tower. It's not the easiest walk either, up and down on the pebbled pathway. It's not for people with physical hindrance.
Snowbird . — Google review
Castello di Vezio is a scenic and well-preserved medieval fortress above Varenna, offering some of the most stunning panoramic views over Lake Como. The climb up is a bit steep, but worth it for the peaceful gardens, the mysterious ghost sculptures scattered around the grounds, and the historic tower with medieval artifacts inside. There’s also a small botanical garden and occasional falconry shows. A perfect mix of history, nature, and quiet charm—highly recommended for a relaxed visit away from the crowds.

Worth the visit. You can drive up close to the castle, with very few spots, still have to walk few minutes. They have senior tickets 4 euro, so that was great. The views are indeed excellent. The owl in the cage is unnerving, not sure why it's there.

Unbeatable panorama views of Lake Como! This is a must visit. The hike up is difficult, 30m of just steep uphill. But it’s well worth it. Came in Sept on weekend and it wasn’t busy at all. Also a very nice cafe and bathroom
Pat Z — Google review
A stunning and well-preserved castle. While not particularly large, its simplicity adds to its charm. The hike to reach it took about 45 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. There is an alternative route for those arriving by car, but I opted to walk for a more authentic experience. The view of Lake Como was indescribable! Visited in September. Entry was €7.
Juliana L — Google review
Such a lovely spot with incredible views over Lake Como. The castle itself is full of charm and we even saw a beautiful owl on site, which made the visit extra special. The walk up the hill is a bit steep so you’ll definitely feel it but it’s absolutely worth it once you reach the top!
Magdalena S — Google review
Amazing views! Absolutely worth going there😍 but the climb to the castle is steep and it takes approximately 30 minutes, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and have water! in the ticket office you can buy drinks and snacks (we had a very yummy hot chocolate ☺️) and there're places to sit. Moreover, there's a picnic area
Fidan G — Google review
The walk up to this castle nearly took my life - however it was MORE THAN WORTH IT and I’d do it again! This castle rocked my world. Atmospheric music playing as we walked up to the top, only to be met with the best view in Italy. When we came down from the castle, we discovered an incredible dungeon - I won’t spoil it but the dungeon is a very spooky highlight that I thoroughly recommend. Overall this castle is worth the pain it takes to get up to it and I highly recommend you make the visit.

Extended stay hotel
Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is a luxurious hotel located in Bellagio, Italy. The hotel offers elegant rooms and a range of upscale amenities including a spa, bars, and two restaurants. Guests can also enjoy the hotel's pools and access to a private beach on the lake. The property has an interesting history and is currently owned by the Rockefeller Foundation, serving as a creative retreat for artists, writers, and scientists.
Our stay at this magnificent villa on Lake Como was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the impeccable service and the dedication of the entire staff. The interiors are absolutely stunning — refined, elegant, and perfectly in line with the timeless charm of the villa. The restaurant deserves special mention: the cuisine was exquisite, every dish a delight, and the cocktail menu in the bar was both creative and sophisticated. We were also touched by the thoughtful birthday celebration, which made our experience even more memorable. The service was flawless throughout the day. The waiters, dressed in white stockings and bow ties from morning until evening, brought an exceptional sense of refinement and harmony that perfectly matched the villa’s interiors and atmosphere. If there was one slight disappointment, it was the attitude of some fellow guests. Unfortunately, many did not follow the dress code recommendations that had been clearly communicated at the time of booking. It was a shame, as this lack of consideration diminished the otherwise consistent sense of elegance and exclusivity of the place. Overall, however, our experience at this villa was absolutely outstanding — a true example of luxury hospitality at the highest level.
Marina N — Google review
I had such high expectations staying at Villa Serbelloni, but unfortunately the experience was very underwhelming. The one thing that is truly outstanding is the location, it is absolutely beautiful and cannot be faulted. However, for a five-star property, the service and staff experience fell far short. Coming from a five-star hotel in Switzerland just before this stay, the contrast was stark. At Villa Serbelloni, there was no real sense of welcome or warmth, often no greeting, no effort to make you feel special. For example, when sitting by the pool, not even being offered complimentary water when towels are handed out felt surprising and completely unacceptable for a hotel of this level. The staff were not rude, but they were also far from attentive, polished, or genuinely welcoming. And that’s what makes the difference between a hotel simply having five-star facilities versus delivering a true five-star experience. I had been looking forward to this as one of the highlights of our European trip, but sadly it ended up being one of the most disappointing. If what you want from a five-star stay is to feel valued, wowed, and taken care of, this is not the place.

Every member of the staff demonstrates genuine warmth and professionalism, ensuring that each guest feels not only welcomed but truly cared for. The breakfast experience deserves special mention: an exquisite array of delicacies enjoyed in a sunlit setting that overlooks the shimmering waters of Lake Como. It felt less like a meal and more like a dream. The views from the property are simply incomparable a living painting of deep blue water framed by majestic mountains. My wife and I recently completed a five-night stay at the Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni as part of our honeymoon and could not be happier with the experience. The property is stunning, pictures and descriptions simply do not do it justice, and the staff could not have been kinder or more attentive. While Bellagio itself can feel crowded with visitors during the day, the hotel is a serene oasis, allowing guests to enjoy the town at its best in the calm of the mornings and evenings. Our stay was flawless, and we are already looking forward to returning.

The Church of San Lorenzo is a striking example of eclectic architecture, with its reconstruction spanning from the 18th to the 20th century. The construction resumed almost a hundred years later and ended in 1894. The wall structures are made with rough-hewn blocks of a limestone typical of the Lake Como area called Moltrasio stone. It's located not far from Villa Carlotta. 📖 The Church of San Lorenzo in Tremezzo was built from 1775-1776. Construction wasn't completed until 1894, which explains the rather eclectic architectural style, somewhere between neo-Roman and neo-Gothic. Villa Vigoni, the Italian-German Center for European Dialogue, is not open to the public, but visitors can explore its beautiful gardens with rare oriental plants and a bamboo forest. The charming family chapel on the grounds features neoclassical style and magnificent stuccoes. Originally an agricultural estate transformed into a holiday resort in the 19th century, this stunning villa offers luxurious garden spaces for outdoor ceremonies with breathtaking views of Lake Como.
Arguably splendid. Very fine cuisine. Peaceful with simple luxury and genuine staff.

Stayed here on a couple of occasions, both conferences. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped. No tv though, but didn't need one since there was Wi-Fi and lots of places to socialize with colleagues. Food is amazing and always followed by strong espresso. Conference facility is also top notch.

(Translated by Google) The complex complex of Villa Mylius-Vigoni extends on the edge of the village of Loveno. In 1829, the German entrepreneur Heinrich Mylius began the transformation of an agricultural estate with an eighteenth-century manor house into one of the most fascinating holiday resorts on the Lario. The renovation was entrusted to the Milanese architect Gaetano Besia (1791-1871), who expanded the residence, giving it a Neoclassical style. The interiors are very noteworthy, both for furnishings and works of art, among which various paintings by Francesco Hayez (1791-1882), master of historical Romanticism, stand out. The layout of the park, which extends over five hectares with a difference in height of over 100 metres, is due to the Milanese Giuseppe Balzaretti (1801-1874), a highly regarded interpreter of the landscape garden. Among the minor buildings, the Tempietto stands out, built in 1831 on the edge of the green amphitheater to commemorate the premature death of Milyus' son, with bas-reliefs by B. Thorvaldsen and P. Marchesi inside, and a commemorative inscription inspired by Alessandro Manzoni on the front south. The property, inherited by Ignazio Vigoni (1905-1983), was expanded by the latter by acquiring the underlying Villa Garovaglio, a spectacular eighteenth-century residence. Upon Vigoni's death, in the absence of direct heirs, the complex was donated to the Federal Republic of Germany to honor the memory of the initiator of its development. Today Villa Vigoni is home to a foundation which aims to promote Italian-German relations in the fields of scientific research, higher education, culture and economy. The villa and park are open to the public on set days. Extract from the Guide «Discovering Tremezzina» (Francesco Soletti, Edizioni New Press 2017). Parco Val Sanagra, designated as a Local Park in 2005, is nestled between altitudes of 1000 ft and 6500 ft in the remote Menaggio countryside. The valley boasts numerous hiking trails that showcase the typical landscapes of Lombardy. One popular route winds through Val Sanagra above Menaggio and can be safely enjoyed through guided tours. It's advisable to wear sturdy mountain walking shoes and carry a walking stick due to narrow paths and steep areas.
Nice hike about 9.5 km first part along a nice mountain river. Not too hard. Beautiful area, and not too much other people.

Great area for a hike. There was sufficient parking at this spot. We went up north on route 4. FYI, once the line becomes dotted on the map the trail becomes adventurous so good to note. Also to reach trail 4a you need to walk further than you might think, there will be signs, you cannot miss it., see photo. We went back down via trail 3 from Barna and this circle route took us about 1,5 hrs.

Get yourself on this hike! We loved it. We headed from Mennagio and took a counterclockwise route, uphill climb through woods and villages, then the excitement of the river and falls. Before downhill to town for a beer. Amazing !

Beautiful walk in the gorge. Beware that it can be quite steep at places and very narrow under the rocks but amazing rock formations. You’re not close to the river in the gorge though but higher up. Further up north, close to the Agriturismo it’s an easier walk and near the river.

Monte Crocione offers a memorable hiking experience with its well-preserved military roads, tunnels, and trenches that showcase the area's historical significance. The trail from Tremezzo provides stunning panoramic views of Lake Como and takes approximately four hours to reach the peak at a moderate pace. While the hike is challenging with steep sections, it is manageable for hikers who enjoy outdoor adventures. The path is mostly shaded by woods, providing relief during summer treks.
Great hike with the best views of lake Como! Starting from Tremezzo, it takes ~4hr, with steep parts at the beginning and the end, but completely doable for everyone who enjoys hiking. Also very cool the tunnel at the middle of the hike. Most of the trail is under the woods (except the last 30'), so you won't die during summer
Juan F — Google review
Very nice but tiring hike. Steep roads and paths.
Guillaume M — Google review
As others have posted, many reviews do not capture the hike from Tremezzo. Beginning in Tremezzo, it is roughly a 30 minute walk up a bike path to the start of the trail. This walk is uphill in a cobblestone path. The entire hike from the beginning is quite steep, hiking poles would be tremendously valuable for the descent. The path is paved in a light cobblestone that has faded over the years but is still easy to follow. From Tremezzo expect around 4 hours to the peak at a moderate pace. Once you approach the peak you are left at a fork in the road. The first path is nearly a 70 degree angle straight toward the cross and summit (see the second picture) . The second route is a low incline , long switchback that takes quite a bit longer to reach the peak. In our case, we took the straight shot toward the summit. This was the most difficult part of the hike as there really isn't a trail at this point. You're largely holding onto clumps of crabgrass to make the ascent. It is challenging, but the view of the summit is gorgeous. From the summit of monte crocione, you can walk to the mount Tremezzo. Others have mentioned an area to buy drinks and food as well as a car route, perhaps this is near mount Tremezzo but we did not see this whatsoever. The descent was tricky without poles and requires time to avoid falling and the pace is not so fast. In total our time from the ferry, summit, and back was around 7 hours.

Hard work for a competent yet casual hiker. But doable and stunning views along the way, even if you don't want to go all the way to the top. I'd recommend taking at least 3l of water in the Summer!

⚠️: not suitable for children under 12, elderly, people with a physical disability and hikers who have no experience when you want to start via TREMEZZO. (i dont know anything about the other routes, i only judge the route from Tremezzo) Tremezzo has some good parking places for free right from where the route starts. As a hiker with a moderate experience the first 2.5 hours were destroying, almost to the point my group and i gave up. This will be the steepest part. While you climb and sweat like you've never done before, you can enjoy a beautiful overview from lake como and that's something what gives you motivation to keep on going. After these horrendous 2,5 hours of walking the path is only getting better, so dont worry. You pass some beautiful cows along the way and can spot some local houses. after another hour or 2 there is a cave where you have to go trough to continue the walk to the top. before you enter the cave you have the most magnificent view you can have, in my opinion. Passing the cave you will have a zig-zag path where you sometimes pass a fallen tree which crosses the path, you have to climb over these trees. It took us 5.5 hours (with breaks) to reach the top. You have to start really early if you want to get back on a OK time. This hike did costs us 10 hours and loads of pain in our feet, legs. We couldn’t walk afterwards, not a joke. So to all the people who reviewed this as a easy walk, please be realistic it isn’t at all! It was beautiful and really worth it but think 2 times before starting this hike.

La Crocetta offers stunning views of Menaggio, Varenna, and Bellagio. The starting point for the hike is marked with red and white signs, but it's recommended to use Google Maps as locals might direct you to the main road instead. The moderate hike can be a bit secluded and eerie at times, but the breathtaking view of Menaggio from below makes it worth it.
Stunning views of Menaggio, Varenna and Bellagio Lots of different reviews read and we still got lost 🤣 1. Use google maps to get to La Crocetta starting part of the hike. 2 images below show the signs in red/white. This is the starting point. Do not ask locals who might point you in the direction of hiking the main road to Croce. Do not do that. 2. Follow path and look out for the red marks. There are also some with red/white which I believe to be more for wider hiking in area and not specific to La Crocetta. 3. When you go up the path, you find the two signs with long and short route - take long as this was the correct one. Continue looking out for red marks. 4. you are in a forest path with rocks, stones etc. Not for hiking in or just after heavy rain. It is quite steep and high at times. Good shoes & water needed. The path was empty as was the actual summit bit. Highly recommend for off beaten track activity.

Incredibly beautiful, I hiked up from town using AllTrails app and was the only one on the trail. It had rained the night before and visibility was not good dt the fog, but the fog lifted as I came to the cross and was able to take some pictures w neat fog backdrop. A really calm and relaxing way to see Lake Como from above.

The views are amazing! I was surprised that not many people seem to know about this viewpoint. The hike is moderate, I went with my 64 year old mother who struggled at times and I would recommend going with a friend as the dirt track feels pretty secluded and horror movie-esque but once there you will marvel at the view of Menaggio from below

In the early 1600s it was embellished with some canvases painted by some of the most renowned Lombard artists of the period and depicting various moments in the life of the Saint. They are currently on display, after restoration, at the Villa Carlotta museum which is dedicating an ad hoc exhibition to the Marquises Clerici. The ownership of the small church (oratory) subsequently passed to the Sommariva family and the last heir completely transformed it according to neoclassical taste around the middle of the 19th century, making it the burial place of her loved ones.
